The thought of traveling away from the only place he had ever known scared Kaoru, but it was also an exciting thought. It would only be temporary, he knew that, but it would feel nice to get away from the suffocation he felt whenever his father talked to him. 

He must have been smiling, because Rei poked his cheek and grinned at him. 

“I think little Kaoru likes that idea more than he lets on.” 

Kaoru felt his face heat up and buried it back in his knees. He heard Rei chuckle as he laid an arm across Kaoru’s shoulders.

Are you named after anyone? My birth name? Not that I know of. I picked my online names after Shay Assassin's Creed and Queenie/Julie Code Name Verity though
