📚 Out of the Ashes is a juicy collision of truth and lies - Basic Review 📚

Out of the Ashes is a deeply emotional journey through truth, lies, and the nightmares of having both fractured beyond recognition. Sam Newsom is a complex character, our first-person viewpoint recounting her laywoman investigation into the death of her family twenty-two years after the fact. She's real, engaging, and completely alive. It's through her human and therefore imperfect recollection that the reader is absorbed in Kara Thomas's gritty mystery.

The blurb does give the distinct impression that Out of the Ashes will have a buddy-cop type feel with its focus on Travis Meacham, but, sadly, aside from being a catalyst, his role quickly diminishes. A well-fleshed cast with well-fleshed histories, however, make up the difference, becoming either roadblocks or walls for Sam to find her way over...or through.

A lack of action and an anti-climactic finale might polarise some, but Out of the Ashes very definitively lets us know that this is Sam's path, and, that, thankfully, at least emotionally, gets the attention and resolution it deserves.

Favorite Wincest kinks?

here’s a few i enjoy the most because they are actually supported by canon (i also included some of my fave fics ft these kinks!)

- feminization. dean canonically loves feminizing sam (he wants a baby sister so bad it makes him look stupid) and i definitely think this habit might make it into their sexual dynamic too

- knifeplay. i mean, we all saw how turned on sam looked in 4.14 sex & violence when he had a knife pressed to his throat by dean. knifeplay might turn into light painplay at some point considering sam is canonically a masochist, he loves a dash of pain when he’s getting wrecked

- big brother/little brother kink. dean gets off on being a caring big brother and sam craves the feeling of being physically smaller than he is and completely giving up his control. also you can’t convince me he doesn’t come just from dean’s big brother talk during sex

fic rec: the devouring mouth by hathfrozen

- mommy kink. dean canonically called his mother a “babe” and sam was blatantly paralleled to her multiple times, including john mentioning in his journal that sam reminded him of mary which makes me think if dean thought about that too. also it’s canon that dean misses mary (2.20 what is and what should never be) and honestly it’s pretty obvious he wants to be mothered. this kink goes perfectly with hurt/comfort where sam is in the caretaker role

There is a shameful lack of this on AO3, which is strange to me because the dynamic is SO good. Dean is so completely unrepressed and unrepentant as a demon it's delightful, and Cas as a priest is stuffy and brooding in a way that's equally delightful. But out of what's there there are a LOT of unfinished fics and Dead Dove fics that include things like graphic torture and MCD, which are not my bag.

All of that to say, this is a very short rec list.

Thinking again: Trying to let go of the thoughts about how when I started becoming ill, and the pain increasing to the point of which I was unable to earn money the ways I have always done, and the hate I received from everyone around me because I couldn't make money and support myself anymore. I suffered more pain than most can possibly imagine, Instead of help and support, I got hate, and anger, and all kinds of shade thrown my way. I was left to figure it out on my own. I so much want to hate and be angry back at you, so badly. But I won't.
