book asks: 5, 7, 11, 15, and 19
5: where do you buy books?
i rarely get to a bookstore in person, and i work at a library, so i get a lot of my reading done for free. BUT when i do buy books i get them off Thriftbooks and Abebooks and sites like that. cheaper than amazon, and sometimes you get cool surprises if the book is used.
7: is there a series or book that got you into reading?
i have been reading or being read to since before i can remember, but i think one of my first books when i was a young toddler was a board book called "The Bump Book". it was about an elephant who got a bump on his head. my mom read it to me so many times that she got bored and started reading it backwards to switch things up.
(okay i just texted her and it was NOT called 'the bump book,' that was just what we called it because the elephant was named bump. it is called "look at bump" and by god did i look at him. every goddamn day). if you have a child between the ages of zero and two, i highly recommend bump.
11: what nonfiction books do you like, if any?
oh good question. i like recipe books, especially if they teach me history or something about the food. i like medical history and narrative nonfiction about biology and history (mostly world history; or western american history). i like to read about christian religious fuckery - where and why it's dangerous. really enjoyed priestdaddy by patricia lockwood; i like the occasional memoir. i'm currently reading 'the devil and sherlock holmes' by david grann, a collection of his short nonfiction, and 'sex cult nun, by faith jones, about her childhood in the children of god cult. 'the emperor of maladies' by siddhartha mukherjee is on my kitchen table but i haven't really started it yet.
15: answered in a previous ask.
19: most DISLIKED popular books
i'll be honest i just simply do not get the appeal of most contemporary romance. could be because there's just a lot of bad examples of the genre, but even when the book is good, i get bored quickly. im trying to come up with a less cliche answer, but so far i don't have one haha . and as a librarian i am contractually obligated to have a hate on for colleen hoover who is quickly unseating the long-dreaded james patterson from the stat-busting overcirculation throne

I think with the way Tim and Kon were drawn it was they knew what they were doing. Fitzmartin is a CW writer and they have a tendency to pander to twitter/Tumblr and we know how popular Timkon is here. The story will probs throw Timsteph under the bus.
I'm not gonna shit talk TimKon, anon. I'm fine with it, it's a cute ship with merit.
If all I see people take away from the issue is that Tim and Kon held hands, well then those people aren't actually engaging with the story and that's up to them to miss out on not getting comics through random panels that are overcirculated and memed out of context.
As if other comics don't do this. Nightwing's meme shirts are pure pandering. They want people to circulate single panels and "I CAN'T" "omg this is so perfect" "literally the BEST thing I've seen in a comic ever" "I want that shirt omg". It gets attention, maybe draws in readers, but really this isn't a TimKon vs TimSteph issue.
Nothing really is. That shit doesn't have to matter.
I liked the preview.
If you want someone to validate whatever you've got going on here, it's not gonna be me. I've stopped expecting anything from DC a long time ago. I can say what I wish will happen, what I'd like to see, and what I'm enjoying about what I get. Currently I have no, all consuming quarrel with the pride specials. My only quarrel was just how long it took to Tim acknowledging the...well the elephant in the room. The very cute blonde one, that is.
Seriously anon, if you don't like TimKon, you can make your own post about it.
This is a "TimKon is perfectly tolerated, it's just not my first choice ship" blog.

? Did the blog you vague posted about send that anon. I would be bothered by anybody regardless of what gendered la fudge they use or age who posted what I would consider to be eating disorder-y stuff. Gross. Come out anon who sent that lol I love blocking blogs based off what asks they send my mutuals/blogs I follow.
I doubt it? The blog I was vague posting has been blocked and wasn't a porn blog in the slightest.
People just really don't wanna let go of their overcirculated content personality-free porn blogs. They'll literally have their blog deleted 7 times and immediately hop back on and do the same shit and act shocked when tumblr deletes them again in 4 months and they have to find their followers all over again.
I think I'm the only person who isn't a zealot against porn who thoroughly enjoys tumblr more after the porn ban. I say this as someone who ran a mildly successful porn blog as a FREE content creator from the ages 18-21. Shit ain't worth it. I'm STILL trying to get away from people on tumblr who only think of me as a porn blogger. Four years later.

Little things like flowers
continuation from thiiiiisss! @mpxdove
Still in his running gear, Areum had taken a much needed breather. Not from running, but from his own overcirculation of thoughts in his fucked up head. There were many things he was just stressed about and the voice in his head really loved to put extra stressors where they were not welcome. Even her presence hadn’t fully pulled him out of that as he reached out slowly to take the flower with hot fingers. The stem started turning a dark green from the heat as he held it, reminding him of the ruin he tended to bring onto innocent things.
It was a sweet gesture, though, and he appreciated it nonetheless. It was always the little things that Areum needed. The smallest amounts of kindness or even just a smile. So it still brought his mood up with the fact that she had even cared in the first place. “Yeah.. I’m alright my head just hates me so I was havin’ a moment of crisis. You know how it is.” Even with a deep voice the oversized man spoke softly in a way, contrary to his normal loud goofy self.
Returning from looking at the flower back up to her with a small smile, he didn’t feel scared by her. It was nice and somewhat comforting that even at the first meeting she didn’t make him nervous. “Do you hand out flowers to people havin’ bad days? Coz this was pretty heroic in my opinion. You never know who really needs something like this.”
Areum spoke from experience. He also knew for many people it was the same. Something small like a flower and kind eyes could turn their day entirely around. Could stop them from hurting their own pride and mentality moment by moment. He was always thankful for people like this woman.
