Writemas Day Nine!
nine tiiiiiiime!
the prompts for today!
the ones I chose were:
“…Did you just hug me?”
“Say that again. Never stop saying it.”
the vicious bite of regret
church setting
The whispers of the damned, those who existed solely on the wind, screeched through the shattered windows.
yknow I change these prompts a lot I’m realizing :/ like they’re not exact… anyways.
———
The whispers of the damned, the dead, the forbidden, were always present. They screeched through broken windows, startling Kaiden from her sleep. A cool breeze was permanently blowing, making her shiver. She tried to get up, but found she could not with the rope binding her hands to another’s.
“Tried that already, Kaids.” the person whose hands they were said. He coughed.
She turned her head—‘gods, that hurt’—to him, the little light that emanated from his wings just barely illuminating his features. Despite that, she could see the furrow of his brow and the tension in his jaw. The bite of regret suddenly reminded her: They had been captured. On the most important mission of their lives, no less.
“Felix. Where…?” she started, still woozy.
“Some church, I think. Just past Liaba Ridge.”
“Okay… well, when did you wake up?”
“An hour ago? Not sure—also your head’s bleeding, those guys nailed it really bad.”
Right on cue, she felt a trickle of blood roll down the side of her face, mingling with the other blood pooling underneath them. “Ouch.”
“Ouch is right,” he replied, shifting his weight slightly, which elicited winces from the both of them. “We aren’t getting out of here anytime soon.”
“How are you feeling?” she asked, urgently, worry tinging her tone.
“I think I broke my pinkie toe. Pair that with my throat being—” a short coughing fit, then, “—sore, to say the least, the ol’ wing tears, and the possible cracked ribs? I’ve felt better. How are you?”
“…Not good.”
Felix chuckled, but it was without mirth. “Blunt as always, Kaids.”
Silence settled between them as they thought about where to go from here. They were knocked out, beaten—if the mysterious injuries they’d sustained were anything to go by—tied up, and possibly left for dead in an abandoned building. It wasn’t looking good.
Still, they’d faced worse odds before. All the pair needed was a plan.
“We’re trapped, yes, but we’re not completely incapacitated,” she observed, cocking her head to Felix’s legs. “Our legs are… relatively okay. All we need to do is—”
“—figure out where we are, then—”
“—find a way back to the rendezvous point. We lay low until the others come.” she finished with a smile.
“Alrighty Kaidy, sounds good. But,” Kaiden felt a prick of magic, and heard Felix sigh, “Magic’s blocked. I can’t sever the ropes. Maybe if I…” he started wiggling, seemingly trying to get a better angle to work from. His wings, however, were crushing themselves even more.
“Hey!” she hissed. “Careful, your wings!”
“Well I can’t untie it if I stay still, now can I?” he huffed, but his voice was tinged with pain.
“Let me do it.” Kaiden tried her hands at the binds, but to no avail. They were too numb to be of any use. Damned cold.
Kaiden groaned. “This is gonna take ages.”
“Well at least the ropes aren’t enchanted…?” Felix offered, but his tone soured fast. “Oh, fuck me.”
She was going to ask what made him upset, but then she felt it: the ropes tightening of their own accord. Her eyes darted to where she imagined the door was, and dread filled her as she realized it, too, was enchanted, glowing slightly at the edges.
They were trapped. Clearly, their captors knew what they were doing.
‘Well, time for a new plan, I suppose.’ she thought. Her mind whirled, like the winds outside, as the spirits—‘useless things’—looked on. Despite her best efforts, she came up dry.
Kaiden blinked back tears as her planning turned to panicking. They’d die here, of starvation, or the cold—or their injuries, even—at this rate. A pit opened in her stomach, threatening to swallow every last bit of composure she had.
Until she felt an unsteady hand on the small of her back. And a pair of familiar wings, stretched out on both sides, their faint glow slightly tainted from the tears in the membrane.
The surprise shortly stunned her. “…Did you just hug me? Or try to?”
“Maybe,” he said, so gently Kaiden almost missed it. “And before you say ‘I don’t need it, I’ll be fine,’ just know I can feel your anxiety from here.” She could hear the smile in his voice as he added, “One of the many perks of being Bound to you. We’ll be okay.”
She tried to object, but deep down she knew that this would be best: letting herself calm down and then think would assist her in the long run. Besides, when she really focused on their soul bind, she found that Felix was just as scared as her. So she leaned her head on his, and took a breath. “Say that again.”
“We’ll be okay?”
“Mm.”
“We’ll be okay,” he shifted his weight again, carefully this time. “We’ll be okay.”
Kaiden closed her eyes and tried to relax.
“… how many more times do I have to say this, by the way?”
“Don’t stop saying it. At least till you can see that I’ve calmed down. And do watch your wings, please.”
Felix chuckled. “As you wish. We’ll be okay.”
———
they were not, in fact, okay :>

Kaiden is a people-watcher 100%. She doesn’t like speaking to people, sometimes even her friends. (It’s not that she doesn’t like them she just doesn’t like speaking) (and yknow what she doesn’t like people in general actually.)
if not people watching then she’s hiding or eating.
Your wip’s protagonist is at a party.

Writemas Day Nineteen!
BIG ONE YAY
ft ice skating, the Duo Ever (Kai n Fel as like 17 year olds) and glamour wearing off! yay!
the prompts for today!
the ones I used:
setting: festival (a little one 😌)
feeling: the bite of icy air
“He lost himself in the moment, he lost all thoughts of logic, of warning, of danger, and let himself be, living only for the moment.” (But like. Heavily edited. Which is on par for how I’ve been doing these 😭)
———
“Ah, c’mon, Kaids,” Felix called behind him. “We’re gonna be late!”
“I’m coming, wait!” Kaiden replied, shrugging a light shawl over her shoulders. The days in the capital had gotten colder, and while they were never freezing like in Daeryn, Kaiden still felt chilly. Snow fluttered down onto the streets, light and gentle, and never overbearing.
The snow wouldn’t stop the little festival from happening, however. Crossing over many, many bridges, and climbing many, many ladders, the two teens eventually made their way to one of the city plazas. Kaiden had never been to this specific one; it was far from the trainee housing, and she really had no need to stray far from it. Felix had convinced her to come along, saying something about a surprise he had to show her. The strange boy was always full of surprises, Kaiden knew. Most of which were naught but harmless fun.
The plazas were normally beautiful, being the centerpieces of the Vespar, but this one was simply magnificent—the decor was sparse, yet tasteful, the snow adding a gentle ambiance to the area. Kaiden filled with warmth at the familiar sight. She’d never been here before, but it reminded her of Daeryn, with its simplistic style and homely charm.
What caught Kaiden’s attention was the giant circular ice… thing nestled in the center. A simple railing lined its edges, where some people were fastening their shoes, and on the actual circle people glided along the ice, graceful as birds.
“So?” Felix asked, bouncing from foot to foot. His dark brown eyes sparkled with excitement, much like a mirror to Kaiden’s own.
“What are they doing…?”
“It’s called ice skating! This,” he replied, sweeping a hand over the skaters, “is the rink!”
“Oh…”
“Yeah, they came up with them a few years back. People just liked them enough, I guess.” he explained. “But the winter’s not cold enough in the rest of Vespar to keep the ice solid. That’s why Liaba has the only rink!”
Kaiden shivered a bit, courtesy of the frigid winds that blew behind her. It was cold, she agreed. Though perhaps it was because of the sheer height of the mountain, much higher than the rest of the city. She glanced to her right, the small sign reading ‘Liaba Ridge’. Now she had a name to put to the place.
“Well… let’s get going?” she asked. She had to admit, she felt like a giddy schoolgirl at the prospect of ice skating.
Felix only smiled and pulled her along.
~~~
“…let me go over this again. You need to—ACK KAI NO!”
Kaiden fell flat on her backside. For the sixth time. She felt sore. And slightly paranoid, what with the literal blades strapped to her shoes.
Felix sighed. “You gotta let yourself move forward, Kaids.” He helped her up, got her hand on the railing, and pushed off to give her a demonstration.
He was graceful as ever, sailing across the ice in a simple straight line. After a few moments, he turned around again and emphasized his movements, shouting so that Kaiden could hear him. “See, it’s push, then glide, then push, then glide. Easy!”
Kaiden was skeptical, but she decided to let him return to her before she started her own push-glides. She started, steady and slow, with Felix standing near her for moral support.
She repeated Felix’s advice like a mantra. ‘Push, glide, push, glide…’ All was well, for a few moments. Then Kaiden slipped and fell for the seventh time.
She stayed seated on the ice, a small frown plastered on her face. “Felix, I don’t think I’m going to get this down anytime soon.”
“Aw, no, you’ll get it soon enough! These things take time, yknow?” He crouched down next to her, patting her shoulder. “You should have seen me a few years back, I was awful…” he made a face, greatly exaggerated, to try and cheer her up.
Kaiden’s face softened, but she still wasn’t convinced. “I think I’ll take a break. Over there.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah. Have your fun, Fel.” She got up, accidentally pressing Felix’s back in pursuit of a support. He winced.
“Oh, sorry.”
“It’s alright.” He led—or rather pushed and pulled—her to the railing. She leaned back on it, and off Felix went.
The ice near them was completely empty, the other skaters opting to stay on the other side of the rink, away from the stumbling newbie. So, instead of people-watching, Kaiden opted to Felix-watch.
As she observed, Felix’s movements became more loose, his expression softer, somehow. He never once seemed upset with her, during all their outings, but now he seemed… at peace. More serene. She liked it. But, at the same time, she wondered why he felt calmer now.
As he skated, he seemed to lose himself in the moment. Like nothing mattered. Not danger—as if there was any—not logic, nor the world around him. Just him, the ice, and the icy air biting at the residents of the rink.
Then, something changed. Felix himself changed. His jacket, originally covering his back, morphed away to reveal a diamond-shaped cutout, and from it emerged silvery insect wings. They glittered, mirroring the ice underneath him, and it took her breath away.
The moment shattered when his eyes—now a pale grey—met her star-struck ones, and he looked positively horrified.
———
guys I promise it’s a chill one trust me
Training
Trying my hand at whump bless ft Kaiden and Sir Santhuff
and now the TWs: exhaustion whump, sleep deprivation, paranoia, poison (delivered via arrow), chasing? whump idk man she’s getting chased, ankle injury, suicidal ideation/thoughts, whumper trying to make whumpee “perfect”, training whump, fantasy whump, mentions of setting a bone back into place, beating, hair pulling, using whumpee as a punching bag, uh yea 👍
———
The knight collapsed onto the damp earth, tremors causing her whole form to quiver. Her runeswords—a pair of them, specially designed for her—slipped from her grasp. She tasted metal; from what, she did not know. Her quick, frantic breaths mixed with the crisp night air. A creek babbled nearby, mingling with her buzzing thoughts. It was nearly pitch black, and the dark spots now cluttering the edge of her vision didn’t help in any way.
‘That can’t be good,’ she thought, her mind feeling sluggish and slow.
That was even worse. She needed to stay alert, no matter the exhaustion deadening her senses, no matter the chill that seeped into her bones from the wet night, no matter how much she wanted to lay down and sleep right there in the mud.
He was going to find her, sprawled out on the floor, panting, pathetic, and she wouldn’t—couldn’t—let him see her like this. Not after he had gotten so close to catching her just now: she remembered the sting in her leg from the arrow he’d shot at her.
‘Get up,’ she told herself. ‘Get up and prove yourself. Prove him wrong. Make him proud.’
Staggering to her feet, she gripped a nearby fallen tree to heave herself up. She wavered in place, dizzy, then steadily moved forward, inch by inch, step by step, making her way to the creek. Water would assist the wound, her sluggishness, and provide her a good way of making it back to the starting point—the goal of this gruesome training session. She needed to make it back before Santhuff ensnared her in one of his many, many traps. He’d almost gotten her twice on the first day, and the number kept increasing as fatigue and hunger set in. She couldn’t hunt for food; he was hunting her. She couldn’t rest for longer than a few hours before his arrows whizzed past her head and into the bark behind her. She even tried to sleep nestled in a tree, but the lack of suitable escape routes made her already frayed nerves go haywire.
He might actually kill her at this point.
‘Though,’ she realized with chagrin, ‘that would just prove him right, wouldn’t it?’
She couldn’t have that. Santhuff had already been reluctant on letting her join the Azari in the first place. She would never had guessed it, given his previous enthusiasm on the night of the Ball, unless she hadn’t been eavesdropping on him while recording an entry for his diary.
So, pride and ego giving her strength, she started cleaning the possible poison out of her leg wound, and replenished her thirst with the river water. She looked up into the sky above, the twinkling stars winking at her, as if to say, ‘You can do it, just a little further, see, past the little berry bush, then you’re free.’
The knight got up again, feeling a little better at least, and started moving towards the goal point, moving quietly to avoid snapping twigs and the like.
Maybe she’d actually make it. Maybe she could prove Santhuff wrong. Maybe the self-deprecating part of her would see that she could do it, she could be just as good as the other Azari, then it would quiet itself forever. All she needed to do was make it to the goal.
She told herself that again and again, until the small yellow flag, magicked to glow gently for visibility, came into view, just a few dozen paces ahead. There wasn’t a need for the glow now—the sun had started rising, bathing the forest in gentle pinks and purples.
Lowering her guard—a bad idea, in theory, but she didn’t care—the knight stumbled towards the flag. The thought of a warm bed, a nice meal, and most of all, the boost of confidence, almost made her sob with relief.
She’d won! Against the First Justice! No one had ever bested him before—much less a new recruit—and here she was, outlasting him at his own game. Not outwitting—she was too frazzled for that—but she decided outlasting should be good enough tonight.
Just as the thought passed, an arrow flew by, nicking her face. A trickle of gold blood followed, and then the knight-turned-target was sprinting in another direction, away from the flag, her saving grace.
She’d been noticed. Damn it. She should have waited till she was certain Santhuff had moved on, till the wound on her leg had healed completely. Now she ran, branches whipping at her face, snagging her muddy clothes, and puddles splashing as her boots landed on them. Regret trailed near behind her, but the First Justice was nearer yet.
Despite her greatest efforts, the target’s injured leg caught onto a root, and she fell on hard earth. Her ankle twinged, and she was fairly certain it had twisted, if not worse. She’d have to fix that somehow before her curse healed it wrong.
“you’ve lost.” the First Justice said, striding over to his target. He returned his bow to his back, the quiver still half full of arrows, some of which she knew were tipped with narcotics. “You know what that means, Kaiden.” He sounded dissatisfied, and that drained Kaiden of any pride she had.
She turned to get a better look at him. That was all she could do, after all, the fatigue—or perhaps the poison—had gotten to her. Once she was prone, she couldn’t find the strength to right herself and run again.
His eyes, normally blue, were stark yellow against the dark night, and Kaiden knew: he wasn’t simply displeased. He was furious. Dread filled her as he continued speaking.
“I am greatly disappointed. You have spent three days in pursuit of the flag, and what do you have to show for it? Nothing. Nothing but a muddy face and shame.”
He was now right next to her, looking down as if she was nothing.
‘I might as well be,’ she thought. Kaiden stared at his shoe, not wanting to make eye contact or even look upwards. She stayed like that for a while, panic slowly setting in.
Then, a rough hand pulled her hair, forcing her to look Santhuff in the eye. “Well?” he spat, teeth bared in a snarl. “What do you have to say for yourself?”
Kaiden simply stared. She could have died if his aim was just a little off earlier, and Lloyd Santhuff never missed. He could have killed her just like that, left her body out to rot with the wolves and vermin, truly killed her by cutting her head off—but he didn’t. She needed to keep it that way. If she said anything, it could—would—get worse.
The forest was silent for a few moments, the only sounds being the crickets, the swooshing of the branches, and Kaiden’s wildly beating heart.
Then he let her hair go and she crumpled to the ground in relief.
Santhuff turned to leave, and Kaiden made to follow—as best she could—but he stopped her with a swift kick to the ankle. The twisted one. She bit her tongue, drawing more gold blood, and braced herself for more blows.
One on her back, another at her gut, two more on her other leg, and a final one to the gut. Kaiden tried her best to stay silent, but she let out sob after sob.
A kick. Then another sob. Then another kick, and another, and another.
Then, finally, he stopped the assault, and stepped away.
“Come to the clearing a league north,” he said, voice devoid of any of the rage from mere moments ago. “In 3 hours. Don’t be late.”
And then he was gone, leaving the knight with the twinkling stars above. They didn’t seem so helpful now. In fact, they seemed to call to her now, mockingly:
‘Come join us, foolish girl, you will never succeed. The only certainty you have is death, so for once, do the useful thing and join us!’
~~~
It took Kaiden a couple of hours to make it to the rendezvous point. She was worried that she was late, but if Santhuff’s silence was anything to go by, she wasn’t. ‘Thank the stars,’ she sighed with relief.
Back to Vespar they went, a teacher and his student, a hunter and his quarry, the First Justice and the rookie Azari he’d sworn to mold to perfection. No matter what.
———
and then they lived happily ever after n Lloyd got yeeted off a cliff <3

Writemas Day Two!
SO I missed Day One that’s my bad whoops BUT ☝️
I did Day Two! Here are the prompts for today , and if you’d like to join in, go here! (Messed up the link earlier my b)
the prompts I chose were:
“You did this… for me?”
(feeling) Ice
Their eyes met, and it felt better than anything else in the world, it felt right.
(setting) library
I tried to add in a hug but alas! this got a lil too long for my liking :/
ah well. what can ya do.
hope yall enjoy!
———
The Azari squires had been in the library for hours now, studying hard for their final examinations. As the sun’s light returned to its place past the frost covered mountains, the squires left, some on their own, most in pairs. Soon, the library was empty save for two squires, still studying hard.
When the room was completely dark, and the runelights flickered on, one of the squires leaned over the table and poked his companion’s arm.
“Hey, hey Kaids,” he whispered.
She ignored him, simply turning the page of her book, which was now slightly more illuminated by his glimmering butterfly wings.
“Kaiiiiiiii,” he tried again.
No answer. Kaiden scratched her nose.
“KaiKaiKaiKai—“
“Shush, Felix, I’m reading.” she interjected, still focused on her book.
“She finally speaks!” Felix chuckled. “I got something for you!”
Kaiden finally looked up from her book, giving Felix a deadpan stare. “What?”
He disappeared under the table for a moment, then popped back up and plopped a small rectangular box onto Kaiden’s book. “Ta da!”
“You did this…” she took the present, running her fingers along the sloppy wrapping, and the lopsided bow, and the chicken scratch that passed as Felix’s handwriting that spelled out her name.
“…for me? You did this for me?” she repeated, turning the parcel in her hands.
“Yeah! Open it?”
“Mmm.” Kaiden pushed her books to the side, then started carefully unwrapping the present. A small pile of green and red paper formed near her as Felix looked on, bouncing up and down in his seat. After the wrapping was the box, and nestled inside it was a small jewelry chain. Its cool metal felt like ice in her hand.
“So? What do you think?”
Kaiden looked up at her friend, and when her eyes met Felix’s she felt … good. Happy, even. Content? Either way, she felt right.
“I love it,” she replied, giving one of her rare smiles. “Thank you, Felix.”
“You’re welcome~ also—” he got up and collected all the books with a wave of the hand, “—would you like to head back yet? It’s pretty late, and I’d like to see if we can get seconds at the cafeteria before everyone else.”
“Yeah, we should get back. Lead the way.”

Kaiden would gravitate to the bar, get slightly tipsy, and then retreat to a corner. She’s not a fan of crowded spaces, and she’d use intoxication as an excuse not to talk to anyone.
Felix, on the other hand, would either be on the dance floor, or following Kaiden around. He’s an extrovert, for sure. He also likes hanging with his friends :3
Aleksi would not get drunk, or go to the dance floor, but he’d go to the balcony outside simply for the crisp air and quiet. Like Kaiden, he’s an introvert, but he thinks it might not be a good idea to be intoxicated at a ball.
Li Hua would be surprised that she’s even attending a ball, as she’s an outlaw. She’d immediately be suspicious and stick to the corners.
Your OC has to attend to a ball. At the ballroom, there's a dancefloor; a bar where both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are being served; secret corners where they can watch the room without being seen; and outside there's a lonely balcony. Where would your OC choose to stay?

Writemas Day Twenty!
WOWIE. this event has gone by so fast! it’s been so fun raaaaaah I’m gonna miss this lil thing 💔
anyways, here are today’s prompts!
and the ones I used were:
setting: pub
the sweetness of chocolate
and that’s it! this is a continuation of yesterday’s writemas, so if you’d like… here it is wink wink nudge nudge >:]
tried to switch POVs and idk if it worked but ah well :/
———
“Felix, wait!” Kaiden called, clumsily slipping off her skates and slipping into her boots.
Her friend was fast, speeding from bridge to bridge, down ladder to ladder. She didn’t understand why she was intent on getting to him—all she knew was that he was scared, and while chasing him probably didn’t help, leaving someone to their emotions was even worse. She’d know.
Sprinting through a frost-covered city was hard. Way harder than Kaiden thought it would be. But, as he finally slowed down, she let herself slow as well. Trading speed for stealth, she trailed Felix, hiding in random locations when he looked behind.
Several minutes passed, and she had no idea where they had ended up. Felix would definitely know, though, so it wasn’t a problem.
~~~
‘Where even am I?’ he wondered.
He didn’t think Kaiden would follow him for long, what with her finally seeing his wings, the most prominent mark of his fairy heritage. Most were uncomfortable with it, some were downright disgusted. She wouldn’t be any different.
He finally stopped walking, slipping into what looked like a pub. Not bothering with re-glamouring anything, he took a seat at the back of the establishment. He put his head in his hands, choosing to fold his wings—they were still visible, but less so—and pray to the stars that Kaiden hadn’t followed him. The city wasn’t safe, after all, especially for someone who didn’t know their way around it yet.
‘But even if she did trail me, who am I to judge?’ he thought. ‘I blindly ran here first, for gods’s sake!’
If she was in danger now because of his carelessness, then… the thought terrified him even more than Kaiden’s possible negative opinion. He bolted back up and headed to the door.
He was met with a familiar face, one creased with worry and only slightly winded from the impromptu marathon.
~~~
Kaiden quickly took his arms and shook him a bit. “What the stars were you thinking?!” Her eyes were bright gold now, she could tell. No point in hiding them. Between the unfamiliar place and her missing friend, she assumed she had a good enough reason to be worried.
Felix, completely stunned, didn’t say a word. His pale grey eyes darted from left to right, and Kaiden noticed that markings under them were starting to emerge.
“What are you doing?” she asked softly, trying to calm herself and Felix down. Loosening her grip, she let her hands rest on his shoulders.
“I, uh…”
Kaiden nodded slowly.
“Well… it’s a long story.”
“… A long story.”
“Yes…?”
Kaiden looked at Felix for a moment longer, then she sighed and pulled him back into the pub.
“Sit.”
He sat. So did she.
“Talk. We’ve got time.”
So he did. And she listened.
~~~
“…That,” she concluded, sipping her mug of hot chocolate, “is a predicament.”
“You don’t say,” he agreed, shrinking deeper into his chair.
Kaiden observed him, as she did so many times before, but obviously he was quite different than what she was used to. For starters, his eyes were grey, where before they were a murky brown. Framing them were small butterfly shaped markings, which matched his shimmering wings.
Of all the things she expected Felix to be—a merchant’s son, maybe, or a circus performer—an esteemed nobleman was not it. Well, maybe ‘esteemed’ was a stretch, but it still stunned her.
She felt a pang of sadness when she realized Felix didn’t trust her enough to be his real self near her, but she understood why he hid himself under layers of glamour. She’d have snuck out of the house all the time if her mother was as overbearing as Lady BonaDea. At least he hadn’t changed himself too much—he still looked like himself, but more… Fae.
“What… what are you going to do about it?”
She took another sip of her drink, the sweetness of the chocolate contrasting the tense atmosphere. “Hm?”
“What are you going to do? Turn me in?” Felix asked, eyes narrowing in suspicion.
Kaiden nearly choked on her hot chocolate. Coughing, she asked, “Now, why would I do that?”
Felix blinked. “Because… you could get paid a lot for it…?”
“You think I value a few coins over your trust?”
Felix shrank a little more. “No…”
“You think I’d condemn you to being a prisoner in your own home?”
He somehow shrank even more. “No.”
“Then why would you think I’d ‘do something about it’?”
He was silent at this.
~~~
Felix flinched a little as she stood, and kept his eyes on her as she moved around the table to him. If she was lying, well, she’d soon regret it. She took his hand, gently, and led him outside of the pub.
The icy air still bit at the pair, but the snow had long since stopped falling. His mind whirled. What if she was lying? What if she was heading to find a Guard and report the situation? She was obligated by law to do so, if Felix remembered his studies correctly. He had planned for this, of course, but the mere thought of having to hurt a friend made his head spin and his heart twist.
His thoughts trailed off as he felt an arm wrap around his shoulders, pulling him a bit closer. He stopped walking, as did she.
Resting her head on his, Kaiden murmured, “You’re my friend, Felix. I’m not going to do that to you.”
Felix felt tears prick the back of his eyes, and he nodded slightly. She squeezed a little tighter, but not tight enough to even pinch his top wings. They stayed like that for a bit, not minding the strange looks from passersby.
The moment ended much too soon for Felix’s liking. She pulled her head back up and said, “Now let’s get home, yeah? Or back to Liaba? Lead the way.”
‘Shit.’ He had forgotten about that. “…I have no idea where we are.”
“What.”

Writemas Day Five!
let’s get into it!
the prompts for today!
and here are the ones I used:
The whispers of the wind
“What have you done?”
Sobbing
His smile was beautifully wicked
The sting of heartbreak
hope yall enjoy!
———
The wind whispered through the cracks in the walls, rippling the puddles of various liquids that littered the floor. A man, bound and gagged in a chair at the center, shuffled in discomfort at the ropes chafing his wrists, the pinch of hunger that he’d grown used to over the week, and the ache in his legs from sitting for so long. He downright moaned in pain at the bruises and cuts all over his body, and simply wished to pass out for the pain to stop. He couldn’t do that for long, though, so he took to telling himself random facts to stay awake. ‘Your name is Aydin, the sky is blue, there is a puddle to your left, the doorknob is jiggling—wait, what?’
Suddenly the door opened, creaking on rusty hinges. In walked another man, this one with eyes paler than ice, hair darker than midnight, and a freshly pressed Azari uniform, so unlike the one the bound man wore.
Aydin looked up, blood dripping from his nose. The two men’s eyes met, and Aydin surprised a shiver when the new man grinned and ripped off the gag.
“What do you want?” he managed, almost coughing with how dry his throat was. He braced for a backhand to the face—it was what he’d come to expect these past few days for speaking out of line, though he didn’t know why—but it never came.
“Well, you know what I want, Derava,” the man started, eyes flicking over Aydin’s scowl when he called him by his surname. “And you should call me by my title, you know? Or are you too stupid to do so?”
“I told you, I know nothing! Why would I? I don’t even know what the Nikasa is,” he retaliated. “And I won’t be calling you by any name other than ‘motherfu’—”
This time a backhand did come, and Aydin fought the urge to spit the blood in his mouth at the man. Instead he glared, eyes burning with hatred.
“It is Sir Santhuff to you, maggot. You know what I want,” the captor repeated, rubbing his hand with annoyance, “but today I think we need a small change in routine. Oh, now don’t look at me like that, Derava,” he added when his eyes met Aydin’s, “this’ll be entertaining for the both of us. Or rather, the three of us.“ Sir Santhuff faced the door and motioned to someone beyond it.
Aydin looked past him to see a figure clad in all black, save for the small star badge on her shoulder—‘A rookie, by the looks of it’—stood in the doorway, eyes widening as her gaze traveled all over the room. When she caught sight of Aydin, he almost felt bad for the kid. Her face could only be described with horror.
Horror was what gripped him when she entered the room and he could see his old pupil clearly.
“Why is she here?” Aydin spat, glowering at Santhuff. “Kaiden, leave. Get out, now!”
Santhuff ignored him, looking towards Kaiden, who had frozen. His smile was cruel, so cruel, and strangely beautiful. Beautifully wicked, that is. It only expanded more as the rookie started to speak.
“What…what have you done…?” she managed to eke out. Despite her fear, or repulsion, she still kept a solid stance. Aydin appreciated that—at least she remembered something he taught her.
Santhuff’s smile still hadn’t wavered. He made his way towards her, and Aydin saw her flinch ever so slightly. “You remember what I said about special training, no?”
Kaiden nodded, eyes still fixed on Aydin.
“Then this—” he waved a hand to Aydin, “—is your test. Prove to me that you deserve my time and effort, and they are yours.”
Kaiden stood like a statue, unmoving. It almost surprised Aydin to hear her voice. “What do I do…?”
“I’m glad you asked. Take this.” He gave her a small blade and closed her fingers around it. “Get rid of our traitor here.”
Aydin was much too stunned to speak. There was no way he, a simple swordsmanship instructor for the Azari, would be called a traitor under normal conditions. Was that why he was being kept here? Starved, beaten, tired? For something he didn’t even do?
Kaiden seemed to think this too, as she took a breath and turned to look Santhuff in the eye. “Instructor Derava couldn’t have done anything! He’s an Azari, isn’t he?” She motioned to Aydin’s tattered and bloody uniform.
The smile dropped from Santhuff’s face as he shoved her forward, deeper into the room. “That,” he spat, jabbing a finger at Aydin, “is no friend of ours. And you,” his finger made its way to Kaiden, “will follow the same fate if you do not comply. Understood?”
Kaiden stayed still. ‘What is she thinking?!’ Aydin thought. The First Justice never went back on his word. She’d die right here.
After what felt like hours, Santhuff caved. He pulled Kaiden out of the room for a moment, and all was silent as Aydin gave his final prayers to whatever deity would listen.
~~~
When Kaiden entered the room again, Aydin knew he was done for. A darkness clouded her eyes, and something else… though he could not tell what.
The room was pitch black—perhaps as a mercy to the future murderer—but Aydin closed his eyes anyway. He could still hear though, and the last thing he felt was the sting of heartbreak.
She was sobbing as she killed him.
Full Moon Festival: Part Two
under the cut!
Before he could reply, she dropped down onto a shabby roof, and then descended onto the road in front of it. Felix followed, and as two knights moved forward, the ornate decor of the festival above faded away into the grime and disrepair of the Bay.
———
“So…. Now what?”
The pair had been captured. Apparently, charging headfirst into an experienced criminal’s hideout was a pretty stupid idea.
They were tied up in a dim room, the only light coming from a weak rune fixed to the ceiling. The ropes weren’t too tight, but they still prevented the pair from getting out.
Just as Kaiden was about to reply to her bewildered partner, a loud thump reverberated through the room. In stepped the Butcher: tall, stocky, and covered in gore. She looked them up and down—as best she could, considering the lighting issue—and despite her heartbeat deafening her, she nearly giggled at how the Butcher fit their name so well. If she didn’t know any better, she’d have bought some meat from them and be none the wiser to their killing sprees.
It seemed like Felix had the same thoughts, as he did laugh—with a hint of fear—at the Butcher’s appearance. “Damn—that’s why the Guard gave you that nickname!”
The Butcher was silent.
“Not much of a talker, are we?” The half-fairy asked, leaning back in his chair, seemingly oblivious to the fact his hands were tied. Kaiden wondered why he hadn’t burned the ropes like the paper ball, but she realized something must have been blocking his magic.
“Don’t think they are, Fel.” she interjected. Her voice was quiet.
“Well perhaps they’re just shy?”
“Probably. But maybe they’re savoring the moment. You know, before they chop us up and sell our parts on the black market?”
“Oh, no. The black market doesn’t fetch good prices,” the Butcher finally answered. “Luckily, I’ve made the acquaintance of many other buyers who would pay ten times the amount that those fleas do.”
Kaiden was now snickering along with Felix, the soul bind transferring his ease and confidence into her, if only a little bit.
That bit was all she needed to start thinking clearer. She began discreetly loosening the ropes binding her hands; if she could get to her knives…
Felix’s eyes flicked to his right, and lit up when he noticed what she was doing. He then asked—the Butcher—“Really? How much do they pay?”
“I’m afraid I can’t disclose that information to you.” he replied. “Even if I did, there’s no use. You’ll be dead mere moments after I finish speaking.” The Butcher began moving to the other end of the room, strangely quick and agile for such a large figure.
A small table hidden in the corner of the room—lined with knives, machetes, and various other devices splattered with blood—was the killer’s destination. They chuckled, low and intimidating, as they picked up a large cleaver. “See, if you two were of sound mind—which I doubt, considering you came here, but that’s another story—you’d see that I’ve freed all these people! They weren’t well off, you know? They wouldn’t contribute anything to society, those worthless little creatures. Now, at least their bodies can be put to use! And oh, what a use it will be…” the Butcher monologued, grinning ear to ear. “I will free you two as well! Consider it a favor, a good deed done to—“
The wild look in their eyes quickly faded as a knife hit the rune above, snuffing its light and covering the room in darkness. They soon realized the chairs in which their prey were tied to were empty. Rage engulfed the Butcher, and they frantically looked around the room for the knights.
Unfortunately for the Azari partners, Felix’s fairy wings always let off a pale glow, and so the Butcher noticed the pale light now exiting the room. They did not falter. Barreling out the door, they bellowed, “GET BACK HERE!”
Obviously, the knights ignored the killer and kept sprinting down the desolate streets of the Bay.
“They’re gaining on us, Kai!”
“I can see that!”
“So what do we do?! What’s our plan?”
“Keep running!”
“You don’t say? Really, I was gonna stop and do a little dance—”
The Butcher cut the half-fairy off as they lunged in his direction, nearly cleaving his head in two. Felix managed to dodge, just in time, and threw the colorful Mots right into the cutthroat’s eyes. They roared in pain, or perhaps fury, as they blindly swung their cleaver around, hoping to hack their victims to bits.
Kaiden, who had slowed down to try and bury her second knife into their chest, hissed as the cleaver skimmed over her leg, gold blood splattering onto the pavement.
“Kai!”
“I’m fine—keep going!”
“I—“
“I said—“ she gritted her teeth and started to sneak behind the Butcher “—keep going!”
“I’m not leaving—“
“I have a plan, just keep them distracted!”
That satiated Felix’s anxiety, and he obliged, hooting and taunting the Butcher while his partner put her plan into practice.
Said plan was simply waiting for the correct moment, and smashing the hilt of her spare knife into the killer’s temple, causing them to crumple in a heap on the pavement.
The knights took a moment to catch their breath, checking to make sure the Butcher was knocked out.
“Hey, Kai,” Felix said through gasps, “Your leg’s still bleeding.”
“Mhm. It’ll be fine. Call Captain, yeah? Tell her we—“
“On it.” Felix quickly prepared (with the help of the Combustion rune) and released the Search rune, small and dimly glowing red. The crimson light zipped upwards, straight to Azari Tower, where it would reach their Captain and alert them that the killer had been apprehended.
“I told ‘em that Butcher’s been knocked out for a bit, and that we’re gonna need someone else to take them up to the Tower. I also told them everything was well, and you only sustained a small injury. All good?”
Kaiden smiled. “All good.” A pause, then, “Wait, they’re not going to stay down long, you should—“
“Oh yeah.” Felix bent down, and with a short muttered spell, pushed the Butcher deeper into unconsciousness. “That’ll keep them for… maybe a half hour?”
“That’s plenty of time.”
“You should probably get that patched up before we—“
“Before we get going, yeah. Got any—?”
“Mhm!” He tossed Kaiden a little bundle of bandages.
“…this Oath thing is weird.”
“Agreed, but it’s a little funny, don’t you think?”
“Why don’t you tell me?”
Both Felix and Kaiden chuckled. Now that her leg was bandaged, she got up and tried walking. The bandage stayed steady. Good.
“Let’s get going?” she asked.
“Yeah.”
———
And so, the two knights made their way back up to the main festival roads. The Search rune had returned to them with a short congratulatory message and permission to take the rest of the night off, as a reward—much to Felix’s delight.
Before they started with the festivities, the pair sat down on top of Darla’s little inn, waiting for Kaiden’s leg to heal a bit. It twinged a bit while she climbed, but Kaiden brushed it off. The views were better here, anyways.
“This soup is so gooddddd~” Felix mumbled, mouth full of the thick vegetable soup that the innkeeper had prepared for them.
Kaiden simply nodded, guzzling at her own bowl. “You finished yet?”
“Mhmf—almofst”
“…don’t talk with your mouth open, stupid.”
Felix swallowed the rest of his stew. “I’ll do what I want, thanks.” He gave Kaiden’s almost empty bowl a glance. “You gonna finish that?”
She didn’t answer, deciding to slurp the rest of the soup in one go. She then held the now finished bowl out to Felix.
He took it—with a fair amount of sass, and a muttered “Am I some servant to you?”—then dropped onto Darla’s terrace to give the bowls back and pay.
Felix flitted back to the knight’s resting place, and stayed hovering in place. “You feeling better?” he asked, practically humming with excitement.
Kaiden answered with a nod and a smile. She dropped from the rooftop now, followed by Felix. The pair made their way to the still-crowded street, and donned their masks once more.
“Happy Full Moon, Fel.”
“Happy Full Moon, Kai—GACK!”
Kaiden sprinted off, cackling at the sight of her parter-in-justice’s formerly monochrome outfit being splattered with a motley of color.
“Oh you’re gonna pay for that!” Also howling with laughter, Felix gave chase while simultaneously wiping the Mots off his clothes.
WOOP
not quite a “monster”, buttttt… well you’ll see!
Edit: forgot to add the cut lol
———
The sun crested over the tallest mountain, casting an orange light over the residents of Daeryn, most of which were heading to work or school on this fine morning.
A little girl with her father were one of the people out and about, the former literally glowing and skipping with excitement at the prospect of starting grade one. Her father walked behind her, giving a small smile and greeting to everyone they passed on the way to the schoolhouse.
After some time, more and more kids started appearing, some quite bored with the start of yet another school year, and others, like the little girl, happily chattering with their former playmates, now classmates.
“Alright, Dee, here’s your school. Have a good day, sweetheart,” the father said, giving his daughter a kiss on the head and a little hug. “Be kind, behave, eat your lunch, and have fun, alright? Look for Liang, he’ll show you where to go.”
The girl, Dee, being silent as she always was, simply nodded and beamed as she skipped to the school gates. She waved, then turned, and into the school she went.
Students of many different ages crowded the courtyard, but Dee wasn’t worried one bit. The beads in her braided hair clacked as she made her way to a big old tree in the corner, where another child—‘Liang!’—waited for the younger girl.
When she made it there, Liang greeted her with a big smile, pointed ears wiggling with delight. “Hiya Dee!”
Dee waved, her smile mirroring the child’s.
The smile dropped almost immediately when she saw who had come up behind Liang.
They were tall. So tall their head was almost completely obscured by the swaying branches of the mountaingrove.
Their fingers had many segments, too many segments, and they were long. Those fingers brushed the branches of the tree away, so that Dee could get a look at this thing’s eyes.
They were pinpricks. Pitch black pinpricks.
Dee was frozen. She didn’t even answer when her friend asked what was wrong.
‘They look like the scary ghosts…’ she thought, hands trembling and eyes filling with tears.
The creature started speaking to Liang in a language Dee didn’t understand, but when they saw her, they switched to Niali. “Oh! Who is this?” they asked, coming forward and bending their long body to look right into Dee’s eyes.
Dee was still frozen.
“…it seems I’ve scared this child. Oh dear.” the creature said, straightening back up and stepping into the light of the courtyard. When the light hit them, they looked…less scary? Dee felt herself relax, if only a bit.
They said something else in that strange language, then the creature made off into the school building. Dee relaxed completely now.
“…Uh, Dee?”
Dee turned to her friend, head cocked to the side.
“…That was my uncle.”
The little girl was baffled. How could such a scary looking man be her friend’s uncle?
“Yeah… I don’t think you two have met. Sorry I didn’t tell you earlier…”
Dee walked to Liang and placed a hand on the half elf’s shoulder. She didn’t mind, really. Now that she knew this uncle was not a ghost, nor a monster, she was a lot calmer.
“Are you okay?” Liang asked.
Dee nodded.
“Then do you wanna try and meet Uncle again?”
Dee nodded again, taking Liang’s hand and pulling him to the school.
———
oh my god this took so damn longggggg
anyways i don’t really have monster stuff but like. I thought maybe kaiden (that’s dee here lmao) would be a little scared at seeing a full grown elf for the first time so I wrote about it! :)
Writemas Day Twenty-Three
YAHOOOOO SECOND TO LAST DAY
here’s a lil thingy with child Kaiden (about 6-7) and her family! very cute teehee
I originally was gonna do an angst thing but idk it wasn’t hitting so yuh
today’s prompts!
and the ones I used:
setting: blizzard
feeling: the charm of a smile
Kaiden pressed her face against the window, mesmerized at the blizzard raging outside. She wondered how much snow would fall; if their house would be covered in it, or maybe the whole mountain would be a blanket of fluffy white frigid-ness. That would be fun. All that snow to play in!
“It is snowing out there, isn’t it?” Mama asked, knitting as she always did when the family of four was trapped inside.
“Mm,” came Papa’s reply, eyes still closed while he lay on the couch.
“Oh, Kaiden, come here. You’ll catch cold if you’re too close to the window, dear.”
She reluctantly followed her mother’s words, sitting near Issac instead. He played with blocks, clacking them around and giggling at the sounds they made. She still stared at the furious fluttering snowstorm, slightly annoyed at not being able to press her face against the window. It felt nice.
“That’s better. Thank you, dearie,” her mother smiled, and Kaiden felt its charm from the other side of the room. She liked Mama’s smile. It felt nice, too.
What didn’t feel nice was the sound of her baby brother banging his blocks together. It hurt, kind of. Not like a scrape, or a tummy ache, but another kind of hurt. She wanted him to stop. But how…?
After some thought, she decided a gently placed pillow smack would do the trick. Standing up, she took a small pillow from her father, and as she raised it over her head—
“Kaiden, no,” Papa said, eyes still closed.
“…wasn’t gonna do it hard…” she mumbled.
“Still.”
After some more thought, she supposed giving him another toy would have to do. One that was small. And soft, so it wouldn’t make noise. She looked around the living room, searching for the perfect toy to replace the blocks, and… there! A little stuffed chicken, right next to Mama’s knitting chair. Kaiden stepped over the blocks, and the scattered pillows, and finally the chicken was in her hands.
She went back to Issac and waited till he looked at her. Then, she showed him the stuffy. He didn’t seem interested at first, but after seeing her pretend-play with it, he started babbling and making to take it. Kaiden gave it to him gladly.
Another victory! Kaiden sat closer to the window as a little reward for herself.
Writemas Day Eighteen!
watch me speedrun this ong
todays prompts!
the ones I picked:
softness of blankets
(safe)house setting
“Light fought the dark, and finally, dawn broke.”
———
Kaiden woke to warmth. A lot of it, soft, gentle, caressing. She stretched, but immediately stopped when a cool breeze touched her arm.
‘Too cold!’ Quickly, she put her hand back into her cocoon of blankets, snuggling deeper into it.
She was tired, but in a good way. Like she had ran for days, but beat a record. She wondered as to why she felt so accomplished, then it hit her.
Her Order had returned victorious from a group mission, one that was her first ever excursion with them. How could she have forgotten?
Kaiden bolted upright, the sudden excitement coursing through her body. She immediately regretted that, however, when a sharp pain shot through her lower stomach.
Belatedly, she realized that she was injured, her abdomen bandaged and stitched up. She slowly lay back down, careful not to rip any of the stitching.
She looked to her left, and she saw Felix, snoring softly on the cot next to hers. ‘Poor guy must be exhausted,’ she thought, ‘what with all the healing he must have done.’ If she was hurt, then the others must be as well. Instead of waking him, she decided to gaze out the window to her right.
The stars sparkled, like scattered gemstones embedded in an inky rock. It was still so dark, but judging by the deep reds cresting over the horizon it would be bright soon.
Oh well. There was no need to stay awake.
Light fought the dark, and finally, dawn broke. It found Kaiden slumbering peacefully again.
———
woooooo cranked this out in 20ish minutes anyways
Writemas Day Fifteen!
helooooo we have a lil one today but I can see myself actually fitting it into the story yay
alternate introductory blurb: me when I realize I don’t have to write a whole ass scene for these >:3c
anywho.
the prompts for today
the ones I picked were:
The danger of obsession
setting in an alley / bridge
She shattered her hopes and her dreams into pieces, and she took the jagged edges between her fingers and held them close to her heart, they would serve as a scarring reminder of what would never be done, of what she would never become.
the anticipation of darkness
eat up guys 😌
———
She had shattered her hopes, her dreams, her heart into jagged pieces, so that she may grip them between her fingers and beat down the ones who made her do so.
But to do that, she needed answers. And she had found them.
Across one of the many rope bridges crisscrossing the city, this one connecting a blacksmith’s forge and a shady butcher, there were alleys. Many of them, like weasel burrows going down, down, down into the Bay. A perfect spot to mug or murder someone, Kaiden knew.
It was also the perfect spot to hide.
Between the shadows clinging to the alleys like the stink of rotting meat to them, there was a little hidey hole, one that Kaiden used to keep hidden when the… power-hungry Guards took their patrol. Today, instead of finding the place empty, she found her target.
She saw this coming, of course. How would she not? She spent the last three weeks stalking this particularly slippery scumbag, trailing them restlessly, day in, day out, the obsession almost ending her… but all that work payed off.
She dropped into the dark alley, checking her blades were in place before venturing further, the anticipation of the shadows before her sending shivers down her spine.
Six Sentence Snippet Sunday!
Good day! For today’s Six Sentence Sunday—courtesy of the @creators-club —AND for Snippet Sunday—where I’m tagging @tracle0 —I’ll share a bit from the Interwoven Halloween Special!
(Psssst lemme know if you’d like to be tagged when it comes out! I’m aiming for the 31st, but it mayyyyyy be delayed by a few days 😅)
———
The two knights were on the opposite outskirts of the crowd—Kaiden on the upper levels of the city, Felix on the lower—needing to stay vigilant for any suspicious activity. A vibrantly decorated stall stood on Kaiden’s right, displaying decroative lunar runes to be sold for the low, low price of three coppers.
The knight leaned against the side of the stall, making sure to stay out of sight from the stallkeep—she didn’t want to be haggled into buying a cheap rune. ‘I—we— need to be focused,’ she thought, ‘and that doesn’t involve partaking in festivities—wait a damn minute.’
Something had caught Kaiden’s eye. She skimmed the rest of the street from her spot, only to facepalm at the sight of her partner-in-justice merrily chatting away with a woman in front of another—somehow brighter—shop.
OC in 15!
thanks for the tag, @the-scaredy-crow !
Rules: Share 15 or fewer lines of dialogue from an OC, ideally lines that capture the character/personality/vibe of the OC. Bonus points for just using the dialogue without other details about the scene, but you're free to include those as well!
I’d have done Harper but I don’t think I’ve written enough of him yet… so you get ✨Kaiden✨
“We’ve got work to do, stupid. Now let’s get going.”
‘I—we— need to be focused,’ she thought, ‘and that doesn’t involve partaking in festivities—wait a damn minute.’
‘Well it seems like I’ll have to change that,’ she thought, picking up a stray flyer. Making her way down and across the crowded street—‘staying in position be damned at this point,’…
“…”
“Probably. But maybe they’re savoring the moment. You know, before they chop us up and sell our parts on the black market?”
“I said—keep going!”
“Mhm. It’ll be fine. Call Captain, yeah? Tell her we—“
“…don’t talk with your mouth open, stupid.”
“[That’s not true.] If it were, I wouldn't have to be so discreet about it, yeah? And on top of that—“ she went back to her book “—I don't care. It's not the case now, and it won't be anytime soon."
“You are blessed, silly, if we're going off the fact we have each other. Did you forget who saves your ass every day? Me, that's who. That’s a blessing in and of itself.”
“‘No need’, Captain? Despite the fact that we’re in hostile territory, alone, and surrounded by deadly creatures able to tear us to shreds? I think I've earned the right to be as serious as I want to be, thank you.”
“I… I’m fine. I’m fine”
“…A good sandwich. I’ll do that [leave you, an outlaw, alone] for a good sandwich.” *pause* “Any food, really, bounty hunting isn’t a stable enough job for me to care about ‘justice’ at this point.”
