Loads of Liverpool fans are panicking over a potential injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as the England international attended Saturday’s Club World Cup trophy ceremony with crutches and a protective boot. The Reds fought through a gruelling 120 minutes to finally be crowned world champions in Qatar, as Roberto Firmino’s extra-time goal won the day. Jurgen Klopp’s side may have thought they had a huge chance to win it before extra-time was required as Sadio Mane was awarded a late penalty, but the referee overturned the decision with help from VAR. Even despite what was some rather shambolic refereeing though, only one thing is dominating Liverpool fans’ concerns following the win, as plenty are worrying over the damage to Oxlade-Chamberlain. The 26 year-old, who of course missed nearly all of last season with a knee injury, appeared to twist his ankle as he went down under a challenge, and was visibly upset as he spoke with medical staff. He did eventually wave the stretcher away and walk off under his own power, but he was then spotted with crutches and in a protective boot after the match. John Barnes Says Returning Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Could Be Like a New Signing for Liverpool
Liverpool legend John Barnes has said that the returning Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be like a new signing for the Reds, and could help spur the team over the line in the Premier League title race.
A horrific injury towards the tail end of last season kept the midfielder out of the Champions League final in Kiev, and was expected to keep him sidelined for pretty much all of the 2018/19…

Embed from Getty Images Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to miss the majority of the 2018-19 season as his rehabilitation from a knee injury continues. The news was revealed by Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, who said that the club have known all along just how serious the injury, suffered in the Champions League against Roma in April, was. Embed from Getty Images Klopp said: It feels like now is an appropriate time to tell people that for Ox, this season will be about focusing on recovery and rehab. We have known this from pretty much the day after he got the injury. The new information is that we’re now giving more detail publicly. Typical of Ox, he didn’t want the news to overshadow the end of the season and, to be quite honest, we thought we could wait and tell people at an appropriate time. His surgery – which he had on the day of our second leg in Roma – has been completely successful and his recovery has started superbly well. But the truth of the matter is that we are preparing this season knowing he will not be with us on the pitch for competitive matches for the majority of it. If we do see him back this season it will be a bonus. Oxlade-Chamberlain enjoyed a renaissance under Klopp last season, after making the move from Arsenal. The 24-year-old became a key element in the Reds’ midfield, with his energy and forward-thinking helping his side enjoy their best campaign in some years. Embed from Getty Images However, Oxlade-Chamberlain would ultimately miss out on both the Champions League final and the World Cup, due to that knee ligament injury, which is not set to keep the midfielder out of action for some time to come. While the news will come as a shock to Liverpool fans, the fact that Oxlade-Chamberlain himself has been aware of the situation for sometimes means he will hopefully be staying positive. Indeed, he posted a photo on Instagram at the end of June showing him back in training… Work mode A post shared by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (@alexoxchamberlain) on Jun 28, 2018 at 5:08am PDT It’s all very sad for a player who looked to finally be making the most of his plentiful talents with Liverpool. However, with the likes of Naby Keita and Fabinho moving to Anfield this summer, the club should be able to make up for his unfortunate absence. Good luck Ox! #AlexOxladeChamberlain #KneeInjury #OxladeChamberlain
