Fans are currently in the midst of another 'Droughtlander' with the second half of season 7 not due to hit our screens until November.

In the meantime, however, at least we are getting to see plenty of Claire Fraser – also known as Irish actress Caitríona Balfe – as she tours the world attending glamorous and glitzy events.

Four Hobbits Wood, Astin, Boyd, Monaghan In Rare ‘LOTR’ Reunion At FAN EXPO New Orleans in January

It has been more than 20 years since Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan first took the film world by storm as the “four hobbits” in the original The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001. Now the four get together at FAN EXPO New Orleans, set for January 5-7, 2024, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, to greet fans, pose for photo ops and sign autographs in a rare full reunion of the actors who portrayed “Frodo Baggins,” “Samwise Gamgee,” “Pippin Took” and “Merry Brandybuck,” respectively, in the popular trilogy. Additionally, FAN EXPO New Orleans announced today that popular guest Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) will also attend the show.

Wood, Astin, Boyd and Monaghan will also participate in “The Four Hobbits: An Unexpected Reunion,” a special premium live show on Saturday, January 6 at 7:30 p.m., during which fans will have the opportunity for further interaction with the stars at this exclusive evening of stories, questions, discussions, hilarity and more. The once-in-a-lifetime Backstage Pass package includes an in-person Autograph and Photo Op with all four Hobbits plus a Gold Ticket to the reunion event.

Following the LOTR trilogy, Wood has gone on to success in many areas of the entertainment industry. In addition to the “Samwise” portrayal, Astin has demonstrated his innate ability to share his heart with the world through such iconic roles as “Mikey Walsh” in The Goonies, the title character of Rudy, and “Bob Newby” in "Stranger Things 2," roles that epitomize hope, determination and loyalty. Sean's recent feature films include the award-winning thriller Adverse (2020); the family comedy Hero Mode (2021); Charming the Hearts of Men (2021); and the 2022 comedy iMordecai.

The Scottish-born Boyd also had roles in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, On a Clear Day and The Flying Scotsman. He has appeared in popular television series like “Outlander,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “NCIS: Hawaii,” “Snowfall” and others, and in many iterations of the LOTR franchise, including video games. Monaghan has appeared in more than 50 productions and is known to many as “Charlie Pace” in the hit NBC series “Lost,” on which he appeared in 77 episodes. Some of his other featured roles have included spots on X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009 and ABC’s “Flash Forward” that year. He was recently the lead in the AMC+ series “Paul Sarno.”

Campbell first gained notice for his portrayal of “Ash Williams” in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead franchise, appearing as the character in numerous films and series including the original 1981 movie, time-bending Army of Darkness in 1992, last decade’s “Ash vs. Evil Dead” series and others. He is also well-known for a long run in the hit USA Network series “Burn Notice” and last holiday season starred in the Hallmark Channel movie My Southern Family Christmas.

Outlander star Caitriona Balfe's husband's link with iconic Scottish band resurfaces

Tony McGill manages the Fratellis, the iconic Scottish band best known for their worldwide hit Chelsea Dagger, and is also good friends with broadcaster Gordon Smart.

Outlander star Caitriona Balfe's is so in love with Scotland due to her role in the smash-hit series that she is happily married to a Scotsman as well.

Tony McGill has been married to the Irish actress since August 2019 and recently welcomed a baby boy, whom the Claire Fraser actress was carrying while filming season six of Outlander.

But the Scots music producer's career has been kept under wraps due to the pair's very private life. He is known to be a musician and also owns a bar in London.

And another aspect of his social life was thrust to prominence late last week thanks to a radio interview involving Outlander star Lauren Lyle and broadcaster Gordon Smart.

He was covering for Irish comedian Patrick Kielty on his Saturday morning BBC Radio 5 Live show when they discussed the Scottish Six Degrees of Separation to link both the actress and Mr Smart.

It was discovered that the former Scottish Sun editor is actually very good friends with Mr McGill and mentioned that he manages iconic rock band The Fratellis.

The band is best known for their tune Chelsea Dagger which has been adopted by fans of the Scotland National Football Team and is often belted out at Hampden.

He was chatting to Ms Lyle about both Outlander and her new show, Karen Pirie, which is based on detective novels written by Val McDermid.

And the actress was describing how delighted she was that the drama had been given a second season by STV and that she was now being recognised in the street for two of her characters, with Marsali being the other one.

She said: "It's been received so well and even when the first episode came out I went into ITV and the receptionist went 'oh I love the show by the way' and it was suddenly such a weird thing that I was starting to get recognised for it straight away.

"I'm always recognised for Outlander, especially when I'm in Scotland. If American fans are over and they see Marsali walking down the streets of Edinburgh, they absolutely fall apart, are beside themselves.

"It must be amazing to have this show you are so passionate about and then see one of the characters, it's been really brilliant to get to do it again."

This prompted Mr Smart to put forward an "amazing bit of music trivia" as he labelled it a "ridiculous six degrees of separation." He said: "People might not know but Caitriona Balfe from Outlander is married to an amazing fella called Tony McGill who is a very good pal of mine.

"Now, Tony McGill — for anyone thinking why's he mentioning this, it's Scottish nonsense — Tony McGill manages a band you will know called the Fratellis. So that's what links Outlander to great music, Lauren Lyle to me today, and of course the much beloved Martin Compston who in Vigil for about 7 seconds."

Mr McGill and Ms Balfe first went public in 2015 on social media and were later photographed attending the 2016 ceremony for Jodie Foster's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

7.) The Handmaid’s Tale (underrated and so good, the dystopia, the characters, the storylines... everything was amazing about this show)

9.) Fear The Walking Dead (doesn’t really matter which one you watch first, this one or number 8, but they are still good. I’ll admit, I only watched it for Daniel Sharman and Alycia Debnam-Carey but stayed for the storyline and other characters)

10.) GLOW (underrated, hate that it was cancelled, but still worth a watch)

11.) High Fidelity (Zoe Kravitz... that’s all I’ll say)

12.) Castle Rock (underrated, but good)

13.) The Man In The High Castle (OMG I WILL NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT THIS SHOW. The dystopia is so good, the storyline is amazing, the characters!!! Please watch it, give it a try. I suck at explaining what it’s about, but go to google or IMDb and get a description or summary of the show and you’re good. (or just trust me and watch it right away) SO GOOD. 

14.) The Expanse (underrated. such a masterpiece please watch)

15.) Normal People (all the tears...)

16.) Downton Abbey (my favorite period drama, The Crown could never.) The amazing characters with complex storylines. The power this show holds over me, I am so glad Netflix finally added it, please watch it.

17.) House (I will always come back to this show) House is truly iconic.

18.) Penny Dreadful (watch it)

19.) Supernatural (the last season disappointed me, but thankfully there’s many more seasons that make up for it. Please watch it)

20.) Hemlock Grove (yup, watch it)

21.) Person Of Interest (so sad Netflix removed it, it is truly underrated. The characters are amazing, this is such a good show, please trust me)

22.) Rectify (When the actors themselves love the writing and characters, you know it’s a good show. Give it a try, it is truly underrated.)

23.) Dark (God, just watch it. A masterpiece)

24.) Orphan Black (Tatiana Maslany holds my heart, a true icon that made this show what it is. Please watch it)

The amount of “sexless bridgerton headlines” I’ve seen today. They should’ve never made S2 this apparently chaste to begin with, but I’m so confused as to why Netflix would lift the embargo 5 days early and allow for a full work week of this press. And Netflix usually lifts their embargos like 2 days before the premiere, regardless of the show’s quality. The reviews are solid but not glowing like S1, and they all invariably highlight the lack of sex.

I think that's the thing, right--even the very positive reviews of the show highlight the lack of sex. And while that's not inherently a bad thing, and some of them like that, it's still going in the headline/tagline because it'll get clicks lol. Which I get.

The thing about it is that I tend not to blame Netflix Above for that (the sexlessness that is) because Netflix is widely known as the hands off streamer. They don't step in with productions very often, and I imagine a Shondaland show that did gangbusters in s1 would get even less interference because they'd trust that Shondaland knows what they're doing.

Who knows why the embargo lifted further? Maybe they wanted to show confidence in the product?

Again, I think the issue isn't the level of sex, right? There are tons of very sexless romances that I LOVE and find very erotic. Pride and Prejudice 2005 is iconic. My favorite new movie in months and months is Cyrano, which has... what? A couple of passionate kisses? But I do think that when you set people up for "explicit" versus "erotic" with your previous season, you're going to have a bit of a shock to the system. Imagine if Outlander had toned down the sex from s1 to s2 that much. They toned it down simply in that there were fewer scenes and somewhat less nudity, and they still got shit for it.

One of my absolute favorite things in Outlander is the soundtrack. I love it to bits! Bear McCreary is an absolute genius. Also, I appreciate how the show changes its theme song every season – it’s truly very creative. Raya Yarbrough, McCreary’s wife and the singer of Outlander’s iconic “Skye Boat Song,” always sounds beautiful and glorious no matter what style. My favorite version is still the first half of Season 2 – love how they translated it to French as the show took place in France that season. As for the music, my all-time favorite is a three-way tie between “Fallen Through Time,” “The Wedding,” and “The Veil of Time.”

Season 5 soundtrack is out now (and it features Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton singing a heavenly duet of “Clementine”). It’s simply amazing. I listen to the entire soundtrack while I work, and it honestly helps me get by!
