Music is very important for contact with the Orixás. I speak more about the rhythm and power of the atabaque (musical instrument) than about the music itself. We have a playlist with some "sung points" (which in short, are the songs to the deities). The sound is very different for those who are not Brazilian or even of the religion.
Try a little bit: macumba hits

What can I do that will work for me to be a medium or psychic? Because nothing I do don’t seems to work
Hi @standamagicman ! Thanks for your patience, it took me some time this week to really find the space and energy to devote to a reading. Worked out well as I was able to spend a lot of time in prayer to my Egun and meditation before this session - and right around the new moon as well, which turns out to have a strong tie to the message of your reading in renewal and the start of some new possible beginnings for you on your path :)
I hope these messages bring you some insight for your work with spirits! Best wishes to you.
1) What could be blocking me from hearing, sensing, and seeing spirits?
Ten of Chalices: Oshunmare & Joseph Cinqué
When you reach out to the spirits, they take notice, they hear you, some of them try to communicate back. And you are hearing and sensing it, but it is lost in the sea of noise and distraction in your mind. It’s like paint on a canvas that is so busy and full of other colors that you can’t find the brush strokes you are looking for. It’s so loud and noisy that you can’t hear what you’re listening for. You need to quiet your mind and your being enough to get in tune with the messages being sent your way.
Oshunmare is the Orisha (spirit of the Yoruba culture in West Africa) who is depicted here as a rainbow snake flying across the sky. On the Ten of Chalices, Oshunmare represents rebirth and renewal. With this, I can feel that you need to turn things some things upside down and be willing to start over to get the peace and quiet necessary to hear the spirits.
Joseph Cinqué gives a lesson on how to do this - he was a slave on La Amistad who revolted, won, and had a chance to fight for the right to be free since by that time the Atlantic slave trade was illegal in the US. Cinqué succeeded, and likewise you must free yourself from old patterns and habits that are holding you back. Speak up for what you need, fight for the quiet and peaceful space that you need. Make time to devote to resting your mind and clearing your head.
2) How can I better hear, sense, and see spirits?
Three of Pentacles: Agé & Benjamin Abnneker
This card speaks on mastery of an art, great ability, skill, craft, and specialization. Agé is a great hunter spirit of indigenous cultures in Benin and Togo. You see him on the card aiming with great precision and focus using his bow and arrow to strike a particular target. Benjamin Abnneker is a skillful masterful of the diaspora, an African American slave who gained his freedom and used his knowledge of astronomy to author a successful series of almanacs.
The message for you is that it takes time, practice, patience, and hard work to gain the knowledge, skill, and mastery that it will take to become a medium or a psychic. The Ten of Chalices told you the first step to solving your issue - learning to quiet your mind so that you can hear spirits and creating renewal in your life to remove the obstacles to peace in your mind. But once that has been achieved, the roads will only be open and clear for you. Then you will need practice to hone your skills for traversing and traveling down those roads.

What is Santeria?
The religion combines influences of the Caribbean traditions and Catholicism, since our ancestors in African were stolen from their home lands as slaves, and their masters wanted them to worship their catholic deities, to keep their believes our forefathers needed to trick their masters into believe that they were worshiping the catholic saints. This makes Santeria a little complex because it blends the Orishas with the Catholic saints, although they are not the same, they had some similarities. This is why some statues are used in our Yoruba altars, like the Saint Barbara or Saint Lazarus.
For a long time the religion was somewhat secret keeping itself away from persecution, it survived as an oral tradition passed down from generation to generation, through initiation ceremonies celebrated on a very tight community.
Time passed and the religion started to spread through the United States, Europe and South America and the world gaining a great deal of followers, believers and popularity.
Since our traditions aren’t written, they could get lost on these modern days. That’s the reason why here at My Yoruba we provide valuable information to our brothers and sister around the world. With the knowledge of our brother, father and founder, Manny Muñoz, we wish to unite the Yoruba religion as one big family and preserve our traditions and wisdom.

Faeblood of the Day: Cusirimay Terrazes b. 1804
CUSIRIMAY TERRAZES b. 1804: IN-LAWS.
Cusirimay was sent to Venezuela as an observer in 1819. She met Nicodemo Montoya almost immediately, although they didn't start courting for several years. They married in 1825 in Venezuela, but eventually settled in Peru, near Cusirimay's family.
She is insulted, she does not bat an eye. A battle is won, she smiles and nods. Whatever happens, she is calm, collected, and *cool*. The girl is like a lizard! <--attributed to Beatriz Montoya>
Nicodemo's family did not entirely approve of Cusirimay, not least because the relationship led to Nicodemo moving to Peru. Beatriz and Fausto both thought Cusirimay very cold; Selena was just upset that she hadn't met Nicodemo's intended before the wedding. Silvio approved of an "alliance" with the Peruvian sorcerous community. Roxana was not terribly interested in who her nephew married, but approved of Cusirimay's education. Esperanza thought her name was unnecessarily difficult to spell. Malintzin approved of Cusirimay, but had reservations about her family, especially her grandfather.
Now that *absolutely everyone* has offered an opinion, can I just get married? Or are we waiting for the Papillons and Olanrewaju and *Muadhnait* to post us their feelings? Expecting a message from Amentet, maybe? <--Nicodemo Montoya>

intro post –
hello all! you can call me obi, and this is my snek boi junho. i have a small plots page up and a full about page for anyone who’s interested! this post has been queued on time (hopefully!) and i’ll get to messaging everyone when i wake. in the meantime, feel free to message me on discord ( obiben#0829 ) or on twitter ( @obibenkenbobi ). below the cut is a quick run-down of his character, and a bit of explanation for the plots i have up + some quick plot bunnies up for grabs. if you’d like to take up one of them, feel free to hmu!
about the snek boi: ( tw for mentions of domestic abuse, drugs )
25 y.o familiar who turns into a snake ( a mexican black kingsnake, specifically ) and is bound to [ 6 am ], @13xalice. he resisted their whole bond whatever for like a full 9 months though so he’s only just starting to get really close with her ( and now currently lives with her ).
prior to meeting her, he was in the coven since it was put up 3 years ago and practically lived with them
before that, he was a homeless guy who ran away from an abusive father, and lived on the streets from when he was 19 up until he was 22. he lived when his father for about 5 years, and before that, lived with his mother, who tried to kill him on his 14th birthday because she saw him turning into a snake during the cold months
when he was homeless he helped run drugs for really bad people (right about when he was 21-22) for a cup of coffee or some clean clothes or a place to sleep in during winter, but he’s outta that business now
he has a bad thing for winter, which means that he’s suuuuper weak and sickly during nov-jan. he’s also super grumpy (grumpier than normal) and likes to sleep a lot during these months
he thrives the most during spring and summer, and when it gets really hot sometimes he just spontaneously turns into a snake because he loves it so much, but it becomes a really huge pain in the ass because then he turns back and he’s nekkid
he’s generally grumpy and mean and has a nasty temper though, and tends to either avoid people or make really biting remarks at them if they invade his space or bother him...but he used to be super charming and friendly and i’m sure there’s a bit of that left
he generally keeps to himself or hangs out with the people who he trusts/enjoys hanging out with
you can find him around the garden or whatever, curled up among the flowers and the plants and helping them grow just by being there (though sometimes this doesn’t always work and he just kinda likes being amongst plants...but he won’t admit that)
on that note, he’s a sucker for food! when he’s being mean or grumpy the most sure-fire way to get him to stop being ...less mean and grumpy is to offer him food. the boi has a massive appetite, both as a snake and as a d00d
plot run-down:
nirah: basically bffs, you guys are just super loyal to each other. and he’s less mean to you, so that’s a plus
shesha: you knew each other wayyyy back and knew that u could both turn into animals. but then you left all of a sudden and now he has trust issues
oshunmare: he helped you out of a potentially really dangerous situation back when he was still homeless. you guys basically never met again until u joined the coven (whenever that was)
asclepius: being junho, he’s always up to test the limits of his powers, and when u both tried it at the same time obviously it didn’t end well...but now maybe you’re in a condition to try again?
nehushtan: back in the day, you thought that he would be the perfect familiar for you, so you did your best to gain his trust, etc... but it just didn’t work
jörmungandr: you two don’t get along. at all. and you saw how he treated his witch and made her cry a lot and you think that’s horrible and also you think that you’d be a better familiar for his witch than he is
more plot bunnies!
knew each other when you were kids – back when junho was still vibrant and charming and his entire year had a crush on him
knew each other when you were teens – back when junho was still living with his dad, maybe you both got tattoos together
serendipitous club meeting...back when junho was running drugs
he’s super intimidating and has plenty of tattoos but one time you find him helping a cat down from a tree .... and throwing it down
you accidentally stepped on him one time and now he calls you ‘Bigfoot’
you keep hitting on his witch, and he’s super possessive and jealous and makes ur life 1000x harder by being extra annoying
