So I've been playing Echoes of the Eye for a while now, and I still have a lot to discover but as the resident furry/monsterfucker I have to say, I'd 100% kiss the owl people. They're tall and scary, which honestly would be enough for me, but also they're weirdly polite and make some banging tunes. They look like they're very soft to the touch, and like they're great huggers. Overall 10/10 creatures
#while we're on the topic#the Hearthians arent really my type but theyre cute#the nomai tho are just as fuckable as the owl folk#i just love these silly guys with their silly antlers and kissable faces#tho the owls don't really have. lips at all. id kiss them on the forehead then#also also while were on the topic of the dlc its so fucking good im going to scream#i replayed the base game first before i visited the stranger cause i missed this game so much#i have almost 100 hours of gameplay#i think I'm gonna hit a 100 while exploring the stranger#like i have almost everything on the surface#and id say maybe like. half? 1/3? of the other world?#and i gotta say the owls have like. the best jumpscare ever#its terrifying when they see you and pretty much sneak towards you. n then they just grab you. like. okay#and they look like theyre gonna eat you but they just. kick you out of their silly world#jumpscare perfection#outer wilds#echoes of the eye#monsterfucker#teehee#bee buzz

outer wilds is so strong it is literally the first media In existance that i loved enough to make my blog be themed after it. i have an ow url. b4 this i literally never had a fandom url and i never had a fandom themed blog. aside from my hamilton roleplay side acct on quotev.com when i was 11 but thats neither here nor there.
#i have loved 1 singular video game equally and its of well hold on. 2 other video games#1. kirbys eoic yarn which will be my number one favorite video game until the day i die. outerwilds ending felt like a religious experience#tl me. it genuinely changed me as a person.and yet kirbys wpic yarn number one#rhe lther game is plague tale both kf them bc i love them smmm i think theyre below ow tho. so like 3rd place.. even tho im like mentally#unwell abt them. and i think of my top 3 games ive cried THE MOST lver plague tale#im getting choked up like. currently. as we speak. bc i thought abt king hugo again. oh my god. oh my god.#i think its funny my top 3 games go from Game ive never cried over -> game i have cried over once kr twice-> game where i literally had 2#repeatedly pause during the last ~2 hours of the game bc i was sobbing too hard to see through my tears.and the same at numerous times#earlier in the game. and during the first game as well LOL.#ik plague tale is a much more acquired taste than epic yarn which is literally jusr fun. and if u dont like it you judt dont like fun.#and ow which ive Never met somebody who played outwr wilds and didnt get crazy abt it. ive never even met somebody who just felt so-so abt#outer wilds MUCH LESS someone who truly didnt like it#whereas plague tale yk. i could understand not liking either game.for like any number of reasons#And yet. its so good to me

TIMELOOP GAMES REAL!??!??!!
hi i made a timeloop game called In Stars and Time and this is a whole post about other timeloop games you can also play.
some i liked. some i loved. some i didnt like. all are worth playing and like also listen the second friends and family heard i was making a timeloop game, i got bombarded with timeloop media recs. so here is a sampler in no particular order! NOTE: knowing some of those games are timeloop games is a spoiler. but. you are here. for timeloop games. so timeloop games you shall have
Outer Wilds

If you need to play one timeloop game, it's this one. Please play it blind. I swear to god you won't regret it. it's timeloops in space!!! it makes you think!!! there are so many "HOLY SHIT WAIT I GET IT NOW" moments!!! please just go play it please please please. some of the best environmental storytelling in a game. so many hints in plain sight. JUST PLAY IT
[way more timeloop games under the cut]
Oxenfree

I didn't actually like Oxenfree very much. But also it stayed in my mind for weeks after I finished playing it. that's how you know it's a good game. I really enjoyed the dialogue system in this, and how much the loop affected the characters. and it got so spooky!!!
Hikeback
i'm in the credits for this one because i was one of the inspirations heehee <3 i loved playing it… short little game about trust, self-sabotage, and never-ending cycles. highly recommend it
The Stanley Parable

Listen babes it absolutely counts. I replayed it a bunch while making ISAT, and I got immensely inspired by the dialogue, and how it catches you off guard sometimes? You get SO SO used to the narrator's "All of his coworkers were gone. What could it mean?" at the start of every game, and then for no reason instead it says "A soft wind blew outside and perhaps rain started, and if it did it stopped shortly after. Stanley hoped that he would one day see weather." like WHAT THE FUUUUCK IM GETTING CHILLS JUST THINKING ABOUT IT
12 minutes

ok i know we all made fun of this game when it came out because the story is batshit insane HOWEVER!!!!!!!! i REALLY REALLY LOVED how doing the same actions multiple times would have slightly different outcomes. If you battle someone, the first time you get knocked out in one hit and the loop restarts. the second time you try, you evade the first hit, but get knocked out. the third time, you last a little bit longer, and a little bit longer, until you can pretty much hold your own against your enemy. And it applies to so many things in this. Retrying different things to see how they would change was a delight.
this game is also so bad its almost good, and if you're interested you HAVE to play it with friends so you can yell about how bad it is together.
Zero Escape

it's just a good series ok. escape rooms, and also time loops! the 3rd game in particular goes deep into The Math of how timeloops would work, which i think is interesting. sometimes timeloop games just go "yeah you can timeloop dont worry about it" and others go "OK HERE'S THE HOW AND WHY IT WORKS" and both are interesting!
START AGAIN: a prologue

this game has almost everything i could wish for in a timeloop game. depression. lines repeating. dying brings you back. you get new levels and skills because you're aware of the loops but your party members don't. so you get overpowered next to them and they Notice. just. party members who dont know about the loops still noticing something is wrong. you are acting differently than yesterday. you look sad. you are acting weird. you know too much. how did you know where the keys were? how did you know this would happen? what's wrong? talk to us. and oh my god this game has a sequel? which will probably have Actually Everything i could wish for in a timeloop game? i can't wait. who made this? (its me i made this)
Ghost Trick

ok its not really time loops and more time travel and only for 4 minutes HOWEVER!!!! you should play it. you know you should play it because everyone says so. so go play it
Elsinore

im sure its a great game but ive never seen/read hamlet. so thats a failing on my part. because. you absolutely need to know hamlet to understand this game lol i did like the whole "make sure to find out which events are Important and which ones aren't so you can have The Perfect Loop"! very fun. or it would be. if i. knew. hamlet
The Forgotten City

a friend kept recommending it to me and i didn't like it. its good! just not for me. but if you like to think a lot you should play it. another "make sure to find out which events are Important and which ones aren't so you can have The Perfect Loop" game
Gnosia

Gonna be real. I didn't like the story very much, in part because the game lets you choose your gender but still acts like youre a straight dude. HOWEVER the gameplay was very inspiring to me. Every loop is pretty much just an among us meeting, and you have to find out who the imposters are or everyone dies and you loop again. and sometimes you ARE the imposter, so you need to make sure no one finds out. or you loop again. rules get added as time goes on too. i REALLY loved how quickly the loops stacked up. seeing "loop 100" was such a nice moment. ive been here so long! i tried to recreate that somewhat for my own game…
Loop Hero
Technically not a timeloop game, but a loop game. It still absolutely counts because it's about loops and memories, and what are loops and memories together if not a timeloop. You have your little guy going through a closed loop, battling enemies, getting cards, and making the world whole again by using those cards to make forests, towns, lakes come to life. I am famously a Story First Gameplay Second kinda player, but I did play this 45h for the gameplay alone. I learned a lot about battle balancing and randomness by playing this!
You and Me and Her: A Love Story
you know doki doki litterature club? this came before. and one might say. it's. better. in some parts (and i say that as someone who LOVED ddlc!) i won't say much except it's a dating sim but with timeloops. with a lot of what it implies. why are you dating this girl a second time? a third time? a fourth time? choose another one already! it was such a fascinating game to play, and is incredibly meta in the way it talks about dating sims and visual novels. had a lot of very impactful moments however, i played the hentai version. some of the worst, most cringy sex ive ever read and heard. however, one might say the sex is an integral part of the game and its deconstruction of hentai/dating sims…? no. just play the steam version which doesnt have the horrible sex scenes and you will have a great time i think (or play the hentai version. if you like. to watch. horrible sex scenes???)
Higurashi

knowing this is a timeloop game is a massive spoiler. however, this game is more than a decade old, so,,, honestly if you havent played higurashi what are you doing. i know i just spoiled you on it but i was also spoiled on it and i can GUARANTEE YOU that you will still have an amazing time. one more thing. you gotta play with the original sprites or you're a fake fan
I Was a Teenage Exocolonist
starts as a visual novel/management sim/dating sim kinda thing, until you realize that every replay is a new timeline. so the main character can save people, because they remembered about them dying in a previous one. i wish the timeloop would affect the game/story more (let me find a certain character quicker once ive found them in a previous playthrough!!!), but timeloop aside, it's a very fun game to play!!!
that's it! hope you will find a nice timeloop game you like

"Rude Awakening"
This one has some history... This is a redraw of my first every Outer Wilds comic!
I remember back when I created the first one... My boyfriend really enjoyed the game, so I decided to watch a full playthrough of it (Thank you Antoine Daniel)... fell in love, started deep diving into the lore, started making a few drawings... and a little bit after, I drew the first version of this comic.
3 years later, I looked at it again and... yeaaaaah it didn't age well. Hatchy and Slate had flat faces, their eyes too close togethet, their mouths were weird, they looked sooo stiff...
So yeah! I felt the need to draw it again!
This is a pretty recent comic though. I might post older ones here with time.
(So far I am enjoying putting text walls on Tumblr lmao. If you like to read the behind the scenes of the drawings, let me know!)

bobacupcake goty 2024 list
i dont know if all of these came out in 2024 but i played+finished them this year and i really liked them. also most of them are on sale rn

1000xRESIST - probably my goty. never played a narrative game quite like this one and is going to stick for me for a looong while. might be my favorite game since i played outer wilds (for different reasons, so not "if you liked outer wilds you would like this" but just. its very very good. ) 11-15 hours

another crab's treasure - just an incredibly solid soulslike. had a lot of fun playing this, characters and enviroments ruled, and i really cannot emphasize enough how good a soulslike it is. the aggrocrab team nailed this one. 14-22 hours
HalOPE - real sweet rpg. loved the characters loved exploring loved each area. if you like rpgmaker games really cant recommend this one enough really lovely all around experience. 4-ish hours

animal well - loved this one. great as a standalone metroidvania and then lets you go even further than that if you want. and really feels like wherever you decide to stop diving into it is a perfect place to stop. 7-17 hours but maybe more if you want :)

death of a wish - sequel to LUCAH born of a dream but is also playable as a standalone game. action rpg that takes some real cool swings. challenging (in a good soulslikey way), had a lot of fun with it and the characters and world. 7-ish hours (but more if you like cause theres a challenge mode !)

in stars in time - ok technically i finished this game on december 29th 2023 but like. come on. yougotta. you gotta play it. its good. trust me. its good. 20-40 hours
soul of sovereignty - ok wait if im including isat i also have to include soulsov since i also finished it december 2023. i think actually i finished it november 2023 i think. its ok were doing award show rules now. its really good. its really good. visualnovel , just the prelude for now but watch out! 2-3 hours

8 Games Which Made Me Bawl My Fucking Eyes Out (in the best way)

1. A Story Beside
Holy hell, I think the fact I played this one when I was isolating with COVID and terrified my breathing issues were gonna be permanent probably added to my complete sobbing breakdown at the end of this.
Every single chapter is a beautiful gut punch and the ending sequence where you guide Lyric back through her story? Heartbreaking.
2. I Was a Teenage Exocolonist
This is probably one of my favourite games of all time and certainly one I’ve sunk the most hours into.
The fact that your first run-through is almost guaranteed to be full of failure and missed chances just adds to the pain I felt.
But the bug in the nursery. That’s what got me.

3. What Remains of Edith Finch
I’m not sure there’s anything I can say about this game which hasn’t been said already.
Each new room puts another knife in your heart as you pull apart the seams of the Finch family curse with Edith as the last survivor.
Gregory was the moment I had to take a break to compose myself.

4. Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
While I think this remake took some of the teeth out of the original, this farm sim which spans the life of your character is full of heartbreaking moments as you raise your child.
Honestly, being allowed to be queer and nonbinary in this game made me bawl because I remember wishing to both be a boy and love men in the older games.

5. Dragon Quest IV
I could add several of the Dragon Quest games to this list, but after fighting the final boss for nearly two decades, beating this game had me sobbing for hours.
That last scene of Chapter Five had such a tiny little animation of our hero taking off his sword and that send me over the edge.

6. Bramble: The Mountain King
I don't know where to start with this dark folktale of a game. From tragic monsters to absolute gut punches following great unsettling scares, this journey to save your sister as a scared child ripped my heart in two.
The hell Olle goes through for his protective sister is dear to my heart as a nervous little brother myself.

7. Citizen Sleeper
The very concept of this RPG is haunting. A construct on the run from the corporation who took your body is sad enough, but the express love of humanity which runs through this? Beautiful.
I'm not very far through and it's already had me in tears twice.

8. Outer Wilds
I don't think I can say a single thing about this game without completely spoiling it.
Go in blind, but be ready for heavy and sorrowful themes. All I'll say is when you hear the ending theme, have tissues ready.

Best Character Stuck in a Timeloop

Propaganda for Link:
dawn of the "final" day
Propaganda for Hatchling:
catch me looping at the end of the universe ------------------------------------ Greatest time looper from greatest game ever made let's go babyyyyyyy ------------------------------------ They had to go through so much man, including a bunch of spoilers for the game. But one thing that is spoiler-safe is that their timeloop is caused by the sun going supernova, which is a very painful experience physically and emotionally, because the entire solar system is fucked no matter what they do. ------------------------------------ Outer Wilds is a very personal, almost intimate journey through the game's 20 minute clockwork solar system. You can't help but develop a love for everything there. And, of course, when you begin you assume you must be trying to *save* the world. But in the end you realize all you can do is play out the old world.

knock knock it's me again :3 here's my list of what I think the mercs' favorite video games would be if they lived in the modern day
scout: he LOVES ea sports. he buys like every title. his favorite is EA Sports UFC 3. unclear why.
soldier: literally just tf2. god knows how that happened. funnily enough he mains pyro.
pyro: power wash simulator. they have 50+ hours.
engineer: minecraft. nuff said.
heavy: he loves story-driven puzzle games- professor layton, the witness, outer wilds- but his absolute favorite is disco elysium.
demo: the legend of zelda. specifically the DS games. mostly just vibes on this one
medic: he likes "cozy games" like stardew valley and animal crossing but immediately starts doing digital war crimes from day 1. somehow.
sniper: afk mobile games. he doesn't like constant interactivity/engagement and prefers to just know that things are going on in the background.
spy: is "too old for that shit" (200 hours in the hitman series)
if youll allow me to add the npcs for myself
merasmus: skyrim, bg3, general fantasy gamer
ms pauling- hotline miami 1, great game after a long day of massacring people hey wait
saxton hale- wii sports resort and has broken the wall (and the wall behind it) with wii remites before

Hello Mr ForScotland,
Thanks for having a great choice in games[1] and being a decent[2] person[3].
Regards,
KnightOfBurgers.
———
Footnotes:
I watch your VODs on YouTube[4] and each playthrough either gets me excited to play the game myself, or fulfils my curiosity about a game that I either can't play (too punishing) or won't play (very similar to a game I've already played), or lets me re-experience my first playthrough[5].
Not meant as a slight. Decent with a capital D.
I think I found you via a political post and then found your Twitch. So the nice games were a bonus.
Time-zone issues + I can't find a good alternative client for Twitch.
Have you played Outer Wilds or In Stars And Time? I dunno if your schedule permits for non-recent games, but just in case...
Dear KnightOfBurgers,
Thank you for your impeccably formatted message. It was a joy to read, and I appreciated the footnotes.
I am glad you enjoy the VODs and Let’s Plays on YouTube, one thing I enjoy about being a variety streamer is getting to play lots of different games for people, especially if it’s a game they’d prefer to me play rather than play themselves.
People probably wonder about why I straddle the line between being a politics blog and gaming creator. It’s mainly because both of them interest me, but also because running a pure politics blog would generally be a depressing experience for a lot of people.
I don’t shy away from horrible news, and it is a good thing to know what’s happening around you, but I don’t think being blasted with all of the world’s trauma 24/7 is a good thing for people’s mental health.
If streams and VODs offer some respite from the barrage of bad news, then I’m happy with that, and we’ve raised a lot of money for good causes along the way!
There is no expectation to tune into every stream, I know timezones prevent that, and I really appreciate you watching on YouTube.
I loved Outer Wilds, I had a good time streaming it a few years ago before YouTube VODs were a thing. One thing I never got round to was the DLC, so maybe I should replay it!
I haven’t played In Stars and Time, would you recommend it?
Yours for Scotland,
Aye

I love Tunic because it slowly changes genres as the game progresses, you start off playing a cute little zelda-like, and as the story kicks up and combat gets harder it starts to feel more and more like dark souls. The game introduces darker plot elements, and demanding dodge timings, while decreasing the time between bossfights, eventually forcing you to decide between what equipment to bring into a new area, until act 2 starts, at which point any enemy can kill you in 2 hits and you're fully playing a souls game. And you think that's everything! AND THEN ACT 3 STARTS AND YOU'RE PLAYING FEZ. IT DOESN'T TELL YOU THAT YOU'RE PLAYING FEZ, YOU JUST SUDDENLY ARE. I HAD TO OPEN UP MY NOTES APP TO SOLVE A ROTATING PERSPECTIVE PUZZLE AND I GOT A VIVID FLASHBACK TO THE YEAR 2017, YOU CAN'T JUST DO THIS TO ME TUNIC.

LOOK AT THIS BULLSHIT AND TELL ME IT ISN'T THE PERFECT SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR TO FEZ. FUCK. THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST GAME I'VE PLAYED SINCE I FINISHED OUTER WILDS.
