“Mommy! Daddy!” A tiny voice sounds through the early morning immediately waking you and your husband, Owen Strand, up. That tiny voice would belong to your and your husband's 4-year-old son, Dakota Strand. You and Owen had met through Grace and Judd Ryder and the both of you hit off pretty well. The two of you dated for about 2 years and then got married and have been married for 4 years. Owen’s son, TK Strand, and you hit it off pretty well. You treated him like a son and he treated you like a mother and he even started to call you mom and you were delighted. When you told them both that you were expecting they both were ecstatic and they treated you like a queen and still do. When you met Carlos Reyes, TK’s boyfriend, you didn’t judge them one bit and opened them with open arms, you even considered him a son.
“Babe, our son is calling to us.” You said already starting to wake up and he groaned.
“Who is taking this one?” Owen asked and you chuckled as he sat up and so did you.
“He called for both of us.” You said
“Well then we better get going.” He said as he was starting to push the covers back and you did the same.
“Mommy! Daddy!” Dakota said
“We’re coming, Bud!” Owen said as the both of you walked out of the room and down the hall and to his room. When you got there, he was sitting up and tear tracks were running down his cheeks and your heart broke.
“Kota, what’s wrong?” You asked coming over to sit on his bed and he crawled into your lap.
“I had a bad dream.” He said as he snuggled into your chest and you stroked his dark hair that he had got from his father, it was scary at how similar he looked to his father with almost no trace of you. Sometimes you were jealous but your husband was so good looking you didn’t mind it. You looked up at Owen and his face was one of sadness and worry.
“What was it about?” Owen asked as he came to kneel in front of the two of you.
“You and TK went into a building and you didn’t come out.” He said and your heart broke further.
“Oh, Bud. Your brother and I will always come back to you.” Owen said and he looked at him with his father’s eyes.
“Really?” He asked
“Really, they’re always super safe. You know why?” You asked and he looked up at you.
“Why, Momma?” He asked
“Because they love us and don’t want to leave us behind.” You said and sniffled and you wiped his eyes with your thumb.
“I wanna see TK and Carlos.” He said and you chuckled and smiled and Owen smiled.
“How about we see them for lunch before they go to work?” You asked
“Ok!” Dakota said happily.
“You have a few more hours before having to get up. Do you want to sleep here or with us?” Owen asked, running a hand through his son’s hair.
“You.” He said sleepily and you smiled.
“We can certainly make that happen.” You said “Up we go.”  You said and started to stand up with him. You repositioned him to make it more comfortable on him and you. Dakota laid his head on your shoulder and started to fall back to sleep as you and Owen started the walk back to your room. Owen smiled at the sight. You sat down on the bed and laid your now sleeping child down on the bed in the middle as Owen went to his side and sat down and started to lay down. You made sure Dakota was comfortable and then you laid down. Owen and you both turned on your side to look at each other.
“This is the 4th night he has had this nightmare.” Owen whispered and you nodded.
“I know. I think there is something more to it.” You said and then yawned.
“We’ll figure it out now get some sleep. We’ll sort it out in the morning.” Owen said and you nodded.
“Sounds like a good plan.” You said and then you were closing your eyes and snuggling into your son. Owen stayed awake for a few minutes longer taking in the scene and thinking about how lucky he was to have you both, and TK as family. With those thoughts running through his head, he slipped off into sleep.
The next time you were waking up was when your alarm started to go off and you groaned and you quickly shut it off. You quickly noticed the lack of heat and little body that was snuggled into you all night and then when your hand met an empty bedside where your husband slept you weren’t too concerned. You knew Dakota was with his father and it only confirmed it when you started to smell something delicious coming from the kitchen that had you getting up and making your way there. When you got there your husband was standing behind your son as they stood over the stove, Owen making sure that Dakota didn't burn himself even if he did then he would be able to treat it. You smiled at the scene and thanked yourself for grabbing your phone before snapping pictures. “Do you think Mommy will like them?” Dakota asked and Owen smiled.
“I think anything you make for Mommy she's gonna love because she loves you.” He said and attacked him with kisses making him giggle a sound you both loved.
“This is the sight I love to see.” You said and they both turned around.
“Mommy!” Dakota shrieked “Down, Daddy.” He said and Owen helped him down and he ran to you. He jumped and thankfully you had fast reflexes and caught him.
“Hi, Baby. Are you helping daddy with breakfast?” You asked
“Uh huh.” He said nodding.
“Actually, it's almost ready. Carlos and TK should be over here any minute now.” Owen said
“Oh, I thought they were coming for lunch?” You asked
“They were but had something come up with afternoon and wanted to do breakfast.” Owen said
“Well, that's wonderful! I'm gonna go and get us ready for the day while you get everything ready.” You said
“Sounds wonderful.” He said and that's what you set out to do. Once you both were changed and teeth brushed there was a knock on the door and Dakota looked at you wide eyes.
“You know who that is?” You asked
“Carlos and TK!” He shouted and then he was rushing off to the door with you not far behind.
“Hey, no running.” Owen scolded as he got food onto plates.
“Sorry, Daddy.” He said as he reached the door and was about to open it before you stopped him.
“Hey, no opening the doors without one of us.” You said and he nodded and you grabbed the door handle and opened it.
“TK! CARLOS!” He shouted and rushed to them and TK picked him up.
“There's my little buddy.” He said and hugged him. “Hi, mom.” He said looking at you and you smiled.
“Hi, Baby.” You said and hugged him as Dakota was passed to Carlos.
“Hi, Mrs. Strand.” Carlos said as he hugged you as Dakota was quickly transferred to TK as he asked to be back in TK's who was heading into the kitchen with his little brother.
“Hi, Carlos. Please call me Y/N.” You said, chuckling as you released him.
“If you want.” He said smiling.
“Come on, the food is ready.” You said and then he was walking into the kitchen as you shut the door. You joined them in the kitchen. Dakota was talking TK's and Carlos’ ear off but they could care the least bit. Breakfast was eaten with some fun mixed in and many many laughs were thrown out. Carlos and TK stayed until they needed to leave which everyone was sad about but Dakota was the most upset about it, he loved his older brother even if they weren’t full brothers.
Lunch came and went and the rest of the time was spent with Owen cuddling his youngest son and cuddling you. You had him do some stuff that he needed to do that couldn’t and wouldn’t be able to do such as using the ladder. Yes, you were capable of using a ladder but Owen didn’t like it just because he wanted to keep you safe. Although you do get on there and he doesn’t know about it but what he doesn’t know what hurt him. Currently you were helping him pack his bag more like you were putting the clothes that Dakota was taking out back in. Dakota always struggled with his dad leaving but he usually got over it after a few hours he was gone. After about the fifth time Owen was getting frustrated. “Kota, daddy has to go to work.” He said.
“No, Daddy you stay.” He said looking up with puppy dog eyes and suddenly you knew it was because of the nightmare. So, you got to his level and made him look you in the eyes.
“Dakota, look at me.” You said and he did so.
“Daddy isn’t going to leave you neither is TK. They’re extra careful to come home to us. They have to go and save people’s lives. Ok, Baby?” You asked and he nodded and Owen got down to his level too.
“That’s right Buddy. We’ll always come home to you and Mommy.” Owen said and Dakota nodded.
“Ok.” He said and you both kissed him and got back to packing. Soon the packing was done with the help of Dakota instead of him disrupting the packing. Soon it was time for Owen to leave and after a very tearful goodbye from Dakota, Owen was kissing you and heading out the door. Dakota was still crying.
“Hey, it's ok. How about we call Daddy before you go to bed and we go see him tomorrow and bring him and TK some really tasty treats, hmmm?” You asked, looking at him and brushing his bangs to the side and wiping his eyes.
“Ok, Mommy.” He said and you smiled and kissed his forehead.
“Now what do you want to take to him and TK?” You asked, still holding him and walking into the living room.
“Pie. No cheesecake. No cookies!” He said and you chuckled.
“How about all three or we make the pie or cheesecake for us and send the cookies to them?” You asked
“I like that idea, Mommy.” He said and you smiled and kissed his cheek.
“Very well then let’s get to it.” You said and set him down while you got all the ingredients. You and Dakota started to put ingredients together and soon after about 3 hours of baking you had everything baked and cooling down ready to be packaged to take to the firehouse tomorrow. “Alright, what do you want to eat?” You asked him already knowing the answer.
“Chicken nuggets and fries!” He said excitedly and you chuckled.
“Of course, how could I forget?” You asked not expecting an answer but got a giggle back. You turned to the stove and got the air fryer going “Hey, why don’t you go wash up and then go watch something?” You asked and he looked at you.
“Ok, Momma.” He said and scurried off while you started getting the fries and chicken nuggets out and waited for the oven to preheat before putting everything in and setting it for the time required. Soon you were hearing the TV turning on and some kids show queuing up. Soon the food was done and you were putting the food on plates and grabbing the ketchup and drinks and heading into the living room.
“We don’t tell daddy about this.” You said “It’s our secret.” You said and he nodded, taking it very seriously.
“Our secret.” He said and then started to eat snuggling up against you. Soon you both were done eating and now it was time for him to start winding down and head off to bed. It wouldn’t take that long considering his eyes were already drooping. Your phone started to vibrate in your pocket and you got it and saw it was a facetime from Owen and you smiled and answered it.
“Hey, Honey.” Owen said keeping his voice quiet and you could see he was in his office.
“Hey, Baby.” You replied
“Kota still up?” He asked
“Barley.” You said and showed him his son.
“Hi, Buddy.” Owen said and that stirred him a little.
“Hi, Daddy.” He said in a sleepy quiet voice.
“Did you have a good day with your mom?” He asked and you nodded.
“We made sweets.” He said and rubbed his eye.
“You did? What kind?” Owen asked and Dakota looked at you.
“Strawberry cheesecake, apple pie, and chocolate chip peanut butter cookies.” You said
“Oh, I’m so jealous.” Owen said “I wish I was there to eat it all.” He said and Dakota chuckled and then yawned. “You get some sleep. I’ll see you in a few days. I love you.” He said.
“Love you too, Daddy.” He said and then you turned the phone to face you.
“Goodnight, Babe. We’re planning to make a trip up there at some point. You ok with that?” You asked
“Always. Goodnight, Honey. I love you.” He said
“I love you too.” You said and then you both were hanging up the phone. You looked down and found Dakota sound asleep.
“Out like a light.” You said and got up and carefully picked him up and walked him to his room and tucked him in and bent down and kissed his head. “Goodnight, Baby. I love you.” You said and made sure his night light was on and walked out of his room cracking his door. You went back to the living room and cleaned up and turned on a show that you had been watching and watched it until your eyes were drooping and you were headed to bed.
The next morning you were waking up to your son crawling into the bed with you. “Mommy?” He asked.
“Yes, Kota?” You asked
“We go and see Daddy and TK today?” He asked and you smiled and pushed the hair out of his eyes.
“Of course, Baby. Let’s get dressed and brush our teeth then we can pack up the sweets and head that way.” You said and he nodded and he was scrambling to get off your bed and do what he was told. You chuckled and shook your head and did the same. Once you were changed into jeans and one of Owen’s hoodies you went and checked on him and found him dressed similarly, jeans and a hoodie. “You ready?” You asked and he nodded and the both of you went into the kitchen and packed the food up and put it in a bag. You headed for the door with your bag and grabbed your purse and keys. “Remember to hold my hand while we are crossing the street and in crowded places.” You said and he nodded.
“I remember, Momma.” He said and you smiled. He was so much like his dad. You arrived at the elevator and let him press the button and it instantly opened and you both stepped in and let him press the button that you told him too. You quickly arrived at the lobby and you held out his hand for his and he took it. You walked out of the building and to your car you put the food beside his car seat and then strapped him in. You got in and turned the car on and headed off to the station. The car ride was filled with laughter and signing. When you arrived the firetruck and ambulance were just rolling in.
“Hey, there’s daddy.” You said and he looked out the window excitedly. He was always amazed by the firetrucks and ambulances. You parked the car beside Owen’s truck and waited until everyone was pulled in and out before you got out. Once they were in the garage you got out and saw Judd walking over. “Hey, Judd.” You said and smiled and started for Dakota’s door.
“Hey, Y/N. Need any help?” He asked and you smiled at him.
“Actually yes. I have some sweets beside his car seat. Do you mind grabbing it?” You asked
“Yes ma’am.” He said and opened the door.
“Judd!” Dakota shrieked as you opened the door and started to unbuckle him.
“Hey, Bud! How are you?” He asked
“Good! We’re seeing daddy.” He said and you chuckled and smiled.
“You are? I know he will be happy to see you.” He said as you finished getting him out and picking him up as Judd grabbed the bag and walked around the car after shutting the door and you locked the car.
“Yea!” He shouted and the two of you started to walk in and he spotted TK. “TK!” He shouted and wiggled and you put him down and he ran to his big brother who easily caught him. You stared at the sight for a second smiling and then you and Judd walked over to the table and began to put the desserts on the table. A pair of arms slinked around your waist.
“Fancy seeing you here.” Owen said and you smiled.
“I told you that we would be coming to see you.” You said as you turned around in his arms and the others gathered around.
“Daddy!” Dakota shouted and that made him turn around and come face to face with TK holding Dakota and he reached for him and he took him.
“Hi, Buddy.” He said and he wrapped his little arms around his father’s neck.
“I heard desserts were brought.” Mateo said and you chuckled.
“That would be correct. We have strawberry cheesecake, apple pie, and chocolate chip peanut butter cookies.” You said
“Marry me.” Matteo said and everyone laughed.
“Sorry, she’s already taken.” Owen said and everyone laughed again.
“Dig in!” You said and everyone did as you stood back with Owen and your son as you watched your other children fulfill themselves on the desserts.
“How did I get so lucky to have you two in my life?” Owen said and you chuckled and kissed his cheek.
“Thank Grace for that.” You said and he chuckled.
“Hey, Dakota, do you want some?” Marjan asked, looking over at him.
“Can I, Daddy?” Dakota asked
“If it is ok with your mom.” He said
“It’s alright with me.” You said
“Yay!” Dakota shouted and then Owen was walking over to the table. You smiled looking at the scene. TK walked over and stood next to you holding two plates with a slice of apple pie and handed one to you.
“Thank you.” You said
“You’re welcome. So, what made you decide to come down?” He asked
“Well, a little someone wanted to see his daddy and big brother.” You said and TK smiled.
“He’s such a good kid.” He said and you smiled.
“He is and so are you.” You said bringing an arm to pull him in a side hug and he smiled and laid his head on your shoulder.
“Thanks, Mom.” He said and you kissed his head.
“You’re welcome.” You said and then he was getting called away leaving you to stare ahead smiling while you ate your pie.
You don’t know how you got so lucky but you were glad you did. You got a good husband, two good sons and a lot of extended family, who act like kids sometimes but you wouldn’t trade them for anything or ask for anyone better. You were happy with your family.

Prompt -  After the move from New York to Texas, the gang try to set Y/N up on several dates.
When your dad had first brought up Texas you hadn’t exactly been over the moon with the plan but there wasn’t much you could do to argue against it considering the circumstances surrounding why you were leaving. Besides there was no way TK would have moved out there without you and you would have hated home without him and your dad.
Now though it felt like this place was more like home than New York ever had been, something that you had thought would be impossible a few months ago. You’d had friends in New York of course but they were nothing compared to the friends you’d made in Texas, friends who you saw on a daily basis, friends who felt more like family even after only knowing them for such a short amount of time.
By all accounts not much should have changed for you really, you were working the same 9-1-1 operator job you’d had back in New York, your boss had been great helping with the transfer to the Texas call centre. You were on your way to getting your own apartment which you couldn’t wait for, much as you did enjoy living with your dad and TK.
And yet somehow everything felt different than it had in New York, it felt like you could be yourself here, let yourself enjoy your life properly instead of putting on a show for your friends.
Texas had no bad memories but New York…well New York was full of them. New York reminded you of days spent hesitating to answer your phone in fear of hearing that TK had been found in a ditch somewhere, that he was already dead or that he was too high to move and you had to find him in a drug den. New York was your mom and dad fighting whilst you and TK desperately tried to drown out the shouting.
Texas was better. Texas had a TK who had been clean since being here. It had your dad who seemed happier than you’d seen him in a long time. You hadn’t always been close with your dad, it took a while after the divorce for you and him to sort things out between each other, after countless apologies and talks the two of you were closer than ever.
Then there was TK. You had never not been close with TK, the two of you had been attached to each other's side for as long back as you could remember. Your twin brother, though if you asked TK he’d include the word older in there, he was older than you by a mere ten minutes and damn if he didn’t take the chance to tell anyone you met, always had your back even if it had been rough when he was using and you always tried to look out for him, tried to keep him alive.
You and your mom didn’t particularly get on well, your relationship with her was already strained but when you and your dad started getting along she hadn’t taken it well. You weren’t overly sad to leave her in New York but despite that you would always be grateful to her. She had been the one to do what you never could, she was the one that got TK into rehab and clean.
So when your dad called you one day you hadn’t been scared to answer the phone, TK had been clean for a while now and all the anxiety you had over answering calls was pretty much gone. Of course then he went and undid all that progress by telling you that TK had overdosed and he was in the hospital.
You had been shocked to say the least, devastated at the thought of TK using again. It seemed wrong, you’d seen him yesterday and he had seemed completely fine. It wasn’t until you got to the hospital and after wrapping you in a tight hug your dad told you that Alex had been cheating on TK. Your heart had ached, more so when you saw TK in the hospital bed and his eyes filled with tears as he hugged you.
It wasn’t long after that your dad told you both of the plan to move to Texas, TK was given no choice in the matter, he was leaving New York and he wasn’t going down that path again. Your dad had told you that if you wanted to stay in New York he’d understand, though the gutted look on his face told you he didn’t want that and the look TK had given him told you TK was ready to fight him on it.
You had about as much choice as TK had in the matter though, if your dad and TK were leaving New York then so were you. It’s not like there was much holding you there anyway.
You still remembered the conversation when TK had come over to your apartment, remembered how small he seemed as he curled up on your sofa and apologised that you had to uproot your entire life just because he was a failure. Your heart broke as you took a seat next to him and let him cuddle into you and you had spoken to him well into the early hours of the morning, promising you wanted to be with him and your dad no matter where that was. You knew he hadn’t been fully convinced, you knew it would take more than one conversation to make him believe it, but TK had nodded as you spoke and smiled at you, even if it was only a small one, and it wasn’t long after the two of you had fallen asleep together on the sofa.
From there it had been easier than you had thought to pack your things up and leave New York behind. Sure there was the sadness that came with leaving the place you had grown up in behind but you didn’t feel like you’d regret your decision.
And you hadn’t. Not weeks into being here, not months into being here. It felt easy to make Austin your home, it was easy to find a routine and settle in. It was worth it to see TK smile wider than he had done in New York, to watch him fall in love again with a guy you trusted to take care of him. It was easy to watch your dad make friends and hang out with them whenever their shift ended.
It was refreshing having a set of friends who actually seemed to care about you. You and Grace had made quick friends at the call centre on your first day when you had been introduced to her and placed on the desk opposite her. Conversation flowed easily between the two of you and it wasn’t long before you were meeting up outside of work, going for coffee or grabbing a bite when your shift ended, and being invited over to her house for dinner or drinks.
Life in Austin was good.
“So,” Grace grinned as the two of you walked into the break room after hours of sitting at your desks, you rolled your eyes knowing where the conversation was going. “How’s the crush going?”
That was another thing that was good in Texas. The dating scene in New York hadn’t been for you, sure you’d been on dates and met guys in clubs but actually, properly dating somebody just seemed impossible back there. Not that here was much different, you hadn’t actually gone on a date here yet but there was Ethan. Though you’d protest out loud to it being called a crush you could admit to yourself that it absolutely was one and a big one at that.
You’d met Ethan a few weeks into working at the call centre and after a small talk in the break room you had made your way back to your desk to see Grace already grinning at you. After she had finished teasing you she told you Ethan had lived in Austin all his life and had been working at the call centre for just over two years now. She had told you that from what she knew of him he seemed to be a fairly good guy, no one had said anything bad about him so far.
From there your attraction to the man had grown and while you were pretty sure he liked you too neither of you had made a move, much to not only yours but also TK and Grace’s disappointment.
“There is no crush.” You told her, a smile pulling at your lips at her groan and moved to get Grace’s and your lunch from the refrigerator.
“Y/N, you know I love you but I don’t know how much more of this I can take.” She told you, causing you to laugh as you sat opposite her. “I mean the two of you spend all day sneaking glances at each other, never mind the fact that when you talk he spends more time looking at your lips than anything else.”
“Okay, okay, so there’s an attraction,” you admitted, making her smile widen. “But, I don’t know Grace, I really like him, you know? I mean sure I dated around in New York but there was never anyone who I really liked.”
“Let it happen then, keep talking to him, keep sneaking glances and whatever happens is meant to be.” She told you and you took a deep breath whilst nodding at her.
It had been a long shift and when you walked through the door of your dad’s place, where you would be living for only a few more weeks whilst your apartment was getting ready, you could tell you weren’t going to rest any time soon.
“Hey kiddo,” Owen greeted as he wrapped his arm around you and pulled you into a side hug. “We’re getting ready to head to the bar, you in?”
“Yeah sure, just give me a minute to change.” You told him, watching his smile brighten as he let you go and it wasn’t long before the two of you walked into the bar together, TK already there and as you looked around you could see Carlos at the bar.
“Y/N!” TK grinned as you walked up to him and you couldn’t help but grin back, it was good seeing TK this happy, it looked good on him. “How was work?”
“Shut up!” You groaned whilst pushing him away from you causing him to let out a laugh as he moved back and leaned against you.
“Ok, ok but seriously when are you and Ethan getting together?” He asked and your dad gave you a questioning look. “I mean I see the way your face lights up, no one in New York made you smile like that.”
You couldn’t stop the soft smile pulling at your face as you leaned your head against TK’s shoulder. He was right, you could feel how much lighter you were and whilst it wasn’t all to do with Ethan you were really glad for the move to Texas. All three of you were much happier.
“Same goes for you, TK, if I didn’t know any better I’d say you were half way ready to call it love.” You murmured as Carlos headed towards your group and took great delight in watching TK’s cheeks heat up.
“What are you two talking about?” Carlos asked as he smiled at TK whilst handing drinks out and you saw a few extras, figuring the rest of the 126 would be joining tonight.
“Oh I was just seeing when Y/N was going to go on a date.” TK told him, grinning at you when you shook your head at him even as a smile threatened to pull at your lips.
You had sworn your dad, TK and Grace to secrecy over your little crush. You weren’t sure why, maybe it was because this was the first time you had really been into a guy and wanted to experience it privately before telling them, but all of them had kept their word even if TK found other ways to draw attention to your dating life.
“Have you met anyone here, Y/N?” Carlos asked with a smile, “I know a guy down at the station and I think the two of you could hit it off.”
You glared at TK as you watched his grin grow wider and Owen couldn’t stop a chuckle that he hid behind his glass as he looked between the two of you. Before you could say anything you were stopped by the rest of the 126 joining the table and silently thanked whoever was listening for the change in conversation as the rest of the night was able to continue without a single mention of your love life.
The next few weeks were fairly eventless, something you weren’t used to considering who your family and friends were but you welcomed the quietness. Not much had changed, the call centre took up most of your hours and after a long day you were able to crash in your new apartment which made Texas feel even more like home. Somehow even though you’d moved out of your dad’s house you still found yourself hanging out there after your shifts.
During the week not much happened, there were still the stolen glances across the room from you and Ethan, waiting to see when the other would get up so you could bump into each other in the break room and have lunch together whilst you got to know each other better.
Today you had started out stressed after your phone hadn’t charged meaning your alarm never went off making you nearly an hour late for work and every call from then on seemed to only reach you if it were a matter of life or death. By the time Grace gestured for you to take a break you were more than happy to, not even sparing a glance across the room today but instead just grabbing your coat and leaving the building, needing to be away whilst you steadied yourself.
“Hey,” Somebody called but you didn’t turn around, the streets of Austin were busy so you didn’t think much of it until you felt somebody touch your arm. “Hey, are you alright?”
It was Ethan. You didn’t know what to do with the fact that you felt some of the tension ease just from his touch, from his presence. You hadn’t hesitated to accept his offer of lunch at a coffee shop not too far from the call centre and barely felt the time passing until he checked his phone and his face dropped slightly as he announced the two of you should probably get back to work.
“Wait,” He said as he took your hand in his to pull you out of the way of people walking in the street. “Listen, I really like you, Y/N, and I’ve wanted to ask you out for months but you were new here and I thought it was best to let you settle in before I asked you. I’d really like to take you out if you’d let me.”
You hadn’t been able to stop the smile that spread across your face, your bad morning and the constant flood of calls momentarily forgotten about as you nodded your head and made plans for dinner the coming Friday before making your way back to the call centre, all the while his hand never left yours.
That night you ended up in the bar with the 126 and Grace, Grace who hadn’t stopped shooting you looks all day and seemed unable to stop grinning at you whenever she so much as glanced in your direction.
“Oh hey, Y/N,” Carlos said after everyone already had a few drinks in them, “you never did say if you wanted me to set you up with my friend down at the station.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Judd interrupted, causing you to smile as he raised his hands to look at you, “you’re goin’ on a date?”
You watched as Grace and TK, who had seemingly realised through Grace’s looks that there had been a development, grinned over at you causing you to roll your eyes.
“No, I’m not going on a date with Carlos’ friend.” You told them and Grace nudged your knee causing you to roll your eyes.
“I know a guy up in one of the other houses, real nice guy, why don’t you let me set you up with him?” Judd asked and you shook your head, smile still in place, but before you could say anything Marjan jumped in.
“Wait, my friend knows this guy and he’d be perfect for you, Y/N!” She told you and you couldn’t help but laugh as you finished the last of your drink and stood up to head to the bar, turning towards the group before you left.
“Thank you all but I can find my own dates.” The group's laughter followed you as you made your way to the bar and ordered another drink, smile widening as you felt somebody move next to you before nudging his shoulder with yours.
“You seem happy today.” TK prompted and you shook your head as you leaned into his side, pausing to let him order his drink before you spoke.
“He asked me out.” You told him and looked over at him to see him beaming at you and you couldn’t stop yourself mirroring the expression back. “It might not go anywhere but…I’m excited.”
“I’m really happy for you, Y/N.” TK told you softly squeezing your hand in his and you let out a soft chuckle as you nodded.
“I’m happy for you too, TK.” You murmured, shifting to look at the group but with the exception of your dad and Carlos no one else glanced in your direction. “I know the reason we moved down here wasn’t great but-”
“I’m still sorry about that.” TK interrupted, shifting his gaze from you to the glass he had been handed. “Looking back I know I should have spoken to you or dad but in the moment, everything just seemed so…but I never thanked you.”
“TK I’ve told you a hundred times you don’t have to apologise.” You sighed and watched as he lifted his gaze to you, eyes wide and watery. “And what didn’t you thank me for?”
“For moving here with us.” He said as he tried to blink away the tears and paused to take a sip of his water. “I mean dad’s been amazing with all this, you know, but I couldn’t have done it without you here. I know you uprooted your whole life and I never thanked you for that.”
“TK, you don’t have to thank me either. There was never any doubt that I’d come to Texas with you and dad, I liked New York, hell I thought I loved it there but moving here was the best decision of my life. I know we didn’t move down here under the greatest conditions but you’re good now and I can’t picture being anywhere else.” You told him sincerely, glancing back at the table and smiling softly at the family you had made gathered together.
“I really love you Y/N, I’m glad you’re happy here.” TK said as he pulled you into a hug and you heard him sniff quietly but didn’t say anything as you wrapped your arms around him.
“I love you too, TK.” You murmured into his shoulders and the two of you took a second more before pulling away and heading back to the group.
Months passed since that night at the bar and it was now coming up to being a year since you had moved to Texas. It felt like a whole different lifetime since you were in New York, not realising how unhappy you were as you went about your life until you came to Austin.
Now everything had changed, you and Ethan had been dating for three months and you had yet to tell the rest of your friends. You had told your dad when it was just the two of you at his house, TK out with Carlos for the night, as you both curled on the sofa and played movie after movie. During one of the breaks where you had headed into the kitchen for a food break you had told your dad that Ethan had officially asked you out and that you had said yes. Owen had just beamed at you and pulled you close, murmuring how proud he was of you and how glad he was that you were happy.
You hadn’t needed to tell Grace, that woman knew from the second you sat at your desk the day after Ethan had asked you to be his girlfriend that something had happened. You hadn't even been able to keep a straight face through her teasing, grinning back at her as the two of you leaned across your desks and spoke about the date in hushed voices, missing the fond looks directed at you from across the room.
TK seemed to have whatever superpower Grace had because when he had come to your apartment with takeout and had given you a questioning look before his face broke out into a grin you couldn’t do anything but groan as he came to the conclusion you and Ethan were official. The two of you spent the night talking about your lives since moving to Texas and gushing over your boyfriends.
It was a few nights later you found yourself in the bar, everyone from the 126, as well as Carlos and Grace sat around a table and as always seemed to be the case after a few rounds the conversation shifted to your romantic life.
“I’m just sayin’, she’s been here what nearly a year? I know a guy who I think is good enough to date her.” Judd said and you couldn’t help but laugh as Carlos shook his head and gestured to you.
“I know Y/N and her and Logan would be great together.” Carlos insisted, causing Owen to chuckle as you buried your head against TK’s shoulder, feeling his laugh as he watched the conversation.
“What’s wrong with my guy?” Judd asked but before Carlos could respond another voice cut them off.
“Hey, sorry to interrupt.” He said and your head snapped up from TK’s shoulder to grin at Ethan as you stood up and made your way round to his side, wrapping your arm around his waist, leaning into him as he wrapped his around your shoulder.
“Neither of your guys are good.” You told Carlos and Judd, watching as they frowned whilst looking between you and Ethan. “Everyone, this is Ethan, my boyfriend.”
The look on Carlos and Judd’s face was priceless to say the least, both of them doing a good job looking betrayed as you introduced everyone to Ethan and took your seat next to each other.
“You’ve had a boyfriend this whole time?” Judd asked before he looked at Grace who smiled sweetly at him. “And you’ve known, y’all let me sit here trying to set her up how many times and didn’t think to mention anything?”
“You knew too, right?” You heard Carlos asked TK and laughed when TK just sipped his drink. “She did tell us she could get her own dates.” Carlos shrugged towards Judd who let out a put upon sigh.
“Yeah I suppose she did.” Judd murmured, watching as Ethan excused himself to go and get a drink before he turned his attention to you. “You happy, kid?”
“Very.” You told him without hesitating and if that didn’t tell him everything he needed to know then the smile that was on your face did, he could see you were serious with Ethan, could tell that you were a good pair.
“That boy better look after you, you know?” Judd warned, causing TK and you to laugh whilst Grace nudged his chest.
“He will but if he doesn't, well then I’m sure there will be a line for you to join.” You grinned as you looked over to your dad who just nodded, sat back in his seat looking at ease, not worried in the slightest. He’d met the boyfriend, as had TK, and both of them saw the way you look at each other.
“Damn right.” Judd agreed just as Ethan sat back down and the topic switched to getting to know the man and your friends asking how you got together.
As Ethan spoke you leaned back in your seat and smiled, maybe Texas had never been part of the plan, you had never once imagined yourself settling down here, making a life here, but now you couldn’t picture being any place else. TK was happier than ever, you were happier than ever and so was your dad. There really wasn’t much more you could ask for.

Carer!Owen Strand x Little!Reader
• Your job just got too much sometimes- and after a particularly tough call, you can’t help but slip into your tiny space. Luckily, Owen is there to help.
cw: age regression.
( 1273 Words )
authors note -> I headcanoned he has a couch in his office for connivence purposes.. yeah.
Tumblr media
Everyone else was asleep in their bunks. The room was silent, except for the soft breaths of your team. The call had been so exhausting and just so draining that all everyone could think about was going straight to bed. Except you.
Thoughts raced through your mind, as they usually did when a call went south. Did you do too much? Too little? Fears and anxieties crept up on you slowly, and your stomach twisted. A familiar, fuzzy feeling floated over your head, and you held your pillow just a little bit tighter.
You couldn’t be small- not here. It wasn’t safe. No one knew. Not your friends, not your family, and certainly not the team. But no matter how hard you tried to shake the tiny headspace that was settling in, you couldn’t.
Footsteps echoed down the hallway and you jumped, your heart pounding in your chest. For a moment, you wondered who would possibly be awake at this hour until it hit you- Owen.
Of course he wasn’t asleep. He rarely slept in the bunks when the team did, usually opting to stay in his office.
You held your breath as he walked in, making his way to his bunk. At first, he seemed so distracted in finding whatever he was intent on finding that you didn’t think he would even take note of your crouched figure over in the darkness.
Until, you heard his voice whisper your name and his footsteps make his way over to your bunk. “Hey, is everything alright?” He asked slowly, watching as you held your pillow tight to your chest.
“‘M scared.” You murmured, hiding your face in the pillow. Owen hesitated, unsure of what to do. “And I- I feel tiny.” You added on in a quieter voice, looking up at him with hesitant and wide eyes.
“Tiny?” Owen repeated, his brows furrowing as he seemingly tried to figure out what that meant. He wasn’t entirely sure what exactly you were referring to but… he knew he felt a sense of protectiveness for you. Care, almost. But he couldn’t put his finger on it.
Hesitating, you repeated yourself, “Small. ‘M small.” You muttered, shifting in your place on the bed.
Owen opened his mouth, and then closed it. You seemed quite upset and he didn’t want to push it by asking any overwhelming questions. So instead, he just gave a short nod to show he was listening. “Right… okay, kiddo.”
Warmth fluttered in your chest as he gave you a small smile, though you knew he was a bit nervous.
“Well, you know bud, I have some paper in my office. I think maybe a box of crayons too. I know you’re feeling some hard feelings right now. But sometimes company and a fun activity can help the big feelings maybe seem… less big.” Owen said carefully.
It did sound like a good proposal- and you wanted to find a comfort with him. But part of you still felt scared that you were possibly bothering him. “I don’t wanna be a burden.” You whispered, staring down at the bedsheets.
He paused, before shaking his head. “No, no. That’s not true, tiny. I understand you must be… scared, right now. Feeling small but dealing with some big emotions.” Hesitating, he continued,
“But maybe it could be nice to have some company for a while, you think?” Owen offered carefully, studying your reactions.
Despite your anxiety, you found yourself nodding in agreement and standing up with him. Owen paused before he decided to give your shoulder a short pat. You couldn’t help but melt at the soft gesture- even though it was clear he was still trying to navigate it, the kindness of his actions was enough to make you overwhelmed.
You followed him down the hallways until you reached his office, moving to perch on a couch. He fumbled through his drawers, murmuring to himself until he reached out a couple blank sheets of copy paper and a box of crayons.
“I know it’s not a coloring book, or anything. Hopefully it’s still alright with you, tiny?” Owen asked carefully, handing you the box of crayons and the paper.
Observing the variety of crayon options you nodded, adjusting the paper on a coffee table as you started to color, letting the tension slowly ease from your muscles. You could feel your mind to start grow more fuzzy, but in a more comforting way than before.
Owen hesitated as he looked up from his paperwork momentarily, clearing his throat before he spoke up, “So, if you don’t mind me asking peanut, what was making you feel upset?”
Slowly, you moved your eyes to look up at him. You chew on your bottom lip nervously as you try to formulate a reply, the crayon pausing its movements. “I, uhm.. the call. Scared me.” You admitted lowly.
He gave a sympathetic look and, hesitantly, moved to sit next to you on the couch. He patted your shoulder carefully, “You know, it’s okay to get scared sometimes kiddo. I get scared sometimes too. It’s part of the job.”
You nodded at his words, continuing your coloring silently. You couldn’t help but feel a soothing sense of comfort at his words, and your heart fluttered when he gave you hair a soft ruffle.
“What are you drawing there, buddy? Looks pretty neat.” Owen complimented, giving you a small smile as he watched you draw.
“Fire truck.” You babbled, picking out a red crayon to color in the outline of a truck, showing Owen all the different colors you were using for your drawing. He hummed enthusiastically as you drew, nodding along with you.
He picked up an orange crayon, handing to you as you drew. “Wow, I didn’t know you were such a talented little pal. I guess I have the best tiny artist in town, don’t I peanut?” Owen teased, giving your hair a ruffle.
With a giggle, you looked up at him. “You’re so silly.” You mumbled, hiding your face.
Owen made a face of feign contemplation, tapping his chin. “I think maybe I have the silliest kiddo around too!” He finally exclaimed with a gasp, looking down at you as you giggled even more.
“You’re being too silly!” You laughed, hiding your face as you curled in on yourself on the couch and watched him tease you playfully.
Owen helped color drawing after drawing, promising to keep each one at his desk (and maybe even hang one on his bulletin board!) The night slowly passed into the daylight and you could slowly feel your eyes start to droop.
“Hey peanut, why don’t you get some sleep?” He finally offered softly as you struggled to move the crayon the paper, too occupied with yawning and rubbing your eyes.
You grumbled, trying to shake your head. “But what if we get a call?” You asked quietly, looking up at him.
Owen gave you a small smile, giving your head a comforting pat. “It’s alright, tiny. We’ll be okay. I think you should get some rest. You can sleep on the couch, if you want? I have a blanket and a pillow, kiddo.”
The offer was convincing enough and without too much coaxing needed, you found yourself curled up on his office couch with the blanket covering your body.
“Alright tiny, get some rest.” Owen mumbled, fixing the blanket over your torso. “I’ll check on you a bit later, mkay?”
You nodded and curled inward, your eyes growing heavy. Owen turned the overheard light off, and you drifted off to the sound of his soft footsteps pattering out of the office.

The competition had been fierce and each ounce of caffeine in your veins from your strenuous, early morning drive from Arkansas to Oklahoma had done nothing to quell your nerves.
You could feel the sweat emulate from your palms as you watched each rider and horse pair complete their routine with near flawlessness, confidence, professionalism, and near perfect scores on maneuvers.
Tyler would need to give it his all to bring home the NRHA world championship title for this season.
You watched with bated breath as the pair before Tyler’s exited through the in-gate, applause and cheers ricocheting off the concrete and aluminum walls of the stadium. The announcer’s voice crackling and echoing through the speakers as the pairs score was displayed on the JumboTron that hung ominously above the center of the arena, threatening to crush Tyler's lifelong dream if a perfect score wasn't achieved. You fiddled with the competition program in your hand, waiting for the announcer to give the go ahead for Tyler Owens and Coppertone Boy, or as he was affectionately called at home, Copper, to enter the arena.
“Come on, honeybee, I think you're more nervous than I am.” The fingers of your hand stop gingerly massaging into the muscle between Copper’s alert ears, eyes meeting Tyler’s unnervingly calm ones. You sighed, bringing your hand down to softly stroke the stallion’s velvet muzzle, looking back out at the arena that would be vacant for only a few moments more. “It's just the anticipation is all.”
He swallowed, dipping his heels down further against his stirrups, his weight settling on the back of the palomino American Quarter Horse. His thumb running along the smooth leather reins in his moderately calloused hands, his posture straightening. Tipping his hat on his head, eyes drifting from your almost perfect facade of calm collection to the no longer virginal arena footing.
He gingerly scratched at Copper’s strong, gilded withers and neck concealed by the silken, alabaster strands of his freshly detangled mane, easing any anxiety the 10 year old stallion may have had.
“Copper will take care of me out there, and I'm coming back, Sweets” his lip quirked into a gentle smirk, letting your anxiety ease a bit.
Copper gently nudged you with his head, trying to get one last scratch in before entering. Or maybe to try to reassure you. “I know, I-,” you took a breath, licking your lips,” just really want this for you, and we're so close. I can taste it.”
His eyes glazed a bit, a special kind of warmth spreading in his chest. You had helped him hitch the trailer to pick up Copper from the auction a few townships over back in his early twenties. You were the one who was with him every step of the way, through every high and frustrating low of training him and getting him ready for every competition. You were the one to stay up all night with him when Copper coliced during a muggy spring night a few years back. You were the one who encouraged him to try reining after his bull riding rodeo career came to a halt. You were the one to hide out with him on his family's ranch in Arkansas during the summer thunderstorms in the hayloft as kids and lovesick teenagers. And you were the first person he got to kiss out in the back field after the haying season was done, laying under the cover of Cassiopeia and The Big Dipper with homemade strawberry moonshine. It made the wedding band on a chain around his neck all the more meaningful. The microphone crackled as the announcer cleared his throat, announcing for Tyler to enter the arena.
“Come on, baby, I need my good luck kiss before I go out there.” His urgent, but sweet, tone made you chuckle.  Stepping on your tippy toes, you met his lips that only seemed to get softer the more you kissed him. As your lips left his, you gave the stallion that gleamed like a new penny under the stadium lights a last, quick rub at his withers and a whispered “take care of him for me.” The stallion nudged his pink and gray muzzle into your side, letting out a puff of breath, seeming to listen and affirm your wish.
You turned back to the man you had loved since you were a sophmore in highschool. “You'll get something a lot more when you come back.” You said softly with a flirtatious tone, trying to lighten the nerves that seemed to electrify your fingertips. Your eyes told an unspoken “whether you win, or lose.” His eyebrows rise before a smirk settles on his lips. “Looking forward to it darlin,” he winks before turning his attention to the packed arena. He gives the stallion a gentle squeeze of his sides with his calves to get him into a working walk, head low, and relaxed as his metal shoe-clad hooves rhythmically ricocheted off the pavement leading up to the arena as applause and whistles from the crowd marked his entrance like a gladiator entering the Colosseum. You watched him leave your side with bated breath.
You always envied how he was able to feed off of the crowd instead of cowering under it, even when he was getting tossed around as a professional bull rider in the local rodeo circuit. It was a trait that Tyler and Copper had in common that made them a perfect pair.
You watched each calculated movement he whispered to Copper through his hands, legs, and seat. Each movement done in perfect harmony, from flying lead changes to each heart racing spin and rollback. You practically knew the routine like the back of your hand, softly mouthing the required movements right as Tyler and Copper conducted them with  complete poise and confidence. You couldn’t help but let your eyes flit back and forth from the golden stallion enrapturing the attention of the crowd and the judges scribbling down notes that had the potential to cut like a blade. Tyler had a calm, at-ease aura around him; his hands still with just the right amount of contact on the reins, loose hips and strong legs that wrapped around the barrel of the strong, powerful, and graceful horse below him. Copper’s ears kept at ease, each one flitting back to listen to each whispered task Tyler gave him. His mane and tail swayed beautifully with the rest of his muscular, golden dappled frame; steel horseshoes gleaming under the large overhead lights. You felt your anxiety rise as Tyler only had one maneuver left to accomplish- a sliding stop from a full gallop, the most exhilarating maneuver in reining.
Your breath felt like lead in your lungs as you watched each stride Copper took to complete his routine. With an impressive stall of his hind quarters, Copper planted himself against the arena footing to come to a full stop, his hind legs slightly folding under him as Tyler kept his body steady. The arena went quiet for only a second as Copper found his footing, remaining in a halt. As soon as the judges gave Tyler the go ahead to leave the arena, you jumped up in glee, applauding and whistling, just like the entirety of the arena   as Tyler gave Copper a loose rein, giving his strong neck deligent pats of encouragement and rubbing his withers as he made his way out of the arena at a working walk pace. After all, he had earned it.
But would it be enough to win?
You couldn’t contain the smile on your face as Tyler met your gaze with a heart stopping grin, his handsome dimples on display, timothy grass green eyes shining for you as his chest rose and fell from his exertion, and the sweat evident under his Stetson at his hairline.
As soon as he cleared the in-gate, he was out of the saddle and embracing you, lips on yours as you giggled against him as he picked you up and spun you around, your fingers splayed over his stubbly cheeks. Copper stood patiently as his reins hit the cement floor. Your fingers resting at the back of his neck, feeling his sweat, natural scent, and the smell of leather and horses caress your senses.
“I’m so proud of you, baby,” you said, voice thick with tears bubbling beneath your eyes as your hands encased his gently stubbled cheeks, his grin matching your own, voice thick, “Honey, whatever happens, I’m-,” his eyes becoming glassy, “I’m just so glad I’ve been able to do this with you. I love you so goddamn much.” He brought your lips back to his in a sweet, love filled kiss that made your stomach flutter.  The crackle of the microphone breaks you both away from your kiss, his embrace still on your hips. Tyler cranes his neck to look up at the JumboTron.
Your eyes widening, putting your hands over your mouth and looking up at Tyler’s shock-parted lips as the arena broke into cheers. Tyler swings you around by your hips before bringing you to his lips again.
A perfect score.
As soon as Tyler rode out on Copper with you by his side during the award ceremony, and your picture was taken with his NRHA Championship trophy and Copper got his red, blue, and yellow tri-colored ribbon, you both were ready to load up Copper and drive all the way back to Arkansas.
Photographers, interviewers, and cameras followed your little group out of the arena. Tyler and Copper both walked with pride in a way that showed a healthy balance of confidence and natural charisma. Copper not once flinched as cameras flashed as Tyler had him periodically stop for interviewers to ask questions, reins loose in his hand. Copper seemed to almost pose for the camera with his ears forward and moving with momentum whenever the cameras flashed; aware that he had done a good job and was being appreciated. You, on the other hand, preferred to be on the other side of Copper’s strong withers, away from the cameras, gently running your hand along his glistening coat; it took you and Tyler countless hours for it to gleam like gold.
“Who would you say is someone who has always supported you on the road to winning this NRHA world championship title?”
You felt like you were hiding behind the near two ton animal, peeking over his strong neck to watch Tyler with his tipped up Stetson and near alabaster dress shirt. He turned from the interviewer to you with an easy grin on his face, gently reaching behind him to take your hand from underneath Copper’s neck, bringing you around his large head and into Tyler’s chest, placing a kiss to your forehead. You couldn’t help the blush that spread across your cheeks like wildfire as you gave the interviewer a shy toothy smile.
“I’ve had the undeserved pleasure to have by my side, during this entire journey, the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known; my wife.” You felt your throat tighten and tears start to bubble up in your eyes at his gesture, all while trying to subtly hide away into his shoulder as the interviewer seemed to soak up the sweet moment between the new NRHA world champion and his wife.
“You’ll have to forgive her, my honeybee’s a bit shy.” he chuckled, the interviewer following suit before asking her final questions with you by his side.
As the last of the interviewers left to talk to the other competitors, you and Tyler led Copper back to the trailer to get him bedded in the trailer for the long way home.
You tried to keep your thoughts pure as you walked through the trucks and trailers with Copper in tow, passing competitors that turned into friends; like Bradley Bradshaw and his oil black quarter horse gelding, Turn and Burn, and Natasha Trace and her sorrel chestnut mare, Rising Phoenix. Both of which had gotten in the top 5 tonight out of 38.
But Tyler looked too good right now. Too good. And his display of affection in front of the interviewer made your insides warm and jumble inside you.
His hair peeking out from under his stetson, the color subdued from sweat; his taut jeans around his slim waist; his obnoxiously large belt buckle that glimmered in the overhead lot lights; his flushed, sweat soaked skin; bright, fern green eyes, and the defined line of his jaw to his handsome dimples.
It didn’t help that you got distracted watching him tend to Copper as you put the tack in the trailer, biting your lip as you watched the thin material of his shirt cling to his back muscles.
“Honeybee, you alright over there?” You almost needed to shake your head out of your trance, before trying to quickly put the tack away in the closet of the trailer, trying to focus on the task at hand and not on your lewd thoughts.
As soon as you turned around from putting the tack away, Tyler was at the entryway. Both hands on the edge of the storage space prevented any chance of escape, sluttily leaning his weight on the frame like the scantily-clad men in those romance books Tyler always teased you for reading. He didn’t have anything to complain about though; he reaped the reward of it everytime.
Your eyes met his mischief filled ones. “You got something on your mind, Honey?”
You diverted your gaze from his eyes to his Stetson. He noticed, promptly removing it and placing it over his denim-clad pelvis with a teasing smile as he saw your eyes follow his movement. He always loved the dust of pink on your cheeks when he flirted with you. He took a step into the trailer, feeling his intoxicating scent invade your senses.
You took a step forward, letting your eyes obscenely run over from his sweat-slicked back hair, to the slight crook in his nose, to his plush lips. Leaning into his ear, “I’ll tell you once Copper is in the trailer. Fed and watered.” Tyler almost shivered at the barely decent tone you used. You both were in a public space for Christ’s sake.
“Yes, ma’am.”
You bit your lip, a chuckle vibrating in your chest at his pace towards the patient stallion grazing from his well deserved hay bag as soon the words left your lips.
After ensuring all of your belongings were packed away, you went to check on Tyler and Copper. As you turned the corner, Tyler was just finishing up putting the latches on the trailer. “How’s our big guy doing?” You asked, leaning against the side of the trailer.
He turned to you, “fed, watered, and out like a light. Copper’s going to sleep well on the ride home. Gave him a few extra flakes of hay to keep him occupied.”
“Now,” he took a step closer to you, a smirk painted across his lips, “I wanna hear what was on your mind earlier, pretty girl,” he purred.
You took a step closer to him with a flirtatious smile blooming on your face, reaching out for his belt loops on his jeans.
—
“Honeybee,” he whimpered, heading hitting back against his truck as you sunk to the dusty ground beneath your knees, scrambling to unbuckle his obnoxiously large belt buckle, and unzipping his denim jeans with a harsh tug. He hissed, “careful, sweets, don't want to damage the goods,” you chuckled before bringing his jeans down to his knees. His breath freezing in his throat as you ran your palms against his defined Adonis belt and abs, scratching at the hair of his happy trail as your smooth palm found its home - wrapped around his thick, pulsing cock in his briefs. Tyler's eyes clenched shut, a hiss leaking from his kiss-swollen lips as you began to pump him in a corkscrew motion. God, he looked so good like this. Letting you take care of him and make him crumble beneath the palms of your hands.
“Jesus, sweetheart.” His hips stuttered as you gave his oh so sensitive, engorged tip delicate kitten licks before taking him into your mouth, sucking softly. Eyes drifting shut as you savored the subtle musk of your husband and the salty taste of the precum leaking out of his cock. You hummed around his dick as his fingers weaved into your hair, keeping his cock encased in your hot mouth.
Jesus, the glorious sight in your mind- Tyler’s head and Stetson tipped back, lips agape, cheeks flushed pink with sweat and arousal, dress shirt unbuttoned, strong abdominal and pectoral muscles exposed from years of ranch work, hips jutting out as his jeans and briefs tethered his ankles as you worked his fat cock.
A sound akin to a mewl left his lips as you bobbed your head along his length, working his cock with your saliva soaked hand.
“Oh fu- baby, that feels so fucking good.” His graveled voice made you clench your thighs, his eyes opening to see you pumping his cock as you playfully sucked on his balls. Saliva dribbling down your lips to the dirt below, leaving your mark on the event grounds. Your sinful acts hidden in the shadows of your truck and trailer.
This was definitely the best way to celebrate a world championship win, he thought through a hazy conscience as he failed to find a steady tempo of breath.
You could feel the tightness of his balls and the steady throbbing of the vein running underneath his thick cock. His fingers tightening in your hair.
“God-Fuck-” His trail of words were cut off with a deep groan he tried to muffle the best he could.
His hand kept your mouth around his cock as he shot his load down your welcoming throat, letting you swallow every hot drop he had to give. His body slumping against the truck, catching his breath as you rose up off the dirt, tenderly tucking him back into his jeans, bringing your lips to his.
After a few moments, Tyler deepened the kiss,  reaching for the backseat door. He broke away from your lips, littering your neck and collarbones with messy, open-mouthed kisses. Your lips would get swollen soon from how hard you were biting them to conceal your mewls. His hands palmed and toyed with your cotton-clad breasts, feeling his calloused fingers slide under your t-shirt to fondle at your steadily peaking nipples. “Baby, we might need to do this half-clothed,” you murmured against his lips. He let his lips leave yours, realizing where you guys were: on the outskirts of the arena grounds.
“Well, Honeybee, we’ll just have to do it with your pants down then, pretty girl.” He smiled sinfully. His gravelly tone always made you clench your thighs in need, and feel excited and jittery inside; like a new-born foal learning to run.
He stripped off his dress shirt, leaving him with chest and abs exposed in the shadow of the truck. Before you had the chance to admire his half-bare body, he was unzipping your jeans and pulling them down along with your panties in one fell swoop. He guided your legs out of them before placing his beloved Stetson on your head. The sight of you bare below the waist and his white stetson had his cock twitching again.
He hopped on the seat, laying down on the leather upholstery. “Come on, honey girl, get up here. I want a taste.” He purred, eyes raking from your face down to the little honey stash between your thighs with a Cheshire-like grin.
You chuckled, excitement thrumming through your belly like a current of electricity. His hands guided your hips over his twitching dick, over his thick pecs, and right above where he wanted you. Your breath catches in your throat as Tyler brings your hips down with his broad hands, clutching at your soft waist as he starts lapping at your drenched core.
“Fuck, Ty-” you clutched at his tufts of hair that peaked through your fingers, like the daisies in the hayfields. He toyed with your clit, his stubble scratching deliciously against your sensitive inner thighs. He gently sucked on your clit to pull each sweet moan and gasp from your lips. His thick fingers forming troughs along the soft flesh of your hips and thighs, keeping your weeping pussy pinned above his eager mouth.
“Please.”
He grunted as your hips rocked against him, his grip tightening on your hips, guiding your movements. Your head tipping back as your thoughts failed to construe into something tangible besides broken moans and words. It’s amazing how Tyler’s Stetson has stayed on during your impromptu ride.
God, the sight he had from below your thighs; black t-shirt riding up to just below your bra, your hands clutching at his hair and your covered breasts, beautiful parted lips, reddened cheeks and his staple atop your head.
You looked divine like this. Hell, you were divine for wanting to marry him in the first place.
He gave your clit a delicate kiss, just enough to make you whine a little. Littering kisses along your inner thighs, feeling the tender flesh quake above him as you protested him giving attention to places that weren’t where you needed him to be. He licked his lips savoring the sweet taste of you on his tongue, and gently teased two fingers at your entrance making you gasp and whimper at the intrusion.
“Baby, you look so good from down here, so fucking good.”
His graveled voice was marked by a unique breathlessness that times like these brought him. Your hands pushed your t-shirt up and your bra down to toy with your exposed breasts and perky nipples as the Oklahoma evening air pebbled them. Your hazy gaze looking downward at your lover’s tousled hair, flushed cheeks and lust-blown pupils with a characteristic devilish grin on his arousal soaked lips.
“Fuck, baby”
He smiled as he guided his fingers into your welcoming heat, your pretty moans music to his ears.
His fingers finding the perfect tempo against that little spot inside you that made your toes curl against the upholstery of the car. His free hand holding an iron grip on your hip, keeping you steady.
If you hadn’t felt like you were going to cum before, you were now.
Tyler could feel your velvet walls constrict around his welcomed digits. A soft yelp leaves your lips as he finds your clit again; toying and sucking at the delicate bundle of nerves at the apex of your thighs. He sucked harder the more you pulled at his hair.
“Tyler, I’m so close, please make me cum baby-please.”
The wanton, sultry tone your voice got in this state made him ache in his jeans and move his fingers that much more eagerly.
You felt the familiar build up of pleasure in your tummy and the sparks of pleasure traveling from your toes. Tyler watched as you fell apart over him with a wracked moan of his name as his fingers continued to rub that special spot inside you, and as he continued to toy with your poor, abused clit.
He slowed his movements to a halt, letting his fingers leave to hold your hips steady, bringing his lips to languidly kiss and lathe at your cum soaked folds, drawing out any last sparks of pleasure and the sweet, little noises you always made for him.
Your thighs shook with the aftermath of your orgasm, your body still ringing with small sparks of pleasure and sensitivity, your whimpers pouring out.
He lathed his last set of kisses to your pussy before sliding your hips down to rest over his throbbing dick, hidden behind a layer of denim.
Tyler brought both hands to encase your face, bringing your lips to his in a kiss full of teeth and tongue, your mouth going to the prominent vein on the side of his neck, lathing and marking the flesh as your own, spurred on by the deep groans of the man underneath you. He growled, feeling you bite into the skin there. It would surprise him if you didn’t draw blood.
“I want to ride your thick cock, baby.” you simpered.
“Fuck, you make me so hard, Honeybee.” He growled, feeling you unzip his jeans, pulling out his aching cock and lining him up at your entrance. Gently teasing the tip, running it along your folds, letting it soak up your arousal. You smirked as you listened to the borderline moans that reverberated from his chest. He felt his eyes almost roll back at the feeling of your walls welcoming him in; back home. You watched with lust hazed eyes as his face was consumed with tension; his eyes clenched shut, brow lines rippling the tanned skin of his forehead, his tense jaw and kiss swollen lips.
He guided your hips, savoring the feeling of you. His hips bucking up into your awaiting pussy as he got more and more invigorated for his release.
“Fuck, Honey-fuck!” He growled as he felt your walls squeeze him for all he was worth.
“God, you’re always so good for me, such a good fucking girl” he said as he held your hips tighter, fucking up into you at a faster pace than before. Gasps and moans falling from your lips as he pummeled that sweet, heavenly spot inside you that had you seeing a kaleidoscope of sensations behind your eyes, and your fingers clawing at his pecs and shoulders for stability. Tyler could feel the coil in his stomach tightening as his release was barreling towards him like a train going into a station. His abs tightening, pace unrelenting as he chased his high. He could feel you were close with this new set pace, your lips parted as sweet sounds echoed from your lips. He held on until he felt your walls snap close on him like a vice, your thighs shaking as your high washed over him with a broken moan and tremor. His hips rose, fucking into you one last time before releasing his hot load into your pretty pussy with a deep growl.
He gingerly pulled up your panties, keeping his cum trapped between your folds. He snapped the button of your jeans closed as he languidly made out with you. He changed into a t-shirt that hugged his biceps just right, keeping his jeans on. You both silently changed into your new set of clothes with content, lovesick smiles on your face. You gave him a kiss as he passed you his sweatshirt to wear during the ride home.
You both settled into the front seat of the truck. By now, most people had gone home, the bright stars above watching over you. He placed his Stetson on the backseat, smirking as he watched you reach out for the cowboy hat, placing it on your head with a cute smile that made him smirk and shake his head.
He leaned over, placing a soft kiss to your lips.
“I love you, Honeybee.”
“I love you too, Ty.”
You give his thick thigh a squeeze, smiling as he groans into the kiss. He pulled black from the kiss, putting the truck into drive. As soon as his hand is free, he takes your hand in his, making your cheeks warm at the gesture, kissing the back of it as he pulls out of the dirt road onto the interstate towards Arkansas.

Doomsayers - Owen Joyner x Artist!Reader
Tumblr media
JATP masterlist
Warnings: Swearing, existential dread, pretty mild content overall.
Words: 1110
Summary: Owen had to practically harass you to get you to relax on your mutual day off, but the quality time together takes an unexpected turn when you exhibit a small sense of self-doubt.
A/N: I’m sorry I’ve sort of disappeared but I’ll offer an explanation in the footnote. Other than that, requests are still being filled right now. Let this self-indulgent piece hold you over in the meantime. I wanted to get something out and due to how the process went with finishing this one, I think I’m slowly easing back into a writing spell after such a long period of writer’s block.
“Y/N!” Owen yells, dragging out my name despite being a mere ten feet away.
“Oweennnnn,” I whine back in an insincerely mocking tone. My almost too loving boyfriend is lying in the unmade sheets of my bed, groaning at me from a supine position. I’m switching in between sitting and standing as I work on a new painting for a client. It’s a magical realist take on an Italian cobblestone street view, and I’ve spent so much time on the painting this week that I’m way ahead of schedule. Owen knows this and is consequently moaning at me from his spot where he’s nestled on my bed.
A lazy Saturday is exactly what we both needed, but when I decided I had a little time the morning before he showed up, I’d gotten so invested in my workflow that I didn’t even break to answer the door. This isn’t the first time Owen’s had to let himself into my place with the key I gave him for our one-year anniversary. Essentially: when I have a warm drink in one hand and a paintbrush in the other, there’s no telling when I’ll break next.
“We’re supposed to be relaxing. Why are you working on our lazy Saturday?”
“I’m not working.” I brush a loose strand of hair out of my face, careful not to dab a glob of yellow oil paint across my cheek.
“You are painting a commission. It’s literally work, babe.”
“Hush. I’ve got a good workflow going.”
“If you don’t put that brush down in the next 10 seconds… I’ll… I’ll break up with you!”
“No, you won’t.”
“No, I won’t,” he sighs defeatedly. “But I will start crying.”
“Owen-” I stand up straight after being hunched over the canvas for so long.
“Please?” When I look at my boyfriend he’s giving me the most pitiful pout in the world and I can’t help but smile. His pout morphs into a full grin when I set my paintbrush into a plastic cup of water and oil solution.
“I hate you, you know that?”
“I love you!”
“You’re lucky you’re cute.”
“You think I’m cute?”
“Hush.”
I crawl up the length of my bed to join Owen who awaits my arrival with open arms. He’s resting on all my different pillows which are strewn about the bed via his nesting tendency. Once I’m laying down, Owen wraps both arms around my waist and rests his face on the nape of my neck. He presses a kiss to the bottom-most cervical vertebrae and inhales my scent delightedly.
“You enjoying yourself back there?”
“You smell good,” he mumbles shyly. Hugging his arms around me tighter, he traces soothing circles on my hip bone with his right index finger. His head comes to a static position as he’s finally comfortable, and slings his left leg over the side of my left thigh. I can’t help but laugh at the assumed position, and pull out my phone to entertain myself, knowing damn well that Owen will be asleep in a matter of minutes.
When I open instagram my face falters a little bit. The most recent post is from my coworker Kelly, and it’s a video of her 6 month old baby. In the video, her husband is holding the baby, making funny faces at her to get her to laugh. The sight is adorable and kind of saddening all at once. They seem like such a happy family and I’m sharply reminded by a thump in my chest of how Kelly got the promotion we were both up for last week. Her life seems magnificent, and mine feels like it hasn’t started yet. I know she’s three years older than me, but still. Three years isn’t that much. I still feel like I have no idea what I’m doing, or going to do.
“Owen?” I don’t trust my voice to lift over a whisper.
“Yeah?”
“Are you happy?”
“I am now that you’re finally relaxing with me-”
“No,” I cut off his pointed comment with a breathy laugh, “I mean with life in general.” Owen’s finger stops tracing circles, and there’s no more movement of him making small adjustments. The only proof I have of him being alive is the faint tickle of his breath across the exposed skin of my neck.
“I mean, not everything is fantastic per se, but I’m content with the balance of good and bad.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well… I still get in my own head with auditions a bit, but I have acting and a new pad and you,” Owen emphasizes his statement by hugging onto my waist a bit tighter. “Why? What’s up?”
“I don’t know. I just get consumed by the thought that--yes, everyone wants to be happy--but it just doesn’t happen for some people. Everyone has dreams and goals and aspirations, but how many people can actually say that they have their dream career or dream life?” I let out an involuntary sigh from subconsciously holding my breath. “What if I’m not one of the people who gets to be happy?”
“Woah… where is this coming from?” Owen holds onto me tighter at the lack of a response. He presses a lingering kiss to my back and doesn’t move away until he feels my shoulders physically relax in his grasp.
“You deserve to be happy. And you will be even if you aren’t right now. Even if the bad outweighs the good right now, you have me. I’m here for you… I love you, Y/n.”
“I know. I love you.”
“Besides, aren’t you a little young to be having so much existential dread?”
“Oh, that is so rich coming from you.”
“And just what the hell is that supposed to mean?” Owen scoffs in defense of his honor.
“You are the biggest doomsayer I have ever met.”
“It could be worse. I could be this existential and look like you.” It’s my turn to play up defensive with an exaggerated gasp.
“You can cuddle with yourself then while I-”
“No! I’m sorry, please don’t leave!” His hold on my body grows impossibly tighter as he pulls me into his broad chest. I give in and stop struggling against him. Owen peppers the bare skin of my neck in staccato kisses to restore my tranquility. It’s not long until the two of us settle into a comfortable silence, simply desiring to be enveloped in one another’s presence. The syncopation of our breathing is the only sign of life in the room, and I’m consumed by a moment's clarity: as long as I have Owen, the good will always outweigh the bad.
***
A/n: Okay so for you nosy fuckers who care to read this: the reason I kinda disappeared... is so fuckin dumb. Idk how I got here but atm I’m #obsessed with Mat Barzal. Yeah. The hockey player. I don’t want to become a hockey blog tho so I figured I’d just go through this on my own and then resurface once I’m back on my JATP headassery. Slowly but surely, I can get through it. I go through periods of time where I exclusively read fics and then exclusively write fics. This has been a time of reading recently as I’ve purged the majority of Barzal content on here.

=-=-=-=-=
5:30 am - Thursday, July 19, 2012 - Montreal, Quebec, Canada. - 18˚C
The sun's rays started to appear slowly, starting to illuminate the city and consequently my room, but it wasn’t necessary the sun or my alarm clock to wake me up, because in a way my body had already gotten used to waking up at that time. I don't even know why I keep putting my phone on to wake up since I always wake up before, but that's not important.
I got up quickly from my bed when I saw the time on the cell phone, I then went to my wardrobe and grabbed my waitress uniform, my underwear and a bath towel, of course.
I took a hot shower, but tried not to take too long; as soon as I dried my body, I put the towel on the laundry basket, I put on my underwear and my skirt, but before I put on my shirt I took the dryer and dried my hair until it was not soaked, otherwise my uniform would be completely wet, comb my hair quickly and tie it in a bun, I put my shirt on, I brushed my teeth and then took one last look in the mirror, observing my appearance, I think I was fine.
Leaving the bathroom, I go to my wardrobe again, but now to get a jacket, since at that time outside it was still kind of cold, and in addition I took a spare suit and put it in my brown cross bag. I went to the nightstand and took out my cell phone, putting it in my bag too, so when I left my room, I saw that Kodi was lying on my couch.
- Kodi! Get off the couch, now! - I command when I approach the couch, and he gets up quickly leaving the place.
I went to the pantry and picked up the packet of food, and then filled the Kodi bowl that didn't take long to start eating. I filled his other bowl with water too and then I wash my hands after I pet him, I grab the keys that were on the key holder on the wall near the door.
- Bye Kodi, I'll be back at night. - After saying goodbye to my dog, I go out into the building's corridor and close the door to my apartment.
I walked down the corridor until I reached the elevator, and as always it was empty, not that it was a problem, since I preferred it when it was empty. I pressed the button to get to the ground floor, grab my cell phone and see that it was already 6:03, I had 27 minutes to get to work. It didn't take long for the elevator to reach the hall, I got out and walked the big carpet that led to the entrance/exit door of the building, and when I get there the doorman opens the door for me.
- Bonjour. - I greet him before going through the door.
- Bonjour mademoiselle. - He reciprocates with a smile, when I go out I take the earphones from my bag and connect them on my cell phone, putting the song It's time - Imagine Dragons, and so I leave towards the subway, the path was smooth, there weren't as many people on the streets as there were last week, but there was already considerable car movement.
I look around me, seeing the sunlight reflecting the various buildings, houses, trees, and everything that was there, leaving everything as if it looked like a beautiful painting. I give a little delighted sigh, no matter how much I walk there every day, the way the sun reflected differently each day left that path in such an incredible way, that made me always want to make a painting of it, well, who knows, maybe someday.
In less than 10 minutes I arrive at the subway station, going down the stairs and then going through the turnstile, I didn't have to wait long for the subway to arrive, because in almost two minutes it was already there.
I get into the blue car and realize that there were already some people over there, however there were still several empty seats, but I decided to stand up since I knew that in 5 minutes I would reach my point, so it was not worth having to sit.
Tonight Tonight - Hot Chelle Rae was playing when the subway stopped, and I got out of the car as several people got in, some bumping into me, but nothing more than normal.
I walked up the stairs until I reached the surface again, looking at my cell phone, 6:23, I had 7 minutes to get to work, so I started to walk faster, lucky for me that the path to the cafeteria I worked in was about 5 minutes from the subway, so I managed to get there in time. The cafeteria had its door open when I arrived, but the front sign still said it was closed, so staff could get ready before customers arrived.
- Good morning y/n! - One of my colleagues, Lilly, who was at the counter greeted me as soon as I passed her.
- Good Morning. - I replied as I passed the employees' entrance so I could get to my closet and leave my belongings there, and also pick up my apron.
The apron as well as the rest of my uniform had a brownish tone that reminded me of coffee, I put it on and looked at myself in the mirror, fixing it so it wouldn't be bent, and as soon as I finished I did a quick tidy up of my hair that was messed up by the wind.
Leaving the staff area, I go to the counter, and notice that the sign on the door was turned, announcing that the cafeteria was open, so it was likely that some customers would come soon.
The cafeteria I worked for wasn't a franchise, and it wasn't the most famous in town either, but here in the neighborhood a lot of people liked to come here, have coffee, eat some sweet food, read some book, talk to coworkers, relax, and anything else that normal people do in a coffee shop.
But I must say that lately the cafeteria hasn’t been very busy, and maybe the reason is that it was summer, and not everyone liked to drink coffee in the heat, so the period that would be considered the busiest would be in the morning, which is when people normally have breakfast.
I took a pencil and put it in my ear, curling it in a few strands of hair so it wouldn't fall out, I took my notepad to take orders, and I was leaning on the counter, talking to some colleagues while there was no customer to attend, and I took advantage and made myself a coffee because I hadn't had anything since I woke up.
The day passed quietly, nothing much, just another ordinary day serving customers, talking to those who were the most frequent, taking a break for lunch, and then going back to work until 03:30 pm, and when I finished my work, I took all my things and went to the subway, but not to go home, because my work was still far from finished.
I work as a volunteer in an animal shelter, I give them food, water, baths, brush hair, play with them, and also what I do most is training the dogs.
When I started at the shelter about three years ago I only took care of the basics, but one day when I was just playing with an elderly dog, one of my colleagues saw what I was doing and asked me how I managed to teach a trick to an old dog, and I just shrugged, because I didn't know exactly what to say, it was like training a trick for any dog for me, I just had to be more patient, but I didn't think that was an impossible task, but for many, teaching tricks to elderly dogs was a lost cause.
Since that day, my colleagues have talked to me with some professional trainers who have given me more in-depth instructions to help me train other dogs too, in addition to teaching me necessary things like animal behavior and other things, of course I had learned several things, but in a way I was more of an amateur who liked to understand dogs and train them, but after three years of doing that, I kind of became a dog trainer, something I never really thought I would ever become.
When I arrived at the shelter I realized that it was almost 4:00 pm. I opened the glass door, and the receptionist said good afternoon, and I responded by saying the same. I walked to the bathroom so I could change my clothes, putting on denim shorts that went up to about half of my thigh, and a dark red shirt with a sunflower print, I also applied a deodorant, and then I put everything in my bag and left the bathroom, going in the direction of the cabinets that served to store the employees' belongings, and so I put my bag there.
Leaving there, I went to the big patio, where there were some people visiting to maybe adopt a dog, there were some colleagues of mine who were talking to customers, others bathing some dogs, some chasing dogs that were fleeing the bath, and so on. As soon as I got there, some dogs came to greet me, and I bent down to pet them. When I went to the pantry to get some snacks, Emy, one of my colleagues, and also one of my friends, came up to me and started talking with her usual animation.
- Hey y/n! How are you?
- Hi Emy, I'm fine, how are you? - I start looking for the snacks, while Emy kept talking.
- I'm great! Mainly because I have great news for you! - I quickly turn to face her, before continuing to look for the dog cookies.
- What kind of news?
- You remember Dusty, don't you? The Rottweiler you saved.
- Yes of course. The good news is that he was adopted? - I find the big canine cookie jar and turn around, facing Emy, and then looking at the dogs around me, just waiting for me to give them some cookies.
- Oh, no. Unfortunately nobody was interested in adopting him, you know, his reputation as a killer dog is still around, so people don't have much courage to even get close to him.
- But… so what's the good news? - I open the cookie jar, taking out one and looking at the dogs in front of me, motioning for them to sit.
- Well, I told a friend of mine the story of how you managed to tame the dog that nobody thought would be able to become tame. - I nodded for her to continue talking. - And he was impressed with that and wants to meet you in person, to know about your skills, and who knows to offer a special job for you.
- Special job? What kind of special job? - I threw some cookies at those who sat down.
- Do you know Simon Masrani?
I stood for a while thinking about the name, I must have heard of that name, actually in the surname, but I couldn't remember who that could be. And while thinking about it, one of the dogs jumped in my hand to get the cookie, but I managed to dodge it before he could get it.
- Hmm, I think I've heard of it, but I don't know who it is.
- Well, Simon owns Jurassic World, you know, the dinosaur zoo. - I nodded my head. Of course I had heard about the famous dinosaur park, who doesn't know? It's like talking if you've heard of Disney parks, you may never have been there, but you know it exists.
- Yes, the dinosaur park.
- Well, he told me that he is looking for new dinosaur trainers, and that's when I commented about you, and he believes that you can serve for the job. - I stood there, looking at Emy.
- Are you serious?
- Of course, it's the purest truth, I swear.
- You know, it's not just because I managed to tame Dusty that it means that I can train a dinosaur.
- I know that training a dinosaur has nothing to do with a dog, but Simon Masrani himself says that you can be the person he is looking for! And y/n, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity!
- No, no, no, no way. Dinosaurs were a mistake and it is impossible to train them. A dog is already difficult to train, now, a dinosaur?! A being that can make you into pieces in seconds? No, no way, I can't do that. - I motioned for the dogs to spin, and just like before, for those who succeeded I gave them a snack.
- Okay, okay. I know that, but you can at least try, can't you? I mean, what do you have to lose?
- Huh, my life, maybe?
-… Okay, maybe you're right, but who said you would train a carnivore? It may be an herbivore.
- If he became interested in me because I tame a killer dog, I am almost 100% sure that it is for something dangerous, that is, a carnivore.
- Okay, but there's a problem…
- What problem?
- I already told him that this weekend you would travel there to see if you would accept the job.
I turn to face her, and I can feel the anger rising in me, but I try to stay calm.
- You... did what?
- Y/n, I thought you would accept that, you always say that you love training dogs, especially the most difficult ones, so I thought you would like this challenge.
- But how can you say that I would go there without even warning me first??
- I'm warning you now.
I close my eyes, taking a deep breath, trying to stay calm.
- Dinosaurs aren't dogs.
- Y / n, I'm sorry I didn't warn you, but do you think about the opportunity you would have? How many people would like to have this job?
- And why are you trying to convince me to accept this? What do you get with it?
-...
- Emy, what do you get out of it? What is the purpose of this? The life is mine, and I am perfectly fine with my life here and my job.
- I know this is going to sound stupid... but... I wanted to have this job, but I can't, because not only do I know nothing about dinosaurs, as I suck at how to train an animal, so I wanted to refer someone I knew so that if it worked… Simon would be happy with me, and I don't know, maybe I would get closer to him.
I soften my expression, I already knew that Emy was interested in a guy who was very close to her, but that she thought she would never be able to be with him, and I remember her very well saying that she was getting too old to have a boyfriend, and that as a single mother her chances fall even more, and among many other dramas of her, and then I told her that I would help to stay with him, and now she's talking about the Simon Masrani, I'm pretty sure it's him she's interested in.
I didn't know exactly what to say, so I was thinking for a few seconds, I remembered when I met Nathan, and that if it weren't for Emy I would never have stayed with him, even though he have moved and we broke up, in a way, I owed Emy.
I take a deep breath, I look at the dogs that are still there, waiting for the next order, and then I look at my friend and say.
- Okay, I can maybe give it a try.
- Oh really? - The smile comes back to stamp her face.
- But I can't promise anything.
- Ah this is amazing!! - Before I could react, Emy hugs me tightly, not letting me breathe.
- I… am… out of breath. - I say and she walks away from me, and take a deep breath looking for oxygen.
- I'm just going to do this, because I owe you one.
- Do you owe me? Owing what?
- You helped me stay with Nathan, I think it's fair to try to help you stay with Simon. - I shrug, and then I realize that when Emy hugged me, several cookies had fallen and some dogs went there to eat.
- Thanks y/n. I'm sure you will do well there.
- I hope so. - And so we finished our conversation, she going to who knows where, and I continued with the training of the dogs and taking care of them until the sun started to disappear on the horizon, meaning that it should be more than 08:00 pm.
As it started to get dark I go to the closet and grab my backpack where all my belongings were, I put the bag on my left shoulder and then say goodbye to my colleagues, leaving right afterwards in the direction of the subway.
The whole way back home I listened to music, which helped me a little bit to reduce stress, I couldn't stop thinking about Jurassic World, and how crazy it all was and that would probably it would be my death, as I was sure that being around dinosaurs wouldn't be a good idea.
And speaking of dinosaurs, I also couldn't stop thinking about a work school of Hailee, my ex-boyfriend's daughter, that I helped her do, which was about dinosaurs, where she had to make a model of her favorite dinosaur, but she couldn't decide between 6 dinosaurs which one was her favorite, so we did what we called the "Mini Jurassic World", with all of her favorite dinos.
I smile a little when I remember that, I will not deny that I missed Nathan and Hailee, but there was nothing I could do, Nathan had to move because he had got an unmissable job opportunity, and at the time I was very busy with Dusty, and I couldn't leave him when the training was finally starting to work, we knew that a long distance relationship wouldn't work, so we had to break up.
When I realized I was already at the door of the building, looking at my cell phone I see that the path took almost 50 minutes, nothing more than normal. I open the glass door and clean my shoes before walking to the elevator, entering I press number 8 and the doors close, even if it didn't take long for the elevator to go up, and even though I use it every day, I can't help feeling cold in my stomach every time.
The metal doors of the elevator opened, giving me relief that I had no problem. As I walked down the corridor I rummaged in my backpack for my keys, and as soon as I found them I put the silver key in the door lock, that in a few seconds was opened and when I went in I ended up being knocked over by Kodi, who jumped on me and licked my face.
- Kodi! No! No licking! - I chuckle while taking him away from me and then wiping my face and getting up.
- Come Kodi, inside. - I order and he obeys me entering the apartment and I lock the door again.
Before anything else I put water and food for Kodi since he was done with everything, and even before I finished adding the ration he was already devouring it. After I saved the dog food pack,
I went to my room to get comfortable clothes and a bath towel, I took my cell phone too and put it on Youtube so I could listen to some music while taking a shower. I was so engrossed in the music and lost in my thoughts that I spent almost half an hour in the shower, at least I was a little more relaxed. After I got dressed I went to the kitchen and started preparing some pasta and sauce for my dinner.
While waiting for the pasta to be ready I turned on my TV, passing through the channels I stopped at random one, since there was nothing going on that interested me. I lay for a while on the couch, with Kodi lying on the floor beside me, until my cell phone rings meaning it was time to finish dinner.
I walked to the kitchen, added tomato sauce to the pasta, and waited a few minutes until it was ready, putting a quantity of the food on my plate, I also go to the fridge and get a piece of fried chicken that was left over from yesterday and put it in the microwave to heat it up.
As soon as it was ready, I put it on my plate with the pasta, I go back to the fridge taking a bottle of coke and a glass from the cupboard, putting both on the table, but I had to go back to get a fork and a knife because I had forgotten.
Dinner was quiet, with only the low sound of the television and the occasional sound of Kodi's paws in the background.
- Hey Kodi. - I called him and he raised his head to look at me. - I have a new job opportunity… to train dinosaurs, but... I don't know, I don't know if I should do this or not, because, first of all, they are dinosaurs! You know, I always thought it was a bad idea for us humans to bring them back to life, I mean, it's an extraordinary thing for science, and I can't say that dinosaurs aren't fascinating but… they are dangerous! if this Simon was impressed with me why I managed to train Dusty, something tells me it’s not to train a tame herbivore, but a dangerous carnivore. Second, I have no idea how to deal with dinosaurs! I don't even know anything about them, I have no training in dealing with animals! I just… I think I was lucky to have managed to train Dusty, and I don't think I can deal with a prehistoric being just because I have tamed a killer dog.
Kodi looked at me, paying attention to what I was saying, I sigh.
- I wish you could talk so you could help me. - I support my head in one of my hands, watching my half-eaten plate of food, starting to cool. - I don't know what I do.
Kodi places his cold snout on my right foot, he always, whenever I felt nervous, anxious, worried, or any other feeling of distress, he always put his snout on my foot.
I didn't even notice when a tear ran down my cheek, I was scared, that's what I was, scared and insecure. Fear that training with a dinosaur would end up killing me, and insecure that if I get this job, I won't be able to domesticate this dinosaur, and thus end up disappointing everyone. This job really was a great opportunity, but would it be worth it? Could I do that?
I decide it would be better to finish eating my food before it gets cold, and as soon as I'm done, I wash the plate, cutlery and glass, leaving them on the drying rack. I take a plastic pot from a drawer and then put the leftover pasta in the pan, placing it in the refrigerator so that it can heat up the next day.
I go to the bathroom, brush my teeth and do my necessities, after washing my hands I go to the kitchen where I left my cell phone and I pick up it, going to my room and putting it on the nightstand, plugging it into the charger. I hear footsteps and see that Kodi came to my room and lay down on his bed that was next to my bed.
- Good night, Kodi. - He growls slightly in response, and then I lie down laying the blankets over me, but to my unhappiness I was unable to sleep, even though I had used up all my energy. I sigh in lament, and I see on my cell phone and it was almost 00:00, that is, if I slept now I would have a maximum of 5:30 sleep, but I knew I wouldn't sleep now, so I rolled over in bed because it was better than looking at the ceiling.
When sleep hasn't come and I see on my cell phone that half an hour has passed, I get up from bed,  which caused Kodi to get up too and follow me. I walk around my small apartment arriving at the kitchen where I kept my medicines and I made myself take sleeping pills. I just hoped I could wake up with the alarm clock and not be late for work.
- Come on Kodi, let's sleep. - I say while gesturing for us to go back to the room, and he followed me quietly.

A/n - Hello again! I don’t know if it got really good, because I kind of didn’t completely get out of my block, but I hope it looks good.
I know Jurassic World itself hasn't appeared yet, and neither does Owen, but I ask you to be patient, because I like to (try) write things more "in detail" and not so fast so that things make more sense and to try to bring a greater immersion into the story (I don't know if I'm doing it, but I'm trying my best), but I already plan to do the second chapter in Jurassic World, so just have a little patience.
Also, also, this week I will be without class for the whole week!!! UHULLL!!! This means that I will have some time to write some things...
I hope you enjoyed, and please let me know if this has any english error.
By the way, tell me which dinosaur do you think y/n will be a trainer, and believe me, I can surprise you with the answer ;)
Until the next chapter!

You knew something wasn't right when you got up for work this morning. You felt way too hot, you were sweating through your clothes, and you looked pale. You so dearly wanted to stay home but you hadn't scheduled the time off and you couldn't leave your coworkers one person short. Also you were a Strand you couldn't let a little sickness stop you from working. You are the twin sister of TK Strand and the daughter of Owen Strand.
As you got up from your bed the energy seemed to drain from you and you felt like passing out right back into bed but you needed to go to work. You stood there for a minute before everything stopped spinning and you slowly made it to your bathroom. You slowly and a little bit unsteady got in the shower and washed yourself of the sweat and then you were slowly getting out after you were done and got dressed and brushed your teeth and your hair. You were almost out the door when your stomach churned and you were heading straight to the guest bathroom and throwing up whatever you had in your stomach. When you were done getting rid of the contents in your stomach you got up flushed and rinsed your mouth out you were out the door and heading to your truck. “You can do this. It's just 3 days.” You said to yourself as you put your truck into gear and headed towards the station. You had the air blasting on you which felt really good.
Finally you arrived at the station and you parked your truck beside your dad's. You sat in your truck for a few minutes and closed your eyes and accidentally drifted off and you would know this because there was a knock on your window which jerked you awake. You looked over and saw it was Judd Ryder. You opened the door and he smiled softly at you. “You ok?” He asked and you smiled back at him.
“Yea, I'm perfectly fine. Didn't sleep well last night and decided to catch up on some sleep before going in.” You said and he nodded but didn't look convinced.
“Are you sure?” He asked
“I'm fine, Judd. I promise.” You said as you jumped out of the truck and you stumbled ever so slightly.
“Y/N/N.” He warned and you waved him off.
“I'm fine. It was just a bad misstep. I'm ok.” You said
“Ok ok. Just if you start feeling bad or anything please let someone know.” He pleaded
“I will. I promise.” You said and he seems satisfied with that answer. You weakly grabbed your bag and the both of you started your trek into the firehouse conversation being made along the way. You so badly wanted to stop and take a breath but you couldn't not now, you couldn't let him see you weak. By the time you reached the stairs to head up and put your stuff in a locker your head was spinning and you were on fire but you had to push through and hope not too many calls would come through.
You were just about to start ascending the stairs when your brother's voice came to your ringing ears. “Hey, Sis. You ok?” He asked if anyone would notice how sick you were it would be your paramedic twin brother. You also know that he would be the hardest to convince along with your father.
“Hey, TK. I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?” You asked, putting on a smile and he looked at you with an eyebrow raised.
“You just seem off. You also didn't meet Carlos and I for supper last night.” He said
“Shit, I totally forgot. I'm so sorry.” You said and he smiled and shook his head.
“It's ok. Nothing to fret over. We don't hold grudges.” He said and you chuckled which made your head hurt and your body ache. You needed water. You squeezed your eyes closed and he took notice of this. “Are you sure you're ok?” He asked.
“TK I promise I'm fine. I just have a little bit of a headache, nothing a little rest, Tylenol, and fluids won't fix.” You said and he didn't look convinced but he took the answer.
“Fine. Let me know if it gets worse. Please?” He pleaded
“I will. I promise.” You said as the bells rang signaling for the ambulance. The sound went straight to your pounding head but you didn't move not wanting to throw anyone off.
“Well, I gotta go. You go sit and get something in you. You don't look so good.” He said
“I will. Be safe and I love you.” You said
“Love you too, Sis.” He said and then he was taking off and hopped into the ambulance and they were off. You sighed finally alone you made it up the stairs and to the locker room where you put your stuff and headed into the kitchen. You quickly grabbed what you were looking for and then you were going and landing yourself on the couch laying down. You put an arm across your eyes and actually drifted off. You were waking up to someone calling your name and it turned out to be your father.
“Hey, Y/N/N. Wake up.” He said and you groaned but did as you were told.
“Hmmm I'm awake.” You said and sat up quickly and instantly regretted it. “How long was I asleep?” You asked.
“30 minutes.” Your dad said.
“Shit did I miss a bell?” You asked and he shook his head.
“No. Are you feeling ok?” He asked
“Why does everyone keep asking me that? I'm fine.” You said
“It's not normal for you to sleep on shift when it's not night time. What's wrong?” He asked and you shook your head.
“Nothing is wrong.” You said and he gave you that fatherly look saying ‘don't lie to me’. “I'm just trying to get caught up on some sleep. I didn't sleep well last night.” You said and he rose an eyebrow but knew that if he pushed you then you would close off. Besides after that nap you were feeling a little better. Then just as your luck would have it the bells went off and you groaned.
“Come on. We have to get going.” He said and stood and so did you but you stood there for a minute while black dots filled your vision. Your father didn't notice and went on. After they disappeared and good to go you got up and rushed downstairs and pulled your gear on. You hopped into the truck and then you were off to the call. Having all the gear on you made your temperature start to rise and you to sweat. You were having trouble breathing but masked it well and your body was drained of energy. Any more strenuous activity and you would be passing out but that's what your job called for so you sucked it up and continued on.
When the truck arrived at the scene it appeared to be an apartment fire and it had to be all hands on deck. You sighed and got out, legs shaking but you quickly made them stop and waited for your captain to give orders. “Y/N, Judd I want you to go in there and get anyone else out. Paul, Marjon start putting the fire out. Mateo and I will help TK, Nancy, and Tommi with rounding everyone else up and getting them medical attention that they need.” Your dad said and everyone acknowledged the orders and then you were off to do your job. Your turnout gear felt too hot and too heavy when it normally didn't bother you. The mask made it seem like it was suffocating you more and stealing your air. The oxygen tank didn't help either. You were very close to passing out but moved on.
“You good?” Judd asked as you two began to enter the apartment.
“Yea, yea I'm good. Hey, do you mind taking the top floors and I stay close to the bottom?” You asked
“Not all. Call me if you need me.” He said and you nodded and then started to work on clearing the first floor out.
“Fire department call out!” You yelled and got nothing and so you kept calling out as you checked everywhere, each call out took your breath away but you cleared the first floor “Judd first floor is clear. Heading to second.” You said and moved on to the second floor.
“Copy that. The 4th floor is clear. Heading to third.” He said
“Copy that.” You said a little breathlessly and you hoped nobody caught onto it and it seemed like they didn't because they didn't say anything. “Fire department call out!” You said and that one made you a little light headed and you had to lean against the wall for a second.
“Help! I'm trapped!” A tiny female voice said and that got you going despite the sweat dripping down your face and getting in your eyes.
“Fire department call out!” You said
“Here!” The voice said and you went to the 5th door on the right.
“Are you away from the door?” You asked
“Yes.” She said and you broke down the door and found the little girl huddled in the corner, the fire just starting to make its way into the home.
“I'm here, Sweetie. I'm gonna get you to safety.” You said and she nodded “Where are you parents?” You asked.
“They're at work. I’m with my babysitter. She got hit with something and got knocked out .” She said tears in her eyes and your heart broke.
“Judd, I'm gonna need some help down here. I got a little girl and she said her parents are at work and she was with her babysitter but she got hit and knocked out by something.” You said
“Copy. 3rd floor is clear. Coming down now.” He said
“Copy.” You said and then turned to the little girl. “I'm gonna get you out of here and my friend will get your babysitter out ok?” You asked and she nodded.
“Ok.” She said and you picked her up and made her bury her head into your turnout gear to decrease to smoke inhalation. As you were starting to walk out  Judd walked through the door.
“Rest of the floor is clear. You go on and get her out and I'll get the babysitter out.” He said and you nodded and so you headed out of the room as fast as you could but you started to not feel good and light headed.
“What is your name?” You asked her to try to take your mind off of feeling sick.
“Josey.” She said and you smiled.
“That's a pretty name. I'm Y/N.” You said
“I like that name.” She said
“Me too.” You replied as you quickly descended the stairs and out of the lobby. You were quick to take off your helmet and yell for your brother. “TK!” You shouted and he looked up and came rushing over.
“What do we got?” He asked
“This is Josey. She was in the room with her babysitter when the fire started. Judd should be bringing out the babysitter any minute now.” He said and nodded and guided you over to a spot and you set her down as he and Tommi started to work on her and you walked away. You ripped the mask off and breathed heavily hands on your knees, you were exhausted.
“You ok?” Marjan asked and you looked up at her.
“Yes. Why?” You asked
“You do not look good.” She said
“I'm ok.” You said as black dots started to appear and you started to sweat more Breathing became difficult. You were getting light headed by the second.
“Owen!” She yelled and he looked up to where she was and his eyes widened. TK looked up too and did the same thing Tommi told him to go and the two Strand men were rushing to your side.
“Y/N!” Your dad said as he practically caught you as you started to tumble down.
“Sis!” TK said as he started to take off your heavy gear and throw your turnout coat off and then they could really see that you were soaking wet from sweat.
“What do I need to do?” Marjan asked
“Go and grab my med kit from the ambulance.” TK said and she nodded and took off.
“You're burning up.” Your dad said as he helped lower you down to where you were sitting on the step of the firetruck.
“I'm ok.” You said and waved him off and he shook his head.
“No you're not.” He replied as Marjan arrived with TK's get and started to get everything out. He grabbed a thermometer and quickly took your temperature and he quickly beeped.
“103.2.” He said
“You shouldn't have come to work if you were feeling this bad. How long have you been like this?” Your dad asked.
“Since last night.” You said as Marjan handed you a Gatorade.
“Here it'll help with your lost electrolytes.” She said
“Thank you.” You said weakly and opened it and downed half of it.
“I want you to go to the hospital.” Your dad said
“Dad, no. I'm fine.” You said and he shook his head.
“As your dad and your captain I'm ordering you to go.” He said and you huffed.
“Fine.” You said and then looked at TK who was holding out a hand and you took it and he helped you up and you stumbled into him and the dark spots started to dance again. Everything sounded like it was underwater.
“Y/N.” Your dad said but you had totally gone limp in your brother's arm finally letting the darkness take over.
“Fuck. I think she just passed out.” TK said as Nancy and Tommi came over with a gurney after seeing what happened. It was a really good thing that more than one firehouse was called out. They quickly got you onto the gurney and started to take off your heavy gear, thankfully you had pants on underneath. They pushed you over to the very close 126 Ambulance and loaded you in. They were quick to start cooling you down. As TK started to place an IV you started to wake up.
“Bro?” You asked and looked at him and he smiled.
“You passed out. We're taking you to the hospital and I'm gonna get an IV with cool fluids going ok?” He asked and you nodded as he placed a tourniquet around your arm and your veins popped up but he knew they would be fragile, but he was skilled at this and placed it with practiced ease. You whimpered but didn't make another sound “It's ok, Sis. I got ya.” He said and then started the fluids and they felt like fire running through your veins but you didn't make a sound and after a few seconds it started to feel good.
“TK we're here.” Nancy said as she stopped outside of the Emergency side of the hospital and they were quick to get you out and unloaded.
They rolled you in and TK told the nurses and doctor what happened “She passed out at a scene. Temperature was 103.2, we've had cooling material and cool IV fluids on board so it may have come down. She said that she threw up before starting her shift this morning and she took Tylenol about 3 hrs ago. She also downed half a body of Gatorade, she then stood up and passed out in my arms and no she did not hit her head.” He said and they nodded in understanding as they transferred you to a bed. He would be staying since he was family and they allowed it.
“I'm Dr. Hedges. I see her temperature has gone down to 102. We'll continue with the cooling down and hopefully that's all it is but we'll test her for viruses.” The doctor said and TK nodded and then your dad was rolling into the ER and he was being pointed to where you were.
“How is she?” Your dad asked, turning to the doctor.
“As I was telling your son, I'm Dr. Hedges. Her temperature has gone down to 102. I want to run some tests for any viruses and I want to keep doing the cooling down treatments.” He said and your dad nodded.
“Cooling down how?” He asked
“Cool towel on her head and cool fluids.” Dr. Hedges said and your dad nodded.
“Whatever needs to be done.” Your dad said and Dr. Hedges nodded as a nurse came in with a towel and a bowl of water then left. Your dad got to work on dabbing your forehead and then laying the towel over your forehead.
“I'll have a nurse in to grab what is needed for the tests.” He said and both your brother and dad nodded, already starting to fuss over you. It was 10 minutes after he left that you started to wake up.
“TK?” You asked
“I'm here and so is dad.” He said pointing to him and you looked over at him.
“Dad, I'm sorry.” You said
“It's ok.” He said and you shook your head slightly.
“No it's not. I came to work when I was sick.” You said
“It really is ok. You're a Strand you got that stubborn gene in you. You also have the need to want to help people.” He said “Both of you do.” He said and you and TK chuckled and smiled. Soon the nurse was coming in.
“Good to see you awake Ms. Strand.” She said
“Please just Y/N.” You said and she nodded.
“I'm just gonna grab some swabs and run some tests.” She said and you nodded and she smiled glad you actually have a cooperative patient. She got the swabs and put them in the container. “I'll get these going and Dr. Hedges will be back in afterwards with the results.” She said and all of you nodded and smiled.
“It's probably a bad cold that I got from helping those kids at the local fair.” You said
“Hopefully that's all and nothing else. Can't have you sick sick on me. I can't deal with dad alone.” TK said and you laughed and your dad looked offended.
“What's that supposed to mean?” He asked and you both shook your head.
“Nothing, Daddy. We love you.” You said and he looked at you suspiciously.
“Love you both too.” He said and then Dr. Hedges was walking in.
“Glad to see you awake, Y/N.” He said and you smiled.
“The nap helped.” You said and he smiled.
“It looks like the wet towel and cool fluids did the trick. You're temperature is down to 97.7, which is great. I got the results back and it does turn out you do have the flu and it must've been an aggressive one because the results came back very quickly. I suggest taking Tylenol every 8 hrs and get some Sudafed PE Head Congestion + Flu Severe Tablets to help with drying all the congestion up. Other than that I'm happy with your temperature and comfortable with releasing you.” He said and you nodded and smiled.
“Thank you, Dr. Hedges.” You said and the other two nodded and said the same thing.
“You're very welcome. I'll have a nurse in here with discharge papers and then you can be on your way.” He said and then was out of the room.
“Ok, so back to work.” You said
“Oh, no.” Your dad and brother said at the same time.
“What? I'm fine.” You said
“You passed out in my arms and you were running a temperature. Not to mention you got sick before you even came to the station. You're not going back to work, you're going to go home and if I have to Carlos sit outside your house then I will. You're not leaving that house until you're better.” TK said and your mouth dropped open and you looked at your dad and he nodded.
“You're not going to work. You're going home. TK or I can bring your belongings to you.” Your dad said.
“But dad-” You started but was cut off by a nurse coming in with discharge papers and to take out the IV. She did so in silence while you glared at your dad and brother because you were perfectly fine to go back to work. Once the nurse was gone and the IV no longer in you, Carlos walked in. “TK!” You shrieked and looked at him.
“What? I didn't call him.” He said
“No, I was already here and heard you lot were here.” Carlos said “Wanted to make sure you or your brother hadn't landed in a coma.” He said.
“That's TK's specialty.” You said and he didn't deny it and everyone nodded knowing it was true. Finally you got up and walked out of the hospital with the three men and there was Judd in his truck waiting for the three of you. You bid Carlos a goodbye and then got in and he started off towards your house and not the station.
“Awww don't pout. You need your rest. I also got your meds that your dad texted me. Also your truck is here and here are the keys.” He said holding up the bag up and handing your keys to you which you took roughly and everyone chuckled and that made you just pout even more as he arrived at your house. You got out with TK and your dad and walked to the front door.
“I can walk to the house myself.” You pointed out.
“Just want to make sure you're safe.” They said at the same time and you glared again at them. You grabbed your keys and unlocked the door and walked in and TK set the bag down on the table in the living room as your dad went to the kitchen and grabbed Gatorade that you had in there.
“Get some fluids in you and rest. One of us or both of us will be back to check on you.” Your dad said and you nodded and went to sit down on the couch. “Call anyone if you need anything.” Your dad added.
“I will.” You said and they nodded and then started to leave. Once Judd’s truck was gone you took that as your chance to leave. You started to make your way to the front door when a cop car caught the corner of your eye and you looked at it. “For fucks sake. Really?” You asked throwing your hands up and you mentally made a note to hit your brother “He actually went through with it.” You said. Carlos waved at you and you could see him chuckling, you waved back and then stalked off from the window and sat down on the couch. You turned on the TV and took your meds and drank some.
Your glare slowly went away and you smiled and you shook your head. You were just glad you had people that loved you and wanted to look after you and to be honest you didn't feel up to go back to work you just wanted to lay around. You loved your dad and brother and they loved you back, if they didn't then they wouldn't be looking at for you. Although you were mad that they sent Carlos to sit outside of your house and for them making you stay home you didn't hate them. You chuckled and got comfortable on the couch and slowly you found yourself drifting off to sleep despite you sleeping at the hospital. As you drifted off you made a mental note to thank them later because without them your life wouldn't be what it was now. You were lucky and you loved them. You wouldn't trade them for anyone else. You three were stuck with each other.

FanFic Friday: Mission on Mimban 1 of 12
Previous Installments
Introduction
What Happens in the Chapter
Each post will have a summary of what happens in the chapter before detailing what I liked, what I found problematic, and my notes for my fic. There's only twelve chapters, and I'll try not to be wordy. Also direct quotes from the story will be in blue text. I was confusing myself while writing since I wasn't using parenthetical citations with them.
The first chapter quickly sets up broadly what has happened after the award ceremony and why Leia and Luke are traveling alone in this system. Leia has to meet with the "vacillating underground on Circarpous" to get that system to join the Rebel Alliance. If they agree, another unnamed system will join as well. And the Rebellion desperately needs their aid. Luke is her protection for this trip.
Once that's established, Leia's Y-Wing develops a problem and she has to land on Mimban, the unexplored fifth planet in the Circarpous system. Luke follows her down in his X-Wing and both ships are hit by a strange energy once they reach the atmosphere. Luke and Artoo survive the crash, pack up their supplies, and set off to find Leia and Threepio.
What I Liked
I will find at least one thing in every chapter to put in this section. But just rereading Chapter One suddenly explained why I was meh about Alan Dean Foster writing the novelization for the Force Awakens. I will try hard in this section, peeps.
Luke's untrained Force sensitivity gives him "an almost palpable feeling of unease" about landing on Mimban. Alas, Foster misses the opportunity to have Luke utter The Line because it wasn't a meme yet.
What I Found Problematic
This section is for what I didn't like and red flags. I'm going to give Star Wars inconsistencies as large a pass as I am able, because George Lucas didn't have the universe firmly created while Foster was writing this book in 1977 and 1978. The first error along these lines I found if Luke's internal monologue explain how he has no title or commission within the Rebel Alliance. These posts will take forever to read if I point out all of those.
We spend the first five pages setting up this summit meeting that Luke and Leia will never reach. That could have been trimmed ruthlessly, but apparently the first draft had a dogfight in space which Lucas asked to be removed. So maybe all this was added to keep the word count where it needed to be? I think the information could have been parsed out better to the readers during Luke and Leia's conversation concerning her wanting to stop right then for repairs so to make it to the meeting on time.
Something I can't ignore is how much I dislike Luke's voice in this chapter. The opening poetics which condense everything evil in the galaxy to "a sequence of cancerous civilizations which fed on its own body" don't sound like anything an Outer Rim hick who grew up on a moisture farm would come up with for metaphors. I give a point for Luke mentioning Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru along with his dead parents, but it doesn't help. Plus I have an automatic distrust when any narrator tells me how much he has matured since blowing up the Death Star. I can't decide if Foster means this sincerely or if he's rolling his eyes at Luke too.
"The other... whenever he looked at her, the other caused emotions to boil within him like soup too long on the fire." No time wasted in getting to the twincest stuff that confused kid reader me. Now reader is just aghast at that metaphor. Actually comparing something to cooking is a metaphor I find believable for Luke's voice. It's the boiling emotions that make me go eww instead of aww. I'm not feeling Luke's unrequited love here.
What Changes in My Fic
This section is my brainstorming for the Mission on Mimban fic.
1. Cast change: Luke, Mara, and Artoo. Threepio is with Leia who doesn't get stranded on this swamp planet. Mara does need an astromech for her X-Wing so I have to commit to a new character or commit to killing off a droid. Regardless, this adventure will give Mara all kinds of snark when she and Luke end up on Dagobah.
2. The timeline: I need to move this adventure much closer to the Battle of Yavin to preserve the padawans' inexperience with the Force. Plus the Rebel Alliance suspicions on if Mara has fully defected.
3. The reason for being there: One of Obi-Wan's complaints in Extrication will be Alliance duties yanking his padawans out of their Jedi training. This could be one of those duties, surveying unexplored and non-colonized worlds for Alliance purposes, and it's Luke and Mara's turn. The beacon is unexpected given their information on Mimban so they approach to investigate, strange energy in the atmosphere fried their ships, and they crash on planet.
I also suspect everything in this chapter can be condensed.

Tumblr media
