WIP First Lines

I truly do love a good opening, so getting to share some first lines is a real fun one for me to be tagged in. Thanks @cypanache for tagging me.

For this I opted to limit myself only to my two most recent writing docs or this list would have been ridiculously long instead of just, you know, long.

Some of these may not end up being the actual first lines, but they are what I currently got there to start with. So with that said, and without further ado… SW, Obidala:

1.

A harmless invitation goes a bit sideways.

2.

He mapped out the constellations of far away worlds against her skin, no touch of his lips on her body seemed to be without purpose. Everything held a sense of meaning.

3.

It began, almost fittingly, with a double take.

4.

“We’re allowed our lapses, Obi-Wan,” she said, as if she could sense the conflict stirring inside of him. Her hair a mess of loose curls she tried to swipe away from her eyes. “They remind us that we’re human. And there is nothing wrong with that.”

5.

He dreamed in the deepest shades of blue; of the places brushed by grief, and the shimmering hue of her long billowy dress. She was his sadness made flesh. Not real, but tangible. To be felt. Always just that. For that was all that was left of her.

6.

She pushed herself against the wall, as he pushed himself into her. Urgency and a frenzied kind of madness had overtaken him at the mere sight of her. The seductive simplicity of her in nothing more than a barely there nightgown of sapphire washed silk and an unruly tide of tousled brown curls spilling down her bare shoulders.

7.

The proposal had been completely innocent. Well-meaning in its initial intent. The idea had come to her then and she had simply thought to ask. Really, she had thought nothing of it.

OUAT, Golden Swan

1.

“It’s quite the thing,” it mused, wearing an old forgotten face, a strange but perhaps purposeful choice for the Darkness to make, “to seek out and covet death. Not the ending one would imagine for a love story.”

2.

Her eyes are full of timeless tales. Some as old as time. Fluttering back into the present. Fragmented speckles of a lifetime of broken promises and stubborn hope, shaded in a spiraling landscape of glittering greens. The subtle dark jade of envy; vibrant emerald of a rebirth; an endless evergreen of love; and just the softest hint and budding pine of corruptibility.

3.

He kills the boy and rewrites the story. Starts by making them all forgot that particularly dark deed. His sickly act of cowardice and self-preservation. Then moves on to the next chapter of the tale by claiming a powerful queen from the proverbial game board to have and to hold by his side.

4.

“There’s a deal here.” “Still so sure of yourself, Miss Swan. No matter how many times you’ve failed to play a meaningful hand against me.” He looked amused. Maybe a tad too pleased with how the cards have fallen in his favour, yet again. “There’s no version of this where you come out unscathed.”

5.

“Your hand is trembling.” The sound of his voice seemed to jerk Emma from whatever trance she had fallen into. She turned sharply to look up at him, but there's a slight glaze to her eyes that told Rumplestiltskin that she hadn't come back fully just yet. 

6.

The Evil Queen doesn't mince her words. Takes—maybe a bit too much—pride in saying them to his face with a smirk smeared across her apple red lips. "A love like that will ruin you."

7.

He’s a fickle and jealous man, and so he makes the pirate stay dead.

Bonus OUAT, Golden Swan Queen:

1.

They are conflicted. He, by true love. She, a possible soulmate. What they wanted, what’s been saturated into their blood and bones and temperamental hearts, was now a liability to their happy endings.

Jumping right into it, I noticed that there aren't any video edits based on any cs fanfics (atleast, I haven't seen any- I'd love to see them though). So when writers block got the best of me, I decided to try my hand at fic edits.

During this process, I set myself a few criterias:

1. Use fanart as much as possible and try to avoid using scenes from the show.

2. Keep the use of Jen and Colin's pictures minimal.

I set myself these criterias as a lot of book edits (especially the ones on ig) tend to usually not use pictures of the actual actors. But instead, pictures of individuals with similar attributes.

Before, I stop my Ted talk *eyes bottom of the transcript jokingly* I just wanna say:

So @accidental-spice has told me I have permission to go off about Killian being a simp in season 4 of Once Upon a Time, and while my official log contains 92 instances of Killian's simpery, I will wait to share that with you until I finish the series and start officially posting about OUaT.

However, I made a list the other day that I would like to share with y'all right now: Top five episodes of season 4 of Once Upon a Time ranked in order of my favorite instances of Killian being a simp.

Special Note: I did not include 4.8: Smash The Mirror Part 1, because, while I am obsessed with how much simpery can happen in an episode where they don't actually interact at all, I feel Colin's portrayal of Killian in that episode deserves it's own post, which I will later write.

Anyways, without further ado, I would like to explain each addition to the list and why it is special.

Honorary Mention: Ep4: The Apprentice

This episode didn't quite make the cut for best moments, as most of them are overshadowed by Killian believing his hand is making him evil. However, there is so much I love about him in this episode: the way he misses the dartboard by, like, 73 feet when Emma asks him out, him sitting on Gold's desk, the fact that he's willing to make a deal with his centuries long nemesis to get his hand back- and not just so he can hold Emma with two hands, but, in his own words, it's in case "Emma should want [him] to hold her." He's not doing this for himself, he's doing it for her, and I think that's very simp of him and worth noting.

#5: Ep12: Heroes and Villains

For those of you who don't remember, this is the episode where, for the second time in his life, the Dark One had a wife who saved Killian from Rumplestiltskin crushing his heart!! While I could go off about how amazing Belle is in this episode, that's an entirely different post for an entirely different time. I love the scene in this episode when Emma gives Killian back his heart, and as soon as he gets over the shock of getting his heart back and actually can feel emotion properly again, he immediately kisses Emma and then reassures her that he's a survivor- a recurring phrase in this season that symbolizes that Killian isn't afraid to be with Emma, and she doesn't need to be afraid of losing him.

#4: Ep2: White Out

This episode truly has it all! You've got his beautiful response to overprotective Dad David ("Whatever Emma and I become, that's as much her decision as mine,") the whole "one half of the ship is captured or dying and the other half goes absolutely feral" trope, Feat. Killian trying to break through a wall of ice one foot thick with his hook, and then the inevitable "you're freezing to death so now you can't object to me snuggling with you, check mate."

#3: Ep23: Operation Mongoose Part 2

If Killian Jones in his normal state is a simp, then Alternate Universe Killian is a simp sevenfold. He literally only has six minutes of screentime with Emma and is a simp twelve times in that span of time, and then, of course, the "how many times do I have to tell you, love, I'm a survivor?" and then his hopeful expectancy at her almost "I love you" and then the angst at the end of the episode. I should also point out that the very moment Alternate Killian and Emma meet is eight minutes and fifteen seconds into the episode- and if you remember, 8:15 is the exact time Emma decides to stay in Storybrooke in the pilot episode. I just think that's neat.

#2: Ep16: Poor Unfortunate Soul

Oh gosh. I will never recover from the "you're my happy ending" scene. I cannot bear it. He's so sad, scared, afraid he's gonna lose her. And his little "don't you know?" Like, "Emma, my love, have I not done enough to hammer it into your head that you are everything good in the world to me?" (And don't even get me started on the idea of comparing "you're my happy ending" with "you were my new dream" from tangled just don't I can't even with this.)

#1: Ep5: Breaking Glass

Why this episode? This episode that's about Emma trying to reconcile with Regina? And with the flashbacks about Lily? And where Killian literally only shows up in two scenes? Because this is peak simp Killian- he runs an errand for his girlfriend, then leaves to take her son sailing. One can only assume that, at the end of the day when he drops Henry off at home, Emma's not home and Killian automatically assumes she's probably overworking herself at the Sheriff's station and goes to keep her company.

And then he gets there and she's clearly been through that stuff that day, and he. He gives her a drink and he's excited when he goes through her box of old stuff and throughout this entire scene he just. He looks at her so so gently. That is the only way to describe him- in this entire scene, he's so gentle. He sees that everything this day has thrown at her has been hard and he makes the choice to be soft for her. I don't know what it is about Killian looking at Emma so gently that warms my heart, but I've rewatched that scene at least ten times, and I still smile every time I think about it.

So there you have it! Top 5 season 4 episodes ranked in order of my favorite Killian simp moments! I can't wait to finish the series and make more posts like this one!

For Gossip Girl, what types of AUs do you feel tend to work and what types not so much? I actually feel like it’s a pretty good show for AU fics since the characters’ personalities are defined in a way where it feels like they would pretty much still be themselves even if their circumstances were different, but I’m curious what your thoughts on this are!

I definitely think it's a good show for AUs! For me, it comes down to the character archetypes. Like Liz's Little Women AU and Pride & Prejudice AU both work for me cause I think the archetypes all line up and everyone still feels like themself, even in the 1800s for the Little Women AU. On the flip side, someone once asked her about a OUAT AU and I don't think that works at all, because I don't think you can neatly line up the archetypes without drastically changing dynamics and personalities. But also sometimes it is about the circumstances as well? Like I jokingly talked about a Superstore AU once, and while I don't think a full-fledged AU would work because GG is just such a different tone and world, I like the way Liz did it, by taking the Superstore plot and inserting it into the world of GG, instead of trying to put the GG characters into the Superstore world.

Oh, and while I don't think a Hart of Dixie AU fully works either, I did a similar thing to what Liz did with her Superstore AU by just bringing a Hart of Dixie plot into the GG world, and while I don't think it works 100%, it's fun enough that I'm gonna share it anyway lol.

Oh, and also the next dair fic I'm planning is gonna be a big AU, but I'm gonna keep that close to the chest. Also, none of you are gonna know what it is anyway lolol.

9. A quote that you would consider getting tattooed. And then for the Leverage Crew.

Okay so I’m actually planning on getting a quote tattoo. Are you ready for this?

“She drowned in moonlight, strangled by her own bra.”

You may recognize that as the obituary Carrie Fisher wrote for herself. Carrie and I have the same birthday, and Star Wars was one of my favorite things when I was a kid. I decided at a very young age that Carrie and I were sisters. I’m planning on getting this done on October 21, aka our birthday, probably next year.

And yes, I am getting the tattoo on my ribs under my breast. Because where the hell else would I get it?

As far as the crew goes...

Hardison would get his own catchphrase. “Age of the geek, baby!” Either that, or *throws a dart at Yoda quotes*. In all seriousness, he’d probably settle on the classic, “Do, or do not. There is no try.” You can’t beat that.

Nate would probably get some... soppy quote about light in the darkness or closing doors. On a morbid, slightly cheeky note, “Nothing gold can stay,” from the poem. Because like... all good things end. But also, they rob rich people for a living. Aaaay, dad jokes! He was drunk when he got it done. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Eliot... okay so, I do see him as someone who would consider getting a quote tattoo. The problem is, I also feel like he would have a hard time settling on a specific quote. Because, like, this is permanent, you gotta really think about it. He’d probably end up getting some philosophical Art of Peace/Art of War quote. I have a quote I think he’d like, but given the source material, he’d never even hear it, let alone get it tattooed on him, because I have a really hard time seeing him watching OUAT. But, “A man unwilling to fight for what he wants, deserves what he gets,” feels like an Eliot quote.

Parker would probably get like. Song lyrics. I’m not sure what song but she would very definitely get song lyrics. Something fun and nonsensical. It seems meaningless but the quote means something important to her because it has some... specific memory associated with it, or something.

Sophie’s dramatic ass is definitely getting a Shakespeare quote. In a more fanciful universe she would absolutely get “To quote Hamlet, act III, scene III, line 92- “No!”” just to be cheeky. More realistically, I can see her getting “All they world’s a stage.” Or, because I’m still obsessed with Sophie-As-Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing, maybe “There was a star danced, and under that was I born.”

So I’ve done this for OUAT screenrants and I wasn’t planning on doing more than that. But then I saw this screenrant for SOA that kind of pissed me off to be honest. It screamed “I hate this female for being the female love interest” and I just really needed to rant about how much bullshit is in this list. So, without further ado - let’s react to this nonsense.

Tara came back to Charming to get away from a crazy stalker ex, yes, but I don’t believe it was so Jax would protect her. In fact she doesn’t even seek Jax out when she returns. And she doesn’t tell Jax about Kohn until Jax notices he is following Tara. Only when Jax literally asks who that guy is does Tara confess the truth. So she clearly didn’t come back just so “Jax would protect her”.

So apparently at 19 years old, Tara isn’t allowed to change her mind about what she wants in life and get out of a town and life that scares her? I mean this is apparently a shameless act, according to the title. It is apparently shameless that, as a teenager, Tara didn’t let her love for Jax keep her cemented in a place she was unhappy.

Dude. If you stay somewhere you are extremely unhappy with just for a guy (a high school sweetheart at that!) ... That’s just not something ANYONE should aspire for!

Now THIS is the one that pisses me off. Like really gets me angry. This is completely and utter FALSE! First of! Tara did not ALLOW Jax to do anything. Jax literally spoke to Tara for a minute then, without telling her what he was going to do or give her a chance to say anything about it, Jax walked passed her and shot Kohn. And what really pisses me off is this obviously affected Tara because she screams! Twice! In her horror at what Jax just did! Yes, she comes to accept it but she in no way played a role in this. Of course you’d never know that by the way the original writer describes it.

Again. BULL. SHIT. Tara did not return “in an attempt to have Jax intimidate or kill him”. And she did not “allow” Jax to do anything. He did it all of his own free will without even giving her a chance to stop him and it was terrifying to Tara at the time. All she said was that she couldn’t go through [almost being raped] again and Jax took the matter into his own hands.

To put ANY blame on Tara is not only blatantly wrong, but it’s also incredibly gross.

One of the ones I actually agree with. I hated the way Tara dealt with Margaret and I actually kind of wanted some ramifications from it. Sadly they ended up best friends which I always thought was really cringe... But that’s an issue for another day.

Hmmmm, I’m kind of split on this one. Because yes, while I do think Tara should have told Jax and tried talking things out with him before doing anything drastic, I also have a problem with it being on this list. I mean, this is a completely personal thing because in my opinion, whether or not Jax wanted the kid, if Tara wanted an abortion then she should be able to get it. And so to add it to her most shameless list (and so high) because she considered it is sketchy to me.

Again, I do kind of agree because I think Tara should have shared them with Jax but I again don’t think this deserves such a high spot. I also feel like it should be noted that John Teller probably would have agreed with Tara’s decision. Just because John no longer wanted Jax to be consumed by this life and Tara was avoiding it because she didn’t want him to fall deeper in the life.

I am actually a big Wendy fan. I love that she came so far and that she worked hard to clean herself up and that... But the fact is the way she came about returning to Abel’s life was shady. Tara raised and loved Abel for all the years she was gone and she never before tried to contact them. So to strut into Tara’s hospital room when Tara is clearly under a lot of pressure and to state that Tara needs to tell Abel Wendy is his mother... It’s honestly quite entitled and unfair. Now if Wendy had asked politely if she could be like an aunt to Abel or at least waited until Tara wasn’t already dealing with so much and Tara refused, I could understand. But as is, Wendy did basically try and push her way back into a life she openly walked away from.

Well I think this depends on who you ask. Personally I think this is one of Tara’s more heroic moments and was disappointed Jax couldn’t go through with it. Also, again, this seems kind of like taking all the blame off of Jax (who was going to commit the murder himself) and putting it all on Tara. She deserves some blame if you’re truly against this, sure, but definitely not all of it.

They’re Tara’s kids and if she doesn’t want them to see their grandmother because she’s involved in something shady, then Tara has every right to try and do that. I don’t agree with her basically saying if she gets dirt on Clay then she can see them, but bigger picture here. Clay was dangerous and Gemma was stupidly in love with him. Making Gemma pick her grandchildren over Clay and get a dangerous man away from her family... I’m just not seeing the shamelessness of it.

Another that kind of pisses me off, purely because of how OP describes this. 

Tara’s wasn’t doing this for “self-preservation”. She was doing this in order to get her children away from a dangerous and toxic life style. She was being a good mother and putting her kids first - even before her love for Jax which was still evident eve when all this was going down.

She didn’t do all of this when she was “threatened with prison time”. In fact she prepared for if she had to go to prison, then Wendy would get custody of her sons and get them away from SAMCRO. It was only when that original plan failed and Wendy proved to be a inappropriate choice (aka, falling back on the drugs) that Tara then decided to make a deal to avoid prison so she could get her sons to safety. Otherwise her sons would have ended up either in foster care or with a Sons supporter/member, and I don’t actually know which one would be worse. Again, all of it was for her children!

In Summary: This just feels like this person hates Tara and will literally take every thing she does and turn it into a reason to hate her. It’s annoying and a lot of it is just plain false. Now I actually was not a Tara fan originally. I liked her in Season 1 but in season 2, 3, and 4 I didn’t like her at all. It was only halfway through Season 5 that I started liking her again. So what I’m saying is, I think there are plenty of legit things that could have been on this list (off the top of my head? How about shaming Lyla for being a porn star?) but the things OP has chosen are either exaggerated or simply bullshit.

Once Upon a Time  1x01 ‘Pilot’ Review

First off, I just want to say thanks for reading and following me.  Ever since OUAT ended I’ve wanted to do some sort of rewatch and voice all the opinions I had originally but had no outlet for.

This will be a spoiler-free blog review, so I will be doing my best not to allude to future episodes, characters, or plot points for those that are watching the series for the first time.  

Episodes that take place in the past will be referred to as the Enchanted Forest (EF), present day will be Storybrooke (SB), unless taking place somewhere else. If/When timelines start getting a little screwy, I’ll deal with it then.

I will have sections in which I talk about firsts that happen in the episode, it won’t be spoilery, but mentions of things that we will be seeing a lot of in the future.

Also, because I’m a name nerd, I’ll be getting into all the names characters are given when they are introduced and how they apply to their Enchanted Forest character (only to the ones that this applies to).

Also, this is my first time posting something so long, so hopefully I did it right. So, without further ado, my review of Once Upon a Time, Season 1, Episode 1, “Pilot”.

Synopsis:

Emma Swan is found by the son who she gave up for adoption 10 years ago and he brings her to his hometown of Storybrooke.  He claims all the people that live there are fairy tale characters who have been cursed by an evil queen to never find their happy endings.  That evil queen just also happens to be his adopted mother!

So first off, I wanted to say that the Enchanted Forest scenes are gorgeous!  We have Prince Charming galloping across the beach on a horse, we have the whole Glass Coffin/True Love Kiss scene in the forest with flower petals just raining down.  We have Snow’s castle and the amazing shot of the wedding with Snow and Charming on the dais with a little canopy and just surrounded by their people.  Even just the scenes of Snow leaning against the balcony of her room and the War Council room are just wonderful to look at.  For a show that uses a ton of CGI, I don’t tend to notice it at all.

So let’s talk about the characters.  Being that this is the pilot we were introduced to a lot of characters for exposition purposes.

Prince Charming: We don’t know much about him except that he woke Snow White up with True Love’s Kiss.  They apparently already know each other (which is not necessarily true for the original Grimm’s Fairy Tale version), so he’s not just some random prince coming to kiss a princess.  He and Snow seemed to get married pretty quickly, and conceive Emma pretty fast (or maybe Snow was already pregnant when they got married)! He’s also very brave as he’s not afraid to go up against the Evil Queen or her guards.  Plus, he’s pretty badass when carrying baby Emma in one arm and fighting off the Evil Queen’s guards in the other.  He looks like he didn’t quite make it to our realm, but then we see him in a coma at the end.

Snow White/Mary Margaret Blanchard: I’m so glad that they made her older.  In the Grimm’s version she’s seven and in the Disney version she’s 13!  I’m not sure how old she is supposed to be here, but she looks to be around Emma’s age (in real life she was 32 when this was filmed), which seems a little old for a princess to be getting married, but we haven’t seen her backstory yet. I love that Snow also seems to be very brave as she immediately takes out Charming’s sword when the Evil Queen makes her entrance and she does not back down. Snow announces that she is no longer the queen there. So it’s no surprise that as Mary Margaret in Storybrooke, she is shy and meek and can’t hold her own against Regina.  The curse has made her timid as a mouse (or a bird).  She has lost her happy ending.  She has no love (from the people or from Charming), and she is extremely lonely.  Although one thing I’ve noticed that seemed odd is that Snow seems very pessimistic and Mary Margaret is the one full of hope.  Snow has everything but can’t see the light at the end of tunnel while Mary Margaret has no one but knows that things can only get better.

Emma Swan: She is a complete badass just like her parents.  We first see her doing the honeypot trap as a bail bonds person (more on my opinions of that later) and completely turning Ryan out on his ass. She doesn’t put up with anyone’s shit.  We find out later from her conversation with Henry why; she has no one.  She was left on the side of the road with just her baby blanket, was returned after being adopted by a family into the foster system, and then lived in bad situations until she aged out of (or ran away from) the system. So Emma clearly has abandonment issues. This also shows us why she wants to make sure Henry is loved and raised by someone who loves him and why she decides to stay at the end.  She doesn’t want him to end up like her. Emma also has a superpower that lets her know when people are lying, which must come in handy doing bail bonds.

The Evil Queen/Regina Mills: I know I keep using the word badass, but she is such a badass queen.  You can see she doesn’t take shit from anyone and will do anything to reach her goals. We don’t know why she hates Snow so much (Snow mentions that it was because she was prettier than her, which is based off both versions of the story), but I really don’t believe that someone would hate someone that much based off of their looks, or would curse a whole population because of that (although, that may be more because they are now under Snow’s rule and not hers anymore). Regina is no nonsense as well.  She’s kind when it gets her what she wants (drinks with Emma, making sure she’s leaving), but the second Emma decides to stay Regina is callous and vicious.  She also terrorizes Mary Margaret and puts her down. The jury is still out on how she feels about Henry.  She certainly seems pretty concerned when she goes looking for him at the sheriff’s office and when Emma returns him home (both times), but Emma certainly senses that she is lying when she asks Regina if she loves him.  It may be that she’s not capable of love or doesn’t truly understand how to love Henry given her past.

Henry Mills: He’s a pretty straightforward character.  He somehow finds Emma, despite it being a closed adoption, steals Mary Margaret’s credit card and charges it without her knowing, and sneaks away from Regina several times.  He’s also seeing a therapist which seems to discredit him slightly in Emma’s eyes. Although, it seems he’s seeing a therapist due to his relationship with Regina and not the curse, since Regina doesn’t know he knows about it.  He’s pretty much our narrator.  I’ll have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of Jared Gilmore.  He’s not a good actor and he tends to take me out of the story.

Rumpelstiltskin “The Dark One”/Mr.Gold: Very creepy.  Seems to be insane in some way.  Very interested in learning how the most evil, vile creature of the Enchanted Forest was captured. We learn his penchant for making deals and dealing in names (similar to the Grimm’s fairy tale in which the miller’s daughter had to guess his name to save her firstborn). He tells us about Regina’s curse, that it will take everyone to someplace horrible, and that Snow and Charming’s child is the key to breaking the curse.  He also wants to know the child’s name. This is important later as Mr. Gold.  When he is introduced to Emma you can see a brief flicker.  I’m pretty sure this has broken his enchantment and he now knows who he is. I know some people aren’t sure if this is when it happens, but I’m pretty sure he built this in to the curse somehow. As Mr. Gold he owns the town, literally owns everything. It looks like Rumpelstiltskin may be the only character to have a happy ending besides Regina for the most part.

Archie/Jiminy Cricket: No last name yet.  He is Henry’s therapist in Storybrooke and Jiminy Cricket in the Enchanted Forest.  How he becomes human when he was once a cricket remains to be seen. He does mention to Henry about giving into his dark side with his lying, which we also hear him say as Jiminy back in the Enchanted Forest. He has a dalmation, no name mentioned their either.  

Graham: All we know about him so far is that he is the sheriff of Storybrooke.  No clues as to who he might have been in the Enchanted Forest. But he seems awfully close with Regina.

Grumpy/Leroy: Definitely lives up to his name in both realms.  First seen in jail as Leroy for his drinking.

Questions:

One thing I noticed with Snow is that her coffin dress and her wedding dress both have feathers on them.  Is this because of her affinity for birds or does Snow White just like feathers?

Why does Charming yell ‘Hey!’ before throwing his sword at the Evil Queen?  She may not have seen it coming otherwise.  Maybe he believes in not stabbing someone in the back.

I honestly do not understand the honeypot trap that Emma does to catch a skip.  Why would someone, who is trying to evade the law, put his profile online to try and find a date when they should be getting the hell out of town?  And especially Ryan who is married! Why is he putting his information online when he is a wanted person?  Is he that desperate for sex?

Emma was adopted as an infant and then given back to the system at age three when her family got pregnant.  Who the hell does that?  As parents how can you just give up a baby you’ve raised since infancy up for adoption because you’ve now become pregnant?

What is this wolf in the middle of the road?  Is this why people can’t leave?  Does this wolf come out and scare them every time they try to leave?

Regina’s curse is very thorough. Not only did she have to create new names and personalities for everyone, she had to create jobs and infrastructure and all that goes with a town in a realm she’s never been to.  How did she know everything that would be needed? How was this curse created in the first place?  I know I’m breaking down the basic construct of the show with these questions, but it bothers me.

Observations:

It’s so nice that the storybook illustrations barely have the faces drawn in so Emma can’t see who everyone actually is.

Emma’s birthday candle is a blue star.  She just needed “When you wish upon a star” playing in the background.

Snow and Charming waste no time getting pregnant.

Somehow, Snow and Charming know the sex of their child while still in the womb.

There is a power surge when Emma open her car door for the first time in Storybrooke.  

We see flying monkeys from The Wizard of Oz and the Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland when Emma crashes into the Welcome to Storybrooke sign after discovering Henry left his book in the car.

The War Room scene includes Snow, Charming, the seven dwarves, Geppetto and Pinocchio, Granny and Red(or at least who I assume is Red Riding Hood as that’s what she is wearing), and the Blue Fairy.

Only one person can go through the wardrobe.

Snow apparently goes into labor early since she was supposed to go through the magical wardrobe while still pregnant.

Leroy is singing “Whistle while you work” in the jail cell.

One of Mary Margaret’s students gives her a pear instead of an apple.

Snow tries to kiss Charming awake after he’s been stabbed, even though it wasn’t a curse that hurt him.

Emma’s key for Granny’s B&B has a swan on it.

This series could have been presented one of two ways.  We could have had Henry trying to convince Emma that Storybrooke was full of fairy tale characters without the aid of the flashbacks.  Then we as an audience would have had to guess on our own if Henry was seriously delusional, or if he was telling the truth.  But the creators decided to do it Lost style (since they were writers on that show), in which we got the flashbacks of the characters, leaving no doubt that they were indeed the fairy tale characters from Henry’s book.

Mary Margaret Blanchard: Mary means wished for child.  In the Grimm’s version, her mother wished very much for a child. Margaret means pearl; they are usually white.  Blanchard means white.

Regina Mills: Regina means queen in Latin.  Her last name Mills could be her possible origin.  Possibly the miller’s daughter from the Rumpelstiltskin story who needed to spin straw into gold.

Mr. Gold: Rumpelstiltskin is able to spin straw into gold.

Operation Lunchbreak

 Henry leafed through the pages of the storybook the way most people would read their family scrapbooks- because that's really what this book was. In these pages, he read tales of adventures, of magic, of quests for glory- of princes and princesses and shepherds and bandits and queens and wizards- of his own family.  Today though, he was thankful that they didn't need to be any of those things. There were no unredeemed villains unchecked in the town, no menacing curses looming on the horizon. Today, Henry could just be a normal kid- well, as normal as you can get in Storybrooke.  One of his moms was hard at work at the mayor's office, the other hard at work at the Sheriff's station with grandpa, grandma was spending her day off from school tending to her baby, and Killian was… well, he was most likely doing something useful.

Whenever there was danger in town, he'd be right on the front lines, or else in the library helping with the research aspect of their crisis of the week, or just giving mom the moral support she needed to save the day.  Henry smiled when he thought about how happy his mom was when Killian was around. He brought so much light and joy into her life, and it made Henry happy to see his family happy.  Besides, Henry enjoyed being around Killian too. They spent many Saturdays sailing together, and in the times when he needed help with things that moms just couldn't help him with, he'd turned to Killian for advice.  As Henry re-read again the epic adventure of "Prince Charles" and "Princess Leia," he heard a metal knocking at his door.  "Come in!" Henry said, looking up from his book a little and seeing Killian enter. When he saw that the pirate held a spatula, he sat up, immediately concerned.  "Oh no." Henry said. "Don't tell me you're gonna try cooking again."  "Granny's has been closed for repairs for three days." Killian said. "Emma's had to spend half her lunch break making her lunch each day. So I want to learn how to do it for her."  Henry raised an eyebrow at him. "Didn't mom ban you from the stove after the spaghetti incident?"  "Considering I've barely looked at a kitchen in two hundred years, let alone a kitchen with all these newfangled gadgets and thingamabobs and rubber spatulas in it, you should be applauding me for how little damage I caused. Besides, I'm not the one cooking."  Killian threw the spatula to Henry.  "Me?"  "Regina said you're quite skilled at cooking, so I figured I could learn from an expert."  "I'm not that good," Henry said, but he closed his book, and stood up, spatula in hand, "but I think we can make this work."  "I'm ever in your debt." Killian said, holding the door open for him. "After you."  And with that, Henry and Killian embarked on a new quest together- Operation Lunchbreak.

How long have you been in the CS/OUAT fandom?

I joined the fandom on Tumblr summer of 2016. I binged OUAT summer of ‘15, then joined tumblr after meeting @flslp87 and @duathadun over on Facebook.

When did you start shipping Captain Swan?

I loved them from the beginning. When they met in The Doctor. I was gone for them when she grabbed him in Tallahassee. And they were my forever, ride or die, I’ll go down with this ship, OTP in Good Form.

What drew you to this event?

It’s my baby! After a discussion about 16mos ago with @snowbellewells about the lack of werewolf fics out there, the idea was born! Last year’s event was such a success and so much fun, that we decided to do it again this year!

Who/what have you beta'd before, or is this your first time?

I started betaing, I guess, about 2 years ago. If I’m not mistaken, it was for @donteattheappleshook’s continuation of her then 2 shot Of Cars and Bars, still one of my all time favorite fics... damn, now I need to go read it again... I’ve since betaed for @branlovestowrite , @hollyethecurious , @artistic-writer , @doodlelolly0910 , @courtorderedcake and @ashar663 who has deactivated.

What are you looking forward to most about participating in this event?
