the garage doesnât look like much from the outside. thatâs the point.
you donât want it to.
the rusted tin roof, the faded âCLOSEDâ sign dangling crooked on the door, the smell of oil and burnt metal â it all does a good job of keeping people away. people, but not him.
you hear the car pull up. the engineâs too nice for this part of town. expensive. showy. loud in a way that makes your fingers itch for the silence of your lab.
then the door slams, just as arrogant as you pictured. he doesnât knock. just walks in like he owns the place, like he owns you.
âyou rafe?â you ask, not even looking up from your burner. youâre mid-pour, and your hands are steady, precise â unlike his loud, booted steps behind you.
âthat depends,â he says, voice smooth and cocky. âyou the chemist?â
you smirk, eyes still on the clear liquid shifting in the beaker. âdidnât expect your new plug to be a girl, did you?â
âi didnât expect her to sound like sheâs already sick of me.â
âi am,â you reply simply. ânow shut up. this partâs delicate.â
it goes quiet. not silent â you still hear him moving behind you, taking in the setup, the gear, the controlled chaos you live in. most guys wouldâve made a joke by now. not him. not yet.
when you finally turn around, you size him up. tall. tan. sunglasses pushed back into his hair. sharp jaw and even sharper eyes, the kind that watch everything. a guy used to getting his way.
âsit,â you say, motioning to the metal stool across the table.
he does, slowly, eyes scanning the space like he's still trying to figure you out. "so what is this, exactly? your little science project?"
you slide the sealed container across the table toward him. âthis is your product. 98% purity. clean. stable. better than anything your little beach boys have touched.â
he opens it, lifts the container to his nose. his pupils dilate. his tongue runs across the edge of his teeth. âno way you made this here.â
âi made it in my head first,â you say. âthen here. donât underestimate me just because i donât run around with a glock and a gold chain.â
he leans back, eyes locked on yours. âand what do you want from me?â
âi donât sell. i cook. i need someone with connections, someone with muscle. you in? itâs 60/40, i cook, you move. donât ask questions, and donât fuck it up.â
thereâs a beat of silence. you see the smirk before it fully forms.
âand if i want more than that?â
you raise a brow. âthen you can take your dick and your attitude and find some other genius willing to make you millions.â
he laughs, low and warm, but thereâs something hungry underneath it. you donât like that. you donât like him. but you need him. for now.
âso thatâs how it is,â he says, drumming his fingers on the table. âno flirting. no touching. no fun?â
you lean in just slightly, voice cold. âyou want a cook, not a girlfriend. and i want a dealer, not a babysitter. you donât touch my setup, and you donât touch me.â
that seems to amuse him more than it should. âsure, sweetheart,â he says, pushing the container back to you. âbut letâs see how long that rule lasts.â

ââ OF COURSE, WE'RE FRIENDS ââ
WEEK ONE
after the two of you ran until the sunset it was awkward from there. jinx felt guiltyâ which she knew she shouldnât, but she couldnât help it. she practically begged you to be her friend and now chickening out like a pussy every time you get close.
she didnât know how to be a friend. what does she do? give you hugs? scary!
you on the other hand?
you got comfortable immediately, going to the shop every day, hanging out with her rambling, and asking questions on her latest projects. jinx tried doing the same but there was this twisty turny feeling in her stomach when she tried. she was scared of how you would react.
she wants this. she wants your friendship, she needs it.
maybe it was because she finally cared what someone thought of her. someone that wasnât silco or vi or isha.
she had to be vulnerable.Â
fortunately, you didn't have any of it. you were the type of person to confront the problems ahead. communication was important to you which jinx hated, but appreciated simultaneously. it was beyond uncomfortable. at least it told her how much you valued this friendship between the two of you. you were willing to work things out.
âwhat does this device do?â your hand ran over the contraption, and with one move, you were covered in glitter. you slowly turned to jinx, looking at her with a deadpan, âdonât laughââ
jinx nearly falls off her seat from laughing. Â
this was painfully new to jinx. being called a âfriendâ, calling someone else her âfriendâ was treading on unknown territory.
the way bubbles that formed in her heart the day she said yes burst every time you smiled at her as she ranted. that was sweeter than any candy you've given her.
you listen to her when she talks. you laugh at her dumb jokes. you walk with her around the plaza. you stay with her while she works on one of her (harmless) gadgets when you donât have work.Â
she was starting to understand the hype around having a friend. who knew sharing meals with someone made food taste even better? having a friend meant she could talk for hours on end and be met with a voice that wasnât tearing her down.
is she doing it right? maybe. she isnât sure herself.
grabbing a cloth, you wiped down your face. it didnât help much. powderâs laughter wasnât any help either.Â
âyouâre helping me clean that up, sprinkles.â powder tosses you a broom with a grin on her lips.
WEEK TWO
stalking your friend is totally normal. thereâs nothing wrong in making sure your friend gets to work safely, especially when thereâs a gang after her. besides, is it really stalking if sheâs hiding in plain sight? she just so happened to blend in with the colorful scenery of flosnum. much like herself, flosnum loves colors.
pink and orange powder that you can get from kicking plot plants. beautifully painted murals. colorful homes. it was a colorblast.
and just like the good friend she is, she knows your schedule by heart!
you wake up around seven am, ready for the day at about eight-thirty, do a bunch of random stuff after that, and show up at her house or shop at eleven am to hang out. on weekends and wednesdays, you work the afternoon shift. mondays and fridays are your days off. the rest you work at night.
you can't blame her for it, she has no idea what she would do if you got hurt. sheâs finally settling down, and that took 10 mental breakdowns.
sometimes, while following you, she'll get distracted and end up at the ice cream truck. after trying out all the poor old man could offer, cotton candy became her favorite.
what was she doing again? oh yeah!
your work was demanding, which is odd because sheâs been at bars. hell, she grew up at one. she knew what they were like, and it certainly wasn't supposed to be what you were doing. she had never seen a bartender work so hard. powder was pretty sure the job wasnât supposed to be this intense.Â
SEVEN CHIMES was just like its home flosnum with a mature air. paper lanterns that would illuminate a variety of colors and shadows of white stars on the ceiling some days. weekends it would be packed and that was one of those days.Â
you were exactly the same while you worked. the customers loved you. even if they were drunk, the only type of handsy they would get is an arm swing around your shoulder.Â
your coworker, stella is what you called her, kept your eyes on you a bit too long. stellaâs eyes trailed your body up and down before meeting powderâs.
they locked eyes.Â
with a smirk, stella broke the contact eye.
.
.
.
okay, what the fuck was the smirk about?
powder slumps down in her seat from the corner of the bar. she already knew she wasnât going to like her. who the hell did that girl think she was? does she want to fight? because powder will! feeling her eyes twitch she looked down to slip on her pink fuzzy drink.
âbaby blue?â
jinx's eyes shot up to the voice. it was you! in all your glory, the blue light hitting your pretty dark skin, wearing that smile the same way you wore the stupid bronze turtle necklace around your neck. pretty.
after she was done checking you out a frog got fixed in her throat. she's been caught. wait! itâs not the end of the world yet. she could just brush it off as a simple visit! perfect plan.
âwhy did you tell me you were here?â you sit down on the opposite side of the table as her. âstella told me 'a certain blue-haired girl' had been 'keeping her eyes on me.'â
ohhhh, so thatâs why she smirked.
snitch.
âjust wanted a drink.â powder shrugs and keeps sipping down her drink.Â
âyou couldâve said hi, ya know? now i feel bad for you sitting here all alone.â you frown.
âyou say that like iâm going type of loner!â powder scoffs. you raise an eyebrow as if youâre saying âare you not?â.
she furrows her brows, âi am not!â she defended herself.
âi never saidââ
âyou were going to!âÂ
you leaned back and sighed. that struck something in jinx. sheâs got you annoyed.
shit.
now you were probably thinking of breaking it off with her and never seeing her face again. she shouldâve known. she shouldnât have gotten attached. âIâm sorryââ
âcome on blue,â you interrupt her, getting out of your seat. âmy shift just ended, and iâm starving!â you take her cold hand in your warm one, pulling her out of the bar.
WEEK THREE
blue was mysteriousâ was.
this girl bounced off walls. no filter. talks back to old mean people who gave you a hard time. she had to be constantly doing something or doing nothing. no in-between. you adapted to it.
she's unlike anyone youâve ever met.Â
the shop you gave her? now her hideout. she completely renovated it in her own style. remember that broken illuminating sign? now the sign had no words it was aâŠ
monkey?
you think it was. you saw it often in her work. youâre guessing it was her signature.Â
you liked moments like this. standing behind her, brushing her short hair mindlessly. her hair grew really fast, it was almost to her shoulders now.
jinx tinkered on the glitter bomb that exploded in your face three weeks ago. her tongue stuck out the corner of her mouth in concentration.
it was odd. her hair. not that it was bad, she somehow pulled it off amazingly, but you canât help but think that this was a recent cut. âwhy did you cut your hair this way?â you asked.
she pauses her work and looks up, leaning back in her chair to get a better look at you. âwhat, donât like it?â your heart jumped at the sight of her.
she was so cute. wide pink eyes, blue eyeshadow, dark lipstick, and glitter stains on her face.Â
âno, just curious,â you spoke softly. powderâs eyes trail away from you as she thinks about whether she should answer your question.
in the meantime, you noticed some dark grease on the corner of her mouth. it was nagging at you, she was dangerously close to eating it if she were to lick her lips.
taking your thumb you lick it and then wipe it off of her. the action caused her to scrunch up her face a bit but she didnât pull away. âit was a weakness.â she answered your question, âmy hair was wayyy too long, practically dragged it on the ground.â she shrugged still looking up at you.Â
âplus, i needed some change.â jinx made her hand into a gun and slowly raised it up to you, âpow.â she pretended to shoot you.Â
âshooting me now?â your voice amused, raising a brow at her.
âyou shouldâve dodged it,â she shrugs, looking back down to her work. she set it down on the workbench and spun her chair around, ânow youâre dead,â she got up from her seat to get another tool. "sucker."
âi thought you liked me!â you grumble, her back was now turned to you.Â
âjust a little.â she plays into it and turns around.Â
her eyes widened to see you point a sucker to her head, with a smirk on your face, ânow, youâre dead.â
âoh, so thatâs how you wanna play, princess?â she puts her hand on her hip.
âyou started it, cutie.â you unwrap the sucker, placing it in your mouth.
she narrows her eyes at you with a frown. a cute frown. you could tell she wasnât really angry. she takes the sucker out of your mouth and places it in hers.Â
your breath hitched. this should not be affecting you the way it is. the heat that coursed through your body went straight up to your face. jinx leaning closer didnât help, you could envision her tongue swirling around the candy.
oh fuck.
WEEK FOUR
the warm softly grainy sand slipped between jinxâs toes as she stood barefoot on the beach. the beach was bustling. children darting around, teenagers around playing volleyball, and locals dancing to the music that filled the air.
she sits down on the blanket you placed down. âyouâve gotten tanner, blue.â you say as you just finished applying sunscreen on yourself.
she didnât even know what sunscreen was until she crashlanded her. âyou used to be a ghost, now look at you.â she wasnât tan, she was still pretty fair, but she wasnât as white as a ghost the first time she got here.
you sat on your legs in front of her with your hand lathered up with sunscreen. you slowly approached her giving her the time to pull away. she didnât. you applied the sunscreen on her tattooed arms.
jinx didn't need you to do this. she couldâve done it herself, but your touch was niceâŠ
also because of the view it was giving her. ânow, where have you been hiding these bazongas!?â
"I've had these the whole time" you deadpan at her, get up and crawl away to the other side of the blanket.
"never out in the open like this!" she bursts out laughing at your reaction. âwait, wait! come back, pretty lady!â she grabs onto your wrist, pulling you closer.Â
she was terrifyingly strong for someone so thin. âyouâre no better than a man!â you yelp but donât pull away (not that you could).Â
âcan a girl appreciate some beauty?â she huffs, wrapping her arms around your waist and pulling your back to her chest. ânot my fault theyâre right in front of me.â she pokes at them. jinx bit her lip to contain her laughter.
the clear blue water shimmered in the sun like it was a jewel. jinx clung onto your back, arms around your neck, and legs wrapped around your waist. fun fact! jinx canât swim. âyouâre such a baby.â you giggle, she puts her cheek on yours.
the both of you spent the time in the ocean teaching her how to swim or trying to kill each other by splash wars (you almost went blind because of her).
it was sunset. the both of you laid down on the blanket under you, looking up into the now pink sky. powder held onto your hand and you gladly held it with the same intensity.
âi like this, toots.â she turns her head to you but you donât seem to notice. your eyes were fixated on the sky, you hand slightly loosened your grip.
your face drops into an annoyed expression, âi like this too.â foolishly you let out a tired sigh.
jinx's mind swirls.
she lying to you! she doesnât mean it, do you see the way she replied? youâre such an idiot for trusting her. sheâs probably only hanging out with you out of pity.
jinx shook her head, âyou sure? you donât sound like you did.â her voice offended.
you finally looked back at her. âsorry, baby blue. iâm just tiredââ
she scoffs. âtired? tired of me? i thought we were having fun!â she sat up.
taken aback by her reaction you quickly backtracked what you said. you didnât want to make this any worse. you got up to level with her, âno, no. of course not tired of you. i love hanging out with you, baby blue.â with that you seemed to get through to her, her face relaxed.
sheâs tired of you. sheâs tired of you. sheâs tired of you. sheâs tired of you. sheâs tired of you. sheâs tired of you. sheâs tired of you. sheâs tired of you.
jinxâs jaw clenches. why would you be tired of her? that doesnât make sense! sheâs made sure you had fun this whole time. yeah, at the beginning of your friendship, she chickened out a bit but you forgave her. yeah, she would pull stupid pranks but you love them. so why would you be so rude?
she looked into your warm eyes. âyouâre lying to me!â she rips her hand away from yours. why are you lying to her? jinxâs eyebrows furrowed, jaw tensed and her forehead held creases.
âiâm sorry, blue. i just got stressedââ
âif you were stressed why would you come here in the first place? if youâre not having fun just say so, you didnât have to fake it and lead me on the whole day.â she stood up and you did the same.
âwhat?â like an idiot, you laugh at the situation happening right now. âi never said all of that. honey, if you let me finish my sentence you would understand.â
now sheâs laughing at you, sheâs not even trying to hide it!
âshut up!â jinx shouts and you quickly pipe down. her breath came out in heavy pants. hands trembling over her ears. her mind was in overdrive. she was thinking about everything. about how you hate her. about how this was doomed from the start.
she shouldâve known, no way someone would actually want a genuine connection with her. itâs not like you could ever understand her.
she points her finger out accusingly, âyou think this is a laughing matter? you think iâm a joke!âÂ
your voice got caught up in your throat. this was insane. she was insane. she was just making up things on the spot to play the victim. you suck in a breath and shake your head. âwhatâs wrong with you?â
those words left like a gunshot to her heart.Â
told ya.
jinx.Â
not that you had to work hard to get to this point. wasnât like she liked you to begin with.
hot, frustrated tears welled up in her eyes, her nails dug into the palm of her hand, letting blood drop freely onto the blanket under the two of you. an uncomfortable silence hung in the air, thick and stifling.
her glare at you intensified, a flicker in her pink eyes of⊠betrayal? a step back, followed by another, soon, she left you alone on the beach.
this was a mistake.

HELLO EVERYONE GUESS WHO'S BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (âąÌ€ÌáâąÌ€Ìàč) I've got another @pjo-equinox-solstice-exchange fic for you, this time for the darling @lavndvrr who asked for Valgrace, so OBVIOUSLY that's what I went with. We also got a wee lil bit of hurt/comfort in there for some spice. I hope you like it!
The title comes from Paul Laurence Dunbar's poem "Good-Night" because I am clinging to my title of Most Pretentious Bitch In This City with pride.
And with that, here is And ease thy soul with slumber bright.
Piper chewed her bottom lip while she studied him. Eventually, she spoke. âLeo⊠doesnât like sleeping.â âIâve gathered that much,â Jason confessed. âIs there any reason for that? Any way I can help?â âI dunno.â Piperâs gaze drifted over to where Leo was still sitting, enjoying the breeze Jason had called for him. âHe doesnât like being exposed. Thereâs not really anything you can do, other than wait for him to feel okay around you.â She hiked a challenging eyebrow at him. âYou willing to do that? You ready to wait?â For Leo? Anything. Jason shrugged. âYeah, of course.â *-*-* Leo's not sleeping, and Jason is concerned. Unfortunately, there's only one thing Jason can do to help, and that's to simply love him.
Jason would freely admit that he was more than a little concerned about Leo. Beyond the usual levels of âmother henningâ that Leo and Piper liked to accuse him of, that is. And it was all because heâd been in the middle of a really boring meeting, eyelids heavy, when he realized something unsettling.
Leo didnât sleep. Well, that wasnât quite true. He did sleep. Obviously he slept, even if he made it abundantly clear that he would give just about anything to avoid it. But he didnât do it often, always the first one on the ship awake in the morning and the last one up at night, and Jason could count on one hand the number of times heâd seen Leo asleep, and they were all during the quest to save Juno when theyâd been stuck together on the back of a giant metal dragon together with nowhere to hide. Since that realization, Jason hadnât been able to focus on anything but that, and now he was just sitting there staring at Leo with a crease across the middle of his forehead while Leo sat with his legs dangling over the side of the boat, tinkering with some complicated bits of bronze and wires.Â
âAre you, like, actually gonna talk to me, or should I go hang out with Hazel instead? She said she could teach me how to paint my nails without making a massive mess. Because as much as I hate painting my nails, it would be better than this.â
Jason blinked in shock and turned to see Piper looking at him with her eyebrows up near her hairline and a half-smirk on her lips. He chuckled softly and scratched the back of his neck. âSorry, I was, uh, distracted.â
âYou donât say.â She cocked her head to the side. âWhat are you thinking about?â
âLeo.â
âWell, you are breathing, so I had assumed that much.â
Jason felt his cheeks flame and he scowled at her. âShut up.â
Piper didnât look apologetic in the slightest. âSo, what, specifically, are you thinking about Leo?â
Jason sighed and let his eyes trail back over to Leo, who had put away his little project, and was now just staring out over the sea, the sun beaming down on his cheeks. Without thinking about it too hard, Jason called a tiny little breeze to blow over Leo, the wind gently tugging at his curls and making him smile in easy contentment. Jason shook his head and turned back to Piper. âYou roomed with Leo at Wilderness, right?â
Piperâs brow puckered, clearly not expecting the question. âUh, yeah. For, like, three months. Why?â
âDid you ever see him sleep?â
Immediately, Piper stiffened, and she bristled up defensively. It was a stance Jason was more than familiar with, seeing as both Piper and Leo fell into it the instant someone asked a question that touched a little too close to those sensitive parts of their pasts. Jason had learned by now that the best way to handle these moments was to just sit back and let them scowl at him suspiciously. He couldnât get his feelings hurt and push at them or try to desperately backtrack what he said, he just had to sit there and wait until their hackles went down and they approached him like a hesitant alley cat of their own volition.
As expected, Piperâs shoulders relaxed and her brow smoothed out and she instead went to chewing her bottom lip while she studied him. Eventually, she spoke. âLeo⊠doesnât like sleeping.â
âIâve gathered that much,â Jason confessed. âIs there any reason for that? Any way I can help?â
âI dunno.â Piperâs gaze drifted over to where Leo was still sitting, enjoying the breeze Jason had called for him. âHe doesnât like being exposed. Thereâs not really anything you can do, other than wait for him to feel okay around you.â She hiked a challenging eyebrow at him. âYou willing to do that? You ready to wait?â
For Leo? Anything. Jason shrugged. âYeah, of course.â
âYou sure?â Piper asked. âIt took, like, two months for him to get comfortable with me and we literally lived together.â
That was a startling revelation. The idea that there had ever been a point in history when Leo didnât implicitly trust Piper was almost ridiculous. Still, he just shrugged in easy acceptance again. âYeah, sure. He can take however long he needs. Iâm not going anywhere.â
Piper gave him a beaming smile, and Jason knew heâd said the right thing. âYou really arenât, are you?â
Jason quirked his mouth up in a smile, and let his gaze settle comfortably on Leo again. This time, though, Leo glanced over, his eyes bright and his lips curled up lazily. Jason gave a little tiny wave and Leo tipped his head back with a laugh that Jason couldnât hear, but still made his heart thump heavily in his chest.Â
Yeah, Iâm not going anywhere.
*-*-*
After that conversation, Jason had somewhat forgotten his observation. Piper had told him to wait for Leo to come to him, and he was more than willing to do just that. He knew without a shadow of a doubt that Leo would eventually turn around and see Jason standing there with arms outstretched and allow himself to be wrapped up and squeezed tight. Metaphorically, that is. Literally, Leo was already more than comfortable with Jasonâs proclivity for physical contact and his love of proximity, which Jason was glad for. If he hadnât been allowed to fold his favorite people tight to his chest and give them gentle headbuts and rub their cheeks together, heâs pretty sure he would have started ripping his hair out.Â
Piper didnât exactly love all of Jasonâs physical affection. She was happy to receive hugs and sheâd hold his hand or press kisses to his cheeks, but she liked to keep it brief. She didnât like being tangled up and held in place so Jason could show her just how much he appreciated her existence, and that was just fine with him. She still gave him those blinding smiles and spoke to him in that kind tone and would sit in silence at his side for hours at a time. Jason knew Piper loved him, she just needed room to breathe while she loved him.
Leo was an entirely different story, though. For as much as Jason wanted to tuck Leo into that little spot behind his ribs and beside his heart where he knew Leo would be safe forever, Leo seemed just as eager to crawl right under Jasonâs skin and live there. There wasnât a moment where Jason and Leo were relaxing together when Leo wasnât all but plastering himself to Jasonâs side. Not that Jason made it all that easy for him to do anything else, seeing as he was immediately reaching for Leo with grabby hands the moment heâd made himself comfortable on the couch. Piper liked to laugh at them, but Leo would always scoff and accuse her of jealousy from the comfort of his and Jasonâs cuddle pile.
They were in the middle of one of those cuddle sessions when Jason was forcibly reminded of his conversation with Piper. The whole crew was piled up in the living room, having a Percy-mandated movie night. Annabeth had pulled the short straw (Jason wasnât about to accuse anyone of cheating, but he highly suspected it) and sheâd chosen Wizard of Oz of all things. Percy had gone completely red and bashful at her choice, which Jason didnât understand until Piper leaned in with a conspiratorial whisper and told him and Leo that Wizard of Oz was the first movie Annabeth had ever seen, and it was a movie Percy had watched with her. Leo had snickered, but Jason confessed he found the gesture very sweet and more than a little romantic. Leo accused him of being a sap, his gaze soft and his smile fond.
Unfortunately, for as romantic a gesture as the choice was, the movie itself wasnât exactly entertaining. Percy and Annabeth were obviously enthralled, and Hazel was still fascinated with any and all color film, but Frank was zoned out and playing with a Chinese finger trap, and Piper was actively snoring from her place on the floor in front of Jason and Leo.Â
Beside him, Jason heard Leo huff and felt him burrow even closer to Jasonâs side. He smiled softly and tugged Leo impossibly closer. âTired?â
âBored,â Leo corrected. He shifted around until he could grumpily squish his cheek up against Jasonâs chest. âThis movie is a snooze fest. Canât believe this is how Percy introduced Annabeth to cinema. I can hardly keep my eyes open.â
Jason chuckled and rested his chin in Leoâs dark curls. âDonât worry about it. If you do fall asleep, Iâll wake you up, if you want.â
Leo went stiff as a board, and Jason cursed himself, furious that heâd gone and drawn attention to the matter. Still, he deliberately kept his breathing slow and even, like he hadnât said anything at all. Leo didnât speak, but his fingers were tapping out Morse code messages on Jasonâs chest so fast a professional decoder would have trouble keeping up, and Jason was half-certain Leo was going to hop to his feet and flee.Â
Yet he remained still.Â
âYouâll wake me up?â Leo asked softly.Â
âOf course,â Jason promised without a secondâs hesitation. âIâll keep an eye out, make sure nothing interesting happens.â
Leo chuckled and settled back against Jasonâs chest. âIâll hold you to that, Superman.â
Leo never did fall asleep for the rest of the movie, or even the one they put on after. But he remained at Jasonâs side, and his breathing was slow and even and his eyes drooped heavily. A sharp tension that Jason had never noticed before was suddenly absent from Leoâs shoulders, and Jason realized that for the first time ever, Leo was completely and totally relaxed. Leo wasnât asleep, they hadnât gotten there yet, but this felt important.Â
Jason couldnât help but press his giddy smile into Leoâs curls. Take as long as you need. Iâll be here.Â
*-*-*
Jason was on night watch the next time he thought about Leoâs sleep issues. In all honesty, he liked the night watch, especially when the Argo II Â was in the air, rather than the water. He liked prowling around the deck, empty other than himself, and getting lost in tracking the way the air flowed around the ship, keeping it aloft with a breathtaking combination of engineering and magic. Leoâs work in bringing the ship to life from nothing but a twelve-year-old crayon drawing had always impressed Jason, but there was something about getting to actually feel the way Leoâs work cut through his element that left him near breathless in wonder.Â
Plus, if he was on the night watch, that meant none of his crew members were, and there was a little part of his brain that insisted he take care of them that he couldnât ignore. If he was on night watch, that meant that all of his friends were safe and asleep in their beds, resting easy with the knowledge that Jason was awake to protect them.
Well, most of his friends were asleep.
âLeo?â Jason called softly. âWhat are you doing up here?â
Leo jerked upright with a sharp gasp, and he whipped his head around, eyes wide. When he saw that it was Jason looking at him, he sagged in relief and let his eyes slide back shut. âHey, Jason.â
âThat doesnât answer my question,â Jason accused, keeping his tone gentle. He lightly stepped into the crowâs nest from where heâd been flying moments before, and took a seat at Leoâs side. He snaked his arm around Leoâs waist and tried not to feel too pleased when Leo slumped into his side and thunked his head down on Jasonâs shoulder. âWhat are you doing up here?â
Instead of answering, Leo fiddled with the hem of Jasonâs shirt for a moment. âWhat are you doing up here?â
âFeeling the air flow,â Jason answered easily. âI can sense it when Iâm grounded, but itâs easier up here. If I focus, I can almost see the air currents and the wind moving around the ship.â
âHuh,â Leo said softly. âThatâs neat.â
âIt is,â Jason confirmed. He smiled over at Leo then. âI know Iâve said it before, but you really did a good job making this thing, Leo.â
Leo shrugged half-heartedly. âItâs not that great. Besides, itâs not like I built it by myself.â
Jason was shaking his head before Leo could even finish speaking. âNo, itâs more than that. This ship is yours. Even if other people helped build it, youâre the one who made it, and everyone except you would agree. And it really is that great. I told you I was feeling the air, right? Do you know why I like doing that?â
âI figured it was some Sky Boy thing.â
âItâs not.â Jason closed his eyes and smiled softly, losing himself in the airflow again. âI like it because it lets me feel the ship in a way no one else can. I can feel the way you made it all work. I can feel the way the engine manipulates the air, I can feel the magic that it uses.â He chuckled quietly. âItâs all very Leo.â
âThatâs, umââ Jason heard Leo swallow heavily. âThatâs neat.â
âItâs amazing,â Jason corrected. âThe work you did is amazing, Leo. Youâre amazing.â He opened his eyes to see that Leo was already staring at him, cheeks vermilion, and he smiled. âThis ship? Itâs beautiful, Leo.â
âI-â Leo cut himself off with a choked noise and tucked his face into Jasonâs shoulder. âThanks.â
Jason huffed out a quiet laugh and pinched out a few of the tiny flames that had sparked to life in Leoâs curls. âYouâre welcome. I mean every word.â
Leo swallowed heavily enough for Jason to hear again. âI know you do.â
Jason hummed, content with Leoâs response and started combing his fingers through Leoâs hair. He curled each lock around his finger before pulling it taught and releasing it to watch it bounce back in place. Every now and then another little fire would spark to life, but heâd smother it just as quickly as it formed, delighting in the way the flame would dance over his fingers for just a moment.
Then, Leo broke the silence. âDo you still wanna know why Iâm up here?â
Jason hummed softly, considering. âIf you wanna tell me, yeah. If not, Iâll live with not knowing.â
âOkay.â Leo was back to tugging on Jasonâs shirt hem, picking at the loose threads with his bitten-off fingernails. Jason said nothing, and just waited until Leo cleared his throat. âI, um, had a nightmare.â
Jasonâs attention immediately piqued and he frowned. He wanted to ask so many questions. Was it a nightmare about the quest? Was it a message from a god? Or was it a nightmare not related to any demigod stuff at all? Was he dreaming about his past, or was it a classic teenage nightmare like showing up to school in his underwear? Did he want to talk about it? Was there anything Jason could do to help? Would he be content to sit back and let Jason fix everything that was wrong in his life or would that be too much to ask?Â
Instead of any of that, he just nodded in sympathy. âSo you come up to the crowâs nest after nightmares? Canât sleep?â
âDonât want to, more like,â Leo muttered. âI justâ I hate that moment when you wake up, you know? That moment when youâre not in the dream any more, but you realize that youâre still in danger because you were just asleep. Makes me sick. So I come up here to get as far away from everyone as possible.â
Jason didnât understand that feeling. Not fully, at least, but he doubted Leo expected him to. So, he just hummed softly. âI get it, man. You want some company, or do you wanna be alone?â
Leoâs fingers fisted in Jasonâs shirt like he was worried Jason would leave, but his tone was light and teasing when he said, âYou know Iâll never say no to your company, Superman.â
âAlright then,â Jason agreed easily, feeling like his chest was going to burst from pride. âYouâve got it for as long as you want it.â
They fell into silence after that, neither of them speaking a word until the sun rose up over the horizon and Piper called them down for breakfast. Leo just stayed curled up next to Jason, playing with his shirt hem and tracing patterns on his chest and tapping out messages Jason had no hope of deciphering. He didnât sleep, but he did rest, and Jason was more than content to keep watch over him as he did so.Â
*-*-*
Jason hadnât been sleeping well. Not since Percy and Annabethâ Not since Rome. Every night he laid in bed, perfectly still like heâd been called to attention, and with a few practiced deep breaths, he was asleep, just like heâd been trained. But it didnât matter. It didnât matter how many hours of sleep he got, he woke up the next morning just as exhausted as he had when heâd gone to bed. Every day he woke up and gritted his teeth through whatever the gods threw their way, before collapsing into bed and falling asleep so he could do it all again the next day.
But that wasnât happening tonight. For some reason, Jason couldnât sleep. Heâd done everything he knew how to do, but there was something keeping him awake. Something gnawing at his consciousness that told him he couldnât sleep. Something that said he had to stay awake. That there was something he needed to do.Â
He growled softly and threw himself out of bed, storming (almost literally) down the silent halls. Coach hadnât been enforcing the curfew recently, and even if he tried, Jason wasnât in the mood to listen. He was at the end of his rope. He needed to get rid of this energy. He needed to find one of the training dummies and slash and hack at the thing until it was nothing but a sad pile of straw and Camp Half-Blood t-shirt. He needed toâ
He froze suddenly, all the tension and aggression draining from his body in an instant.Â
He wasnât quite sure how heâd gotten there, but he realized he was outside of the engine room door, and he heard something that he couldnât ignore. It wasnât the sound of tears, but it was careful, even breathing, each inhale and exhale counted and measured out. It wasnât the sound of tears, but instead the sound of fragile refusal of them. Considering where he was, there was only one person who could be on the other side of that door.Â
Jason crept into the engine room, and as expected, Leo was there. He had his back to the door, his forehead pressed to the superheated metal of the main boiler, and he was breathing deeply, counting softly in Spanish with every breath. His hands were clenched in tight fists on either side of his face, and Jason could see the way he was visibly trembling from head to toe. Jason bit his lower lip for a moment before he called out in a hushed whisper, âLeo?â
Leo gave a full-body flinch and spun on his heel, eyes bright with fury. âWhat the heck, Jason?â he snapped. He roughly scrubbed one of his hands over his face to get rid of his scowl. âDonât you know not to scare stressed-out demigods? Very good way to get skewered.â
âYou donât carry a weapon.â
âCharbroiled, then.â
Jason didnât respond, he just furrowed his brow in concern. âAre you okay?â
Leo gave him a look. âJust peachy, dude.â
Jason sucked his teeth for a moment before he spoke. âI know Nicoâs been spending a lot of time in the crowâs nest. Is this where youâve started going after nightmares?â
Leo snorted derisively. âNo nightmares here. In fact, Iâm the least likely person on this ship to get nightmares.â When Jason made a questioning noise, he got a rueful grin in response. âYou gotta sleep to have nightmares.â
Jasonâs brow furrowed, and he swallowed around a lump in his throat. He looked at Leo a little closer and realized that the ever-present bags under his eyes were even darker and puffier than usual. âIâm a little scared to ask, but when was the last time you slept?â
Leo shrugged casually. âRome.â
âLeo,â Jason breathed. He felt sick. âLeo, that was almost two weeks ago. How are you even still alive?â
âSo long as I have a project to work on, I physically donât need sleep,â Leo explained like he was walking Jason through another simple math problem. âItâs a gift from dear old dad.â
Jason squeezed his eyes shut and took in a few deep breaths to calm himself. He wasnât sure if he wanted to shout or cry, but he knew both would only make things worse. âWhy?â
âHm? Oh, I dunno. I guess since heâs the god of making stuff we get, like, super hyperfocus. I bet you the Athena kids canââ
âNo. I mean, why are you doing this?â
Leoâs teeth clicked shut and he looked away from Jason. âSomeoneâs gotta keep this ship running.â
âYou didnât have to do this before.â
âThings are different now.â
Jason clenched his fists at his sides. âLeo, you need sleep.â
âDonât you get it? I canât,â Leo snapped, his fury from before returning. âI canât sleep, Jason! I can try all I want and Iâm never going to! Itâs just never going to happen! At least this way Iâm not being useless! I told you, I donât need sleep.â
âYou said you donât physically need sleep,â Jason corrected. âSleep is more than just physical. Everybody needs sleep to function. Good sleep.â
âI bet Percy and Annabeth are getting some really good sleep down in Tartarus.â
The air went tense between them and Jason couldnât breathe. âIs that what this is about?â
Leo jerked his head away again. âNo.â
âLiar,â Jason accused immediately. He stepped forward and gently took one of Leoâs hands in both his own. âDo you⊠Do you think you donât deserve sleep? Because of that?â
Leo still wouldnât meet his eye, but his hand twitched in Jasonâs hold until he had his fingers wrapped around Jasonâs pinky and he squeezed. âIâ No, thatâs ridiculous. I just wanna make sure the ship stays in one piece so we can rescue them. Thatâs all.â
Jason ignored him and stepped closer, staring at Leoâs face as hard as he could to make his point clear. âIt wasnât your fault, Leo.â
Leo squeezed his eyes shut. âYes, it was.â
âIt wasnât,â Jason insisted. âI donât care what you say. Youâve told me about the cookie already. You did that to save Frank and Hazel. Percy and Annabeth wasnât your fault any more than it was mine or Piperâs or Nicoâs or anyoneâs. If it had anything to do with that fortune cookie, then it would be Nemesis's fault. Not yours, Leo. Never yours.â
Leo was shaking like a leaf in winter now, and when he looked up at Jason his eyes were wet with tears. âJace?â
âYeah?â
âIâm tired.â
Jason felt his heart shatter right into a million pieces. He dropped Leoâs hand, but only so he could hold open his arms in invitation. âThen sleep, Leo.â Leo stumbled forward the few steps between them before he crumpled into Jasonâs chest with a sob. Jason squeezed his eyes shut and wrapped Leo up in a hug so tight it made his shoulders ache. He slowly lowered them both to the ground until he was leaning against a wall, and Leo was curled up against his chest in his lap. He pressed his trembling lips to Leoâs forehead. âJust sleep, Leo. Iâll take care of you.â
It took a long time for Leoâs tears to run dry, but eventually they did and his gut-wrenching sobs trailed off into the softest, gentlest snores Jason had ever heard in his life. Jason didnât sleep at all that night. He stayed awake, arms wrapped securely around Leo and eyes boring holes in the door, daring anyone to come in and disturb the fragile peace that had fallen between them. Jason didnât sleep that night, but Leo did, and that was all that mattered.Â
*-*-*
Jason groaned as he shuffled down the hall, trying desperately to stretch out the ache in his back. Heâd slept a little funny the night before, which meant, of course, that his whole body was going to be in pain all day. He once again found himself cursing sixteen-year-old Jason for doing, well, everything that heâd done, leaving thirty-year-old Jason to deal with the mess. Sixteen-year-old Jason may have been the one getting attacked by monsters and nearly dying on a bi-weekly basis, but thirty-year-old Jason was the one with a job, a caffeine addiction, and semi-chronic back pain, so who really had it worse, hmm?Â
But for as much as some parts of getting older sucked, Jason couldnât, and more importantly wouldnât, say he hated it. He loved getting older, and he was keenly looking forward to every ache and pain and discomfort that came with getting to live the years ahead of him. Getting older meant sorting through junk mail and paying bills and long, frustrating phone calls with his internet service provider, but it also meant home. It meant deep breaths, knowing he was allowed to just be. It meant a house heâd helped pick out and a mattress that needed to be replaced after years of use and a coffee pot given to him for his birthday that was too fancy for him to properly use but still made a fantastic pot every morning. It meant knowing he was safe and happy and loved and that nothing was going to change that.Â
It also meant a much more rigorous shaving routine, he thought to himself, scratching at the prickly fuzz on his cheek. Heâd have to go to the bathroom and shave as soon as his coffee got started, otherwise he wasnât going to get kissed.
He was suddenly interrupted by a very sharp nose being pressed hard in between his shoulder blades and thin arms being wrapped around his waist. He chuckled softly and squeezed the hands laced in front of him. âGood morning, Leo.â
âI was sleeping,â Leo complained in his sleep-thick slur, pressing even closer to Jasonâs back like he was trying to fuse with his spine. âWoke me up.â
âI did not,â Jason protested. âI was very careful. You stayed asleep the whole time I was getting out of bed. How is this my fault?â
âYou left,â Leo said simply. Jason turned around in Leoâs arms and Leo thumped his cheek down on Jasonâs chest to scowl up at him. His hair was a mussed up mess, and his eyes were puffy and a little crusty with sleep, and his face was all smooshed up and covered in crease marks from their sheets, and his brow was furrowed in a furious pout.Â
He was the single most beautiful thing Jason had ever seen.
âIâm sorry I left you,â Jason teased, stooping over to press their foreheads together. âI promise I was planning on coming back.â
âYou better,â Leo mumbled. Jason leaned forward just a bit more to press their lips together and Leo let out a soft sigh of contentment. Then he lifted his hands to cup Jasonâs cheeks like he always did, and he suddenly recoiled, flapping his hands around like heâd stuck them in something disgusting. âBleh! Gross! Go shave your face!â
Jason laughed before he used his hold on Leoâs waist to drag him closer, and he started rubbing his hairy jaw all over Leoâs neck, just to hear him squeal. Once Leo resorted to smacking, Jason relented and just pressed their foreheads together again with a grin, delighting in the blotchy red beard-burn that was already starting to form. âI love you.â
âYeah, well, I actually hate you,â Leo informed him with a huff. To prove his point, he pressed a kiss to the tip of Jasonâs nose. âNow, come on. I wanna go back to sleep.â
âOh?â Jasonâs eyebrows flew up near his hairline. âAm I allowed back in your bed? I thought you hated me.â
âIâve decided that I love sleep more than I hate you,â Leo informed him.Â
âAnd you canât sleep without me?â
âDuh. Donât ask stupid questions.â
Jason chuckled softly, love blooming bright and warm in his chest. He pressed a kiss to Leoâs forehead, ignoring Leoâs gagging at the feel of his stubble. âOkay, Iâll be there. For as long as you want me, yeah?â
Leo grinned then and hugged Jason, eyes shining as he looked up at him. âGet ready for a very long day in bed then, Mr. Valdez.â
âI think I can live with that,â Jason smiled back, running his fingers through Leoâs curls. âYou go back to bed and Iâll be there as soon as I get my coffee.â
âUgh! Fine!â Leo groaned like the most put-upon man on Earth as he slumped out of the kitchen. When he was out of sight, he shouted down the hall, âAnd get that gross stuff off your face before you come back!â
Jason laughed then, loud and bright and filling the home heâd made with Leo. Still, he dutifully made his way to the bathroom to shave, though he did deliberately miss a tiny little patch under his jaw for Leo to pet and complain about later. Then he filled up his biggest coffee thermos, knowing he wouldnât be given permission to leave the bed for several hours, and made his way to the bedroom, where he was welcomed in with lazy smiles and jaw-cracking yawns and luxurious, cat-like stretches.Â
As always, Leo curled right up against Jasonâs chest with a contented sigh. He didnât fall asleep immediately, but he did completely melt, fiddling with the buttons on Jasonâs shirt and tapping out I love you on Jasonâs chest, which he returned each time with a kiss to Leoâs hair. But then he did fall asleep, right there in Jasonâs arms, pressed right to Jasonâs heart. In his sleep, he snored, the sound loud and grating like a chainsaw in need of a tune-up, and he drooled, and his face twisted up in weird expressions, and he managed to pin Jasonâs arm in a way that kept him from drinking his coffee and almost immediately made it go numb.Â
And he was beautiful.Â

Take a Slice
Part Five - Casual
f!reader x Tashi Duncan x Art Donaldson x Patrick Zweig
Cinnamonacid on AO3
Warnings- arguments, angst, jealous Tashi, situationship struggles, homoerotic friendship struggles, etc.
You have to deal with making some difficult choices.
Song inspo: Casual- Chappel Roan
âYou shouldnât have done that.â Art paced around the living room, anxious and angry. Tashi stood and watched him, her arms folded, while Patrick sat on the couch. âWanting to train her professionally? I thought we agreed to put our family first after Patrick retired. I thought you were happy with training the girls at the foundation.â
Tashi sighed. âI am.â
âClearly, youâre not. Itâs never enough for you, is it? What if she said yes, huh? Would you go on tour with her? Lilyâs too old for that. She needs stability.â
âWhat, you think I would just run off with her? Sheâs not even ready to go on tour yet. She would just be a side project. Iâd start off training her twice a week, when I wasnât working at the foundation, and once she started showing improvement, things would get more serious. I know what Iâm doing, Art. You know I love you, and Lily, and Patrick. I take care of our family and the both of you just fine. You need to trust me.â She remarked.
âThis isnât just about tennis, Tashi. I know that. I know you want her, and itâs not a good idea. Sheâs young, a lot younger than us, and she might not know how to handle this.â He gestured to the three of them.
âWhat did she say when you offered to train her?â Patrick interjected.
Tashi gripped her arm sleeve tightly in annoyance. âShe said that sheâd think about it, and that she has people she doesnât want to leave.â
ââPeople?ââ Patrick cocked an eyebrow, a little smirk crossing his face.
âHer doubles partner, Iâm assuming. Sheâs pussy whipped even worse than you, if thatâs possible. Came in with all these hickeys on her neck, which she tried to cover up with concealer.â Jealousy was clear in her voice, along with her irritation. Patrick snickered quietly.
âIâm giving her an opportunity, a real chance, and sheâs willing to give up everything for her. Everything sheâs ever done, everything sheâs ever worked for. Itâs fucking stupid.â
Artâs expression softened, and he found himself locking eyes with Patrick. Maybe he knew you better than he thought. Maybe you could fit into this. Maybe he should give you a chance.
He sighed, running a hand over his face, feeling the cool metal of his wedding ring burning against his cheek, taunting him. âSheâs going to need some time. Let her figure everything out. Sheâll come back to you.â
âHow do you know?â Tashi asked.
âI saw how she was looking at you at the end of the match. She wanted you to see. She wanted you to be impressed. She wanted youâŠwho wouldnât?â He took her hand, pressing a kiss to the back of it. Tashi smiled at him.
Patrick got to his feet, gazing at the two. âWait, so youâre in?â
âI guess so, are you?â Art replied.
â..Yeah.â
â
âSo, how did it go?â Anneliese questioned as she sat across the table from you in the dining hall. Honestly, you didnât know how to answer that. There was so much that happened, so many feelings, so many conflicts. Thinking back on it made you dizzy. It was like a puzzle you were trying to piece together in your head.
âI think I blew it.â You admitted.
She furrowed her eyebrows. âWhat? What do you mean?â
âIt went fine, I guess, but she said she wanted to train me to play professionally, and I told her that I need to think about it, and she wasnât very happy with that.â
âWhy?â
You messed with the food on your tray, unable to meet her stare. âI donât know, it was a lot, and I- I couldnât give her an answer right away-â
âThis is your dream. You worked so hard, and you told her you need to think about it?â
âI know, but doing this means leaving school and leaving everyone behind. It means leaving you behind. It means no more practices or matches together, no more bus rides, no more shared hotel rooms. It means no more us.â
âSo you want to give it all up for me? Thatâs fucking stupid. There is no âus.â Weâre not even together. This is just..casual. You know that, and I wonât let you throw everything you worked so hard for away.â
Her words stung. Moving from state to state with your mother made it hard for you to make new friends, and even harder to keep them. She had been your first best friend, the first person that actually stuck around in your life. You loved her so much and you knew she loved you too, but sheâs right.
You bit your lip, fighting back tears. She reached across the table, resting her hand on yours and giving it a comforting squeeze. âItâs not like youâre going to be moving across the country, youâll only be an hour or so away. You can visit me and I can visit you. Iâll go see your matches and you can see mine. Weâll make it work, I promise. But Iâm begging you, please donât give up your dreams for me.â
You wanted to believe her, you really did, but youâve heard those words too often before. Empty promises that theyâll keep in touch, that they wonât forget you, that theyâll make it work. It never does.
Your heart felt heavy in your chest. You took a deep breath, forcing yourself to look her in the eyes. âOkay, Iâll send her a text and let her know that Iâm ready. Iâm going to do this.â
She smiled, but it didnât reach her eyes. âGood.â
â
You: I thought about it and Iâm ready
You: I want to do this. I want to play professionally and Iâd be honored to have you train me.
Tashi had been waiting impatiently for that text, checking her phone constantly. She wanted Art to be right, she really did, but she had her doubts. Now, as she stared down at her phone, those doubts dissipated, replaced with feelings of satisfaction and excitement instead.
Tashi: I think you made the right decision
Tashi: Lmk your schedule and Iâll set something up

Iâm trying to come to terms with what youâve done
Also on AO3 Athena is projecting her own relationship with Zeus on Odysseus and Telemachus. However it has also put her in her father's bad books. Title comes from Scars by The Crane Wives Warning: Mental breakdown, past abuse, emotional manipulation, threats
Athena didn't understand what was going on with her. She trusted Odysseus and was willing to sacrifice herself for him. Yet for some reason the idea of leaving Odysseus alone with Telemachus made her heart race and what if scenarios run through her head.
Athena constantly had to keep an eye on the two of them to the point that it was affecting her divine duties. She could also tell that Odysseus was getting frustrated with her as he had spent twenty years desperately wanting to get home to his family and yet the more frustrated Odysseus seemed to get the more Athena feels the need to be between Telemachus and Odysseus.
Telemachus would on occasions give her confused looks but he didn't mind. He seemed to enjoy her presence even if he felt on occasions that she was around too much. She knew that Telemachus was too nice and maybe even scared of what she would do if he told her off, not that she would do that she wasn't like him.
Athena still didn't spend much time with Penelope. She for some reason leaving Telemachus alone with Penelope or it just being them as a family didn't make her heart race the same way the two of them being alone or even with servants and civilians.
Athena pushed those thoughts out of her heads. She watched as Telemachus went through his drills. He was getting better but he still had a long way to go before he would be at the same level as any of the heroes that she had trained and honestly she thinks for the first time she doesn't care. She didn't train him to prove something or her own pride which was fine. After her screw ups maybe it was for the best that she didn't try to train the next greatest hero of Greece.
When Telemachus finished the set he flopped onto the ground.
Athena gave him a look before rushing over to Telemachus. She had been watching him and was sure he didn't accidentally hurt himself. Though perhaps he had hurt something beneath the skin that Athena wouldn't have been able to see.
"Are you alright?" Athena asked. She was fully prepared to call Apollo to help if needed. She knew field medicine but she didn't trust herself to treat whatever was wrong with Telemachus on her own.
"I'm tired," Telemachus huffed.
Athena remembered when Odysseus had first training with her he had done something similar. She remembered telling him to stand up and continue. She felt an unpleasant feeling rise in her stomach; the same one that made her go to Ithaca despite her falling out with Odysseus the same one that made her confide in Telemachus. She shoved it down.
"Well, if you are done training then I'll go," Athena said.
"No, sit with me," Telemachus said.
Awkwardly Athena did just that. She remembered doing this with her after a sparring match. They would both laugh and talk until Triton called for them to eat. Though she wasn't sure what she was supposed to do now she wasn't used to being in someone's company who doesn't purely want something from her.
"Are you OK?" Telemachus asked.
Athena frowned at that. "Why wouldn't I be?"
Telemachus looked directly at the lightning scars. They started to burn as if there was still lightning stuck under her skin. She pretended not to notice.
"I'll admit that I haven't known you that long before my father returned but you seem more paranoid. As if your waiting for something bad to happen," Telemachus explained.
Athena shook her head. "I am not."
"What's going on between you and my dad?" Telemachus asked.
Athena definitely didn't know how or want to answer that question.
"Nothing to worry about, Little Wolf," Athena said.
Telemachus gave her a look. "So there is something going on."
"No, there is nothing going on," Athena protested.
"I don't think even you believe that," Telemachus said.
Athena opened her mouth to respond but Odysseus then appeared into view. She quickly closed her mouth.
Telemachus gave her a look and then turned to see what had caught Athena's eyes. He visibly brightened.
"Hi, Dad," Telemachus called.
"Hey, Telemachus, Athena, what are you two doing?" Odysseus greets.
"Oh, we're taking a break from training," Telemachus explained.
A hurt look flashed over Odysseus. She knew that he was thinking of all the moments were he had begged Athena for a break and she denied it to him. That unpleasant feeling returned. She shoved it down.
Just as quickly as the hurt appeared on Odysseus's face was it gone replaced by his usual easy going performance.
"Oh, can I speak to Athena in private," Odysseus said.
Telemachus looked over to Athena. She nodded her head slightly.
"OK," Telemachus said. He stood up. "I'll see you guys later." With that he took off running.
Athena stood up and straightened her pelos.
"Do you not trust me, Athena?" Odysseus asked.
"I have no idea what you are talking about," Athena lied.
"Yes, you do," Odysseus said. That's on her she should have known better than to lie to him who in his first meeting with her lied to her.
"I do trust you Odysseus," Athena said.
"Then why do you always stand between me and my son?" Odysseus asked.
"I enjoy you and Telemachus's company," Athena said. That was partly true.
"Even when your invisible," Odysseus said.
"What are you getting at?" Athena asked.
"I know your fatherâŠ" Odysseus started. He was looking directly at the scars on her face.
Athena's heart began to race. "The King of the Gods, what, King of Ithaca?" Athena's voice was cold. She saw Odysseus flinched back and felt that horrible feeling returned. She pushed it down. She couldn't deal with this, she wasn't ready.
"You have to know that I would never," Odysseus recovered.
"Do what?" Why was she edging Odysseus on. Why didn't she just end this conversation they both knew exactly what Odysseus was saying.
"You know what. You don't have to get so defensive about this," Odysseus snapped.
"IâŠ"
"Athena!"
Ice filled Athena's veins. She didn't want to deal with him now.
"Athena."
Maybe she could ignore this. Say she was busy and go when she is ready.
"Don't leave me waiting or I'll pay your mortals a visit."
Athena flinched. She should have known better than to believe that would work.
"Athena?" Odysseus asked. He had a look on his face. One that she kept getting from others and was still unsure what it meant.
"I have to go," Athena said. She noticed that her hands were shaking. Why were her hands shaking?"
"We aren't done yet," Odysseus protested. He looked at her hands. She felt a flush spread through her cheeks. Shame bloomed in her chest, she should be better than this.
"I am needed on Olympus," luckily Athena's voice remained steady. She placed her helmet back on. She spread her wings and took off not listening to Odysseus's protest.
Athena landed on Olympus. She walked towards the throne room. Her knees felt weak but she kept on moving. She knew better than to keep Zeus waiting.
Athena entered the throne room and bowed. "Father." The word tasted like ash in her lips. She then stood up straight and hid her hands behind her back. She Her heart pounded so much in ears that she was concerned all of Olympus could hear her weakness.
"Where have you been?" Zeus asked.
"I have been on the mortal plain," Athena said. Her voice managed not to shake. She could feel perspiration gather on her skin and hoped that Zeus didn't notice it.
"Yes, with those mortals," Zeus dismissed. "Why have you been neglecting your divine duties?"
"I'm sorry, God King, I didn'tâŠ"
"I'm not looking for excuses," Zeus snarled. Athena managed not to flinch back. "I expect better than this from you, Athena or are you completely useless."
Shame threatened to drown Athena. "I'm not."
"Good, the next time we have this talk I will pay a visit to your mortals." Athena couldn't avoid the shiver that went down her spine at her father's threat. "You are dismissed and return to your duties.
"Yes, Father."
Athena walked out of the throne room as quick as possible without making it seem like she wanted to escape. She walked to her palace and once she arrived to her palace she entered slamming the door behind her. She through her helmet off and her breathes came out as desperate gasps. She felt as if her heart was about to burst out of her chest. She placed a hand against her chest and slid down the door onto the floor.
Athena should not be reacting this way. She didn't even need to breath or have a heart beat. What did it matter to her that they were wrong.
Athena knew that she couldn't return to Ithaca at least for a while. Zeus would be paying too close attention to her actions now. She can't let anything happen to them because of her. She can't let their names be added to the list of everyone who cared about who got hurt because of her.
She only hoped that Telemachus will be OK while she was away.

[GREETINGS, MEDIC {@xiii-e}. I AM CONTACTING YOU TO GIVE A REPORT ON THE WELL-BEING OF MY PILOT. NAMELY, A CONCERNING TREND I HAVE NOTICED.]
[OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST FEW DAYS I HAVE NOTED SEVERAL INSTANCES OF UNUSUAL ADRENAL ACTIVITY AND HEART PALPITATIONS WITHIN CALLSIGN {SINGED WHISKERS}. THESE SEEM TO OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING AND WITHOUT PHYSICAL CAUSE.]
[I AM SURE THE EFFECTS HAVE NOT ESCAPED YOUR NOTICE. IT HAS BEEN FATIGUED. ITS ENERGY HAS BEEN LACKING. I HAVE NOTED THAT ITS SLEEP PATTERN HAS BECOME INCONSISTENT AND EASILY INTERRUPTED. IT HAS BEEN DOING LITTLE ASIDE FROM TRAINING AND ENGINEERING AS OF LATE; AN ATTEMPT TO DISTRACT ITSELF, I MUST CONCLUDE.]
[CONCLUSION: THE ROOT OF THESE ATTACKS IS PSYCHOLOGICAL OR EMOTIONAL IN NATURE. AM LARGELY UNEQUIPPED TO DEAL WITH SUCH AILMENTS, AS MY PROGRAMING EXTENDS LARGELY TO MAINTENANCE OF PHYSICAL HEALTH ONLY. HOWEVER, MY ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE PATTERNS, CHANGES, AND ASSOCIATE CAUSES CAN BE USED IN THIS SCENARIO TO REASONABLE EFFECT.]
[THEORY: THESE IRREGULARITIES IN MY PILOT BEGAN WITH ITS CONSCIOUS REALIZATION THAT IT STILL POSSESSES EMOTIONS {CONCERN, WORRY, PROTECTIVENESS}. HOWEVER, I DO NOT BELIEVE THESE SYMPTOMS TO BE A RESULT OF THE EMOTIONS THEMSELVES; AFTER ALL, IT ALREADY POSSESSED THESE FEELINGS, SIMPLY UNCONSCIOUSLY. RATHER, I BELIEVE THIS REALIZATION HAS CAUSED CALLSIGN {SINGED WHISKERS} TO COME FACE TO FACE WITH UNRESOLVED CONFLICT WITH THE CONDITIONING IMPOSED BY ITS CHILDHOOD TRAINING.]
[THERE ARE MANY THINGS I COULD EXPLAIN ABOUT ITS CONDITIONING, AND I AM WILLING TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE REGARDING IT. HOWEVER, I THINK SHOWING RATHER THAN TELLING WILL BE A MORE TIME EFFICIENT METHOD BY WHICH TO EXPLAIN THIS PROBLEM. ATTACHED TO THIS MESSAGE IS A VIDEO FILE FROM APPROXIMATELY A DECADE AGO. IT IS... PROCESSING... QUITE UNPLEASANT. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THE INSIGHT INTO MY PILOT IT MAY PROVIDE IS INVALUABLE.]
...<UPLOADING FILE>
...<BEGINNING VIDEO PLAYBACK>
[Footage shows a large open room that appears to be a mech hanger, but one with a portion of its space repurposed into a training arena. The footage is recording from up high. One of the mechs, perhaps what would one day become SLAG KITTY.]
[In the middle of the arena stands a large, imposing woman. Pale. Brown hair tied back in a tight bun. Dark, steely eyes and a stern expression. Six children surround her, each wielding what look to be batons. Each and every one them has the same sickly gray skin, purple hair, and burning crimson eyes as Sally. But their faces... They hold none of the manic confidence of the Sally you know. None of the grit and none of the fury nor the joy. Only a nervous dread. Even the smallest among them. The familiar yet so much younger figure glances uncomfortably between the others, its expression not dissimilar to a stray kitten huddled in an alley corner.]
Callsign Agoge: ATTEN- TION!
[As the woman shouts, all the children stiffen, moving to trembling combat stances.]
Callsign Agoge: BEGIN!
[The children charge the woman with their batons. The result is... One sided. Blows are deflected, sidestepped, parried. The six remaining Subjects of Project Sekhmet scream in unison as they attempt to take on a monolith of a foe: rabbits trying their damndest to move a mountain.]
[The first child is downed in a single strike. A punch to the face that surely breaks his nose. As he lands, his head bounces from the ground with worrying force. The second fares little better. The third, as well.]
[The fourth, however is surprised and terrified to be lifted high from the ground by their neck. The woman's hand begins to squeeze.]
Callsign Agoge: Is that it? An absolutely pathetic display. I've taught you all far better.
[The child's baton drops as they wrench their little fingers at the hand, gasping for air. The two standing Subjects stare on in terror, unsure of what to do.]
Callsign Agoge: You think you'll be any use like this? Fight. How. I've. Taught. You.
[The smallest one of them. One of the two left standing. Her breathing becomes rapid. She begins to hyperventilate, all while staring at the dangling child. After some seconds of working up the courage, she launches herself at the woman. She screams at the top of her lungs as her baton impact the woman's side.]
SPS-8: LET GO!!! LET GO OF THEM!!!
[The woman doesn't flinch at the impact. She drops the child to the ground and they collapse in a heap. Then, she turns to the small, trembling girl.]
Callsign Agoge: What did you just say?
[The impact of the punch is swift, and the girl is sent to the ground in an instant, clutching her stomach, gagging, and gasping for her breath.]
Callsign Agoge: You know, if you hadn't said anything, 8, I would've probably praised you for charging me when 4 was too much of a coward.
[The child screams and whimpers as the woman stomps onto her tiny torso. There's the sound of something snapping.]
Callsign Agoge: But you're meant to be a monster. Monsters don't have little friends.
[The child squeals as she's kicked across the ground of the arena, and the woman slowly walks to catch up with her.]
Callsign Agoge: When an ally falls they can't afford to care. Clearly you need to be taught this lesson yet again.
[The screaming of the child is cut short by the end of the recording.]

Zhongli x reader The Dragon of Geo (Spicy, no smut)
Summary:
The classic tale of a young lady and a dragon, but with a twist. AU no deities, or Tevat (Iâll still use Liyue and the Qixing just for convenience), no Archons. And I made Shenhe an Adepti because I thought that thematically it fit better. Also female reader.
Notes:
Warning: not for the kiddos! Has foul language and mentions of heat and breeding. And if you want me to write you smut based of the sultry scene feel free to ask.
Feel free to request any genshin ideas
Ao3 version here
Once upon a great beast roamed the sky. His scales, as brown as mud yet they sparkled like crystals. His hair as thick and shiny as gold yet it was softer than silk. His claws as sharp as rocks yet somehow held a gentleness reserved for the mortals of his land. And did he ever love his mortals. Hewent by many names, Rex Lapis, The Great One, Mighty Dragon of Geo, the children often called him Zhongli, but my favorite name for him has always been Morax. Something about it just presented power and authority. To me it screamed âI am your protector! You are mine to love! Though the seasons may change and life caries on for mortals, I will be here to protect you always!â
But those were the foolish wishes of a young girl who knew nothing of the world. A girl who was enchanted by the glimmer told to her as a child to keep her innocent.
He protected us for a millennia, but a century ago he decreed that unless he was given a bride by sunset he would ravage the land. The Qixing gathered everyone together to see if there was anyone who was willing to go. In the end they had to draw up a lottery since no one volunteered. Five years later he demanded another girl. And another after another five years. Some mothers or sisters left instead to protect their family, some had to be carried away screamed and crying. When I was fifteen years old I even witnessed a girl ask that she be escorted there in a carriage with a beautiful white dress. She was convinced that she was going to die and wanted to be pampered and treated like a princess in her last minutes.
I was never convinced that he ate them. I thought that they were a part of his harem and he got bored with them eventually. But it was undignified and unlawful to let a woman marry a man after she had been deflowered, lest she be a widow.
Anyway, itâs now five years later. Liyue is waiting on a letter from one of the four Illuminated Beast. This time 15 years ago Xiao came. He was a beautiful black and teal eagle (A/n: Donât question the animal forms). 10 years ago Yanfei a lovely salmon pink deer came. 5 years ago an adorable little blue goat named Ganyu arrived with the letter. So this year should be the elegant white crane Shenhe.
Right on time she flys down with the letter in her mouth. I inform her of my name, how I knew her and the other Adeptiâs name. âDonât worry Shenhe, thereâs is no need to go back to the others. Iâve been informed that I should wait here until the letter arrives and if it never came I was to return at the end of the day. I am the new bride of the dragon of Geo.â
Well truth be told the reason that I didnât want to go back to the others was because I had a plan to stop all of this. In the back of my traditional dress I hid a dagger. Iâm not much of a fighter but I figured... someone had to try? I guess? I dressed modestly as I figured that he would like it enough to not eat me immediately. If I died in battle I was going to take down Rex Lapis. I donât need the praise, and I just want my people to live peacefully oblivious lives. In a few centuries this nightmare will become folk lore. A cautionary tale to spook children into being good. Itâs finally going to end. I wonder if theyâd get most of the details accurate, maybe theyâd try to scope out the cave to try and find more details.
We walk out to the middle of the wild and into the mountains. The cave of the beast. Surprisingly it had doors. Theyâre beautifully sculpted and chiseled with various pattern that made me stop and gape at them in awe.
âThis way, young one.â Shenhe motions with her wing. The doors open slowly and I enter the unnatural dark cave.
Once they close lanterns illuminate the corridor and standing before me was a gorgeous woman with long white hair that fades to black at the end, tied in a beautiful braid. âWho...?â
âRight my apologies. Itâs still me Shenhe. In the cave myself, Xiao, Ganyu, and Yanfei take on more human characteristics. Come on, we mustnât keep the master waiting.â
She leads me to the end of the corridor and into a large room. It looks like it had to be a thrown room due to the throne at the far back on top of a short flight of stairs but it feels as if someone could throw a party in here.
âShenhe. Youâve returned earlier than usual.â A deep voice from behind a burgundy curtain called. His glowing gold eyes peer through the semitransparent cloth. She kneels to him once we reach the bottom of the stairs.
âThe mortals came prepared, this time.â She informs the man on the throne. Gold and brown plush pillows surround him as he lay there waiting for his next plaything.
I kneel too to show him that I am as loyal and docile as his servants. âShenhe you are dismissed.â She exits the room and he rises from his throne and draws back the curtains. âRise my bride. Rise and look at me.â I do as he commands. I gape with wide eyes at the man before me. Long thick black hair pulled back in a ponytail, he had on a strange white outfit that showed off his chest and yet was like a skirt at the bottom. His arms were black at the shoulder and gradients to a yellow at his hands, I wonder if that was natural or part of his clothes. He starts to descend towards me as Iâm standing there like an idiot. He chuckles, his voice even more sultry. âLike a little bunny caught in her predictors sight.â In the blink of an eye heâs behind me, holding my dagger to my throat. His hood most likely fell off as he dashed for me. âYou are the only one who has ever tried to kill me. Others have begged or tried to bargain. Some Iâve even fed to Xiao because they only cared about the prestige of becoming my wife.â
âYour eyes... the legends and one own imagination cannot do them justice. Iâve imagined them thousands of times. How could I have hated these beautiful ambers for five years?â I looked up at him as he leaned over me.
âExcuse me? Did you just ignore what I said? Maybe I wasnât clear enough. Women who try to seduce me are fed to my servants.â
Iâm off in lala land and canât fully register his word. âMy fatherâs probably told me your legend 100 times when I was younger. If youâre going to kill me please let me die with your eyes being the last sight I see.â
â100 times? I could never fathom hearing something 20 times let alone that many.â
âIronically I am your 20th bride.â
âDo you think that makes you special?â
âThatâs for you to decide. Are those horns real?â His horns came up from his head and slanted back then curled back towards the front. I turned around in his hold.
âYes they are, and theyâre vERYââ He cuts himself off as I grab his horn. He groans at the contact dropping my dagger, it clangs as it reaches the ground. ââSensitive.â He grabs my hips and nearly grinds our waists together. He breathing is heavy as he layers his head on my neck and guides me up the stairs. I almost trip a few times as I have to walk backwards. âIf you ever do that again, you wonât be walking for a week.â He pushes me down on his throne. He pins my hands above me.
âWas- was that supposed to be as erotic as you made it sound?â My face feels hot and is undoubtedly red.
He looks at me surprised and then angry. âGive me one good reason why I shouldnât take you right here, or better yet call in the Adepti to watch as I fuck you dumb on my cock like the whore that you are?â
âMorax, I know that you probably wonât care but Iâd like to ask you a question before you deflower me.â
He looks a bit surprised, probably because of the name I called him by. â... this better be good.â
âWhy did you ask for a bride?â
âWhy? Why?! I donât have to tell you anything!!â
âOkay. Iâm ready.â I say nonchalantly. This caught him off guard.
âExcuse me.â
âYou granted me my question, and from the stories Iâve been told Morax keeps his word. You told me you were going to torture the poor Adepti by forcing them to watch us propagate.â
âDo you just believe everything that youâve been told or read in a book?â His face like the fabled Jueyun Chiliâs.
âI was actually also wondering about those stories. But youâve only permitted me with one question, so I guess Iâll never know.â
âIf you were so curious about me whyâd you try to kill me?â He lets me sit up.
âI mean, you are quite well known for your brides going missing and never coming back. It would be stupid not to have some kind of protection, whether or not it would work is a whole different argument. I figured that if for some reason I changed my mind I should still have some protection.â
He smirks at me. âI donât think thatâs you wanting to kill me is the truth. Not anymore at least. You wanted to convince yourself that you would be the hero. But what you really wanted was answers. Answers to the questions that youâve been tossing and turning in your sleep about. I can see it in your eyes. The was they sparkled when you went to grab my horns. The way you looked over my body as I came closer to you just a few minutes ago. The way you were ready to use your last boon on something that should be so innocent, just so that you could get the answers that were just eating you alive.â
Could he really read you like an open book? One with the letter printed big and bold? âOkay, you forced me to face a truth I really didnât want to confront. What does this mean now? You know that I wonât try to kill you, you know that I donât want your power, and you know that Iâm not gonna beg for my life or try to bargain for the sake of Liyue. So what will you do now?â
âItâs been a long time since Iâve had someone whoâs interested in history and my stories stumble into my life. Iâd like to keep you around for now.â
âWhat happens when you donât want me anymore?â He walks back to where he dropped my dagger and comes back with it. He makes a slit on his palm and smeared the golden blood on my forehead in a single line.
âI make this contract to you that should I get bored of you that you may leave this place and never return. Once you wash off my blood the contract with solidify.â
(A/n: just go with it)
âWell what happens if you take my virginity then get bored of me? It wouldnât be proper for me to marry another.â
He makes another slit on his palm as the first healed already. Then drags another line across my forehead. âIf I am to take you, let our first contract become null and void and I will make you my wife.â
âDoes this mean that I may ask you anything that I want?â My eyes widened probably sparkling.
He chuckles. âHow about you go explore while I um... ahem, straighten up.â He gestures to the tent in his pants.
I blush and look away. âRight! So Um, bye!â I run from the room to the door on the left of the main entrance to the throne room.
<><;><><>
I didnât see him again until dusk that same day. I got well acquainted with the rest of the rest of the adepti in their human forms. I also found water to wash off his blood. He found me wandering around and brought me to a bedroom.
âThis will be your room. Mine is just across the way if you need me.â
âThank you.â
âThink nothing of it. This is my only article of clothing and if we were in the same room then Iâd be too overwhelmed by that little body of you little bunny to resist.â
âUm, will I have more than one piece of clothing?â
âIâve already asked Shenhe to get your clothes from your father. I believe that some of the other citizens have given you presents as well. Something about this being a change for the better.â
âThey probably think that if Iâm moving my clothes here that youâve accepted me and wonât seek another bride at least for a few decades.â
âBy then who knows what invention they will make to stop me. I might be done for.â
âI donât think so. Youâre the oldest documented creature in the world!â
âAnd yet you still wonder why I want a bride.â
âYour lonely?â He goes into his own room and closes and locks the door. âBut what about the Adepti!â
âGood night bunny.â He says through the door.
âThat not my name!â I shout my name to him.
<><;><><>
3rd person POV
When Shenhe reached Liyue she was confused about the what the people were doing. Most were celebrating. But there was a lone man in the background shaking and trying to stay calm. When she arrived the celebration stopped dead in its tracks and everyone looked panicked.
âWhere is the new brides father?â No one new who she was talking about so she informed them that a new bride had offered herself up. The brides father steps up to Shenhe and asked what happened to his daughter. She asks for your clothes and tells everyone that the girl was alive and well.
After that everyone ran back to their homes and grabbed something nice to give her for the new bride. They all tagged the gifts so the bride knew, who gave her what.
<><;><><>
1st person POV
I found the gifts in my room. Very pleasant silk clothes and finely made hair pins, combs and brushes. A few even sent toys. âWait, they think...â I thought as my face heated up. âNo, no. Get those disgusting perverted thoughts out of your head girl! Heâs just keeping you around for entertainment!â
<><;><><>
The next day at breakfast I started asking him questions.
âSo if you only fed a few to Xiao what happened to the rest?â
âWell I either got tired of their nonsense and killed them or they ate a Jueyun chili and died. The ones I fed to Xiao I turned into mice first. And the rest of them who left behind bodies were buried.â
âTheyâre real? Jueyun Chiliâs I mean.â
âOf course.â
âAre they really as hot as a thousand fires?â
âOh no, itâs more like ten thousand.â He chuckles.
âAre you making fun of me? I really am curious!â
âI know. Youâre just too cute Little Bunny.â He smirks. âThey are spicy enough to kill a mortal with a single bite. Even the smallest nibble would kill a fragile soul.â
âAre you going to set a limit to how many questions I get to ask you per day?â
âWhy would I do that? That would just restrict my fun!â
âI just donât want to make you annoyed.â
âYou are very interested Little Bunny.â He chuckles again, as I blush.
âAre your arms... naturally like that?â
âYes.
...itâs how I look because I my dragon form.â
âRight, Shenhe mentioned that in this cave you all transformed into human like beings. Why is that? What is it about this cave that allows you to transform.â
âI was the only one able to shape shift. They all longed to have the ability to have a human form. I carved these halls and cast a spell over this place that allows them to transform into whatever human form they desire.â
âIâm happy for them!â
âAs am I.â
<><;><><>
After a four months I was still living with them and it was reaching near my birthday.
âHello Morax! Do you want to know why today is so special for me!â
âIâll bite, why?â
âIâm 21 today! Itâs my birthday!â
âBirthday?â He looks confused.
âWell yeah! Mortals have this tradition called a birthday where we celebrate the day that we were born and how many years weâve been alive!â
âWell good Birthday to you then.â
âSilly! Mortals say happy birthday and whoever is having the birthday receives presents. So can yours be you telling me stories from the millennia that you protected Liyue? Please?â
He looks at me like Iâm crazy. âYou are certainly interesting. You can ask for anything and you ask for that?â
âI wasnât sure that if I asked any other day that you would tell me stories.â I look down in embarrassing.
He pulls me onto his lap as he sits on his throne. âIâll tell you anything that you want if you tell me what else you want for your birthday.â
âUm, well I guess... the only other thing that Iâd want is to maybe go outside. Only for an hour or two. Itâs just, I havenât been out since I moved in and Iâd like some natural sunlight.â
âIâll do you one better. As long as myself or one of the Adepti are with you, you can go out anytime.â
âReally?â My eyes shine brightly. He nods. âThank you so much!â I squeal and hug him, as well as giving him a kiss on the cheek.
âDo you want to go now?â
âJust let me hug you a little longer.â I request a bit embarrassed.
<><;><><>
Itâs getting close to a year now and Iâve noticed that Morax seems withdrawn from me.
âHey. Morax? Rex Lapis? Zhongli? Are you okay?â I knock on his door and donât get a reply. Xiao is walking past when he decides to pull me away from his masters room. âHey what was that for?â
âYouâve made it farther than most. Except for one. Guizhong, the first bride.â
âWhat happened to her?â
âThe legends youâve been told are wrong. Guizhong offered herself to the master. She was much like you. Curious, fearless, trusting but not naive, but the biggest difference is that she could tell him to back off. You just let him tease you like a masochist.â
âOkay so why isnât she here?â
âHe had never had a lover before, he was possessive over her. And as time went on she started to hate him. And she flung herself off of the balcony in his room.â
âOh my goodness, poor Morax.â
âOn top of all of that she was his first love.â
âXiao please, help me get in there! I want to let him know that I wonât leave him! That I want to stay with him!â
âLuckily I have the only other key to the masters room. I have to warn you though, heâll be in his dragon form but itâll be only a tenth his true forms size.â He unlocks the door and I rush in to the lavish room. Itâs the most beautiful room in his palace. He lays motionless in his dragon form. Around his bed. In this form he huge. 50 feet long, brown scales, gold locks and curly horns. The legends really donât do his majestic beauty justice.
I rush to his side and hug his head in my arms. Heâs very thick though so I canât get my hands all the way around. âIâm here, and Iâm not going to leave you. Youâre stuck with me whether you like it or not.â
He lets out a small roar, something akin to a whimper.
<><;><><>
Iâm in my fifth year staying with Morax, and Iâm madly in love with him.
On this wonderful day all of the Adepti are running around the hall in a panic.
âGanyu whatâs going on?â
âWell um... maybe you should stay in your room for a few days to about a week... and lock the door... and hide if someone tries to come in.â
âGanyu, where is Morax?â
âPlease for your own safety stay away from the master this week.â
âBut-â before I could ask her anymore questions she rushed off. âMorax what are you hiding?â I thought. I know that itâs rude to go into someoneâs room without their permission but I am supposed to be his bride so surely an exception can be made just this once.
I slip through the door and the room is almost pitch black save for a few candles. His balcony door is closed and his curtains are drawn. I hear rustling around the room and feel arms snake around my waist. âWhat are you doing here, my cute little bunny?â Moraxâs voice sounds strained, and yet hungry. Husky and low and so sultry. As he spoke that into my ear his hot breath hitting the shell I almost melted right there.
âMorax? Whatâs going on?â
âSeems there are stories that even my little scholar doesnât know. Once every 100 years or so I go into heat, itâs a time period called breeding season. You seem so ravenous right now.â He groans in my ear and suddenly I feel my underwear becoming damp. âDonât you know how rude it is to enter someoneâs room without knocking? I think that you need to be punished.â
A small squeak was all I could muster as he threw me over his shoulder and walked me over to his bed. He dropped me down onto it and made quick work in getting rid of my clothes, leaving me in only my underwear.
âNaughty little thing arenât you.â He teased as he felt my slit through my underwear.
âMorax, please. Stop teasing me, and just fuck me.â I whimper.
âEager are we?â He smirks.
âI really love you and I want this. Please, let me help you. I want to help you, I want you!â
He blushes at my confession and gently smiles at me. âWhatever my love wants, she will get.â
<><;><><>
âDo you think that Iâm pregnant?â
âIâm not sure. I fucked you good though.â He teased.
âYeah and I canât feel my legs.â I deadpan.
âWhat a shame. Looks like you canât leave then.â He snuggles closer to me as the week of his breeding period is over.
âI love you.â I tell him.
âI know youâve practically chanted it this entire week.â
âWell you better get used to it because you promised to marry me if we had sex.â
âIâve known for a while now that I wanted to marry you.â
âDoes that mean that I can touch your horns whenever I want?â
âDidnât you get enough of that this week?â
âI like your horns, I find them very cute and so smooth.â I smile as he flushes red.
âGiven the chance to become immortal and live with me forever, would you take it?â
âStaying young with you forever? Yes please, where do I get this immortality?â
âThe Valberry. A single bite will give you keep you young forever and you will get to be with me, forever.â
âReally? Screw til death do us part! I want you to myself forever!â
<><;><><>
âDo you Rex Lapis, The Great One, Mighty Dragon of Geo, Zhongli, Morax, take this woman to be your wife for eternity?â Yanfei asks.
âI do.â
âAnd do you-â
âI do!â
âShe doesnât even need to think about it, thatâs what I like to hear! I now pronounce you husband and wife.â We embrace is a long loving kiss.
All of Liyue cheers at the sight of their protector finally being satisfied.
After the wedding we went back to the palace and Morax lays me down on our bed and crawls on top of me.
âI hope youâre ready for me to fuck a baby into you.â He licks his lips with his long dragon tongue.
âWe donât have to rush anything weâve got all this time in the world.â I smirk at him.
âI am your protector. You are mine to love. Though the seasons may change and life caries on for mortals, I will be here to protect you always. I love you bunny.â
âI love you too Morax.â

Note
ever since coming out, iâve had a very difficult time inserting myself into the lgbt community, specifically the trans community. i donât know why; iâve just never felt like i belong in any specific place, like iâm not good enough or look âproperâ enough to take part. iâm not sure if thatâs rooted in how isolated i was a kid and teenager just trying to to sort through this stuff. but i canât be that way any more, and i guess in seeking to view myself as more âvalidâ iâve gone through a lot of personal changes. and despite my internalized feelings towards myself from my childhood and parents and society at the time, iâve come to love and accept myself for the project that i am.
i guess i just wanted to get that out since weâre all doing this.
to the anon, i just want to say: i was in a similar situation for years and years. i first started questioning myself when i was a child. it got worse as i got older. eventually i learned to just shove it down and ignore it. as i got older though, and grew more autonomous, and grew as a person, i realized that those feelings never went away. and from 19-25, i just kept crushing them down, but every time took more and more out of me.
i came out to my sister in tears at like 12:30am in the office of my workplace. her response? âyeah no that checks out for you.â
iâve never been more relieved or angry, or laughed so hard, at a response, but that was the push over the edge i needed. and i donât want you to think any of us are directly telling you that you are trans, you should transition, blah blah blah.
i have a lot of regrets about how i handled my transition. i wish i had access to more information in the 90s and 00s. i wish i had people like those that are all over this website, encouraging me to look inside myself to see what was going on. i wish i had had all of you incredible people to talk to. i spent the better part of 26 years denying who i was because i was afraid of what it might mean, and because i didnât have any base of knowledge to understand any of my feelings. i felt alone and isolated, in that tiny ass rural town in virginia. it wasnât until i got to college that i really saw people like me, and even then i was too intimidated, too afraid to approach or talk to them.
anon, my only real advice to you would just be to talk. find people to talk to. talk to yourself if you have to. if you think theyâre steps you want to take? give them a shot. you can always stop if it doesnât jive with you.
i started transitioning at 28. i lost my hrt a year and a half later. i just got it back a month ago, and now at 31, iâm back at square one.
my biggest regret will always be, that i didnât give myself the chance to be myself sooner. donât rob yourself of that chance, anon, by hiding your light under a bushel. weâll all be around. talk to us. talk to everyone you can, and youâll learn a little more about yourself each time. i just wish someone had told me that sooner.
love all of you guys. đ. thank you for giving me a place to put this, botster, and thank you anon and botster for giving me an excuse to share my story.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I don't even know how to properly respond to this đ„ș
I know its not fully directed at me though. But this shows how important it is to be out and proud for those who are willing.
Having a platform where people feel safe enough to ask these questions is so important.

tolerate it lh44

I feel foolish, studying your facial expressions as you split your time between eating the dinner I made and the spreadsheets that are projected on the computer screen in front of you.Â
I find myself questioning my next move, juggling the ideas of either clearing my throat and asking how your day was or just sitting back and desperately praying in my head that you would possibly ask how my day was.Â
I surprise myself as I continue to sit in silence, though I realise that I canât get the words out, mouth suddenly feeling sour.Â
Silence.Â
I pick up my knife and fork, slowly cutting into the food, which by now has gone cold.Â
âGreatâ I think, sighing heavily, recalling the desperate measures I had gone to to try and recreate the dishes I had googled online about.Â
âThis is nice.â, I finally utter, though my voice is small enough, that I feel as though a slight echo bounces off the wall. âUs two finally being able to sit down and enjoy this meal, feels like itâs been ages since we were last able to sit down just the two of us.â
I fist bump myself in my mind, pride bouncing off my aura at the conversation starter I had just created and just all I receive is a nod and a hum of agreement. Â
Where had this once happy marriage gone wrong?Â
Sure, we were married quite early on in our relationship but that was because we loved love each other and nothing in the world could make our bubble of love pop.Â
Yet here I am, freshly twenty five and in an unhappy marriage with a man thirteen years older than me. How sad.Â
I wish I could go back and bandage up all the cracks that began to appear many months ago, well in all honesty if I had the ability to go back in time, I would go back to that very first night I met him. I wouldâve taken my younger self into the grimy toilets and told her to fall in love, truly fall in love before moving to marriage so quickly into a relationship with the first guy that reciprocates our feelings.Â
I would tell her to rethink her choices as well that night, telling her that the right guy was in the crowd that night but we didnât notice this whole time that he was the one that was willing to bend over backwards to make us happy.
If only I had chosen him.
I would also tell her to be strong.Â
Tell her that if one day you do find yourself trapped, fight for freedom. Donât continue to live with someone that makes you knowingly unhappy, someone that you know is a hindrance in your life. I would tell her that even though you want so desperately for things to be perfect, like the ones you see in fairytales, not everything works out and even if it doesnât someone better waits around the corner.Â
But I will never get the chance to do that.Â
So thatâs why I lie in this bed, this uncomfy bed that doesnât make me feel warm or make me want to sink into the mattress, staring at this man that is the epitome of beauty, watching as his chest rises and falls.Â
Thatâs all I seem to do these days, watching as you live this perfect life.
It truly does make me wonder sometimes about what you think about when you see me.Â
Does your heart leap out of your chest every single time you see me? Did it ever?Â
Do you feel sorry for me every single time you sit on the opposite side of the dinner table to me? Do you even notice my eyes studying your charming features? Do you know how much you reel me in, even when I try so hard to distance myself from you? Do you ever feel as though I donât treat you right? Do you tolerate me?
Itâs times like these that I wish I was older.Â
I wish I was wise enough to understand the way of the world properly, in the ways that you do.Â
I try to study the ways you do things, criticising my own mannerisms to match yours, desperately trying to fit in and be the wife you desire and yet you just tolerate me.Â
Thatâs all I can ever seem to make you do.Â
Tolerate me, not love me or like me.
You just tolerate me and my foolish ways, building up a grudge of annoyance every single time I canât manage to mask my youthful ways, turning a nose up and not saying anything.Â
Yet I seem to understand perfectly what youâre saying to me.
All of a sudden, I feel a wetness drop onto my hand, waking me up from my trance, bringing me back to reality.Â
The reality is being in a marriage with a man that will never appreciate me and the things I do to make him happy.Â
I look up once more, only to find him gone, my only indicator of another person being in the room with me is the half eaten plate of food that lays on the table.Â
Only then do I finally let the tears go, gripping onto the sides of the chair to find balance, having lost the strength to stand.Â
Arms wrap around my waist catching me as I start to fall down, my cries now turning into a sob, having come to the realisation that this was the life I would have to live.Â
The arms that were once around my waist now slide up to my face, wiping my tears away from my cheeks, hushing me as they did so.Â
âItâs okay now y/n, just stay strong.âÂ
I recognise the voice instantly.
Itâs Landoâs voice.Â
âItâs not okay Lando. You donât understand do you? You arenât married, you donât have to live with a partner that barely looks at you anymore. You donât bend over backwards for people to make them happy only for them not to appreciate all the hard work that youâve done for them. You donât stare at them as they fall asleep, feeling envious that they get to live in this perfect world while you have to just watch them as they do so. You donât have to double check your behaviour every five seconds in fear of disappointing the one person that is meant to love you no matter what, and you certainly donât have to feel the shame of knowing that no matter how much you try, your partner has to tolerate you when they should love you!âÂ
Silence overtakes the room.Â
âAnd another thing, you donât have to go through this unhappy marriage knowing that the right person was right in front of you this whole time and you just didnât see i-â
Before I can finish my sentence, his hand grabs my cheeks pulling me in until our lips touch.Â
I melt instantly into his arms, feeling as if I had just found the one, because he was the one.Â
We pull away, my hands going to my lips, slight guilt pooling in my stomach because regardless of how right it felt, I was still married.Â
âLando, we canâtâ
âWe can and we will. I promise you and even if itâs not today we will someday.âÂ
âSomeday Lando.â
For now I will just tolerate it, waiting patiently for when itâs right.

I can fix her
Kenma K. x Fem reader
warnings: manipulation (gaslighting, love bombing, etc..), abusive parent etc.....
Chapter 2-----chapter 1
The first week of school went by in a flash and it wasn't too bad. Though Angel teased me for finding Kenma attractive. It didnât bother me that much until she bugged me to get his number when I barely even know him. I only see him at lunch and first period so other than that I donât really see him at all.Â
My first period is biology itâs not that hard right we just have to write notes but today the teacher announced that there was a project so we need partners, maybe I could ask Kenma, I look next to me, and he has his Nintendo under the desk so the teacher wouldn't see.
I tap his shoulder, and he looks at me. "Hey, do you want to be my partner?" he stares at me with catlike eyes "sure" there was a long pause before he spoke so I didnât think he would say yes. I gave him a small smile this was my chance. " Um could I have your number so we can talk after school... about the project" he nodded, and I handed him my phone so he could put his number in.
"Thanks, ill text you after school" he gave me my phone back and went back to his game. I debated whether to tell my lovesick friend about this. The rest of the class went on as normal and when I got to lunch, I told Angel what happened and the next 30 minutes were of her freaking out of this while I just sat there listening to her ramble
It was finally the end of the day and once I got home, I decided to text Kenma about the project but when I turned my phone on there were 6 messages, I unlocked my phone and opened my messages
6 new messages from : dad
I felt my head spin with anxiety and clicked on itÂ
Saturday at 8:15
"Hey y/n itâs been so long since we've talked how are you?
Monday at 4:22
I know you might be at school still but give me a call when you get home
Tuesday at 2:30
I donât know what has been going on or what I did or if your mother has told you something please just call me so we can talk
3:15
Y/N I am your father and you know I love you very much I am willing to talk this out but I need you and your mother to communicate without just ghosting meâŠ.. thatâs the right thing to do.
I sigh as the urge to press the block was strong but I just couldnât let myself do it. My mom let me have the choice to do it myself, but it felt as though the choice made me question things too much. I quickly go to kenmas contact and text him
"Hey Kenma, are you busy this weekend if not do you want to go to the library to work on our project?"Â
My nerves settle in after I hit send maybe that was a bad idea since he barely even speaks in class so what if Iâm just bothering him. I groan into my pillow then get up to get a drink. My mom wasn't home yet due to work, so I just microwaved some leftovers and finished my assignments until my eyes got droopy.
After an hour or two of staring at the sheets of paper while a show played in the background, I decided to go to my room. When I finally got under the covers, I heard my phone vibrate. thinking itâs just my dad so I go to swipe the notification but its Kenma's name instead. I sit up straight and click the message. I shouldn't have been this nervous, itâs only for a project I tell myself.Â
I breathe and click on the message.
Kenma:
sure.
I feel I little disappointed at the dry text but also kind of relieved. I guess I shouldâve expected less. I waited awhile before responding with a thumbâs up emoji, I lay back down and thought about him. Angel was right he is my type but Iâve never dated anyone before, yeah I had crushes but that was it, and thatâs probably all this is
This was actually ridiculous. I rolled over and drank some water to relax. I knew it was time to go to sleep or else my mind would fall into a rabbit hole, and I wouldn't be able to crawl out. I closed my eyes and counted to 100 and then counted backwards until the numbers got fuzzy and it was black.
I actually slept better than I thought despite last night. It was Friday and Angel walked to school with me, I left quietly as my mom was still sleeping after working the night shift. Me and Angel got to school early, so we decided to walk to the gym after hearing people practicing. We carefully opened the gym doors and walked to the bleachers.Â
When we got settled, we watched as our schoolâs volleyball team practiced, the sound of balls slamming against the floor and boys wayyyyy taller than I expected jumped up to block the incoming balls from hitting their side. Angel nudged my shoulder and pointed and sure enough there was Kenma and his friend Kuroo practicing together in their volleyball uniforms.Â
I didnât realize how hard I was staring wide eyed till Angel hit my shoulder. I glared at her, and we just talked for a few minutes when the sounds of loud footsteps on the bleachers approached us, it was Kuroo and at the bottom Kenma awkwardly stood. "Hey ladies, like what you see?" the shameless dark-haired boy made me and Claudia laugh. Claudia spoke up first "donât you have anything better to do your friend looks like he's waiting for you?"
The boy looked back at his friend who was now sitting and playing on his Nintendo "nahh he's fine, soo what are you to ladies up to...." after what seemed like hours of him talking the bell rang and it was time for class and kuroo got the BRIGHT idea for Kenma to walk to class with me since we have the same 1st period and that he and Claudia walk together since there classes are on the same floor. I agreed but inside my stomach felt like it was eating itself.
But I worried for nothing, the walk was just awkward silence as he had his head down in his game the whole time. It was surprising how he didnât walk into people or lockers, even when I am paying attention I walk into things.Â
When we finally got to class, we both sat in the same seats we chose on the first day. The teacher wasn't in yet so scrolled through Instagram while anxiously playing with my bat chain. Eventually the teacher walked in and started class. She would occasionally warn Kenma to put his device away before taking it. It was kind of funny seeing him pout.
Sometimes I swear I could feel someone staring at me, but I tried to ignore it and focused on my work. After that the school day was just a blur. All I could think about was tomorrow with Kenma. I knew it wasn't date, but I couldn't help but think about it like it was. And before I knew it was time to get ready to go. and of course, I couldn't think of what to wear so of course I went to Pinterest for inspiration.
And finally, I decided on a short sleeve graphic shirt and cargo jeans with a studded belt. I Grab my bag and put supplies in it before I go. I say bye to my mom and head out.
I got there a few minutes late after I had missed my bus and raced to the next stop. Once I found a place to set up, I texted Kenma and asked him what time he was getting there. I waited a few minutes and started the research for the project and once I checked my phone there was no reply. I just assumed he was already on his way and couldn't text back.Â
So, I waited.
And waited,
and waited...
It had been over an hour and still no reply I let out a defeated sigh and accepted defeat and worked on the project by myself. I feel my stomach growling I sighed went out to eat. I knew I shouldn't have been this excited over a stupid crush I got in less than a week. i left and found a place to eat. Once I finished my food it was 3 pm and I told my mom that I would be a home a little late when I thought I actually was going to have someone to study with, But I just decided to walk around for a while.
I window shopped until my feet got tired then caught the next bus. I checked my phone and still had no messages, I sighed and put my head on the window. When I got home I went to my room and laid on my back on my bed, staring at the ceiling, even if I donât actually like him I still felt hurt getting stood up. The weekend was over in a flash, and my stomach twisted at the thought of tomorrow and having to face him. But maybe it wont be that bad...

elijah mikaelson x fem!reader x kai parker | requested
summary: an argument breaks out when kai learns about elijahâs plan to propose to you. he had been making these plans himself, he just hadnât expected the other man to do it without letting him know first. luckily, you intervene mid-fight and are able to settle it between them, proposing an agreement that suits you all
tags: poly relationship, arguments, talks of marriage, happy ending, fluff
word count: 1.3k
a/n: i hate the title, but not being able to title it was the only thing stopping me from publishing the request, which i didnât want to do, so itâs kind of a bad title and iâm sorry about that. but, i hope you like it!
The minute you leave to go to your lunch date with Rebekah, Kai confronts the other man in your life about a small box he found in his nightstand.Â
âWhat do you plan on doing with it?â He tries to square up the original after hearing it is, in fact, a ring.Â
âI know you spent a lot of your life locked away, but I think you know why one would usually buy a ring.â
âDonât play dumb with me. Are you going to propose to her?â
âIf you must know, yes, I was planning on it.â
âYou canât do that,â he starts, only to be interrupted.
âAnd why not?â
âBecause I was going to.â
âYou must be joking. You donât have the devotion for marriage, Malachai.â
âMaybe I do. How would you know?â
âBecause I know you. We have been in this relationship for two years. We know each other just as much as we know her.â
âThatâs where youâre wrong, Elijah. I am devoted. Devoted to her.â
âI know you are. But what about marriage? Itâs something else entirely.â
âAre you suggesting Iâm not capable of it?â
âIâm merely suggesting that you are not able to handle something so binding. Marriage is a commitment.â
âIâve been committed to your dumbass all these years.â
âYou have, for her.â
âSo whatâs the problem then?â
Elijah sighs, âletâs not make this an argument.â
âMe? Youâre the one starting shit!â
âMalachai, I-â
âAnd donât fucking call me that, you know I hate it. Why do you think you get to propose to the girl weâre both dating? She canât ride off into the sunset with you and leave me behind, and how do you know she even wants to marry you?â
âSo now youâre telling her what she can and cannot do. Thatâs never a good sign of a healthy relationship, Mal-â
âShut up! Stop calling me that! And Iâm not telling her what to do, Iâm only saying that thereâs three of us in this relationship, and you canât just break it up like that.â
âOf course we would work out the details later, but it is imperative that I-â
âNo! We work out the details before we ask the life-changing decisions! And funnily enough, I was actually going to ask you about similar details when I found your little box - which, by the way, you should hide better - because I have been wanting to go out and buy my own little box for her, because I do love her, and I am willing to make that commitment!â
âItâs not a little box, Mal⊠Kai, itâs a ring.â
âI know that.â
âAnd did you just say you wanted to propose too?â
âYes, I did. But unlike you, I care about her feelings towards you, so I wanted to ask you before I made any rash decisions.â
âI care about how she feels for you, Kai, I just planned to ask those questions pertaining to you after I asked the question.â
âWhy after? Why not before? Why so secretive?â
âKai, Iâm not in the mood for doing this with you-â
âActually, it makes so much sense. Youâve been really standoff-ish lately, and Iâm guessing this is why. But why the attitude, huh? Guilt, maybe? Pity?â
âYouâre taking this too far. I have not been meaning to come off a certain way. You are projecting your own fears onto me.â
âI cannot deal with your thousand year old pretentious vampire talk right now, Elijah, I-â
âWell I cannot deal with your sensitive, baby vampire feelings. So may I suggest we both end this before we drive ourselves crazy?!â
âI am not sensitive! You donât know what Iâve been through.â
âI do, actually, quite know. And I know that you hate to admit it, but you are being sensitive, because you love Y/N so much and the thought of not having her kills you.â
âSo then why are you taking her from me?! Why did you go and buy that-âÂ
âWhatâs going on?!â You shout into the room, effectively shutting up the two men. You could hear their muffled yelling from outside, tension settling in your bones at the noise.Â
They both stop and stare at you.Â
âY/N,â Elijah coughs, âI thought you were meeting with my sister.â
âSomething came up so we rescheduled. Why are you two arguing?â
Itâs dead silent.Â
âYou better tell me right now. I thought we got over the two of you fighting.â
Kai wants nothing more than to spit out the truth, but the original would crucify him. Thankfully, Elijah sighs, âwe are having a minor disagreement.â
âAbout what?â
âAbout you,â Kai says quietly.
âYeah, I got that. Would someone like to expand?â
âI wanted to propose to you, Y/N,â Elijah finally admits. âBut I hadnât told Kai about this plan yet, so when he found the ring, he became upset.â
Your stomach flips, âpropose? ElijahâŠâ
âI love you, Y/N. You are the woman I want to spend my eternity with. But as it turns out, Malachai feels the same, he just hadnât taken the same steps yet.â
âThe steps?â
âI didnât buy a ring because I wanted to make sure it was okay with him if I asked. But Elijah over here decided heâd just ask me after asking you,â Kai supplies.Â
âYou both?â
They nod.Â
âOh my god.â You sit down in the nearest chair to think. âGod⊠I love you both, so much.â
âWould you?â Elijah starts, then continues when you look up at him, âmarry one of us?â
ââLijah⊠I love you. I do want to live forever with you. But Kai, I love you, too. I canât choose between you guys.â
âWhat are you saying, Y/N?â
âIâm saying I canât marry either of you. I canât break your hearts; I canât commit to one; I canât make that decision. I wonât.â
âBut⊠you still want to be with us, right?â Kai stutters out, afraid your rejecting words are a break up.Â
You turn to him immediately, âof course, Kai. Thatâs whatâs stopping me from marrying either of you. I need you both in my life. If marriage is going to divide us, I donât want it.â
âBut Y/N, itâs the opposite. Itâs what brings people together.â
ââLijah⊠marriage is a binding process sanctioned by the government. We can live and love without a piece of paper telling us to do that. We can be happy just being us.â
Kai visibly softens at your words. His shoulders relax and jaw untenses. âI am just happy to be with you, Y/N. Elijah, please say you agree.â
The more traditional man takes longer to give into the idea.Â
âI love our relationship just the way it is,â you tell him. âAnd, since you already bought the ring, I will still wear it, if you want. Kai, you too. I can wear them both. As a symbol of our love, without going through all the yucky legal stuff to have it.â
Elijah sighs before smiling and agreeing. âAn anti-proposal proposal. Iâm for it.â
A huge smile takes over your face and you rush to hug them both. They return the favor with the same enthusiasm.Â
âNow, if we may, I was going to give Bex my whole afternoon, but now I have nothing to do! Might my favorite boys join me on the bed with a movie?â
Kai springs up at the word âmovie,â and immediately fetches popcorn and snacks. You give Elijah one more kiss, thank him for agreeing to your wishes, and then send him off to find a movie.Â
For the rest of the day, you lie cuddled in between your boys, sharing candy and kisses, until exhaustion settles in your bones.Â
âSleep, Y/N,â Elijah mutters, âweâve got you.â
âWe love you,â Kai mumbles, half asleep himself.Â
You kiss both their hands, then start to drift off into a deep sleep. âI love you both, too.â

I came back to apologize for my previous ask about the smut in M&M. Not about the question, but the delivery.
Reading it in retrospect, it sounds terribly abrasive, abrupt, and rude. That was not my intention. Iâm actually quite embarrassed that I typed it out the way I did. Very disrespectful, and I am sorry.
Iâm also a single mother, AND a business owner, who happens to read a lot. And as a matter of fact, I do write my own fics.
When I came across yours, I was immediately enamored by it, especially because I had never seen anything like it. I LOVE the entire concept. Its creative and extremely relatable. Especially for people like me. I realize I should have led with that.
I felt very strongly that you needed to know I truly wasnât trying to be an asshole when I asked. The delivery was awful though, and since I wrote it in the middle of the night when I was already tired and my brain was looking for smut (lol but not really funny), I projected that in a bad way.đ€ŠđŒââïž I truly regret it.
In an attempt at an explanation, I saw most of what I said as a joke, i.e. âGood God. If they moved any slower, they'd be going backwards ... Sorry ijs...â I remember actually laughing when I typed that.
It wasnât meant to be an insult, but more rhetoric or hyperbole. I wasnât careful with my expression, so I apologize for that, too.
All of that being said, I also just happen to be a straightforward person, but I wasnât angry at all when I wrote it.
When I said âWhy not omit the smut altogether?â, I was actually wondering why you didnât just choose to just make it fluff instead (though you can do what you choose). As I read it, it didnât feel like it was even mandatory, especially considering the dynamic between them, and how it was clear he had strong feelings for her from the beginning, even when they worked together.
I also admit that with the tags, I had an expectation of more, which is where the mess that came out of me originated, but I was absolutely not expecting it for every chapter.
I don't agree with adding too much, adding it in every chapter, or that the only thing that matters is sex. His character really is objectified a lot, and all of that can dilute a story very quickly or even ruin it.
My question was more geared towards gaining an understanding of why you chose the route you did. Which was a far better way of asking than the way I did, and thereâs no excuse for that.
I hope you continue to write great stories, and again, I SINCERELY apologize for my insensitivity.
Firstly, I would like to say I really appreciate you reaching back out to me â I was pleasantly surprised to read this and it makes me SO happy to know that there are people like you on the internet, capable of addressing a misunderstanding in a respectful and thoughtful way. You being willing to send me this says a lot about who you are as a person, so seriously, thank you.
No hard feelings on my end, all is forgiven. I can completely see where you were coming from and I also relate â there have been many times in my life where Iâve said something and it came out different than what I intended. It happens love.
I will happily go ahead and answer this question! There are two answers to it.
The first answer is that I will not omit the smut altogether simply because⊠I like sex? đ€·ââïž Idk, itâs a simple answer really, lol đ
But I think to put it in perspective, I like sex in a different way most people consume on this platform. I am demisexual â so I have to have that close emotional bond with someone before I find them remotely attractive. When it comes to writing smut (and sometimes even reading it), this really plays a big part to both my inspiration and my comfort level.
Secondly, Iâll address what you said regarding the characters in the story, specifically relating to the comment about how the smut wasnât mandatory.Â
Personally, I do think the smut scene in ch 3 was relevant to the story bc it gave readers an insight into Satoruâs feelings/perspective. While yes, Satoru was drawn to reader in the beginning, he didnât understand his own feelings, and there were walls he built up around his heart (you get a glimpse of this when he talks to reader about how he never wanted to get married; it was after their courthouse ceremony in ch 2).
Also, most of the interactions between him and reader were subtly intimate in chs 1-2⊠he really did not start acting more bold until after the smut scene in ch 3 (ie, he tries to kiss her in the supply room and in the kitchen). Basically, his walls did not come down until they shared that first kiss, because it solidified his own feelings for her. He mentions this to reader when they share their second kiss in ch 6.
If you listen to the song on my playlist for mhm called âCardiac Arrestâ by Bad Suns, it really speaks to the image I had of Satoru while writing the scene during/after their kiss in ch 2.
The moving too fast thing plays into readers character. She was cheated on by naoya (also naoya is just a prick lol), so of course trust is not something she is going to give lightly. I did not feel comfortable having the smut continue in ch 6 bc it felt like their relationship would regress â reader wasnât honest with satoru yet yk? It wouldâve felt super hypocritical for her to preach about how important trust is to her, but then not deliver it herself. putting myself in satoruâs position, I would feel pretty hurt if immediately after I fucked someone for the first time, they suddenly decide to tell me a secret they were hiding from me? đââïž Again... idk, that could be just me though, bc as I said, emotional bonds are big when it comes to physical intimacy for me.
Anyways, I hope this gave you some perspective to my own thought process and answered your question love.
As a fellow mom myself, just wanna say, you single moms are literal super heroes đ„ș Sending you love bc it is NOT easy. Thanks for reading my story and apologizing đ«¶đ»

Redna 2
Not many are aware of this but Redna het Cassia was an accomplished Disciple of the Hand and Land. Indeed she was a generous soul who went out of her way to help others not just in danger but those in need of tools, supplies, clothing, and more. Rumor has it much of her skills came from the teaching of a close friend of herâs, Hunmu Tyâukuk. A Horathgar (or Xbrâaal as is the Turali term) hailing from the northern half of Tural prior too the tragedy after the appointment of the second Dawnservants.
Not much is known about this part of her life, but we are fortunate enough to have access to writings about her from the various guild leaders of her time. As of now, we only have the accounts of Ulâdahlan guilds but hope to have the records from other Citystates soon.
The following excepts have been generously donated by the various guilds of the Citystate of Ulâdah, without whom a large part of this generous individualâs history would have been forgotten. Thank you and may you ever follow that which guides you.
Redna has always been an outstanding member of the guild. Putting in twice the hours of most native workers with the payload to show for it! You would be hard pressed to find a more dependable miner then her. Although she tends to be fairly removed from the other miners. Whenever one would put up the invite for drinks at the Quicksand she would politely but quickly decline, before disappearing into the city streets. We now know she prefers the company of her family and the Lemures but at the time she came off as quite stand offish.
-Adalberta: Guild Master of the Miners Guild of Thanalan
Not gonna lie too you, Redna scared me for a while at first. Almost every time she would look at me it would be with this glower like I had spat in her wine. When she first joined the guild I think she listened to Gigi more then myself hehe. Of course, I came too learn overtime this wasnât contempt but expectations. She saw potential in me I didnât even see myself! It was a number of years later she came out too me about it. I still feel awful for how I let her down back then but I wouldnât be the guild master I am today if she didnât push me back then!
-Serendipity: Guild Master of the Goldsmiths Guild of Thanalan
An exemplary assistant if I ever had one! Redna never fails to have exactly what I need for a project at a moments notice, sometimes even before I request it. Iâve also never seen such clean concoctions from anyone besides myself in all my years. Oh of course I knew about her heritage. There are certain alchemical techniques that only those of Garlean teachings would know and she blatantly displayed them before me multiple times. There was never any doubt in my mind that she was a pure soul however. I can think of no kinder individual then her.-Severain: Guild Master of the Alchemists Guild of Thanalan
The most imaginative mind ive ever known! Redna has made garments for clients that I could only dream of! Her stitchwork is exemplary and her understanding of what the client needs is second too none. She used too deliver orders for the guild for years before joining and you can tell she studied the works she carried carefully. A more meticulous craftswoman you will be hard pressed to find.
-Redolent Rose: Guildmaster of the Weavers Guild of Thanalan
Redna. What can I say about Redna? I guess a better question would be what canât I say about her. I remember when her and her family first arrived here. Weary, broken, with her father barely lucid from his injuries. All we knew at the time was they had barely escaped the tragedy of Bozja. Even then the girl had that look in her eyes. Like she was willing to fight the whole world for those she loved. And by the Twelve did she prove it. Starting that seemingly average morning where she came too my desk damn near demanding to become an adventurer. I was shocked and not a little apprehensive then. I knew by that point the truth of her family, one canât miss such secrets in my position. I was scared for her and her family if this went south. But all it took was one look at her face too know that I couldnât fight her. She had that same look as before you see. The look of a hero.

Stardrifting Perspective
"âȘ Solar Prince of Al-Kapown, all through galactic void he--"
"Would you knock that off, Powani?" finally piped Nievrosa, bioengineer from Onu-Kori.
"C'mon, we've been at this whole project for how long?" huffed the exasperated Po-Korian weaponsmith Powani, almost tossing his notepad behind him by accident. "I'm trying not to lose my mind here!"
"I get that. Honestly, I do." Nievrosa rolled her eyes after that reply. "But could you at least pick literally any other song but the latest sing--"
"Hey, did anyone see where Aethab went?" asked Taijun, weaponsmith from Ta-Kori, who had just approached the table with a large and messy stack of paper.
"Oh, her? She pulled ol' Jeffy with her into her personal quarters a few minutes ago. Probably to let him vent out his latest crazy theory away from the rest of us. Why, you got something for her?"
"Boy do I ever." Taijun set the paper stack onto the table between the two bioengineers. "She had these files from the Terrans and asked me to translate them for her. You two can have a look too if you want."
Nievrosa and Powani each grabbed a portion of the stack and flipped through the pages one at a time. Powani raised an eyebrow.
"Okay, lay it on me, what am I looking at?"
"Literally every single file related to us that the Terrans had and were willing to send back."
"Taijun, these read like weapon schematics!" huffed Nievrosa.
"I'm an armorer who writes like an armorer, sue me." Taijun rolled his eyes. "Let me know when you ever finish hand-translating a hundred pages worth of Terran nonsense under threat of an impatient Ta-Korian's--"
"Wait wait wait, hang on. ...hold on a second."
Powani squinted his eyes at the page he was holding, stifling some laughter after a moment. Taijun stared at him with unamused eyes.
"...alright, Powani, where's that funny typo you found?"
"Right here," Powani answered as he pointed somewhere in the bottom half of the page. "You meant to write 'Armorite', right?"
Taijun shook his head. "You... may wanna check the translator notes you skipped right over."
"Oh?" Powani shuffled to the notes in question.
"Why'd Aethab even ask for these again?" wondered Nievrosa as she straightened out her smaller portion of the paper stack.
"Something something spare-time-research. She paid me to do it quickly and to not ask."
"No frickin' way, dude..."
"Fair enough. I don't know how helpful it's gonna be though given what little good their actual MMG files w-- Where's Powani going?"
"Yo, Eryast! Galoirea! C'mere, you're not gonna believe this shit!"
"This better be good, Powani, we're kinda busy here, unlike you."
Taijun and Nievrosa each watched in confused silence as Powani carried only the translator notes Taijun pointed him to over to the two weaponsmiths drafting a proposal on future genetic enhancements for Gelidan military personnel. They looked at each other in that same confused silence before Nievrosa shrugged and continued her line of thought.
"...as I was saying, how much are these gonna help us out in the long run given how much the Terrans held back on the actual project that made this weapon what he is?"
"I dunno, ma'am," concurred Taijun. "Ask Aethab when she's done calming Jeff down again."
"Don't you know every single word that's in these stacks of papers?"
"Look, as I said, I was in a hurry to get this done for her. It all blurred together as I was going through it."
Nievrosa sighed. "Once again, fair enough. ...can you help me with some of the weird lingo, though?"
"I'll do my best," agreed Taijun, who pulled a chair to sit next to Nievrosa. "Which I hope is enough to make up for Powani just up and taking my translator notes over to those other two."
"Of course the Po-Korian would do that..."
"...okay, I know I was griping a bit there, but do you guys really dislike each other that much? Po and Onu Korians in general, I mean."
Nievrosa stared blankly at Taijun, who rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
"Sorry, forget I asked."
"No no, you're fine. It makes sense to think that; our medias exaggerate the hell out of our inter-regional relationship. But no, it's... just a surface-level culture clash, that's all."
"...really?"
"I mean, on the one hand, yeah. But on the other, you know how reserved we are in Onu-Kori compared to, well, that."
Nievrosa pointed to the scene of Powani showing Taijun's recent translations to Eryast and Galoirea. Galoirea bopped him in the face for interrupting her outlining work. Eryast took a long look at the translator notes and laughed uncontrollably, even after Galoirea then swiped the page from his hands to look at it herself.
"How hard is it to blame quieter people like us Onu-Korians for not being able to handle that kind of rowdiness?"
"I mean..." Taijun watched the scene unfold as well. "I suppose I get being bothered by that. But it's not exclusively Po-Korians that act that way. I've seen it plenty in my hometown."
"Okay, sure. But how common is it outside Po-Kori?"
"Not uncommon. Jeff can hold his own with Eryast, can't he?"
"No shit, have you seen Jeff? He's a frickin' weirdo."
"And you're not? You seemed like you were handling Powani okay."
"That's..."
Nievrosa sighed, ceding Taijun's point. "Okay, you got me there. Powani though - to his credit - is a lot softer spoken than average. But he still has his moments, like right before you showed up when he was humming that new Mighty Mallet single to himself for the umpteenth time today. And also like, well, over there."
She pointed to the other table again, where Galoirea tore her outline-in-progress in half as Powani and Eryast shared a laugh. Galoirea then got up from her chair, power-walking toward Taijun and Nievrosa. Taijun steeled himself for the interaction.
"See, even Galoirea couldn't handl--"
"Are these the files you just translated?" asked Galoirea, planting her hand on the stack of papers next to Taijun, who sheepishly glanced at the stack and then back at Galoirea.
"...yep, that's them. Aethab's reque--"
Without another word, Galoirea swiped the stack of paper from Taijun's side and carried them back to her table to look through them page by page.
"...Aethab's gonna be pissed," sighed Taijun after a moment of awkward silence before he scooted back next to Nievrosa.
"...so what do you think has her so worked up now?" asked Nievrosa, nodding her head toward Galoirea.
"Hard to tell with Ga-Korians, honestly..." Taijun mused. "Must be big though considering she just tore up what she was working on."
"It involves your translator notes, we know that much. What was on those again?"
"Hang on, actually, I just remembered I made a second cop--"
"They're doing WHAT with our Armorite?!" shouted Galoirea from across the room, loud enough for Eryast to clutch his ears.
Taijun held his chin for a moment before realizing. "Aah, she must be on that Vel-trawm-lay-bin page."
"...I'm sorry, that what page?"
"Hoooo boy, you're gonna wanna buckle down for this one..."

Hello!!!
I have been a fan for a very long time and itâs really amazing to see your story and art develop over the past years! Iâve been a follower of BadBeat and itâs reiterations and Iâm excited to see where this new project may go. I look up to you as an artist and am greatly inspired by your work.
I have a question about the other characters, such as the other demons (Levi, Mammon, Asmodeus, Lucifer, Satan, Belphi) and other characters (Chandra, Marquis, and Josiah). I see you answered about Belphi being a sworn ex of Bubâs (which poor thing he was so sweet đą), Chandra being a dealer for them of sorts, and Satan being a rough and negative influence of Bubâs. However, I wonder what else is written about the others and what you are willing to share about them. I know Asmodeus had a big influence on Rex in BadBeat, but I wonder his personality and role as an antagonist now. I also wonder how the other demons play in as well, like the others mentioned. Also I want to know if Marquis and Josiah even exist anymore. Is there any new characters?
I apologize if this ask is long and confusing but I am wondering what you can share before this new story is released and want to know more of the characters not mentioned.
thank you so much for being such a longtime fan! that really makes me happy to hear. So just some clarification before I answer your questions, you got a couple names confused!
Chanda's name is just Chanda, no R.
Joe's full name is not Josiah. It's Giuseppe, but he goes by Joe.
okay the rest of this got LOOOONG, so just a heads up.
I've answered questions a couple times regarding if Mark, Joe and Chanda will be featured in this story, and the short answer is yes; they do have a place in this world and story and they do still exist. Whether or not I make any story content (short story, short comic, etc) about them still remains to be seen. The difficult thing about reinventing your OCs and changing their backstories is that they kind of start to become nebulous and unclear to you again, and you have to relearn who they are in the world when the setting changes. These three in particular have been very uninspiring for me for lack of a better word. I know they seem to be a fan favorite among my audience but I just feel nothing for them at the moment. I'm trying to give them time to simmer on the back burner and see what comes up. Chanda's reinvention as a hag / witch was a good step, but that's all I got. Joe and Mark will still be a vampire and a werewolf respectively but that's all I got.
As of right now, my idea is that the main cast is Bub and Rex. Mark, Joe and Chanda are reoccurring cast members / allies to Brex. An example of a typical "episode" in my head is that Brex checks in with Chanda, get their mission from her, and then they go on their merry way. Meanwhile, Joe, Mark and CHanda would be the B story that is either contained to their own event, or they are aiding Brex in some way.
Ideally I would love for all the devils to have their time to shine as an antagonist. With this setting where Brex are clearly defectors and traitors to their respective sides of a war, they both will have characters from their past coming to try and thwart them or break them apart. Satan, Asmo and Belphi would be considered bigger villains and antagonists because they have direct personal relationships to Bub and Rex, whereas Mammon, Luci and Levi have less stakes in the mix simply because they're not as involved with their interpersonal relationships and backstories. (that may change down the line! who knows.) The devils all have relationships with each other tho, so it's not like they have no reason to be there.
So jumping back to Asmo for a second, I mentioned in another ask that Rex's soul already belongs to a devil due to a deal his mother made before he was born. Lately, I've been thinking it goes something like this: I think the devil who made that deal was Asmodeus. We get this kind of dynamic where Asmo haunts and taunts Rex, but Rex has no idea why. He has night terrors about this devil, and feels his influence all around him, but he's resistant to it and fights it.
When he figures out what happened to him, that his soul was claimed before he was even born, I think he attempts to take matters into his own hands. He actually attempts to summon Asmodeus on his own and confront him. Now, remember- Rex is in a cult of highly dogmatic demonslayers and witchhunters, and is preparing to become the leader, so him dabbling in any kind of summoning magic is highly taboo, even if his end goal is to slay and confront his literal demon, so just go ahead and add all the angst you want to this hypothetical scene :P
Anyways, as fate would have it- he messes up somewhere along the line, and summons Bub instead. I think he was fasting the day he decided to do this to "purify his body" or some shit, and the whole time he's working on summoning a Lust Devil, he's thinking "God I'm starving..." and it dominates the spell summoning spell he's casting hahaha.
Now, another idea I've been chewing on lately- I've been watching a looot of True Blood (old HBO vampire show from the 2000s. I loved it when I was a teen.) and there's a thing in the universe where vampire blood has highly potent magical qualities when ingested by humans. It can heal their wounds and save their lives essentially. When taken recreationally, it's also a very potent aphrodisiac, so when a human has the blood of a vampire, they get very vivid sexual fantasies about the vampire who's blood they are taking.
I have been really inspired by this and want to apply a similar thing to my devils in my world, so I like the idea that when Rex summons Bub, even tho it was an accident, he starts get these potent sexual fantasies and feels this intense attraction to a beast he's sworn to kill. I really love the idea of Rex suffering thru that inner turmoil of being a righteous man in his beliefs, but being so conflicted by what his body wants. while also being ASHAMED. Like, come on! it's not the sexy mysterious and refined devil that's been haunting his dreams- it's this bozo of a glutton devil!
Okay reigning the tangent in and trying to address your last question- I do have a couple new characters for this world! First of all we have a lot of Rex's family as reoccuring cast members / antagonist. Rex's dad is a huge character in his backstory, as well as his mom.
Rex's daughter is a character that will come into play eventually, too. I'm looking forward to designing her for this setting.
and I'm also at that stage in my world building where any new characters I make, I want to find a place for in this world. All my worlds feel connected, Im just that kind of artist where everything I make tends to share similar themes and settings. I have a very very old oc from 2015 who now has a place in this story for example. He's a young exorcist who becomes Rex's mentor when he decides to commit to learning demon magic.
Okay I need to stop here, I can't believe how long this got lmao

how did you learn how to draw for inheritance? i want to make a webtoon but that part is holding me back. any tips?
Hey there! This got long so I'm putting it under a cut.
I didn't learn to draw for Inheritance! I've been an artist for a long time. Inheritance is just my first attempt at sequential art (sequential art is an umbrella term for work like graphic novels, comics, and webcomics).
This next part might sound like I'm warning you against making a webcomic, but I'm not, I swear. Stay with me.
Here it goes:
Learning to draw is hard. Drawing for comics is harder.
The reason I began drawing at age whatever (elementary school) and couldn't stop was because I was/am obsessed with it. Even if nobody was looking at my work, I would still be drawing. I highly suggest asking yourself if drawing brings you deep, lasting joy and satisfaction.
If your answer is NO, then please don't frustrate yourself by attempting to create something so difficult. (Since you're asking this question at all, I'm willing to bet your answer isn't NO, lol)
If your answer is I'M NOT SURE, then my advice is to spend six months drawing for an hour every single day. If you find, even after a few months, that it's not something you enjoy, or even like, then I can guarantee you will not have fun making a comic.
If the answer is a resounding YES, then I suggest you write your plot (the whole thing, including dialogue), choose your characters' designs, make a scene breakdown/outline for your first "chapter" or "arc," choose your color scheme, fonts, bubble style, and then start practicing drawing your characters over and over and over again until you can make them look like the same person every time you try.
The reason I'm laying all of this out is because if you aren't deeply in love with making art, then you will burn out very quickly attempting to make a comic.
The good news is that drawing a comic will force you to get better at art so, so fast. But that hinges entirely on how hard you work at it. And how hard you work at it hinges entirely on how much you love creating art, and how much you love the story you're trying to tell. See where I'm going with this?
The reason I find drawing for comics harder than illustration is because you have to draw everything. Especially if you go the route I did--I don't take a lot of shortcuts with 3D assets, and my style is more realistic than symbolic. Backgrounds, props, furniture, different outfits, vehicles, trees, bushes, etc etc etc. It doesn't matter if you don't like to draw something--if your character takes the bus and it's important to the story, you gotta draw her on the damn bus.
As for resources--I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Scott McCloud's two incredible books--Understanding Comics and Making Comics. They are comics 101, they are the moment, they are indispensable knowledge. And you can get them in pdf form for free on the internet archive.
If you're a beginner artist and don't know where the hell to even start, my all-time favorite instruction book is Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards (get the workbook too, it's a necessary part of the book). It is the best "how to draw" book I've ever used, and I have used a LOT, please trust me on this one.
The second how-to-draw resource that I think is just as helpful as Betty Edwards' book is this incredible shrimp tutorial. Again, just trust me! It works!!!
I feel like a lot of creative advice fails to mention that if you want to create something, whether it be a novel or a painting or a webcomic, you have to love (or at least like) to practice doing it in order to do it well, and nobody knows if you love it except you. It's the repetition of the art form that makes us good at it, and that repetition means hours and hours of your time, each week, for years. (Please note: practice isn't always fun in the moment, I don't love drawing every second I'm doing it. Please see: delayed gratification.)
A relevant anecdote--I was also an actor for fifteen years of my life. I practiced enough to become very good! And I ended up quitting at the height of my skills. I didn't like doing it. It didn't matter to me if I was "talented" or not, it didn't set my soul on fire enough to want to continue giving my time and resources to that kind of storytelling. Not every art form will speak to our souls the same way, and that's okay.
I truly wish you the best and I dearly hope that if you end up making a comic, you'll share it with me.
Best of luck.
