Yelling about Perfume (Day 16)
17/7 A new house introduced in this little experiment, Osmofolia. Reverie is a rather complex scent, boasting notes of Steamed Rice, Marshmallow, Ambrette, Clove, Black Pepper, and Haze. A super sweet earthiness opening building into a more spiced, atmospheric experience. Quite enjoyable.
Like the end of a woodland picnic, wafts of food linger in the air but it's mostly just the surrounding nature.
I noticed the scent dissipate around the 45 minute mark to just faint wisps of aroma. This recording happened around the end of the day though and that might have skewed my results.
Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed this one and could see myself wearing it pretty routinely. A good all-rounded scent!

Nimbostratus (Osmofolia) (6/10)
black tea, ozone, violets, humidity, rainfall, vetiver, ambergris, soil, petrichor
based on the notes, this sounds like it would smell perfectly like rain. to me, it does not. it smells far too much of violets, not nearly dank enough. it feels like more of a laundry detergent to me. the drydown was actually quite nice, but it takes several hours to get there. i just want to smell that soil and tea, please. no violets, thank you very much.
longevity: 5 hours
will i use up the sample: well, it's osmofolia, so i feel obligated to hoard it.
would i fs: i honestly don't know. sometimes i like it, sometimes it smells horrible.

What a Spellcaster Leaves Behind
Another perfume ramble! This one is about Osmofolia's Duet "What a Spellcaster Leaves Behind". What's interesting about this fragrance, is that it's actually two different bottles (hence the duet part) and you layer them to make a new scent.
(If you're unfamiliar with layering, you can do it a couple different ways, but I usually just put the first scent on my left wrist and the second on my right. Then I bring both wrists up to my nose and experience the fragrance together.)
Scent number one is called Honey Dust with notes of pollen, hay, honey, beeswax, powdered sugar. I thought this might be too sweet for me with the honey and powdered sugar, but I don't get much sweetness from this. It mostly smells like pollen, but I think the honey and hay adds some depth to it. This smells like somewhere I've been, but I can't remember (and honestly, it drives me a bit crazy trying to remember where I know this scent from)
Scent number two is called Antique Books with notes of paper, leather, glue, old books, cedar, vanilla, cetalox. I don't get any of the leather, but I get the rest of the notes. It mostly smells like cold vanilla, but there is the smell of the glue holding together an old book. It's very simple on it's own. Something I might use up, just because the scent is inoffensive, even if it's not a favorite, but then...
But then, when you combine the two scents, I get the scene the perfumer was going for. What really works in the perfumer's favor is that most of their scents are "airy". With a house like Cherry-ka's Trunk, the scent is pretty solidly there. You smell vanilla and the vanilla is on you. Osmofolia, however, can almost smell like it's a coming to you on a breeze. Not that it's faint, but it has a light, airy quality to the scent. The vanilla mellows out some of the harshness of the pollen, and all day, I can pick up the scent of a spellcaster's remnants in the wind. Or maybe I am the wind, lol.
I love the concepts of duets, and I think this one is done well. I will admit, most of the magic for me is in the name. I'm sold on the story the perfumer is telling me, and a scent that might have only been a like, moved to a love for me.
My one complaint is that it lasts forever. I think my skin might just be magic, because on most people it seems to lastfor 8-12 hours. However, on me it last 48 HOURS and by the time it finally washes off, I'm a bit sick of the scent. So I like it (and I bought a full-size), but I don't actually wear it that often because it's such a commitment.
I did recently switch my body wash which has seemed to help, so now it usually goes away about 2 hours after one shower (much better than the two showers and several hours it was lasting before), but I still find myself hesitant to wear it because of that rough start.
Anyway, I've learned my lesson to never full-size something until after I finish my sample. Otherwise I would have been made aware of the longevity issue sooner (I thought I had gotten some on my coat and was smelling it there, but alas, it was still on my skin).

ghoul perfume associations!
i am very into ghost. and i am also very into indie perfumes! so i decided to combine the two and make a list of my scent associations for each of the ghouls, as well as a few indie fragrances that fit them (in my opinion! if y'all have other thoughts i would LOVE to hear them /gen)
i also included all of the perfumes i found that had the same names as the ghouls, even if i didn't think the scent profile worked, and bonus atmospherics that i think are more naturally ghoul-ish and worked well for the various elements!
warning: this is an obscenely long post. i have too many thoughts.
another warning: because this post is so long, some of the text might get cut off on mobile. it should be okay on desktop if that happens (i don't know how to fix it, sorry)
Aeon
Notes: chocolate, linen, lavender. Aeon smells very gentle and pleasant, but not necessarily sweet. He smells like things that he himself finds comfort in.
Perfumes:
Chocolatine -- Fyrinnae
“Also known as Pain au Chocolat, these flaky croissant-like pastries are filled with pieces of dark or semi-sweet chocolate. This is not a very sweet fragrance.”
TELEGRAMA – Imaginary Authors
talc, lavender absolute, black pepper, teak, amyris, vanilla powder, fresh linens
Bonus:
Phantom -- Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab
Aether
Notes: bourbon, amber, vanilla. Aether smells sophisticated, but with a warm, golden edge. He smells like comfort, like unconditional love- but also a little bit like sex.
Perfumes:
Quintessence of Debauchery -- Alkemia Perfumes
“A distillation of raw, bawdy sexiness without regard for gender - Bourbon vanilla, tonka, dark florals, peach brandy, coriander, mock orange, spiced pumpkin, fresh ginger root, rock rose, long leaf tobacco, black opium infused amber, patchouli, oakmoss, and cruelty-free (vegan) castoreum.”
Morosexual -- Treading Water Perfume
“Morosexual - The sexual attraction to stupid people. Treat yourself and read your partner at the same time with a scent that is as classy as it is stupid. The earthy combo of vanilla, fresh tobacco and star anise combine with spicy nutmeg to create a warm soft blanket to dull the mind.”
tobacco, vanilla, patchouli, jasmine, star anise, nutmeg
Alpha
Notes: leather, smoke, gunpowder. Alpha smells.. off-putting, to most people. He has an intense personality, and it's reflected in his scent.
Perfumes:
Industrial Sabotage -- Alkemia Perfumes
“A cataclysmic wreckage of burnt wires; twisted melted steel; shattered machinery, and gunpowder.”
Night Shift -- PULP Fragrance
“Black frankincense, engine grease from a long late shift, smoke, ash, blackened wood, and a hint of leather.”
Cirrus
Notes: dark fruits, musk. Cirrus smells sophisticated in a dark, sensual way. She smells.. hypnotic, almost. She smells like you want her, but she doesn't even know you exist.
Perfumes:
Venus Black -- Possets
“A grand and very very sensual scent. Black in the most sophisticated way. Considered one of the colors, its working name was Mars' Black but it is so wonderfully feminine that there is no way that it could be named after the god of war, it should be named after the goddess of love. The Blackest musk flirts with a float of black pepper, a shot of dark sweet pear, and the smallest amount of sage and non-stinky narcissus for tingle. One not to be missed. Dry, musky, spicy.”
(i have this one. it's VERY attractive (i had to stop wearing it because i was confusing myself lmao) and now that i associate it with cirrus. i might have a problem)
SalomÊ -- Alkemia Perfumes
“An overture of not so innocent magnolia underscored with a sly caress of Queen of the Night, a fulsomeness of nubile black grapes and plums, skin musk bathed in spilled cognac, and ruthless twist of bitter orange, blended with an ancient Arabian love philtre of crushed vanilla and tonka bean, sandalwood, vetiver, cedar, and red oud.”
Bonus:
Cirrus -- Osmofolia
Cumulus
Notes: lilac, magnolia, jasmine, sugar. Cumulus smells sweet and cloying. You smell her once and the scent haunts you all day like the most enchanting ghost.
Perfumes:
Alabama -- Possets
“Floral perfume lovers rejoice! This one is the essence of a hot sticky Southern night at the height of passion with the one you love. What a treat! Alabama weaves pink fizzy mimosa, thick white magnolia, canebrake jasmine, Mexican tuberose, and Martinique gardenia. The effect is eternally woman, unabashedly sexy, and in command. These are all knit together with precious Sacred Frankincense to concoct a bombshell of a fragrance, deep white floral with deep incense leanings. A hypnotic fragrance. So very sweet, so very profound. Feminine, floral, devastating.”
Sweet Mother -- Little And Grim
“‘Sweet mother, I cannot weave --/ slender Aphrodite has overcome me/ with longing for a girl.’ -Sappho. Notes of lush moss, blooming lilac, French lavender, rose, jasmine, mandarin and lemon zest, warm musk, and lily of the valley.”
Bonus:
Cumulus -- Osmofolia
Skiing On Europa -- Fyrinnae
“The atmosphere of a distant moon, not as habitable for mammals as Earth, the thin air reminiscent of high mountain elevations before snowfall. Cold, and ozonic like petrichor.”
Dewdrop
Notes: berries, smoke, wood. Dew smells like resinous woodsmoke, with an unexpected berry undertone. (Just like his personality: brash outside, sweet inside.)
Perfumes:
Ignis -- PULP Fragrance
“Raspberries, fresh ginger, smoky aloeswood, pale blond tobacco leaves & fiery red musk.”
A CITY ON FIRE – Imaginary Authors
“The refined smoke accord makes this an austere and luxurious scent for evenings on the town, whether with a special someone or alone and looking for trouble.”
cade oil, spikenard, cardamom, clearwood, dark berries, labdanum, burnt match
Bonus:
The Center of the Universe -- Alkemia Perfumes
“The center of our universe is raspberries and rum? In a vast dust cloud at the center of the Milky Way there is an abundance of ethyl formate, a simple aliphatic ester found in the smell of rum and raspberries. To these elements, we've added notes from astronauts' descriptions of the smell of their suits when they return from space walks - freshly welded metal, gun powder, seared steak in an iron pan, burnt almond cookies, charcoal, and ozone.”
Ifrit
Notes: black tea, incense. Ifrit smells heavy and dark in a way that makes you want more. Very mysterious, even though his personality doesn't really match.
Perfumes:
Black Tea -- Possets
“The most dark and the most tannic of teas. Somehow that puckery quality becomes addictive. Just right for a seductive night deep in July or August where humidity makes itself into a sexy accessory. Not subtle but very alluring. Pure and beautiful, incense floats over it all and the effect is so much like the vapor lines of a mirage. Tea-like but not sweet.”
(this is one of my favorite fragrances EVER, i wear it like every day)
O, UNKNOWN! – Imaginary Authors
“At the risk of sounding bleak, this night could be your last. Splash on O, Unknown! and plunge forth into prosperity and joy. Repeat as often as you are able.”
black tea, lapsang souchong tincture, orris butter, kyoto moss, musk balsam, sandalwood
Bonus:
The Ifrit -- Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab
Mist
Notes: water, herbs. Mist smells aquatic and green, like spring rain or a pond full of plants. There's an icy, aloof edge to her scent.
Perfumes:
Taste of Rain -- Alkemia Perfumes
“A primordially vernal chypre consecrated by silver rain, green ivy, holy basil, lilacs, moss, and wisteria.”
Diaphanous Dress -- Possets
“If the lovely Primavera would wear a gown, she might be dressed in a garment made of snow crystals and flowers. Even into April, spring can get cold even while the flowers we all love press upward. Spring displays irony in her variability. Deepest and richest Mexican vanilla troupes bravely with the chill aquatic of snow falling in heavy doses and melting almost on contact. A tuft of chlorophyll is in the background and a hint of the flowers it all overtakes for just a while. This is an enchanting fragrance, a hypnotic springtime blend which is more about the atmosphere than the real flowers themselves.”
Bonus:
Ammil -- Alkemia Perfumes
“An olfactory journey that morphs like melting ice... starting cold and aloof with distinct elements of wet snow and ice then gradually unfolding to reveal an indescribably unique velvety skin warmth.”
Mountain
Notes: vetiver, greenery, earth, mushrooms. Mountain smells very green and earthy, almost like he was recently underground, or maybe like he spent all day tending to a fragrant garden (he did).
Perfumes:
Hedale Wood -- Little And Grim
“This fragrance is dark and a bit mysterious, while staying green enough to be worn without smelling too villainous.”
vetiver, cedar trees, bergamot, dense foliage, coriander, musk, sandalwood, frankincense, a touch of lavender, amber
Heirloom Tomato Leaf -- Fyrinnae
“Rows of tomato plants on a humid day, their unmistakable heavy green fragrance filling the air and clinging to your hands as you touch the leaves. This is not a solitary note perfume, but includes significant notes of damp soil and humid air.”
Bonus:
Beneath The Forest -- Fyrinnae
“Beneath the trees, where scant sunlight ever reaches and few green plants grow, mushrooms (and decay) flourish in the ever-damp soil, surrounded by darkness. Step carefully, there could be traps.”
Nimbus*
Notes: peach, rose, wood. Nimbus smells sweet and slightly earthy, with an overwhelming ripe peach heart and a floral edge. Very pretty, very cheerful, but not childish.
Perfumes:
South Star -- PULP Fragrance
“Sweet creamy peach, vanilla beans, liatrix, & a woody-ambrette accord, all topped off with a hint of cinnamon.”
Someone Tell Lady Luck -- Little And Grim
lemongrass, bright fresh ginger, verbena, sweet peaches, bamboo, and clean rain on city streets
Bonus:
Aurora -- Alkemia Perfumes
Armenian Rose -- Fyrinnae
“The fragrance of dark red rose petals and sweeter pink roses with the earthy scent of native lilies.”
*i headcanon nimbus as a earth/air multi
Omega
Notes: wood, amber, tobacco. Omega smells warm, but not quite comforting. He smells like he knows more than you (he does) and like he's a little bit disappointed in you (he might be). He smells like he COULD be comforting, if you managed to earn his approval.
Perfumes:
Bibliotheca -- Alkemia Perfumes
“A vintage elegance of leatherbound books, plush club chairs, vintage vinyl records, polished mahogany tables, fountain pen ink, black tea, dark plum brandy, vetiver, rosewood, artemesia, white carnation, lavender water, citron, tweedy woolens, and oakmoss.”
(i have this one! it's surprisingly woody)
Bronze and Blaze -- Alkemia Perfumes
“Autumnal bronze amber aged with cognac barrel staves, red oak leaves, Perique pipe tobacco, raw wool, ripe pumpkin, opoponax (sweet myrrh), and soft suede gloves warmed by a creamy steamy cup of Bourbon vanilla coffee.”
Rain
Notes: seawater, ozone. Rain smells like the ocean, or more accurately, like a siren that wants to lure you out to sea and kill you. Wet, a little bit green, sweet and salty.
Perfumes:
Mermaids in the Basement -- Alkemia Perfumes
“A siren song of seawater soaked linen, aquatic incense, white ginger, pomelo, limoncello, dry moss, clary sage, cactus flower, prickly pear, loquat, fir resin, cedar needles, mesquite pods, Hinoki wood, Guaiac wood, and Elemi resin.”
EVERY STORM A SERENADE – Imaginary Authors
danish spruce, eucalyptus, vetiver, calone, ambergris, baltic sea mist
Bonus:
Black Squall -- Fyrinnae
“Open waters of the deepest blue, eerily calm before the looming arcus cloud in the distance bears down, revealing the wrath of the storm behind it. There was little left to do now but watch and wait. Cold and clean-smelling seawater, ozonic air, now and then a little olive oil from the lamps.”
Sunshine/Stratus**
Notes: strawberries, citrus, vanilla, spices. Sunny smells like summer. She smells like ripe fruit, sweet cold drinks, and sun, with a little bit of unexpected spice.
Perfumes:
Strawberry Lemonade -- PULP Fragrance
“Fresh strawberries, lemonade, and a bowl of strawberry-vanilla ice cream.”
Lola -- Alkemia Perfumes
“A dramatic splash of Coca-cola trailed by an adoration of blood orange, pink peppercorns, caviar lime, orange blossom, tonka, spicy nutmeg dancing sinuously across a base of warm Brazilian cherrywood.”
Bonus:
Stratus -- Osmofolia
Prairie 66 -- Alkemia Perfumes
“The smell of an old cement-paved road in the desert just before dawn when the cement is cold and almost, but not quite damp. Flowering desert sage, aldehydes, grapefruit, Linden blossoms, bergamot, saffron, gray amber, yucca, yuzu, and cool concrete. ”
**i headcanon sunny as a fire/air multi
Swiss***
Notes: smoke, musk, patchouli. Swiss smells dark but welcoming, unpredictable but attractive. He smells the way velvet feels: sweet, smoky, decadent.
Perfumes:
Smoke & Mirrors -- Alkemia Perfumes
“An elusive, smokey blend of burning wood, Madagascar Vanilla, and Tonka. We find this one to be elementally simple, but unusually mercurial and highly responsive to different skin chemistries… the vanilla and the smoke dance with each other almost continuously… sometimes the foreground is smoky, then sweet, then returns with sweetly smoky, then smoky.”
Allen Ginsberg - Howl -- Possets
“Possets' interpretation of Howl is unabashedly sexy, driven mad by welling passions. Black, red and amber musks wrestle furiously with sandalwood and opium tar resin. There is nothing light or gentle about this scent. A burning incense backs it up, black patchouli stands in the forefront. Dark, musky, resinous. Tremendously savage, dark and sweet like molasses rather than sugar. ...and yet, there is something innocent about it all.”
(i have howl and it's SO good and so perfect for swiss)
***i headcanon swiss as a fire/water multi
Zephyr
Notes: dust, ozone. Zephyr smells like the air where something once was, or maybe where something is and has been too long. Dusty, faintly sweet, slightly melancholic.
Perfumes:
Dustsceawung -- Alkemia Perfumes
“The scent of forbidden explorations and an olfactory meditation on dust... attic air, the inside of old trunks, abandoned haylofts, library stacks, and abandoned buildings. Dustsceawung is the contemplation of dust, worldly desires, and the ephemerality of all things... raspings that were once a tree, ruins that were once cities, bones that were once lovers. Dust is always the ultimate destination on our journey.”
 Hauntology -- PULP Fragrance
“Ozone, olibanum, the air in a closed up kitchen cupboard that might once have held raisins and dried apricots, ambergris, burled briarwood, & the lost futures of a home abandoned.”
Bonus:
Zephyr -- Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab
if you made it to the end of this i admire your dedication. and i would love to hear what you think!

wearing my sample of possets venus in black tonight. i dont typically find myself too partial to pear scents. la vie est belle and most of the ariana grande ones smell very candied to me in a way im not partial to, and although one of baby's first perfumes was jo malone's pear and freesia cologne, i dont revisit or crave pear scents often. i think my only other notable pear scent in my collection is osmofolia's "earthling", which....is more spinach than pear, honestly. but this one is taking me by surprise.
the pear is very realistic, not candied or marinated in an artificial rum scent. it smells like biting into a nice, slightly overripe pear. there's something suedey (is it the black musk?) and dry, definitely a pepper feel that flirts with a background of woodiness. and the narcissus is definitely popping out and weaving its way through the pear, this creamy petal feeling that verges on buttery. but mostly pear on my skin. this reminds me of something my mother would enjoy. it's rather sensual imo, very "skintimate", sort of "draw into a hug" kind of smell in a way that could be sort of flirty, but not in a youthful playful way. definitely in the "my mom" way (affectionate). this is what your second grade teacher was wearing when you ran into her out at a restaurant with your family once and it was just she and her husband and you were entranced by how strange it was that she was wearing her hair differently and had earrings on. it's a mature and soft kind of sexy, not really playful, very assured and comfortable, but definitely sexy. im starting to sense a trend with possets. and i'm honestly on board.
also yeah theyre right this is incredibly feminine and beautiful, like-- of all the possets ive tried this is definitively the most feminine one yet

for the perfume - english major x2, history minor, published author, currently working in archaeology. VS bare vanilla secondary scent always and forever. autumn vibes, could live in the light academia aesthetic more than i actually live it lol, sad to finish my master's thesis + grad school and considering a phd, want to be the warm comforting presence in any situation to any person even if it's 100+ degrees
i've been repping MM's whispers in the library for years now (with many compliments) but now that it's been discontinued (😭), i want to reserve it (and the extra bottles i bought) into only a september-december/january scent instead of year round. but i just CANNOT find anything i like to translate to spring or summer!
tysm you have no idea how many samples sets i've bought and struggled through
As a whispers in the library wearer who loves vanilla fragrances, these aren’t dupes or even close to it in terms of scent profile, but they feel appropriate based on their vibes.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 18)
29/7 Osmofolia's And Life & the Fields, a Honeycomb, Grains, Tonka, Neroli, Hay, and Apricot scent that has a sweet, fruity musk and dries much more green. Super well-rounded and easily identifiable notes.
Like a fall farmer's market; dry grains, late harvest honey, and bright fruits scattered about.
I was smelling this one for about an hour and that was just when the throw died. I could still pick out most of the base notes at that point.
Final Thoughts: I LOVED this one. Super wearable and could easily cross seasons though it really read fall/early winter to me. This one solidified the love I hold for Osmofolia.

Pyrocumulus (Osmofolia) (8/10)
smoke, ozone, blood orange, ash, guaiacwood, char, orris, amber, soil
when i first recieved this, it smelled weirdly grainy. like a smell with a texture. but after two weeks of banishment in a shoebox, it became a wonderfully smoky, vaguely citrusy fragrance. the citrus fades away into a smoky scent, which again fades into the smell of wood. it's glorious, really.
longevity: 3 hours
will i use up the sample: i would, but since osmofolia closed, i'm going to hoard the sample and keep it hidden away.
would i fs: yes, if osmofolia was still open, but it's closed, so. nothing i can really do about it.

Perfume vibe check! Except I'm also gonna share some that remind me of your blog: Your blog name and pfp remind me a lot of Alkemia and Possets, something classic with fruit or florals like Elegant Coquette or any of the florals in Posset's Silver series. I haven't tried any of those so if I had to pick from my collection, I'd say Caveau de Innocents from Alkemia or even Hayloft from Pineward!
omg, i actually have a lot of alkemia, caveau des innocents sounds like one of those saucy perfumes i would buy in the hopes of being, well, a bit saucy, but i actually really find sweet notes overwhelming so i would probably stash it and forget to come back to it because rum candied pears would make my head spin
from my collection? i’d probably pair you with osmofolia’s “pyrocumulus”. it has this smokey resiny quality that’s really unique compared to my other similar perfumes, it really is very atmospheric and intriguing, and i think that would be a good match for you.

Coffee Perfumes
Ever since I got into perfume, I have dreamed about smelling like black coffee. Not to spoil the review, but that dream has not come true. Nonetheless, here's all the fragrances I've tried that I've been told smell like black coffee (in alphabetical order by brand)
Alkemia's Caffaeum (five year aged black amber, Arabian coffee, labdanum, benzoin) This smells very perfume-y to me. If I smelt this on someone else, I would think it was a mainstream spray instead of an indie oil. It doesn't trigger migraines for me, but it's still not pleasant. Vaguely cough-syrup like. Other reviewers have said this scent is mostly amber, and amber rarely agrees with me, so that's probably why I don't like it. I understand in a vague way where this might smell like coffee. There's a richness to it that imitates coffee, but it doesn't work for me.
Bath Sabbath's Cupajoe (Freshly brewed coffee with hints of vanilla and cream) This one is nutty. If you drink primarily nutty coffee, this will probably smell like coffee to you. The vanilla adds some sweetness, but not enough to completely distract from the "coffee" scent. Alas, this doesn't work as a coffee scent to me, but I get where some people interpret coffee.
Haus of Gloi's Coffee Haus (coffee, chocolate, caramel, almond) People rave about this being the ideal black coffee scent. "You can't even smell the chocolate and other notes" they say. I think the people who say this have never smelt coffee before. This is straight up chocolate. Like, it's semi-sweet chocolate so I think people are tricked into thinking it's coffee by the fact that it's darker than milk chocolate. But as a lover of coffee and dark chocolate, I'm not buying it.
(Special note!!! After everyone in my household had thoroughly denounced this perfume as pure chocolate, we received a free sample of Frederick's brand cold coffee. We were convinced it was a mocha that they forgot to put the coffee into, but the ingredients list only coffee beans and water so....if you drink Frederick's brand coffee, I guess Coffee Haus does smell like coffee?!?! Still, I cannot in good faith recommend this as a coffee scent.)
Osmofolia's Cold Brew (ice, coffee beans, espresso) My reaction to this can be summed up as: What the fuck. People swear this smells like straight coffee and I would like to know what drugs they are on. This is floral and fruity, with maybe a hint of musk. It's a pretty nice actually, just not what I wanted at all. I thought maybe I was just having a weird reaction to this perfume because it is SO FAR OFF from coffee. Then my housemate tried it and also was like, "Oh, this is a nice fruity-floral scent. What's in it :) ... COfFEE?!?!?!?!?" So I thought perhaps they scent me the wrong sample. However, after trying another one of their perfumes with coffee as a side note, I'm pretty sure it's just this house's coffee.
Poesie's Whisper Your Bitter Things (coffee beans, clove, cinnamon, jasmine, neroli, vanilla bean) Okay, I can't give a good review of this perfume, because I seem to be anosmic to most of Poesie's notes. This smells like nothing for the first 20 minutes, then suddenly hits you with a blast of citrusy florals. My housemate can smell it from the beginning, but still smells no coffee. They do get the spices and florals, though. So, depending on whether you can smell this or not, it may or may not smell like black coffee. Who knows.
Possets Hophead (coffee and five ambers) This is fruity amber. No coffee, but like Caffaeum, I get where people can mistake the richness of amber into a coffee scent. It's basically the same scent as Caffaeum without the off-putting perfumey-ness.
Red River Apothecary's Raktajino (roasted espresso and sweet marshmallow fluff) You have no idea how sad I am this didn't work for me. Not only was it the last on my list to try, but it being named after a Star Trek drink made my inner nerd very happy. Alas, that marshmallow is soooo sweet. I do get the coffee underneath. It's nutty coffee, similar to Cupajoe, but deeper. I would possibly accept this as a coffee scent if it weren't for that dreadful marshmallow :(
Samar's Buzzworthy (Espresso, dark cocoa, vanilla cream, hazelnut) I get a powdery-chocolate from this. It reminds me of this coffee-scented chapstick one of my friends had in high school. Needless to say, that chapstick did not smell like coffee. My housemate gets an overwhelming amount of powdery vanilla. It's very reminiscent of marshmallows to them.
In conclusion: I will not be smelling like coffee any time soon :(

Stratus (Osmofolia) (8/10)
plant stems, mist, stone, osmanthus, petrichor, galbanum, wet soil, deer musk, fog
immediately when applied to the skin, it smells like broken plant stems and cold air. like crushing a dandelion stem between your fingers. the top notes are quite green, but they melt away to reveal florals and a bit of petrichor. this is not wandering a soggy forest, but rather lying amongst the tall green grass and flowers, hands pressing against the soil, rain falling on your face. this made me think of being 11 and playing in my grandparents' backyard in the rain. digging around in the soil, smelling wildflowers, crushing handfuls of grass in my hands. it eventually turns into a soft, warm smell (the deer musk accord?). i love every stage of this. sometimes it smells too sharp to me, or too floral, but mostly it smells quite good.
longevity: 5 hours
will i use up the sample: hoarding this sample, just like all the other osmofolia samples.
would i fs: perhaps, as a springtime scent.

oh my god oh my GOD as an indie perfume lover too i MUST know your thoughts
it's so cool that other people are interested in this! my two main hobbies are ghost and perfumes so it's very fun to combine them lol
i'm going to try and make a post (tomorrow? maybe?) but the doc is currently 10 pages (15 ghouls!!) so. i need to condense it lmao but i'm still gonna talk about some of it here too!
ok so i initially tried to do element associations with notes, and i came up with:
earth: wood, vetiver, earth (duh)
air: fruit, floral
fire: smoke, incense, spices
water: aquatic, ozone, vanilla
quintessence: amber, leather, chocolate
obv my associations are pretty specific to me, so idk if other people will agree, but i ended up deviating pretty heavily from this in a lot of places so. it barely matters lmao
also fair warning i love atmospherics/weird perfumes so there are a lot of those!
all of this started because i was looking at osmofolia and saw that they had cirrus and cumulus perfumes lmao
also.... alkemia has one called "quintessence of debauchery" like!! come on!!! and it's perfect for aether!
ok this answer has gotten away from me, but i would love to hear other people's thoughts on this!
