Iâve got another idea.
Okay, so I love those fics that have Harry trying to use his Parselmouth on either (or both) the basilisk and the dragon in the first task of the Triwizard Tournament, with varying degrees of success. And a lot of the time, talking to the dragon kinda works, right? Like, itâs not direct communication, more like two people who are just above beginnerâs level in learning the otherâs language, and both languages are derivative of another one, so even if they donât fully understand they can kinda piece together what the other is saying?
So, letâs say itâs like that. And of course, dragons arenât born like squishy humans who take forever to learn to even roll over; they immediately start walking, flapping their wings, and hiccupping sparks, right?
AU
FIRST YEAR Harry, of course, doesnât realize yet that heâs a Parselmouthâhe doesnât even know what Parseltongue is and just assumed being able to talk to that snake in the zoo was just a wizard thing.
So, theyâre in Hagridâs hut, Norbert(a) is born, and Harry hears something that sounds an awful lot like, âFood? Hungry? Momma?â or whatever a newborn dragon would try to communicate.
Harry tries to tell Hagrid he thinks the dragon is hungry, he might want to feed it, but the others are confused because it sounds to them like Harry is hiss-cooing or something to the dragon. (Hagrid thinks itâs adorable.) But anyway, however it comes about, it becomes obvious in the time between the dragon being born and Charlieâs friends coming to get them, that Harry can, in fact, understand the dragon and speak to it.
Itâs not perfect, but heâs able to communicate to the dragon not to set something on fire or that they need to try to eat the rats as theyâre being weaned off the whiskey/blood mix thing. No one thinks itâs a perk of Parseltongue because hello, heâs talking to a dragon, and isnât this incredible? It must be some kind of ancient inheritance thing.
So, when they write to Charlie, they naturally have to ask him if heâs ever heard anything like that, so instead of just coming to collect the dragon, Charlie comes, too, and they witness this incredible thing. (So does Draco, in the shadows, of course.)
Charlie is super excited and reaches out to every expert he can, and he convinces McG to let him bring Harry out to a dragon range to be evaluated, and they try to keep this new, rare ability under wraps, but some of the assessors blab, and Draco wrote to complain to his father who goes on his own investigation, etc. At any rate, it becomes A Thing.
While Dumbledore steps in to ensure Harry goes back to the Dursleys, the obsessed dragon crowd refuse to be refused outright and secures Harry a camp-like thing at a dragon resort (because they think itâs clearly Harryâs destiny to become, like, the Ultimate Dragon Trainer, and Harry thinks dragons are cool and likes the sound of getting away from the Dursleys for a few weeks).
Their letters donât get through that summer, though, and Charlie hears from his brothers that they havenât heard from Harry either, so itâs Charlie who goes to check on him and finds him locked up with bars on his windows. Unlike Ron, Fred, and Geroge, Charlie is a grown-ass adult with his own connections now, which go beyond Dumbledoreâ reach because the wealthy dragon resort thatâs so interested in Harry is in a goddamn different country with a whole different magical government, and also, ainât nobody wants to get on the bad side of a self-sufficient DRAGON RESORT that has a ton of dragons that arenât just roaming their countryside thanks to them.
So, a new arrangement is made. Harry will return to the Dursleys, under strict Romania supervision (I imagine it's some seasoned, scary-looking dragon tamer who demands to stay in the house with them, taking over the guest room, like⊠ahhhh chefâs kiss) just long enough to satisfy the protection spell, but for the rest of the summer, Harry stays at the resort. Charlie becomes his unofficial guardian, kinda, and: enter, a bunch of OC dragon tamers who are awesome and very protective of their little dragon-speaker.
Second year goes a little differently. First thereâs Draco, who hates Harry more than ever over this, but while he knows heâll never get a dragon-in with the Weasleys, thereâs still a slight chance with Harry (and goddamnit, dragons are his NAMEâS SAKE, if anyone deserves free access to any dragon they want, itâs HIM), so he tries to become less of a bother. Harryâs still outed talking a different language during duel club, and some people are still suspicious, but most people know about his dragon-ability and wrongly assume the opposite of what it actually is (ie, he can kinda talk to snakes because he can talk to dragons), and Harry only tells Ron and Hermione that the snake was actually a lot easier to understand.
Go to next summer, when his new dragon-tamer-family learn about the events of second year, they firstly, throw a fit because they should have been informed their charge was in danger, and secondly, go and collect the basilisk because like hell are they going to let something like that just rot somewhere. So, figuring out how to destroy Horcruxes later becomes, like, SUPER easy and accessible.
Charlieâs the one who tells Harry about Sirius Black when he escapes, and he straight up tells Harry everything, about Black being his godfather and betraying his parents, all of it, so Harry goes into third year fully informed. He, of course, does not see the grim that summer. But he doesn't spent the year an emotional wreck, just getting a little bit of the info at a time, do with that as you will.
Harry arrives to school with a signed permission slip for Hogsmeade, and even though McGonagall still wants to refuse him because of Black, members of his dragon-tamer family just happen to be in the area for that year for âbusinessâ or whatever (aka, protect Harry because ain't nobody said shit to them last year) and escort him to Hogsmeade anyway.
(âWith all due respect, Professor, I once had a Peruvian Vipertooth grab my leg and toss me over a hill, and I still got back up and got the collar on her. You think Black scares me?â)
Most of their patronuses are dragons, except for one tamer whose patronus is a chipmunk, and funnily enough, itâs the most powerful patronus of all of them.
Draco doesnât insult Buckbeak because he wants to prove to the tamers and probably Potter that he can, in fact, handle himself with larger magical creatures. He becomes Hagrid's best, most dedicated student.
I mean, COME ON, imagine how the whole series can go differently.
Maybe the tamers get hilariously invested in the Scabbers/Crookshanks feud. It's the tamers, maybe, that figure out Scabbers fucking Pettigrew.
Different dragons have to be imported for the first task because Romania would be too biased - or they change the first task altogether because Harry's a known dragon-speaker.
They would DESTROY Umbridge.
Death Eaters vs Dragon Tamers. Dragon Tamers in the Order. Sirius lives because a Tamer was there in the Department of Mysteries to save him. Sirius not going out of his mind being stuck at Grimmauld because he can go to the resort where no one outside the Order recognizes him/cares.
Draco not becoming a Death Eater because he wants to become a Dragon Tamer.

Jason Todd x dragon trainer!reader
Summary: after a portal mysteriously opened in your world, setting all of your dragons loose, you must find a way to take them all back home before it's too late and before you catch feelings for a certain cute guy in a red helmet
Warnings: none; some mild cussing, reader wears glasses and jay's a bit awkward lol
Word count: 3.8k
A/N: first fic ever yay! I was rewatching HTTYD and this idea came to me and who am I to deny the muses of writing
Jason knew this patrol was going to be a tough one.
The usual gloomy Gotham night had a sort of electric tension to it, putting everyone on edge.
As he finished securing the guns on his holsters, a deafening roar made him jump out of his skin.
It was nothing like he had ever heard before: the sound seemed like it came from above his building complex, akin to that of a thousand lions. A loud thump shook the whole building and Jason peeked his head out of the window, watching as people on the streets were running away from flames, screaming in terror.
He sighed warily, grabbing more magazines than usual and hurrying down the fire escape, too preoccupied to reach his bike and go to the Batcave to tell them what the fuck was going on than to look back out of the kitchen window, where a pair of giant eyes was watching him leave his apartment.
As he rounded the corner of his building in a hurry, so close to reaching his bike in the garage, he abruptly stopped as he was face to face - or better yet, face to snout - with the humongous muzzle of a giant lizard.
Or at least that's what he thought it was until the creature opened his mouth and emitted scorching flames too close for his comfort.
Jason backed up, his mind running a hundred miles an hour.
"Hey there, buddy..." He tried to coax the thing, who was eyeing him with a blood-lust gaze.
Jason gulped, not too sure about his helmet's fire resistance anymore.
The thing was at least 10 feet tall and just as big, if not more. The scales on its body reflected the streetlamp light, giving it a more menacing look and steam seemed to come out of every pore on its body.
As both of them kept looking at each other, none of them relenting, Jason swiftly pulled out his gun, aiming it at the creature just as quickly.
Frightened by the sudden movement, the giant lizard thingy that he didn't want to call a dragon but that looked scarily similar to one, screeched, causing Jason to let go of his gun and clutch at his helmet in pain, the noise unbearable.
The dragon -yes, he was going to call it that- stumbled again and zeroed in his fire breath directly on his garage door, melting the metal panel.
"Shit!" Jason took several steps back to shield himself from the heat.
The dragon kept at it for several seconds, but all the damage was already done. As it took one final look around, it flew away, its huge wings taking out the flames.
Jason stood there in silence, the chaos of the outside world drowning out all of his thoughts as he stared at his bike, just the two silver handles barely visible in the otherwise pile of melted metal and burnt leather.
His chest heaved uncontrollably, just know realizing what he saw.
Suddenly, his comms activated, the shrill of Dick's screaming making him frown in irritation.
"Everybody, we've got dragons in Gotham!"
"No shit, Dickhead," Jason deadpanned, still looking at what remained of his bike.
"Oracle, I need a ride to the Batcave. Now."
You had spent the whole day tending to your dragon, Obsidian, as he had quickly gotten bored of his play buddies that he usually hung out by the lake with and had decided to bother you while you were studying.
"You big baby," you cooed at him, scratching his chin with your left hand as you continued typing on your laptop, one paragraph of your final essay almost finished.
After completing your bachelor's degree, you had decided to open a dragon sanctuary with your best friend from college after seeing so many of them getting mistreated and abused.
In the area where you lived, dragons were sadly thought of being more of a nuisance than loyal companions, thus leading everyone to think that they werenât worthy of love and shelter.
The first dragon you had ever rescued was Obsidian, discovering him near your local park after a morning jog.
His little paws were sticking out of the half-burned box he was laying in and you couldn't resist his big amber eyes staring at you, so you took him home, much to your parents' chagrin.
Now here you were, nearly two years later and almost finishing your master's thesis with a huge, sassy dragon resting his head on your lap and demanding scritches behind his horns.
"You're so cute, Obi," you smiled down at him.
The dragon responded by gently nuzzling his head further into your lap, a low purring rumbling through your whole body.
"So cute, such a cutesy, lovely-" your cooing was cut short by a large swooshing sound and screeches coming from the lake.
You furrowed your brows as you felt the way Obsidian's body tensed up and started growling at the direction the noise came from.
You set your laptop aside as you made your way towards the lake, your dragon hot on your tail, his black scales reflecting the moonlight.
"What the hell's going on?", you muttered to yourself as you reached the premises.
Your eyes widened as you saw all the dragons of your sanctuary lose their minds, their wings flapping erratically as they screeched in fright.
Slowing approaching the flock, you noticed how they were huddled around a sparkle of some sort.
You took your utility belt and your trustworthy lasso from the nearby hut in case something came out to harm you.
The sparkle was emitting blue light and it kept keeping bigger and bigger, opening up like some sort of portal, and as it grew in size, the dragons freaked out more and more, to the point where you had trouble controlling Obsidian as well.
"Easy now, easy, Obi," you tried to reassure him. Your bond with him was extremely solid and transcended everything you had felt before, so you could calm him down enough for him to still listen to you, but it was too late for the rest of them.
Now too far gone, they became skittish and as the both of you approached them, they ran through the portal, one by one.
You ran after them, swiftly getting on Obi's back as you saw the portal getting smaller again.
"Shit, Obi, run faster!"
As you shouted at him, you felt his wings sprawling out and you took flight, passing through the portal.
You looked around as you took in your new surroundings, but you quickly had to clutch your nose at the pungent reek of smog and overall dirt that seemed to cling to the city below you.
You furrowed your brows in disdain as you saw skyscraper after skyscraper, not a single ounce of green in sight.
It all was so different from your home, but you quickly had to regain your composure as you saw your dragons already wreaking havoc through the city, squishing cars under their weight and setting things on fire.
"Obi, fly low," you instructed him.
He grunted in acknowledgement as he slowly lowered himself from his previous stance and you instructed him to land on a rooftop.
Getting off, you took a once over at Obsidian, checking for anything out of the ordinary that might have happened as he flew through the portal.
Reassured that he was all set, you released a breath you didn't know you were holding.
Everything here seemed so...strange.
It was as if a bolt of lightning had struck the city and you could feel the static that was left in its wake.
Where were you anyway?
You didnât have much time to ponder on the question as you saw one of your wind dragons, Helix, making his way towards the outskirts of the city, gusts of wind quickly encircling him as he flew away. The white dragon couldnât have been too far away from you, so you decided to follow him in attempt to lasso him back and tranquilise him. You hated carrying the tranquiliser gun, but you knew that it was better to be safe than sorry when dealing with these giant creatures.
As you hopped back onto Obsidianâs back, a light caught your eye.
It was being shone from a near-by building, and it represented aâŠbat?
You contemplated on the image a bit, but then got pulled back to reality by you dragon suddenly taking flight.
You yelped as you reached for his horns, trying to hold onto them, completely caught by surprise.
âWhoa, Obi, what has gotten into you?â you screamed at the dragon, who huffed in response, tailgating Helix.
You held tightly to your dragonâs back, the absence of a saddle not bothering you, as thatâs how you first learned to ride.
You quickly approached Helix, the white dragonâs movements erratic and confusing you.
As you got closer to him, you let go of Obiâs horns and unravelled your lasso, positioning yourself upright, ready to catch one of his legs or, more hopefully, one of his wings.
The pursuit lasted several minutes and you couldnât get a clear opening.
Just as you thought you had a clear view of his hind legs, Obi suddenly stopped and remained still, his black wings still flapping to keep the both of you in the air.
You were about to question him but the words died in your throat as you saw that Helix was headed straight to what seemed like a manorâs rooftop.
Your eyes widened in shock, but you knew you couldnât do much and just looked with your mouth agape as he made full contact with the building, the great force of the collision seemingly rattling the manor.
Meanwhile, Jason and the others were in the Batcave, contemplating what to do.
âYou know,â chimed Damian, âif these dragons are anything like Goliath, weâve got nothing to worry about,â he said as he looked up at his pet dragon, who was lazily lounging next to him.
Both Dick and Jason deadpanned at that.
Dick was the first to speak up, his arms moving all over the place, âHave you seen them?â he asked, incredulous at his little brotherâs words, âtheyâre freaking huge, much bigger than Goliath and much, much scarier,â
âOne of them set my bike on fire.â Was all that Jason said, his arms crossed in irritation, wanting to get rid of them already.
Stephanie wheezed, holding her stomach as she doubles over in laughter, âIs that why you asked Barbara for the Batmobile to be brought to you?â
All she received was a dirty look.
âIf thatâs of any consolation, another one of them almost stomped me to death,â added Tim, shivering at the memory of almost becoming a human patty mere minutes ago.
Bruce pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a contemplative sigh as he thought on what to do next.
Before he got a change to open his mouth, a loud crash with a following roaring sound shook the Batcave's walls and the manor, making everyone brace themselves onto the console so they wouldnât fall.
Jason locked eyes with Cass as he shouted a âwhat the fuck is going on?â, voicing everyoneâs thoughts.
Bruce put on his cowl and gestured for them all to follow him, not waiting for them as they all put on their domino masks and helmets and got out of the cave as well.
âI hope to God that wasnât a fucking dragon crashing right into the manor because if it was-â
Dickâs threat fell on deaf ears as they all reached the left wing of the building and saw a huge white dragon trying to wiggle out of his spot on the rooftop, as it had completely caved it in when it crashed.
All they could do was watch in horror as the creature seemed to flap its wings trying to escape, sending bricks and debris flying everywhere.
They all swiftly dodged the moving objects, when all of a sudden, a personâs screaming voice pierced through the chaos.
Jason looked to the left of the manor and could hardly make out the silhouette of another dragon, this time pitch-black, who hadâŠa person on its back??
He had to do a double take to confirm that what he saw wasnât something his mind was conjuring up: on the dragonâs back there was a woman with a glowing lasso in her hands, yelling something at the white dragon who continued to thrash on â or should he say in â the manorâs roof.
Her yelling stopped as she spotted them on the ground, all of Gothamâs vigilantes staring with a mixture of confused and awe-struck expressions on their faces as she told something to the black dragon she was on and quickly landed on the manorâs grounds, the dimensions of the creature really showing when its horns brushed against the top branches of one of the oak trees planted by the entrance.
âFucking hellâŠâ was all that Jason could mutter as he took in the creatureâs large body, covered in black scales that reflected the garden lights in hues of metallic blue and purple. Its spiked tail swished back and forth as it started down at the group with its beady amber eyes, almost as if it was challenging them to try and come closer to you, now standing in front of it.
You held a hand to its snout and whispered something to the lines of âcalm down, bub, Iâm just going to talk to themâ, and the dragon visibly relaxed but still kept a guarded stance.
You hesitantly approached Jason and the others, who were all sizing you up to determine if you were a possible threat or not, but upon reading your relaxed and submissive body language their shoulders slightly sagged.
You walked until you were a few meters from them, then stopped and pointed back at the creature on the manorâs roof with your thumb.
âMy dragonâs on your roof,â you said with a sheepish smile, rubbing the back of your head.
No shit, Jason thought, but a small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth nonetheless.
He was admiring the way you purposely carried yourself with a calm and composed, albeit quite awkward, demeanour, having probably realized that dragons werenât an everyday sighting here.
Your eyes sparkled behind your glasses as you latched your lasso back onto your utility belt. Jason noticed how you were wearing civilian clothes, quite similar to the ones you could find in most stores here in Gotham, so he wondered how on earth did you look like some sort of dragon-cowboy back there, up in the air, with the lasso hovering over your head as you swung it with expertise.
Bruce was the first one to talk, taking a few steps towards you. You widened your eyes in surprise, not having noticed the black-clad man until now. A shiver run down your spine as you saw the menacing cowl he was wearing.
âWho are you and why are you here.â
You released a shaky breath as you started talking, feeling everyoneâs eyes on you.
âListen, I donât know where I am but I was just minding my own business when all of a sudden, a portal bigger than my house opened up in my backyard and that may have heavily triggered my dragons and they kinda went through it and are now here and I know they are wreaking havoc and are overall being so naughty Iâm so sorry-â you said all in one breath, your apologetic nature getting the best of you as you pleaded them not to hurt them.
Dick held his arm up, shutting you up, âTheyâre yours?â He said, an incredulous look clearly shown on his face despite his domino mask covering his eyes.
You nodded as if that were the most normal thing ever, giving him a strange look.
âUh, yeah?â You said, looking back at Obsidian, pointing at him, âWell, heâs technically mine, but the others are, too, since Iâve rescued them and theyâre now staying at my sanctuary-â you got interrupted again, this time by Damian, who received a concerned gaze from you, shocked to see a kid.
âYou have a sanctuary for dragons?â He asked, trying to sound nonchalant but feeling very excited to have someone to talk about dragons to.
You smiled in excitement, your sudden change in body language not going unnoticed by Jason as he kept quiet, memorizing your every feature.
God sheâs pretty.
Jason caught Cassâ gaze and felt himself blush as she gave him a knowing look, having clearly read his body language as well.
He was so grateful to have his helmet on at that moment.
Your laugh pulled him out of his thoughts and he caught you answer to one of Bruceâs questions.
â-yeah, so I donât know where it exactly was, I only was some skyscrapers after I passed through it,â you quickly explained.
Bruce nodded in contemplation, lowering his gaze to the ground, before your next question made him snap his stern eyes back at you.
âSo, whatâs up with the costumes and the masks?â You asked, slightly confused at the funny looking people in front of you. Maybe they were having some sort of party?
âYou donât know who we are?â Asked Stephanie in slight surprise.
You chuckled, looking at her, âShould I?â
âDuh, weâre Gothamâs best â and only â vigilantes!â
âWhatâs aâŠvigilante?â
Uh?
âUH?â
Everybodyâs incredulous gaze snapped to you and sensing your discomfort, Obsidian growled in warning at the group, still not getting too close to them per your command.
âEasy, Obi,â you reassured your dragon, smiling to comfort him. He huffed and turned his head to look at Helix, who had since stopped struggling and was looking at you curiously from his place on the manorâs roof.
âUhm, soâŠâ you continued, staring back at the group, âwhere I come from, we donât have vigilantesâŠso, care to explain what you guys do, exactly?â
Jason huffed a laugh at Dickâs defeated expression, his pride noticeably shrinking by the second as you stared at him as he were a lunatic.
âWe fight crime,â he said, turning your attention to him. He noticed your perplexed gaze, probably caused by the helmet he was wearing, âbut we do it in suits and masks to conceal our identity since, you know, we have day jobs and carry normal lives during the day.â
You mouth opened in realization, bashful for having mistaken them for randos but also relieved to have struck conversation with people who might be able to help you.
âSo, youâre like dragon protectors!â you said in awe, âthey basically do the same stuff you guys say you do, but while riding dragons so they can cover more land.â
âWait thatâs actually so cool-â
âI know, theyâre the coolest people where I come from!!â
âWait, where do you come from?â
You furrowed your brows, thinking of an answer that will probably help them understand your world better.
âEarth...?â
âWhat do you mean Earth, this is Earthâ, said another one of the vigilantes, a quite lanky one with black bangs falling on his eyes.
You shrugged in response.
âWe call it Earth, so I donât know what to tell you, reallyâ
âWell, then, we must figure out where the signal of the portal came from so we can understand if it was opened from your Earth or ours, and then weâll help you bring the dragons back-â Bruceâs plan was interrupted by Helixâs roar, this time in desperation as he wanted to be freed by the bricks that were digging into his scaled body.
You signed, turning back to them with an apologetic smile, âIâll get that.â
âDo you want us to help?â
You shook your head, thanking them, apologizing for the dragon-sized damage.
Bruce dismissed you with his hand, telling you not to worry about it.
As you walked back towards Obsidian, he turned back to the others, his tight-lipped expression evaluating the possible outcomes this situation could bring upon Gotham.
âSo, what do we think?â said Tim, his gaze not leaving your figure as you hopped onto your dragonâs back.
âSheâs nice, I like her.â
âWeâre not talking about that. We need to know if we can trust her not to use the dragons to turn the city to literal ashes,â said Damian, receiving a groan in response by Stephanie.
âYouâre awfully quiet, Todd,â Dick jabbed his little brother with his elbow, earning a stomp on his foot.
âWhat do you want me to say?â he responded, truly at a loss of words, âI mean, dragons? In Gotham?â
âWhat about Goliath, then?â
âWell, he isnât from here as well, you know,â
âI should show her him! Maybe she could tell us why heâs been itching like crazy for the last few weeks-â
The banter stopped as Timâs âGuys, look!â made everyone turn back around and watch with wide eyes at the scene before them.
You were now a good 15 feet from the ground, the wings of your dragon flapping steadily as you got up to your feet, positioning your body sideways to stabilize your core.
You took the lasso into your hands and started rotating it in a circular motion at the white dragon in front od you, who had begun to wriggle again out of fear of staying stuck there, his frightened gaze unable to clearly see you.
It was safe to say heâd never been the sharpest dragon amongst your flock.
Jason stared in awe as you swinged the rope one last time before flinging it at the dragon, catching him by one of his crooked horns. You secured your hold on it, tightening the rope quickly and then putting it in Obsidianâs mouth, who pulled once, twice, and at the third time successfully released his friend, setting him down onto the ground with a loud thump that shook the trees and bushes surrounding the premises of the manor.
You quickly got off of your dragonâs back and with some sort of weapon in hand and made your way towards the creature. Jason furrowed his brows in confusion at your âIâm so sorry buddyâ, thinking the worst when you aimed the gun at his throat, but taking a breath in relief when he saw it was a dart gun.
The dart now jabbed in Helixâs throat had a quick effect on his, as he slumped over, his chin squishing a fine topiary, turning the squirrel-shaped bush into a sad blob of leaves.
You smiled to yourself and petted Obsidianâs snout, praising him for a job well done.
Turning back to the group, you shouted happily, waving your arms to attract their attention but stopping mid air as you saw them all already staring at you.
âCan he stay here for a while?â

Jason Todd x dragon trainer!reader
Summary: after a portal mysteriously opened in your world, setting all of your dragons loose, you must find a way to take them all back home before it's too late and before you catch feelings for a certain cute guy in a red helmet
Warnings: none, slight mention of mythological creature abuse, Jason and reader begin to bond
Word count: 3.2k
A/N: second part to my first ever fic! I was happy so many of you enjoyed it, please let me know if you'd like a third part <3
As you walked around the cave, all you could do was admire the advanced technology surrounding you. You were craning your head up to get a better view of the animatronic T-Rex, a cup of tea in your hand. It was kindly offered to you by what you could only assume to be Batmanâs butler, Alfred. The old man had kind eyes and also gave you a slice of pecan pie, which you really couldnât refuse, especially after everyone in the room heard your stomach grumbling.
âSo, tell me,â you started to say, swishing the amber liquid in your cup, âhow can we find a way to get me and my dragons back home if we donât know who opened the portal in the first place and where it was activated?â
Batman let out a contemplative hum, his back turned to you. He was sitting at the console typing away. âWe need to check all of the security cameras in the city and also take a look at the airâs static and electromagnetic radiations that have possibly interfered with the electronic devices in Gothamâ
The others were in the room as well, each one of them with their brows furrowed, having clearly switched to âprofessionalâ mode, as you liked to call it.
With their domino masks and helmets gone, you could see how the three young men â Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin â starkly resembled Batman. You didnât know why they decided to reveal their identities. Thinking it over, you realised they actually didnât since you couldnât recognise them and they hadnât given you their real names. It probably figured that since you came from another universe altogether, youâd pose no threat to their identity.
Your gaze lingered on Red Hoodâs face. He had a rugged yet defined look to him that didnât let your eyes glance away. Be it the greenish eyes, the white streak on is hair or the scar on his neck, but you couldnât look away. You mustâve been staring pretty intensely since he lowered his gaze onto yours, a slight blush creeping up his neck and covering his ears.
You quickly looked away, your own face heating up in embarrassment at being caught.
Jason cleared his throat, trying his best not to let a chuckle escape him at your flustered reaction.
Cass raised a brow at you two, tilting her head to the side curiously.
âWe should go out and stop the dragons before they cause even more damage,â quipped Dick all of a sudden, quickly rising to his feet with newfound energy.
You clasped your hands together, nodding in agreement.
âYes! We should-â
Roarrr
Your brows furrowed at the noise. It clearly came from the batcave, but that wasnât a voice you recognised at all.
You looked at the others with a puzzled expression. They all seemed rather calm and even amused by the sound.
âThis way, Goliath, please, use your legs for once in your life-â
You turned to where Robinâs voice came and your expression lit up upon seeing the cutest and fluffiest red dragon just mere meters from you.
âAww whoâs this now?â you asked as you approached the creature.
Robin pushed the dragon towards you to no avail and you couldnât help but chuckle at the scene.
âHeâs- Goliath-â he explained between pushes, clearly out of breath.
The dragon eyed you warily.
You smiled softly at him, extending a hand for him to sniff, âHe can probably smell the other dragons on me,â you explained as you saw his ears perk up upon smelling your skin.
He gave you a look of approval and you began stroking his red fur. It was far softer than you had anticipated and it had a weird feeling to it. You pulled your hand back, examining it.
You grimaced as you saw your entire hand covered in a shiny, slippery substance.
âWhy is he covered in oil?â
Robin gave you a pleading look for half a second, before regaining his usual stoic composure.
âHeâs been itching a lot for the past few weeks and we figured that-âŠuhmâŠthe best way to treat him was to put an ointment on his body,â he explained, your wild out gaze on his making him freak out internally that he somehow messed up.
âPoor Goliath,â you cooed at the dragon, scratching his chin. You were grateful that you couldnât bring Obsidian in the cave with you or he would have thrown a jealous fit. You continued your ministrations as you gave him a once over. His skin was reddened because of the itch and the ointment and he continued to scratch his ears.
âI think he may have a skin infection,â you diagnosed, cleaning your hands with a tissue Robin gave you. âIf I were at the sanctuary, I would make him a sage compress and given him a two-week treatment.â
You sighed in contemplation, wondering what to do.
Robin came over to you, a map in his hands, âGothamâs botanical park is a few blocks away from here. Nobodyâs there during the night so maybe we could break in and get the ingredients you need.â
You raised your brows at him, amused by the fact that a vigilante would actually commit a break in and theft.
Sounds of agreement followed his proposition and you could only nod along.
âWe can drop by and get the ingredients while we search for the other dragons,â suggested Nightwing, looking over at you. You nodded again.
âGreat then,â he said, clapping his hands once, âWe need to separate so we can cover more ground,â
Immediately hands flew up and shouts were exchanged about who was going to team up with who.
âI wanna go with the bat!â snickered Spoiler, âI canât wait to see him try to catch a dragonâ
Batman still had his back turned, but was definitely listening to the conversation because his shoulders stiffened.
âNo, I must go with Batman, Iâm Robin after all-â
âYou wouldnât even tease him like I would!â
The bickering stopped as everyoneâs attention snapped onto Orphan, who was signing something.
âWhat did she say?â you asked, not being able to understand her and honestly just having learned a few signs for one of your deaf dragons, nothing more.
Nighwing beamed, âShe said that you and Hood over here should team up and search for both the dragons and the herbs togetherâ
Oh.
You and Red Hood both looked at each other and you suddenly registered what was bound to happen.
You and this incredibly attractive stranger on Obsidianâs back.
Oh fuck.
You laughed nervously and he seemed to mimic you.
âUhm, alright then,â you squeaked out, feeling everyoneâs eyes on you, even Batmanâs.
âOff you go, then, shoo,â Nightwing escorted you to the exit of the batcave, earning more than a few grumbled cusses from Red Hood â or should you just call him Hood?
You hardly managed to choke out a âgoodbyeâ before the door closed centimetres from your face.
âWhat a dickhead,â said the vigilante next to you, this time with only his domino mask on, âI apologise on his behalf- he doesnât know when to shut up,â he says with an irritated groan.
You chuckle at that, reassuring him. As you approached your dragon, you glanced up at him once more, taking in how his sharp features contrasted greatly with the soft curls of his black hair.
The moonlight gave him a sort of vampiresque look and you couldnât help but notice how his eyes seemed toâŠglow? It seemed as if his blueish-greenish eyes did a complete 180 and became this neon green colour.
You narrowed your eyes at that, continuing to walk.
Meanwhile, Jason side eyed you the entire walk back to Obsidian.
His mind wandered as he tried to come up with possible explanations about this whole situation. Who were you and where did you even come from. He wasnât buying the whole âOh, I come from Earth!â thing and neither were his brothers. Maybe there was a possibility that you truly came from a parallel universe were apparently dragons existed, but then why hadnât they had at least one encounter with these anomalies before?
He thought back to Superman and Krypton. Although it probably wasnât the exactly same thing, he guessed that if Bruce was allies and friends (although heâd never admit it) with Clark, then anything was possible.
He also found you really pretty and not alien-looking at all, but thatâs beside the point.
His eyes wandered back to the lasso on your utility belt. He had sworn that when it was up in the air, swinging above your head in loose circles it looked exactly like Wonder Womanâs.
He had to ask you about that later. For now, he could only grief his bike even further as he took a good look at the dragon in front of him that looked like it wanted to tear his head off.
He could only reciprocate the glare as your back was turned to both of them, fishing out your list of ingredients that were needed to make the compress.
âOk, soâ you started, oblivious to the death stare contest between Jason and the dragon, âare you ready for a once-in-a-lifetime experience?â
Jason looked at your excited expression and gulped nervously when your dragon huffed begrudgingly, clearly not wanting to let him on.
âYou sure about me getting on this thing?â Those were fighting words for the dragon, who shrieked offended at being called a thing.
You tried to not worsen things further, putting your palm out in dissuasion, smiling nervously.
âHe can understand your every word, Hoodâ you explained, your nervous and apologetic tone prompting Jason to see in the corner of his eye how the black dragon huffed in agreement, the smoke coming out of his nostrils making him wince.
He rubbed his neck sheepishly, âSorry, I didnât realizeâ
You waved him off with a smile, âItâs all good. Have you ever ridden a horse before?â
Jason took a second to think to himself â have I ever rode a horse before? - . He didnât know if he had no memory of doing so from all the concussions heâs had this year alone or because your gaze was making him slightly nervous. Yeah, it was probably the latter.
âNo,â was all he manged to blurt out, really not wanting to get on your dragonâs back.
âGood, because itâs nothing like it!â You laughed out, your shoulders relaxing, âI feared you wouldâve been one of those people who tried to get Obi moving by slightly kicking on his stomach because trust me â it wouldâve ended badlyâ
Jason didnât find humour in that, but chuckled along nevertheless.
He watched as you hopped on your dragonâs back with elegance and precision, not a single movement wasted. He also took notice at how Obsidian helped you up by lowering one of his wings. He put his helmet on, missing your disappointed look at his now covered face.
âCome on, take my hand and put your right foot on Obiâs wing boneâ you instructed as you pointed at where your foot previously was, your other hand outstretched for him to take.
Jason looked at your hand, then at your face. He looked at your hand again.
You couldnât possibly lift half his body weight up with a single hand, right? A hand that was significant smaller than this, nonetheless.
âAre you sure about this? Iâm a big guy, I donât want to â Oh shit!â
He didnât finish his sentence as you bent down to grab his hand and Obsidian nudged his foot on his wing, only to lift his whole body up as if he weighted nothing and fling him up in the hair. Jason screamed as he tried not to fly right into the bush behind you. He thankfully didnât as your tight grip on his hand prevented him from becoming the next rocket man of Gotham.
He landed right behind you, his whole body shaking as he tried to regain his composure.
âDonât worry about me, Obi does all the heavy lifting,â you said as you laughed so much that tears started to form at the corners of your eyes. Your dragon seemed to mimic your laugh with huffs and puffs as he moved his head up and down with closed eyes.
Behind you, sitting with an unamused expression and arms crossed over his chest, Jason had a half-mind to just ditch the two of you and walk to the botanic garden alone.
Your laugh quieted down and you looked back at him, this time with a genuinely apologetic look in your eyes.
He lifted the corners of his mouth ever so slightly, thankful for his helmet covering his face.
At least someone had the guts to mess with him like that.
âHold on tightly. Iâm warning you, Iâll try to go as slowly as I can but Obi doesnât like men that much and will actively try to throw you off, so itâs better if you hold onto me, that way he wonât do it,â you told Jason and he glanced down at the dragon, who was already looking at him with an already mischievous look in his eyes. Fucking hell. He hoped to survive his first ever dragon ride.
Jason lifted his hands that were previously on his lap and carefully held your waist, only his gloves and a few layers of clothes separating your skin from his. He swore he could feel the warmth radiating from your body.
âI said tighter, Hood,â you told him in a firmer tone, to which he responded by getting closer to you and pressing his chest to your back, his arms now circling your waist tightly.
He could feel your heartbeat picking up significantly and smiled to himself.
âO-okay, thatâs better,â you managed to squeak out before tapping your dragonâs neck once.
The sudden movement made him spread out his wings and soon enough you found yourselves up in the air, taking in Gothamâs skyline from above.
Jason couldnât help but bring you in even tighter, trying his best not to hinder your mobility as you tapped Obsidianâs ears to signal when to turn, opting your practiced tapping signs rather than having to shout out directions, now that you had someone else riding with you.
âIs this the place?â you turned around towards Jason as you got closer to a sign that had âGotham Public Botanic Gardenâ written in dark green letters.
Jason nodded, not being able to utter a sound as the proximity between you two made him nervous. He was accustomed to being held from behind when he rescued civilians and tried to take them someplace safe, but to hold on to someone and trust them with his life as he travelled on a dragonâs back? Yeah, that was a new one for him.
You patted Obsidianâs back twice, prompting him to land near the entrance. Thankfully no one was in sight as Jason figured you wouldâve gotten more than a few odd looks.
He was the first one to hop off the dragonâs back, already missing your bodyâs warmth as he tried to hold on to whatever remains where left of it on his leather jacket.
You then slid down, petting Obsidianâs snout with tenderness and placing your lips near his spiked cheek, âThanks, Obi. Now letâs go, we need to find quite a few things to help Goliath out.â
As you made your way through the various greenhouses, Jason walked by your side and Obsidian on the opposite one, protecting you from harm.
If he could say one good thing about that damn dragon, Jason would praise him for his protectiveness over you. He noticed how, from the very start, he always kept his eyes trained on you, not missing a single sign of discomfort and immediately taking action when he felt like you were being threatened.
Other than that, he was a complete jerk.
You continued to walk in peaceful silence that was only interrupted by you telling him you found another herb needed for the compress.
When you had almost gone through the whole list, Jason spoke up.
âHow do you know so much about dragons?â he asked, curiosity lacing his voice.
You smiled fondly at nothing in particular, as if reminiscing some good memories.
âYou see,â you continued walking, your gaze never leaving the herbs in your hand, âI was absolutely distraught at how the majority of the people where I come from treat animals that arenât your usual house pets, especially dragons. They would more often than not abuse, torture and kill them just for fun or to boast to others how they managed to kill a dragon-â you cut yourself off with a shaky breath, anger evident in your voice and your eyes.
Obsidian nudged your arm with a sad face, letting out a low grumble and you smiled weakly at him. Jason wanted to put an arm around your shoulders and pull you close to him, but he restrained himself.
âI found Obi one morning while working out in the park,â you continued, âand he was so cute, sitting there in that box that he accidentally had set on fire, so chubby and round with those big amber eyes- gosh he was adorable,â you chuckled, a single tear managing to escape and running down your cheek. Jasonâs hand twitched by his side.
âI took him home. My parents were seething with rage at the thought of me taking care of a dragon, an animal everybody in our community despised. So I left home and went to live with my best friend, Katie, in a house near our hometownâs lake and from there, piece by piece, we learned more about dragons as we rescued them.â
Jason stayed silent, your words making him see you in a new light. He admired your strength and perseverance, your will to not give up and go against your parents to do what you knew was right. He saw a lot of himself in you and he liked that.
âThatâs incredibleâŠwait, I never got your nameâ he paused embarrassed, having completely forgotten to ask your name at the batcave.
You smiled softly, not a hint of offence in your kind eyes, âNo biggie,â you shrugged light-heartedly, âitâs Y/Nâ.
âThatâs a pretty name.â
âThanksâ
You stayed like that for a while, content in the silent agreement you both had settled upon. Jason liked you. you werenât over the top like his siblings were, but also not a complete recluse who disdained human contact, as he often found himself to be like. You wereâŠyou. And he liked that.
Soon enough, you had gathered all your ingredients and were getting back onto Obsidianâs back. This time the dragon was much gentler with Jason. He probably felt the shift in demeanour you and him had during the walk and eased up on him. Jason was grateful for not getting hauled up like a ragdoll a second time.
As you were back up into the air, a sense of tranquillity engulfed the both of you before a faraway shriek reminded Jason that you still had another dozen or so more dragons to find and bring back to the manor.
Exchanging a look with you, he observed you directing Obsidian to where you had heard the sound, before a blaze interrupter your path and a pair of glowing eyes were set on the three of you.
Jasonâs blood ran cold and his mouth moved faster than his thoughts could as he pointed a gun at the fire-spitting dragon.
âThatâs the fucker that melted my bike!â

Modern dragon taming techniques recommend using lots of praise and affirmations, making a point to reward your dragon with plenty of kisses and pets whenever they do what you want, especially when theyâre in heat at their most rowdy
However plenty of dragon riders have found success in making obedient dragons the old fashion ways. Shock collars, whipping, name calling, and even more extreme punishments like being chained up for days on end, teased during mating seasons, and never allowed to release all that pent up energy have all been proven more effective on dragons stubborn enough to end up enjoying it, even if they donât want to.
#dragon posting#dragonkin#itâs me Iâm dragon#cw: nsft#cw: cnc#Iâm tired of nice dragon trainers I want to be broken into obedience#just hot to be trained by a creature I could destroy in mere moments#and instead they have total control over me
