Meet Ove
No this is not an April fools joke this is a real ass cosplay I'm doing.
Some info about him- he's disabled like me! Instead of OveBots, he has little rat bots. His name is pronounced the norwegian way. He's the creator of the temporary-chair-inator and he eats ants. He's the head scientist of his precinct and he's made secret little altercations to things around the precinct to make it more accessible. He almost always wears headphones.

Hii! Can I request (whatever format you want) for seijou 3rd years and the reader as a squad where she is a inexperienced in the love topic? Like she wants to get ove with stuff like her first kiss but doesn't know with whom? Would they do something about it??? Thank you!!
anon. this is really cute! if I'm being honest, i didn't like oikawa at first but he's grown on me and i lOve him now. also i hope i got the meaning of this correctly ♡ (also if i have any repeating anons, would you like to make yourselves different with emojis, colours, or words??)
Seijou 3rd year squad + reader who wants her first kiss but is clueless on who she wants it to be (specified fem! reader ♡)
okay so they're all like; "wait, you haven't had your first kiss yet?" you nod, a little embarrassed.
"but [name]-chan's so cuteeeeeeeeee!" "shut up, shittykawa"
mattsun and makki tease her when they first found out
so did oikawa, but iwaizumi would always hit him with a volleyball (iwa always has a volleyball with him for some odd reason..hmm)
they made it a little competition? the competition is whoever gets the most 'hearts' from you by the end of..a month gets to be your first kiss
they all unintentionally get a lot of hearts
but y'know, the other members unintentionally get hearts as well and they're like: 'whAt'
but then the day comes..and its..
Oikawa as your first kiss
this baby was very happy for some reason?
"YAYY I GET TO BE [NAME]-CHAN'S FIRST KISS~!" "shITTYKAWA SHUT UP"
the kiss was really sweet honestly
he pulled away when you asked and gave you the brightest smile ever
"come on, [name]-chan!"
he drags you into a first date
Iwaizumi as your first kiss
he was honestly surprised that he got the most hearts from you
"i- huh?"
he's nervous of course. he'll be taking your only first kiss
iwa kissed you as if you were a fragile doll, delicately
pulled away a few seconds in, both of you were blushing messes
whether he brought you to a first date is up to you ♡
Mattsun/Matsukawa (this is meant for @haikoo 💜)
aight so he was pretty cool about it
"oh cool i got the most hearts"
he kisses you pretty softly, but not as soft as iwa
why are his lips so soft is a question you'll never get the answer too
once he pulls back he gives you an easy grin before making jokes (and lowkey showing off that he was your first kiss)
Hanamaki as your first kiss
he's a bit confused on how he got the most hearts ngl
but still happy none the less
his kiss was a bit soft but it also had a little dominance to it
his lips are very cold for some reason, contracting against your warm lips
when he pulls away he looks so calm and collected but you can see a soft blush adorning his cheeks
inside: 'NSBFJEBFJRB WHAT'

The Atomic Death of the Moon
20/05/07 – The Moon is on Fire. Atomic death pours from the skies. Sneaking onto the family computer at 7.30am per my orders, I find my email inbox flooded with furious diplomatic cables. My real life friend, fresh from holding Stalinist show trials of those who objected to a recently ratified treaty, is facing fresh calls to resign. In the parlance of the day; the moon is closed.
In 2007, adolescence was being revolutionised by access to an internet much more anarchic than today's. Youtube was only two years old, music was something to be downloaded illegally via megaupload and imageboards proliferated. Within a year 'Anonymous' would announce its opposition to Scientology in the much touted Project Chanology; a celebrated mainstream debut that often overshadows its precursor events. Anonymous – a loose alliance of mainly teenagers drawn from across the constellation of imageboards – had been conducting 'raids' for years prior to Chanology. From the occupation of Habbo Hotel with offensive statements and racial caricatures to the scripting of endlessly self-replicating cubes and storms of horse dicks that would crash Second Life servers, the absurd and often cruel humour of the group was stamped across the internet. Anonymous were the degraded Situationists of the commercialising internet, squeezing jouissance from the newly colliding social groups of odd hobbyists, lonely eccentrics and baffled normies.
youtube
With widening internet access yet many people connecting via low powered computers, a market emerged for browser games. In these, roleplaying and metagaming were as compelling as in narrative games. One such game that persists today,Cyber Nations, found itself targeted by Anonymous. A political simulation game where players controlled their own nations, the gameplay was itself was fairly monotonous, but the wider system of alliance forming resulted in elaborate treaties, wars and diplomacy that was truly gripping. On Cyber Nations, Anonymous went under the banner of /b/ (named for the 'random' board on, amongst others, 4chan), and spent 7 months growing itself. With a loose governing structure, /b/ existed mostly on the sidelines before it was dragged into Great War III, a multi-faction conflict that was to have been non-nuclear. However, two rogue actors within /b/ launched nuclear weapons, causing both the mass of members to follow suit and the nominal leader of the alliance, Furseiseki, to disband it. Now pariahs, /b/ spammed the Cyber Nations forums with all manner of shock images to disrupt the game, culminating in a DDoS attack and hack where the home page was defaced and the game's source code stolen. Cyber Nations was down for a number of days, and upon restart my own nation, designated as part of /b/, was stomped into the ground by furious players. The 'disbandment' section on /b/'s official channels read 'many lulz were had, but now we're off TO THE MOON.' Opened to public beta in February 2007, Lunar Wars was a political simulation game that took the broad strokes of Cyber Nations and refined them. Developed by Alessandro Bassi ('Sandro') as a way to teach himself web development, it swiftly attracted players, and offered a new theatre for Anonymous following the dissolution of /b/. I joined up as a junior diplomat for the Elitist Lunar Superstructure on 18/04/07.
The ELS was more disciplined than /b/ from the start. Allied nations were assigned squads to cooperate and trade within, and all announcements were handled through the ELS forum and emailed to members. A greasemonkey script (in 2007, we all used Firefox) was thrown together to assist players. Guides on increasing power quickly were disseminated. Notably two of the admin/developers for the game, skaladis and owl, were ELS members and the recruitment drive across various imageboards was persistent. The IRC channel was anarchic as usual, but diplomats and the leadership convened within a private channel to guide policy. Eph, the alliance leader, designated myself and select others to open lines of communication with smaller groups within the game. Of course, enemies from the days of Cyber Nations had come to the moon. It seems strange now that 4chan is so identified with reactionary politics, but in these games Anonymous enjoyed bullying the sad little men who named their nations things like 'Wolf Reich ov Iron' and roleplayed as Nazis in their alliances. In Great War III, /b/ had been opposed to Nordreich ('German Nationalists'), and FAN (Federation of Armed Nations), and these groups reemerged on the moon. Leftwing alliances like the Red and Black Block or Union of Lunar Socialist States (ULSS) tried to combat the Nazis on the moon, but the appeal of roleplaying internecine Left political conflicts was limited. To actually wield power capable of slapping down the fascists often meant joining with apolitical, carnivalesque groups like Anonymous. As fun as dunking on fascist cosplay was, however, the real enemy was FARK.
In the ecosystem of the 2007 internet, imageboards were not the only hangout. There were also humour sites like YTMND (You're the Man Now Dog), Something Awful and FARK. The content filtered through to everyone, but allegiance to any one site was performatively over the top. It was as good an excuse as any for enmity.
As a junior diplomat for ELS, I handled treaties with various smaller alliances, most notably the aforementioned ULSS which had been captured by my friend in early May 2007. The tension was mounting palpably across the lunar community as treaties were signed and mutual defence agreements entered into. Something like the network of alliances that ensured the nightmare of World War I was formed, overseen entirely by spotty teenagers and shitposting idiots. Notably GOONS, formed by SomethingAwful forum members, had joined with ELS; FARK was left out in the cold, and allied with FAN. On the night of 19th May 2007 as I stretched my allowed time on the family computer, diplomatic channels became frantic as spies within IRC channels let FARK/FAN know of a planned attack, per ELS internal communications;
GOONS is likely to be attacking FAN within 48 hours. We will receive target lists of anyone GOONS has trouble with. Do not fire counter offensives on FAN unless necessary (problematic targets, etc.)
FARK retaliated by launching the SHIT HITS THE FAN war, beginning perhaps ten minutes after my parents told me to turn the computer off and go to bed. Tossing and turning, I considered diplomatic avenues to strengthen the ELS cause. However as I finally fell into an uneasy sleep the metagame overtook the roleplaying.
For a while now Sandro had been teasing the existence of Galava, a new, more complex browser game with a medieval setting that further developed the gameplay of Lunar Wars. Given that the moon had only been open for a few short months, the kids who had wasted the back half of their school year building alliances on it were grumbling that Lunar Wars was being abandoned before it had even exited beta. The two ELS-allied admin/developers, skaladis and owl were similarly irritated. According to a post by Arciel, head admin of the Lunar Wars forums;
owl had not only given herself nukes; she had given herself and ELS members 9001 nukes each, in reference to a meme. The balance of the game was completely upended; by the time I awoke and booted up the dusty Dell in the spare room Sandro had locked the game. In private conference, Eph and the leadership decided to disband ELS. I was appointed interim Chief Ambassador for the continuity faction, but within a scant few hours I had come around to the joke. Emails continued to go out to rally the faction, but Anonymous' attention, and my own, was shifting elsewhere. The next time I encountered the group, the kids who shut down Habbo Hotel were going up against Scientology.
My friend lost his leadership position in the ULSS after the coup he helped lead was put down. He's involved in actual Leftist politics now, though he's not a Stalinist. In October 2007 Galava was released, and I received an email via the ELS list;
I didn't join. The internet got less wild, more scary. Megaupload was taken down in 2012 and Anonymous initiated a DDoS attack on Universal Music Group. 'Youtuber' became a job, and 4chan birthed the alt right. Both Galava and Lunar Wars continued until October 2009. For me and many others, though, it ended in the atomic fire of 9001 hacked nukes. Anything else was epilogue. The tribute page for Lunar Wars sums it up perfectly;

Hard Feelings - Chapter One
A Trent Alexander Arnold Fan-Fiction
Love was something that you felt in waves. One minute you would happily be drifting, the waves lapping around at a controllable pace as you felt yourself relax into the feeling of being in love. But the next minute you’d be drowning, your chest heaving under the pure weight; lungs threatening to give way as you’d grasp for air. And it was a vicious cycle - you’d never be able to survive the tsunami that would crash into your life.
As you sat there, thoughts dragging you into another world, you felt the sofa dip next to you, bringing you back into the harsh reality of the life around you. You were a day-dreamer: always finding yourself imagining a whole new dimension and how different things would be. Dele tapped your shoulder, desperately trying to get your attention but you were still half-way out of it, eyes focused intently on the blank television screen across the room.
“I need a plus-one for tonight,” Dele prodded you again, this time succeeding in gaining your attentiveness at the sound of a possible get together. He shifted slightly, turning his body to face you completely, “There’s some sort of charity ball. A lot of the lads are going, bringing their girls’ and what-not.”
You chew on your bottom lip, weighing out the pro’s and con’s of going to another event with Dele. The paparazzi had already latched onto the idea of you two being an unofficial thing but of course - they were wrong. Truth was you had had feelings for Dele in the past; growing up as good friends had ignited a fire inside of you. But overtime you realised that it wasn’t worth risking your friendship by telling him how you truly felt. And sure enough the emotions slowly started to fade: the crush proving to be just that and nothing more.
“I don’t have to get too dressed up do I? I haven’t got anything new to wear.” You sighed, not really seeing the harm in going to another event. Besides, it would be the first time leaving the house in a couple days. And who would really say no to good music, good-looking footballers and plenty of free champagne?
Dele exhaled: the same way he would when he was trying not to laugh. He shook his head, a sloppy grin painting across his features as he smirked, “You’re not trying to impress anyone are you?”
You snap your head to the window, cheeks burning a little from his question. Of course you found some of his team-mates attractive; it was impossible not to. At past events you’d always found yourself drinking a little too much and hiccuping to one of his pals about finding them ‘drop dead gorgeous’ and how you would totally be down for marrying them. And you’d never remember until the next morning when you woke up with a blistering headache, scraped knee’s and a video on Dele’s Instagram.
“Of course not!” You scoffed, picking at your nails as you tried to shield your face from him. Although you would always have fun at these events something would always happen - whether that be sharing a kiss with Ruben, falling over and ripping your dress or even waking up to Dele the next morning. Despite you two being strictly close friends there had been a few occasions where you’d ended up spending the night together. It had become something neither of you dwelled on, deciding in the morning that there was no point in being uneasy about it because both Dele and you knew it meant nothing whatsoever.
He got to his feet as he adjusted his hoodie, offering you his hand as he hauled you off the sofa. Checking his watch he mumbled about heading off, “I’ll pick you up at eight on the dot.”.
You stood there, folding your arms across your chest as you studied his face. The curve of the bridge of his nose; the prominent cupids bow; the thick, onyx eyelashes that framed those damned eyes. There was no doubt about the fact that Dele was a very beautiful person; inside and out. Yes, of course he had his off days where he looked pale and washed out, his appearance disheveled and untidy - but so did everybody else.
“Who’s going to be there?” You ask, remembering that you had no idea who you’d actually be socialising with tonight. He cocked an eyebrow, screwing his face up as he thought about the question.
“The Tottenham lads and the England squad - nobody you haven’t met before I don’t think,” He replied, his tone uncertain as his mind still conjured the question inside of his head. Dele’s hands dug into his pocket, yanking his car-keys out as his eyes lit up, “Oh! You’ve never met Trent before, he’ll be there tonight.”
You raked your brain out of curiosity - unsure whether you’d actually met Trent or not. Attending these events had opened several doors in terms of friendships and acquaintances - some of the lads Dele played with soon enough becoming good friends of yours. After moving away from your home-town you had struggled with meeting new people, always seeming to be the odd one out or the person on the sidelines. So, when Dele had proposed the idea of going along with him to football related events and such you couldn’t really hide from the people you met. Instead it thrust you into a world of ball related jokes, obvious competitiveness and snarky remarks about opposing teams.
He embraced you briefly before teetering out of your home, shutting the front door behind him. As you heard the engine of his car roar you tiptoed up the stairs, rummaging through your wardrobe in search of something suitable to wear. In all honesty you were trying to impress someone. But you didn’t have a name or even a face: you didn’t mind who. And as promiscuous as that sounded you couldn’t help it - you were lonely. These events that Dele dragged you along to had only added to the pressure of finding a love interest, someone to settle down with. You’d be surrounded by footballers and their partners all night - you stuck out like a sore thumb. It was obvious that you were single and it was even more clear to see which of Dele’s friends were also single.
Tugging dresses and skirts off coat hangers you rocked back on your feet, completely confused on what to wear to the event. You wanted to look nice and sophisticated but also look like someone who wasn’t afraid to get a little attention from the men. Through gritted teeth you pushed the strewn clothes into a pile, a carmine satin catching your attention as your fingers pulled at the material. With a sweet smile on your face you felt your chest flutter, “Perfect.”

Flashback
Werner Werman & Wilhelm
“Zo… vhat exactly are you trying to show me zis time, Vilhelm?”
It felt a bit odd, to say the least, that Wilhelm had requested his presence in person. Not only that, but to show up outside of their base, in the middle of the night? That was even more suspicious. But there he was, the black-furred rat just looking at Werner as he smiles gently. “Ah, vell Kommandant… I vould just like to zank you…”
Did… Did Werner hear that right? “… Zank me? For vhat?” he inquires. No need to freak out over it right away – even if it was something worth freaking out over, being so out of character for Wilhelm – so he opted to just hear him out.
“For, you know… giving all ov us a second chance at life. Even meinself.” Wilhelm admits with a low voice, possibly out of embarrassment. But Werner just chuckles a bit. “Vhat’s zo funny?” Wilhelm demands, as Werner just calms him.
“Ah do not vorry, Vilhelm mein freund!” he assures him. “It’s juzt funny zat you vould zank me for something like zat. I definitely see a lot ov potential in you. Even if you haff been deemed to be non-reliable, you haff done vell in mein squad so far! Moreso zan the others!” to hear these kind of comments made Wilhelm ever-so slightly flustered, but he just shrugged it off with a smile.
“Vell… zank you, Kommandant.”

Hannah Jane Mckenzie was born on December 25th,1990 to Daniel and Caroline "Carly" Mckenzie. She was the couples second child joining their 2 year old daughter Maggie. Early on in Hannah's life things were great. But when she turned 4 and Maggie was 6 things started to get rough at their house. Daniel lost his job and began to drink heavily, eventually the booze wasnt enough and he started to abuse prescription pills.
Due to the drinking and the drugs he became violent and began to beat Carly frequently. She shielded the children best she could from it. But he would go after them as well after he'd taken care of her. Friends of the family wanted Carly to leave him and take the kids but she kept telling herself everytime that it wouldnt happen again. Hannah was becoming more and more isolated due to the events at home and soon her teachers started noticing her behavior. Also the bruises that seemed to keep reappearing in the same places over and over.
The beating and the fright continued for the next 10 years until one fateful night things all changed. Maggie who was 16 had come home to find her father beating her mother and had enough. She wasnt an overly strong girl but she had a lot of pent up rage causing her to plow right into him both falling to the floor. Carly had purchased a gun a year earlier in case of a break in due to the poor neighborhood in Miami that they lived in. Somehow Daniel had gotten a hold of it and when Maggie and Daniel fell to the floor the gun fell with them landing nearby. Thankfully the gun hadnt fired. But when she saw him going for it Maggie wrestled with her father for the gun. They struggled for 5 minutes before he got a hold on it. He was forcing it downward as if he might shoot her and she was trying to get it away from her. Somehow--accidentally or otherwise the gun was fired.
Carly had been knocked out a few moments earlier when she had attempted to knock him off of Maggie. But came to when the shot went off, She screamed bloody murder when she had looked up and spotted her daughter with a gunshot wound to the chest. She went to help her--to grab the phone but Daniel wasnt having any of that. Instead he grabbed her by the throat and held her against the wall. Meanwhile, 14 year old Hannah had heard a loud noise from the basment where she had been hiding away reading "The Wizard of Oz". She had loved the book since she was a small child because in Oz everyone seemed to have a happy ending even if real life didnt mirror that.
Hannah made her way upstairs and opened the door half-way peering out and seeing her father in one of his rages attacking her mother. She looked around and spotted her sister on the floor. She wasnt moving and was pale as a ghost. She managed to get over there and felt for a pulse having learned from her mother who used to be a paramedic. She didnt feel one and she wasnt breathing--Maggie was dead. Enraged by her sister's brutal shooting in her own living room Hannah had reached her breaking point. She started beating, kicking, smacking her father trying to get him to let her mother go. He wasnt letting up though.
Hannah was determined not to lose her mother too--having already lost the only other person she trusted to the maniac who had helped create them both. She started screaming and went to the door opening it crying out murder as loudly as she could. Daniel snapped hearing her ranting to the entire neighborhood that he'd murdered someone and he let Carly go. She was trying to catch her breath when Daniel made his way to Hannah. Hannah turned around and saw nothing but hate in his eyes. "You son of a bitch" She said as she kicked him in the stomach making him lose his balance. She hadnt been one to use profanity--ever but right now she didnt care. She didnt feel like herself. She made her way to her mother to try to help her up.
But moments later she was face down on the ground being pulled back towards him. No. He wasnt going to win this time. Hannah tried to stop being pulled by grabbing onto a chair but it didnt do any good thanks to his drunkeness and high that seemed to have not worn off. She managed to shake her foot from his grasp long enough to kick him in the face sending him backwards. She crawled for the gun that was next to Maggie's dead body. Hannah then grabbed it right as he was coming towards her. She didnt want to shoot anyone. She just wanted to live; She was too young to die. He tried to wrestle the gun out of her hands but she wasnt about to let it go. Hannah and Daniel struggled for a few moments longer before a shot rang out much like the one that had been fired not long ago killing Maggie. But this time it was Daniel who was shot and he had landed on top of her presumably dead. "Mom! Mom!" she cried out. "Help--Help" She pleaded near hysteria. Carly managed to get over there even though she was battered and broken--and had just lost a child. She pushed the dead father of her children off of her daughter and Hannah dropped the gun on the floor and latched onto her sobbing uncontrollably.
The police arrived thirty minutes later and started to process the scene. After it was determined that Hannah had no choice with the gun and that it was actually in self-defense the case was closed. Maggie was cremated and they spread her ashes out over the ocean because Maggie had always loved the ocean and its many animals. She had always said she someday wanted to work at Sea World with the dolphins and whales. After the funeral Hannah and Carly left Florida behind them feeling too many bad memories would be there to even think of having a life. They moved to Vegas and Carly ended up getting a job as a showgirl leaving her paramedic past behind her finding that it was easier to make a living off her looks than her brains. Hannah was still closed off and became so utterly depressed by her failure to save everyone in her family--meaning Maggie that she picked up a habit for cocaine.
Hannahs habit soon became expensive and she picked up a job during the day to pay for it. Carly was so preoccupied with her job and with the exhaustion that came with it she had no idea what was going on. Hannah's grades began to slip and she slowly but surely became addicted. She couldnt even think clearly anymore. But someone from her school noticed a 15 year old with a habit and called Carly to alert her sending Carly into a panic. She wasnt about to lose her only remaining daughter to drugs. At first Carly tried reasoning with Hannah that it wasnt her fault. She tried to explain things happen for a reason and that her older sister wouldnt want her living like this.
But Hannah wouldnt hear of it and locked herself in her room. She did some cocaine but it turned out to be too much and she ended up overdosing. Carly broke down the door when she didnt hear anything and took her straight to the ER. No more playing games, Carly checked her into rehab. She was going to kick her habit if it took every penny Carly had to her name not that that was a terrible lot. It took Hannah an entire year but by her 16th birthday she had gotten clean. She was still depressed though and Carly didnt know how to deal with it. While Hannah had been gone Carly had started seeing someone and it'd gotten serious. In fact she'd married the guy.
Hannah was now reeling because she returned home to find that she had a new stepfather, a step-sister, and no longer any reminder of her life before. It felt as if her sister had been completely wiped from their lives--the pictures, the home movies all seemed to be gone somewhere. Hannah realized Carly couldnt remember Maggie or she would never be happy. But Hannah did remember and at first she started acting out against her new step-sister and her newfound little family.
She did however bring up her grades. Hannah decided that the best way to honor Maggie would be to make something of herself. So she kept on the straight and narrow--getting Straight A's once again, joining the cheerleading squad. She even started dating a guy which she thought was going well until he turned out to be just as violent as her father had. She ended the relationship with him. But he didnt seem to catch that hint. He began sending disturbing packages, black roses, and other things including notes. He'd park his car in her driveway and honk his horn repeatedly for hours straight till they called the police.Soon it stopped--He just stopped. Hannah had a normal life for a month or two. One night when her step-sister was at her mom's and her mother had gone out with her stepfather for the night..something happened. Hannah had ordered pizza and rented some movies. She was intending on staying in and just vegging out--maybe study for her chem final. She heard a knock at the door and froze in place seeing it was her ex-- her stalker. She tried to close the door on him but he wouldnt let her. He punched her in the face knocking her off balance and sending her backwards.
He chloroformed her and tied her up in the basement taunting her with a sharp knife. Hannah knew whatever had been holding him together had snapped once and for all. She didnt want to die--not then and not that way. She played along with his little games and when she accidentally said the wrong thing he gagged her and the knife fell and made a small cut on her arm. No one knew she was home alone--and no one knew she was in trouble. A Girl from next door came and knocked on the door needing to borrow some milk for her moms coffee because she was too lazy to run out herself. When no one answered she thought it odd knowing theyd never been the type to all go out at once. She peered in through the window and saw blood on the floor.
She ran home and called 911. But didnt wait for the police to arrive before she picked the lock on the door and went inside. "Hannah? Hannah?" She called out. She made her way to the basement and found the guy pratically beating her to a bloody pulp. She managed to knock him over the head with something and he fell to the ground. She untied Hannah and got her upstairs locking the basement door and waiting for the Police. it was from then on that Hannah realized she was going to live her life to fullest because she didnt know when her day would be up. Hannah's life calmed down for a long time before it turned ugly again. She had a great family, and friends, and she'd developed a crush on someone unbeknowst to them. But someone from her father's shady past wanted revenge because of something that happened years ago. He kidnapped Hannah on her way home from school and took her to an abandoned warehouse.
He proceeded to tell her how this was all her father's fault and how she was going to die for his mistakes. Hannah tried to explain that he was dead and that all that killing her would do is cause more problems but he didnt seem to want to hear it. When Hannah didnt come home from school her step-sister got worried. She in turn told her mother and from there it was figured out she was missing. It was hours before the crazy maniac decided whether to do anything one way or the other. Hannah was scared out of her mind. She did not want to die. She hated that it was always her fighting for her life. It seemed unfair.
Eventually Hannah attempted to jump him but he knocked her back down. Everytime she tried something he became more and more agitated until finally he snapped. He shot her in the leg. It seemed like it took forever for the police to find her and when they did she had bled half to death. Hannah was taken to the ER and they stopped the bleeding. But she had to be on crutches for the remainder of her junior year and half of the summer.

Ramblings: Scheifele Down (Dece 28)
Tough news on the injury front for Mark Scheifele owners as the Jets’ centerman was forced from last night’s action with an upper-body injury. We should find out more about the severity later today, but my suspicion is a broken collarbone based on how he went into the boards.
Look for Bryan Little to step up with Scheifele out. He’ll never be as valuable as Scheifele, but Little could certainly score near a point-per-game pace for however long Scheifele is out. Little is owned in only 26% of Yahoo leagues, but that will soon spike.
This also opens up the 2C spot for Jack Roslovic to get called up from the minors. I discussed Roslovic’s potential in Tuesday’s ramblings. Exposure to any of Winnipeg’s top-six wingers is a great spot to be in.
There is potential for someone else to step into that 2C slot. For instance, Mathieu Perreault has been deadly in limited action on the fourth line and was lights out filling in for Kyle Connor on the top line during the brief period the youngster was out. Stay on top of the Jets’ line combinations using the Frozen Pool tools.
It sounds like Dustin Byfuglien will be back soon. Paul Maurice indicated early January for his return. Jacob Trouba hasn’t done much with the bonus minutes. At this point, I suspect that the struggles of the Jets’ defensemen to put up elite totals is a stylistic thing. They simply aren’t jumping into the play as much as in previous years. It’s probably helping Connor Hellebuyck, but hurting Trouba and Byfuglien, who have combined for two goals (both from Trouba) after scoring 21 last season. When Byfuglien returns I am going to drop Trouba in leagues that don’t score hits/blocked shots. He isn’t seeing the requisite PP time, and isn’t jumping into the play enough.
*
Cam Talbot’s six-game winning streak came to an end, but I’ll stick with the process believing him to be a solid bet for the second half.
Despite skating 20+ minutes with top unit power play time Andrej Sekera is scoreless in three games since returning from injury. The upside for him even with top PP minutes is a 40-point pace so expectations should be modest. Plus, after so much time away he’ll need lots of time to get fully up to speed. I wouldn’t be shocked if Sekera is a regular scratch now that the Oilers are healthy on the blueline. There’s no sense in burning Sekera out with back-to-backs if they have other defensemen to work into the lineup.
Oscar Klefbom missed last night’s game, but should be ready to go on Friday. He has been banged up all season, which is part of why he has struggled. Klefbom could bump Sekera off the top PP unit, but that’s no guarantee that he’ll get back to relevance. The Oilers’ PP remains a struggle.
*
Devan Dubnyk returned from injured reserve to serve as backup to Alex Stalock. They’ve got a back-to-back against the Predators this weekend so Stalock isn’t out of the mix just yet. In fact, Stalock has played just well enough to linger as an option to steal starts from Dubnyk. Dubnyk would have to fall completely flat to lose his gig entirely, but losing the odd start is totally doable.
I do have some concerns about Dubnyk. The Wild rank dead last in Corsi-For%. This isn’t the be-all-end-all, but generally speaking you want to be controlling the majority of the shots. To overcome such a deficit, you need elite goaltending and scorers who can drive shooting percentage.
Bruce Boudreau has driven teams to above-average shooting at every stop of his coaching career, including with this squad last season, but they’ve taken a step backwards on the elite shooting. In particular, Mikko Koivu whose shooting percentage has dropped to 5.2% from 12.9%. The career 9.1% shooter has seen an overcorrection that has killed his fantasy value. With only two points in his last 16 games, Koivu has become un-usable for fantasy owners.
Without elite shooting that leaves Dubnyk to be an elite goaltender. He has had some stretches of elite play for the Wild, but has a career 0.916 save percentage, which is essentially league average. A league-average goalie getting hemmed in with shots is going to give up more three-goal games than fantasy owners can stomach, especially since with scoring falling back to normal allowing three goals will lead to a loss more often than not.
Barring an elite run, which would be unpredictable, Dubnyk’s trending towards third-tier starter status. You know he’s giving you roughly 60 starts, but probably isn’t giving you more than 30 wins.
Zach Parise is on the road back playing rehab games in the minors. It’s been a while since Parise had universal fantasy relevance, but he should still provide solid depth scoring and shot volume. If Rick Nash is good enough to be relevant in your league Parise should offer similar production.
*
Chris Kreider was knocked out of last night’s action due to an upper-body injury. Like with Scheifele we are waiting for an update today. This pushed Nash into top-line and top PP duties. Nash could have an extended run of elevated play, although the Rangers’ have struggled to score of late.
Mika Zibanejad is scoreless in four games since returning from injury. Everything from linemates and minutes is there for him to produce, he simply hasn’t gotten it done yet. I’m not ready to bail on him yet, but we did see Zibanejad fall apart after getting hurt last season. It’s something to be weary of if it becomes a trend.
*
In positive injury news, Ryan Kesler returned to the Duck lineup last night. Check out their lines:
#1 28% COGLIANO,ANDREW – KESLER,RYAN – WAGNER,CHRIS
#2 22.4% GETZLAF,RYAN – KASE,ONDREJ – RAKELL,RICKARD
#3 21.7% HENRIQUE,ADAM – ROY,KEVIN – SILFVERBERG,JAKOB
#4 15.5% RITCHIE,NICK – SHAW,LOGAN – VERMETTE,ANTOINE
That’s not a great spot for Kesler, especially with him banished to PP2. Also losing Jakob Silfverberg off that line won’t help. Kesler probably won’t make an immediate impact coming off of hip surgery so set your expectations low for now. He skated 16:44 with time on both special teams units, but it could be another month before he’s back to skating 20+ minutes a night. Once he’s up to speed he’ll be the nightmare we al remember.
It’s good news for Adam Henrique that Kesler’s return didn’t squash his spot as #2C with PP1 time, but it’s bad news that Henrique has only two points in his last eight games, both of which came in a revenge game against New Jersey. He’s heading straight to the waiver wire for fantasy owners.
*
The Penguins were without Kris Letang due to a lower-body injury. His status is day-to-day. How a player gets hurt over Christmas break, I’ll never know, but if we were taking bets Letang was the front-runner.
This injury underscores the value of Justin Schultz. Mind you, Schultz has been out with an injury of his own, but we have seen that he has the capacity for greatness when unleashed in Letang’s stead. With rumours swirling about Letang potentially getting traded, Schultz has the chance to explode once again.
I don’t want to overplay this situation. I’d put the odds on Letang getting traded at less than 50%, but they did win a Cup without him, which could embolden them to make a big move.
Most of Letang’s “struggles” have been percentage based. His 917 PDO is the lowest in the league among players with at least 200 minutes of 5-on-5 action. Whatever degree to which you think talent can impact shooting percentage, it isn’t as extreme as the Penguins shooting just 3.9% with Letang on the ice, especially not when you consider that they have elite shooting talent on the roster.
Whether it’s trade or injury, Schultz has some mighty potential. Schultz’s ownership has hit a low at just 61% on Yahoo. I encourage making a speculative pickup. You need to be willing to ride this out for a few weeks, which could mean some bleak production from Schultz. He has scored at roughly a 35-point pace thus far, and 35-point defensemen can go through dark stretches. On a high scoring team like Pittsburgh that is less likely, but the potential for him to fail to score for two weeks exists if he remains blocked by Letang.
As for Letang, his value would take a hit going elsewhere as he’d lose exposure to Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the gang, especially Pittsburgh’s lethal PP. However, the Venn diagram of plausible destinations for Letang and teams where he wouldn’t be the #1 option has no overlap. He’d still be good, but perhaps not good enough to absorb the injury risk.
As always, any question of selling a player comes down to what you can leverage in return. It is certainly worth exploring what you can get in return for Letang, but if you can’t net a star calibre player (someone around the top-10 at any position) you are probably better off riding it out.
By the way, with both of those guys out it was Olli Maatta who stepped into the top PP minutes. He was held scoreless, but did manage five SOG. Maatta has had a bounce-back season after multiple injury-plagued runs. He’s once again in the mix for a 30-point season, a feat he has yet to accomplish as an NHLer.
*
With Cam Atkinson, Alexander Wennberg and Zach Werenski out we saw more changes to the Blue Jacket PP formations.
Seth Jones, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Artemi Panarin were locked in, but we saw Josh Anderson, Nick Foligno and Oliver Bjorkstrand rotating in. Bjorkstrand probably has the upper hand here, but Anderson would be spicy considering he also skates on the top line.
I wouldn’t be shocked if the Blue Jackets move towards some three-forward looks when Werenski returns. Werenski remains day-to-day with a mystery injury speculated to be a back ailment. I wonder if this is the sort of injury that lingers and saps a player’s efficacy. There’s no question that Jones has been the better of the two top defensemen.
I have discussed the irrelevance of who plays on the Blue Jacket power play because they have been so bad, but last night ended a four-game streak of scoring a PP goal. They have gone 5/23 over the last seven games. All they need to boost their players is to be run-of-the-mill bad, which is achievable.
I continue to be smitten with Dubois. He has 11 points in 13 games this month, which would have relevance in just about every league, especially since he has winger eligibility with certain providers. He is available in 70% of Yahoo leagues and could help a lot of fantasy teams.
*
Break up the Bruins’ second line! Boston laid five goals on the Senators with all five coming from the second line of Danton Heinen, Riley Nash and David Backes. Heinen is easily the most interesting of the trio. He has run his point total up to 24 in 31 games. He has five goals and 12 points in 12 games this month.
I still don’t think we’re looking at sustainable relevance for fantasy owners because of his reduced PP usage. All the same, we’re talking 15-16 minutes per game with secondary PP time. In the average league, he’ll fade from relevance at some point, but you can use him while he’s hot! In particular, I’ve made some hay with Heinen in daily fantasy.
*
Perhaps you jump to the Heinen option now that Kevin Fiala and Kyle Turris are cooling off in Nashville. Fiala has gone two straight without a point, but Turris has run it up to four straight, which is more concerning. I’m not quite done with this duo, but I don’t mind keeping a short leash with them as their opportunity on the Preds is reduced. I do expect to be dropping Fiala at some point.
*
It may be time to jump back in with Justin Faulk. The opportunity has been there all season, but shooting percentages have not been in his favour. He has points in three straight games. We’re going streaking!
*
The official timeline for Tyson Barrie is 4-6 weeks following surgery to repair a broken hand. I also wonder how effective he’ll be coming off that surgery. We have seen players like Brendan Gallagher tank in efficacy after hand surgery. He should have the legs when he returns, but will he have the dexterity?
Erik Johnson took over PP1 duties with Barrie out. There is some big time potential here. He notched an assist in 26 minutes of action. Mind you, Johnson has been logging heavy minutes all year but the PP1 time and the exposure to Nathan MacKinnon will help him gain relevance over the next month and a half. Johnson has already been piling up peripheral stats and is on pace for 231 SOG. He won’t fully replace Barrie, but is adequate.
*
Corey Crawford is on the IR once again, with an undisclosed injury. Last time he missed a week with a lower-body injury, but there’s no sense in speculating at how long this will be. If the timeline is weeks, not days, then the timing isn’t great. Chicago has the late bye week and is off January 15-19. Ideally, Crawford would miss time during the Blackhawks’ bye week, but it would have to be serious for him to miss a month.
In the meantime, Anton Forsberg is your uninspiring replacement option. Jeff Glass has been recalled from the AHL and boasts modest numbers, but we won’t see him unless Forsberg is a trainwreck (possible) or Crawford is out for an extended period.
Forsberg is 1-4-3 with a GAA of 3.13. The Blackhawks play their next four games on the road. This is a nightmare scenario.
*
Zac Rinaldo’s six-game suspension won’t have much fantasy impact, if any, but I’ll have to admit that I was hoping for a much larger penalty. My stance on this doesn’t has less to do with the specific play and more to do with my disdain for the enforcer role, which is thankfully getting phased out of the game. The NHL has the fastest professional sport going, it doesn’t need goons interrupting the breath-taking action. I’d have thrown the book at him, but mostly because he represents the type of player I no longer have any time for.
