Is there a scene with Adar from both season one and two, you think is underrated/doesn’t get enough attention? Or do you think the feral-ness has been pretty well rounded 😂 ? Whether it’s horny level, admiration, or just plain interesting. I love your thoughts on this stuff lol
The answer to your question is ABSOLUTELY YES.
So this is one of my FAVORITE scenes from S1 that I think people forget. It's so quick, there's no dialogue, but
MY MAN HAS NEVER LOOKED BETTER THAN HE DOES HERE, LIKE OH MY STARS. The NECK. The HAIR. The look of "I'm gonna go absolutely FUCK this elven tower up but I'm probably gonna cry while I do it."
The choice to position him right in front of leaves/something growing and alive just... kind of has me BARKING.
Also Background Uruk is ready to SMASH and I love him.
Now, S2 was obviously a FEAST for the Adar enjoyers, but I think we all moved on WAY TOO QUICKLY from the scene where Adar meets Damrod, ESPECIALLY his reaction to Damrod chucking the heads of one of his own children at his feet.
This is the face of a man who knows he Fucked Up, Big Time. I do wish the show had done a bit more on Damrod (like, why was this random hill troll so aggressively concerned with were Sauron is?? Did Sauron personally offend him at an earlier point?? Did Sauron murder a former Mrs. Hill Troll? TELL ME MORE, SHOW)
Also, Sam's Black speech in this scene was SO VELVETY.
PURRRRRRRR.

#anyway also going insane that black speech has a word for love 🥺#maybe adar first invented it for his children 😭😭😭
@orehuna OH MY GOD THIS WAS MY *EXACT* THOUGHT AS WELL.
if there's a word for love, 10000% it's because Adar made one!
ORC CULTURE !!!!!1!1!!!!!
Minor spoilers for Ep7 of trop?
Is anyone else going to lose their mind with me at the fact that trop just gave us a little hint of Orcish culture- which is way more than Tolkien ever gave us. Orc funerals !! They mourn !!!! They gather in silence to watch the last remnants of their kins' beings leaving the world !!!!!! I am going insane !!!!!!!!
That's not even mentioning the expansion of Black Speech- which Tolkien wasn't even interested in developing further than a few dozen words. Apparently he simply lost interest in his dedicated and painstaking explorations of culture and language when it came to the Orcs, so we were just left with a big gaping void- which was filled in the case of Elves and Men (Dwarves to alesser extent) with rich cultural history and nigh-speakable languages.
I'm just happy that the show has filled in a tiny bit of the blank space, and made the lore all the richer for it.

Okay so I'm now wondering: if Glug and the deserters (rather than being the ones to kill Adar ides of march style) will now become the lens through which we see Sauron overtake the uruks.
They've clearly gone out of their way to make Glug a sympathetic character with a backstory that we (at least those of us with brains and beating hearts) can care about.
Because Adar made that direct declaration of love, I think Glug's arc can now play more like "i care about my father but he is making terrible decisions so I'm walking away" and less "I'm gonna bloodthirsty mutiny/murder him."
It would honestly be peak tragedy if Glug witnessed how much more horrible the uruks will have it after Sauron takes over, and then have the moment of horrific realization that "Adar was right."
I think there's about a 50/50 chance Adar lives or dies.
If he lives, I think Nenya heals his corruption, so he will have to live on as an elf, knowing he can't go back to being an uruk and that his children are slaves. NOW THAT'S PAIN.
If he dies, I think it has to be by Sauron's hand. It just has to be. Those two need to FIGHT.
Anyway idk those are my thoughts for the day.

☝️☝️☝️ This was why I so adamantly wanted Glûg to become a multi-season POV character!!! It could have been SO TRAGIC to watch him return to Mordor with Sauron and have to go to Mrs. Glûg like "WE FUCKED UP BIG TIME." Then we could have seen firsthand how Sauron re-enslaved them and, you know, kept the pathos train chugging. But no, I'm sure now orcs will just be Evil.
*sigh*
i am so curious what they will do with the uruk storyline in s3. if they entirely sideline them as mindless slaves of sauron i will be so disappointed. the adar/uruk story was one of the most compelling and unique parts of the show imo. what becomes of glûg jr, huh? i need to know. i'm just an orc girlie at heart honestly. they've always had names and hearts!!!!! to me!!!!!!

One of my biggest beefs with uruks as a species is their lack of night vision. Like???
They are creatures tailored for darkness yet they have to travel with torches at night??
Another thing! They burn in sunlight yet try to carry out daily tasks during the day instead of becoming nocturnal and working at night?
Make it make sense!
GAHHHHH i'm glad you brought this up!
Honestly I so often catch myself out on this when I'm doing my own fic writing. They would have NO REASON to move and do stuff in daylight. If they do, there are Logistical Concerns that need to be taken into account! So yes, imo, they should be mostly nocturnal.
Also agree on night vision!
"Make it make sense" is not TROP's strong suit, UNFORTUNATELY!!!

do you think glug will FINALLY get a souvenir or something to bring home to the family this episode? he missed out on bringing gleaming galadriel hair last time, there's got to be some kind of gift shop he acn hit up!!
omg yes i lowkey hope he can get inside Celebrimbor's workshop during the siege, maybe pilfer a few priceless jewels for Mrs. Glug to wear so she can be the envy of everyone in their tent circle.
Or you know, a My First Feanor's Hammer for uruk baby, perhaps?

Not me, reconciling myself with the lack of a known Uruk word for "love" probably stemming from the fact that Adar was likely the one who taught it to his children and used it the most, and it basically died out from their collective cultural memory after returning to Sauron.
AMIGO THIS IS ABSOLUTELY MY EXACT HEADCANON AND I AM DEVASTATED BY IT HOURLY.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
#adar#good dad adar#HE LOVED THEM SO MUCH#and yes i believe every good kind word that the uruks ever knew adar taught them from elvish and sauron wiped from their minds#orcses! [affectionate]

Ughhhhhh i think Glug and the others are gonna find out too late that Adar was right and I'm so scared for them
Adar's storyline turned out to be the most touching for me this season. We were shown the severity of the decision he's making. Adar knows what it's like to be at the mercy of darkness and he doesn't want that fate for his children. He'll have to send them to war to try to defeat Sauron, and he knows that many won't come back, but I suppose he really believes that death is better than slavery. And he has to watch his children die and he literally has no other choice, while the survivors begin to doubt his love for them, although everything he does - he does precisely because he loves them. And I'm sure he knew about this outcome from the beginning, but he's willing to sacrifice even his image of a father figure in their eyes, if only they'd be safe in the end.

Hello my wonderful, fellow Adarling! I’m here to distract you from the terrible reality of our world.
I have begun to read your enthralling Awake, Arise! fanfic (forgive my slowness, 59 chapters I would have consumed in a day in my teens, now I have… adult responsibilities 🫠) and I have a question.
How did you come up with the names for Adar’s Uruk children?
(Apologies if this has been asked or you’ve addressed this before!)
Sending my unhinged love from across the pond!
Awww, thank you so much for this question, and EEK YAY thank you for diving in and reading Awake, Arise!! I'm so proud of that fic!
So I wish I had a really high-brow answer for this, but the honest to God truth is: i smashed consonants together 😅 Lots of z's and g's and k's. Really i just tried to make them sound guttural and real. I used canon names (Azog, Bolg, Snaga, Ugluk, Magrot, Lurka, etc) as a guide.
Most of them came quite quickly, though when I was stuck i was STUCK. (Especially when I get to a later chapter and he is listing a bunch of names of the dead. That was EXCRUCIATING. But not as excruciating as the fact that Adar named all of his children over the years and never forgot a single one of those names 😭😭😭)
I will say that "Mazul" was the one i did invent based on an actual elvish word, "macil," which means sword, and is derived from the Quenya root "mak," which is to cut or hew with a sharp edge. So the essence of Mazul's Uruk name in Adar's mind is "sharp".
