Rise splinter is my fav bc HE IS FLAWED. This is why he's the most interesting splinter to me. Unlike other iterations, hes not "the wise one" who always knows what's best. Not to throw shade at other splinters, I'm just saying he's more of a character in rise than just the mentor figure. And I love him for that. He arguably got the most character development in rise

No but like every time I think about Splinter and what he had to go through just to keep the boys alive, my heart hurts for him so badly. Is he perfect? No not at all, but none of them are and by god does he love his sons.

The fact that all of them are alive, and grew to thrive despite the circumstances surrounding them is a testament of how much Splinter loves his boys. He raised four babies following the most traumatic time of his life, all alone with nothing but the sewers to house them (to hide them.) I feel like he’s not given the credit he deserves for all he’s done.

And I get that it’s easy to hold up his flaws and faults when it comes to parenting, I myself like looking into them because flawed characters are super interesting and said flaws make them more realistic and engaging, but he tries, and again, so many others would have given up on the boys or failed along the way but Splinter didn’t.

He’s their father, for all his faults he did his damndest to make sure they survived.

#i have a lot of data on how splinter is portrayed in the fandom #since i read waaaaaay to much fanfiction #and what ive learned is that people dont like writing splinter #and when they do hes either #a) acts more like other iterations of splinter #or b) acts waaaaay more neglectful and dismissive than in canon #but i think overall its really hard to write/portray the rise characters #bc they all have so much nuance #that a lot of the times it gets lost with people #one of the funniest things ive noticed reading fanfics is the #some huge thing will be going down with the turtles #and than author will be like oh crap splinter exists #throws him in half heartedly #than lets the turtles deal with it #when in reality rise splinter is actually one of the few splinters #where if he KNOWS whats going on #hes joining them to stop the threat #i actually have a whole ted talk on rise splinter vs 2012 splinter #and how 2012 splinter is more neglectful that rise splinter ever was #but not the point here #rise splinter is great for being incredibly flawed but always trying his best #pixel blurbs #rottmnt analysis #one more thing i want to add #i think its fine for people to go off canon and explore different things with splinter #bc do whatev you want its your creation #but i do worry that thats actually how people think of splinter #and believing fanon is canon is the issue here #hes flawed but he genuinely loves his sons #he almost sacrificed EVERYTHING for them
