The port tavern was exactly the sort one might expect the worst kind of folk to hang around. Dirt roads filled with potholes and stagnant rainwater outside and above the front of the tavern hung a sign that might have been more crude, before the weather had worn away the details of the picture. On the other side of the street lay a market mostly empty in the moonlight, and past that, the docks filled with ships of all shapes and sizes. It could have been a peaceful picture, were it not for the excessive number of drunk sailors who made a habit of occupying the nighttime hours of the street.
Dim lanterns hung at uneven intervals along the street, and inside the tavern earlier mentioned, music, light and sailors too deep in the drink spilled out the door. Take a step inside and the music turned from muted revelry to an off-key piano with several people shouting (not so much singing) a sea shanty. Walk further along the bar to men shouting for drinks, women sitting on laps and other women with eyes like daggers who only dared a man to suggest it. Only in the far back corner is there a table sat with a wide emptiness around it, as though there’s an invisible line drawn five feet from out from it which nobody’s dares to cross. At the table is a hook with a man (others might say a man with a hook, but they would be wrong).
Most in the tavern know him by Hook. Perhaps Captain, if they belong to his ship. Still, it is James who sits at the table, sharp blue eyes keeping watch over the rowdy crowd of the tavern, mug in his remaining hand. There is a flask in his pocket as well, but he hasn’t been driven to drink from that yet. He watches, instead, the sailors and merchants and pirates come and go. The evening, for the most part, is average. Strange creatures inhabit the South, and all manner of them slither in and out in the time it takes him to drain his current mug plus two more. The purple thing that flits in isn’t cause for much concern, except that James has felt an unnecessary compulsion to keep an eye on any faerie in his radius. Especially one so clearly intent on making poor decisions as this one is, clearly unaware of the eyes turned her way as she proceeds to inspect every inch of the crowded tavern. There’s a few men taking interest of the fae girl, her as unaware as ever, and James is beginning to form up a reason (it must be a diabolical one) in his head to remove her from the bar when she finds him instead and she steps across the invisible five foot line that separates him from the rest of the bar.
Uneasy glances cast their way as James arches a dark eyebrow. “I’d suggest ye run back to whatever hollow it is you escaped from,” he warned, even as she took no heed of the very clear, though unspoken, ‘do not pass’ sign.

Not a date || Addi & Jason
Jason was excited to spend some time with Addison, he never felt that way before since... he shook his head, trying to send those thoughts away. He walked out of his room after her, Jason wanted to hold her hand but he didn’t know if it was too much, why was he overthinking everything? “We’ll go for an ice cream first, right?” he asked glancing at her, “this is definitely not a date, so don’t get your hopes up, we’re just... spending time together,” he added.

Commit; Rodelaide
Nervous fingers try in vain to make a picnic blanket perfectly flat, running over the fabric once, twice, twenty times and becoming more and more frustrated with each rolling little hill that keeps the blanket imperfect. Why is he so nervous anyway? It’s not a proposal, dammit. Just--a promise.
Roy checks the little basket he’d had the house elves put together for the fifth time and gives the record player a furtive glance, hoping the contraption continues to cooperate--it had been hell trying to get it to work earlier and he’d needed some serious assistance comprehending the muggle music machine. But if there’s one thing Roy knows he can rely on, it’s that Addie will be there and he just keeps telling himself that it all won’t matter quite so much once she’s there.
“Blasted blanket!” Still, his nerves give him fits over the not-quite-flat blanket.

Hubris High || Adelaide + Emma
There’s little to nothing that can stand in the way of Emma and her avid interest in the thrilling parts of life. She’s at her most free, most alert, and most cunning. In the halls of Hogwarts the Slytherin can get just about anything she wants with the right tools and none of the societal norms to curb her seeking ways and thirst for anything and everything to consumer mind in. Muggle pills the struggling muggleborns peddle to make a pittance; magically brew potions that require skill and time and create the most amazing mind-body experiences once the effects hit the central nervous system, frontal and occipital lobe; and the finest and most potent liquors money can buy.
It’s only thanks to perseverance and a few flirtatious encounters with prefects having a bit of fun dabbling in vice that Emma is free to dance down a corridor at night, knowing that the next rounds won’t be for another hour. It leaves her plenty of time to make it to the Astronomy Tower to observe the constellations only visible to someone as high as she is--Lurix potion and the muggle MDMA (that cost her a pretty sickle) make for an intoxicating hallucinogenic sensory elixir Emma is reveling in with no thought to footsteps coming from the adjoining corridor at the next corner.

Roommate Bonding || Addie & Mae
Although she felt pretty uncomfortable at parties, Mae wasn't nearly as awkward in one on one situations. This became clear whenever one compared her behavior toward Addie at, say, the parties, where she avoiding absolutely anyone that was kissing or anything even close to that, versus at home. Back in their shared room, while she felt sometimes like she was invading the girl's space, Mae wasn't nearly as shy. In fact, she'd grown to like Addie quite a bit, whenever the girl wasn't physically entangled with someone in front of her.
So, when she got some new clothes- a rare occasion for her- and went grocery shopping, she was eager for her roommate to get home. She'd been experimenting with a few recipes, and actually tracked down something she was pretty sure was Russian. She didn't know how to pronounce the name, but they were sort of like little fried pancakes, and she'd garnished them with jam. When she heard the door open, she grinned, and practically pranced toward her roommate. "Hey, Addie! Come here, I don't know if you'll think they're any good, but I made these, umm.." she paused, tilting her head and making a face, because she was sure she'd mess up the pronunciation. "Syrniki..?"

When Ben woke up, he didn't even realize at first that it wasn't in his room. First, he noticed that there was a girl on his arm, still asleep. Second, he noticed that said girl just happened to be Adelina Kolesnikov. He only realized it was her room when he remembered the fact that he'd walked her to her room the night before, gone inside, and never left. The man turned on his side, and smiled at her. He was afraid to move his arm because of how relaxed her face looked, but he brushed some hair away from her eyes. When she started to move, he smiled warmly, voice soft and cracked from sleep. "Hey.. it's morning." As if to prove his point, a bird outside started singing, and he almost laughed.

Kingdom Hearts || Addie + Roy [medieval AU]
Some people might think that being king is full of ease and luxury, tucked away inside a sprawling stone castle with every amenity one could wish for. And to some extent, it is true. But ruling a kingdom also means being diplomatic with unsavoury men from neighbouring kingdoms, making policies on difficult topics, and trying not to go to war over the silliest things. So when King Royden has an opportunity to relax and forget all his responsibilities in order to spend time with his family, he takes it.
“Is mummy sleepin’?” Roy hushes his small son, nearly going on three years old, as he carries him into his bedroom quarters where Adelaide rests in their large bed. When the boy speaks again, it’s in a loud whisper anyone could hear. “Da pum’gin gettin’ bigger.”
The servant carrying a breakfast tray in behind them can’t help but chuck and Roy grins widely. Unbeknownst to their son, Addie is awake. Setting the boy down, the king motions for the servant to hand the try to the boy who eagerly takes it and waddles over to his mother’s bedside and loudly proclaims, “Mum, we brotts you food to break you fast and feed da pum’gin!”
As the servant leaves, Roy strides over and settles himself at the end of the bed by his wife’s feet and can’t help but laugh. “Tobias, that’s your brother or sister, not a pumpkin.”

||The Nature of Comforts || Adelaide + Roy
The new school year is one Roy isn’t certain he’s thoroughly looking forward to. He’s spent far too much of his summer with curse breakers and dragon keepers, learning more than his fair share of the dark arts and keeping of dangerous creatures. It’s not that he’s unprepared to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts. It’s well within him to do so. But it had always been an area Marcus had more skill and knowledge in. Not that Roy would easily confess that aloud. And given the tenuous circumstances that had put a strain on his relationship with Marcus as of late, it wasn’t his best mate he could go to for a quick and dirty primer on Defence instructing.
It’s late on September 1st when Roy tosses his luggage into his Hogwarts-appointed living quarters set above the DADA classroom and accesses by a spelled doorway, opening onto a narrow spiraling staircase; unfortunately not charmed as the Headmaster’s is to move on its own. His muscles ache and there are more than a few scabbed spots on his body where dragon burns are slowly healing.
He has no interest in collapsing just yet, though.
The four-poster bed lays untouched as Roy turns foot and departs his simple domain and heads across the castle in search of the one woman he couldn’t shake from his thoughts during the small moments during his time away. His feet tread a similar path toward the muggle studies classroom and veers him just left on the corridor to the doorway leading to Adelaide’s own living space. In her last letter, she’d informed him of the password to enter and breathes is before trying the door.
The moment it opens, Roy bounds up the much shorter staircase and raps his knuckles against her door. “Addie!” he calls to announce his person. He can only hope the dark-haired beauty is willing to tend to him in his moment of need; her comfort the only thing that can shake off the madness he’d been exposed to in his travels.
