Her ruby red lips still curled up in a pretty smile, Carewyn got to her feet and crossed over to the large tent that Orion, Ben, and Artemis had put up earlier.

“Now then, shouldn’t you get off to bed too?” she said. “If you’re going to be helping us navigate tomorrow, your eyes will need to be in top shape.”

“Yes, but one of us should stand guard over the camp,” Orion pointed out. Seeing Carewyn’s reproachful look, he added a bit more gently, “I shall go to sleep once you have, Ms. Took.”

He suspected that she herself was also the sort of person to not go to sleep until everyone else had. It appeared he was right, since she crossed her arms and gave him a rather cool expression.

“I will go to sleep once I know you’re actually going to go to sleep, not just say you’re going to do it.”

Orion chuckled again. “All right, then.”

Oh gosh, it feels so long ago that I did this AU...I look back on it now and kind of cringe because of how bare-bones it is...but at the same time, Hobbit!Carewyn and Aragorn!Orion are pretty friggin’ adorable, aren’t they?? 🥰

But yeah, while waiting for jury duty last week, I started doodling this, since after talking with @drinkyoursoupbitch​, I had the LOTR AU on the brain, and I thought, hey, why not give these two another try? If nothing else, it’d be fun to highlight the height difference and Hobbit!Carewyn has such an adorable “cottagecore-esque” fashion sense that I thought it’d be fun. ^.^

Birchwood Boyd was born to a family of hippies, driving around California. Esther and Magnus Boyd liked nothing better than to go exploring, hiking, adventuring- and their old beat-up Volkswagen bus was what they lived off of for years. Their first child and only son was the light of their life, and they named him Birchwood Orion Boyd- though as he grew up, he vastly preferred 'Orion'. He was well-loved, accepted openly as whatever he ever wanted to be, and given the creative freedom to explore just like his parents. For the first few years of his life, it was just adventuring. They lived in Oregon, California, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah. Eventually when their family expanded, it was time to settle down in California. Sunshine Boyd was the second child and just as free-spirited. And then came Berryhill Boyd, the youngest sister. Orion found himself working at a surf shop on the California coast and enjoying life- he even was settling down with his high school sweetheart, Emma. But things turned a bit sour as he and Emma got more and more serious. She was very possessive, judgmental, and would shut him down quickly when he tried to contribute. Because she had a bigger and more lucrative career, she would often complain about his lack of funds and his own career aspirations. So Orion decided to go to nursing school. He was with Emma, even engaged, when his family staged an intervention. They could see how terrible she was being towards their family member- and the things he often talked about doing (going hiking and exploring again on the road, doing drag, even adopting a dog) were things Emma would say point blank would never happen. After she got incredibly possessive and paranoid one day, he spoke up about it. There was a physical altercation and that was when he left for good. After that he did what he'd always wanted and went off adventuring on his own in his car. Finally ending up back in Denver where he and his parents had briefly lived when he was young. Now Orion is a nurse for a pediatrician and a full-fledged drag queen (part time!). When in drag she goes by Celeste, and since leaving Emma, his creative spirit has returned in full force. He's always been pan but can now experiment and experience, and has had a wonderful time hiking, dancing, and taking care of kids at the private practice.

Headcanons:

-Orion has a cocker spaniel named Calliope (Callie for short) who he rescued immediately after he broke it off with Emma. Callie went on all his adventures with him and now she's around 6 years old.

-Orion LOVES his family- his sisters and parents are his world and he will openly talk about them to anyone who will listen.

-He actively hikes and camps when he has time off of work and will regularly encourage others to come.

-Orion would give you the shirt off his back- he's a huge softie and loves ghost hunting shows, HGTV, cooking, anything with animals, and learning new things. -He gets a LOT more confident when Orion is 'Celeste'. Sometimes far more flirtatious and open, able to stand up for herself as well.

In a distant time, where most of mankind is putting their unconditional trust in technology, Captain Fred Hamilton has a different attitude.

He is now at Orion Space Complex before its commander facing a charge of insubordination for slapping one of his superiors.

The reason: he refuses to take orders from the WIZ Computer System.

The Commander Armstrong decided not to punish him by now because he thinks Hamilton's mindset will be useful at missions in outer space. And orders the Captain and his crew from the Starship MK-31 to repair a 100 year-old satellite.

After the success of the repair mission, Captain Hamilton receives another order: To track the origin of a signal that interferes with all radio and video communications of planet Earth.

The MK-31 arrives to an alien planet to be received by two flying saucers ready to the attack.

The crew took down one of them and received a direct hit from the other. They had to make a landing on the planet.

In there, they found a race of humanoids who are under the slavery of a giant robot.

It seems the Captain and his crew are the last resort for both Earth and that alien world.

Cosmos: War of the Planets is an Italian space opera film from 1977. Its original title is Anno Zero: Guerra Nello Spazio (Year Zero: War In Space in English). Directed by Alfonso Brescia under the pseudonym of Al Bradley.

Fascinating fact:

A Star Wars rip off that gets its release a few months after the release of Episode IV: A New Hope.

The Professor Carr developed a machine that could give to the ones who own it such a great power to create life but it could also can lead to disastrous results.

At that time, an UFO has infiltrated the planet Earth's security system bringing in a gang of alien robots that kidnapped the Professor and his assitant, Louis.

In the Space Station Sirius, Commander King gave orders to Captain John Boyd and his crew of the Spaceship Trissi to pursue the UFO and rescue the couple of scientists.

There is also an urgent need to rescue the Professor. He is the only one capable of turning off a nuclear reactor. If it is not done, the Station and a nearby city would be destroyed in an explotion.

In the pursuit, they have to face more UFOs. After a intense battle with the saucers, they land on the planet Antor.

There, the crew of the Triss meet a dying world and their inhabitants. They established a friendship with Kuba, the leader of a tribe of slaves who agree to go with them to fight against their tyrannical masters.

Captain Boyd and his crew are about to be witnesses of the true nature of the Professor and his assitant in order to save the future.

War of the Robots, is an Italian space opera film from 1978. Its title is a translation of the original title La Guerra Dei Robot. Directed by Alfonso Brescia under the pseudonym of Al Bradly.

Fascinating facts:

It is not a sequel of Cosmos: War of the Planets. It was produced with much of the production crew, actors and props from the aforementioned movie, but its storyline is different.

The name of Trissi it's also the name of Trissi Sports. The same company in charge of the design and making of the spacesuits.

Orion is the oldest child of Bennett and Eliza Boyd, who met each other at a roller rink in a podunk little Minnesota town. Two rebellious teens who quickly fell in love, they vowed to travel, to see the ocean, and ultimately, to stay together forever. And they did it all. They bought an old beat-up van and drove through the US. They played guitars on moonlit nights, sitting on the roof and watching fireflies.

When Orion came into the world, Bennett and Eliza were thrilled, and had no plans to stop their travel. Toddling little Orion came with them as they drove through dusty mid-western states, along the western coast, and even into Mexico. He was a creative little kid who loved animals and begged for a dog. His mother homeschooled him, teaching him the fundamentals for preschool and kindergarten. Since they traveled so often, he didn’t get to make a lot of friends. When his sister Berryhill came along, his parents began debating more and more the possibility of settling down… at least so their kids could get a proper education. After a few more years of going from place to place, Eliza and Ben settled down in a cute little home in California. Ben found an old shack on a picturesque beach and fixed it up, turning it into a perfect spot to rent out boogie boards, surfboards, snorkel gear, and grab a snack.

As Orion got older, the third Boyd sibling, Sunshine, was born. Orion loved teaching Berry and Sunny everything he knew about surfing, and the three of them spent many afternoons running around in the sand until they came back to the surf shack to help their dad close up for the night. As Orion got older, he studied and worked at the shack, debating college and secondary education. But he wasn’t too smart, and didn’t think he’d do too well. Still, he tried. Eventually, Orion was running it on his own for days on end while their parents traveled again, studying at night. Orion would watch Sunny and Berry, make sure they were getting on the bus for school, and would run the little shop on weekends while attending college. He was dating a beautiful girl, going surfing every day, and working towards a future.

Orion didn’t talk about the fights with his long-time girlfriend Emma very often. He figured people wouldn’t really take it seriously- an adult man, 6′7″, getting slapped around and made fun of by his 5′7″ girlfriend. After being guilted into moving with her to Boston for her to pursue a reporter job, Orion found himself presented with a new start, in a new place. He hated the big city but adapted quickly, meeting new friends at a local drag and karaoke bar, and realizing his own self worth. After a nasty fight left him with fingernail scratches across his face and bruises on his arms, he broke it off with his then fiancée, filing a restraining order and moving himself out to Salem. Since then he’s really come into his own. Orion started doing drag, performing as ‘Celeste’- something Emma never would’ve condoned, and met so many amazing and supportive friends. He’s a certified paramedic and living on his own with his rescue, Jupiter.

He learned about drag queens the way only Hoodie Reynolds can learn about drag queens: he’d slept with one. No, there was no wig, no dress, no pumps. He’d merely told him what he did for a living, I do drag racing, and you? to which the guy gleefully said, Oh, me too! But it wasn’t until after Hoodie had asked, What do you drive? that they both realized they were barreling towards a misunderstanding.

Drag, as it turned out, meant quite a few different things in Hoodie’s life. Taking a drag from his cigarette. Drag racing with his (his boss’) Ford Torino. Dragging his feet to the gas station so he can open the store. Drag queens.

Hoodie let himself be dragged—yet another notable use of the word—to the bar where Josh performs as Eve Apple. And Hoodie adored Eve Apple. As well as the other girls in their glittery makeup and shimmery shoes. Josh... well, not so much. And despite the relationship having been ended three dates in, Hoodie kept coming back to the bar. Much to Josh’s chagrin.

Because aside from Eve Apple, there was one girl in particular who’d caught Hoodie’s attention. The tallest of the bunch, Hoodie figures, and even more so in heels. The one they call Celeste. Great body. Even better dancer. She’s got this way about her, when she swings her hips a certain way and turns and then her dress flares up— the room goes crazy. And the way she handles that attention? So fucking hot.

But that’s besides the point. Not only is she the prettiest girl there, but she’s also the best dressed. Clad in all this shiny jewelry, in gowns that look like they’re worth three months’ rent, and lace front wigs that, according to Josh, are a lot more expensive than non-laced ones. Celeste must have money.

And it’s why he’s sitting at the front row for the third time that month, always arriving just in time for Celeste to come out on stage. He orders a scotch and the waiter gives him this look like he just knows he’s not a scotch person, but he returns with a glass, anyway. It’s the only classy drink that Hoodie knows from what he’s learned from the businessmen that visit Willow’s bar. And damn expensive, too. But if tonight’s going to go the way he’d planned it to, he’s sure this prop will be made up for.

He paces himself with the drink, making sure not to finish it all before Celeste’s slot is over. He makes sure to give her bedroom eyes the entire time, too, leaning back, sitting with his legs slightly parted, and then slightly more. He bites his lips. Lets his unoccupied hand linger on his thigh, pretending to rub at it absent-mindedly as he watches her perform.

Finally, the emcee returns onstage and Hoodie hurried leaps from his seat, drink in hand and, just as he’s about to sneak in backstage, pours a little bit of the golden liquor onto his white shirt.

Celeste had just entered the dressing room. Hoodie takes note of the door as he swiftly turns the corner and bursts in.

“Oh! Oh, my god, I am so sorry. I, uh... this isn’t the bathroom...”
