Writing Treatment - Warning for Fluff

Just something that popped into my head a few weeks ago.

Fondor Needs No Prince—

Meglann enters the large ballroom. When she was younger—much younger, she had dreamed of a fairytale ball like this one; of being on the arm of a handsome prince or beautiful princess, in the company of beautiful, dazzling people.

Before she grew up. She wonders if she is dreaming. She feels a pinch on her arm. “Ow!” she exclaims. “What the hell was that for?” she asks the companion on her arm. She suppresses a giggle at her younger thoughts, of what might be on her arm.” Not bad, she thinks. He might pass for a handsome prince. On some world.

Most of them, she finishes the thought. She hides her smile as she looks Bryne Covenant up and down. He is clad in the dark green dress jacket—an obsolete uniform from his days as a Corellian Ranger—a now defunct organization and calling. She is fairly sure that she is a member of a successor organization.

Maybe a predecessor, as she thinks of the mythology behind the Nine Hells. She suddenly remembers that Covenant hasn’t answered her. She gives him her most imperious look, managing to stifle her sheepish grin. “I’m waiting, bud,” she says.

“Thought you might be remembering childhood dreams, Port,” he says with his easy grin. “Some fairytale poodoo.”

She feels the heat on her skin, down to her toes. She sees him gaze at the exposed skin of her collarbones and neck. She takes a deep breath under his gaze and looks down. He reaches up and lifts her chin with his index finger.

“Hey,” he says, his green eyes warm. “Pretty sure that I’ve got a fairytale princess on my arm. I got the better end of the deal.” She takes a look at the full-length mirror. Her normally untamed bronze curls are piled on top of her head, a couple of strands hanging down over her right cheek. The dark blue dress—Organa blue, trimmed in silver leaves her shoulders and upper chest bare. A strand of Mon Cala pearls, lent to her by a certain Queen of her homeworld, decorates her slender neck. A small silvered representation of a frying pan—a gift from the ‘prince’ on her arm, as well as some who could be termed her ‘princesses,’ hangs below the strand of pearls. She reaches up and fingers the talisman.

He reaches over and kisses her cheek. “I miss them, too, sweetie,” he whispers.

“I thought your Force-hoodoo was on the blink,” she whispers against his cheek, just forward of his ear.

“Maybe,” Bryne replies. “It may be that I’m feeling the same thing you are.”

She nods. “I dreamed of a handsome prince or a beautiful princess on my arm, Bryne,” she says. “I wasn’t too picky.” She feels her eyes sting. “I wish we lived in a galaxy where Ahsoka could be here with us, openly. I could certainly stand to have a beautiful Togruta princess in a gown on my arm.”

“Until she picked her nose,” Bryne says. Their shared laughter makes several of the guests look up at their entrance. Both of them unconsciously straighten as a butler droid trains its photoreceptor on them.

“His Eminence, Bryne, 500th Covenant of Corellia, and Ensign Meglann Dao, representing the Candlewick Throne of Alderaan,” the droid intones. She sees Bryne smile at the alias. Not too far from the truth, she thinks. They take several steps forward until they face the dais.

A young woman, maybe a couple of years younger than Meglann, with a smooth skull, save for a mass of silver hair gathered up in the center, smiles at them with her multi-hued eyes. She wears a similar gown to Meglann’s, save in pale purple with gold trim. Covenant bows, as Meglann copies his movement.

Yelena Dao, Yardmaster of the Aspeff-Dao shipyards of Fondor, steps off of  the dais and takes Meglann’s hands in hers. She kisses Meglann on the cheek. “Hello, cuz,” she says. “It’s good to see you.” She turns her gaze—a gaze that appears to be stabilized in dark green, at least for an instant, before morphing to blue and brown. She dips her head. “Your Eminence,” she says with a slight smile.

“Yardmaster,” he says. “It’s good to see you and visit your world when nobody seems to want to hang me as a ship-thief.”

She laughs, a musical sound to Meglann’s ears. “The night is young, Bryne. Thank you both for coming to share in my Ascension.” She looks at Meglann with a slight smirk. “Thank you for bringing me my reward, for coming to help you on Felucia.”

Meglann is treated to the dangerous eyebrow over Bryne’s left eye rising, nearly to the scars on his forehead.

“Well, I did bring you your third choice. Both Dani and Fulcrum were unable to come,” Meglann says, returning the smirk.

“Hey!”

Yelena reaches up and places her gloved finger on his lips. “Not a bad consolation prize, Meglann,” she says. “I’ll enjoy my dinner with him tonight.” She looks at Meglann. “You, too, dear. My gran will be there as well,” she says, turning and indicating another Fondorian.

Yosta Dao, inclines her head. She is older than Yelena, but looks to be almost an older sister rather than a grandmother. Her dark hair, streaked with gray, is thicker than Yelena’s, belying her half-human heritage, rather than the one-eighth of her granddaughter, but still gathered from the shaven sides.

Neither of the two women would give up who they are, to more closely resemble the bald members of the People, as the original natives of this world call themselves.

Yelena reaches up and kisses Bryne, then Meglann. “Let’s get this ceremonial poodoo over with them. I need a drink.”

Bryne grins, as does Meglann. “You sure you’re not Corellian?” he asks.

“Why would I claim to be one of those milksops?” she retorts.

“Oh, honey,” Meglann says. “It’s on.”

Fusion of universes!

Something with Meglann, if you like, maybe her thoughts on the whole Dani and Maul dynamic? Or her thoughts on Bryne and Ahsoka if you want to really delve....

“Truffles.”

“Truffles?”

Meg nodded, fingers playing over the cup of tea she was given when she forewent the offered alcohol.  Across from her, leaning against her desk, Queen Breha was eying her with some amusement, a smile tugging on her mouth and both humor and curiosity in her eyes.

The fact was, Meg was still kind of awestruck by her queen.  Even though Aldera (and in fact, all of Alderaan) managed to feel like a small town, even though nobility and royalty both walked into her diner to eat, even though their leaders were incredibly accessible, it still blew her mind sometimes that the queen had taken any notice of her.  But thanks to some hesitant but intelligent questions at a university lecture that Breha headed, Meg found herself called aside and then hired; officially her title was handmaiden, as that what the budget allowed for, but in reality, she was part-time assistant and occasional ear-on-the-ground, and only once or twice had she actually been called upon to help Alderaan’s incredibly beautiful queen dress or handle her hair.

Even for as informally as Breha treated her, and as many times as Meg had been told to relax, some part of her still felt what could only be called hero worship around the woman.

Much of Alderaan felt the same way.  House Antilles and House Organa were both among their very eldest and most revered, and their queen was of both of them.  She was loved by most, and those who didn’t had the good sense to be very quiet about it.  The only other woman who inspired that sort of awe on this world still alive was the Queen Mother herself; Meg adored Queen Mazi equally as much as her daughter-in-law.

Now, she was in the– interesting position of trying to explain one Daaineran Faygan, which was a little like trying to describe a force of nature on legs.

“It’s– a pretty typical Dani story,” Meglann started, smiling some both in warmth and for her queen. “Meaning it starts unexpectedly, leads to chaos, arrests, some bruises and, uh, more interesting intimate activities, and ends with her eating enough calories to feed four or five full-grown men.”

Breha huffed a breath out of her nose, saluting with her own mug. “By all means.”

After the escape from Kessel, and Ahsoka Tano’s contact with Soma Jess, former Corellian Green Jedi, Bryne Covenant is troubled by the growing loss of his Force sense. He and Ahsoka discuss whether the little-known Franza disciplines might be able to help him.

Meanwhile, the Imperial Moff of Zygerria presides over a stable world that has supposedly lessened its dependence on slaves. This while Dala Ti, former Kirosian slave, continues to search for the missing Togruta colonists from the Clone War.

A chance bit of information will send Bryne to investigate the possibility that all is not what it seems on that slaver’s world, while Ahsoka goes to Shili at the request of Makyo Ry and his mate, Nataa Shoshi-Ry to investigate the disappearance of a young woman. A young woman who has been selected as a spiritual leader of the Hunt-culture and by extension, the Togruta.

Both of them will be drawn back together, as well as others of their Corellian cell and other allies, as all paths lead back to Zygerria—a place that both of them thought they would never return.

Lassa’s eyes lock on an unfamiliar figure that has moved into the compartment. A young woman of medium height stands in the door, looking at her calmly. She focuses on the interloper.

The young woman looks at her intently with a pair of brown eyes—eyes with a hint of laughter and sparkle. Calmly, but with a tiny hint of trepidation in the body language. Her arms are crossed over her chest. A mass of bronze curls, tied back in a messy ponytail, completes the look. Lassa looks sharply at the rank plaque on the right chest of her plain field jacket. Her mind searches for a snippet of a conversation with Ahsoka.

Something about sending her someone for some seasoning and training. She slams her drink down on the desk. She turns her eyes back to the Weequay. She jerks her head towards the door. He grins, then he and his minions slowly turn and mosey back to the hatch. Loganer stops and looks the young woman up and down. To her credit, the young officer drops her arms to her side, at least the left one. The right one hooks on her belt, only a few inches away from the butt of an extremely large blaster on her hip. Lassa looks on with interest, realizing that the shiny wears an RSKF-44 heavy Corellian blaster. A powerful adornment that takes up most of her right leg down to her knee.

She appears to be comfortable with the weight of the giant weapon. For an instant, she thinks that Loganer might test the newcomer. He shakes his head, looks back at Lassa, then exits the room.

The young woman returns her arms across her chest, focusing on Lassa. She returns Lassa’s appraisal. “I’m Meglann,” she says, starting to come closer, her right hand extending out.

Lassa steels herself, her recent thoughts raw in her mind. She takes a deep breath, then stares at the proffered hand. “I don’t care. I told my Quartermaster that I don’t have the time for babysitting.”

Meglann’s eyes harden. She drops her hand. “Nor the skill, apparently,” she says, her tone dry.

Lassa stands up. “Who the hell do you think you are, little girl? I got underwear older than you. I don’t care how good you think you are, I won’t be insulted on my own ship by a pissant college girl.”

“Looks like it might not be yours much longer, if I understand those so-called ‘Articles’ of yours.”

Lassa involuntarily drops her hand to the holstered blaster in a cross-draw at her waist. She feels the room close in on her as Meglann’s hand moves back to close proximity with the hogleg.

San Adis walks in. His eyes survey the room, a troubled look on his dark features, with his ever-present headdress quivering. He locks eyes with Lassa, shakes his head once.

She relaxes her hand, sees the young woman—one who looks like she has been raised in at least warmth, if not wealth, relax hers as well. A look at her eyes tells Lassa there may have been recent trials in her life.

What do I know? I can’t even read my crew anymore.

“Look, little girl. I don’t know what Ahsoka told you, but I don’t really want to take the time to get you your university credit on my ship. Plus,” she says, nodding at the rank insignia. “We do things a bit differently here. There are no Queen’s Regulations here to protect you.”

“What if I don’t need protecting? I can handle myself,” comes the reply. Lassa almost laughs. She’s not even twenty, I think. She shifts her attention to Adis, who waits patiently, watching the exchange. “What have you found about Thyla? Has she been caught, as we heard?”

He purses his lips. “I don’t know. I do know she was last seen in the Felucia system. There’s been some increased Imp activity there.”

Lassa takes this in, allowing her mind to play over possibilities. She makes it up quickly. “You go there. Find out what you can.” She smiles as she sees her other problem standing there.. “Take Junior here, with you. I’m assuming that shiny new ship might be a trainer?”

Meglann says nothing for a moment. After a moment, she nods. “I think I can squeeze him in, somewhere,” she says, eyeing Adis’s ample girth. Adis rolls his eyes.

Lassa smiles wolfishly. “See that you do. Listen to what he has to say. He was once a Republic naval officer. He can speak your language and recognizes the poker that might be shoved up your ass.”

With that, she turns to the port, watching the stars. She ignores the thunderous looks directed at her back.

Embarrassed? I may have no shame. Maybe not one on AO3, but one that has been lost in perpetuity on Tumblr. A songfic that didn’t go as planned, writing the Corellian version of Over the Hills and Far Away (not the Led Zeppelin song).

Wildest Ride: (I blame you for this one)

Wildest ride Star Wars: Its Chords Asunder for Star Wars as the Wildest Ride with a close tie with To A Place of Beginnings—Think Ahsoka possesses a Sith Lord from the time of Darth Bane, while on Malachor.

Easy. Started writing stories for Star Wars for Ahsoka, using original characters who were archetypes I’d been developing for years.

I have low expectations. 10 hits per chapter for Star Wars. More usually for One Chicago. I do realize original characters aren’t for everyone, but hey, they are for me.

Easy. The entire Minstrel Boy Series, especially the last story. Tied with The Lowest Ebb. My crew of OCs deals with Ahsoka’s loss after Malachor.

Dramatis Personae for the upcoming Star War

Just a little something I put together for my OCs and main canon characters. Madness, I know.

Dramatis Personae (Main characters, original and canon - denoted):

Ahsoka Tano - [canon] (Runt) not-a-Jedi, the original Fulcrum of the Rebellion. Ex-padawan of Anakin Skywalker. Kicked his ass more than anyone has in nearly twenty years. Lost on a hidden Sith world. Sister of the Heart in Zeltron culture for five other powerful women (the Links of the Covenant Chain) and Hunt-sister in her culture of:

Jame Blackthorn (Bait) - half-assed ex-Jedi. Half-assed Corellian noble. Grown-ass Rear-Admiral in the Alliance Fleet (just under Raddus and Ackbar). 500th Covenant (Protector) of Corellia. Hunt-brother in Togruta hunt culture of Fulcrum. Once known as Taliesin Croft and Bryne Covenant. And, oh yeah, half Mandalorian and uncle to Sabine Wren, through his late wife. Brother of the heart to:

Daaineran (Dani Faygan) - Half-Zeltron, Half-Corellian. Daughter of Draq’ Bel Iblis, a once-powerful mover and shaker of Corellia who is one of their missing. Commodore in the Alliance Fleet. The oldest of the Links of the Covenant Chain. The most loving person in the universe. Once the heart-bond of Shaak Ti, Jedi Master of Taliesin Croft. Cousin by marriage of Jame Blackthorn, etc., etc. Now bonded to, but estranged from:

Lassa Rhayme - [Canon] Pantoran Outer Rim pirate and sort-of Rebel. Leader of the Blood Bone Order and captain of the Opportunity. Another Link in the Covenant Chain, the Trusted Other.

Nola Vorserrie - ex-Naboo handmaiden, survivor of a massacre of a her Queen and sister Handmaidens by the Empire, ex-Alderaani government minister, ex-Corellian charitable foundation member, and current logistician and staffer for the Rebel Alliance. Colonel (or Major, depending on whether she has pissed off Jan Dodonna or Davits Draven). Hard to know, sarcastic, but loving to her sisters of the heart and brother of the heart. Foster-sister of Dani Faygan. Pain in the ass, even to her loved ones, but will fiercely protect them. 

Meglann Florlin - Alderaani diner-owner and cook. Daughter of two Republic naval officers who died over Ryloth in the Clone War. Commander in the Alliance Navy, captain of the Jana Sloane, a one-time party-barge, Consular-class and home base for the Links in the early days of the Rebellion. The youngest of the Links of the Covenant Chain.

Delilah Sal - ISB Resident for Corellia. Sometime ally of our heroes, known as the Untrusted Other of the Links for obvious reasons. 

Blank - a former Imperial Deathtrooper. Captured by Blackthorn a decade or so ago, because his head was harder than hers. Freed from most of the brainwashing, but still with her demons. Employed on the Sundered Heart, an Alderaani medical rescue ship.

Alyssina Faygan’ii na Torstan’ii - cousin to Dani, called Sina. Zeltron healer and surgeon, ex-local politician. Married to the former Head of State of Zeltros and the fugitive Senator of Zeltros.

Cubreem Maashu-Ry - Togruta Alliance commando. Adopted son of Shaak Ti’s hunt-brother. Ahsoka and Blackthorn’s child of the hunt (an apprentice in Togruta hunt culture). 

Jamelyn Blackthorn - Jame’s niece and 457th Elector-Presumptive (the Guarantor of Freedom) of Corellia. Squadron commander of A-wings in the Alliance. 

Phygus Baldrick - failed Jedi Padawan, now champion slicer for the Rebellion. Brought to the Jedi Temple with Croft, washed out early. Pain in the ass, who is not as big of a pervert and horndog as he tries to portray himself.

Ano Lessi - Pantoran slicer, one-time employee and ward of Senator Riyo Chuchi. Painful introvert, but has somehow learned to love a painful (to everyone else) extrovert like Phygus.
