What are your thoughts about Catholicism? Very fond of your writings and musings about Christianity. Also, I hope your friend and their family is alright.

Yayyyy, I got an ask! I love talking about Christianity and I am very glad to hear that you like them. I unfortunately have not heard from my friend since Wednesday (which is not weird, so not worried yet). I will either see her this coming Wednesday, or I will at the very least see some people who can inform me so fingers crossed and still praying.

To your question: (this is roughly but poorly organized so sorry)

Firstly, Catholics are Christians. It's sad that this is such spicy thing to say, but it is. Catholics will be alongside Protestants and Orthodoxes at the resurrection should just... chill out everyone. They have not anathematized the gospel or whatever. The gospel is that despite what it looks like, Jesus is King and has come to save humanity by dying for our sins and rising from the dead so that you can be free from the grip of sin and death. No self-respecting catholic would deny that. And so no self-respecting catholic should be called non-christian.

Secondly, I'd like to just start with something i noticed that is kinda funny to me. Whenever I learn about some disagreement in church history between Catholics and some other group, I tend to side with the Catholics for aesthetic reasons and the Others for moral reasons. So like with the Iconoclasm. The Eastern Church was like "Icons are idolatry; let's destroy them!!" And Rome was like "Uhhh... no. Don't destroy the beautiful art work." So on that base issue I agree with Rome: iconoclasm is bad and art is beautiful. But there's also a deeper issue of whether the Pope has the authority or whether the other church has the right to mind their own business and with that I side with the East.

Similarly with the Catholics and Puritans in the 17th Century (which is slowly becoming my new favorite time period for literature reasons). I side with the Catholic cause like, yeah, liturgy is awesome, art is beautiful, theatre and festivals are fun (who cares if they're pagan!!), women are great (that's more of a Catholic poet thing but wtv). But on the Puritan side I'm like, yeah... there is a lot of greed and corruption and stuff in there too so...

That said: both Catholic (Cavelier) and Puritan poets during this time were freaking awesome. Is that relevant?? Idk. It's my post i do what i want lol.

But as you can see, my thoughts are always being conflicted: on one hand, Catholics make great points, on another there are also many bad points.

Thirdly, as is no surprise to anyone here, I (despite growing up and still being a devout protestant) am a lover of Catholic philosophy. Some points i really love include:

High Church: The Beauty. The Tradition. The Liturgy. Read anything any catholic has ever said about the Eucharist. It's just *chefs kiss*

The Deuterocanon. LUTHER!? WHAT THE HECK BRO! Okay so I understand why the deuterocanon is not considered canonical by Protestants. And I agree. It isn't in the Tanakh, it isn't canon. But like... can't we put them in an appendix or something??? I'm 17 years old and have never read Judith or Jesus son of Sirach or Baruch or Enoch or the Maccabees or- you get the point. Catholics have such an advantage in that these books are part of their scriptures. Also, to any protestants: no. Having a different canon doesn't make them heretics. They have a different doctrine than us, but they have the same theology. Same goes for the Orthodox churches.

I agree with the Catholic exegesis that when Jesus said "On this rock I will build my church" he was talking about Peter. Peter was most definitely the leader of the early church and to deny at least that fact is pretty foolish (Paul did a lot of missionary work, and Jacob/James was the leader of the Jerusalem Church, but I would assert that Peter was overall the leader who did a lot to bridge together Pauline and Jacobine Philosophy).

Exorcism. Demonology (I don't like this word but i don't know what else to say) is something not really talked about in Western Protestantism despite the fact that it was very important to Jesus. I don't know if the Catholic Church's official teaching on demons is like mine (I put a lot of emphasis on how demons are the "powers and authorities", as Paul says, energizing oppressive political bodies) but I do know that they put attention into exorcism and as I know a girl whose mom was possessed, I thank them for that. Demons are just not talked about enough over here which leads into the problem C.S. Lewis mentioned: either Christians are obsessed with them, or they don't think about them at all.

Sacramentology. Great. Splendid. Do I agree with them all? No, but that doesn't matter cause they're cool. I love transubstantiation and how Thomas Aquinas used Aristotle's philosophy to explain it. Freaking awesome.

That leads into the next point: Scholasticism. I like Catholicism lack of fear with engaging with philosophy and science to prove/defend the religion, like using Aristotle to explain transubstantiation. They have historically wanted to know everything about everything. I think that's great. I am a big fan of scholasticism.

Saints. No comment. I wrote about this before. I am fully convinced. Also Mary is Mother <3

Catholicism teaches that it is the church's job to make Christianity visible to the world. And as such, no other denomination (or at the very least, few others) has improved the world through hospitals and universities and art and music and literally laying the groundwork for modern science (!!!) like the Catholic Church. Militant haters may accuse you of being anti science. But don't worry. I know the truth. They are also the largest charitable organization in the world both now and historically.

Concupiscence: It is not a sin to desire to sin. Thank you Catholicism for this. Just... thank you. This should not be a controversial statement and yet!

Feast Days: Everyday is a holiday if you're catholic lol

Some points I am confused by

Infant Baptism: So... I do believe in infant baptism. I do not believe that baptism washes away original sin. I believe that it's about covenant.

Purgatory: I am... undecided. My thoughts on what exactly happens when you die is always in flux because the bible isn't as clear as you might think (for example, over the summer i stopped believing in heaven. I did believe in the future resurrection of the dead. But i thought in between you were just... dead). At the moment I do believe that the saved go to "be with Christ" after death and the unsaved just die until all are resurrected at the end of the age. As such, my beliefs don't really require a belief in purgatory. After the resurrection all people will be allowed to align with New Jerusalem or to go into The Valley of Hinnom so there's really no point in purgatory then? I view the earth right now as a kind of purgatory I suppose. That said, it can't hurt to pray for those in purgatory so *shrugs* Pray away.

The idea that the church can forgive sins. And I want to be very clear what I mean by this. When I hear "The church can forgive sins" i think, yes. Obviously. Jesus says to forgive others and that those who refuse forgiveness will not be forgiven. Of course the church can forgive sins. I forgive my sister when she sins against me, how is that that different? That said, I've heard protestants mention this "The church can forgive sins" idea as if it was something different from what I've just said which makes me think I don't understand it.

Non Sola Fide. Okay. So.... my thoughts on this are complicated and I personally think Catholics and Protestants have more common ground on this than is thought. It's important that we don't fall into caricatures. I would assert that Catholics do believe in faith alone - at least in the way that a Protestant would define fatih. Faith is not just belief, but is a combination of that with works. If I claim to believe in Jesus but never participate in the church, I don't actually have faith. So I think this is really just semantics between the two. The issue is how you define faith.

Bible vs Church: This is complicated. The bible wasn't written by an assembly but majorilly by individuals who were inspired by God, starting with Moses and the Torah. Then a later assembly of Jews looked at other writings from their history and agreed (by the help of the Spirit and the guidance of the Torah) that these too were divinely inspired. This community that came around these texts then began to debate and discuss which texts were divinely inspired and which weren't. This carried over into the Jesus Movement where followers of Jesus were also debating these same texts, as well as new texts written by the Apostles. One of the criteria for these new texts was how they related to the older texts (i.e. no antisemitism etc). Eventually different assemblies decided on different texts but for the most part are the same. This is all well known but my point here is this: the Modern Bible was assembled the Early Church, which was a community centered around the teachings of Jesus, gathered together by the apostles. These teachings were themselves based off of an earlier group of texts assembled by a group of people who had come across texts written by mostly individuals inspired by the Spirit and the Torah. So did the bible make the church or did the church make the bible? Both. Neither. Both again. It's too complex of a history for such an easy answer. I fall in the "the bible has equal to or greater than authority than the church has."

Mary: So... I believe that Jesus' siblings were younger siblings by Mary and Joseph. If you don't, that's fine, just don't step on my throat for it. I've heard that they could be adopted, which i'd accept, or cousins, which I'd accept. What I will not accept is older siblings by Joseph. This is not possible because of birthright stuff. They would inherit the Davidic throne instead of Jesus basically. That said God loves the youngest born so *shrugs*. I also have problems with the immaculate conception. No. Just... no. There's no point to me. I think it's mental gymnastics. That said, i have problems with Original Sin period so *shrugs*. That said there is this really good article by a Catholic mutual of mine on original sin that i really like and has (possibly) convinced me so check it out. Then the assumption... uh... idk or really care for that matter. Peter was crucified upside down. Paul was beheaded. Mary was assumed. One of these is not like the other but *shrugs* sure. I have no reason to believe it, but i also have no reason not to believe it.

And finally things I don't like:

Authority over Interpreting Scripture. This is one of the things that bars me from conversion. I believe in a great importance of the individual reading and interpretation of scripture. I think the individual should look into Church history and historical traditions, philosophies, and such, but I think the individual should, nonetheless, come to conclusions on their own and wrestle with the scriptures. I'm not saying this doesn't happen in catholicism, but I am saying that I think the way I think of scriptural reading is discouraged. I don't like the idea that if I interpret Ezekiel differently (that he's not talking about Mary's womb as a gate that only Yahweh passes thru) I suddenly can't be Catholic. My interpretation is just different.

chloe sevigny is more me than i thought…i used to want to be approachable so bad, especially during my desperate for friends era in year 10. i knew i had an rbf and my heavy eyebrows were contributing factors to that, so i scraped at them all the time until they were like lines, and even over plucked so bad cause then one side would be straight and the other curved and 1/2 the original length lmfao. all that just so i could lose the rbf and look more approachable. i also would train my resting face, falling into a soft smile and raising my eyebrows all the time. idc abt being weird or anything, weird has lost its meaning nowadays. if u want friends u just gotta be pretty enough for ppl to want to talk to u

A Bucket of Blood (summary and review)

A creature is a creature or an artist. (SPOILERS)

We start out in a cafe for artists and beatniks, an obnoxious poet spouting out words, he's an asshole and that's made fairly clear fairly quickly. Our main character is a busser who idolizes these artists our asshole poet included. (There's also a fed but wtv he's sort just there for now.)

Walter (busser) is clearly "different" a little awkward, a little off, maybe autistic. He's the butt of the joke and an easy target for the poet and his boss. One coworker (Carla) looks after him. He aspires to be an artist.

He goes home in hopes of inspiration. Is bombarded by a nosey landlady and starts on dinner. He's sculpting and the sculpture isn't quite right, he gets frustrated, his dinner boils over and a cat is trapped in his wall.

In an attempt to free the cat he unintentionally kills it. In some sort of grief he sculpts the cat. He brings it early to work, and while people don't really believe he made it they tell him its good. They still talk down to him and aren't very kind or patient. His boss agrees to display it.

Asshole poet (Maxwell) takes the chance to give a monologue about Walter's art and now everyone LOVES Walter. Walter gets sent home. Before he can go home he gets VERY aggressively hit on by a regular. She refuses to let Walter leave empty handed and gives him DRUGS! WHILE A FED WAS WATCHING!

Fed follows Walter home and (accidentally) pays for it. (ALSO the fed licks up a little bit of HEROIN.) Nosy ass landlady can't mind her business. At all. And after all the cat business Walter has been affirmed in his sculpting skills and, well, sculpts a fed.

Boss man (Leonard) breaks the cat and finds out its got fur...they put out a missing persons notice on the fed. Leonard allows Walter to sit with customers and is acting strangely nice to Walter. He's told that the cat sculpture sold for quite a bit of money and is now antagonizing Walter about the next thing he'll sculpt. And when Walter says he sculpted a fed, Leonard gets nervous.

The cat didn't actually sell and now some dude is actually trying to buy it while Leonard is trying to call the cops to report his suspicion about Walter's art. Rich guy had enough money to convince Leonard to not snitch on Walter.

Carla is going to see Walter's art and Leonard gets scared and comes with her. Leonard nearly passes out at the sight of the sculpture. He says Walter can't display it out of panic and Carla says he should build up a collection and Leonard agrees thinking that it'd take YEARS for Walter to sculpt enough to display. He says he should do free form and not do realism since Walter's realism is so grim. Leonard gives Walter 50 bucks and sorta fires him.

Police start kicking around the cafe. Walter comes in in some artist get-up. And starts behaving a little...shitty. Maxwell decides to hang out with Walter and some woman who think she's all that comes and sits there and is shitty to Walter. She brags about being a model and asks Walter to "do her". She gets shittier with him and he says he doesn't like her and she starts bumming the mood.

Walter follows her home (yikes) so he can sculpt her. She agrees as long as he pays her fee. Walter puts her up in a chair and says he'll pose her. He has her naked except a scarf.

Walter wants to show Maxwell what he sculpted last night and everyone loves it again. Maxwell decides to host a party at the cafe for Walter. Leonard warns against getting drunk essentially telling Walter he knows how he sculpts.

At the end of his party Walter is stumbling home drunk realizing he's gotta sculpt again if he wants the attention and starts to look for a new "model". The next morning he brings by a sculpted head separate from the body, a news boy in the background says there's been a murder at the furniture factory.

Leonard shrinks away from the head and semi-confronts Walter. Walter however is too literal and does not realize this is what is happening. He does not know Leonard knows. Leonard says never mind all that let's do your show as soon as possible.

Walter asks Carla to walk with him to the show because he's got something to tell her. He asks her to marry him. She turns him down. Walter gets REALLY upset and asks to sculpt her.

During the show, Carla touches a sculpture and notices it has flesh and bone and fingernails, a person is buried beneath the clay. She tries to leave and Walter intercepts her. She tells him there's a body in the statue and he says he put it there. He says he'll do the same for her. She runs and he chases her.

The clay is getting a little too warm and people start to notice. Everyone knows now. People chase him chasing Carla and call the police. Walter starts hearing the voices of the people he killed.

Carla is no longer being chased but Walter still is. Walter ends up back at home and thinks maybe he should sculpt himself. They find him hanging in his apartment. The end.

Okay so, I have watched this multiple times. Maybe about 3. It's black and white, free on youtube and about an hour long. It is not very scary despite the topic being dark. There is very little gore, and it being in black and white makes that easier for some.

I think Carla is probably the only genuinely good person in the movie. Leonard is a coward too easily persuaded by money. Walter was bullied and desperate for attention but that is not how you get attention.

I think having the feds investigate drugs as a side plot is funny because it only acts as a way to make the police present and the suspense (I imagine this would be suspenseful in the 50s) greater.

Personally, the idea is interesting, I could not have predicted most of this and that is the reason I come back to it occasionally. Its not particularly good or entertaining but it is great background noise if you've watched it before.

Not bad but not great I guess is all I've got to say. Fairly middle of the road. 2 or 3 stars out of 5 sort of movie. No strong opinions but don't mind seeing it again.

Only hanahaki I ever read, only one I probs ever will. Love the way suffocatingspring writes but their depiction of deku is still a bit too fragile for my liking but wtvs I'm not complaining when they're doing all the work. Anyways, solid fic and its nice and slow burn but not really and steamy and so so angsty and yeah.

Anyways, I really liked this. I thought it was pretty funny, good banter, top baku, flustered mess deku so ticks pretty much all my boxes. Definitely made one of my miserable nights less miserable.

OOOkay so I have some things to say about this one. I wish I could remember more of it so I could give you more reason to read it but honestly I couldn't even tell myself why I liked it so much. I've got a personal google doc which my only comment for this fic when I read it was "I just creamed" so if thats anything to go by...

I ditched this fic in the middle because bakugou got all pussy and I hate when he pulls that shit so I couldn't read on, but then I picked it back up in the future and bakuno became bakuhoe and fucked the brains out of izuku so I let it slide. All I really remember was them having hot phone sex, maddening sexual tension, funny banter and a good underlying plot too. So read it, maybe?

Let me just establish one thing: I fucking hate the single dad trope. Now let me re-establish one thing: I fucking hated the single dad trope, until I read this fic. I know its a good one when I genuinely laugh out loud and boy did this fic have me cackling. Bakugou was nice, cocky and confident and knew how to get his sweet little deku flustered like it was his goddamn job. Hot. Ultimately cute fic: pretty good banter and characterisation!

like. holy shit. this fic is going to be so, like, layered. i’m so glad that i’m waiting until it’s completed before posting bc holy fuck i’m gonna do such a good job editing and adding in the foreshadowing. fuck. i need this shit to be good and have nice cool very-obvious-not-obbvious foreshadowing and flashbacks and! i need everything to be tied together nicely! preferably in a neat little bow.

also i didn’t mean for this to happen but ngl it was a little inevitable: ily!tubbo is a god, yeah? i think he’s just what kismet!tubbo would’ve acted like if he and drista ran away like she planned to. like obvious circumstances are very different and the au’s aren’t even related (although i am wondering if i shud make a subtle “in a different life” parallel in this wip but idk yet) but. yeah. kismet!tubbo and ily!tubbo r two sides of the same coin. maybe i’ll post parallels or analyses on them once it’s all published. dunno

also i still don’t actually know the title for the wip. like in the beginning the emotion of love was supposed to be a huge theme and it still is but it’s overpowered by fucking god and humanity themes which i’m not upset by but i need to figure out a way to make the title more fitting. like i can’t just have it be “i love you” that feels boring. i need to brainstorm.

also i can’t remember if i’ve mentioned this i accidentally gave kismetdrista and ilytubbo similar appearances but i think it’s cause tubbo has horns and i gave him long wavy hair. they’re probably differentiable when coloured. they have pretty different colour schemes

i had a good day today and the past few days but there is so many deadlines i have to meet its fuckin me up i’m nervous that someone will bother me when i’m stressed and ill start tellin at them in class but all in all i’ve been having a great time in november which is. unusual. i got boba and pizza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a very unofficial Weird Sisters timeline: early beginnings at hogwarts

orsino, donaghan, heathcoate, kirley, and myron were all in the same year at hogwarts. sino, donnie and heath were gryffindors. kirley and myron were hufflepuffs.

aside: kirley and myron have been BFFs since day one. they tell each other everything and have each other’s back. myron always lets kirley copy his charms homework (which myron actually copied off of someone else but wtv), kirley was there for myron when his parents were divorcing, myron is there for kirley when he’s going through his troy bolton sports vs music crisis, etc etc.

anyway, so it’s the very beginning of sixth year and orsino (who’s kind of the leader of the group) is the one who has the idea of forming a band (a fact that he will always use in arguments l o l). ok so at the very beginning, the band consists of orsino at the durms, heathcoate as singer and guitar, and donaghan as bassist and backup vocals. they sing songs that heath wrote bc he’s the poet of the group. (he likes writing passionate love songs about the girls he likes.)

they practice in the gryffindor common room (prefect bill weasley has to politely tell them to be quiet v often) and it’s great and all but orsino feels like there’s something missing. that extra oomph.

it’s a thursday night and orsino is making out with glenda chittock in the quidditch locker room. when suddenly he hears it. it’s the voice of an angel. ORSINO HAS FOUND THE MISSING LINK.

he runs to the showers where the sound is coming from and a very naked and very stoned myron wagtail is belting out bohemian rhapsody. (kirley, who’s on the quidditch team, told myron that the showers in the locker room have warm water. #quidditchprivileges)

long story short, orsino begs myron to join the band. myron says that he and kirley are a combo package and orsino is just like ???? kirley mccormack wat???? quidditch star kiley mccormack??? in his band??? 

but then he hears myron and kirley jam out together and they are AMAZING and he immediately agrees to let both of them join the band.

woohooo so now the band is: orsino thruston (fearless leader, think oliver wood but for music, drums), heathcoate barbary (guitar 1, song writer, resident poet), donaghan tremlett (bassist, prefect, 80 yr old trapped in the body of a 16 yr old, “guys it’s 10pm, we should really go to bed now... I have a big test tomorrow”), kirley mccormack (quidditch superstar, guitar 2), myron wagtail (secret weapon, voice of an angel, baby face, weed supplier)

obviously the transition from trio to quintet is not a smooth one. heath complains a lot because why do they need two guitarists????? and also why is myron literally the dumbest person on the planet??? 

(donnie doesn’t care. tbh he’d rather be studying for the big transfigurations test instead of playing music but orsino always manages to convince him)

so ya basically 6th year is when the boys start playing music together and eventually become m8s. they’ve all got their own problems to deal with but band practice is always the highlight of the week (yes even for donnie bc even tho he says he would rather be reading up on recent trends in herbology research, he actually likes hanging out with lads!!!)

right before summer starts, orsino decides they need a band manager bc all real bands have manager. through a weird twist of events, sino manages to convince heath that his sister, katy barbary, should be their manager. (sino really just wants an excuse to spend time with katy lol) (jokes on u bud because katy takes manager position very srsly)

anyway through a lot of hard work (mostly katy doing all the hustling tbh) the boys somehow land a deal with a recording company and they release their first single over the summer.

the single becomes an instant hit.

going back to school in the fall is going to be very different.
