When I think of what fics I would rec people, all of long time categories - e.g. a fic you've re-read multiple times, a fic you wish you could read for the first time, would read ten years from now, love the most etc. - are mid 2010s football rpf with maybe a smattering of bbc merlin and hockey.

I've been in many fandoms since, each with talented authors, and I don't know whether those 3 above were just built different or if I was built different in mid to late 2010s.

#i think it's the massive talent that was in football r.pf at the time though?#idk ive read great fic that touchdd me since #but nothing made me stop breathing an vibrate the way reading two bodies pressed together did the first time #or sob thru every para the way all the things i can't keep did for how close it hit to home and how well the authors grasp of the situation #or have that sharp gut punch of nanis the timed wallow #or had me literally making an evening of it with wine whenever a new chapter drops like i like you unsweet #this is partially bc i just don't return to fics unless they changed me as a person #and that's a very high bar for any writer or fandom to meet - even the extraordinary ones
