Dude Watership Down’s ending is so good. My neck is the warm sore kind of fuzzy now but it’s alright, headaches are pretty weekly anyways.
#I’m assuming that Hazel became apart of the black rabbits Oswla#it solidifies him as an impressive character#though he himself isn’t super remarkable#he’s a good leader while not having to be strong or extremely clever#he gets a sealed place away in one of the most important rolls because of it#at first I though it was el’s owsla but then I remembered the black rabbit had one#watership down

I'm still genuinely so surprised Woundwort x Campion isn't more popular in the 1999 Watership down fandom-- like, I'm sorry but that pairing has way more genuine chemistry than blackberry and Campion--
Blackberry had like, split second conversation with him and they're both suddenly madly in love? I love a little love at first sight but this is ridiculous--
Meanwhile Campion is over here feeling so much genuine regret for betraying woundwort, and woundwort is so obsessive with Campion that he ahem
Attacked his own owsla in a fit of mournful rage after Campions (supposed) death
Had night terrors thinking about him
Cared way too much about what Campion thought of him
Didn't care that he betrayed him, was just concerned about if campion thought he was a good person or not
List goes on but you get the picture, when I finish season 3 ik im gonna have way more to add--
Seriously, how tf is the only Campwort fanart my own???
I'm just still so flabbergasted about it can we PLZ recognize the old man toxic rabbit yaoi???

One thing I noticed (and well I did read some people say it) is that the Watership Down adaptations ignore the small detail that Bigwig actually DID believe Fiver. He tells him himself that he does believe in that sort of thing and doesn't understand why Thearah doesn't.
If he later gets upset with him in Cowslip's it was because up to that point Bigwig thought that was already his destiny and saw it as a good place. He had not yet put his faith in Fiver completely so he felt annoyed to see him so insistent on leaving when to him there didn't seem to be any problem with that den, yet he was also a dissatisfied and somewhat hardened Buck looking for a better life and he seemed to have found it. Then when he is saved from the snare his first action is to APOLOGIZE to Fiver and for him to now tell him what they should do.
The movie doesn't dig into that and you assume Bigwig left because he trusted Hazel and didn't like Threarah and the miniseries works much the same only it makes Bigwig much more aggressive and doubtful. The TV series is...weird. As you have Bigwig constantly trying to belittle Fiver and quite dubious. Moreover, the fact that he looks so Simp with Holly and his pride in being "Owsla" makes you doubt why the hell he went with them in the first place.
#watership down#bigwig#lepur stupid thoughts#yeah rambling time#maybe is something lost in translation but i always saw Bigwig like a kind and patient guy that sometimes it could be a bit tough#so i never understand why the adaptations made him so so angry#grumpy/rude and bloody-minded

these are my problems with color bass
1. there has been no central collective/label for a year now. Rushdown, the label created by Chime, was the source for a vast amount of inspiration as well as a way for legitimately innovative, interesting, or just plain good songs to get discovered with the Rushdown Presents volumes. Rushdown has been on hiatus for a year, and nothing has came to take its place - the bigger artists have mostly migrated to Monstercat Uncaged, though some have done songs with NCS and others. other kinds of bass music have swaths of labels actively supporting them, like OWSLA, Never Say Die, and Disciple for brostep.
2. it is a subgenre carried, creatively, by trends. the world learned of it from Virtual Riot, who then shared how the color bass doggo VIP of REDLINE was done - by moving every non-drum sound through instances of Zynaptic Pitchmap. this led to large amounts of people hopping in for "use plugin, make song good like vr!!" and the decimation of Pitchmap for like a year. now, recently, Xynth Audio's Chroma is the new hot plugin. another FFT pitching plugin, but with a cleaner algorithm and a vastly lighter load on CPU. it was pushed by the heavily-involved artist Nasko, followed by artists like Paper Skies and Chime praising it. a disgusting amount of amateur color bass is just [bass sounds then fed through 1 plugin to colorize] as well as every atmosphere, leading to an incredibly homogenous, uninteresting sound. that's just for the people who make their own sounds! on the other hand...
3a. the reliance on previously established artists' sounds to make their own music. so, SO many color bass tutorials from smaller creators are "take a handful of Sharks or Chime or Skybreak or KERO basses, arrange them, (optional) add phase dispersion, add OTT, cut out <100hz, add your own sub. then take a bunch of Sharks ear candy and pads, layer them under the basses. add drums" and that's fucking it. genuinely, 90% of all color bass tutorials are like that. and that's just tutorials, what people are teaching - imagine how many songs by these people or those they've taught have done the exact same thing. it's completely generic to the core, and has led to an intense stagnation.
3b. overwhelmingly, some of the only people teaching color bass sound design are the most popular artists and typically behind paywalls. Chime and Au5 are the biggest of this, w/ Chime's very densely-packed Patreon full of sample packs and tutorials and Au5 having a years-ongoing School of Bass masterclass as well as selling individual track breakdowns for songs like Cryptochrome. information exists for free, of course - Au5's "6 Ways to Color Bass" is very popular due to its breakdown between every type of method, but it lacks detail or application beyond "i have these basses made already and here's what they sound like with [x]". it also completely ignores the source basses, meaning half the battle is totally blind. Convexity and Chime especially have videos (Patreon-exclusive unless you just so happen to have links to the unlisted youtube videos :3c) with what arelikely the best at delving into the what and why, with Convexity's having a better focus on the underlying chords and composition. Skybreak has good Patreon videos too, going over specific sound design techniques like Harmor crystally basses and weird pitched glitches.
#just needed to like. Say that#fuck i need the School of Bass for The Other Side by Au5 and Chime#and the breakdown of Cryptochrome#soulseek fails me here </3 because theyre like 1 hour+ videos that are like $60 each at LEAST i think#i chose not to say anything about the melodic riddim side. not because i like it#i really dont but thats not a thing i can point to - i just dont like riddim lmfao

Random Watership Down Thoughts
- Vervain’s sense of purpose is completely dependent on serving Woundwort and he’s too afraid to find something better for himself.
- Bigwig and Spartina’s relationship came out of nowhere and has the least development when compared to Hazel and Primrose and Blackberry and Campion’s relationship. I’m not saying the relationship is bad or that Spartina isn’t a good fit for Bigwig but Spartina went from being a spy in one episode and his lover in the next with little to no context or growth and they deserve better than that!
- Silverweed is severely misunderstood: He’s a good rabbit but his mystic powers made him an outsider and Cowslip made it worse by using him as a storyteller.
- All of Woundwort’s hate stems from unresolved trauma from his past. Everything he did was inexcusable but he needs serious help (this is especially true in season 3. His mind just split after the first episode of the season).
- Similarly while I’d love to see a redemption arc for Woundwort, I’m not sure if he can be fully forgiven for everything he’s done. I think he’s somewhat more redeemable than Cowslip though (he’s too sick in the head and only does anything if it serves him somehow).
- Hickory and Marigold’s design in the 3rd season kind of bothers me. Their designs are great, but they look so similar that I thought they were siblings at one point (this was back when I first saw them when I was little).
- The Darkhaven rabbits are essentially a rabbit cult but the history of the warren sounds very interesting and relevant to Woundwort’s evil.
- Woundwort, Vervain and Campion’s relationship is the most damaged and abusive in the entire series and you can see how much it affects them: Vervain goes from respecting Campion to hating and resenting him while also conflicted about being loyal to Woundwort and being sick of him, Campion is heavily conflicted about betraying Woundwort and still struggles with it during season 3 but also knows it was the right thing and Woundwort never gets over Campion’s betrayal and tolerates Vervain.
- In a nutshell, Woundwort, Campion and Vervains relationship with each other is what break up and pop songs are made for.
- Blackavar was only relevant in the TV series for a few episodes but then disappeared (despite having a slightly bigger role in the movie) and Buttercup (from the winter episodes) was never seen or heard from again.
- I would have loved to see a spin off series about Moss and the Efrafans after they left Watership Down and see how their dynamics and relationships changed and see Moss as a leader.
- Skree is a missed opportunity to explore other possible allies with elil.
- Hazel and Primrose’s kittens gained some relevancy in season 3 (as the junior owsla) and that is why they are a consistent three with names versus the previous random baby rabbits we saw in season 2.
- Vervain is both an asshole and a coward yet I somehow feel bad for him at season 3.
- If Vervain didn’t survive at the end of season 3, I would have liked to see Granite survive and join Watership Down. That poor giant marshmallow deserves a better life.
- I think Campion had some feelings for Primrose at one point. I don’t know if I’d call it a crush but he does respect her and cares about her.
- Red Stone warren has the saddest history in the whole series.
- Bigwig and Woundwort are my favorites but I like just about everyone in the TV series. I can’t think of a single character I don’t like (yes I even like Vervain and Cowslip).
- The TV series is full of complex characters.
- I don’t know if it was originally written for it but the song Bright Eyes is the theme song for the entire Watership Down franchise and no one can convince me otherwise.
- Bigwig’s design in season 3 kind of reminds me of Cruella’s fur coat in 101 Dalmatians. I don’t know why the designs changed in season 3 but I don’t necessarily dislike them (I actually like Woundwort’s design in season 3 more than his design in season 2. I like Bigwig’s season 3 design too but it made me think he grew old when I was little XD).
- Getting Silverweed out of Cowslip’s warren is arguably one of the few good things Woundwort did. Why? Because, while Woundwort only did it to serve his own purposes, him getting Silverweed would eventually lead to Hazel and the others bringing him to Watership Down and giving him the freedom and happiness he so deserved. He didn’t mean for that to happen but I would count this as an accidental good deed on Woundwort’s part.
- Pipkin is the most wholesome character of the TV series as he see’s the good in everyone he meets and can make friends with just about anyone.
- Spoiler but the TV series ends with the Black Rabbit basically coming in and saying: “I don’t care who started it, I’m finishing it!” like a parent whose had enough of their kids bickering.
- You know you went too far when even the Black Rabbit of Inle is sick of your bullshit.
- Vervain has had countless opportunities for redemption but he consistently chooses not to take them. He’s either too much of a coward to take them or he’s not confident enough in himself to try.
- Also, Vervain is no fighter but he enjoys having power over other rabbits.
- Just about all the Watership Down rabbits have relatable moments.
- Speaker of The Past (or Speaker, she never got a name) mentioned that Hemlock (Woundwort’s father) had other sons before having Woundwort, implying that Woundwort had older brothers and was the baby of the family. Are any of his brothers still alive? Probably not but it makes me sad we didn’t get to see Woundwort get reunited with a surviving relative who later tries to reason with him…I think I have an OC idea now.
- The idea that Woundwort might have once been someone’s baby brother is as cute as it is sad. I would have loved to know more about his family.
- Hannah is a mood!
- Woundwort still laughs about that ‘hedge wizard’ incident and never lets Vervain forget it. Meanwhile, Vervain is still convinced he saw a hedge wizard. The story doesn’t help his reputation at Darkhaven as many rabbits (manly Granite) tease him for it.

Watership Down/FNAF AU: The Fiver Roo
Having a Watership Down fixation rn and I can’t help but make a fnaf au about it (I apologize if some don’t look exactly like rabbits cuz realistic lagomorphs aren’t my specialty lol)
so basically these are supposed to be the missing children! For this au they’re called the “Fiver Roo” and if you don’t know about lapine language it literally translates to “little five” (fiver: five, Roo: little) Charlie is added here too bc of the space but mostly it’s still the first five. William still kills them but instead of them possessing animatronics, their spirits haunt Will after they die (when he becomes springtrap they still somewhat haunt him)
I’m not sure what their names would be in the watership down world so I’m just gonna use their actual names for now
warning! Mentions of rabbit death and violence!!
Brown rabbit kit: Gabriel - William promised him with the mention of flayrah (good food) and Gabriel believed him. However instead of food, William was leading him to a dog. He was able to escape the predator with ease but unfortunately, little Gabriel was not
Yellow Rabbit kit: Susie - The second youngest out of the five. William tricked Susie into following him by telling her where her playmates were. He kills her by breaking both of her hind legs as to render her useless and before she could scream he snaps her neck
Blueish gray rabbit kit: Jeremy - Jeremy sits by a river, a little far off from the warren. He likes collecting rocks there. William tricks him by promising where to find the best rocks. Jeremy dies by drowning as William forces his head down in the water and puts his entire weight on him
Reddish brown rabbit kit: Fritz - The oldest out of the five. Fritz is known by the extra fuzz on his head and his love for a game of bobstones (a traditional game between rabbits). William challenges him to a game and they do play for a bit. The loser will have to give up their next bit of food to the champion. Fritz ends up winning but William attacks him. He doesn’t expect Fritz to fight back and the older kit actually manages to put a nick in him. But it isn’t enough to take down the leader of the Owsla and William kills him too
Black rabbit kit: Cassidy - Cassidy began to suspect what happens to the missing kits and goes off to find them. William notices this and cannot let it happen. So he is able to make her trust him and he leads Cassidy away. Cassidy quickly figures out that he is the killer and goes on a 1 on 1 with him. As they scuffle, William sees a hidden snare trap in the undergrowth and forces Cassidy into the trap. As she suffocates, William still lands blows on her as she slowly dies out of the lack of oxygen and the wounds inflicted upon her
Ginger-ish rabbit kit: Charlie (extra) - The youngest. Daughter of the chief rabbit. Got lost in the rain and tries to find her way back to the warren. Charlie finds William, her father’s closest friend, and hops to him for help. But she was never able to get back home. William kills her out of jealousy and impulse
I definitely plan to make more characters into this life’s like the rest of the Afton family, Henry, and also Vanessa :)
#fnaf#five nights at freddy's#my art#watership down#fnaf au#the missing children#just an excuse to draw rabbits#I can’t wait to show you all about what I have in mind for springtrap#ofc I wanna do other characters as well#you’re welcome to add your own ideas too!!

I can't remember if I posted this or just typed it out once and deleted it, BUT!
There's something I long for in an animated Watership Down that I haven't seen. It's a one-off line in Hazel's thoughts before he joins El-ahrairah (novel) or Inle (film) that I'd like to see done as -
"Come, and join my Owsla"
and then El-ahrairah dashes away, crossing a river as Hazel slowly hops forward. When he gets to the opposite bank, El-ahrairah turns back
"Come along! No room for slouches in my Owsla"
"It's just, I'm feeling a bit tired sir. Heavy..."
"Well leave some of that behind. I don't think you're going to need it where we're going"
and that's when Hazel's spirit hops forward. A younger, far more lithe rabbit than the body he leaves behind, quickly crossing the river in 2 bounds to catch up with his prince.
Maybe have the prince leap further away, and Hazel looks back when he reaches the opposite bank. That would be a good time for the line about not "worrying about his Warren. He did his job and they will prosper for generations and generations"
Idunno. Just my thoughts on a changeup of the scene I'd like to see. Despite the blood the original, the film and the book live on in my heart

Next physical book to knock off of my TBR; Watership Down!!
The old 70s(?) animated film is one of my favourite films of all time. If you haven’t seen it please I beg of you go watch it, it’s so good. (I’ve only seen half of the Netflix one and I don’t remember anything of it)
Anyway, I’ve had the book for ages but never actually read it, but now I am!!
I’m looking forward to seeing all of the story play out. I’m obsessed with the rabbit words, they all have just the best mouthfeel. Owsla. Threarah. Hrairoo. Incredible.
Also stan Bigwig 🐰👑

Bluebell!! I LOVE Bluebell, he was one of my favorite characters reading the book. He's just such a funny, sillay guy, in spite of everything. I like to think his optimism and good humor is his own way of fighting back the tragedy and spitting it square in the face. Best clown.
His design shapes and colors definitely draws from bluebell flowers! I also knew I wanted to prioritize his cheerful jokester nature (over his role as an Owsla officer?? I think it's implied enough in the book that I can assume he was, even if not outright stated, but to which ???? YOU? who made you an officer?? Holly?? (maybe that makes sense actually 💀)), so I gave him big jester-hat-ish ears and rounded shapes and soft colors.

"Not of all rabbits, of course," Fiver responded in an amused tone. "Just of our warren."
He hopped on along after Brutus, his nose rising into the air trying to pick up any familiar scent of Flay-Rah, he was usually rather good at hunting the stuff down, when he was a younger buck he'd find them for Hazel and eat them together when the Owsla weren't looking.
"I'm not worried about that," Fiver said. "Even if you did, Bigwig would be the one to stand in your way and he's... Lets just say he's passionate about protecting our home."
" Oh? Your brother's the chief of the rabbits? " that was information that could be useful to Brutus later. For now, the large rat decided to be helpful. it was surprising that this rabbit did not attack him, most rabbits considered all to be their enemy. " Well, I'll try to find some of that other stuff you were looking for earlier," he said with a shrug. Or ask Mr. Ages about it. if any-mouse knew about herbs and greens it was that old man.
" Don't worry though, I won't follow you to your burrow. "

Not having many female characters never made much sense from a natural social structure perspective.
Quick note: European rabbits do have strict social hierarchy with dominant and subordinates. There is, however, no alpha, beta, and omega, which is a myth caused by a failed captive wolf study.
In the wild, european rabbits have a strict social hierarchy based on the sexes. There will be a dominant buck and doe. This pair will accept many subordinate does into a warren. Some subordinate bucks are accepted into adulthood. But many will be chased off by the dominant buck. I'm guessing this means a smaller warren may have more does than bucks. A larger one may be more equal. Bucks need space from the dominant buck. The does outrank all bucks (except the dominant), even being allowed to reject the dominant buck's advances. The dominant buck outranks most members, but the dominant doe outranks all rabbits, including this buck.
An owsla being comprised of bucks would not happen. Naturally, the subordinate bucks have a "forced" form of monogamy to one subordinate doe. Not being allowed to mate with other does due to the dominant buck stopping them. The dominant buck is technically polygamous but will give most of his attention to the dominant doe (even outside of breeding season).
The dominant bucks are the only patrolling rabbits. Patrolling his territory to check for other bucks who might want to fight him for the title of dominant buck. All rabbits are alert for threats and will signal any rabbit to said danger (even to a rabbit from an unrelated warren).
So Hazel-rah, Threah-rah and general Woundwort would be the ones patrolling. Subordinate bucks do not patroll.
Ps. A dominant buck usually just wants to mate with the dominant doe but can mate with any doe, even those claimed by a subordinate buck. The dominant doe will never mate with a subordinate if she has a choice.
Funnily enough, the structure Adams presents mirrors a more patriarchal society. Prehaps, Woundwort, with his warren based on a military camp, would make more sense to do this. But not Hazels new or original warren.
As for who would go with Hazel, any rabbit might. Predation is not the only thing controlling warrens from overcrowding. Subordinate does will leave voluntarily. Subordinate bucks can be forced out by the dominant buck or leave voluntarily aswell.
A buck will make forms to shelter in or try to join another warren, while does make the warrens. They are the diggers.
Subordinate does will leave to increase their social standing in an newly created warren, usually a marauder buck will join (usually a kicked out subordinate or a dominant who lost to another dominant male). The rabbits will be joined by more does, who fight for dominance or their own offspring.
Strangely, as shown by the study in the book The private life of rabbits by Ronald M. Lockley, a dominant doe, will be stubborn when leaving their claimed warren. The dominant doe in one study decided to stay in a flooded warren, while her younger daughter readily made a new one.
Hazel would have gotten many rabbits to leave with a mention of danger, a hope of hierarchy change is good too. If rabbits live by fear, it wouldn't matter if it's breeding season. Some mothers will leave for other warrens even with kits.
The social behaviour of rabbits is informed by the book Private life if the rabbit by Ronald M. Lockley. Which I own myself.
Since Adams also owns this book, there really is no excuse. He used this book to inform him on behaviour of european rabbits.
It's more likely it was based on the standard adventure group not having many female members (see the smurfette principle) commonly seen in literature. Even today you see examples of this. This explains the films including of Violet, and the book's Clover. With Hyzenthlay joining in the end.
The second reason is that it's a plot point. It drives Hazel and gang to go to Efrafa and the farm. Both big dangers in the book and film.
We don't need to think of reasons why this happened. It's a product of its time. Thankfully, Adam realised the criticism and included more female stories in his spin off, Tales from Watership down. But it certainly is flawed.
I like approaching Watership Down through a firmly non-human lens. Yes, the book is flawed and carries its author's intent through the writing. But I choose to interpret the novel strictly through the rabbits' eyes or I'll go insane trying to justify why they forgot to bring any females with them. Luckily the book makes a lot of effort to put us on the level of the rabbits, so I feel comfortable acknowledging the bigotry of Richard Adams (an old white British dude) while also separating him from the text. The rabbits simply do not think like humans do.
