On tonight’s edition of Bullying Lee Meriwether, the question is: The army bugler said, “This morning I couldn’t find my bugle, so I woke the men up by blowing my _____.”

[giggling a lot, extremely tickled by her crummy artist’s rendering of the event, as she’s been doing every third answer or so this week]

[absolutely no reaction from the audience]

Gene: As Queen Victoria once said, “We do not find it amusing.” I’m speaking for the audience.

Charles: I just wanna say because there’ve been so many inquiries: Lee’s book—hardcover book—of her drawings is coming out for next Christmas.

And it’s called Miss America Can’t Draw.

#lee meriwether is an honorary weird girl. to me.#lee meriwether #charles nelson reilly #match game #I just love it when somebody does a bit that flops with the audience but the person doing it Loves it #and there’s a big difference between doing it for the pure enjoyment and trying to hog camera time #like a lot of Gary burghoff and Maclean Stevenson and bill daily’s bits that aren’t funny #(and gene’s lbr) are extremely attention seeking #they’re not doing it because they think it’s inherently funny. they’re doing it because they want the audience to think it’s funny #imo this is why Richard is the favorite because he tends to strike a good balance of finding routines he enjoys that the audience also likes #or like how Brett Charles and gene are always rating Charles’s jokes on a scale of 1-10 #he can be a ham and take too much time setting up a failing joke but it’s so good-natured and self-aware #and when Richard’s jokes don’t land he repeats them and makes fun of himself #and when Fannie’s jokes don’t land she either ignores it or goes to Brett or Richard for solace in a cute pouty way that’s fun #and half of Betty white’s schtick is that her naughty puns will fly under the radar and take a few seconds to process #but like when annoying dudes’ jokes don’t land… they seem to not even register that they’re not funny because they’re so up their own asses?#I have more to say about this but I’m having trouble articulating it #it’s just a difference to me of who’s there to have fun and win people money and who’s there to show off
