In Hebrew, fear has two sides: Pachad and Yirah. Pachad is that gut-clenching, run-for-the-hills kind of fear. Yirah is awe, the fear that elevates, like standing at the foot of Sinai. Two faces of the same coin.
So today, we need to ask ourselves, do we "Forget Everything And Run or Face Everything And Rise." Even when facing adversity, a situation that seems to call for 'defense,' remember, the goal is never to destroy, but to elevate.
You might say, "But Rabbi Bernath, the world is complex! What about the war, the strife, and the hatred?" My dear friends, you might have noticed that Judaism isn't a religion of simple answers.
The Rebbe taught us that we can be assertive, even preemptive in defense, but always with the sanctity of life in mind. We are obligated to protect, but also to elevate, to turn an enemy into a friend. "The sins should cease—not the sinners themselves," as the Talmud instructs us.
So, let us walk this tightrope of life with Yirah, with awe, facing the complexities and rising above them. For in a world fraught with binaries, Judaism teaches us to embrace the divine complexity and paradox of creation, elevating sparks even in the murkiest of places.
Dont give into fear, then terrorism wins. We must rise above it! L’Chaim, to life and to transcending fear, one step at a time!
Rabbi Yisroel Bernath

Mantra: MRRRDRM SVRT MA

Raigad heritage walk
15-16 June 2024, Saturday-Sunday (overnight stay).
We were around 24 friends.
This blog post is divided as follows:
Experience in photos.
How did we go?
Time frame.

EXPERIENCE IN PHOTOS:
Our cozy home stay
Ride in the cable car.
This trip was arranged by my good friend and we were glad to be a part of his family and friends. Mr. RP & Mr. S were the expert historians whose storytelling raised goosebumps and brought tears in our eyes. They literally created history live in front of us at the fort. Raigad was alive and spoke with us, its untold secrets and stories. My blog post may have everything, but this experience of Raigad through the stories of our story teller friends.
While returning, our car did not start and we all cramped up ourselves in the tempo traveler. I must thank all the parents and their kids who adjusted to accomodate the car passengers, at the expense of their own comfort.
But apart from this small hiccup, the rest of the trip was just fantastic and I look forward to traveling again.

When Queen Vashti married King Ahasuerus, she, like all Persian wives, promised to love, honor and obey. Yet, when her husband commanded Vashti to dance before his drunken guests wearing only her royal crown, Vashti refused.
How did she get the idea that a wife could and should refuse to follow her husband’s instructions when they were disrespectful and stupid?
Vashti overheard a young woman named Hadassah giving advice to her much older cousin, Mordecai, a successful merchant and a leader of the Jewish community. Vashti was amazed that Mordecai would listen to and indeed follow the advice of a younger woman.
Vashti asked them about their relationship. Mordecai replied, “We are Jews, descendants of Abraham and Sarah. God told our ancestor Abraham that ‘whatever Sarah tells you to do – do as she says.’ (Genesis 21:12) Thus it is a mitzvah for Jewish husbands to follow the advice of their Jewish wives, especially concerning family and personal matters.”
Vashti asked Hadassah, “Don’t Jewish brides promise to obey their husbands?”
“Of course not,” answered Hadassah, “Jewish husbands and wives are partners who are consecrated to each other according to the rules of Moses (the Jewish religion) and the people of Israel (the Jewish community).
Jewish women never promise to obey their husbands. Jewish spouses should love and respect each other, but no one should blindly obey anyone else, even the King.”
Vashti was so impressed by what Mordecai and Hadassah had told her, that she began studying Torah with them and later with other Jewish teachers. After a year of study, Vashti decided to become Jewish.
She did not tell Ahasuerus that she had become Jewish because when she told him that she was studying the Torah, he was uninterested. Ahasuerus never paid any attention to Vashti’s opinions or ideas, relying only on his seven advisors, especially Memucan whom everyone called Haman.
Vashti had noticed how Haman often manipulated the King to increase Haman’s power. Now that she was Jewish, Vashti felt more self-confident and empowered, so she tried to warn Ahasuerus about Haman’s devious plots against people Haman thought were his rivals, and his tendency to avoid solving problems by finding scapegoats.
...Vashti was divorced and banished from Shushan, the capitol of the Persian empire to a small town in Southern Syria where she married the King of Massa, one of the local towns.
Her son Lemuel always remembered how his mother, Queen Vashti, admonished him that wine is not for kings since it impairs their judgment, and that the most important thing in life is to marry a woman of valor and respect her capabilities...
Vashti’s words were incorporated as the last chapter of the Book of Proverbs which speaks about the virtues of a strong, active Jewish wife.
The reference to a Torah of kindness being on her tongue (Proverbs 31:26) refers to the many good teachings that Vashti learned from Hadassah and that Vashti passed on to her son Lemuel.
...Why was there such widespread conversion to Judaism? The text says, “Because the pachad of the Jews fell upon them.” Pachad is usually translated as “fear.”
But why would people fear the Jews who had just recently escaped being plundered and looted? Perhaps the sudden reversal of Jewish fate filled many sensitive non-Jews with awe for the God of the Jews.
The Hebrew word pachad, also means remarkable and “awesome.” It indicates the stunning and overwhelming experience of the Divine, and the stupefying and daunting reaction sensitive mortals have to a Divine eruption.
...The commitment of converts to Judaism to the Jewish people in times of woe as well as times of wonder is why the Book of Esther explicitly states that Jews, their descendants, and all the converts who had joined themselves to the Jewish people, took upon themselves to celebrate Purim. (9:27)
...In later centuries, Vashti’s conversion to Judaism was forgotten. That she was the Jewish mother that Lemuel referred to was also forgotten. It is my honor to restore Vashti’s contribution to the Book of Proverbs.
[Read Rabbi Allen Maller’s full d’var torah.]

Pachad (fear) is not in ahavah (love), but the ahavah hashleimah (perfect love) casts out pachad, because pachad has to do with pachad of the onesh (punishment) and the one with pachad has not been perfected in ahavah. - 1 John 4:18 | Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB)

Suddenly aisa close up de de ke hi darane wale hai ye log meko. Bhoot ka VFX toh hai nhi kuch khaas
Btw it's 12:45 am. Cyrus is in black magic room, Raj is in cabin. Sunny is roaming the halls.
Sunny saw the footage of the hathoda levitating and gasped like an English woman in 1872 hearing about a love affair. And he's talking to his camera, to whom he's showing the footage from the other handy cam.
Raj: meri aur owner ki tanhai, aksar kuch baat nhi karti hai. Yaha main baitha hu, ab tak kuch nhi hua hai, and I hope aage bhi kuch na ho...psycho idea hai ye inka. Main provoke nhi karunga owner ko
The poor guy got scared of the walkie noise😭😭 i just know he'll die first
2:05 am. Sunny in production hall, where hundreds of people died at once. Temperature has dropped to five degrees suddenly. Muh se dhua nikal rha hai iske and he's staring at three orbs of light doing a whole ghumi ghumi around him.
OH THE ORBS ARE CIRCLING HIM AND HE'S HEARING HIS MARI HUI FIANCEE KI AWAZ THATS URGING HIM TO GO
Cyrus ko bohot chull hai re baba. He's legit saying "Abe saale darpok kaha chupa hua hai" TO THE BHOOT
Bhoot swatted his hand and made him drop the camera and now he's scratching Cyrus ka haath. Cyrus said himmat hai toh saamne aa and the bhoot threw him into a wall.
Raj heard him yell and instantly checked up on him. Dev Manus. Raj also ran away and left the cabin screaming for Sunny as soon as a table moved. Good boy. And he's telling Sunny ki let's leave. Smart guy.
Sunny and Raj are together, they're looking for Cyrus now, who probably has a concussion from the dhobi pachad with the wall (why am I sounding like I'm narrating the thing)
Live commentary of the movie I'm watching. (It's called 3 am and it's available on YouTube) (Rannvijay Singha is the main lead iykyk)
New tip: if you lose a bet against your bf, just don't give him the bet money and hug him instead—

Explore the history of India - Raigad Fort vlog 1
youtube
Explore the history of India, Raigad fort.
The Maratha King, Shivaji who was coroneted here, built his capital city in the Raigad Fort after he seized it in 1656 from the royal house of Chandrarrao Mores, which was then known as the fort of Rairi. Shivaji renovated and expanded this fort and renamed it Raigad. Two very important villages, Pachad and Raigadwadi, were located in the base of this fort, and ten thousand cavalry were always kept standby in the Pachad village during the Maratha rule.
In 1689, the Mughals captured this fort and Aurangzeb renamed it “Islamgad”. In 1765, the Raigad Fort was the target of an armed expedition by the British East India Company who saw it as a piratical stronghold and thereby bombarded and destroyed in 1818, and it was handed over to the same.
In the present day, though the Raigad Fort is in ruins, it still entails the aura of grandness and splendor. Built in as early as 1030 AD, the ruins of Raigad Fort consist of the queen’s quarters or the ‘Rani Vasa’ with six chambers with attached private restrooms which could be entered from the Mena Darwaja. The main palace, the Raj Bhavan, which was Shivaji’s Palace, was made of wood of which only the bases of the pillars remain and in the palace grounds overlooking the Ganga Sagar Lake, there are the fragmented ruins of three watchtowers. The Royal Bath projects an impressive drainage system along with an underground cellar which was used for secretive and highly confidential activities! The Takmak Tok or the execution point is a cliff in the periphery were sentenced prisoners were pushed to death. There are also the ruins of the old marketplace and right in front is the statue of Shivaji himself that leads to the Jadgishwar mandir and his own tomb along with that of his dog, Waghya.
The king’s public court or the Raj Sabha has the replica of the original throne that faces the Nagarkhana darwaja, whilst the enclosure was acoustically designed to aid hearing from even the entrance. Again, in the right side of the Palkhi darwaja is a row of three deep, dark chambers which were believed to be granaries of the fort. The Hirakani Buruj, the famous wall constructed over a huge cliff still stands strong even today. Holi Cha Mal situated outside the Nagarkhana is a wide open ground which was used for holi celebrations. Bara Tanki consisted of more than a dozen water reservoirs, along with Ammunition depot, Rameshwar Mandir, Wagh Darwaja, the Chit darwaja located in Pachad, are among other attractions of the fort.
Owing to the location and structure of the Raigad Fort, it has the best means for trekking, with varying interesting routes right from easy to challenging! The general trek starts at Pachad, 24 kilometers from Mahad, which is a shallow sea port on the banks of the Savitri River. Also, Fort Torana, Fort Lingana, Fort Mangad, and Birwadi, located in and around the Raigad Fort, provides some beautiful trek routes.
Presently, there is the Raigad Ropeway which helps visitors to reach the Raigad Fort, avoiding the arduous climb. It is a rather picturesque climb through the mist-laden clouds, touched upon by the wind. The Ropeway, built in 1996 which an interesting element of the fort, lands at the Mena Darwaja
The Raigad Fort is located at a favourable distance from both Mumbai and Pune. It is a two hour drive from Pune to the fort. One can reach the Raigad Fort from Mumbai in less than two hours by road, located 140 kilometers from the metropolis.
Along with it being a place of immense historical relevance, the Raigad Fort is also considered to be a sacred pilgrimage destination. The Raigad Fort is well-maintained, nurturing the nourishing green across the hilly terrain, thereby preserving its authenticity. No doubt, the best time to visit the Raigad Fort is in the Monsoons
