I'm kinda torn on timothy getting a new prosthetic because, yeah, having two hands would be convenient and the circumstances are a bit different from when he got the hyperion hand BUT at the same time I feel like not replacing that hand is kinda healing for tim in a way?

He's spent the past decade in a body that's been changed so much to the point where it's not even his anymore, including his own DNA. I imagine that when he lost the hand he just felt detached, like he just lost something that wasn't even his own to begin with so who cares. Getting a new prosthetic would mean changing his body yet again and that would be hard to accept

Holly Jolly Secrets Part 2 was the big moment in changing Ice King's character from a comedic recurring antagonist into a tragic figure, but I vaguely recall that it wasn't THE moment that completely made him a subject of fandom emphasis. At the time, I remember a lot of thoughts about how it recontextualized his obsession with princessses and the nature of the ice crown and made him pitiable, and caused people to show him more empathy, but it wasn't the particular moment that REALLY changed opinion on him completely

THAT moment was 'I Remember You'; the revelation that Marceline knew him somehow, his uncharacteristically apologetic and passive demeanor as she desperately tries to reach out to him, and the culmination in that Simon Petrikov, before he completely was subsumed into the persona of the Ice King, had taken care of her when she was a young child.

At the time, I remember that there was a lot of speculation on who Simon Petrikov had been, and there was a lot of thoughts and tragic feelings about the loss of a kindly man who loved his fiance, but we didn't know much about him PERSONALLY. He seemed to exist to highlight the horror of what he'd become.

I Remember You completely contextualized him all over; we knew Marceline had a father who was AT BEST horrifically negligent, and that she had a lot of grief in her past, but few people thought that they actually knew each other. (I, at the time, thought that it was a nice idea but unlikely given the scope of Ooo and the time frame involved. I WAS WRONG) We arguably saw the first solid hint of who Simon Petrikov had been, and it was arguably the true establishing character moment for him; a man half-destroyed by a magical curse and spotting an abandoned little girl (who was clearly nonhuman) and immediately went out of his way to comfort her and take care of her. Simon Petrikov went from being a posthumous character of sorts to completely changing Ice King's character from what seemed like the only other known human in Ooo destroyed by a magical curse, to being a genuine hero who was Marceline's adoptive dad.

for someone who was surgically altered to look just like him, timothy's definitely a bit different from jack when you get a closer look. literally and figuratively.

where jack's definitely aged, timothy's still fit and the wrinkles hadn't set in yet

where jack is genuinely acerbic and crude, timothy puts on the act only to fold after the fact

maybe. maybe he's a bit jealous of tim's relative youth compared to himself, but instead of lashing out, he compliments (very loosely used here bc it's not reciprocated by timothy) on his looks, and since he's his doppelgänger, he's admiring himself too.

perhaps, to him, he's looking at a version of him where he was at his prime. that version, however, wants absolutely nothing to do with him.
