do you remember when people were doing that bit that was doing exaggerated "british accents" and making fun of them. in retaliation to the perception of the "british accent" as fancy and proper in comparison to other english accents. but in actuality it only served to reinforce preexisting notions of accents and class because the exaggerated accent put on was always, always a stereotypical working class british accent rather than the actual prestige accent (standard southern british).
