okay so. im not going to give you guys the Full Backstories (tm) for these characters. because they really are background characters for the esmp au. but theyre so important to me so i do wanna talk a Little Bit so you guys have Context. meringue/mer/snapdragon is mine, pi/aello belongs to @fogwitchoftheevermore and thorn/refuge belongs to @hermitdyke!

pi, thorn, and mer were all (along with a handful of others) part of the generation of vigilantes/heroes directly after the Cohnal And Alinar Incident! their main supervillain went by the name of Rapture (no relation to the event in empires). over the time of their active duties they grew close, and in the case of meringue and thorn, started dating.

aello grew up with a vigilante brother whose secret identity was found out by his enemies. their brother was killed and they barely escaped the same fate, but managed to escape and joined up with the vigilante scene as a way to protect themselves. they worked alongside snapdragon, refuge, and multiple other heroes/vigilantes, but were briefly convinced to betray the group by the villain rapture, who preyed on their deep rooted fear for their life. aello managed to return to the hero side prior to the final fight with rapture, however, and has generally been welcome back by the group. in the final fight with rapture, aello’s wings were injured beyond recovery and they were forced to retire. they adopted gem a few years after their departure from vigilante work and now work as a receptionist at a therapist’s office.

refuge was the new pr sweetheart of the hero commission, because the commission was trying to save face after such a major incident involving one of their heroes. he gets to have one of those Sterotypically Slutty costumes that comics artists love to give women because a) he doesnt need armor he can reinforce himself/make forcefields/whatever and b) she deserves it <3. he retired a few months after the battle that forced both aello and snapdragon into retirement, in order to settle down with meringue.

snapdragon was originally mentored by a hero who regretted how many people key was unable to save because of the bureaucracy the licensed heroes had to abide by. after kyr death, meringue repurposed and reworked kyr gear and took to the streets itself as a vigilante. during the major battle to take down rapture, its mask broke. their lungs were damaged by the smoke inhalation she experienced that day, leading to it now being disabled/chronically ill, and the exposure of its secret identity would have led to the end of her vigilante career anyway. he now runs the sunflower cafe with thorn.
