I love Maya! I love her sm.

I see a lot of myself within her character. Like I do with Taichi and Kohei. That inner contempt for those you think have it easier in life because they don’t have the drawbacks you were given, such as a disability.

And given she’s disabled and has gone through so long in an ableist, hearing world, you can understand why she would be harsh towards Taichi since in her eyes he’s just using Kohei’s kindness to take advantage of a disabled person for free food.

She doesn’t want her or the people she cares about to het hurt by the ableist world around them so she puts up walls and drives people away before they have a chance to. Due to past and current ableist experiences she already assumes the worst of the hearing world, a place that doesn’t seem to take the effort to understand her or Kohei, and so she either doesn’t try or she actively pushes people away to avoid any more ableist harm.

I definitely feel like this helped set up themes that were very well explored in LIMIT which sadly I don’t think will get adapted.

It’s unhealthy. And it’s shown as unhealthy. And Taichi calls her out on it.

It makes it all the more rewarding when they she sees what Kohei sees. And sees Taichi isn’t who she thought he is.

Much like with Kohei. It makes it all the more rewarding when she realises she can be understood.

Specifically a parallel to the “it’s not your fault you can’t hear” line.

STOP HATING MAYA! God forbid a woman in a BL not be whole heartedly likeable the first episode she’s introduced.

Sometimes it’s clear when the new sunspot fans are there just because they’re from other bls and are there just to see taichi and kohei kiss/get together and not the depth, nuance and exploration that all the characters have.

Like they’re just there because it’s two boys who are gonna do the kiss.

Those bl drama fans when an imperfect, nuanced woman enters the chat.

I know what they say, that it’s not all bl drama fans but like. I’ve definitely seen enough with the reactions to Maya that are misogynistic and down right ableist. Just painting a disabled woman as a bitch for not being perfect and not liking taichi/being mean to him when she understandably thinks he’s being an ableist dick (just because we have an in-universe academic year to know their relationship doesn’t mean Maya does so it’s understandable that she’d defend her disabled friend if she thinks he’s being taken advantage of because of his disability).

Sometimes yall just hate the women and won’t give them the time of day to be nuanced.

I really like how in Limit Mayas use of calling Taichi a ‘dummy’ is more endearing. Like a sibling using it as a nickname in a way. They’re so siblings coded.

Do you think Maya likes Taichi? I can't tell whether or not she's starting to gain feelings for him (while being in denial about it/ avoiding it for Kouhei's sake), or it's similar to her admiration of Kouhei.

Gosh this question is one that brings out passion in me because I love Maya.

Personally I absolutely adore the thought that she might be developing some soft, admiring and maybe even tiny little crush feelings towards Taichi. He definitely touched her heart in ways that happened for Kouhei too, the easy understanding and compassion that he showed her that others would never even think of. 

From the specific chapter where she’s asked if she likes Kouhei, she says it’s not romantic so I think she’s got a complex mix of feelings inside her. Knowing how the two men feel about each other while they’re both despairing by themselves, what a heavy burden to bear tbh.

Realistically I think she admires Taichi but might have had some thoughts in the direction of romance because of what Kouhei has said to her.

I think if she did, it can’t be helped. With Tendou jumping immediately and giving them space to hang out (probably assuming Maya is the one Taichi is dating,,,,) and Kouhei’s words, the situation is a bit tense in that way. But all in all, I truly think it’s mostly adoration and Taichi’s existence might be giving her hope that she could find someone who understands her struggles too, just like Kouhei did.

It would still be super relatable if she got a little flustered because of things that Taichi does because it touched her heart, that might still be a possibility and maybe we’ll have a definitive understanding of her feelings soon. After all, there’s still three chapter to go in Limit. And two of them are already out in japan so we only have to catch up.
