Quick question because I don't remember castle in the sky: is it specified that Lettie gave birth to the kid? Or it could be very well some crazy kinda plot in which this random kid appears in the lives of the three (justiman and Lettie) and now they have to navigate raising a kid while defeating all society expectancies of non biological child/Lettie and Ben are not really together/Justin and Ben are so gay/Lettie wants to be an independent witch/ what the hell is going on? Because god I'd read a magic comedy with this plot I love people who are not on love and who were not supposed to be devoting parents suddenly having to raise a child without getting together in the end (+ Justin of course the poor boy)
Thanks for the question, you're always welcome!!
Unfortunately, it was specified, even a bit too much to describe, that Lettie gave birth to a child. In fact, when we first see her and Ben in chapter fifteen, she's pregnant. Wich actually a bit concerning because CITA happened exactly one year after the first book (as Morgan, Howl and Sophie's son, is born somewhere in the middle of CITA and he's known to be two in HoMW, time difference between wich and HMC is stated to be three years) and Lettie was seventeen in HMC as she's stated to be one year younger that Sophie who is most likely eighteen there. And that is... not the best math possible, actually.
(also that's probably my personal preference but this scene is so "not it" to be lmao, like that's probably because of the smallest amount of development their pairing had, but it's just feels unrealistic or staged for unknown reason, for me at least)
This moment is stated in the end of the book and is just...there. The only fun joke it leads to is Sophie saying "she knew she was bound to be an aunt" wich is, she is.
(Although with Martha wanting ten kinds and Neil and Mari being technically a part of her family it's strangely hilarious she thought she WASN'T bound to be an aunt?)
The child doesn't even have a name, just being called "a girl with no ill effects at all" and, unlike Morgan, born about the same time, doesn't have any other mentions in the series, at all. The reason for her existence is a mystery for me. There's no plot/practical reason except for "they had a child, cool!"/nonneg
AND THE CONCEPT YOU OFFERED IS SO MUCH BETTER!!
This is something really DWJ-like in this absolutely random group of people having to raise a child no one planned would exist. And probably the only way I'd imagine Lettie being a mother or a wife (I should make a separate post about Lettie honestly I love her so much). She didn't want to be there, but that's what happens when you randomly decided to marry a Royal Wizard for a "why not' reason.
And, according to Ukrainian translation of HMC that described Ben and Justin as "inseparable" (in original it just said "great buddies" wich is also funny but not that much😔) you kinda you get Justin complete with Ben. Just like Sophie and Howl, two-in-one exclusive offer!
As I said that's all Hatter sisters do — defeating social expectations.
(Justin and Ben are really gay I guess If you're not random Ingarian citizen you can clearly see it lol)
Also this lines up with my little concept of Justing running from married life (yes he got married in CITA. Don't ask me how, that was... rather odd, especially because he run from the same marriage canonically a couple of weeks before it happened) and just having to stay with Ben because the Kind would have just destroyed him If he'd returned to the palace. And so they have to just... live together even though Lettie is not the part of the club, she just wants to learn witchcraft in peace.
And now there's a child absolutely announced. And no one can explain how. Or why.
Yeah, I would pay to read that. Probably even write myself.
#inbox#ask#I LOVE YOUR CONCEPTS AND VISIONS SM YOU'RE SUCH A GENIUS#/pos srs!!#MORE JUSTIMAN AGENDA DJSD#MORE BEN AND LETTIE AS BESTIES AGENDA!!#howl's moving castle book#hmc book#hmc#howl's moving castle#lettie hatter#ben sullivan#wizard suliman#prince justin#justin of ingary

🧥 be found wearing your muse’s sweater/coat/article of clothing
Nestled on the couch, tail wound about her not unlike a cat, Gan held a book in one hand, a cup of coffee in the other. The door to the apartment opened and as Vehn stepped inside, he suddenly froze, eyes fastened onto the tiny Xaela.
Instead of her usual garb, Gan had opted for one of his sweaters. Mostly due to the fact that she was waiting for laundry to dry. Either way, Vehn’s eyes widened and he stood stock still, taking in the sight of his love.
“Gan...”
“Hm?” Gan glances up and smiles, her tail twitching happily. “Ah, welcome homw dear.”

Holiday to Florida in Dec 2019: Dublin to London Heathrow on Sat 04 Jan 2020
We strode through arrivals at Dublin airport, and as on previous trips it was completely empty. That was great for us, since there were no hold ups, and no stress in getting back on board our flight returning to Heathrow.
Boarding had started by the time we reached Gate 215, so we joined at the back of Group 1. The cabin crew were expecting us, and they welcomed us back with a smile on their faces.
Back into our normal seats, and we were now looking forward to getting homw.
Flight: BA0839 Equip: A319 Sched Depart: 14:25 Actual: 14:15 Sched Arrival: 15:45 Actual: 15:34 Takeoff: 14:36 Landing: 15:26
We pushed back 10 mins early, and the other thing on our minds at this point was scones, cream and jam!
There were some nice views as we crossed the Irish sea, and then on final approach into Heathrow.
We arrived into Gate A23 as normal, and we scooted through baggage reclaim and back to our car at T5 Meet & Greet.

Bookstores are the places I go when I feel life’s burden is too heavy, or when I seem to be lost again. Those piles of books just calm me down. I may not read a particular one; I may just pick up Eliot’s poem, or stare at Hemingway’s portrait. It’s inevitably fluky which genre from which century you will encounter. So what kinds of books one collects become the essential element for my bookstore experience. But I’m also an interior design sort of thing person, the overall environment matters to me as well.
There are dozens of bookstores in Shanghai despite the convenient e-commerce. Those are shelters for people like me, old-fashioned and paper-lover. I didn’t get to hunt down every one of them, but I did visit a lot. Some are my Byzantium, some are just disappointing, like the internet popular — 1984 Bookstore. It’s just small, crowded with very little collections. I’ve selected three my personal favorites as a little legacy for my Shanghai experience.
The Mix Place
This one becomes my personal favorite for quite private reasons. First, I live like 500 meters away from the bookstore, I only need to cross the huge intersection, then I’ll my find my peace.
Second, they used to have a heavy section of English books including literature, philosophy, arts. Now they imported lots of Chinese books though most of them seem to come from Taiwan, to attract more local readers. But amazingly they do have a section of philosophy, including a work collection of Foucault and Nietzsche. I’ll probably never buy them homw, but I’d say philosophy is a necessity.
Overall, their English book collection are quite authentic and huge, especially when you are a literature, design, art person.
Thirdly, they work with different artists and studios, so there is always different installment or show in the bookstore.
They also have a huge collection of magazines and art crafts. The sofas are comfy to sit down, and the view is quite nice. So you can probably run into me anytime of the day 🙂
Oh Confession: Never tried their coffee, because it’s extremely expensive. Starbucks is just next door, you are welcome. Oh unless you are a specialty coffee drinker, what can I say, go to Taiwan? (FYI, Taipei is one of the world’s top coffee cities, along with Vienna, Rome, Melbourne, Havana, and Seattle. Specialty coffee costs less than 2$, in Shanghai probably 7$.)
Address: No. 880, Hengshan Road
大隐书局 DAYIN BOOKMALL
This one is for Chinese culture lovers. As of myself a Chinese, I love my culture, yeah! The name “Dayin” comes from Daoism philosophy, the true hermit resides on the noisy streets, because he has the peace inside of him. The bookstore took the literary meaning out of its name, resides on one of the most expensive streets in Shanghai — Huaihai Middle Road, it provides a delicate peacefulness.
It’s bookstore plus tea room, the decoration is very Zen-like. My favorite part about the store is they do have a complete collection of ancient Chinese literature and philosophy. And they also collect works of the famous Chinese intellectuals in the 20th century, one of the most humiliated yet most brilliant eras in Chinese history. Of course, those are all in Chinese. But recently, they also add up a section of foreign books, mostly literature. I mean, it would be nice to have a cup of tea and sip some Chinese culture there.
Address: No. 1834-1, Huaihai Middle Road
They recently had a new store opened up in one of the crazy department areas, to make the hermit for real. Address: 6th floor, No. 939, Huaihai Road.
ICICLE
They actually started as a clothing brand, aiming at minimalism style and recycling materials. The bookstore is an extension of this lifestyle philosophy, just opened February this year. When I visited there for the first time on a weekend, there were
only 2 or 3 readers, and later it was just me on the fancy tailors’ room sipping coffee. It’s a huge space with art gallery inside the bookstore and a tailor’s workshop in the corner, and their clothing brand and a restaurant on the first floor.
They were featuring a Chinese watercolor painter, whose works embody both traditional Chinese day-to-day life also Western landscape the artist collected in her traveling.
Processed with VSCO with f2 preset
Most of the English books are art related or lifestyle related. I don’t find much of foreign literature collection or my ancient Chinese philosophy. But I would definitely like to spend an afternoon to go through Frida Kahlo’s work in such a beautiful place.
Address: No. 2570, He Chuang Road, Minhang District, Shanghai
(PS: this one is not at city center but within a tolerable metro ride distance)
Those are three of my favorite bookstores in Shanghai, they basically helped me to cope with the transition time between work and school.
Bookstore Bookstores are the places I go when I feel life's burden is too heavy, or when I seem to be lost again.

Regardless of whether you don't cook or heat each day, the best oven mitts are a fundamental piece of your kitchen. Most pots and skillet are produced using materials, for example, hardened steel and aluminum, which are acceptable warmth conductors and, while ideal for cooking, they increment the odds of you consuming yourself. 2018 Mar – Phoenix Hols: Day 10 - Mon 02 Apr 2018 - London Heathrow to Bucharest
I got caught by that dreaded passport machine that doesn't work. By the time I realised I was already captured by it, so had to allow it to fail 3 times before I could get out and try another machine, which of course worked first time. Doh!
We headed up to level 1 and into the Arrivals lounge to get a shower, which was great. Always refreshing, but it's hardly a patch on some of the Asian/Middle Eastern shower suites. The showers also get very hot and there's not enough air circulating to keep them cool.
Once done, we headed back up through the First Wing and in to the CCR, where we sat down to another wonderful breakfast.
Later on I popped out to Starbucks – Vick was desperate for some caffeine.
Flight: BA0886 Equip: A321 Sched Depart: 11:40 Actual: 11:45 Sched Arrival: 17:00 Actual: 17:06 Takeoff: 12:21 Landing: 17:01
The flight to Bucharest left from Gate A1. As normal we were first there and started the Group 1 priority boarding queue. It was a full flight and Vick was challenged over the size of her case. However, when the gate agent realised she was in Club Europe she was happy for her to take her case on board.
The flight pushed back on time, but it seemed to take forever before getting on to the runway. In fact, it was about 40 mins before we took off. The captain, however, was still confident that we would arrive on time, and he was just about right.
We ordered drinks to start with. Vick had a tomato juice and I had my first of four glasses of champers. The CSM wanted to shake my hand – I assume for being a loyal customer. Nice touch.
Lunch was nice enough. It was a prawn starter so Vick didn't have that. It was ok, but it was a bit fishy for me!
Main course was very nice. I had the chicken with pasta and a lobster cream sauce. Vick had the beef.
For afters, we had a passionfruit & hazelnut cheesecake which was fabulous, followed by some brie and chutney.
For a change we arrived in to an actual gate, so we avoided the need for a bus. We arrived in to Gate 6 and we were quickly through passport control and an Uber was ordered.
The Uber took a fair bit longer than on previous trips due to the time – it was Bucharest rush hour, so it took about 45 mins. We got a nice welcome at check in. She even advised us that we could expect something of a surprise from the bar within the 30 mins. Wonder what that will be.
We were upgraded into a king room (we had booked a queen room), but it had the smallest window I've ever seen in a hotel room. Not sure how much of an upgrade it was to be honest.
We had a brief walk out around the town and it's nothing much to write homw about. It's very worn down and typical of what we might expect for an eastern block country. We had a look at the River Danube and found the restaurant and bar area. It's not the sort of place we would come to for a weekend away!
Anyway, once back in the hotel we stopped off at the bar for a drink and a bite to eat which was very pleasant. We had a caesar salad and some truffle fries.
