He knew he shouldn’t be but he was. This kind of very formal occasion where he was expected to socialise was not his thing. Lando wasn’t even there to make the whole thing a bit more entertaining and Mark who was supposed to accompany him was stuck at home with the flu. So Oscar has ended up going to the FIA gala with Zak only… Zak who loved to talk to strangers and who had disappeared from their table after the first speech.

Mitch’s heartbeat thrums in his ears, a bloodrush that forces all of his senses to focus in on Oscar. He can’t decipher what in the world Oscar is trying to get at but he’s nosy and susceptible to the whims of his curiosity. He’ll bite. “What did you think about it?”

Oscar is staring at his throat again. “You looked good.” 

Mitch barks out a laugh, bordering on mean. The thought briefly passes in his mind that he’s the older and more experienced driver, that he should probably be kinder to Oscar. Emaphsis on briefly. “What, you watch my races and think about me with a collar on? Really?” 

“I’ve heard stories too, of what you were like back in GP2. After Mark signed me I’d get the occasional question if I’d be just like you in every way.” 

“Yeah? You hook up with Stoffel recently?” Mitch remarks sardonically, despite knowing the answer. There’s no way Stoff would have kept that a secret from him if it did happen. 

“Nah. Your reputation precedes you, I suppose. I guess I’ve just been curious about what you would be like.” It’s as if he’s discussing a topic as mundane as the weather. 

The compliments manage to worm their way right into his head, comfortably feeding into his ego despite his best attempts to try to brush off their entire interaction. Mitch is only human, he can’t resist the carnal intrigue upon hearing someone openly admit to thinking about him, imagining him on his hands and knees. Everything about this is still fucking weird, but there’s an undeniable heat pooling in his stomach. 

The whore rumour isn’t exactly all that far off, anyways.
