Day 5 OS2020 Bengal Cat and Leopard, I did a commission for a former wedding customer of mine of this lovely Bengal cat. The customer had sent me loads of amazing photographs they had taken of their cats which meant that I had plenty of material to work from. I was also luck to have some photographs to work from sent to me by my Godmother and her husband of this lovely Leopard which I have done quite a bit of work from and sell quite well in Germany. These 3 images were just crying out to be drawn. All are 10 x 7 inch Pencil. Day 24 OS2020 Greater Kudu, Tragelaphus strepsiceros, which translate to “he-goat deer, I twist twisting” is from eastern and southern Africa. I loved drawing this peace he is a strong composition with great definition and contrast. He was drawn in black and white with colour pencils to help get the depth within the blacks and graduation of grey tones. Currently on exhibition in Germany, again he didn’t make it back for what would have been Open Studio 2020 due to the lockdowns. He is 20x30inch image and framed, pencil on water colour paper. Day 23 OS2020 The Red Stag is such a noble creature and it is amazing to think that they grow a new set of those huge antlers every year. These 2 pieces are in black and white, but I use colour pencils rather than graphite. Colour pencils give a much more forgiving surface to the image with less shine. The blacks are also much deeper and the grey tones are much more natural to the eye. Both 14x12inch and framed pencil on water colour paper. Day 21 OS2020 A friend sent me a set of amazing photographs he had taken on one of his photographic safaris in Scotland. Magical to draw. Red Stag Majestic is famed and in a small exhibition in Scotland and would have been back for Open Studio if not for the thing that shalt not be named. Day 20 OS2020 I get to see some of these guys out in the countryside on a regular basis. A couple of years ago I was commissioned to draw the set of 6 species of UK deer for a local company and these are the ones that didn’t quite meet the exacting details needed by my customer. Day 19 OS2020 Songbirds. Haven’t the birds this spring been amazing. Maybe it is because we are home and get to notice them more, but they are just so happy and abundant, and you can see so many with just a bit of time in your garden or on a dog walk. Day 16 OS2020 Commissions. It’s not just dogs I can draw for you commission. I have drawn cats, horses and even giraffes. The giraffes were my largest commission to date. Day 11 OS2020 Owls. Such characters and my favourite has to the Tawny. This cheeky chappy lives at the Hawk Conservancy. The rustic frame was also made by me from wood that was once wooded garden items. Day 10 OS2020 Birds of Prey. I visit the Hawk Conservancy in Andover on a regular basis to take reference photographs for my birds of prey. They are such amazing birds and so graceful .
