Our local nettle also took part offering a workshop in this year’s OSCE Days Berlin. There we got in touch with many material and textile designers and enthusiasts, we extracted fibers with them together and they gladly shared their nettle stories for your story board.

An inclusive dialogue and hands on social refashion experiment start together with slow creations, erie Berlin,Leluma Design, chain re:action

Easy Piece Open World Collaboration is a social, sustainable, ethical refashion experiment and inter-disciplinary collaboration. The creative commons open source pattern will be available as of June 30, 2017, when the project is launched at OSCE Days Berlin.

The process will constantly be openly, non-violently, creatively, scientifically and curiously discussed and evaluated by users, designers, producers, craftspeople, activists, scientists, journalists, economists, politicians, artists, academics and more from every field and corner.

Besides saving and making this world a just and prosperous place,Runa also have a personal reason for launching Easy Piece: It’s just impossible to find what I want in the stores. That super garment respectfully made for me!

I will go to the exhibition and OSCE days event with my knitted easy piece contribution knitted in a Bubbly stick technique in alpaca and linen. It will also be my first time to visit Berlin.

Feeding the City

This week La Salsa Inglesa joined a global event called Open Source Circular Economy Days (OSCEdays). The aim: to create a waste-free and sustainable circular economy based on transparency, open access and open source solutions.

In Bogotá, producers, retailers and consumers came together to share successes and contemplate challenges in the city’s eco-organic food industry.

What shone through during the evening’s discussions was the immense value of connections. Local, small-scale producers benefit from creating networks with fellow producers while conscientious consumers seek to connect with local producers and vice versa.  A strong network could overcome the threat of competition among producers or retailers.

People shared inspirational ventures. A farmer cultivating native varieties of potatoes, a direct trade store rescuing neighbourhood life, and an international organisation counteracting the rise of fast food culture through the promotion of local food cultures and traditions.

The group agreed that education is paramount for the success of Bogotá’s sustainable agriculture market. Many producers need support and technical assistance in design, how to access markets and respond to market needs. Consumers need educating about the additional value of natural, ethically produced goods. For example, the negative impact processed foods have on a person’s health; the destruction of local economies, neighbourhoods and communities through market displacement; and the effects of industrial food production on the environment. Political policies can impede or advance the development of this sector.

Mario Rodriguez from ‘La Despensa’, a direct trade store, explained how he spends approximately 85% of his time educating customers about the benefits of locally sourced, ethically made products sold at a fair price.

The evening concluded with a commitment to strengthen the network of conscientious producers and consumers. To seek opportunities for the sector and to work together to find solutions to some of the barriers identified so far. With so much knowledge, experience and passion in the room this looks set to be an achievable goal. 

There are currently workshops, discussions and network opportunities to promote sustainable production taking place in Bogotá this week between the 11-15th of June. All are free. All in Spanish. Register here.

Open Source Circular Economy Day – Dubai

was held today under the patronage of Dubai Municipality, organized by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sustainability Network in partnership with Dulsco and supported by BlackForest Solutions GmbH.

The event brought together multiple stakeholders for a meaningful discussion on importance of awareness, challenges faced by the emirate, reduction of waste during manufacturing and contribution by all stakeholders towards Dubai’s goals.
