diversion
───── c!dream x f!reader
─── 0.3k, fluff, pining, crime, mild language? more of a vibe than a fic
─────── too sleepy to work on the actual heist jnsbhdgja
trying to pull off a heist, you needed a diversion. luckily dream has one right up his sleeve...
---
a heist in broad daylight was no easy feat. while you stuck to a table with sapnap, dream and the others were scattered across the room, blending along with the other patrons.
george fitted right in - ordering a plate of shrimp and expensive looking pastries.
you had to admit that you were nervous but you hid it pretty well as you tried to focus on the band of violins and accordions playing a gentle tune in the corner, eyes drifting away every now and then.
you hadn't imagined the architecture would be this breathtaking when you were looking at its blueprints.
you could see why they would choose this place to showcase a bunch of incredibly expensive rocks. well, diamonds.
they had plastered ethereal paintings onto the domed ceiling and the floors were a foggy pink shade of marble.
if it wasn’t for all the candlelight scattered across the room, the room would probably be flooded by natural sunlight coming from the tall windows, decked with velvet curtains. it showcased the green shrubbery outside, the well kept garden and the odd greek statues with no limbs.
at first, you had mistaken all the marble for gold, or something so valuable you would probably take the time to scrape it off and pawn it. in this economy? yes.
suddenly, sapnap snapped you back to reality, leaning onto the table.
“we need a distraction,” he said, standing up. karl followed suit, a nod from sapnap suddenly plucking him from the crowd. they disappeared past the table of patrons and down the corridor.
with a sip of champagne, you leaned back in your seat and caught the dream's eye on the other side of the room.
suddenly, the blond stood up and walked over to the quartet playing in the corner of the room, leaning in to whisper something to one of them. any other trained eye would have seen how he slipped one of them a wad of cash. what was he doing?
your eyes never left his as he made his way over. dream stood before you, and you felt compelled to take his outstretched hand. “what are you doing?” you whispered as he led you along the center of the room, hand fitted nicely in his.
he doesn’t answer instead he reached for your other hand, delicately leading you in front of him, slender fingers on the curve of your back. you knew what was happening and tried to clumsily slip in your hand on his waist, likewise, but he offers you his shoulder instead.
“this is going to sound cliche, but i literally don’t know how to dance.” you had to whisper the words in his ear.
you two were so close you could smell the hint of expensive cologne on him, trying to play the part of rich and fancy to every last drop.
“just follow my lead.”
a ping on his communicator distracted george’s attention from the forming scene.
(sapnap) what are they doing??
(georgenotfound) you said you wanted a distraction
(georgenotfound) you’re getting one
(sapnap) FINALLY those two needed to get their sht together
you were stiff as an anvil in his arms, a great contrast to his smooth movements, steps surprisingly graceful on the marbled floor, like he actually knew what he was doing.
the quartet was still playing that sweet melodic tune as you started off slow, easing into the dancefloor and the plan was already working - even a few of the staff had stopped to stare.
dream led you around the room, a hand weighing yours while the other brushed against the exposed skin on your back every now and then. suddenly, you were glad about the choice of dress.
all of a sudden, he pulled back a little, a smile on his lips.
then, you’re tipped back, still handled with care but enough to draw a laugh from you. when you resurfaced, you’re cheek to cheek and you could tell from the sudden drop in tune that the pace was about to get faster. you’ve watched enough trashy rom coms to know the steps.
the melody dropped and you’re suddenly tugged away, wobbly twirling back in his arms, laughter bubbling up from you.
the chatter of the other patrons started to die away, and you felt more relaxed in your movements, more compelled to smile as you swayed more freely. you mirrored his footsteps, anticipating when you were going to twirl away and back in again.
eventually, you slowed back down again, but the smile never left your lips. you swayed in opposite directions, going left when he went right, softly brushing shoulders.
“having fun?” dream asked teasingly. you swept your eyes away from the floor to look at him, mirroring the mirth in his eyes.
your lips pressed into a thin line, trying to stop yourself from smiling. “talk to him.” you pressed the comms in his ear.
there was static, followed by sapnap’s teasing voice. “no, no, keep on dancing. we’re still not done.”
you came to a slow, hands intertwined in the air and one on your waist, keeping you close. with your heels, you were almost the same height as him, almost able to tuck your chin on his shoulder but not quite.
you pulled back, eyes boring in his. “what did he say?”
suddenly, the lights flickered shut, drawing the gasps of the other patrons. it caught you by surprise too, tensing and pressing yourself closer to him. your arms dangled on his shoulders.
you coughed awkwardly, returning the appropriate slither of space between you two and basked in the sunlight suddenly able to stream into the room.
now you can see every speck of dust in the air, every streak making up the emeralds in his eyes.
looks like those diamonds weren’t the only ones getting stolen today.
you took the chance and leaned in, expensive cloth bustling between your bodies as your lips brushed on the specks of sun-kissed freckles on his cheek.
light flooded the room once more.
dream grinned, still not parting. “that’s our cue.”
---
despite the literal crime you had just committed, there’s a smile on your lips as you skipped down the steps and into the awaiting getaway car.
on the way back, you slept with your head resting on dream's shoulder and a sack of diamonds in the front seat.
