when searching for tips on washing embroidery/xstitch sometimes you will find people who are like "ummm i just make sure i always have clean hands when i sew so i don't have to wash my pieces 😇" & i want you to know those people are idiots. you have oils in your skin that come FROM your skin no matter how clean it is; you are a human being & this is perfectly normal. this is how your body is supposed to work - these freaks who think they don't produce oil aren't cleaner than you, they're just wrong.

i don't personally care if you choose to wash your work when you're done - i think maybe there's something about those oils being invisible at first but sometimes staining the fabric over time, idk you'll have to look it up - & i'm not gonna think you're dirty or gross if you don't; it's your art & your choice, & your body is not gross for being human. i always wash my pieces when i'm done just because it makes me feel better about sending them off to other people (where they're no longer in my control), & also because i live with a chronically ill cat who sneezes on anything & everything i own. i just assume by default that everything in my home has cat snot on it whether i can see it or not.

i have a black plastic witch's cauldron which was previously a halloween decoration that i just fill with warm water & a drop of dish soap. i put my finished pieces in there to soak for 10-20 minutes; at least once you should agitate the water a bit, like a washing machine would, & sometimes you might have to scrub a piece against itself if there's a visible mark you're trying to get out (i use this ancient red tailor's crayon on some darker fabrics that i often have to scrub to erase). dump the water out, put cool water in, dump it out, keep doing that until there are no more suds in the water, or just take the piece out & rinse it if you're lazy. you're not supposed to wring it out, but again, i'm lazy & i don't like carrying sopping fabric through my house. then you gotta lay it on a towel & if it's a larger piece, roll the towel up & twist it to wring it out in THERE, which is apparently okay. then iron the piece from the back so you don't flatten your stitches. after that i pop my piece straight onto a high shelf in my closet to dry, so that the damn cat doesn't have a chance to get any of his germs on it.

anyway nobody asked for my advice or details of my personal embroidery-washing routine, but advice that's like "just don't be dirty in the first place 😇" is literally so unhelpful & infuriating. that's not advice cuz you aren't offering a solution to the problem (aside from acquiring a time machine) & you clearly don't KNOW what the actual answer is anyway, or else you'd know that your hands are never truly clean & you're framing work that might end up revealing all your grimy little sins as it ages. washing your work is a pain but it's not so impossible as to not be worth doing if you want to or need to. cuz sometimes your cat plants a fat booger right in the middle of your dainty little sampler & you need to know how to fix that shit, because not allowing your cat to sit on your lap while you're sewing is clearly NOT an option.

  ꒦꒷꒷꒦ iSA SPEAKS ! okay so i wanted to explain at least the meaning for the members' choices 😭😭 i so badly wanted to give hikari a song from bury me at makeout creek, hikari is actually represented by every mitski song 🫶 anyway, i ended up giving hikari skyless moon because the song sort of represents how hikari feels about his place in dream, especially during his hiatus era where he questioned if his role as a member even mattered (will he ever be happy? idk 🤷‍♂️), ofc i gave seojun a paramore song because 😇!!! the lyrics basically symbolize how he had to grow up quickly, how he constantly bottles things up and it especially references like predebut times where he suddenly felt like he had to force himself to grow up when he joined sm 🙁 sorry #seojunnation

makani's is pretty self explanatory 😭😭 it shows how he toughened himself up on his own accord to avoid getting hurt by others, he shuts them out than acts all high and mighty because he genuinely hates the idea of people abandoning him or simply not caring anymore (abandonment issues are soooo common here) zixin's is basically how he doesn't exactly know to encapsulate his feelings, he often hides his true feelings with mountains of affection but then he absolutely confuses himself because he has no idea how to properly go about it 😓 it could also be interpreted as him trying to tell his partner how he truly feels but he's so sure they'll get confused about it.. minjae's is pretty similar to seojun's where he practically forced himself to grow up while under sm's roof 😕 he absolutely despises confiding in people so he "saves himself" by presenting a front and dealing with his personal feelings in his own time away from the rest of his members

so basically xuwicha is the only one with regular lyrics that are lovely under the surface 😭😭!! that man is absolutely hooked on his lover forever, he might die from the amount of love he's receiving 😓

I forgot to mention it last time but the opening is so catchy!! I also didn't know BossNoeul sang it until I'd already seen the whole show but that knowledge makes it even better :)

Since we're at the second episode, ofc they start us off with a lil recap. I'm happy to see P'Aon again, yay! Also I like the fun background music. Rain is giving inquisitive puppy vibes in this scene and I'm here for it <3 And then P'Aon mentions Phayu and he instantly turns into disgruntled kitten AHHH what a cutie

Loving that weatherperson foreshadowing that Rain's future is about to have some storm-wrought turbulence - I think it's so funny when a character is like "I never wanna hear/see/think/experience X person again" and then one narrative later they take back those words real quick

I'm also a huge fan of the brothers' dynamic! P'Saifah is always down to call his brother a massive simp to his face, but can you blame him when Phayu literally has this besotted look on?

Ok but what happens next is really short but I think quite interesting. Saifah asks Phayu how long he's been single, and there's a long pause where the camera cuts to this look (see below) on Phayu's face. It kind of looks like he's been single for a while, and not exactly by choice - I get the impression he's been hurt in the past or he hasn't found what he's looking for. BUT then it's immediately followed up with Saifah checking in and Phayu saying "I'll tell you when something happens" with a rather gleeful look. He's already expecting Rain to meet his standards and not run away from him!!! I love how happy Saifah looks for his bro too

And then we get Rain channeling some meerkat energy (I know I've said this a thousand times but URGH WHAT A CUTIE). Also Sky's BS-meter firing so high and Rain's voice jumping like 5 octaves has me cackling every time

Actually, this whole section is quite funny - Rain skipping into the middle of the crowd and then immediately getting ready to run when he sees Phayu, and also there's something yellow+blue color-related going on here but idk what it is (it's cool tho!)

Ok Rain really has a colorful vocabulary and Phayu is apparently is NOT here for it. Also are Phayu's lips magnets to you Rain? You did not have to stick your lips out like that when you're just tryna have a conversation about manners

I also find it very interesting that Rain is the one to pull Phayu along, first into the bathroom and then into the actual stall. On one hand I know he just doesn't want to be found out by other people but I do think it's rather telling that Phayu who is clearly much larger than Rain allows himself to be manhandled so easily.

I'm talking about things I only know marginally about here but idk what else to call it so... I've never heard of a person dropping into subspace so friggin fast I mean all Phayu did was breathe on his neck for 0.2 seconds and Rain's goneeee. I was absolutely unprepared the first time I watched this, and even now on my nth rewatch I'm still feeling some type of way

I didn't notice this until someone pointed it out but Phayu does take a second to pull back and check in (peep the surprised eyebrow raise - clearly he didn't expect Rain to be so into it after like 2 seconds, but he's certainly not complaining)

I also didn't notice this before but Rain actually moans here. Very understandable. Also Phayu telling Rain he did a good job? Praise kink activated (Phayu really just awakened things in Rain one after another lmao)

So the first couple of times I watched this I thought that Phayu was being unnecessarily harsh to Rain, but I think now I understand that it was to impart the gravity of the situation. Phayu really just wanted Rain to be safe and also his "grow up" comment comes into play later during the convo after Rain misses a deadline

Sorry, anon (and @anewbeginningagain and @macaroni-rascal) that this is so late in response.  

For the record (and to show my bias), it’s not as though they have ever played it safe and taken it easy with any of their programs.   But, if I have to narrow it down to literally one OD/SD and one FD as being “the hardest”... well fine then, anon, I guess I’ll play, LOL.

Unfortunately, if you were looking for some variety, you’re out of luck, because you get the same answer that @macaroni-rascal gave, because I too think that their hardest programs are Dream a Little Dream and Carmen.  

In general, it was easy for me to pick a program prior to the comeback, because of the technical requirement changes that began in 2015 (reducing the number of lifts, reducing the number of difficult steps/turns in the step sequences).  As well, the style of skating that came into ice dance during the era encouraged many more open holds in between the step sequence requirements,  So, to me, the choice was clear: technically, earlier programs were more difficult.

But on top of the literal requirements and expectations, VM took the GOE bullets to heart, and made sure that their elements still reflected the ‘character’ of the dance.  There was no cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all skating with the thin excuse that there was no room in the elements for creativity.  They found ways to inject little moments throughout, making their programs unique and keeping their difficulty high.

Dream a Little Dream was exquisite and is my ultimate Wuz Robbed VM program.  It was chock-full of transitions that were incredible, timed perfectly to the music, and all evoking a long ago era.  My personal favourite detail was the little turns they did near the beginning of their program, beautifully timed (first gif in this set) - just sneaking past the helicopter turn just moments later to ‘sycamore tree’.   But even that second gif - this is the middle of their unparalleled midline non-touching step sequence - and is the perfect example of finding the time in an element to add that character and detailing and creativity when so many felt it was impossible.  And yet, the difficulty was maintained - the moment when they are mirrored and could so easily click blades as they approach each other in a rocker?  Love that so much.  

And they keep sliding the character and difficulty in - something so simple looking, until you break down what is happening with each of them, and the interdependence involved, like this quick transitional dip.  Or adding what the fandom dubbed ‘champagne hands’ during their middle twizzle - and persevering though it gave them some trouble at first.

Quite frankly, I still can’t believe this program was ranked second at GPF and Sochi, and it deserved more respect than it got, LOL.

Meanwhile, my beloved Carmen.  It’s almost difficult to impress upon people now, just how stunning and ground-breaking it was in ice dance at the time when it debuted, along with being a complete departure stylistically and physically for VM on a more individual level.  Despite the intense grumbling fans had when the music was ‘leaked’ as being overused and tired, as pictures surfaced from High Performance Camp, it was impossible not to be intrigued by the positions in some of them.  And after they withdrew from Finlandia that season, and finally revealed the program at Skate Canada, it was clear that the entire program was unlike anything else that had been done.

Grounded in modern dance, you could see how they found a lower center of gravity with their bodies, and how they moved and created shapes, and interpreted the music.  

Every single element for Carmen was brand new to VM, and unique in ice dance. Even now, years later, ice dancers aren’t attempting to truly copycat what VM accomplished in this single dance.  This is, in my opinion, that because they made every single element so difficult, that the risk/reward ratio isn’t enough to tempt them to try - ice dance is limited in it’s scoring, as it might fulfill the requirements of a level 4, but it cannot reach beyond that, even if the difficulty is clearly higher than other dancers’ elements (which will also reach a level 4, according to the rules).

The spin? Turning their heads towards each other and him cupping her cheek during the camel position, or how Scott held Tessa’s skate blade in the sit spin and they rose together with him still holding her skate as she transitioned into a layback? Chills - still their best spin ever for me.

The twizzles? The twizzles themselves were excellent and fit the music… but the exit was the highlight for me. The synchronous halt of rotation on a single running blade, throwing their hands over their heads, and perfectly in time with the music?!?! I want to call it magic, but it’s because their technique and control and sheer confidence in their ability to perform it under competition nerves was strong enough to justify the insane risk of it all.  It always surprises me that when I start to rave about the Carmen twizzles, that they haven’t been more documented in photos or gifs.

And of course the lifts - the obvious highlight to the program.  Each one was so risky, with each partner (as usual) tasked with performing their part perfectly or it would be completely foiled.  Scott’s incredible spread eagle, as such a stable, steady base for two of them, is enough that she can be tossed in the air - twice - and caught with ease, or gliding so smoothly that she can be balanced delicately upside down on his shoulder.  Tessa’s core strength and sureness, so that she accomplishes the lift without pushing Scott’s rock solid base off kilter.  And of course, the backflip lift entry to the rotational lift, now so iconic because of Moulin Rouge and with fans nearly blase about it due to repeated viewings, but at the time, shocking and stunning and revealing just how athletic ice dance could be.

And yet, every element, including their step sequences (especially near the beginning of the season), and their many strong transitions, were solidly in character, reflecting the mood of the piece as needed - sex, love, betrayal, anger.  Every movement had purpose and meaning, rather than just being inserted as a cookie-cutter bullet point.  They struggled all season to make this program completely clean, and that hurt them from a points perspective, but the difficulty and ingenuity and artistry of their Carmen holds up as one of the hardest, most innovative programs in ice dance history.
