"One of the craziest TV shows you'll ever see. It could revolutionize short film distribution." -Indiewire Fresh off its premiere at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, THE EYESLICER is a new hourlong 'secret TV show' from the bizarre minds of Dan Schoenbrun and Vanessa McDonnell (COLLECTIVE:UNCONSCIOUS). Hi all,   We had an amazing time at the Kovacs Award on Saturday night with Kevin McDonald and Dave Foley. They were so much fun and we had a really wonderful Q&A that went longer than any we’ve ever had for a Kovacs Award.  Thanks to all who came--it was a blast!   And on to the last part of our fall season, Alternative Fictions which will be Nov 2nd-5th.  We are working on the details now and can’t wait to share them with you.   That is not all that’s coming up: this week we have another Chis Vognar screening room where we will show The Exorcist. If you have not been to one of these there are a few things to know. #1 they are free #2 you get free soft drink and small popcorn #3 There will be a great Q&A at the end. Wow, is that a great deal or what? You just need to RSVP here    On Tuesday night, our good friends the Dallas Chamber Symphony start of their new season by showing Buster Kenton’s The General with an original score by Doug Pipes. If you have not seen this film, it is one of his best and in these days, it is wonderful to have something good to make us laugh. On Thursday night, at 10:00 PM on KERA TV we are featuring films from St Mary's School in San Antonio. Will Underwood has been teaching these high school kids to make mature films that are not just good student films, they are good films--drama, experimental, animation and documentary, they have it all.   For those in the film making biz, there is a new start-up group for those interested in editing with the FREE Davinci resolve software at Dallas Makerspace,1825 Monetary Ln, Unit 104, Carrollton at 6:30. I hear they will be raffling off a dongle for the paid version. So check that out.   Also on Wednesday, at The Texas Theater they are showing something called Eyeslicer Roadshow, which sounds real cool.  It includes films from some of our favorite filmmakers including Davie Lowery, Augustine Frizzel, Daniel Laabs, Amy Seimetz, the Zellner Brothers, Shaka King, Calvin Reeder, Lauren Wolkstein, Yen Tan, Harrison Atkins, Zie Anger, Frances Bodomo, Borscht, Celia Rowlson Hall, Patrick Bresenan+Ivete Lucas, Ornana, Leah Shore, and Jennifer Reeder.   And if that is not enough for your Wednesday night, it is also the opening event for the Dallas Museum of Art’s new exhibit Truth; 24 Frames Per Second. On Thursday, the museum will have an exhibition talk where Dara Birnbuam and others are scheduled to speak.   In other cinematic news, you should check out Loving Vincent at the Angelika.  I have not seen it yet, but I have heard that it is really great.     Wow what a week!

Watch: Meet a Cute Cardboard Monster in 'Frolic & Mae' Short Film
Meet Frolic. Yet another one-of-a-kind short film to feature and it's worth your time to watch. Frolic & Mae is the latest short from director Danny Madden, founder of the filmmaking collective Ornana. You may recognize his name as he made the fantastic hand-drawn short Confusion Through Sand previously. Frolic & Mae is a much more ambitious short, inspired by films like Gremlins and Lilo & Stitch, about a young girl who decides to create a cardboard monster in opposition to her cousin's friends only wanting to play with their phones. It gets lose, and turns out to be more than she can handle. Although this just premiered at the Atlanta Film Festival, they couldn't wait to release it online for everyone to watch - here it is. Catch it below. ›››

The music video for David Gilmour’s “The Girl in the Yellow Dress” was fluidly animated by Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis, director Danny Madden, and co-founder of production company Ornana Films’ Benjamin Wiessner. Inspired by the design of old French lithograph posters, Powell and Madden used 9,000 hand-drawn frames to illustrate a late-night rendezvous at a jazz club.
Tumblr media
“The animation was touched by several hands to get the layered contours, vibrant colours, and exaggerated character design of old French Lithograph posters,” Madden explains. “We wanted to create a moving version of that look, as if each frame had all the layers stamped on the page.”
Tumblr media
“We animated with pencil, then contour lines were gone over with a brush tip marker. We used gouache to get nice life in the varying brushstrokes, then we layered the contours over the paint layer in the compositing step so that the colours would do interesting things when they ran together.”
