Shoutout to the temporary ships that were created with the intention of getting in the way of the intended ship but that I actually liked way more than the ship the writers were trying to get me to root for.

(a.k.a I kinda get a bit salty on this one)

1. Laurel and Tommy - Arrow

As soon as they got introduced I felt the feeling of doom. Because they were so immediately adorable and full of chemistry. I loved them from the word go even though it was so clear they were going toward a Laurel and Oliver resolution (and then to add insult to injury they changed their minds on that, but Tommy was taken from Laurel anyway).

2. Clara and Danny - Doctor Who

It's up for debate if Clara's relationship with the Doctor was meant to be romantic-coded or not (I personally prefer it as 'not' but they really were very fuzzy with the lines) but either way Danny was still used as the threat that might separate them. And that was really annoying for me because I liked Clara and Danny so much. And then they killed him (which is a scene that still tears my heart to pieces).

3. Cordy and Doyle - Angel: The Series

They were short and sweet and I enjoyed them (and though the Cordy and Angel thing wasn't really a thing at the time, there were some signs that it was on the writers' minds... and I wasn't a fan). And then they killed Doyle (...I might have to rename this post to 'killing off the love interests I actually enjoyed to give way to the ships I didn't').

4. Rachel and Joey - F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

This ship went past my notice when I watched the show as a kid (my entire obsession rested on Monica and Chandler) but after rewatching as an adult I actually really liked their potential. It might have come up a bit unexpectedly but there really was something quite genuine about it (and Rachel deserved so much better than Ross). I wish they hadn't ended it as such a joke.

5. Worf and Troi - Star Trek: The Next Generation

They were created with the sole intention of getting in the way of Troi and Riker. But I liked them better. I just found them more interesting.

6. Tamsin and Bo - Lost Girl

They were more fun to watch than Bo and Lauren, had better chemistry and I just enjoyed them a lot more ('and then you see you' living in my head rent free for years now). But instead they gave Tamsin the short end of the stick and used her as a stepping stone (in so many ways, genuinely, even past shipping they just never gave that Valkyrie a single break... and then killed her in the most insulting way possible, because of course they did).

7. Wynonna and Dolls - Wynonna Earp

Talk about chemistry. Season 1 of that show was so good and I really did fool myself into thinking this was where they were heading but no, of course not (I should have learned my lesson about Emily Andras after she killed off Hale on Lost Girl). How is an old dude with a gross mustache more interesting than a literal dragon? The answer as far as I'm concerned... they're not (now guess if they killed him off. Guess!).

8. Lucy and Flynn - Timeless

A tragic love story happening in the wrong order and out of time because he meets her when he needs something to hold on to and she gives him a crusade. And she meets him while he's zealously following that crusade and thinks he's just a terrorist? Dude. But no, apparently the happy ending is supposed to be the guy that wanted the cake and to eat it too (sometimes I genuinely boggle at how the writers just will not notice when they've hit gold and instead go on beating that dead horse even more to death (and yup, somehow manage to kill the gold)) .

9. Dutch and Johnny - Killjoys.

(First I have to say that I still recommend this show a 100% and this is just quibble of a shipper at heart) But how is it that when you build the whole series around the heart of this relationship, you still end up using Johnny as a brief stop point (a la basically a Married!AU) before you put Dutch back with his brother? Like, yes, they're each other's best friends and always will be but people that are in love can be each other's ride or die best friends too.

10. Mel and Abigael - Charmed (2018)

Alright, Mel went through the intended love interests like candy (and I liked most of them well enough) but Abby was the one that intrigued me the most, so it was a great shame that she was never properly Mel's love interest at all and more enemy/antagonist/ally/friend with mostly one-sided feelings for Mel (enemies to friends to lovers was RIGHT THERE).

I'm still in my abimel feels and wondering how the hell mel/ruby lasted as long as it did when it was the stalest, least convincing romance (f/f and f/m) in the entire series. mel/niko (sweet), mel/jada (so cool), and mel/kat (if only it hadn't been handled so strangely) were all better.

like, you literally could NOT see the happiness and love mel/ruby kept prattling on about.

and, of course, abimel was fire from the moment they first interacted. immediate spark. I'll have to settle for believing that it would have happened had there been a season 5.

Not to yuck someone else's yum, ship and let ship and all that. Me personally? I don't understand Abimel as a ship.

Sure, Abigael finally admits she cares for Mel in season 3, but why would Mel feel the same way toward her? We've seen Mel's type, repeatedly, throughout the show and white women are not it.

Not to mention Abigael

Repeatedly treated the Vera-Vaughns like absolute idiots and lorded her witchcraft knowledge over them.

Started the demon-witch war that got several witches killed.

Schemed her way into becoming Demon Overlord.

Stole Macy's pyrokinesis and did so in a way that had incredibly poor racial optics. There was zero need for Abigael -- a white English demon-witch -- to make Macy -- an Afro-Latina demon witch -- kneel before her so Abigael could steal her power, but the writers really went ahead and Did That.

Went out of her way to seduce Harry, all the while knowing (or highly suspecting) that Macy had feelings for him.

Was incredibly, repeatedly condescending to Mel and her sisters throughout all of season 2.

As a ship, the way I view it and have picked up on from the shippers, Abimel seems to be far more about Abigael and her desiring Mel than centering Mel's thoughts and feelings -- especially when Mel is already in a relationship with another witch (who isn't white) through late season 2 and all of season 3. (Ruby. I mean Ruby.)

So, canonically speaking, why would Mel even want to be in a relationship with Abigael when the demon-witch has repeatedly treated her and her sisters like crap? I don't like Mel as a character, but what would she get out of this relationship other than being a way to redeem Abigael? (Who already was the creator's pet and got a BS redemption arc that was in no way earned narratively.)

Thanks to the wonderful @welldressedllama for the tag! 🥰 Just for funsies, this time I’m doing enemies-to-lovers/rivals-to-lovers/maybe-not-traditional-enemies-but-way-too-antagonistic-to-not-fit-the-bill-to-lovers edition. In no particular order:

1) Macy Vaughn x Abigael Jameson-Caine (Macigael) - Charmed CW

I ultimately respect the AbiMel plot, but these two were literally Right There. Excellent chemistry from moment one and they perfectly mirrored each other with Macy as a witch with demon blood (struggling with darkness) and Abigael as a demon with witch blood (struggling to accept lightness). To think of what could have been with the two of them and the acceptance of good and bad and the whole complex mess of the self makes me insaneeee

2) Nicky Shen x Zhilan Zhang (Zhicky) - Kung Fu CW

Idek what to say their dynamic was just so fun and watching them begrudgingly grow close was chef's kiss.

3) Eve Polastri x Villanelle (Villaneve) - Killing Eve

Literally THE enemies to lovers imho. What more do I need to say? Eve said seduction into my darkness? Yes please. Villanelle said feel emotions for one (1) woman and obsess over her? Okay. They're enemies AND lovers. They've both tried to kill each other. So? They get each other like no one else. No one's doing it like them

4) Scott McCall x Theo Raeken (Sceo) - Teen Wolf

Sorry but I'm clawing at the walls, gnawing on my hands, howling at the moon over them. Exploring all the tension and the guilt and the fear and the longing is delicious. And the layer of long-lost friends? The subtle seduction into trust and the mutual destruction on Theo's part? Sorry I'm crazy about it sorry.

5) Mona Vanderwaal x Spencer Hastings (Vanderstings/Spemona?) - Pretty Little Liars

Somebody in this fandom needs to tell me right meow why they're not a bigger thing??? Quintessential 'they hate each other's guts but no one matches their freak better'. Throw Hanna in the mix and that's the perfect formulation, but they hold their own on enemies-to-lovers grounds sooooooo well.

6) Raven Reyes x John Murphy (Murven) - The 100

Truth be told they're not my top ship for each other BUT they are the epitome of enemies to friends (to lovers). Some of the best relationship development I can think of.

7) Bonnie Bennett x Nora Hildegard (Bonnora) - The Vampire Diaries

Literally why were they not a thing? Bonenzo ily but look at them! They had such a fun little antagonistic flirty thing and Nora was canonically crushing on Bonnie. All I want is queer Bonnie and I was so close to having it

8) Kitty Covey x Yuri Han (Kitturi) - XO Kitty

Kitty literally took one look at rival Yuri making music and crossed that thin line from hate to love. Girl was like "I will take this Angry tension and transform it into Sexual tension" and I respect that

9) Kathani "Kate" Sharma x Anthony Bridgerton (Kanthony) - Bridgerton

I've only watched one full episode and seen random bits here and there but I'm obsessed with her and I'm obsessed with them. Literally scene one I was all in. They are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires

10) Luke Alvez x Penelope Garcia (Garvez) - Criminal Minds

I missed Morgan as much as the next guy, but Penelope and Luke's banter and chemistry is unmatched. Shame on the new seasons for lying to me and saying they went on a date but didn't have the same chemistry, that is such Bull

Genesis 20

20:1 Abraham moves. First mention of Gerarites (?).

20:2 Abraham repeats the lie he says in Egypt because he thinks Sarah is too beautiful. But Abimelech, the king of Gerar took Sarah.

20:3 God appears to Abimelech and says he is dead because Sarah is a wife. Is this really Abimelech's fault? Another way to look at this is that Abraham would never have been afraid and Abimelech would never have taken Sarah if the Gerarites were good people.

20:4-5 Abimelech prays to God from his standpoint, saying that his intentions were pure. Abimelech also claims that his nation is "just."

20:6 God states He knows that Abimelech was ignorant and that is why He never allowed Abimelech to touch Sarah. So if God knew this entire time, why did He threaten to kill Abimelech? Is this because He wanted Abimelech to respond in prayer? That is what differentiates this story and the time Abram went to Egypt.

20:7 God says to return Sarah, that Abraham is a prophet, and when Abraham prays for you, Abimelech shall live. This is the first explicit statement that Abraham is a prophet. Also, this is a prime example of intercession, for it is through Abraham's prayers that Abimelech will be saved. Why would Abimelech need the prayers of Abraham instead of praying by himself? If Abraham prayed for Abimelech, it would mean that they both reconciled and that Abimelech had turned to God. Remember that Abimelech is a king; kings never bow down authority to anyone, for it is their nature.

20:8-10 Abimelech conveys the message to all his servants, then confronts Abraham asking why he has done this.

20:11-13 Abraham replied that he had not sensed the worship of God in the city and feared for his life. He also said that Sarah really is his sister, but only a half-sister (from his father's side). He also asked Sarah to call him 'brother' in every place they enter.

20:14-15 Abimelech gives Sarah back to Abraham as well as many riches and tells him that he can settle anywhere in Abimelech's land. This contrasts the Egypt story, as the Egyptians commanded him to leave when they returned Sarah. This is reflective of a repentant king.

20:16 Abimelech tells Sarah that he has fairly reimbursed Abraham and that she should tell the truth moving forward.

20:17 Abraham prays for Abimelech. He is healed along with his wife and his female servants. In God's message, he never says anything about cursing or killing anyone besides Abimelech. Because the next sentence is "then they bore children" we can assume that "death" of Abimelech included his physical death as well as death of his future lineage.

20:18 The Statement above is confirmed in v.18.

Other Notes:

This story shares a parallel with the story of Egypt. When Abram went to Egypt the same situation occurred; the response of the Egyptians was to banish Abram and Sarai, they never addressed God. In this story, the difference is that Abimelech turned to God to address this issue. This means that if they worshiped a different god before, they had to now claim that the God of Abraham was Almighty. The Egyptians did not do so but rather rejected God.

God wanted to turn Abimelech's heart towards prayer, that is why this entire situation arose. (v.6)

This story shows a prime example of intercession. Abraham must pray for Abimelech for Abimelech's healing to happen. This sign shows reconciliation between the two and exemplifies the humility in Abimelech. (v.7)

This is the first explicit instance where Abraham is titled a prophet. The role of a prophet is to be the messenger of God. (v.7)

God's curse of death to Abimelech stated that Abimelech would die. This extends from just Abimelech's physical life to his lineage as well. (v.17-18)

OSB mentions that the Gerarites worshiped Dagon and Ashtaroth. Abimelech's obedience to God shows the inferiority of these false gods.
