930 Medina Studios 3br/1ba

A simple apartment reno for my "and they were roommates" savefile. Originally home to Austin Wentworth—the flat is now shared by him and two other buddies of his from high school/college.

I wanted to keep it simple, dark colors + greens with splashes of white/cream to fit all of their individual styles. I meant for this to be somewhat of a bachelor pad/hangout spot for their friend group so big open windows to let that natural light in was a must. Honestly, Medina Studios has some of the best lighting in San Myshuno.

Which is why I always have the lights off. There is one light in the living room but its a low light so it doesn't overshadow that natural sunlight :)

Oh, man, look at this lovely 1893 lady in Wyncote, Pennsylvania. She’s an example of another style of Victorian architecture. ($725K)

What a fine historical home.

Isn’t this beautiful?

Double doors with deeply colored stained glass match the colors in the carpets. Look at those 2 big radiators- that must feel good coming in the house on a cold night.

Center hall stairs.

Lovely sitting room looks like a page out of history. Look at the little niche. 

This is so neat- and look, another 2 big radiators. I’d be in here all the time, b/c I’m always cold.

Very comfortable family room.

This is beautiful, off the family room- an enclosed porch. It even has a fireplace.

Love this kitchen- it’s perfection. And those turquoise cabinets.

Look at the façade on the fridge- it looks like an antique ice box. 

This stove! These people knew how to reno a kitchen.

The pantry is also fabulous.

The formal dining room. Love the fireplace.

Vintage powder room- what a wonderful pedestal sink.

Moving on to the bds. 

The master has a niche, too. 

Love this so much.

This is so pretty- look at the tile in the shower. Classic tile on the floor.

Wow, and it has Victorian reproduction faucets.

Looks like every one of the 5 baths were carefully renovated.

These wonderful rounded niches go all the way to the 3rd fl. Look at the colored glass window panes.

No creepy basement here- look at their baseball collection. Wow, can you imagine packing all this stuff up?

Oh, so that’s where the turrets are. You can’t see them from the front. I guess the car doesn’t convey.

how the FUCK am I supposed to change the lightbulbs on the twenty-foot ceilings in this apartment????

ALL of the overhead lights in this apartment are like this. (there are a handful of hanging lights that I can change myself.) I understand that there's some kind of grippy lightbulb changer suction cup or basket on a pole you can get at Lowe's or Amazon but a lot of these lights aren't normally recessed, they're beneath covers. And a lot of them are already burned out. (I can also tell that several have normal bulbs behind the cover, which means they were replaced before with the wrong kind of lightbulbs -- the one in the laundry room has two regular bulbs, one burned out, and there's literally no way I can get at it. I'm not climbing on a sixteen-foot ladder, I will die.)

*dubiously* I guess this is what handymen are for. (I mean, in a college town I'm sure I can always hire an enterprising college student to do various things, but perhaps not for the lights. I'm sure one of them would buy my excess mattress, though.)

I'd honestly be willing to try the lightbulb changer on a pole, but I'm not sure I can physically manage it with all of these lights, and the ones behind covers (which includes both bathrooms and the laundry room) I definitely can't. Also I guess I'll send another plaintive text to my property manager. (I am still trying to figure out where trash goes.)

this is a recently renovated apartment, but it is immediately evident to me that the reno was designed by (a) a man who was (b) COMICALLY taller than me (not hard, I'm 5'2.5"), (c) probably left-handed, and (d) didn't actually cook much despite the nice kitchen. (I do have SUBSTANTIALLY more counter space than in the Decatur house, but it would actually be difficult not to have more counter space than in that house -- I dealt with it by having a kitchen cart.)

on the other hand, there are FIVE MILLION outlets in this apartment. so it has that going for it. literally, from where I am sitting in the not-quite-open plan kitchen/dining/living room I can see thirteen outlets and I know there are two more in the office nook (built-in desk!). on the third hand it is a second-story walk-up and if I'd known the stair situation I'm not sure I would have rented it. (I had a video tour but didn't realize the stair situation until I got here.) probably the restaurant below also has twenty-foot ceilings.

this is the kind of apartment that would be a few grand in a city (I looked up the rent for an equivalent apartment in Decatur and it was $3-5K a month), but this is small town South Dakota, so while it's more expensive than my duplex in Decatur, it's not actually that much more expensive, especially considering that it's larger, new appliances, washer/dryer, 2 full bathrooms, and parking. also I wanted an apartment that made me feel like a Real Adult Professor and not a graduate student, especially if I had to live in rural South Dakota. (As I have bitched about endlessly, I didn't want to leave Atlanta and I didn't want to leave the Deep South; I'm one of the people who actually wants to live in the South (apparently rare? at least of people I know at my previous institution who were all like 'I don't know how I ended up here') and I do expect to go back on the market in an attempt to move back, TT job or not, unless I absolutely fall in love with this school/town. though if I absolutely hate living here, I can move to one of the nearby cities and commute (there's one half an hour away over the state line, and one an hour away in the same state). but like, I wanted to stay in the South and the universe said the best it could do was South Dakota.

but also jesus. this light situation makes me nervous. I do own floor lamps (because the Decatur house actually had terrible lighting), but come on, man. also I haven't yet found where I packed the cover for one of the floor lamps. I also can't find the bulbs for my regular non-floor lamps. found the bulbs for one of my floor lamps because they take E12 chandelier bulbs and they were packed in one of my 'random things' boxes. I will be unpacking for...a while.

MODERN BACHELOR PAD RENO

It's 2 am and I come bearing one (1) gift.

This was supposed to be one of my @simblreenofficial contribution...sadly I got derailed. But who cares, it's always time for Simblreen, it’s always October \o/

This is a renovation of steph0sims' modern bachelor house - the build itself is from 2015 (oh good, simpler times..) and idk I hate modern builds but this one feels very nostalgic to me - probably the memories from featuring it in my Potter legacy - so I decided to renovate it.

THE WORD SALAD SPECS 🥗:

I know it says "bachelor" but I furnished it with a couple in mind, a chef and an author plus their cat, with space to raise a family eventually. Maybe. But you do you!

30x20 lot, built in San Sequoia.

2 bedrooms + 1 extra room + study + greenhouse/sunroom/whatevs.

3 bathrooms.

outdoor eating space + pool + chicken coop (!!).

I *forgot* to fix one of the windows in the living room (you can see it in the screenshot), just click on it and it fixes itself (the perils of moo).

I *forgot* to fix the slightly floating record player, also in the living room.

I sized down a china cabinet from Cats & Dogs with the T.O.O.L. mod, it should stay as is even if you don't have the mod. Same for the rug in the kitchen.

As you can see, I did not limit myself with packs and kits - if you don't have Home Chef Hustle the whole kitchen will cease to exist, just fyi.

I left two rooms completely empty so you can make of them whatever you want, the house is not overly cluttered so you can add your families' little touches here and there, furnish/decorate however you please. I gave you a theme, you expand it!

...and that's it I guess!!! ETA: Nope I lied, please remove the decorative pot from the stove before directing your sims to cook something, or it won’t work ⚰️. This is why u playtest before uploading 🤦‍♀️

Rowlet's Day Out

Trainer: Well wish you guys luck for your training today. Hopefully everything goes smoothly for you all.

Trainer was saying there goodbyes too the Defense Force Trio, as there couple days of relaxation had come to an end.

Kafka: I will call you tonight when everyones settled down. OH! And make sure that if your gonna go anywhere you at least text me so I know where you are.

Trainer: Ok Kafka, I hear ya, don't worry everything will be Munkidori.

Reno: Don't you mean Hunky-Dory!

Trainer: Nope!

Kikoru: Well glad you are actually being responsible Kafka, now don't be late you two or else you may be stuck on cleaning duty.

Before Kafka and Reno could respond, Kikoru turns too look out the window and sees, her faithful butler since she was little Yamato Akiyama ( Had to call the Butler something) waiting by the car too take her too Tachikawa Base.

Letting out a happy hum, she starts preparing to leave

Kikoru: Well my ride is here * Starts picking up bags* Hope to see you there and not on the side of the street pushing that old tin can on wheels.

As Kikoru walked out of Reno's house she couldn't help but giggle at Kafka's yelling about talking bad about the company car.

Yamato: Ah Miss Shinomiya, glad to see you in such high spirits. Please allow me too place your bags in the back seat for you.

Letting out a soft thank you, Kikoru took her seat in the passengers side as Yamato swiftly and gently placed her bags in the back seat.

The drive too the Base was filled with peaceful silence, so Kikoru was surprised when Yamato ended up speaking.

Yamato: Miss Kikoru, I hope you don't mind me saying but I have noticed lately that you have been in very high spirits. I take this too mean that you acclimated well to the Defense Force.

The question took Kikoru off guard, but she responded quickly.

Kikoru: Oh yes, I have taken quite nicely too the Defense Force and the other Officers. It is quite nice, everyone there is so nice and they are willing to lend a hand. Especially another new officer like me, her name is Akari and is usually the first after a training session to ask if everyone is ok and if they need some sort of medical attention. OH! And then there's Hakua she's very boisterious and she has a seemingly endless stomach, there was this one time she had a mountain of rice and....

The conversation went on like this for the entire drive towards the base with Kikoru talking about her experiences and the friends she made at the base, all while Yamato sliently listened happy that Kikoru was thriving and making new friends that she could count on.

However unkown to both of them, one of Kikoru's bags lightly shaked on it's own before stopping.

Before Kikoru Left

Rowlet was woken up by the hustle and bustle of the morning with everyone eating there breakfests and packing to leave. Rowlet let out of huge yawn as they peeked there head out of the little cushioned bird house that was made for them. Trainer was there putting together everyones breakfest, Kafka frantically packed up all there belongings as they forgot the night before too do so. Reno chastised him for being so forgetfull. Overall it was very noisy and Rowlet wanted a nice quiet plave too nap, so there next spot was the living room, however it was still to noisy, so they tried resting a top a shelf, however that didn't work either as the sun's glare hit them from a nearby window, so they countinued on searching for a good napping spot. That when Rowlet found it Kikoru's special bag she had yailored made to house Rowlet when ever the group went out for walks, it was perfect and Rowlet quickly snuggled into the bag and promptly went back to Dreamland. Unknown to anybody, as Kikoru picked up the bag along with the others and walked out of the house.

Tachikawa Base

After Kikoru got herself settled and changed into her ttaining clothes she left her room she shared with the other female officers not knowing that Rowlet was in the bag and slowly waking up. Rowlet now getting the rest of there nap done, slowly peaked there head out of the bag only to be met with a wholey unfamiliar sight. A odd room with a bunch of bunkbeds and no Trainer or other Pokemon in sight. Befuddled by there new surrondings they immediately started to explore the room. There was nothing here really so they decided to explore more of the Base, it wasn't tricky to open the door and soon started fluttering through the hallways. Oblivious to the camera that Rowlet kept on passing, thankfully no seemed too notice the little Grass Owl Pokemon and Rowlet kept on with there own little adventure. It was awhile before Rowlet came across something amazing, an empty cafe with sweet treets on the counter left ripe for the taking. Of course Rowlet just had too start munching down on all the delicious sweets, however this is when trouble appeared. As during Rowlet's sweet feast they made quite a bit of noise, and it ended up alerting a white tiger that was passing by.

* GGGGGRRRRRRR*

A loud growling sound is what caused Rowlet to turn his attention away from all the sweets. When Rowlet met the maker of the noise he froze in absolute fear, as Rowlet was being stared down by none other than Bakko, Captain Ashiro's resolute companion. For a good 10 seconds the 2 just stared at eachother before all Hell broke lose. Raucous noise broke out in front of the cafe, before a panicked Rowlet darted out quickly flying away while holding a Donut in there beak. Bakko quickly gave chase, not wanting to let the intruder get away. Though thankfully for Rowlet, being airborne let them have a full-proof escape option of heading out a open window in the main hallways second floor. Bakko ended up not being able to follow as the time they made it up the stairs Rowlet had long since flown away.

Rowlet had taken up residence in a tree near the training area, having to make sure they weren't about to be jumped by a white tiger. When Rowlet was postive about having made there grand escape they began munching on there donut. Once again Rowlet began to enjoy themselves, there sweet treat, the sun shining on them, it is perfect.

???: WOW that Owl is so cute!!! I wonder what kind of Owl it is?

Rowlet who had just finished there donut, got startled by a loud voice from under them. Looking down they were met with the excited gaze of a very tall woman with reddish pink hair.

???: OHH THERE SO CUTE!!! Aw man, I wish I had something to give you, just so you come down and I could get a better look at you!!!

Rowlet Owlish blinked before blushing and letting out a happy coo at the praise.

???: HAKUA! I finally found you, I have been looking all over for you, come on we have too go back trainings starting again.

Hakua: Akari! OH come over here quickly you have too see this Owl there adorable!!!

Akari who is quite short with short black hair, went over to stand next too the now named Hakua.

Akari: Oh wow! Your right that Owl is super cute, though the Owl looks incredibly odd. You don't think it's some sort of Youju do you!

Hakua: WHAT?! Don't be ridiculous that Owl is way to adorable to be some ugly kaiju, beside it hasn't even attacked us, no kaiju is this calm.

Akari: Ya, you got a point, though that Owl sort of reminds me of those strange kaiju that have been appearing throughout the past 3 months.

As the 2 girls countinued talking, Rowlet just looked at them curiously, but that was soon replaced with terror when Rowlet heard a roar and turned to see Bakko dashing towards the tree. So Rowlet quickly fled to the skies, flying as quickly as they could as Bakko quickly closed the distance. Bakko who was not willing to let Rowlet get away a second quickly climbed up some of the nearby sheds and lept towards Rowlet to try and catch them, all while the 2 girls yelled at Bakko to stop. Wether Bakko would have caught Rowlet was up in the air as a ring appeared above Rowlet and pulled them through and like a amazing magician they dissapeared leaving a confused Akari, Hakua, and Bakko.

Back at Reno's House, Rowlet was pulled through one of Hoopa's rings and back home from there little adventure.

Trainer: Rowlet!!! There you are I was so worried about you. It's not safe too wander off like that around hear, thankfully Hoopa tracked you down in no time. Well your back and being worried doesn't help, so let's just get something to munch on, OK!

Rowlet let out a happy chirp of there name as Rowlet followed Trainer and Hoopa too the kitchen for some more sweet treats.

Okonogi sat going over the secruity footage just too make sure everything was ok.

Okonogi: Well everything is ok and 100% prank free, now too get those reports down.

As Okonogi drank some of her coffe for the long night ahead, glanced back at the screen causing her to comically spit out her coffe

On the the screen showed Rowlet flying through the various halls exploring the place

Okonogi: THERE WAS A KAIJU IN TACHIKAWA BASE!!!!!!!!

Rowlet doesn't know how much chaos they just stirred up in base, lol. Okonogi definitely shows the footage to Mina and Soshiro alongside interview the two officers who saw the stranger kaiju. It was clear that the little fellow looked lost but no one knew where exactly he came from.

Hoopa warping them away is enough to link the newest addition to Trainer.

So one of the mods in valhelsia is minecolonies, which gives you the chance to be "governor" of a newly formed colony town. They're randomly sprinkled around rhe map, abandoned towns you can revitalize, or you can stake your own claim somewhere. I went with the former because I found one that was a beautiful vineyard with bees buzzing around and coconut crabs swarming the beach it fronted. I'm quite enjoying it, but some of the mechanics are annoying. Like you can't do any of the reno or building yourself, you have a designated builder villager, and they're both the dumbest and slowest person in the world. My builder has been digging out huge patches of dirt just to lay it right back down (and he only works one block per second or so, so it adds a pretty significant amount of time on balance). There are guards you equip and can train to protect your village, and they have patrol areas, but the pathing somehow always has all of my guards clustered on the exact opposite side of tge village any time it's attacked. Also, the resource requirements for anything above the most basic builds are prohibitive (at least for the design packs it's loaded with, there may be 'cheaper' builds, but not in this version). And my biggest pet peeve, illness. One of my dudes got influenza and spread it to every single other person, and then when I started healing them, they would be reinfectwd within 5 minutes. I finally got a hospital built to automate rhe healing, and all of them would get healed and then catch it again on their way back to their job. Increasing your population requires building an entire house for every additional person. And for the people staying in the Tavern (basically a long term hotel for your starter villagers), they spend every free moment of time following you around complaining they don't have a house. I really like figuring out how to manage the supply lines to eventually make the village self sustaining, then I can start working on the create mod and learning how to use steam punk stuff. Also, there's oil so I can eventually use compression engines. I'm not sure for what, since I still haven't seen any sign of support for moving items or blocks beyond trains. I would love to have regularly mobile sailing ships. Either fishing boats or pirate vessels to raid other villages would be cool. And as always, I'm having a great time with my friends playing together. The valhelsia team made a great modpack, and minecolonies is very intricate so I can forgive the sometimes poor pathing and finicky building requirements.

Hiya! I'm coming back from a kind of hiatus myself, having had some major abdominal surgery in September that I'm still recovering from. So, I haven't played my tribal saves or Botanica, the fairy/plantsim one, lately, but I will get back to them eventually. It's just that right now, sitting at a computer for long periods of time can still be a bit problematic. It's getting better, but it's not 100% yet. Which is why I've been doing more building, because that's something I can more easily do in shorter spurts. I do have plans to open up Botanica, at least, sometime in the next few days. I need to remind myself what I was doing in it! LOL

As for the Meadow Glen rebuild, I think I'm going to share the save file when I have it done. That way, people can play the world or just go in and grab lots they like from it. It uses CC, Store, and stuff pack things, plus stuff from all expansions, so I'm not sure how much appeal it will have, but I see no reason not to share it, so…
