Coronavirus from a Pennsylvania point of view

Hi there! Before I begin, I just want to let you know who I am. I;m a 22 year old college student in Eastern Pennsylvania. My county currently is in the red phase (total lock-down. nothing open). We have been in lock-down here since March. March 16th, 2020, PA governor Tom Wolf order a state wide shutdown. In his statement, Wolf said it would be 2 weeks with a stay at home order so we could flatten the curve.

Fast forward to April first. Wolf extends our lock-down for another 30 days. April 3rd, everyone is required to wear masks. April 9th, he closes all schools, cancels graduations and orders online classes.

May. We are now in the middle of May, a little more than a week away from the biggest summer kickoff weekend, and no end in sight. PA began moving to Yellow phase of reopening, but only some counties. I still remain in red. Our lock-down has been extended until June 4th and they are looking to re-extend it to July 17th. 

Now, let me just explain why I am so annoyed and over this Covid19 bullshit. I go to a public college in Berks county. There are approx. 8,500 students enrolled, almost 500 instructional staff, over 200 food service staff and about 50 janitorial, repair and grounds-keeper service staff. We have had 0 cases of the Coronavirus since March. I work at an RTF with a couple hundred clients and staff, and we have only had 8 confirmed cases. I went to the hospital the other night and there was nobody there. The emergency room was empty, half the beds were empty.

I do not know anybody personally who has been infected by this virus. Everybody I have talked to, does not know anybody personally who has been infected. Where are these numbers coming from? How are there supposed thousands of new cases a day in my county .. in my state .. ? 

Back in April I went to get tested because my job had positive cases and my doctor sent me as a precaution. The testing center was empty. All their supplies were fully stocked. Their list of names of people who were ordered a test was able to fit on half a sheet of paper. So please, explain to me how this virus is causing thousands of new cases, but nobody seems to have it.

PA residents are tired of sitting in our homes. And I’m sure the rest of the states are as well. We need to open our eyes and realize we got played by the government. Our 2 week quarantine to “flatten the curve” turned into almost an entire quarter of our year spent in lock-down.
