hello! i'm back with some actual changes to the site now!

i apologize if the last website update blog was like...

ALMOST 1 MONTH???

damn. well, i got some changes to show yall anyway sooo lets start!

last time i discussed my website, i told yall that i will remake the whole thing over, and THAT, is going to be my main focus.

so i moved the old files to a new folder called /legacy and made a new html file and css file.

i then thought of how im going to go about organizing this thing. i thought about it for an absurdly long time, and then i had an idea.

what if we organized it as such where the style of an html element can be changed just by using the "class" attribute?

its hard to explain so ill just show you what im talking about: (if you dont want to read this part just scroll down until you see the word SKIP HERE!)

ill give you a div element:

but i want to change how it looks, since its just bland text on the preview shown.

that's where these classes come in!

these classes are basically just there to change how any html's look! (with the help of the class attribute)

turning the div into a black rectangle with a shadow

turning the div into a white rectangle with shadow

turning a div into a white rectangle (no shadow needed (although it looks like the rectangle isnt there anymore, but trust me, it still does)

and more! you can do a whole lot with these combinations, and theres even more classes i havent told you yet, like the button and flex classes, but to put it simply, button adds a transition where the rectangle changes color from white to black and and animation that makes the rectangle slightly go up and flex is to arrange the rectangles in rows and columns.

anyway back to the website...

this was the breakthrough idea that made recreating the website SO MUCH EASIER.

aaand after only 10 days, i finally finished!

i will now explain the changes i have made with the website (compared to my website before i recreated it)! it should be obvious but i will do it anyway.

- i added a github button!

this button serves two purposes:

its a button to redirect you to the github repository of the website!

its to get the /section buttons to actually look like they are centered. the main problem of the old navbar was that it did not look centered AT ALL, so i couldnt really center the thing without looking off and weird...

and now, with the github button, everything looks decent!

- changed the footer to look like a simple (rounded) rectangle at the bottom of the page.

this was to "solve" the problem which i had with the footer thingy which was that:

if i wanted the footer to fix on the bottom of the textbox,

but when i zoom out theres so much visibe dead space at the bottom.

and another thing, if i want the footer to stay at the bottom of the screen, it doesnt look like theres dead space, buttttt

the damn footer takes up 10% of the total screen space

so i had an idea...

what if we just contain it in a small rectangle instead of looking like the navbar?

it clearly does not solve the dead space at the bottom problem, but atleast it looks nicer than before and it doesnt look like the navbar anymore :D

- I FINALLY FINISHED THE SLOOSHI PHOTO IN THE SIDE OF THE TEXTBOX AFTER LIKE 1 MONTH

based on @pagerorgy's sc36.net (and by based i mean i downloaded the html file of the website and edited it), this WAS a temporary home while i was remaking it, but now its just a place where you can see EVERYTHING the site has to offer (in only 1 table)!

i apologize of the fact that this blog is so long, so heres a tl;dr

i remade the website with a convenient way to change the look of an element

- shallan and adolin splitting up ?? tbh I know a lot of us were like... how are they gonna get back to the tower in time for the contest so will they just be sidelined which ik was cleared up in the preview chapters, but now it def feels like shallan is taking a lead role w renarin and rlain but adolin will not be super important in this book. I was kind of hoping that we'd see more of the arc between him and maya but I think that's unlikely if he's not Paired Off with anyone. that might be a good sign for his survival though seeing as he's far too beloved to sideline for most of the book and then kill off. hopefully.

- sigzil AND venli mentioned in the description?? in the same sentence?? what world have I entered into?? I'm glad branderson isn't sidelining the listeners entirely but I'm very confused as to why these two were chosen to pair off together. I've not read sunlit man but I know in it allegedly sig talks about making a huge mistake and I don't think that bodes well for him if he's a major character in this book. tbh I feel like he's one of those characters who's minor enough that he can develop into a lot of things so I'm concerned. also interesting that they're fighting on the shattered plains. could def b a bit of a thematic callback to twok. hopefully we get to see a bit of leshwi if there's gonna be a listeners focus here aswell?

- don't have much to say about the in-laws hangout that is shallan, renarin and rlain other than I am excited for it. ive never super understood why everyone loves renarin so much but I'm hoping we'll see him more in this book (as I believe a wob confirmed?) so I can finally join the renarin fan club. the ba-ado-mishram/recreance mystery being solved is one thing I'm looking forward to in this book too.

- I'm absolutely fascinated by the mental image of kaladin not only giving szeth, the most fucked up mortal we know, therapy, but also giving therapy to ishar, the most fucked up immortal we know. like. he only just invented it this feels a bit ambitious. however the idea of those three sitting in a circle group therapy session wise makes me giggle.

- speaking of I'm so excited for the shinovar roadtrip!! it's like the only part of this book we've had advance warning about so I've had time to get hyped over it. kaladin and szeth feels like a dangerous combo but I hope they come out of this not only alive but also friends. it would make my year brando, please.

- we've had too many mentions of the spiritual realm already for it not to play a big role in this book. interesting that both shallan & co and the bondsmiths seem interested in it, albeit for separate reasons. I presume this means the shallan arc will happen before the contest arc or vice versa bc otherwise it feels very convenient that everyone just remembered this third realm exists. I have a super strong gut instinct that someone is gonna try to use the spiritual realm to change the past and get refuted in a very 'journey before destination' kind of way. no evidence for this just pure vibes. other than that we alr know that ba ado mishram is trapped there from the preview chapters so we'll def be going there atleast once. I find it very funny that this wasn't theorised abt at all bc we all just assumed it was inaccessible but why would brandon not throw a spanner in the works

- kind of forgot where we left off with jasnah except she killed a guy and is dating an immortal. hope she's slaying it and continues to slay it. excited to see her in this book now that I've decided I actually like her

- tbh, I feel like the part of the book I'm least interested in is the contest. like. it will be very cool and I have no doubt that brando will pull it off but there's only so many ways that can go and many many possibilities for everything else that I'm 👀👀

- in other news, I've calculated that if I read 2.72 chapters every day from now until december 6th, I will finish rhythm of war in time for kowt. that feels... unachievable, but we're gonna try!

it concerns me that I have this much to say over three paragraphs of text. im worried that when the actual book comes out I'll have to put it down at the end of every page to spend 15 mins making a tumblr post. however in the meantime if yall have thoughts on my thoughts or other takes I would v v much love to hear them bc I love talking about the cosmere !

I'll have more 2 say later but I'm literally VIBRATING at work over the wind and truth description. the description. lord help me when the actual book begins to drop

Welcome to KQ Central, the official  homepage of KQ Magazine.  KQ Central is currently run only by me, Robert  Wayne.  But it hasn't always been the product of one person, and it hasn't  always been the way it is today.  KQ Central started out as different visions  by two different people.

The Origin  of KQ Central: Soon after the release of "No Bones About It", I was contacted  by the author of "Rebellion", Alex Ahlund.  After a couple of days of talking  on ICQ, Alex inquired if I had ever considered developing a KQ fan site.    We exchanged ideas, and talked about how we invisioned a KQ Site.

My Vision:  My idea was not so much a site as it was a newsletter.  I once asked Kyle  if he considered releasing KQ in the stores so that people not on the net would  be able to play it.  He replied that all that would go into the packaging  and distributing would jack the price up to thirty-some dollars.  But then  a thought occured to me; how would people get new levels and news if they aren't  online?  Well, if Kyle had decided to release it in stores, I could  make a bi-monthly fanzine and send it to people along with a 3.5 floppy containing  all the new levels released that previous two months.  Of course it would  cost a small fee to pay for the disks and shipping, but that's about it.

Alex's Vision  as told to me: Create a website where KQ Authors could gather together  and exhange ideas, and then after developing a level, could sell it to the public  through the site.  Of course, the operator of the site would get his cut...

Well, KQ would not end up retail  (not yet atleast,) so my idea was pretty much dead.  Alex asked if I would  consider creating a site together.  It was intriguing, but I didn't quite  like the idea of creating a site simply as a way to make money off of other  people's levels.  Players already paid to buy KQ, would should they pay  for levels?  So, we combined ideas; A newsletter was created that was send  via E-Mail rather than Snail-Mail, that people would pay a small price for.    This newsletter was called KQ Magazine.

A free preview issue was released  in June '98, and Alex set up an account with Pilotgear to release two issues  for the low price of $5.  We originally wanted to sell each issue for $2  each, but Pilotgear wouldn't allow us to offer a price that low ($5 was the  minimum.)  Well, the July/August issue was released to buyers, and from  what I was told by Alex, there was little public interest.  I'm not sure  how many since Alex handled all the book-keeping.

A week or two later, Alex announced  that after Issue 2 was released, he will be leaving KQ Central to move onto  creating his own game.  This news  became the first in the newly redesigned KQ Central.  With Alex no longer  involved in KQ Central, I was able to make it the way I think it should be.    A level database, and regularly updated news; no longer will people have to  wait two months for information.  And best of all, 100% Free.

And that's the story of how KQ  Central had evolved from a small vision it two people's minds, into an excellent  source for news and information in the world of KQ, which at the time or writing,  has generated 4799 hits.

But wait... there's more! What  happened to Issue 2?  Where is Alex now?  Where have all the new levels  gone?

Well, the first two questions I  can answer...  The third is undetermained.

Issue 2 was never created and  will probably not be.  In November  of '98, I became very persistant as to getting the second issue out.  We  were already behind schedule, I had not received a penny from Pilotgear, nor  had they sent us a list of all the people who bought KQM.  I was pretty  much contacting Alex every so many days (on ICQ,) who would only reply saying  he had not hear anything from Pilotgear.  It has now been about three months,  and Alex has yet to get the information or the money to me.

From this moment on, I am going  the way of Pilate, and washing my hands of the whole deal.  I feel bad  about everyone who put faith in us, and I even mad at myself for being suckered  into the whole thing.  I will not be working on Issue 2, and I have no  intention on persuing this matter any further.  As far as I am concerned,  Alex can keep my half of the money.  For those of you who did pay for KQM,  and was ripped off just like I was, here is what I suggest you do:

E-Mail or ICQ Alex, and tell him  that you want a refund of one half of the money for your purchase.  Tell  him to get on Pilotgear's back about sending him the money, and then he can  take the money that was originally going to be my half, and refund it to you  guys.  I feel bad about this, but it's all I can do now since Alex was  the one who handled the accounts.

I don't really know what to put  here, so here's the basics: I've been programming since around Feb. 1997, and  have started my own software company, Smog Moon© Software.  A friend  of mine eventually convinced me to make a level for KQ ("No Bones About it")  and I had a lot of fun doing it.  I've always been interested in (Print)  Journalism and I thought a newsletter for KQ would be fun.  Alex was interested  in making a KQ Site, so I decided, sure, why not.

5 Free Productivity Tools

So if you're just starting out doing freelance work and don't have a system yet, or you have a system and it doesn't work very well for you, take a look at these 5 tools that will help you be more productive, save time and manage your projects more easily.

Also for the record, I'm not getting sponsored by anyone to share these tools, this is purely to help you be more productive, and also to market myself by providing helpful information to you. =) (Now that’s what I call being transparent!)

I will be covering just the gist of what these tools are, and some of the things I really enjoyed about them, but don't just take my word for it, do some more digging for yourselves and play around with them to see if they suite you and your needs.

I've listed my favorite ones last so stick around if you want to see the best ones. Atleast in my opinion, you may find you have a better use for some, more than others.

MightyText

This first productivity tool syncs your smart phone messages and app notifications to your desktop. You can even set your device on the charger in another room and if you get a call, text message or an app notification (optional), you will see them pop up in the corner of your desktop screen. That way you're not playing with your phone, but are updated as needed and can choose to leave it for later, or respond immediately from you computer and get back to work!

Now you may have noticed, if you are a Windows 10 user, that the new OS has phone integration as well, so you can receive text messages to your computer and respond. That's all fine and well, however if you don't respond within the dialog box or the Action Center, you can't get back to your conversations except by looking at your phone. That's where MightyText continues to be helpful. I leave it run in minimized form until I need it, and it allows you to use the windows notifications box in place of their own.

There are a few pitfalls with it, but if you are so inclined, you can sign up for the premium version and that takes care of those issues. The main issue I've had is not having all of my contacts synced so I can't make quick new messages from my laptop. I have to first look up the contact on my phone or in Outlook to confirm the correct number to the corresponding contact, but as I mentioned before the premium version takes care of that problem because it allows for multiple contact platforms to be synced.

Toggl

What I will be discussing is the free version of Toggl, not the premium. The free version offers you the basics and will get the job done, but there's more for those who want to get all they can out of it, including Toggl business that I have not researched myself.

I use Toggl's desktop app on Windows 10 and the online reporting tools to keep track of my weekly and hourly work completion. I also use the Toggl Android app, to keep track of tasks that I do outside of the office, like reading emails while waiting for my wife in the car or working from somewhere that my laptop isn't handy. This helps me stay focused and know where I need to improve if I'm slacking off. I only track my working hours, but you can track whatever you choose. In the image below you can see an example of the desktop app.

As you can see you can add tags to your entries by clicking on the entry and opening the side panel. You can also edit your entries and open up the reports page on the website where you can do a lot more, like research how long you spend on a weekly basis reading your emails or doing social media marketing. You can see an example of this in the image below.

Lastly, I would like to add that it will send you a weekly report in your email showing you where and for how long you worked on certain entries throughout the week. It's a very helpful tool, especially if you're charging by the hour for work for different clients or with a team of colleagues.

The last few images I will show you are of the mobile app, it's very helpful on the go, although sometimes it has sync errors unfortunately.

Invision App

This tool is more aimed at creatives and designers. It is an online tool that one can use to create prototypes and moodboards. It also has some other features that you can play with for yourself, I'm still learning it as I'm writing about it, but the more I use it, the more helpful I find it. If you want to go even further there is a premium service you can look into as well.

One of the things I noticed very early in my exploration is the ability to make interactive prototypes. If you have a free account and are logged in open the prototypes tab and click on the pre-made prototype titled "Web App Prototype". You will notice that within each "project" there can be multiple project cards. For this project each one of the cards are a different page to the web app. Now if you click and enter the first one on the left you will see what looks like a social media site. Remember this is just a prototype of the final version of a web app, but if you hover over the profile image on the top right hand side, a drop down will appear, additionally if you click any of the menu items there, you will be redirected to the other cards that match it's description. So you will still have to design elements in Photoshop or another application, but you can see the functionality in the InVision app, before you do a lick of coding. Pretty cool right?

Basically InVision will help get your projects organized in a presentable way to showcase to your clients or your team. On that note, it's very social, and allows for live previews to those you share to. It allows the ability to collaborate with others through comments, something they call "hotspots", where specific elements of a design can basically be highlighted and commented on and the option to designate whether a board is "On Hold", "In Progress" "Needs Review" or if a board layout has been "Approved", which seems like a very useful feature. There is also the ability to view the history of a board if you so choose, and see all the different versions of a design from start to approval.

Let's talk a little bit about InVision "Boards". I use these most frequently of the boards and prototypes options, as I like to use these to get the mood and overall feel of a project together in one area. If you are working as a team this is also a great place to share and save resources for the future, like color schemes, source imagery, typeface selection, written documents and body copy written for your project. There are so many uses for these, but you will find that out as you play with it.

My biggest complaint about the InVision tool is that when you are working with lots of images, like one might when using the moodboards, the load time can be tediously slow. If you use lower res images that should help. Really it's the Internet's fault. Sorry Internet, we still love you!

The last helpful thing about InVision, is the InVision Blog. It always has great articles that are relevant to an aspiring designer that are not just helpful or insightful, but also help you to feel that you aren't alone and that other designers and creatives struggle with the same things you struggle with. Check it out if you have a chance!

Hootsuite

Hootsuite is a social media dashboard. Instead of posting the same article multiple times on different sites, you can link them all together and post from one place. The free version will work well for most users, but if you have a ton of social media accounts or clients you work for, it will be more beneficial to upgrade to the business platform as you are limited to a set amount of accounts that you can link. Here's the plans if you're interested!

You can also check all of your feeds in one place, see your stats, make reports about your posting success and even schedule when you want to make your posts go out. For instance if you want to share a holiday post, but won't be in the office on the day you want it to go out, then just make one early and send it out at the perfect time on the special day, that way you can still enjoy it without feeling guilty about not posting something on such a crucial date for people checking their feeds!

Evernote

I use Evernote everyday, I only wish I had started using it earlier that's why it's my favorite and final tool I wanted to share with you! In fact I'm using it to make this post's content!

I'm using it type out the words to this post in a note within a notebook titled "Virtual Crasis Blog" and I'm collecting images inside of this note as well, that I've screen shot from my browser! (See Below)
