Grey’s Anatomy 15x14 Final Thoughts
This is going to be a little bit on the short side, but tl;dr: this was one of the better episodes of the season, and I love Amelia. Let’s get started.
Meredith: Of course she broke another record, congrats to her, I guess. I wish we actually got to see her prep for and actually do the surgery, but I’m also glad they didn’t cut time from the other storylines in this episode to make that happen. Deluca seemed more like her cheerleader than her resident (or boyfriend) in the scenes they had together, which was just weird.
Alex: I have to admit, I did enjoy seeing him (slightly) jealous of the attention Mer was getting with her surgery. It was one of the few lighthearted moments from this episode, which I appreciate.
Seeing Alex deal with another addict-parent really highlighted how far he’s come. We saw him, for the first time, really stepping up as chief last week, but he’s also changed so much personally. There was a similar storyline a few seasons ago, where he was treating a kid whose parents were meth dealers (or something like that). In that episode, he completely freaked out and got really angry about it. Now, he handled the situation with grace and class while making it absolutely clear what his opinions were. The scene with him and Jo at the end was adorable, and I’m glad with how their storylines played out here.
Nico/Levi: Don’t really ship this, especially since we (STILL) know nothing about Nico except for his sexuality, but they had some cute moments.
Maggie/Jackson: Still don’t care about them, but Maggie freaking out about camping, of all things, was kind of hilarious. What they did for the homeless man at the end was really heartwarming. Also, Jackson telling Qadri to fix her facial expressions was pretty funny.
Owen: I feel bad that he “lost” Leo so soon. But I’m irritated that we didn’t see him apologize to Amelia; it seems like what he said last week had, like, no effect on their relationship. I hope he and Amelia stay friends instead of anything more.
Teddy: I’m not really on board with this whole “Cardio surgeon becomes chief of Trauma” thing, but it was incredibly gratifying to see her boss around the doctors and organize the ER almost as efficiently as Kepner would have done. When it came time for Betty’s surgery, I’m glad she was the one to do it – familial reasons aside, and the show did a good job of finally highlighting that despite Pierce being chief, Teddy is, first and foremost, a world-class Cardio surgeon, and Betty couldn’t have been in better hands. There’s more about this below.
Amelia & the Betty Storyline:
I know that there’s an Amelia-centric episode coming up, but she still really had her moments in this episode. I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about the parallels between Link and her ex-fiancé. I haven’t seen Private Practice so I can’t really comment on that, but while I don’t really ship it romantically, I can see, and I do want, her and Link having a friendship similar to that of Meredith and Alex.
Even without watching Private Practice, it’s evident just how much she’s evolved from simply being Derek’s sister. @jordan202 put it really well: she’s made strides with coming to terms with what addiction did TO her, but before this, she never truly understood what it did to her family and friends. Dealing with Betty has definitely changed her for the better, and I’m excited to see her reflect on that experience in the future.
Teddy’s “Amelia may never see that little girl open her eyes again” line was perfect. First of all, she’s acknowledging the bond that the Sisters share (despite brushing it off before). But all that aside, Teddy may not verbalize it, but she knows first-hand how much it matters to have someone there for you during moments like this. That person during Henry’s debacle was supposed to be Owen, but he couldn’t be there, and we all know how that turned out. For Amelia, those people are Maggie and Meredith, and Teddy did everything to make sure that Amelia wouldn’t be left alone. Amelia embracing her in relief at the end was wonderful. These two women (undoubtedly) still harbor some not-so-nice feelings towards each other, but in that moment, all of that was put aside.
Amelia was wearing her emotions on her sleeve for the majority of this episode, which just made Caterina Scorsone’s acting even more phenomenal throughout. With every word, tear, and facial expression, we could see just how much Betty meant to Amelia, and just how strong she has become because of it. And her final monologue was so powerful and emotional. Once again, hats-off to her.
And Amelia’s been through so much on this show. She’s faced obstacles at nearly every turn, both emotionally and due to circumstance. Here scenes and storylines have been some of the most vulnerable and heart-wrenching. It’s incredibly hard to put into words what Amelia’s experiences have meant to me, but…I cried at the end of this episode. Amelia always had it in her to be a superhero, and it took awhile for her to believe it herself; now, with this episode, she’s proven it to everyone else, once and for all.

Grey’s Anatomy 15x10: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
The Good:
Meredith and Link being cute
Mer ignoring Deluca’s call (or being too preoccupied talking to Link to even see it)
Link meeting the kids! and pretending to be Thor! and just overall being adorable!
References to his backstory
The Grey’s Kids have not disappeared off the face of the Earth
Amelia and Koracick arguing and talking and being friends
Caterina Scorsone did it again with the acting this week
Jo saving the day with the tumor visualizing thing
“That fellowship doesn’t exist” -- Tom Koracick saying what everyone’s thinking
Jo asking questions about Ortho
Will she switch to Ortho??
Cute Jolex scenes <3
Glasses Dr. Schmitt actually being competent
The scenes with the Averys dealing with Catherine’s tumor.
Catharine’s final speech in the end
Maggie and Bailey looking out for their friends
Maggie looking out for Amelia (although I hope it resolves soon)
Koracick and Teddy might be a thing, and honestly, I’m here for it
The Bad:
There’s no general surgeon on Catherine’s case anymore?
Jaggie is still a thing
Merluca may still happen
This scene was cute and all but…drinking wine at a five-year-old’s birthday party may not be the best decision
They’ve done the storyline about “patient takes antibiotics and kills all their bacteria” at least twice before
Deluca performing a complex solo surgery…as a third-year resident?
With no supervision?
Owen operating with an IV bag IN him
While sick with the flu
On a woman with the flu
The Ugly:
Teddy Altman becoming Trauma Chief despite no Trauma fellowship
Teddy Altman, the woman who trained Cristina Yang
Giving up an extremely prestigious position
What she calls her “Dream Job”
And Cardiothoracic Surgery entirely
To run a random ER in Seattle
This is preposterous

Grey’s Anatomy 15x13: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
The Good:
Jolex adorableness <3
"Alex Karev being amazing as chief HE’S GROWN SO MUCH
Jo looking really bored in the scenes where she was actually working (do I sense a specialty change??)
Teddy definitively choosing Koracick over Owen. I stan.
Maggie Pierce seemed different this week. Like she had a different aura about her. I like it.
EXCELLENT SURGERIES and those cool parallel shots! I forgot how little time these docs have actually spent in an OR recently
The scenes with the gunshot victim, when the dad refuses to leave his side, and the guys were talking about places they were scared to take their kids, and the “he may die, and nothing is going to change because of it” line…they hit hard.
The Bad:
where tf is Link
Bailey was high-key annoying this ep. Jealousy does not look good on her
Deluca is acting like an ass and needs to STOP like if anything, it just highlights how immature he is compared to Mer
also Maggie/Deluca broke up because he couldn’t handle her being his boss so how is he going to deal with Meredith
Maggie was great in this episode but her problem could have easily been avoided…if only there was another extremely skilled, renowned cardiothoracic surgeon in the hospital at that very moment who could have, without a doubt, pulled off the surgery, thereby saving Kiki’s life
The Ugly:
Does Owen not realize that betty is to amelia what leo is to him?? he had NO RIGHT to say what he did
besides he knows what amelia’s going through, with betty disappearing again and again, and that she was planning to foster her permanently, how DARE he insinuate she’s nothing to their family
and quite frankly, it’s better it came out now than in the future (inevitable) custody hearings
owen hunt can f*ck off
If Omelia continues being a thing I will throw my TV across the room
I’ve had enough
(and next week’s promo. hasn’t the poor girl been through enough already?)

Grey’s Anatomy 15x09 Final Thoughts
Guys. That episode gave me a heart attack, like, fifty times. I really don’t know how to feel about it, like at all. Let’s get started.
Levi and Nico -- Karev put into words exactly what I was thinking about these two: there is a time and place, and this was not it. Like I said in my 15x08 post, these two had no business making out in an easily-tippable ambulance when the hospital needed doctors during a superstorm. It seemed like a stupid plot device, and a completely unrealistic thing to happen, even by Grey’s standards. I’m not sure if I like these two together or not: they definitely have chemistry, but it really seems like the only thing Nico’s on the show for is to provide a romantic interest to Glasses. Given Levi’s terrible luck, I don’t really know if this is a good pair or not, especially since we literally know nothing about Nico.
Amelia/Owen/Teddy --
Caterina Scorsone’s acting was once again outstanding this week, with the billion terrible things that were thrown at Amelia all at once. Even though Amelia’s never been one to voice everything she thinks until it bubbles over, everything running through her head was shown on through her actions, her expressions, and the way she phrased her lines.
There is no other doctor that has gone through as much Amelia has and is still struggling, nor is there any other doctor who deserves a break more than she does. Yet, in the span of 45 minutes, she manages to have her love and family life thrown into turmoil. I think she did a very big thing by letting Owen make up his own mind (not that she had much of a choice), and given the circumstances (she just asked him to help her co-foster Betty!), she handled the Teddy situation maturely. That being said, I find it very hard to believe she will eventually get back with Owen, given everything. And on top of all that, she’s sending Betty away (again, not much of a choice), so she really has no one right now.
I’ve said this before, but Teddy was one of my favorite characters when she was on the show earlier. At one point, I was rooting for her and Owen, but not like this. Again, the circumstances she found herself in were out of her control, although I have to wonder -- did the writers just…forget about her heart issue? Or the fact that she’s something like 48 years old, which brings its own issues when it comes to pregnancy?
I have nothing to say about Owen except that he doesn’t deserve either Amelia or Teddy. And yes, he didn’t ask for a child with Teddy. But UGH he needs to really reevaluate his life choices.
Side note -- that elevator surgery looked so cool holy heck
Webber/Betty -- Look at these two, helping each other. I like that we got to see Betty’s turmoil a bit, and I like how Webber didn’t talk down to her, but made sure she kept out of trouble all the same. It’s interesting that even though Betty supposedly only came back for drugs, she still didn’t want Amelia to find out about it. I hope we see more of those two in the future.
Jackson --
I still don’t like Jaggie. Maggie deserves better. But I’m glad she’s there for him right now. He needs someone in his corner.
We need to talk about his scenes this episode though. I think they were actually written very well. Someone close to him is dying, and doesn’t want him to know about it, so he can’t talk about it with anyone. In classic Jackson behavior, he tries to save everyone else, sometimes overreacting in order to do this.
My first thought when I saw the Jackson vs. Link scene was that it was very similar so the episode where a famous snowboarder asked Callie to give him a new hip using a procedure she was unfamiliar with, even though she thought the safer option was something else. The operation ended up costing the man his legs. Here, Link knows that a better option would be to amputate, but Jackson wants to try and save them. It looks like everything worked out, but they were very lucky.
Link -- I’m part of the minority that really likes him and Mer together. I wish we got more scenes with him (when he’s not getting yelled at), especially since he’s a new character with an intriguing past that deserves to be explored. I do wish he put Jackson, a plastic surgeon, in his place when he tried to force his idea into an ortho problem. But it does post an interesting difference to Callie, who would have just kicked Jackson out without even listening.
Meredith/Deluca/Link --
So we’ve established that Meredith and Deluca share a mutual attraction to one another, despite the age difference / superior - subordinate problem / lack of chemistry. Cool. I still think Deluca’s rotating through relationships far too quickly to be healthy, and that he’s rushing into things with Mer.
I’m really happy Meredith’s happy though. Whoever she chooses (if at all), she’ll be happy. But I do hope it’s Link.
Alex / Bailey --
I think the ending scene speaks for itself. These two have been through so much, and this scene just reinforced their friendship and years working together.
Alex finally started acting like a chief in this episode. From yelling at Schmico to solving problems left and right to Bailey, he really shone. What a badass.
Bailey being vulnerable is not a side we see often, and I’m worried for her. That being said, did the writers just forget she’s struggled with this before? I’m confused.
Cece -- God, I cried. What a heartbreaking scene. After all the doctors went through to save her, she didn’t survive. And the fact that all the doctors she helped were there in the room with her…it was very sad.
And finally, next week’s promo promises more Link/Meredith (yay!), Jackson dealing with his mom, Thatcher (??!), and Amelia talking to Owen. I hope there’s some Jolex sprinkled in there too, but we’ll see. It looks like the second half of this season is setting up to be a good one!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly, probably the best part of the episode. THEY’RE FINALLY ENGAGED :D
ALSO, OMELIA IS BACK TOGETHER? KINDA? double wedding in the future, maybe?
Koracick grew on me this episode. I think he and April will be good for each other, and hopefully, they’ll BOTH get good endings at the end of this season :)
(ps. Congrats to Sarah Drew <3 <3 )
I actually liked the flashbacks. If any of you watched Stitchers, they were very Paternis-esque (except instead of every couple breaking up, every couple got back together) :) :)
That being said, there were some things I didn’t like. I’m too happy to properly delve into them so I’ll just put them into bullet form:
Lack of Bailey / Chief / Arizona / Owen / pretty much anyone besides jolex, jaggie, and Meredith. Also, serious lack of surgeries on a Medical drama.
April having Koracick over and having Harriet for the night as well…while drunk (or about to be). She should know better. Hell, Jackson should know better.
APRIL KEPNER IS HAVING A BREAKDOWN AND WHERE IS HER “BEST FRIEND”???
and where is that best friend’s girlfriend, for that matter? or that best friend’s girlfriend’s brother? or any of the interns? I kinda hate them but I want more Casey Parker, dammit
Meredith’s biggest stories in the early-Grey’s were around her feelings towards her mother, and now, when she’s finally forgiven Ellis, they go and do this? Mer doesn’t deserve this.
JAGGIE. enough said. Get these two off of my screen, stat
Fetus Maggie. It would have been tolerable had they not made the character a mashup of every nerd-girl stereotype ever
Jo not applying for fellowships elsewhere. That’s a stupid move. Also, Alex kinda manipulated her into doing that?
Jo specializing in Peds. That girl was made for ortho. ofc not having an ortho surgeon for 2 years to train you kinda puts a damper on things, but still
Sorry this is a lot shorter / more informal / not as in-depth as I normally make them. It’s 11pm over here and I have a 10-page report due tomorrow that I haven’t started, plus I can’t really think straight. I mean, who didn’t start grinning like a fool when Jo said, “Alex, I’m wearing it”? <3 <3 <3
Anyway, let me know your thoughts on the episode. Until next time!
