Today...is a very special and important day for me, folks~💝😊Three years ago, a certain special troll became the highlight of my 2020 during rough times and immediately won my heart from the moment I knew he would have his own destiny and journey to find others like him...and his family. Since the first Trolls movie, I have always admired dearly him from afar and the moment I saw him during the Trolls World Tour trailer, my heart literally poured out him and I have truly loved him for just being his wonderful, lovable self ever since~💘🥹 And that certain special troll, is none other than...Cooper~💗🌈✨

I have always been a big fan of him and he’s always been my favourite troll to begin with but every time I see him and hear him, my heart always beats so much for him, making it aflutter and words cannot describe how special he is to me...how he means the whole world to me~💞🌈💗🌈💞I mean...can you blame me? >//w//`< How could I resist and say no to such an adorable face to go with such a darling like him??💖😍💖😍💖 Cooper is more than just the goofball that we all know and love...he’s my goofball and so much more...~🥹The most amazing troll with such talent, a unique voice and a dazzling yet loving royal family to go with him...~🌟Cooper is also the prince of my heart, who deserves all the love and happiness in the world...and I feel so blessed to be the one to give it all to him, along with my heart~🥰💝💝🥰 April 24th 2020 was the day I drew Cooper for the very first time, and when I started shipping myself with him. And together, him and I have remained strong and inseparable ever since!🫶🏻😌💕We’ve had such happy memories together - becoming part of his world and family, sharing one another’s lives and music, even officially marrying and creating our own dear little life together~✨💜💗💚✨And I wish to keep on loving Cooper forevermore~💓😊

Sexuality Headcanon: Kokichi, to me, is mostly gay. i say mostly because i think he'd be attracted to a woman once in a blue moon. she'd have to be pretty Special, though. (i think he had a genuine crush on Kaede in v3)

A ship I have with said character: i've really come around to Kokichi x Kaito after recently completing v3. i don't know that it's a Hardcore OTP for me but it's super thematically fascinating and i'd love to see it explored (IC-ly). Kokichi x Keebo is a little Cute too

i can't write so here are some thoughts

i feel like my philosophy re: top/bottom n ship order is biased by like. my feelings regarding OTP. bc outside OTP or even outside lysandre i just don't rly have strong feelings about it. like i have my general preferences (liking sub top n Dom bottom, liking subverted expectations, liking big subs n big bottoms with smaller Doms n smaller tops) and there are ships where i have strong D/s preferences (whether actual D/s or like. dynamic. vibes. who is Calling The Shots in bed even if it's a casual thing and not a whole BDSM affair) but i just can't get myself to care about who puts what in who. like this just feels completely divorced from like. The Dynamic. to me. and i know that for a lot of people it is Not divorced and top = Dom (similarly whether actual D/s or vibes) but i just cannot subscribe to this. it is beyond me

it's funny when thinking about OTP bc inside me are two creachers and creacher1 wants lysandre's hole to be obliterated and creacher2 wants augustine to call the shots but creacher2 recognizes within himself that augustine sycamore would also want his hole obliterated so sub top lysandre needs to be in the equation. which is how i actually end up writing lysandre topping more ‼️‼️‼️ lysandre would simply want to make his Dom happy above anything else ‼️‼️‼️ who am i to refuse him this

the funniest thing to me tho is that the way my preferences work constantly contradict like the appeal of prfr is the subverted dynamic but also augustine is older. whereas for example in tachio the subverted dynamic is that tachibanana is younger but oda is his loyal dog who will do anything (some restrictions may apply) for him and i want that dynamic to also follow them into bed which means that in this case the power dynamic is actually Not subverted it's just unusual to begin with. does that make sense

anyway in closing if i could never cross paths with t/b discourse ever again it would be too soon but alas i am a glutton for punishment. among other things

AH I love Inuyasha too - it was one of my favorite anime to watch after school when I was younger! And I adore Sango - probably very obvious heh.

Aaaaaaah Patchy x Ushijima!!!! I can totally see it. Although I think Bokuto & Atsumu would be very good fits too - they’d definitely go above & beyond & try to spoil you rotten! And Bokuto is such a ray of sunshine ready to light up your world - you both are so kind & genuine, you’d have such a pretty relationship together. Asks me on a date and the rest is history! That or I work with Kuroo, and he bothers me relentlessly and one day I agree to go to a MSBY game with him and meet the team for PR purposes and... yeah 🤭

And Patchy x Sero apparently is quite popular, which I never thought would ever be the case, but here we are! I remember a moot doing match games and they tried to not pair people with their faves but just COULDN'T not do that with me cause evidently we are so good together. So knowing other people agree makes me feel pretty good~ 😏

IkeSoren Week Day 1

This is set in my Askr universe for the first winter holiday festival based on my interpretation of each game's canon. My interpretation of the Tellius series can be found in my Affinities Series on AO3.

My work is always “no beta - we die like men” but I’m scheduling this ahead of time and wrote it in a few hours because I wanted to do a little something for Ike/Soren Week since they’re my first OTP, but I’m not going to be in town during Ike/Soren week. So, it’s extra no-beta as a 1st draft. I may clean it up and throw it onto AO3 sometime.

Holiday - Winter Festival in Askr

The night before the festival, Soren left the library late into the evening. There was some party going on, but he didn’t want to be bothered with it. The gifts would be exchanged the next day, and the library had been gratefully empty as the others had gone off to enjoy the festivities.

“Soren?” A voice called out, Ike’s voice, Ranger Ike’s voice in particular. They had been summoned to Askr several months ago to help fight against Embla, but the fighting had come to an end a month ago, in time to prepare for the winter festival. From what the summoner had said, they had been summoned from the same world at the same time, a few months after Ashnard’s defeat, the day before Ike was set to return Ragnell to Begnion.

Soren turned to the other end of the hallway. “Ike?”

Ike smiled and walked over to Soren. “I didn’t see you in the great hall, so I figured you were here.”

“Do you want to go back now that you’ve found me?”

“I’d like to spend the time with you.”

The sincerity of the statement and the softness of Ike’s voice cut through Soren. He felt his heart pounding in his ears.

“And I don’t think you want to go, otherwise you would have been there already.”

Soren nodded numbly.

“Are you all right?” Ike asked.

“I was planning to go to bed,” Soren said.

“Mind if I walk back with you?”

“That’s fine.”

They walked in silence down the numerous long halls to the wing where those summoned from Tellius were staying.

“I think the decorations are nice,” Ike said eventually.

“They aren’t all in terrible taste,” Soren allowed.

Ike snickered. Soren blinked. “Leave it to you to be a harsh critic.”

Soren shrugged. “They’re better than whatever Duke Tanas used in his villa.”

“Is there anything about the festival you’ve enjoyed?”

“I suppose the food Oscar’s been having us try has been agreeable.” Soren looked up at Ike. “What about you? Is it to your liking?”

“I think I’ve enjoyed the food most myself.”

They arrived at the empty common room that had doors leading down to the different hallways where the rooms were.

Ike looked down at Soren. “Hey, Soren?”

“Yes, Ike?” Ike’s face was flushed red and his energy was nervous.

Ike reached a hand out to Soren, but pulled it back before laying it on Soren’s shoulder. “Soren, I- I’ve been thinking a lot lately.”

“About?”

Ike cleared his throat. “What- what you mean to me.”

Soren’s eyebrows jumped up. “What do you mean?”

“Soren, you- you’re important to me. You’ve always been special to me and I don’t- I’ve never really thought much about it before beyond that all this time.”

“And?” The rest of the world fell away as Soren waited for Ike to respond.

“Well, I- You-” Ike looked into Soren’s eyes. “I really- I-” Ike’s hands clenched into fists by his side. “I find you really attractive- and I- you mean so much to me. I can’t imagine not having you in my life, by my side.”

Soren felt his cheeks flushing. “A-attractive?”

Ike nodded. “I’m sorry. I don’t know why I do. I just- I- Sometimes I forget everything else when we’re talking and the idea of holding you in my arms is really- ever since the war against Ashnard ended, it’s sometimes the only thing that relaxes me enough to sleep. And I- you’d figure it out eventually, right? So I- I figured I ought to tell you.”

“Ike,” Soren muttered. He leaned forward and rested his face against Ike’s shoulder. Ike wrapped his arms around Soren almost immediately.

“Soren?” Ike asked. “Is- I’m sorry. I- what- what do you make of it?”

“Make of what?”

“M-my feelings. You-” Ike huffed in irritation. “You know what I’m trying to say, right?”

Soren pulled back from Ike enough to tilt his head back and look into Ike’s eyes. A bright blue that rivaled the sea in both brilliance and depth. And yet, it was clear to Soren what Ike was feeling. Soren nodded minutely. “I do.”

“And?”

Soren’s eyes glanced briefly upwards, spying the mistletoe hanging in the center of the room above them. Ike turned his head to follow Sorens gaze. Ike let go of Soren almost immediately and swore out loud.

“Sorry, Soren, I didn’t realize- I forgot that was there.”

Soren reached out to Ike and tugged him closer, wrapping Ike’s hand around his back. Ike seemed to understand and held Soren tightly again.

“We- we can ignore it,” Ike said.

“You-” Soren’s face flushed red a little as he realized Ike’s focus kept breaking to glance briefly down at Soren’s mouth. Ike felt so tense. “What if we didn’t?” Soren suggested.

Ike’s eyes widened.

Soren felt so weak suddenly, as if he could only stand because of Ike’s grasp. His head spun at the idea. “I- I must admit that I- feel the same?” His voice became so light and strained as he tried to force himself to speak, despite feeling like he couldn’t breathe.

“Soren,” Ike muttered, reaching out a hand and brushing Soren’s bangs out of his face. “You really mean it?”

Soren nodded, feeling electricity pulse down his body from where Ike’s hand was cupping his cheek.

Ike swallowed and then darted his head forwards, the way he did things when he was nervous, but trying to get through what he felt like needed to be done. His lips crashed down on Soren’s and Soren inhaled sharply through his nose. Soren balled his hand into Ike’s tunic to stop Ike from pulling back, and they both relaxed into the kiss. Ike moved his hand back from Soren’s cheek to the back of Soren’s head, fingers tangled in Soren’s hair.

How about Paulinchen (aka Harriet) for the ask meme?

For those of you who are unfamiliar, Der Struwwelpeter is a German anthology of stories for children written by Heinrich Hoffmann in 1845; each of the tales concern children either misbehaving or not taking care of themselves, often with disastrous or gruesome consequences. Paulinchen/Pauline of "Die gar traurige Geschichte mit dem Feuerzeug/The Sad Tale of Pauline and the Matches" is absolutely no exception.

Favorite thing about them: The fact that she has talking pet cats! (Or at least that's what the story seems to communicate). I've always thought that was so neat and I wish that I had the ability to communicate with my pets or at least understand what they're saying.

Least favorite thing about them: I mean, not to say that pretty much all of the stories in Struwwelpeter aren't dark to some extent to get their cautionary theme across, but her story in particular is just so sad and disturbing. Even though she shouldn't have played with matches, she didn't deserve to burn until she was nothing but ashes. And this is coming from someone who gets nervous around fire and thinks that burning alive is one of the absolute worst ways to die.

Three things I have in common with them:

I have really long hair (something I have in common with the ways she's depicted in some of the illustrations)

Three things I don’t have in common with them:

I've never caught myself or something else on fire.

My cats can't talk.

I've never played with matches.

Random Headcanon: I really like @suppenkasparcrazy 's rewrites of the tales in Struwwelpeter, as they are far less disturbing than the ordinal tales yet retain the cautionary aspects. In their version of "Pauline and the Matches", Pauline does still catch on fire after her mishap with the matches, but the flood of tears from her feline companions puts out the fire before anything disastrous can happen, and she still learns about the dangers of playing with matches. As I prefer to align with this version of events, I have a headcanon that Paulinchen avoided matches after the incident, to the point where she got nervous around fire, even the smallest of flames, as well as matches, of course.

Unpopular Opinion: Okay, this opinion may not be necessarily unpopular, per se, but, as I stated above, her fate was overly gruesome and, although she should have faced the consequences of engaging in something so risky in some way, she shouldn't have burned to death. To be fair, none of the children who were punished for their actions deserved to be punished in such outrageous ways (I initially thought that the racist kids who were dipped in ink were an exception, but then I remembered that they were only children and most likely learned their ways from the adults around them. Struwwelpeter really went above and beyond when pushing their cautionary agenda, and I'm wholly convinced that the purpose was to scare children into looking after themselves and listening to adults. As we have learned so much more about children over the past century and a half, such as how impressionable they are and how they should be taught about the consequences of their actions in ways that don't frighten them out of their wits, I believe that, if Struwwelpeter had been published today, the children in the stories would have survived and/or learned less deadly or emotionally scarring lessons about not misbehaving.

Song I associate with them: I unfortunately can't think of any at the moment. Unless it's "Girl on Fire" by Alicia Keys, but that would only be as a (vary dark) joke.

These particular illustrations for Struwwelpeter are my favorites, and this is my favorite depiction of Paulinchen. I love the arsenic green of her dress, her braids, her hair ribbons...it's so delightedly Victorian! And of course there's her cats trying to appeal to her.

When I started shipping them:

Definitely their team-up scene vs Female Titan/Annie. When i saw not only how strong & skilled they were on their own but how well they worked together to accomplish their goal despite having grievances with each other? I knew they would be unstoppable and at that point my ovaries didnt stand a chance the ship launched at lightspeed for me.

My thoughts:

As i allude to above, there's nothing i love more than a couple that makes a great TEAM above all else. Mutual respect and teamwork makes the slutty dream work amirite??? Plus that added tension of enemies to lovers/i hate but begrudgingly respect them makes it that much more exquisite- i just feel this dynamic can only lead to an even deeper bond that is so RIPE for smutty exploration ;D

What makes me happy about them:

Just the thought of them together makes me horny ecstatic teehee

What makes me sad about them:

That Mikasa's character development was basically thrown in the trash by the end- especially from a female perspective. All these indications that she finally outgrew her blind devotion to a man/her character didn't solely revolve around a man were ultimately meaningless and its a crying shame. Upon reflection, i had such an averse reaction to this treatment of her character i found it difficult to be active in the fandom (beyond the occasional anti snk ending shitpost) so yeah....THANKS ISAYAMA

And Levi's ending? Well at least his character overall was left unscathed, but damn where he ended up felt cold as ice- like, why of all ppl would he ended up with the Marley kids & Onyakonpon??? Why not with the ppl who, i dont know, he risked his life to save time and time again, that he's known from years and from the same place as he's from???

Well, "annoy" is a strong word but (and this goes for all my OTPs) whenever Levi (or either party actually) comes off...uh, rapey? Dom! is one thing but when the line bleeds into...let's call it "dubious consent" i dunno...it really takes me out of it. Boromir for the character ask?

favorite thing about them: Honestly? His focus. He's a problem-solver. He focuses on whatever task is in front of him, and while he's the golden child, I honestly don't know if he'd be the best fit for Steward because he seems to be at his best when he's thinking about concrete solutions to discrete problems.

Oh! The other thing is that he evaluates the advice given to him for what it is, not based on the authority of the advisor. He’s not going to accept bad advice just because it comes from a trustworthy source, and he’s going to be honest about his thoughts. So he’ll trust and respect the advice of the council of Elrond, but not to the point where he doesn’t ask questions or question things that don’t make sense (I’m thinking about Caradhras here) It’s a good skill to have as the de-facto heir to Gondor, and it makes sense that he’s not in awe of elves or Gandalf and acts among them as a guest but also as an equal at least in political status, though his experience is vastly more limited.

At the same time, he’s not arrogant or haughty. He's a team player. He’s supportive of decisions for the most part, though where the ring is concerned, things get skewy. He’s not the kind of person to rub mistakes back in your face. He’s compassionate and understanding (which we see even in the way he treats Frodo as he strives for the Ring).

least favorite thing about them: Honestly Boromir doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I suppose his positive traits are also double-edged swords. Focusing more on the advice than the giver sort of has Feanor vibes? And you can see where his focus leads him when he talks to Frodo about why he wants the ring and how he would use it. He can see his corner of the world (Gondor) and his place in saving it (political, but primarily military leadership), and it’s his practicality, drive, and focus that the Ring exploits. He’s too busy thinking about what he must do to save the day that he misses the grander scheme (yet he’s doing it because he cares! he cares!).

brOTP: Um, Faramir, I guess. Though I guess it’d be kinda sweet if he’s got a brotherly relationship with Bergil. I can easily imagine Bergil hero-worshipping Boromir, and so I think it’d be sweet if Boromir did acknowledge him and know him by name.

OTP: none? look, I rarely ship and even more rarely out of canon.

unpopular opinion: boromir has dark hair Sean Bean is an actor he’s not the only face

So I feel like there’s a bit of a structural problem with the LotR fandom. Characters are often written in pairs or as foils, and inevitably the comparison starts to turn towards “who’s better?” Then, if you don’t ship them, there’s a tendency to aggrandize one character’s virtues and minimize their flaws (which tends to happen everywhere), but then the comparison game starts. Because they have a paired character, the natural next step is to lionize your favorite by de-emphasizing the other character’s strengths and virtues (and sometimes also highlighting their flaws). (I’m not immune to this by far, btw, and am possibly about to engage in it.)

This happen the most with Frodo and Sam, but I think you also see it in Boromir and Faramir. Because obviously, in the books, Faramir is the golden child. Not in his father’s eyes, of course, but narratively speaking. And I have mad respect for him.

Most people don’t try and diss Faramir (because frankly. it’s hard. like, what are you going to say?), but there’s a tendency to downplay the fact that Boromir is his culture’s golden child, and Faramir...isn’t. Which isn’t to say Faramir isn’t beloved by those who know him, but his strengths are not valued in the same way that Boromir’s are. Faramir knows this. And given Boromir’s attitudes discussed above (how confidently he assumes his position in the world), I can’t believe he’s the 100% supportive, loving, sensitive, protective brother that fanon depicts him as. I don’t see how he can be.

Don’t get me wrong, I do believe the brothers love each other deeply. But growing up with siblings has taught me that it’s possible to love someone and yet be deeply wounded by them due to the casual and inescapable intimacy of your relationship? You can share more inside jokes and weird stories than anyone, yet you can never get away from how deeply they know you--not your thoughts, but who you are at home and who you were when you were seven and how you acted when someone broke up with you or what you did when your parents were furious.

You also know exactly how you match up against them, because you will always exist as a unit. And because your relationship is as natural as the lens  in your eye (you can’t imagine viewing the world without it), you forget about the other as a person and just say something and don’t think about how it hurts them. You can joke about this one thing and your sibling can carry around the hurt for years and you didn’t even know. And maybe the hurt isn’t even your fault--maybe they were just sensitive and you had no way of knowing, but the hurt doesn’t go away for the lack of malice. And even best-friend siblings are capable of malice towards each other at times.

So Boromir is good at things that Faramir isn’t, and Boromir knows it. He’s probably ribbed his brother in what he thinks is a playful way about when you’re going to shape up, or do X, or do Y, or why do you do that, anyways, or do you realize that’s a little unbecoming? maybe you should stop that. You know Father’s going to think that you’re... And he doesn’t realize how those slights can add up over the years. I do think he’s said things to his peers about his brother that have ended up hurting him. No matter how pure and nice he is, that sort of thing is unavoidable, and due to his cultural upbringing I don’t actually think he’d question the appropriateness of his attitude/acceptance and glorification of martial prowess at the expense of those who don’t have it in the same degree.

I think this passage is really telling:

For on the eve of the sudden assault a dream came to my brother in a troubled sleep; and afterwards a like dream came oft to him again, and once to me. 'In that dream I thought the eastern sky grew dark and there was a growing thunder, but in the West a pale light lingered, and out of it I heard a voice, remote but clear, crying:          Seek for the Sword that was broken:          In Imladris it dwells;          There shall be counsels taken          Stronger than Morgul-spells.          There shall be shown a token          That Doom is near at hand,          For Isildur's Bane shall waken,          And the Halfling forth shall stand. Of these words we could understand little, and we spoke to our father, Denethor, Lord of Minas Tirith, wise in the lore of Gondor. This only would he say, that Imladris was of old the name among the Elves of a far northern dale, where Elrond the Halfelven dwelt, greatest of lore-masters. Therefore my brother, seeing how desperate was our need, was eager to heed  the  dream and seek for  Imladris; but since the way was full of doubt and danger, I took the journey upon myself. Loth was my father to  give  me leave, and long have I wandered by roads forgotten, seeking the house of Elrond, of which many had heard, but few knew where it lay.' 

There’s so much you can read into this. Faramir has this dream, and he has it many times. We know he’s a lover of lore and no less devoted to his kingdom than Boromir, though his love is expressed differently. He is “eager” to heed the dream. So would I if I was having prophecy dreams all the time.

But is Faramir a member of the fellowship? No. Why? Because Boromir “took it upon himself.” He wanted to do it, he thought himself the better candidate (and Faramir the worse), and he argued his way into doing it against his father’s wishes. Coupled with Denethor’s later attitude towards Boromir, I’m inclined to believe Boromir was uniquely able to obtain this quest for himself because Denethor has a soft spot for him.

I find myself inclined to disregard Boromir’s account of Faramir’s motive (”how desparate was our need”), because it sounds like he’s justifying the appropriateness of his actions.  If it’s just about the great need of the kingdom, it’s nothing personal that one brother goes and the other stays. That view implies  that Faramir’s interest in this mission is primarily utilitarian in purpose, with a little academic curiosity--that is, it’s nothing personal. Doesn’t matter who goes! Not as long as we protect the kingdom! Which...just doesn’t square with his description of Faramir having repeatedly cryptic dreams that he wants to understand. I can almost guarantee that Faramir wants to know what those dreams meant more than Boromir.

It’s a bit tragic, because ultimately Faramir was more suited for the quest than Boromir (tramping about in the wilderness doesn’t seem to be a problem, he’s also a team player, and he’s much more willing to accept the power of the Ring/not downplay its personal danger, and would be able to see it in a bigger picture beyond just Gondor). Ultimately, though, if Boromir was the one to catch Frodo in Ithillien, the story would have a veeeeeeery different ending. (Gollum would likely be dead, and I can’t imagine he’d be inclined to just. let Frodo and Sam go free.)

I kind of view their relationship as a much less antagonistic version of Agravain and Gwalchmai from Gillian Bradshaw. (Agravain is more of a jerk than I can ever imagine Boromir being, and has a wicked temper). 

Also none of this is to say that I don’t think he’s not protective of his brother.

So a lot of words to say: I don’t think the Boromir and Faramir relationship is as uwu cinnamon roll as it seems in fandom. I think they loved each other, but I think Boromir did have a tendency to take what he wanted when he thought he deserved it and not give it a second thought, even when it was at the expense of his brother. Sure, he’d defend his brother night and day, but I expect him to be a bit of a jerk, be unaware of the extent of his behavior, and also see little wrong with it (the ring quest seems to have crossed a line, by the way he justifies it).

Still, they do love each other deeply and genuinely. It’s just a little more conflicted.

Not a particularly creative association (and I don’t associate him with Connor at all), but his death comes as such a shock at the beginning of TTT and brings with it so many mixed feelings due to both their relationship and the circumstances of his death. Nobody’s mourning is straightforward: not Frodo, or Denethor, or Faramir, or Aragorn, or Merry, or Pippin. His absense is woven throughout TTT and even RotK, in plot and in emotion and in theme.

All that being said, answering these questions about them seems very difficult to me right now, but I'll try because I owe it to their awesomeness.

Ashlyn:

favourite thing about her: she is literally the brightest star but she's always so supportive of literally everyone else; also, she dabbles into so many things, which, as a translator, I appreciate a lot (since, you know, translators are supposed to have basic knowledge of anything and everything) - she's basically my kind of person, I'd 100% try my hardest to be her friend if I went to East High with the gang

least favourite thing about her: umm, I like everything about her? Like she's literally a gorgeous human being who can do no wrong... ok, maybe I didn't very much appreciate her disclosing information that was shared with her (and the rest of the girls) in confidence (I mean in 2x10 when she told Big Red what Seb had confided in the girls about his issues with Carlos), but it's not like she announced it to the world. She shared it with her boyfriend, which is at worst a case of good communication gone a tad too far, and at best just good communication.

favourite line: this one's really hard because I can't pick just one. Guess I'll have to go with 'So meek, so mild, sword' because I think about that one a lot for some reason, or alternatively 'You walk into a room' because of the matter-of-fact way she said it - she was not trying to pay a compliment, just being genuine and saying what she believes to be the truth (and she was not wrong)

how i feel about this character:     i literally cannot express how much LOVE my knucklehead ninja boy. i added him on a whim like . maybe two-ish years ago ? and i was NOT expecting just how quickly he captured my heart. i’ve always been a sasuke and shikamaru stan so my ass was like ://// fr ????  naruto ?????  what a LOSER ????  but then i started writing him and i went ????!!!!!!  he’s one of my comfort muses fr.  i just feel myself slipping into a better headspace when i’m writing him.

all the people i ship romantically with this character:     god romance with naruto …… he’s so affectionate and really just falls head over heels so quick ?  but my favorite pairings in no particular order are gaanaru,  nejinaru,  sakunaru,  sasunaru,  and shikanaru !  i know naruhina is like . The ship for a lot of people but idk i’ve never really enjoyed it beyond being a cute one - sided crush / idolization that hinata eventually grows out of, and the existence of boruto only exacerbates that skdjkds

my non-romantic otp for this character:     see above !  what i like so much about naru is that he loves so so so deeply whether it’s a platonic or familial or romantic relationship !!!  beyond those friendships,  i really love the mentor - student dynamic he gets with iruka,  jiraiya,  and kakashi !  also really like the broship he’s got going on with konohamaru:  that kid is pretty much his little brother.

my unpopular opinion about this character:     i’m not really sure what popular opinions exist tbh ?  i guess that something i’ve kinda seen floating around that i personally disagree with is the idea that he’s a bad father because he never grew up with any parental or mentor figures in his life.  you’re telling me that naruto, a literal orphan who practically raised himself, DOESN’T know how damaging it can be to have absent parents ? that he isn’t aware of how important a parent’s active involvement and presence is in their child’s life ?  i personally feel like what i’ve seen of his relationship with his wife and kids in boruto COMPLETELY butchered his characterization.

one thing i wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:     get rid of that rebirth / reincarnation thing.  i hate it a lot !!!!!  completely undermines everything naruto stood for and everything that made him appealing as the underdog of his story.

Favorite thing about them: Despite this character's story being incredibly dark and tragic (something that is quite normal in Struwwelpeter) and him losing rate at an impossibly fast rate, I think that the story does highlight the dangers that come with eating disorders and why they should be taken seriously, a message that remains just as relevant to society over a century and a half later.

Least favorite thing about them: Just the fact that he lost all that weight SOOOOOOO fast. I mean, it took just five days before he died! Either he has the world's fastest metabolism or Hoffmann really went above and beyond to scare children into eating their meals. I'm betting on the latter.

Three things I have in common with them:

I love food!

I usually enjoy soup.

I have struggled with disordered eating in the past, and I still struggle a bit with body image.

I've never tried to starve myself to death.

I am not a boy.

I've never really been plump or overweight to the point where it's been concerning.

Random Headcanon: The story never states why he suddenly starts refusing to eat his soup, or anything else for that manner, but I've always had a strong feeling that it was because he was beginning to feel self-conscious about his weight or that other kids were picking on him because of his size. @suppenkasparcrazy, you also had a similar idea. So in a more optimistic version of events, Augustus/Kaspar survives and learns to be kind to himself and keep himself healthy by following a nutritious diet and exercising and not engaging in dangerous habits, which is also an important message to share with kids.

Unpopular Opinion: I don't have one at the moment, so instead I'll share another interesting fact about myself. I first discovered "The Story of Augustus, Who Would Not Eat His Soup" in a book I've had ever since I was a child, called "The Book of Virtues". It contained a bunch of stories aimed at children that taught valuable life lessons concerning compassion, self-discipline, honesty, etc. I was in elementary school at the time and I thought, "Wow, this is disturbing." There were, in fact, quite a few stories in there that were sad and/or disturbing, such as "The Little Match Girl". Several years later, as an adult, I discovered Struwwelpeter and recognized the story, and thought, "So that's where it's from!"

The following is probably going to be uninteresting for most, aside from those truly curious about how I perceive my own involvement in a fandom; how I come from being on the receiving end of reading to being on the creators’ side, in particular here about DC Comics, and where my nearer future is going to take me, fandom-wise (which, at this point in this sentence even, not hard to guess).

Two years ago, I genuinely thought Marvel would be the next big fandom for me to get sucked into. I really did. But... it only took one year for me to fall out of it again, heavily so due to disappointment in content given to me.

Yet I truly did not expect for my next big fandom obsession to be DC.

That’s not meant as a dig on DC, DC has just always been kind of... casual with me. Even when I was heavily obsessed with it the first time around, during Smallville, that never got me involved in the fandom beyond reading.

But somehow, the introduction of Kate Kane into the Arrowverse fundamentally... changed something for me. I don’t even know what or why, I’ve had two Kara ships before her that I heavily obsessed over and read about and with characters who got much more shared screentime with her. But something just clicked for me there - and Kate/Kara was just a spark, igniting something much, much bigger, because the moment I started writing them was when I really, truly realized that I get to... cherry-pick the canons and rewrite them to my liking, combining elements I encountered in various different iterations in a truly magnificent frankensteinean manner.

Which is ridiculous in itself; I know that very well, I have been doing that for many years now, in different fandoms. But it took me doing it once for this fandom to make things fall into place and for me to become greedy - I have experimented so much already in this fandom! I’ve only been an active writer for this fandom for a year now, but I already played around with a dozen different ships as main pairings; and not even... centered around one and the same character.

Normally, my entry point into a fandom is that one chosen favorite character, the one I love above all others, and I want to write about them, specifically. I’ll have my one main OTP that I love more than the others, but aside from a few exceptions, that character is fair game in various other ships that center around them. That’s how it’s always been, with every fandom (including Marvel, which may have added to my falling out; the death of my favorite character).

My favorite DC character... is Clark Kent. Superman is my favorite hero, period. I have yet to write a fanfiction that centers around him, or a ship with him. I’m over thirty fics into writing for DC and I have yet to focus on my fave. That’s more than unpresidented, it’s... baffling.

I kind of forgot. Well. Not forgot, you don’t forget your fave, but because the Arrowverse is my main entrance point into DC, I perceived it as Kara being my vocal point - she is my second favorite DC character, she has her own show, she was featured in the majority of ships I have written for now.

With that perception, that it’s Kara for me here, I’ve... quite honestly made my peace with dropping out of this fandom in 2021; Ruby Rose left Batwoman and with her did Kate Kane disappear - half of my OTP that I have been most productive for since I started writing for this fandom - and then the announcement hit that this would be the final season of Supergirl.

But then something happened. Superman & Lois started airing. I was very on the fence about watching it at all, but I’m glad I did. It reminded me, of the thing I had nearly forgotten; that Clark Kent is my favorite character, that I love him... even more than I love Kara (though Kara is a very close second).

At which point I noticed that it’s so weird that I haven’t really read anything Clark-centric since the Smallville days. So I figured... before I go into fanfiction, I should go into... canon. And I made myself a list, of every comic that features my Clark-centric OTP.

Superman & Lois started airing exactly a week ago. I am now over 1.2k pages into DC comics, I have consumed over a thousand pages of comics in just one week. And I am not a big reader, I don’t read much, not even with pretty illustrated pictures.

And though all the comics I picked were chosen due to featuring my OTP, consuming all these comics has made me realize a very, very fundamental, but simple, thing about DC.

I’m not in it for a specific character, or a specific ship. I’m... really... in it for the world.

Even when my OTP was only a sidenote, I was enthralled by the story around it, got excited about every new hero I got to meet for the first time, or different iteration of a hero I have already met. And even when I run out on the comics on my list, I am already itching to read more - more Superman comics, more Wonder Woman comics, Supergirl comics, Bombshells, Gotham City Garage.

I love DC for its world, for its many compelling characters and their interactions and dynamics and the different worlds/timelines/interpreations of said dynamics and characters. There is so much to love, beyond just one character or one ship.

It did take Kate Kane to enter the Arrowverse to spark my motivation to write for DC, because she offered something I direly wanted at that point in the story (a person, just for Kara, who makes her smile again, after all she has been put through). But there is just so much more than just her, or just them, that I am itching to explore and that I have started exploring in shorter fics already last year. And now, after I realized just what it is that appeals to me about DC, that - the writing of many different ships, involving different characters - makes much more sense to me.

Because I have my own DC world stuck in my head and there are core elements I need and want in it, elements involving many different characters and ships, and I want to use them all. But I also want to explore my very own version of the multiverse; explore different ships for the same characters, or just various divergences of that world in my head. Which in itself isn’t different from how I approach any other fandom; many ships, many alternate takes on how they get together. But there have never been that many... set headcanons and pieces of canons from different sources for different characters that come into place and build up one fixed, missmatched world for me.

I don’t think DC is going to lose its grasp on me any time soon after all, if anything, it’s going to pull me in deeper once I dive head-first into the comics. And beyond exploring the canons there are, I want to create my own Earth for it and thoroughly explore it.

1. What OTPs in your fandom do you just not get? I did answer this before but I think upon reflection it's probably Thane. I don't emotionally understand, and some of that is surface-level stuff with me just not finding drell physically appealing, but a lot of it has to do with my inability to reconcile with his... frankly, deadbeat dad performance in regards to Kolyat. Not to get too personal, but for specific personal reasons, deadbeat/absentee dad stuff makes me furious. Sympathetically, I want him to grieve for his wife and recover, I want him to bond with his son and really try for him in the sunset of his life. I know a lot of people get a lot out of Thane and a romance with him, and I think it's beautiful that they find peace in his themes of acceptance, finality and inevitability. I can see those things in that, but I don't feel them myself, and personally I think that's a flaw with me rather than with the character. 2. Any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP? That'd be Shakarian, I think. I see Garrus as a super tight best friend who I want to see find happiness, but I don't see it as being with "my" Shepard, anyhow. I've done the romance path, I can see it, I get it, totally understand it - but I don't feel it for myself. It's that transformation from that state to romance that doesn't emotionally track for me. Garrus is one of my Shepard's closest friends, and they share a truly incredible bond, but it isn't a romantic one, for me. I feel like, with my Shepard, there are ghosts of the 'what could have been,' between them, much more from Garrus' side of things. I think he had a crush on "my" Shepard for a while, but saw she was interested in other people that way, and wanted to see her actually happy more than he wanted to chase an idea and is pretty comfortable having put that thought to bed. 4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP? Mmm. My NOTP is Joker/EDI and as I mentioned before, I wrote a big massive thing about why. It is popular in the sense that it is the canon one. Honestly, I don't put my feelings about it onto anybody else; they are my feelings, but it genuinely does actually upset me a little bit to see content related to that. I'm mildly embarrassed to admit that, but it's true. It irks me that in most group fanart shots, their relationship is presented in that way. It genuinely puts me in a bad mood. It sucks, because I love EDI as a character, and I love the banter they have between each other, but I've had to block her character tag as well as any other tags I can think of relating to that pairing. I won't block any tags relating to just Jeff himself, but that's a minefield sometimes as well because occasionally that content is posted just tagging him. Feels bad, man. 5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you? Only in relation to the above. It's hard to find platonic stuff to do with Joker and EDI just... bantering or discussing personhood between themselves from their own unique perspectives. Canon kind of ruined EDI for me in 3 by giving her a silly fembot body and pigeonholing her. Canon ruined her for me much more than fandom ever did, but it's the reinforcement of all that from fandom that really has made me kind of allergic to content dealing with her and that sucks. I tend to form my own views about ships and pairings and all the rest of it. I wouldn't say Shakarian has been ruined for me by fandom, but fandom has made me more wary of it than I'd like to be, and that's because Shakarians can have some truly nutty devotees that go beyond passion and into like... aggression, and even spite towards other characters? I don't like the way a lot of Shakarian treats Kaidan, for example. The way Shakarian treats Kaidan can really, really get my back up, because I love Kaidan and I just don't see him as this like... bitter, possessive person like fandom can sometimes make him out to be.
