#7 with Sternclay, for the prompts?
Here you go! I went NSFW
#7: Iâm assigned to write a piece rounding up all the bad press that you, a famous celebrity, have been getting and you show up in my office and demand me to write a retraction and get the ârealâ storyâ
Barclay is so excited; heâs going to be spending two weeks on the Dual Mesa set, writing an exclusive behind the scenes story thatâs sure to give the magazine a big sales boost.Â
âAh, Barclay, come in.â Ned Chicane, the showâs director, ushers him into his office, âI assume they told you we will be leaving to shoot on location tomorrow?â
âYes, I, uh, Iâm really honored that you chose Q to run your story; your cast is so diverse, it really resonates with our readers.â
Ned waves a hand in faux-humility, âWhy create a show with paranormal elements that simply recreates homogeneity? However, my dear boy, you were not chosen by me.â
âI requested it.â Barclay turns as a tall man with dark hair enters the office, and has the sudden urge to hide under the nearest table. The man currently staring him down with bright blue eyes and a mild-yet-clearly displeased expression is Joseph Stern, star of Dual Mesa and subject of a very unflattering article Barclay published a week ago.
âLook, Mr. Stern, I-â
âQuiet.â Stern holds up his hand, âI asked Ned to give Q a boost by granting access to the shoot because I think the magazine does excellent work. I asked for you to give you a chance to prove yourself.â
âExcuse me?âÂ
âYour writing is quite good, but clearly your research and fact checking needs some work.â
âJust because you donât like it-â
âI donât, but thatâs not the issue. You published things that are patently false and easily provable as such. For instance, the claim that I got this role by sleeping with the director has two major flaws; one, Ned is not my type.â
âThereâs no accounting for poor taste.â Ned says, clearly unbothered,Â
âAnd two, Mr. Mosche would break my fingers if I tried to fuck his husband.â He points to the corner of the room where a large, tattooed man sits reading.
âRight you are.â He looks up long enough to reply.Â
âAnd anyone on set could have told you that. Whatever your sources were, you didnât do due diligence. So youâll be trying again.â
âLook, buddy, where do you get off giving me orders?â
âBy being the star theyâd have the hardest time killing off.â
âAnd by raising good points.â Ned stands, âasking for a flat retraction would reflect poorly on the show, as it would look as if we were trying to hide the truth. This allows you to correct misconceptions as well as get exclusive looks at next season.â
âYouâre literally a paid actor, how the hell do I know you arenât faking these two weeks?âÂ
âYou wonât be spending all your time with him; youâll be interviewing others as well and have opportunities to observe him without him knowing.â Ned pats Barclays shoulder, âbut he will be responsible for introducing you to the rest of the castâÂ
Barclay glances at Stern, who lifts an eyebrow with a smirk.
âSo. Have fun with that!âÂ
-----------------------------------------
The introduction the next day goes as well as trying to light a match in a hurricane. Stern is polite and professional when Barclay arrives, introduces him to the cast and the main crew without mentioning the article. But itâs clear Barclayâs reputation precedes him.
âYou really got Joe figured all wrong.â Duck Newton, who plays good-hearted Sheriff Frank Roosevelt on the show, pulls Barclay aside as Stern and co-star Aubrey Little (who plays Lucille, a plucky young woman with a dark past) get ready to shoot.Â
âSo everyone keeps saying, but I didnât make that stuff up. It turned up when I researching him.â
âDonât mean someone else didnât just pull it out of their ass.â
âYeah, yeah, I know.â Barclay sighs, rubbing his forehead.Â
âLook, all I know is Joeâs been nothin but kind a professional to me. Iâd even call him a friend. Know he can come off as intimidatin and rigid sometimes, but heâs a good guy.â
Barclay hears variations of this sentiment over and over during the next two days. Itâs part of why heâs currently sitting inside his motel room not far from the main set, eating dinner alone. Indrid, the costume designer had actually invited him to eat with a few members of the crew. Barclay demurred. If the bulk of the people on set think heâs a jerk, he doubts theyâll be that open to getting to know him. Plus, heâs kind of humiliated at how little actual evidence he can find for the claims against Stern, and doesnât want to give the other man a chance to gloat.Â
Thereâs a knock on the door, and he opens it to find the last person he expects, or wants, to see.Â
âGood evening, Barclay.â Out of costume, Stern almost looks ordinary. Thereâs still the unfair symmetry of his face, the way he makes jeans and t-shirt look somehow sophisticated.Â
âUh, something you need from me?â
Stern looks past him to his cobbled together dinner; Barclayâs a good cook, but the damn room doesnât have anything more than a microwave.Â
âThe chance to buy you an actual dinner.â
Barclayâs about to point out that heâs not eating in the commissary tent because of Stern when the actor adds, âplease?â
He grabs his wallet and joins Stern in the still-warm evening air, following him into the few blocks that make up downtown Sagebrush, the former mining town that makes up much of Dual Mesaâs background. He expects them to stop at the Mizpah, the sole fancy hotel and restaurant, but Stern guides him past it and into a kitschy diner.Â
They study their menus in silence, the pleather booths squeaking awkwardly whenever one of them moves.Â
Barclay orders the burger plate that comes with a slice of pie and Stern, surprisingly goes for an omelette off the all-day breakfast menu.
âBarclay I, well, itâs obvious we got off on the wrong foot. I want you to know that as much as the article upset me, I donât want you to be miserable while youâre here. No ones going to shun you for what you wrote.â
âPretty clear theyâre all on your side.â Barclay sips his water, meeting Sternâs gaze.
âThere donât need to be sides; you want to write an accurate profile of what itâs like on set, and I want to not have my name dragged through the mud anymore. Those come out to be the same thing.â
âYou seem real fucking confident.â Barclay narrows his eyes.Â
Sternâs hackles go up, but then he sets his hands on the table with a measured breath, âI donât pretend to be perfect, Barclay. Iâm aware, well aware, of my flaws. But none of those flaws match what you wrote about me. Iâm not asking to look untouchable in your piece, Iâm asking to look like myself.â
Barclay looks down, spots him nervously shredding his napkin. As heâs thinking, a teenager in a tricolor tank-top approaches the table.Â
âUm, sorry, but are you Joseph Stern? The guy who plays agent Hooper?â
Stern smiles, genuine and reassuring, âI am.â
âCould I, uh, get a picture? Like a selfie?âÂ
âOf course.â
Barclay watches Stern pose with the kid and compliment his pride shirt, before waving goodbye as he scurries back to his table to show his friends the photo.
âThat doesnât bother you?â
Stern shakes his head, âIt happens pretty often, especially in town where most people know what I look like in my street clothes, so Iâm used to it. Besides, for a lot of these kids thereâs more than just the celebrity angle. I can count the number of gay, trans, Asian-american actors on T.V when I was kid with one hand,â He holds up a fist to indicate a zero, âif the price of being that person for kids now is posing for some pictures, Iâll pay it any day.â
Warmth blooms in his chest, the sincerity making him want to trade a truth in return, âYeah, I remember looking for guys like me and not seeing them. Iâd just pick a character I liked and kinda projected. Except the X-Files; then I just had a huge fucking crush on Mulder. Oh, thanks.â He smiles at the waitress as she sets his food down.
âI know that feeling. Somewhere there are pictures of me dressed as him for a Halloween party.â
âHeh, I havenât dressed up for Halloween in ages.â Barclay munches on a fry, âLast three times I went as Bigfoot. It was an easy costume and kept my face hidden.â
âThatâs a shame for the other party-goers.â
Barclay coughs, choking on his fry, as Stern blushes, shoves a piece of toast into his mouth, and changes the topic to books.Â
The next day, when Barclay arrives on location and everyone is milling about getting ready to shoot, Stern pats the chair near his own and talks with him until heâs needed on camera. Over the next week, Barclay finds himself next to Stern more often than not, comparing notes on the mystery novels theyâve been passing back and forth, or explaining his job moonlighting as a cookbook editor, or listening to the actor describe his travels to the locations of famous cryptid sightings. What surprises him most is how charming he finds Stern when heâs nowhere near a camera. On set, in character as Special Agent Alex Hooper, he radiates the quiet charm that makes his character so beloved. When theyâre alone itâs different, a little less polished and little nerdier, and rather than captivating him it makes Barclay want to protect him.
It turns out that slips of the tongue happen to Stern a lot, at least when heâs around Barclay. âSecâ routinely becomes âsexâ and comments about Barclayâs size and strength come often, Stern always sheepish afterwards. As if his attention is something Barclay may not want rather than something he craves like a four-course meal.Â
When he starts daydreaming about asking Stern back to his motel room after one of their now-regular dinners together (that Stern always pays for), he knows heâs in trouble.Â
âHelllloo?âÂ
He jumps, chuckles in surprise as Aubrey finishes waving her hand in front of his face, âSorry, was thinking about dinner.â
âI was saying thanks for coming out while we shoot this. I know how hard it can be to pull away from your âmuseâ.â She wiggles her eyebrows and Barclay feels the blush overrun him.Â
âDonât worry, Iâll let him figure it out on his own.â Aubrey winks, the groans, âaw fuck here he comes.â
Robert Hayes, who plays the recurring role of Hooperâs supervisor, appears in the grove where theyâre shooting a scene with just him and Aubrey. Barclay steps out of frame, Aubrey hissing âdonât leave meâ as he does.
âI canât believe Ned is letting Indrid do more alternative looks for you.â
âIt works for Lucille.â
âIt would work better if she was more conventionally attractive.â
Barclay growls under his breath; how dare this guy talk to his friend that way?
âWell, obviously not, because the audience likes me like this. And they have opinions worth listening too.â
The tension remains throughout the shoot, Barclay tensing every time Hayes opens his mouth. He pretends to be busy when the actor comes over to join him.Â
âIâm glad youâre planning on expanding your take-down of Stern.â
âI never said that. Iâm writing about the new season of the show.â
âIf you want more information about what heâs really like, Iâll be happy to chat with you in private.â The older man pats his shoulder and heads off to his trailer.Â
Barclay waits until heâs gone, then goes to look for Ned. He has a hunch the director might like to know about Hayeâs offer.Â
-------------------------------------------
â...guess Ned put him in his place.â Stern finishes adjusting his tie as the scene sets up, âSounds like he wanted his character to become the eventual lead, and thought shit-talking me would be the way to go.â
âIâm glad itâs sorted out.â Barclay pretends to be studying his notes so he doesnât stare too noticeably at Sternâs ass.
âMe too. Thanks, Barclay.â Stern steps onto set, and as Ned begins running through the scene with Stern and the actor playing his (unbeknownst to him) alien lover, Bee, Barclay wishes heâd chosen to be elsewhere. Because this is a sex scene. With Stern. That he will be watching.Â
No, damn it, heâs a professional. His butt is staying in this chair.
He makes it through the several takes of the dialogue just fine, starts sweating a little when he kissing begins. Sternâs kisses strike a balance between tender and passionate, perfectly in character, and Barclay would give his right arm to trade places with Bee.Â
The action moves to the bed, Stern caressing his lover as they unbutton his shirt.
Okay, now heâd give his right arm and leg to be the one beneath him.Â
He reminds himself this airs on TNT, not HBO, so it canât get much more explicit.
Sterns whole body drips with soft dominance as he pins Bee to the bed, cooing that heâs never seen a finer sight.
Fine, his right arm, leg, and any non-vital organs, heâll trade them all in a second to hear Stern say that to him, even if itâs only pretend.Â
He doesnât make it through the second take of the bed scene, hurries away as quietly as unobtrusively as he can. Thereâs no way he can make it to his motel like this, cock pressing so hard against his jeans heâs afraid heâll end up with a zipper mark. And the bathrooms arenât exactly private. He does have the key to Sternâs trailer, the actor having given it to him in case he needed somewhere air conditioned to rest from the heat. The trailer that is very nearby.
Does he dare?
The question hardly registers before heâs at the door, unlocking it and ducking inside before anyone sees. He leans against the counter with a groan, unzipping his pants and praying the pre-cum that immediately streaks his hand hasnât made a noticeable spot in the denim.Â
He fumbles around to find some tissues, not wanting to face the humiliation of Stern walking in to find him cleaning cum off of his cabinets (he does actually want that humiliation, and badly, but not without Sternâs consent).
The strokes are hard and fast, his eyes shut so tight he sees static as he imagines Stern behind him, saying how much he wants him, how needy he is, how heâll take care of him. He grits his teeth, breath leaving him in faint hisses and stifled moans until the temptation to say Sternâs name overwhelms him.Â
âJoe, Joe, fuck, Joe.â
âYes, big guy?â A voice purrs in his ear as hands bracket him against the counter.Â
âFuckâ He tries to freeze, finds heâs shaking too much from want and worry to do so.Â
âYou forgot to lock the door, silly boy. I, however, did not.â
âIâm, Iâm sorry, I just needed to, fuck, I didnât mean for you-â
One hand leaves the counter, strokes the base of his neck and toys with his hair, âwhat about this suggests Iâm angry with this, um, development?â
Barclay whimpers, feet unwilling to turn and look Stern in the eye.
âShould I stop?â The tease goes from his voice.
All he can do is whimper again and shake his head.
The hand leaves his neck, slides down Barclayâs arm to rest atop his hand on the counter. The other takes itâs time snaking down his stomach and hips.
âPoor Barclay, no wonder you had to leave.â His hand nudges Barclayâs aside, takes itâs place around his cock, âyou can probably see this thing from space. Iâm taking this as a testament to my acting skills.â A laugh as he kisses Barclayâs neck, stroking him slowly.Â
âPlease donât say this is acting too.âÂ
âItâs not.â A kiss to his cheek, a twist along his cock, both making him weak-kneed, âdo you know what I was thinking about during that scene? I was thinking about you, what youâd look like if I fucked you. Itâs only a quirk of anatomyâ he grinds against Barclayâs ass, âthat means I didnât have a noticeable reaction on camera.â
âFuck, Joe, more, please I need more of you, all of you, Iâm so fucking close.â
The hand on his cock pulls away, ânot just yet, big guy. Do you want me to fuck you?â
âUhuh.â He whines, pushing his hips forward to bump his cock along Sternâs hand.Â
A light smack on the ass, âbehave. Take everything off and wait for me on the bed.â
âUh huh.â He turns, only for a hand to firmly grasp his chin and force him to stay eye to eye with Stern.
âTry that response again, big guy, with better manners.â
âY-yes, s-sir, I, I understand.âÂ
Heâs yanked into a demanding, possessive kiss, Stern stroking his cheek approvingly when he releases him, âGood boy. Is this alright?â
âYes, yesyes, Joe, please, I love it, donât stop.â
âI wonât, unless you say so. Promise you will if you need to?â
âI swear, cross my heart, babe, please.â
A loving laugh, coupled with a peck on the lips, âbed.â
Barclay strips so quickly he loses his balance, landing on the bed as he fights to pull off his pants. He tries to calm himself by folding his clothes and setting them aside, certain that if he gets more excited heâll become the first confirmed case of human combustion.
âHands and knees, please.âÂ
âOh fuck me.âÂ
Stern is standing by the bed, naked from the waist down save for a strap-on, but still in his special agent clothes from the waist up.Â
âDo you like the suit, big guy?â
âYessir.â
âGood to know. Maybe next time Iâll wear the whole thing while I fuck you. Nowâ he climbs onto the bed, âtry to relax for me.â
A condom-covered finger presses against his ass as soon as heâs on his hands and knees, Stern working him open efficiently yet gently until heâs begging for more. Stern ruffles his hair, and then the toy is pushing into him. Itâs narrow, so the stretch isnât too bad, and for a moment he wonders if it will even do much for him.Â
âLet me see, if I just-â
âFUCKfuckâ The curve of the toy finds his prostate.
âThatâs part of why this is a favorite of mine, itâs so effectiveâ he thrusts harder, âat finding the right spots.â
âMhhhmmmmmâ Barclay bites the pillow to muffle his moans and growls, wiggles his hips as Stern finds his pace.Â
âThe other reason I like itâŚâ
âSHIT, babe, baby, ohfuck thatâs good.â The toy vibrates, sending heat all through him, âfuck, Iâm gonna come in like th-thirty seconds from that.â
âThirty seconds? Letâs see if youâre right, big guy.â
âGaaAAHfuck, Joe, yeah, yeahyesbabeyes.â He gives up on being quiet as the actor rams into him, drops to his elbows when the intensity makes it impossible to anything other than moan and and grunt and take it.Â
âThatâs it, good boy, letâs see just how hard you are for meâ Stern pants as he reaches around, teasing the head of Barclayâs cock, âperfect, youâre doing wonderfully, fuckâ a groan of gratification as Barclay spurts across the bed, âmessy, god I love making you come apart, even I might make you clean that with you tongue later.â
âOh god.â Barclay moans, drool staining the pillow, as Stern loops an arm tightly around his waist and grinds, the toy still bumping and rumbling inside his ass.
âNnn, Barclay, yes, hold out just a little longer, let me get off on this perfect ass.â
Barclay whines, sensitivity overloading his circuits and driving him wild.

âIt wonât fuck up your work?â
âIâll ask Mama what she thinks, we might need to transfer the rest of the article to Thacker. Uh, maybe this is silly but, uh, can I take you to dinner? My treat?â
Stern kisses him, stars in his eyes and a hundred watt smile on his face, âthat sounds perfect, big guy.â

Stowed Vacuums
For most vacuums, you should change or void the sack when it is roughly seventy five percent full. In the event that you stand by excessively long, the hose may obstruct or different pieces of the gadget may not work as proficiently as they should. At the point when this occurs, your vacuum doesn't have the important attractions to clean the manner in which you need it to.
Regardless of what kind of vacuum cleaner you own, it is consistently insightful to watch out for how full the pack or canister is. In the event that it turns out to be excessively full, you will be not able to clean your floors, and sometimes, you may make a much greater wreck as the soil can't enter the vacuum like it should.
5. Spot Treat
13 Vacuum Cleaning Tips for Your FloorsVacuums are not stain executioners. On the off chance that you spill something on your rug, you should treat it promptly to limit the probability of a drawn out stain. At the point when you notice stains on the rug while you are vacuuming, it is a smart thought to treat them with a spot cleaner before you complete the process of vacuuming. This will keep your rug in better condition and improve the aftereffect of your vacuuming endeavors.
Furthermore, on the off chance that you do see stains, regardless of whether new or old, you ought to consider utilizing a steam cleaner to help eliminate a portion of these stains. Spot treating them is the best move, however using steam on those equivalent spots is simply one more instrument to assist you with keeping your rugs perfect and looking great.
6. Eliminate Small Objects From the Floor
I don't know whether this is even a vacuum cleaning tip, or simply presence of mind⌠But, in spite of the conspicuousness of this tip, I actually feel committed to add it to the rundown just in the event that anyone had any questions.
Before you start vacuuming your floors, try to get all the messiness and eliminate the little items from the floor. Not exclusively will this make it simpler for you to clean the floors, yet it will likewise keep these littler articles from stalling out in the vacuum. On the off chance that they do stall out, you could demolish your vacuum or break an inner part. Not exclusively will this lead to more concerning issues, it will likewise keep you from really eliminating all the soil and residue.
7. Move the Furniture Occasionally
Bigger things like furniture are normally fine to leave set up while you are vacuuming. All things considered, it wouldn't bode well to move everything in and around your home every week for an adequate clean. While that would help keep your home cleaner, it is anything but a doable answer for a great many people.
Nonetheless, every so often you might need to consider moving the love seat or end table so you can vacuum underneath those difficult to arrive at places in high-traffic regions of your home. In the event that you can't move these bigger parts of furniture, take a stab at utilizing one of the frill that accompanies your vacuum cleaner to suck up a portion of that residue or flotsam and jetsam that has amassed.
8. Pick the Right Setting
One tip that will enable numerous individuals to vacuum their floors all the more adequately, is to ensure that you pick the correct setting on your gadget. Many vacuum cleaners have various settings that permit you to modify it dependent on a superficial level you are cleaning.
In the event that you have shaggy rug, you will need to utilize an unexpected setting in comparison to in the event that you were cleaning hardwood floors. The settings on your vacuum cleaner ought to be balanced dependent on the tallness of the surface in which you are cleaning. By altering this stature, you will guarantee that you get the best attractions and, eventually, clean your floors in a more effective way.
Remember that the tallness of your floors will probably differ all through your home. In the event that you have various kinds of deck in your home, you will need to consider modifying the settings as you vacuum your home. Regardless of whether it's a region mat or tiled floor, simply ensure that you have the most ideal attractions.
9. Profound Cleans Are Helpful
Indeed, even homes that are vacuumed routinely can profit by an intermittent profound clean. This would comprise of an exhaustive cleaning with either steam or cleanser⌠or perhaps both.
By giving your rug a profound clean, you will help slacken up and dispense with the earth that has developed in the filaments of your rug. After you give your rugs a profound clean, you will probably see that it is simpler to vacuum. This is on the grounds that the floor is cleaner, and the earth being sucked up has not implanted itself into the strands of your rug yet. Moreover, subsequent to giving your floor covering a profound clean, you ought to unequivocally consider following a customary vacuuming plan.
Another tip: Before you cleanser your rugs, regardless of whether you do it without anyone's help or recruit an organization, ensure you vacuum up however much earth as could reasonably be expected. The more earth and residue you can vacuum up before steaming or shampooing your floor covering, the cleaner your rugs will be at long last.

A few regions of your house are more hard to vacuum. A portion of these incorporate the storage room or steps. While it might be enticing to rapidly clean these zones, it is regularly better to zero in a greater amount of your time on them, particularly if these difficult to-clean territories get a ton of traffic.
At the point when you are vacuuming the steps, we would suggest utilizing the connections on your vacuum. DEATH BATTLE Review: Ben 10 vs Green Lantern
Two guardians of the universe, clad in green. Though, one will be going home in blood-red stained clothes.
So, apparently the reason itâs not Ben 10 vs. Beast Boy is because Ben just outclasses Beast Boy with his variety of aliens.
Ben 10â˛s Preview.
Benjamin Kirby Tennyson started out as just your average ten-year old kid. But on a strange day for his summer vacation, an alien device did what it did, and stuck itself on his wrist with secrets that it hid. Now heâs got super powers, heâs no ordinary kid, heâs Ben 10!
Look, the theme song is catchy. It would be a crime not to reference it in some way.
Anyways, the alien device was the Omnitrix, a portable library that houses all sorts of alien DNA. It allows Ben to âCheck outâ an alien to transform into and use their superpowers.
From aliens that can control water, ice, electricity, and fire, Benâs got it all. And if he finds an alien that isnât in the library, the Omnitrix will scan and replicate the DNA, allowing Ben to have another alien to use.
(Ignore that timebar at the bottom. I thought I had cropped it out).
Though, the Omnitrix has numerous defenses to fight back against anyone who wants to take it from Benâs wrist.
With all those superpowers, Ben also has aliens for smarts as well. Including Brainstorm, an alien who has an I.Q of one nonillion. Thatâs a one, followed byâŚ
THAT many zeros. And still not enough to beat out EXEâs record of highest number ever recorded.
But if Ben wants to just suck, he can turn into Walkatrout⌠Who is a fish⌠with legs.
Itâs easily his worst alien. And thatâs saying a lot, considering he has an alien literally named âThe Worst.â
Though, if Ben wants some refinement, he can turn into Molestache. Boomstickâs favorite alien, who does fisticuffs with his moustache.
The Omnitirx is easily one of the most powerful tools ever created. And apparently⌠Boomstick has one?
But if thereâs ever a weakness of the Omnitrix, it would probably be the cooldown timer.
⌠Which is thankfully negated with Master Control, giving Ben unlimited access to everything.
But, there is one alien that blows the rest of them out of the water. Alien X.
Alien X is a Celestialsapien, a being that exists beyond the universe, and has control over all of reality. It even once survived the universe being destroyed by the Ahnialarg, and then recreated it. Hell! Alien X didnât just survive the Universe being destroyed, he basically didnât even notice!
HA! now we beat EXEâs record! Alien X managed to survive an event worth 4x10^69 Joules of energy!
Ben even managed to get past the âNeeds to come to a unanimous decisionâ thing later on, making Alien X the most powerful being in his universe.
And as Alien X, Ben has managed to fly fast enough to create a black hole.
If there was ever any real weakness that Ben himself has, it would be his immaturity. Sure, heâs pretty great at ingenuity and thinking on his feet, but for a long time, Ben was pretty immature, and has a bit of an ego.
But when lives are on the line, you can set your clocks. Because there would be only one time it could be.
HERO TIME!
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)â˛s Preview.
Hal Jordan was just your average devilishly handsome Military Test Pilot. Until the day that destiny fell from the sky (sound familiar?).
Upon investigating an alien crash landing, HAl Jordan found Abin Sur, an alien being who had a powerful device known as a Green Lantern Ring. This device belonged to a group of protectors known as the Green Lantern Corps.
The Lanterns are essentially like space cops, and the universe is divided into sectors. Halâs sector is designated Sector 2814, and he was given the prestigious job of Green Lantern.
The GL Power Ring is the ultimate weapon against those who worship evilâs might. It has a variety of tools to help with a fight.
Think of the Power Ring as the ultimate Swiss-Army Knife. Now think of that thing on steroids. Now think of those steroids as also being on steroids. Now think of the Swiss-Army Knife as having special treatment so as it doesnât die from those steroids, add some more steroids, then times a thousand.
It gives Hal a bunch of different powers. From time travel, to matter manipulation, to phasing through objects, to a powerful shield.
It can also protect his mind.
And Hal can also reasonably scale to other Lanterns, like the time when Kilowog survived the Crisis on Infinite Earths event.
With all this power, you gotta be wondering: What the hell does this thing run on? And the answer is willpower. Part of the emotional spectrum that makes up sentient life.
Red is linked to rage, Orange to greed, Yellow to fear, Green to willpower, Blue to hope. Indigo to compassion, and Violet to love (This isnât actually mentioned in the episode, but I thought Iâd mention it here).
And Hal is definitely a powerful Green Lantern. LikeâŚ
With all that power, that definitely solidifies Hal as being the most powerful Green Lantern. It also means that he can irrefutably scale to other Lanterns.
Hal also could move from the center of the universe to a planet in moments.
This puts Hal in the high-end of the spectrum.
And being so fast that you nearly enter the Speed Force is all kinds of impressive for someone not connected to it.
And one time, Hal was without his ring. Meaning that he had to fly a ship moving faster than light on his own.
That is to say that Hal managed to avoid stars, planets, without the ring helping him.
And as a being who defeated the physical embodiment of willpower with his own willpower, Hal can do things that other Green Lanterns can do.
Green Lantern Kyle Rayner once survived the Big Bang, since Hal did that previous thing, itâs reasonable to say that Hal can do the same.
But the ring arenât perfect. They do have a limited power source, and the constructs are limited to the userâs imagination and confidence in themselves. If they arenât confident enough, they lose their will.
But thereâs also a really big elephant in the room. An elephant painted yellow.
Thankfully, this was done because Paralax had corrupted the Green Battery, and is now a non-issue. Not that it compares to the weakness of Alan Scott, who had a weakness to wood.
But Hal is one of the best. Be it brightest day, or blackest night, no evil will escape his sight. Let those who worship evilâs might, beware his powerâŚ
GREEN LANTERNâS LIGHT!
(Thatâs not the end quote, so I figured that Iâd put it here).
The Battle Itself.
Zack and Luis (Animation director) on animation, Ben will be voiced by Nicholas Andrew Louie and Green Lantern will be voiced Bradley Gareth. , Jerky on sprites, Therewolf on music (Emerald Warriors), and audio is led by Chris Kokkinos.
So, as we know from the preview, Hal tries to take in Ben for having a âClass Aâ Superweapon, and Ben fights back. Which immediately makes this one of the better stories around, as it fits both characters and their roles very well.
⌠Iâll put the reason why some people were put off by the use of kid Ben sprites in the âOverall Impressionâ part. Meanwhile, letâs look at this hand-drawn animation of Ben going Fourarms!
But, given that Hal has handled stronger blows before, he takes it in stride. Leaving Ben to go for Heatblast.
And one explosion later, Ben boasts that he could possibly beat Hal with Grey Matter⌠Which he turns into. But he quickly recovers and goes big. Way Big.
Hal, obviously not impressed, creates a meteor to smash Way Big with. So Ben brings out the big guns.
Behold! Alien X!
The fight is taken to space, where Alien X opts to just erase Hal.
But, as he possesses a device that lets him take a retcon to the face, Hal doesnât break.
So Ben goes for a swarm tactic and tries to break Halâs shield.
Hal recites his Lantern Oath to break free and summon a weapon to attack with.
This attack works, but Alien X rewinds time to knock Hal back.
He politely reminds Hal of a thing that he forgot about.
Which means that finishing blow in 5âŚ
4âŚ
3âŚ
2âŚ
1âŚ
I wonder if that was a size ten sorrynotsorry.
I canât tell if Present!Hal is talking about the battle wounds that he has, or the one-liner he made, and Iâm okay with that.
Verdict + Explanation.
So, right off the bat, one of Benâs biggest advantages was his absurd versatility in his transformations and his ingenuity. But Hal outclassed him in many areas.
Sure Ben has an absurd amount of versatility, but hereâs the thing: He can only use one alien at a time. Whereas Hal has his whole package in his one little ring.
Essentially, even with Master Control, Ben is always playing catch up. Fourarms and Way Big are strong, but not on the level of what Hal regularly faces. Diamondhead is tough, but not planet busting tough. XLR8 is fast, but- You get the picture, right?
Alien X was really Benâs best shot at winning. But Hal has not only fought alongside allies with that kind of power (Like Dr. Fate), but heâs also fought against that (Like Darkseid).
And even then, Alien X is still vulnerable to damage (albiet, it has to be super absurd). Benâs own fight with the Galactic Gladiator proves that Celestialsapiens can still lose fights. And the fact that Alien X failed to stop the Anihilaarg was because Ben was busy arguing with the other two personalities about what to do. In other words, Alien X isnât omnipotent.
Thereâs also no real evidence to suggest that Alien X could resist anything that Hal could either. Benâs versatility put up quite the fight, but it wasnât enough to match Green Lanternâs speed, strength, durability, tools, and literal willpower.
And donât be green with envy. That pun was Ten out of Bens⌠Yes, these are all of Boomstickâs puns.
Overall impression.
7.8/10.
Overall, the fight is impressive. There are great hand-drawn moments in it, though I do have to knock some points for using Kid Ben sprites. Not only does the voice sound more appropriate for a teenager, these guys went on about how if the had âtrimmed down Ben to his original 10-15, then it would be more fair of a fight to put him up against Beast Boy.â- Thatâs stuff that would lead people to think âOh. So theyâre going to use teenage Ben sprites.â This isnât like using younger sprites of Jotaro or Naruto. The big heads never said anything about how âIf we had used pre-Kurama friendship Naruto, then pitting him against Luffy would be fairâ they just went straight into the battle due to power levels.
In short: Had they not made a big deal about it, then this wouldnât be a problem.
Also, I think thereâs a valid criticism about them primarily pulling from the classic-era aliens and only having Alien X from the AF/UA be the only one not from that era. Like⌠would have using Humungousaur instead of Fourarms been too much?- What about Atomix from Omniverse?- Heâs delightfully hammy.
But, I canât blame them for using so few. It would be a pain to try and animate all those alien forms.
But the spritework is nice, the research is solid, and it has great moments and callbacks to each characterâs respective series. So it gets points for that.

Robin Lord Taylor, the third actor to play famous Batman villain The Penguin, talks to us about finding his confidence as an artist, his creative family in Gotham, his independent film work out of it, plus waddling in the footsteps of Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito.
It's the first morning of this year's Heroes & Villains Fan Fest at Olympia London, and with press access I am able to take in the calm before the impending storm. Not the storm that will rock the city later that evening, but the imminent opening of the floodgates through which thousands of genre TV fans will pour.
Fans that have been drawn, in no small part, to the attendance of Robin Lord Taylor, who stars as The Penguin, aka Oswald Cobblepot, in TV hit Gotham. The character is one of Batman's most iconic enemies, played previously as a sneering caricature by Burgess Meredith in the 60s BatmanTV show, then physically grotesque and almost inhuman by Danny DeVito in 1992's Batman Returns. It is Taylor's very human and nuanced portrayal of the character that has seen him become one of the series most stand out turns.
As such, crowds lined up early to meet the star, many dressed up in full Oswald regalia and some of whom he has time to greet before he's torn away to chat to me (sorry everyone). He arrives in the press room buoyed by the morning's reception and I ask what it was like landing the role of such a well-known character.
"The role of "The Penguin" has just been such an amazing experience in so many ways, but mostly because the range of emotion that he goes through, it's the entire spectrum. I just feel confident now and not afraid. I feel like the best work I've ever done is coming up. It's really exciting. From the way they had already cast Gotham, I just knew it would always be me [chuckles]. I've never really felt that way at auditions, but I knew after the Gotham audition, I was like, "I think it's mine." [chuckles]. I had that feeling. Then talking to the executive producers, they were like, "The second you walked in the room, we were like, 'It's you'. It's incredible." My life has changed completely."
Far from a mere foil to pit against Gotham's caped crusader - albeit a teenage one - this Penguin, like many of the villains in the show, is often seen to be a victim of tragedy and injustice that goes on to form the famous alter-ego. One story-line in particular [SPOILER ALERT}, involving an unrequited love between Penguin and The Riddler, confirmed the shows willingness to give these characters a unique, fresh and modern take. Is this something he knew was planned from the beginning?
"I had no idea, I really didn't know. I don't know if they knew. I feel so fortunate in so many ways. Bringing the human experience to these larger than life characters has just been incredible. To find that common thread in these characters that have been around for 70-80 years, it's just been so great. Again, to be able to show certain aspects to these characters that people haven't really seen or thought about before has been probably my favourite thing about the experience. When you're an actor, that's the good stuff. I'm only the third "Penguin" on screen, which is great because I don't have the pressure of trying to live up to anything that's happened before. Not just that I'm the third one, it's such a departure from what Danny DeVito did, and then also what Burgess Meredith did, and so, I don't feel like I have to live up to what they did. Those guys are geniuses. That was nice and not having that pressure was great. Also, just to be one of the first major villains that launched from the pilot episode is just an amazing feeling. I'm just so grateful to be able to colour with all the crayons in the crayon box.
There is a pitch perfect cast that makes up the entire roster of Gotham's main characters, each bringing their own uniqueness to some well-worn roles. One of those is Ben Mackenzie, playing James Gordon, who has also directed episodes of the show. Taylor has nothing but good things to say about his experience of a cast-mate slipping into the director's chair.
"It was fantastic. Again, because he's an actor, he's so much more direct with us in a way. It's so much easier for him to get the kind of performance that he wants out of us because he knows us all so well. We're like a family. We all love each other. To have him behind the camera, he'd give this look at me and say maybe two words and I know exactly where he's going and what he wants. It's a really fantastic experience. [With guest directors] the great thing is that they really encourage us to make these characters ours and to just own it. Also, because I've been playing the character and it's been 88 episodes now or something, every once in a while, as the years go along, there'll be something in a scene and I'll have to remind the director, "Two years ago in season two, I did this thing, so that's not going to work because of that." I'm able to remind everybody where the character has been and all of the directors have come through really appreciate that. Because again, I know it better than anyone else does in some ways."
Where that familiarity with his role and working with the team on Gotham gets tested, is during the hiatus between series when Taylor has had the opportunity to sign on to independent feature film projects.
"It's daunting at first, but then at the same time I really look forward to any sort of opportunity to play a different character. I get afraid sometimes that I'll lose my job. "Oh, my God. Am I only ever going to do this? Do I know how to get through this?" Then going to these other films, especially because they're low budget, it just feels very creatively fulfilling in so many ways. I've been really lucky in the sense that I've been able to nail down a couple of independent features over the hiatus, which was really nice. I love it so much because it's the antithesis of Gotham. Gotham is a machine in the best way, but it's like multi-cameras, and it's very specific about the angles and the lighting, and everything is just super-designed to the moment. To be able to go on to an independent set where things are more freeing and open, it's amazing."
There are three films that look to all be approaching completion around the same time. Those are The Long Home, Full-Dress and The Mandela Effect.
"I did The Long Home first and that was directed by James Franco. We shot in Ohio, and it was a really, really crazy set. I really had no idea what to expect when I walked on to that set. At one point, I didn't even know where the camera was. He kept a very free-flowing, open environment on that set, which was, again, fun because it was so much different from Gotham.
After that was Full-Dress, which was an amazing experience because the director really attempted to shoot without any cuts so that it feels like a continual moment, which was really exciting because, again, it's so different from Gotham and it feels like a play in a way. We would do these scenes that just flow into one another, and so, you're doing the entire scene in one take without any coverage. It was a really fascinating experience because it's almost like choreography because as we talked, the camera had to find us, but we also had to find the camera, [all with] zero time and zero money. Everywhere we shot was basically a favor [chuckles]. It was really an amazing experience. I just talked to the director, Carlos Puga, and he says it's wrapping up, so it's almost out which is really fun and exciting.
Then, The Mandela Effect was directed and written by my good friend, David Guy Levy, who directed another independent film that I did some years ago called Would You Rather. It's a horror film. He wrote this. My other friend, Charlie Hofheimer, who is also the lead, was also in Would You Rather, so it was like coming-back-together-with-family moment."
One of the best things about these projects for Taylor is not always having to audition, and instead receiving straight offers. It's a testament to his work on Gotham and having the opportunity to display such a dynamic range, that these projects are now coming to him. But what about his own projects? In another interview earlier this year he talked about his desire to move in to producing. He already has a project in mind and credits his experience on Gotham for instilling in him the confidence to take it on.
"I'm working on producing. My sister is a novelist and I'm adapting one of her novels for screen. It's been with my good friend, Ashley Hudson, who I met through Gotham, actually. It's really exciting. I never thought of it as a possibility. Now and again, I just see all these opportunities now that I just want to take advantage of. It really is just confidence. It's just like being able to walk into a room and know that I belong there, and I deserve to be heard, and I have a voice. I have my own agency now. I found it within myself and that's been the best lesson ever. We're so fortunate with Gotham in the sense that the cast just really feels like a family. Going forward, I know that that's the vibe that I want to recreate on the set. I want to have that feeling where even though, for Gotham, it's a multi-million dollar budget thing, superheroes and stuff, but at the end of the day, it feels like a community theater [chuckles]. It still feels like we're a bunch of people coming together to play. I think that's why the show is just so vibrant and beautiful."
And with that, our whirlwind 13-minutes is up. He returns to the waiting fans at his table eager to meet the man who really has made the Penguin fly.

Unexpectedly Expecting
Gattiusâ old bedroom had changed over the last few weeks. The bed no longer saw many sleeping patrons, instead serving now as an exam bench of sorts. Free closet space opened up room for books, notes, and all manner of medical supplies. He had moved his leisurely items out as well, clearing his desk space for a laboratory expansion. It was an idea he had for some time, but never enacted because there was never room for it. At least, not any room he had access to. The basement wouldâve worked well, but Tannis locked it away before his passing. Just as well - from what heâd been told, the basement housed nothing but knicknacks and junk. Typical for a basement. Still, Gattius wondered why Tannis never thought to set up at least one room in his manor as a small exam room. Perhaps he didnât care to bring his work home with him. Either way, Gattius saw the merit of it. And now that heâd moved in with Syrielle, it was the perfect opportunity to turn his old room into a makeshift infirmary, right here on the Manor grounds!
âI donât know why yer botherinâ, lad.â Alteris chuckled, leaning idly up against one of the bookshelves as he sharpened his blade. âWhat else could it be?â
By some miracle, Gattius managed to pull a blood sample from Syrielle just a day prior. She hated needles; there was no way sheâd let him take a blood sample, even if it were to test her for biological anomalies. Specifically, in this case⌠pregnancy.
âCould be a dozen things, Alt.â Gattius replied aloud to his imaginary friend. âStill could be mana deficiency. Or some kind of virus she picked up on Argus. Hell, it could be a stomach ulcer, blood sugar deficiency, abnormal menopause, or even a parasite.â
âItâs a parasite, alright - one you put in âer!â Alteris laughed.
âBah, shut up! Weâll know soon enough.â
The beakers were set, mixtures stable. Carefully, he pulled the syringe of Syrielleâs blood out from his medical pack. There was enough, thankfully, to conduct three conservative tests. The first, obviously, would be a pregnancy test. But the results of it would take longer to manifest. So while he waited, he decided to do two more - a standard, wide-spectrum wellness check, and a cell/mana-cohesion test to indicate if her body retained the same magical potential it always had. Thankfully, he had a pretty extensive medical record on Syrielle for comparison. He rationed out the blood samples, and got to work. Each mixture was set relatively easy. Now, all he had to do was wait.
âStill canât believe she lied to you about those herbsâŚâ
âIâm sure she didnât.â Gattius frowned. âTheyâre not one-hundred percent effective.â
âAye, unless you take âem, theyâre ZERO percent effective!â another boisterous laugh.
Gattius sighed, shaking his head. A part of him did worry that perhaps Syrielle wasnât entirely truthful with him. He never verified, that first time or any subsequent time. More often than not, heâd just assume. But she wouldnât lie about something like that⌠with all the partners sheâs had over the years, and no children to show for it⌠surely she took precautions. What if she forgot one time? Or maybe a lingering effect of the curse caused her to believe she had?
âWhat if her contraceptive plan was entirely post-conception?â
Gattius frowned deeper. Thatâd be horribly irresponsible. There were ways, of course. But like many other things, it was much easier and safer to prevent than to treat. Syrielle wouldnât be so cavalier with her body like thatâŚ
â... Would she?â he asked himself, with a sigh.
âItâd be a simple thing for a mage, lad. Abra-cadabra, Fetus Deletus!â Alteris proclaimed, waving his dagger around as if it were a wand.
â--Not Syrie!â Gattius barked. âShe knows better. Dr. Starfrost mustâve had dozens of talks about this with her, all growing up. I incited a few of them, myself, with all the little pranks Iâd pull on her. She wouldnât use such a dangerous method.â
He turned, seeing one of the tests conclude. The beaker of solution bubbled for a moment, before calming - the mixture turning a clear pinkish hue. He nodded, smiling, as he flipped open his notepad.
âPatientâs wide-spectrum returned no abnormalitiesâŚâ he said aloud, as he normally did conducting such tests. âTraces of hormone supplements manifested. So there - she is taking the herbs.â
He smiled proudly, writings filling the page with additional details such as time, date, and others. A good start, at least. She was healthy, using the right methods, and most importantly, telling the truth. Of course, that meant it was either mana deficiency, orâŚ
âFine, so she was takinâ them.â Alteris conceded. âCould somethinâ counteract them? Undo them, yâknow?â
âHmâŚâ Gattius hadnât considered that. âItâs possible. The herbs and teas increase hormone levels to close off the uterus. That prevents the pregnancy. But⌠itâs possible something she ate or drank could counteract those effects.â
âSomethinâ on Argus, perhaps?â
Gattius shook his head.
âNo, no, the only thing there would be fel contaminant. That doesnât affect hormone levels. And even if it did, I--â
A thought struck him; a medical procedure heâd use to mend biological anomalies. Something standard practice for him when tending patients. Something heâd employed for recreational useâŚ
â... The Light.â he gasped. âWhen I used the Light on her⌠it wouldâve reset her biological systems to their natural state. And using it so close to her uterus⌠mustâve reopened it.â
âSo yer lilâ Light-show foreplay undid her contraceptives?â Alteris grinned.
Gattius swallowed hard. â... I think maybe it did.â
Alteris erupted, laughing hysterically. Gattius, however, did NOT find it funny in the least! ...Well, perhaps a little funny. His efforts to bring a little more excitement to the bedroom had backfired. He brought his hands to his face, and groaned. A bubbling hiss interrupted his dreaded moping, however - the second test was complete. He sat up, and inspected the second sample. The liquid sparked, this time, turning a deep blue - as deep a blue as heâd ever seen!
â--Well⌠her cell/mana cohesionâs as strong as ever.â he sighed, picking up his notebook again. âPatient exhibits exceptional cell/mana potential. No depreciation of Arcane affinity.â
âDoesnât leave much else it could be, eh?â Alteris grinned.
Gattius sighed. Signs pointed more and more to Syrielle being pregnant. And to make it worse, he was pretty sure it was all his fault. He watched the pregnancy test, anxiously waiting out the last few minutes before it would either confirm or disprove his hypothesis. Most likely confirm.
âWhatâre you gonna tell her, lad?â
âI donât knowâŚâ Gattius sighed. âWhat should I tell her? Sheâll find out I took a blood sample, first of all. Canât imagine sheâll be thrilled about that. Then I have to tell her I unwittingly cancelled out her tried-and-true contraceptive method⌠and got her pregnant!â
He collapsed back into his chair with a sigh, throwing his head back against the headrest. What a mess.
â... WellâŚâ Alteris began, stepping off from the bookshelf. âIs it really so bad, this?â
âWhat do you mean? Of course itâs bad!â Gattius frowned deeper. âWe didnât plan for this. Weâre not ready for this. Fuck, I havenât even proposed to her yet!â
âFolks have kids together out of marriage all the time, lad.â
âI donât know if sheâs ready! I donât know if Iâm ready! This is a huge deal, Alt!â
âOh, get it together, you drama whore!â Alteris scolded him. âWorst case, you terminate it and learn a valuable lesson about gettinâ kinky with the Light!â
Gattius sat up, brow raised at Alteris as he spoke.
âBest case⌠sheâs thrilled about it. You two get married, spawn the youngling, live that happy, picturesque life yâve always wanted.â
The last vial fizzed, indicating it was done. Gattius turned quick, and watched in eager anticipation. The liquids continued to fizz, mellowed out, and turned bright yellow. Tentatively, Gattius reached for the vial, and gave it a light swirl. The color remained. There was no doubt about it now.
â... Sheâs pregnant.â
âTold yeh.â
Gattius opened his notes, and jotted down the results.
âPatient⌠is shown to be with child.â he said aloud, before pausing.
A smile tugged at the corner of his lips. Despite the headache, heartache, or great confusion this could easily cause him⌠he made a person with the woman he loved. And try as he did, he couldnât be entirely upset about it. He gave in, grinning as he finished his notes.
âI, uh⌠Iâm gonna go tell her, yeah?â he said.
âThink you ought to, lad. Iâll wait here.â Alteris joked.
Gattius rose from his seat, and headed out the door. His stomach churned, from excitement and dread both. He walked down the hall, and towards the bedroom where Syrielle was. Stopping just shy of the door, he took a deep breath.
âHere goesâŚâ

Well I promised myself I would do something special for 400 views. I figure if you keep coming back I should thank people for their support. So before I launch into my treat I want to make sure to say:Â
If you are looking for a sound track for the Fiction please see after the cut!Â
Also Link to the fan fic here
When I write part of my pre-prep is to make a music list for various scenes and characters. Like an inspiration board. That way I can sort of get a flow to the typing I am doing, or if I feel stuck I can get myself unstuck by listening to the music and getting back in the scene.Â
I never liked when people put in little stop breaks into fiction, it often breaks the immersion for me, but I also sometimes wish I could just insert a sound track into the page you are looking that will fade in and out as you scroll down the screen.Â
So in the vein I have sort of organized the songs I listen to into a curated list. This is the âsound trackâ for the general feel for Shards of Power : Awakening. Iâve given some small commentary about each song, and they are in some âorderâ. All of these are available on spotify.Â
Shards of Power: Awakening- A âmixtapeâ.Â
1. There is a war going on for your mind - FlobotsÂ
The Seers, who you will be meeting very soon, are the True Villains of our setting. They are the men and women who control everything we interact with on day to day basis. The Concillium fight against them, and this small interlude is something I feel that the Free council broadcast, hoping that someone out there still cares enough to listen. I mentally call my music â Musutafu Awakened Radioâ because I like to pretend that Zero is broadcasting this to try to find someone he is desperate to awaken.Â
2. Defend Atlantis -FlobotsÂ
This ultimately is the explanation of the world. Itâs got some really excellent segments that explain the Orders best.. Itâs like this entire thing was custom built for the World of Darkness. The relevant segments are as follows :Â
Free Council - From â We flow like waterâ To â Many tales radiate from one nexus.â The Free council is the counter cultural revolution, and they believe that Humans, more than anything, hold the key to magic. They reject the idea that a chosen few know the truth and believe that the many tales people tell all reflect the true world in some way.Â
Mysterium- From âThat which creates Lifeâ To â with nothing left to plunder â. The Mysterium is the idea that one should be beholden not to a faction but to the Truth of the world. They are the âmad Scientistâ Mage that is determined to make the world better through finding the scraps of magic and figuring out how to recreate them. They want to do this to save the world from itâs fate.Â
Sliver Ladder- From âFor Centuriesâ to The most diverse aversions when I first channelâ. The Silver Ladder are corporatism incarnate, but they believe that stories, laws, and history make magic, and that upholding them and being judged not on merit alone is ultimate way to unite people. Â
The Adamantine Arrow - From â Is that all you hold for a warriors rollâ to â Only sea to shining sea.â The Arrow are incredibly service oriented and see themselves as the point of last defense. They believe that they as mages should not rule but serve as a defense for Sleepers until the world becomes one.
The Guardians- From âAnd survival hinged on the ascent by the humbleâ to â And the voices were many but we spoke as one â. The Guardians are a hard group to understand, but they believe that the world is by nature corrupt and corrupts those around them. They believe magic needs to be controlled and placed in the right hands, and that they stand as a guardian against the corruption. They believe that if they stand their ground and route out corruption they can help make sure the right people get in place to storm the gates.Â
3.Farthest star - VnV nationÂ
This is the awakening song for every path, though I most often place Obrimos under this particular song. Itâs very broad and light and hopeful in a way that the act of Awakening is.Â
4. Handlebars -FlobotsÂ
The feeling of doing anything that comes after awakening is something every mage goes through. Having access to the unlimited cosmic power of the universe is a hell of rush, but the problem is the crash. You canât get enough to do what really matters, and you could destroy the world in trying to save it.Â
5. Uprising - MuseÂ
The understanding that their limits are imposed by the world around them and the Archmages that inhabit the Supernal world created this world leads most Concillium mages to feel like they need to rebel. The alienation of know you could have the power promised of people werenât keeping it from you is what drives many of even the oldest mages.Â
6. Freak Radio Edit - Timmy Trumpet
The Concilium is a group of people who reject the world around them and they tend to connect over their feeling of being freaks. Itâs a fun song, and I like to think that Zero has done that one âWhen X isnât homeâ Tictok thing with Deku once.Â
7. Shatter me- Lindsey Sterling
As a mage grows in power it tends to have a feeling of being locked into place. More often than not they are kept in control by those around them but they are acutely aware that â If I break the glass, then I'll have to fly //There's no one to catch me if I take a dive â
8. A Moment of Silence- Streetlight manifesto
Mages often come to a point where they begin to doubt if they can throw out the Archmages in the Supernal world, if they can make it work. They regret having lost the comfort of being a sleeper. And they realize quickly that Casting isnât always what they want to be...Â
9. My Demons - StarsetÂ
Casting has a down side, it opens you out into the open for the Abyss to feed off your magic and infect you. If you cast enough in a reckless way you can eventually become tainted by the abyss. You can break in ways that can kill yourself, or worse make you turn your powers on everything around you.Â
10. Iâm Alive -Becca
And yet you have to keep going, because you are are there, and you have to fight, even if everything goes wrong, because refusing to give in is what being awakened is.Â
11. We are Giants - Lindsey SterlingÂ
And when a group of them struggle, when they connect and find themselves in the same path as those who understand them they can do anything. Also this is a fun song and I love the music video that goes along with it.Â
12. Warriors- Imagine Dragons.Â
Another song about gathering together to do good, with the understanding that sacrifices will happen but that if one day it changes the world itâs worth it.Â
13. One for the Money- Escape the FateÂ
The marching song for those who want to change that world. For some reason it lets me imagine mages all charging upwards across the abyss, spells going off.Â
14. A moment of Violence- Streetlight Manifesto
This is a good wrapping point, and I like the ending trumpets fading back into the first song. Itâs an awesome transition.Â
Bonus for having 42 kudos (because that is the answer to Life the universe and everything) Iâve included some background music that I use for fight scenes and exciting moments that donât fit the over all mage theme:Â
1. Strange Games- Tsubasa Reservoir ChroniclesÂ
I love this techno beat with the psychedelic sound and flutes. Itâs very much what I listen to when I type for the Southern Courts or more fantastical moments. It also doubles as any time we have Bakugo on stage fighting.Â
2. Song of storm and Fire - Tsubasa Reservoir ChroniclesÂ
This is my fight music song, coupled with the next few. Itâs very broad and powerful, the vocals adding a sort of angelic sense to the pounding beat, and the slow soft break half way through the song is always mentally a âfreeze frameâ for me.  Normally matched to fights involving Izuku.Â
3. Break the Sword of Justice- Tsubasa Reservoir ChroniclesÂ
Do you all see a pattern here? If you want some top tier music that you can type to that isnât lyric driven you want Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles osts. Sadly Spotify and a lot of other places donât like giving us access them. Oh well I get at them.Â
Heavier than itâs prior counter part it is a lot of thrumming strings and frantic movement. I like to think of this as Kirishimaâs music for fighting.
I donât actually have an instrumental for Todoroki yet, but To be honest heâs probably some epic japanese peice I havenât heard yet.Â
4. Finally This song mix. Yes this is Gravity falls but the two songs are perfect for angst. Give the artist some love! Â
Thank you again for reading and Thank you again for your kind words and attentions. I will have the next chapter out!Â
And if you want specific Sound tracks please feel free to ask!Â

Looking for winter gloves that keep your hands warm and dry and are made with quality to last for years? As a professional gear reviewer who gets cold hands easily and spends many days outside in winter, from skiing in all of its forms to bike commuting, trail running, and working outside, Iâve used many types of gloves. Iâve learned a lot over the years about how to select gloves and which models perform best for specific uses. This review covers the best gloves Iâve found for winter, in several styles and degrees of warmth, for outdoor recreation as well as doing any kind of work outside. Iâm confident youâll find a pair here that meet your needs.
I tested the gloves reviewed below in a wide range of temperatures from the high 30s Fahrenheit to below-zero wind chills, and in snowstorms, cold rain, graupel, and most other forms of frozen water that fall from the sky, as well as the liquid kind. I used these gloves on numerous days of backcountry skiing, skate skiing, ski touring, and resort skiing, on multi-day, backcountry yurt trips, and spring mountaineering in the mountains of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and California.
Iâve also, of course, used many of these gloves shoveling snow and doing outdoor chores in winter, and biking around town in cold temps.
Scroll down past the tips on how to choose gloves if you want to jump directly into the product reviews.
Besides coming in a range of prices and styles, the gloves reviewed below have different strengths and weaknesses, making each better for varying activities and circumstances, which I specify in each review. Iâd love to see your observations about any of these glove models, or others you like; please make them in the comments section at the bottom of this review.

Iâve divided the reviews below into two categories:
1.   Under-the-cuff gloves, which have shorter, closer-fitting gauntlets designed to be worn under a jacket cuff. They vary in degree of warmth and dexterity, but (with just a couple of exceptions among those reviewed here) are usually less warm and expensive and more dexterous than over-the-cuff gloves. They are typically used for high-intensity activities like classic Nordic or skate skiing on groomed trails, but depending on your needs and typical temperatures encountered, can be used for winter hiking, climbing, ski touring, and snowshoeing in âmoderateâ winter temperatures from the 20s to 30s Fahrenheit.
2.   Over-the-cuff gloves, which have longer, adjustable gauntlets designed to be worn over a jacket cuff. They have more insulation and often better water resistance than under-the-cuff glovesâor are fully waterproofâmaking them appropriate for temps in the 20s Fahrenheit and lower, and they usually cost more. I chose only two-piece gloves, with removable liners, for versatility in activities like backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, ski touring, climbing, or winter hiking and backpacking, where temperatures and your exertion level vary.
Suit up smartly. See my review of âThe Best Clothing Layers for Winter in the Backcountry.â
Skiers above the Baldy Knoll yurt in Wyomingâs Teton Range.
How to Choose Winter Gloves
How do you choose between under- and over-the-cuff gloves? While either style can be worn for most of the activities Iâve mentioned, consider these factors:
â˘Â   Your activity. â˘Â   Your usual range of weather conditions and temperatures. â˘Â   How easily your fingers get cold. â˘Â   Thicker, warmer gloves are overkill for high-intensity activities like skate skiing and winter running. â˘Â   Under-the-cuff gloves are usually best for outings of a few hours or less. â˘Â   Over-the-cuff gloves are usually best for multi-hour, all-day, or multi-day activities, especially when your hands are repeatedly in snow (such as when backcountry skiing or snowshoeing).
Iâve listed the products below in ascending order by price within the two categories, and pointed out the pros and cons of each and what theyâre best for.
 Under-the-Cuff Gloves
 Black Diamond Mont Blanc Gloves.
Black Diamond Mont Blanc Gloves $25, 2 oz. (medium) Sizes: unisex XS-XL moosejaw.com
Pros: Lightweight, very breathable, excellent dexterity, touchscreen fingertips. Cons: Minimal weather resistance, unisex sizing. Best For: Being active in temps from around freezing into the 40s.
No matter how easily your hands get cold, you will encounter conditions at any time of year (not just winter) when you need a light glove. Whether for high-exertion activities like running or Nordic skiing in temps around freezing to well above, hiking in cool weather, or long ultra-runs and hikesâBD designed this model with the ultra-race of the Tour du Mont Blanc in mindâthese featherweight gloves are a good pick. With my typically cold fingers, I found them perfect for hiking and trail running in temps in the 30s and 40s, but not warm enough for high-speed skate-skiing in temps in the 30s, because you create your own wind; but my wife, whose fingers donât get cold easily, found them ideal for skate-skiing in those temps.
A weather-resistant shell fabric on the back of the hand and digits sheds light precipitation and blocks some wind, while the stretch palm and cuff release perspiration and dry quickly; and the cuff seals snugly around the wrist. A silicone grip pattern covers the entire palm and grabbing side of the digits, for easily holding onto poles and bottles. And the thumb and forefinger tips have excellent touchscreen sensitivity. Sizing is average, with a skin-tight fit that doesnât feel too tight because of the stretch, which also helps accommodate different hand types.

The North Face Runners 2 Etip Gloves.
The North Face Runners 2 Etip Gloves $30, 1.5 oz. (medium) Sizes: unisex XXS-XL moosejaw.com
Pros: Lightweight, very breathable, excellent dexterity, touchscreen fingertips. Cons: Minimal weather resistance, unisex sizing. Best For: Running and hiking in temps in the 30s and 40s.
Like BDâs Mont Blanc Gloves, the Runners 2 Etip is made for high exertion in cool temps, but leans more toward maximum breathabilityâbest for running and cool-weather hiking. The lightweight fleece fabric stretches and breathes very well, delivering just enough warmth for temps around the mid-30s to the 40s, and light rain rolls off the soft-shell fabric on the back of the hand and fingers, which blocks some wind.
The back of the forefinger and thumb sport a nose wipe of soft, brushed fleece. A minimal amount of silicone grip pattern covers parts of the palm and three fingers. The close fit permits good dexterity, and the touchscreen sensitivity in the forefinger and thumb is good. The sizing runs slightly large, but thereâs a wider range of sizes than with other models.

Outdoor Research PL 400 Sensor Gloves
Outdoor Research PL 400 Sensor Gloves $40, 2 oz. (menâs medium) Sizes: menâs S-XL, womenâs S-L moosejaw.com
Pros: Lightweight, warm liner, excellent dexterity, touchscreen fingertips, menâs and womenâs sizes. Cons: Not weatherproof, dry slower than other light gloves. Best For: When dexterity is needed in cold temperatures, or when active in temps from just below to just above freezing.
For the dexterity and warmth they offer, these double-layer gloves stayed on my hands much of the time on a four-day, April climb of the Mountaineers Route on Californiaâs 14,505-foot Mount Whitneyâat times alone, often under a shell glove. Made of stretchy, 300-weight fleece with a 100-weight fleece liner, they strike a balance between more warmth than most liner glovesâwhich are lighterâand optimal dexterity for delicate tasks like firing up a stove.
They extend slightly beyond the wrist for better warmth. The fabric breathes really well, wicks sweat, and dries quickly, and fingertips and palms have an no-slip, silicone print. The forefinger and thumb tips are reliably touchscreen compatible, though you have to tap a little more deliberately than with bare hands. There is a quick clip for mating the gloves. Theyâre ideal as a single glove in temperatures from the 20s to the 30s Fahrenheit (depending on your activity and how easily your fingers get cold), or as a liner under a shell glove or mitten in colder temps. One the downside, once wet, do not dry as quickly as lighter gloves.

Keep your noggin warm, too. See my âReview: The Best Winter Hats.â
Seirus Soundtouch Xtreme All Weather Gloves.
Seirus Soundtouch Xtreme All Weather Gloves $55, 3.5 oz. (menâs medium) Sizes: menâs and womenâs S-XXL ems.com
Pros: Lightweight, waterproof-breathable, warm, excellent dexterity, touchscreen fingertips, and great value. Cons: Too warm for some users for high-intensity activities in temps above freezing. Best For: High-intensity activities in cold temps, or moderate activity in temperatures above freezing.
Through waves of heavy rain and thunderstorms in chilly temperatures on a mid-September backpacking trip in Wyomingâs Wind River Range, these lightweight gloves kept my hands warm and absolutely dry. They also proved plenty warm enough for a morning near freezing while backpacking in May in Utahâs Dark Canyon Wilderness, as well as on frosty days cycling and hiking at home.
With a light fleece lining and a stretchy cuff that extends about two inches behind the wrist bones, these gloves felt quite warm in temps in the low 40s Fahrenheit; even with my cold fingers, I could wear them in temps down into the 20s, so theyâre as warm as some bulkier fleece gloves. But unless you get cold fingers easily, theyâre too warm for hiking in temps in the 40s or running in temps much above freezing. A waterproof-breathable Pro-Fit insert kept my hands dry through heavy rain during thunderstorms in the Winds, and even when I ran tap water over them; theyâll certainly repel snow. The soft-shell outer fabricâs four-way stretch affords a close fit with excellent dexterity. Soundtouch sensitivity in the thumb and forefinger allowed me to easily tap out text messages and select icons on a phone screen, and PVC in the palm adds durability.

 Marmot XT Glove
Marmot XT Glove $75, 4 oz. (menâs medium) Sizes: menâs XS-XL moosejaw.com
Pros: Water-resistant, lightweight, good fit and dexterity, palm pad. Cons: No womenâs sizes or touchscreen sensor. Best For: High-intensity activities in any weather, or any activity in moderate temperatures.
I wore the XT Gloves for numerous one- and two-hour, skate-skiing workouts from the Harriman Trail in Idahoâs Wood River Valley to my local Nordic trails above Boise, and for cold-weather biking around town. Even in temps in the low 20s and some wind on a sunny, two-hour ski tour in the Boise Mountains, and a four-mile dayhike in the Boise Foothills on a 15° F morning, my chronically cold fingers stayed warm.
The proprietary, water-resistant, breathable MemBrain stretch fabric on the backs of the hands repels snow and light rain, while the DriClime lining wicks sweat. Falcon Grip articulation and Pittards leather in the palms and undersides of the fingers deliver good dexterity, fit, and easy gripping for manipulating pack buckles and zipper pulls; that leather makes the palms more durable than nylon, too. A small palm pad cushions the ulnar nerve, especially useful when using poles. The hoop-and-loop wrist closure seals out cold air. There is a quick clip for mating the gloves, but no touchscreen sensor.

 Smartwool Ridgeway Glove.
Smartwool Ridgeway Glove $80, 5.5 oz. (medium) Sizes: Unisex XS-XL moosejaw.com
Pros: Very durable, water-resistant, lightweight, good dexterity. Cons: No womenâs sizes or touchscreen sensor. Best For: Everything from high- and moderate-intensity activities in temps below and above freezing to all-around, everyday use, including working outside.
For high-speed Nordic skate-skiing in temps down to the mid-20s as well as biking around town, these gloves kept my chronically cold fingers happy, thanks to the warm and soft, Merino wool and nylon lining. And yet theyâre low bulk, fitting easily in pole straps and offering good dexterity. With goat leather everywhere but on the back of the hand (to make that area more breathable and the glove more flexible), and a double layer of leather reinforcing the thumb and forefinger, the Ridgeway is an excellent all-around winter glove for everything from cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to bike commuting and working in the yard and elsewhere.
The cuff lacks a closure strap or elasticity, leaving it slightly open, but fits easily under any jacket cuff to keep snow and cold out. Theyâre not warm enough for downhill skiing, except on sunny, warm early-spring days. Sizing runs slightly small, probably to accommodate womenâs hands (since these are unisex); men on the cusp between sizes will probably need to size up. But I almost always wear menâs medium, and the medium Ridgeway fit my hands well.

 Black Diamond Legend Gloves
Black Diamond Legend Gloves $150, 8 oz. (medium) Sizes: menâs S-XL, womenâs XS-L moosejaw.com
Pros: Waterproof, all leather, padded, very warm. Cons: Too warm for moderate temps, minimal dexterity for under-the-cuff gloves. Best For: Deep cold while backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, ice climbing, and mountaineering, or working outside.
BDâs Legend Glove achieves a successful marriage of the warmth of a three-in-one, over-the-cuff glove with the fit of an under-the-cuff glove. With 170g of PrimaLoft Gold insulation on the backs of the hands and 133g of PrimaLoft Gold Eco in the palms, these are the warmest under-the-cuff gloves Iâve ever usedâand they come loaded with high-end features. Shoveling out our tent after a night of wet, heavy snowfall, and taking the tent down laterâwith my hands repeatedly in heavy, sloppy snowâI found the Gore-Tex-lined Legend Gloves lived up to their fully waterproof claim. Ditto when I shoveled about a half ton of wet snow off the deck of a backcountry yurt in Idahoâs Boise Mountains. Theyâre built for hard use, with goat leather construction, Kevlar stitching, and compression-molded EVA padding on the backs of the hands. The soft suede nose wipe on the thumbs and a neoprene cuff with hook-and-loop closure close out a rich feature set.
Not surprisingly, I also found these gloves too warm for highly aerobic skate skiing in temps around freezing. Theyâre best for moderate-exertion, cold-temperature activities like ice climbing, resort skiing, skiing downhill in the backcountry (or skinning uphill in very cold temperatures), or hiking, snowshoeing and ski touring in temperatures well below freezing.

 Over-the-Cuff Gloves and Mittens
 Outdoor Reseach Phosphor Mitts
Outdoor Research Phosphor Mitts $90, 5 oz. (menâs medium) Sizes: menâs and womenâs XS-XL moosejaw.com
Pros: Very warm, windproof and water-resistant, good price for the quality. Cons: Too warm for moderate temps, very minimal dexterity. Best For: Backcountry and resort skiing, snowshoeing, ice and alpine climbing, winter hiking and backpacking.
For bone-chilling days of skiing, climbing, snowshoeing, fitness walking, or other outdoor activities, few models match the deep warmth of the Phosphor Mitts. They kept my chronically cold digits warm on windy, frosty days of resort skiing, even when the temp started dropping fast toward sunset and other gloves werenât warm enough. (Theyâve become a favorite of my teenage son for skiing because he prefers the warmth of mittens.)
Stuffed with 650-fill power goose down, these mitts keep digits toasty in wind and temps from the low 20s to below zero Fahrenheitâtheyâre actually too warm for temps in the mid-20s or higher. The Gore Windstopper membrane and water-resistant and tough, synthetic suede palm shed snow and other forms of frozen waterâand you donât need waterproof mitts in the temps youâll wear these. The polyester tricot lining feels soft enough and doesnât cling to damp skin. The big pull loop on the gauntlet helps you easily yank them on, even when gripping it with the other mitt, and they clip together.
The fit is true to sizeâand while they come in menâs and womenâs sizes, with bulky mitts like these, thereâs little difference in fit between genders (because they donât have fingers); women could use menâs mitts in their size. The downside of super warm mittens, of course, is very minimal dexterity.

The North Face Triclimate Etip Glove
The North Face Triclimate Etip Glove $90, 9 oz. (medium) Sizes: menâs XS-XL moosejaw.com
Pros: Waterproof, warm, elasticized wristband on leash, touchscreen compatible, relatively affordable. Cons: Slightly large fit may compromise touchscreen compatibility; some skiers will consider the wristband inconvenient. Best For: Backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, ice and alpine climbing, winter hiking and backpacking.
On a full day of resort skiing in wind chills below zero, I was surprised that my hands never felt cold in these glovesâexcept once, when we stopped for a short break and cooled down. I wore them on multiple days of backcountry skiing with similar results, thanks to 200g of insulation on the backs of the hands and 100g in the palms. I also wore the fleece- and tricot-lined shell glove alone when I didnât need the full system, such as when skinning uphill in relatively cold temps. The removable liner glove is made with a thin, light, wicking fabric for skinning uphill or touring in relatively warm temps.
The proprietary, waterproof-breathable Hyvent lining and extended gauntlet with a one-hand adjustment drawcord kept my hands dry when digging and working in a snow pit to evaluate avalanche hazard. Synthetic leather in the palms and undersides of the fingers provide good grip and durability, while nylon fabric throughout the rest of the shell repels moisture. The shell gloveâs fingers are curved, keeping your hands in a natural position when resting.
Fit is slightly large: The liner glove fingers on the medium were slightly long for my fingers, which was only a problem when using a touchscreen, because the extra fingertip fabric would get in the way of swiping or tapping, rendering the glovesâ touchscreen compatibility inconsistent for meâalthough it works perfectly well. The shell glove has a wide, elasticized wrist band at the end of its leash, to guarantee you wonât lose the glove in extreme situations, like ice climbing or ski mountaineering, when dropping a glove could really mean losing it forever. But the wristband, which you have to slide over your hand whenever taking the gloves off or putting them on, is overkill for most skiers and somewhat inconvenient.

 Outdoor Research Luminary Sensor Gloves
Outdoor Research Luminary Sensor Gloves $135, 8 oz. (menâs medium) Sizes: menâs S-XL, womenâs S-L moosejaw.com
Pros: Warm, versatile, fully featured, excellent touchscreen compatibility. Cons: Not the best choice for relatively mild temps or spring skiing. Best For: Backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, ice and alpine climbing, winter hiking and backpacking.
In temperatures ranging from the single digits and sub-zero wind chills to around freezing, and skies from bluebird to snowing, these three-in-one system gloves became my go-to hand wear for backcountry skiing. My hands typically get cold during the first 30 minutes of skiingâeven when Iâm skinning uphill the entire timeâbut that didnât happen in these gloves, which seem warmer than many in this category. Thatâs due to the combination of the removable, wool-blend inner glove, which delivers significant warmth, and the water-resistant Gore-Tex Windstopper soft-shell outer glove, which blocks the chilling effects of wind.
This system places its insulation in the liner rather than in the shell glove, which translates to a specific strategy for hand-temperature management: You wear the outer glove when youâre working hard (e.g., skinning uphill), and add the liner when you need more warmth, such as when digging a snow pit or skiing downhill. That means you still have wind and weather protection without making your hands sweaty, and it also makes this glove better for cold temps, or for people who get cold hands easily, than a system glove with a thin, removable liner (which is better for milder temps, like spring skiing)âalthough you could always supplement this system with inexpensive liner gloves for spring.
The Luminary also sports high-end features like water-resistant, tricot-bonded, goat leather palms for grip, plus leather overlays on the palm for added durability, and tricot lining in the shell glove. The touchscreen compatibility in the thumb and index finger works well even while wearing the full system (inner and outer glove). A one-hand drawcord closure on the extended gauntlet keeps out snow and it has a removable and adjustable leash. And I like the big nylon loop for pulling the glove on, and the loop on the shell gloveâs middle finger for clipping them to a harness fingers-up (to keep snow out).

Outdoor Research Mt. Baker Modular Mitts
Outdoor Research Mt. Baker Modular Mitts $145, 9.5 oz. (medium) Sizes: menâs S-XL moosejaw.com
Pros: Super warm and waterproof, two-piece system, glove dexterity with mitten warmth. Cons: Too warm except in temps well below freezing, no womenâs sizes. Best For: Deep cold and expeditions.
Skiing in a wind chill around zero at times during a four-day, January trip to a backcountry yurt in Idahoâs Boise Mountains, my fingersâwhich get cold very easilyâstayed toasty in this two-piece system of removable, insulated gloves inside a Gore-Tex shell mitten.
The warmth comes from 170g PrimaLoft One synthetic insulation in the glove insert, which has a soft, fleece lining. The Gore-Tex mitten shell kept moisture out and is made with the same 70-denier taslan ripstop polyester used in ORâs tough gaiters. Dexterity in the gloves is good enough to fuss with pack straps, boot buckles, and the like.
The mitts have smart details, like the one-hand gauntlet cinch on the shell mitten thatâs manipulated easily with a gloved hand; adjustable straps at the wrist on both the mittens and gloves; and the carabiner loop on the mittens for clipping them to a harness or pack wrist-down, to prevent precipitation from getting inside them. AlpenGrip pads on the thumb and fingertips help you hold onto things. Note: With so much insulation, theyâre made for temps in the teens and colder Fahrenheit. However, because the mittens have no insulation, they can double as three-season rain shells.

How to Experience the Best Vacations for Less
The growing trend among vacationers and travelers has shifted away from just going to Florida beaches or the Big Apple. We want experiences, memories, one-of-a-kind adventures that we canât just get at any sandy shore. The only problem with this is the cost we associate with travel. Plane tickets, transportation, dining and attractions all drain our wallets, and sometimes our energy too. Here's how you can go on incredible and unique vacations for less.
The Secrets of Vacation Timeshare Rentals
Thereâs nothing fun about coming back to a cramped hotel room that costs hundreds of dollars. It's especially frustrating to only get a few nights at this price. Hotel rooms even lack homelike amenities that help guests unwind. Thatâs no way to relax or refresh on vacation. Want to know the secret to how your favorite influencers, family members and friends are traveling for less AND making the most of their trips? Vacation timeshare rentals. Itâs no secret that timeshares have saved tons of people money over a lifetime of vacations. However, not all of us want to shell out a hefty payment for something weâre not sure we want. Vacation ownership is a big commitment, especially if youâre not planning on going on trips every single year. The amenities and luxury that comes with well-known vacation club resorts, however, turn many peoples heads. The best way to experience this type of accommodation without emptying your pockets is with a timeshare rental by owner. Like you, owners of these timeshares arenât always trying to take a vacation every year. They might have planned to, or aspired to, but sometimes life gets in the way. Owners that place their timeshare on the rental market want someone to take advantage of what they already paid for. One rental stay can also help cover their annual maintenance fees. With a timeshare rental, vacationers can save money, have more luxurious amenities, relax in more comfortable accommodations and have access to prime vacation locations.

The risks of three back-to-school plans, ranked
While some options eliminate COVID-19 concerns, they still may be worrisome for other reasons. (Julia M Cameron from Pexels/)
Follow all of PopSciâs COVID-19 coverage here, including breakdowns of the safest swimming options, safest dining options, and a tutorial on safest long-distance travel options.
School is back in session for many students across the country, which means tough decisions surrounding education are falling on the shoulders of teachers, school districts, and parent-guardians. With all of the unknowns of coronavirus still swirling in the air, it can be hard to judge whether ringing the morning bell and opening the classroom door is worth it.
Thereâs a long list of health precautions to consider before sending kids (or yourself) back to school, namely how high infection rates are in your community, how old the children are, and how well they might take to an alternative like online schooling. The solution wonât be the same for any two communities or students. After all, physically going to school has a lot of social and psychological benefits beyond learningâso for some, it might be worth the risk to go back.
Even if thereâs no perfect answer, however, thereâs one option that falls well below the rest, and thatâs be going back to school acting like absolutely nothing has changed. Here are a few schooling options ranked by risk for COVID-19 transmission.
Riskiest: Back to school as usual
It goes without saying that returning to life before COVID-19 swept over the globe is a recipe for disaster. And for schools that require students to move through crowded hallways, ride a bus, be dropped off in one massive cloud at the start of the day, and sit in classes of up to 30 other kids, the opportunity for spread is seemingly boundless. A county in Georgia is already dealing with over a thousand new cases after opening up schools with lax restrictions.
While kids might not show as many acute cases of COVID-19, they can still transmit the virus and end up with life-threatening inflammatory illnesses, says Rainu Kaushal, the senior associate dean of clinical research at Cornell Universityâs medical school. Also remember, children arenât the only people who are inside the classroomâteachers and other staff are also at risk. Some school employees may be older or have separate comorbidities; some might also commute long distances to get to work, which could lead to the disease spreading between different communities.
âThe risk to them just increases with every risk factor,â Kaushal says.
If your school district seems to be hurrying along with a lenient game plan and you have the option to do at-home learning, first gauge how bad the rate of infection is in your community by paying attention to your local news and state health department website. In some places around the country and globe, the virus is more under control, and it might be more of a possibility to go back to school normally.
Schools donât exist in a vacuum, says Aubree Gordan, a professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan. Whatâs happens in the community affects whatâs going on in the classroom, and vice versa. Even if only one kid gets sick, theyâre putting staff members and students at risk, as well as their family members and anyone that each of those family members interacts with.
Risky: Back to school with modifications
Before we dive into how schools can take precautions to make the classroom a safe and healthy space, itâs important to remember why itâs so critical to get classes back up and running in the first place.
âSchool serves as a safety net for so many children,â Kaushal says, âin terms of food, in terms of safety from violence that might be happening in their home or neighborhood, and in terms of check-ins for emotional and physical well being.â
Walking into school opens up opportunities for children that canât be replicated home. For young kids, especially, school teaches essential social skills like waiting, sharing, and interacting with peers. Not to mention, itâs hard enough for adults to focus on a virtual meeting for hours on end, so it canât be any easier for seven-year-olds.
To provide that structure while keeping everyone healthy, schools can adapt in a handful of ways. Some safe options, Kaushal says, include organizing classrooms to allow six feet of spacing between desks, keeping windows open and auditing for ventilation, separating schedules between cohorts, rotating which kids come to school during certain days or times so classrooms and drop off spots arenât full all at the same time, and swapping out recreational activities.
These suggestions may sound easy, but putting them to work can be harder than it seems. Providing separate crayons so that children donât have to share might be straightforward enough, but getting every child in the district their own microscope is a different story, Kaushal adds. Traditional COVID-19 avoidance methods like wearing a mask can be pretty challenging for a group of kindergartners sitting in a room for eight hours straight.
Having diligent cleaning practices and offering a âmask-free zoneâ for students to take little breaks could help ease some difficulties, Kaushal says. As for lunch and recess, unfortunately, thereâs just not a whole lot that can be done to make these activities happen like they used to.
But even if a school is doing everything right, thereâs still a chance that someone from the community with a case of COVID-19 might wander in and pass it off to someone else, Gordon says. The touched-on practices decrease the probability of a significant outbreak, but that chance can never truly be zero.
Not risky: School from home
For high-risk kids who can handle or enjoy working from home, doing school primarily online is the most secure option. After all, staying inside your home is pretty much the only fool-proof way from catching or spreading COVID-19. So, if you have a child with asthma or other health issues, or maybe even a family member that lives with you who is in the high-risk population, this is likely the way to go. Not to mention, if you live in a town or state where rates keep rising and policy action is limited, itâs safer to go this route than return to a business-as-usual school. Many districts have options for remote learning if youâre hesitant to let your kids go back to school, Gordon says.
Of course, learning from home is challenging for caretakers trying to juggle work and younger kids who canât seem to focus. Whatâs more, not all students have access to laptops, software, and a stable internet connection. Just know that you donât need to make one grand decision for all schools lumped together: If you have kids that range in age, there might be different solutions, Gordon says. For example, teens might be able to take classes just fine from homeâand given that theyâre at higher risk of coming down with serious symptoms, it might be okay to keep them there. Younger children need more supervision and structure at home.
If you decide to take the remote-learning route, itâs also important to remind your kids that this switch isnât forever, Kaushal says. Online classes might be the way to go for the next handful of months, but the day will come where they can play with their friends and snack in the cafeteria again.
And if you decide to send your kids back to school physically, make sure to talk to them about how things may be changing, and of course, get them personal protective equipment that fits. Luckily, masks come sin all sorts of shapes, sizes, and patterns, so they make the perfect back-to-school accessory.
