You’re a soldier in the middle of a battlefield, some foreign country where you’ve been stationed, where mortar and artillery fire are the lullabies that sing you to sleep. You and your team just got ambushed and you’re so close to death that you can practically taste it…

And then you hear it: the helicopter rotors that signal imminent rescue. They’re your guardian angels, your saving grace, the pararescue. You breathe a sigh of relief because you know that they’ll save your life or die trying.

A man appears above you. Your savior. The PJ patch on his vest is like a beacon of hope.

He introduces himself as Flatline. Your confidence in his medical expertise is quickly dwindling.

He talks constantly as he works, a steady stream of consciousness that seems far too casual for the situation at hand, considering his hands are now coated in your blood and he’s actively holding one of your internal organs in place. Your confidence in his medical expertise is well and truly shattered.

You look back at his vest, just to make sure you read the PJ patch correctly (you did), but your eye is drawn to the second patch, just beside it and all hope of survival flies out of the window. At this point, you are tempted to ask for a new medic, because this one is surely going to end your life rather than save it.

You are Dex “Flatline” Murtagh’s patient, and he is about to get court martialed because one of his teammates snuck a patch onto his tac vest without him realizing it… unbeknownst to you, this has been going on for almost two years, and this one patch (and subsequent write up, court martial, and punishment) is the crowning glory of one of the most covert and intense prank battles the Air Force Pararescue has ever seen.

You survive, but you can never look at Casper the Ghost the same way again

anyway that's now so like no shade if you end up unfollowing. i'll get on for shitposting and whatever i can squeeze some muse out for but ...clark is just kinda dormant rn. I have lost my boy and I must find him.

i think we have finally approached another one of those periods where i need more than a week or two or even a month or so away from him. like i think my last EXTENDED break was in 2019. I only made/reblogged 181 posts that entire year fellas and a good chunk was musing posts, etc and long time mutuals KNOW that is very low for my yapping ass.

All that to say, that makes it a good nearly 5-6 YEARS since I have had more than a two month break here.

I will be trying to send memes and interact at least in some capacity when I have any ounce of muse. I might do some small things here and there. OOC shitposting and memes. Maybe I'll have bouts of muse and get on for actual writing.

But this is me formally announcing a hiatus and that it's not likely I'll be accepting new writing partners because I'm just not going to be doing any deep and plotted and heavy writing.

Those who make it through this to the other side, bless. Otherwise if I lose you between now and whenever I recover writing muse for this oc, it's been fun and I wish you luck continuing to thrive in this hobby.

How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?

Flatline is pretty willing to bend the rules in order to get what he wants. He’ll use enemies and allies alike as test subjects, and when antagonised he usually poisons the instigator (providing an antidote before permanent harm occurs). He doesn’t enjoy senseless carnage, he’s just taking the most direct route for the pursuit of science. But Flatline does hesitate to hurt the few friends he manages to make - he’s more likely to provide his friends with enhancers than toxins, but if he does, you can trust that he’ll make sure whatever he gives them isn’t lethal. Also, I don’t know if this is relevant, but he avoids dosing humans where possible (he’s neutral towards humans/”organics” so he’d rather not have them underfoot).

How easily could your OC be convinced to do something that goes against their moral compass?

Flatline’s moral compass is already pretty loose, so he’d fight tooth-and-nail against something that goes against his remaining personal code. He’d have to have a very strong incentive, or more likely, be in a dire scenario to convince him to go along with whatever’s being proposed. Flatline is, above all else, an extremely stubborn individual. The strongest persuaders to make him do something against his code would be protecting something (or someone) he cares about, or his own survival.

How does your OC want to be seen by other characters?

Dr. Flatline the borderline-disturbed medic, an eccentric and expert toxicologist. Confident, brilliant, deadly, and untouchable.

And the Scottish setting is gorgeous and really evocative.

@dot524: This firefighter AU is one of my favorite RWRB fics ever, and I’m glad I was able to follow it from WIP status to complete this month. Alex as a firefighter is irresistible (Henry thinks so too) and somehow these two feel so true to character even in a completely different context. There are so many fun scenes here - riding a bull, an airport scene, shenanigans at a fire station, sentimental piano playing - but none of them are forced. Truly a wonderful fic that I know I’ll be returning to again and again.

@wilmonsfolklore: seconding this one so so so much!! read it in one sitting and have been thinking about it ever since then. there are so many heartfelt and sweet conversations in it. everyone's so true to their character in such a different situation. can not recommend it enough

Hey what do you think about Flatline and Damian

Hmmm, my feelings for Flatline is a bit complicated. But first I just wanna say I love her design. It's one of the coolest character designs I've ever seen.

I'll be honest, I hated her when I first read Robin (2021). But wait, read till the end.

My reasons were:

1) She was a very powerful character who killed Damian (my FAVOURITE character) 😭

2) When they stood side by side, other characters would start saying things like "ohh love birds" etc. I hate it when writers do that. Another example is Fullmetal Alchemist. Characters would say things to Edward like "Oh your girlfriend's coming to Central" or something, when they clearly are not dating. It's just an automatic NO for me when the narrative do that.

3) The writer nerfed Damian to show off his OC(s).

4) She was introduced to be a love interest and I don't usually like characters who are just there to be love interests.

5) She betrayed Damian and it wasn't addressed properly. Even after they started their relationship.

Then later she betrayed Damian again in B&R(2023), so...

6) They got into a relationship too quickly for my taste. I prefer ships to have a long period of friendship first.

And I was just like " My son is too young nooo😭😭😭"

I still wish Damian got to grow up more without having a love interest. Idk if it's just me but 14 is too young to make lovers in my opinion ┐⁠(⁠´⁠ー⁠｀⁠)⁠┌

When Flatline returned in Batman and Robin (2023), I became more furious at Flatline because she betrayed Damian again and it was mostly brushed aside and how dare she!!!!

But then I stopped myself. I started thinking, what would I do if I were in her shoes? I have an elder sister who I love more than anything, I thought I would do everything to protect her, just like how Flatline did. She tried to protect her sister even if that meant doing some bad things. I didn't blame her for doing that anymore. Because I understood her.

My only criticism toward writer is that they should've made Damian and Nika talk more about their relationship. Talk about more Nika's betrayal and their feelings overall. It was just done in 2-3 panels and never addressed again.

But again, I understand her and don't blame her. I'm just bitter on behalf of Damian.

When the comic progressed and when I saw more and more Flatline, I warmed up to her more. And what made me get rid of my dislike and bias was these pages.

With these pages, we saw how Nika cared about Damian. And that's really what matters to me. Whether she cares and loves Damian or not.

When I saw how Nika hugged Damian and how she talked about him when he wasn't near, how she said Damian needed to be protected... Yeah, she really loves Damian and Damian really loves Nika. That's what I want. I don't want Damian to have a toxic relationship with only betrayel, uncertainty and doubt. I want him to love and be loved. So, I'm happy DC gave him a relationship like that.

And I think Flatline's character developed over time. She warmed up to Damian and loved him more and more. I saw someone on Twitter say "Damian fell first but Nika fell harder" and I think that really describes them very well. Nika needed time.

I hope we get to see Flatline and I hope DC explore her character and her relationship with Damian more. And I just pray that their relationship doesn't get ruined, toxic, bad or anything like that. I hope they get to be happy forever.

laying down the story when signora died here because i was proud of this one 😔 utc:

i made her (let's call her firelight for now 'cause that's what signora called her) and signora's thing very soulmate-y. they could feel/hear each other's heartbeat no matter the distance. When signora was battling the shogun and got incinerated, firelight was in inazuma talking to a vendor when she suddenly felt overwhelmed by signora's heartbeat because it suddenly grew too loud but then it disappears completely leaving her in overwhelming silence which she isn't used to. this prompted her to run towards tenshukaku despite the guards and the storm.

i like to imagine that when she slows and finally stops at the gates of tenshukaku, she can hear the ringing in her ears from the silence that reminds her too much like a flatline on a heart monitor.

anyways 😋 she used to be shipped with jean because i used to be so crazy over her to the point i pulled for banners in hopes of losing 50/50 and getting her (i got childe, kazuha, ayaka, c2 diluc, and qiqi in the process) but dw, jean is shipped with another oc who has a very complex and equally sad story 😭
