putting little summer glitter tattoos on pope! ₊˚⊹ 𐦍༘₊ ⊹
you and pope decided to spend the warm sunny day sitting by the beach to get some fresh air while he studies, you honestly wanted to keep him company and needed to get him to spend some time outside.
seated on a towel you watch as the light hits the side of his face as he continues to write in his notebook.
"wanna go in the water?" you ask softly, poking his arm.
"i'm just gonna finish this first, you can go in if you want, i'll watch you from here" he smiles but doesn't look up from writing.
"nooo, i'll just stay here." you huff and turn to look in your tote bag to see if you can find anything to entertain yourself with.
you dig around and find some temporary glitter tattoos that you had bought earlier that week.
you smile to yourself and look back over at pope who is still busying himself with his work, you take off your shirt leaving you in your bikini top.
taking the water bottle that was lying on the towel you soak a corner of your shirt and scooch closer to pope.
all of a sudden he feels something stick on his arm and your little fingers pressing it in place.
"what are you doing?" he asks like he's about to scold a child, his head turns over to look at his arm.
"giving you a tattoo!" you press the wet shirt onto the little paper to get the tattoo to stick.
"where'd you even get that?" he continues to inspect what you are doing
"it was in my bag... it's going to look so cute! you'll see." you peel off the paper to reveal the little hibiscus flower on his arm, glittering in the sunlight.
"yeah it is nice..." he grins, flexing his arm a little bit which makes you giggle.
"i have more! you wanna pick another? look," you show him the little pile of tattoos in your hands, he looks at your hand and points to the blue shiny dolphin one. "this one..."
"ohkay! where should i put it?" you roll up his sleeve and point to the bottom of his shoulder. "sure!" he nods and watches you concentrate on sticking it on.
"there! it's sooo cute!" you admire your work by squeezing his arm a bit.
"want me to put one on you?" he asks holding up another of the little tattoos.
"mhmm, so we can be matching!" you smile and bring your arm up so he can work on putting it on you. "this is very relaxing, we should do this more often..." he mumbles softly, the waves crashing in the background.
"i agree"
he peels back the wet paper to reveal your little glittery flower tattoo, you bring your arm up towards the sun so it shines.
"wowww, it's so shiny" you twist your arm around to see how the light bounces off the sparkles.
"now we are twins..." he brings his arm up next to yours making you both smile.
"yeah! i feel like a mermaid..." you wiggle your hips a little making pope smile.
"you are a mermaid, do want a book to read while i finish this?" he asks, handing one of the books he had in a little pile on the edge of the towel.
"mmhm shure..." you lay on your stomach, placing the book down on the towel to read in the sun while pope continues his studies, little birds flying over and sounds of the water crashing in the distance.

@steddieangstyaugust Day 14 - Wordy Wednesday: Lake
i’m challenging myself to keep all these at either 127 or 1,270 words each, see day one for more of an explanation!
The last time Eddie visits his Uncle Wayne, he meets a mermaid.
He’d gone under the water to fish up a bright coral pink rock he’d spotted from above, and happened to glance up, looking out into the lake from under the surface, only to meet a pale face dotted with what looked like freckles.
Inhaling the clear lake water, sputtering as he stands, the pale face joins him above the surface.
“He–” another cough, “Hello…?” he greets, questioningly.
The face only studies him further, looking him over from head to toe.
Eddie squats back down into the water, it’s much colder above the surface now that he’s used to the water’s chilly temperature.
A bright shimmering blue tail skims past his knee.
“Wow! You’re a mermaid!” he says, astonished, finally noticing the rest of the boy’s freckled torso just under the crystal clear water. “I’m Eddie, what’s your name?”
“Eee–” the boy frowns, “Eeadding?”
Eddie points to his chest, “Ed-dee.”
“Edddeee.”
“Yeah! I’m Eddie,” he points to himself again, “You are…?” points to the mermaid (merboy?)
“Ssst–” his face scrunches, he squeals some sort of noise under his breath, “SteeEEE–” He cuts himself off again, shrinking from the pained look on Eddie’s face.
“Sorry, that was just loud.. Is it Steeee…” Eddie wracks his brain, “Fin?” He completes the only name that comes to mind, wincing at ‘fin’ being the only syllable he possibly could’ve imagined while in the presence of a literal finned person.
Maybe Stefin giggles, lifting his tailfins out of the water.
Eddie grins back, “Stee-fin?”
Even More Possibly Stefin nods, a sharp-toothed grin stretching from ear to ear.
“Well Stefin, wanna help me look for rocks?”
Together, they scour the shallows of the water behind Wayne’s cabin for hours
They fill the whole grocery bag Eddie’d been toting around with him by time Wayne calls for him at sundown.
“I’m leaving for home tomorrow,” he tells Stefin, not knowing that would be the last time he’d ever see his friend, telling the beautiful creature “I’ll see you next year though! We come back at least once every summer, promise.”
The merboy had smiled so brilliantly at him, the freckles Eddie had just then realized were tiny blue scales shining in the evening sun. He didn’t want to leave.
But he had to. Eddie left.
Elizabeth got sick.
Al got arrested.
And in the time between the state of Tennessee gaining custody of him and being placed with Uncle Wayne permanently, Wayne sold his little homestead, settling in a two bedroom trailer in the heart of Indiana.
He understands it all now, of course, Wayne making the decision to move where he knew he’d have consistent work year-round was a necessity, but that first week, an already confused Eddie had asked after only a couple days in the trailer when they’d be going home to the lake.
“I don’t live there anymore Teddy. Live here now, in Indiana.”
“But what about the cabin?”
“Sold it, kiddo. Bought this place instead.”
Eddie’s eyes welled up for what felt like the zillionth time in a month. “But what about the stove? What about the bonfires? What about all the rocks I haven’t found?” What about Stefin? He thought to himself.
“Now son–kiddo, s’alright! We can always plan a trip to the UP if y’wanna.”
“Back to the cabin?” Eddie had asked, hopeful.
Wayne shook his head, “Probably camp at McLain instead.”
“That’s on Lake Soupier?”
Wayne snorts, “Yah bud, s’on Superior.”
Eddie took a moment to consider it, then nodded resolutely. “Okay Uncle Wayne.”
They never went back up to Michigan, let alone all the way up to the UP.
The first summer in Indiana was the only time Eddie asked.
“Sorry kiddo, can’t swing it this year. Maybe next time.” Wayne had said, and Eddie watched.
The whole rest of summer, into the fall, especially in the winter, the red-stamped envelopes would stack, then disappear whenever they would go into what Wayne liked to call ‘broke mode’.
Clearance aisle canned goods, store-brand everything, sandwiches packed into brown paper bags with little else.
Eddie grew up, failed his senior year once, twice, managing things the third, and leaving Hawkins for Chicago, hoping to make it big somewhere, somehow.
He manages to, but not in the way he originally thought, falling into club ownership after the man he’d been working for passed, leaving his business to Eddie.
Wayne gets sick when Eddie’s only 28; he drives down to Hawkins and stays with him about a month before he’s gone.
Eddie goes back to Chicago one Uncle short, goes back to work.
A week after Wayne is cremated, a notification pops up in his inbox. An alert he doesn’t remember setting.
Eddie grins, “You sneaky bastard.”
Wayne’s cabin and surrounding acreage have come up for sale.
It’s not even a thought, there’s no decision to be made. Eddie offers over asking and gets the keys handed to him on his 29th birthday.
He’s still a part owner of his club, gets a check every month that pays the mortgage, but his new day to day consists of fixing the cabin, wandering in the woods, and strolling along the shallows of Lake Superior, looking for rocks.
One day, while walking north along the shore, he stumbles across a hidden little alcove.
The rock face juts in from the shoreline, behind a trickling waterfall. It’s not huge by any means, but it looks like someone’s already came by and carved the sand here away, making a knee-high pool that connects the rocky face of the shore with the lake.
He skirts around the little pool, walking along a narrow strip of sand to the sparkling waterfall.
A shocked scream is yanked from his throat as soon as he peers into the alcove properly though, because there, doing a very astute impression of a dead fuckin’ body, is a merman, leant casually back against the wall of the cave Eddie’d just approached from, snoozing away.
The creature whips its head around at Eddie’s yell, teeth bared and a hissing screech slithering out from between his lips.
“Holy Shit! You’re a—”
The merman stops hissing, “Eddie?”
Eddie blinks at him. “Jesus H. Christ.. Stefin?” The blue tail, the shimmering freckle-like scales, the still horribly beautiful face. “You’re real.”
“You’re back— real?” Stefin asks, incredulous, “You didn’t think I was real?”
“I was a kid with an astounding sense of imagination, sue me.”
Stefin rolls his eyes, “Figures why you never came back to see me.”
Eddie blinks at him again, “What? No! No, I couldn’t! My mom— my dad– Wayne— It’s a long story, okay?”
Stefin harrumphs, sitting back against the stone wall.
“I still can’t believe this, I always thought I’d imagined you.”
“Well you didn’t.”
“Yeahh, I can see that now, thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
“Wha— nevermind, So, how’ve you been?”
Stefin’s head lolls around, he had to’ve just rolled his eyes. He stands up, “Why do you care? You’ll probably just leave again.”
“No, I bought the house my uncl—” Hang on, what?
Stefin shoves past Eddie to hop down onto the sand, avoiding landing on his feet in the water.
“You’re walking.”
“Amazing observation skills.”
“You’re naked.” And super hot, holy shit. Eddie averts his eyes politely.
“Again, very astute.” He grabs a bundle of cloth, pulling on a pair of shorts.
“How— Can I take you to dinner?”
“Why.” He pulls a shirt on over his head.
“To explain properly. And also because I missed you.”
Stefin turns, looks him over. His gaze softens minutely. “Sure. I’d like that.”
MY FIRST MER!FIC!! HALLELUJAH!!

Delicate
Yandere! Merman x Reader
Chapter One - check master list for chapter links
Contains smut, gore, and other heavy themes.
18+
—
Many deduce evil as malicious intent emanating from greed, others gleaned that evil is nothing more than a sin found from ancient scriptures. The most accepted opinion, at least in modern history, is that it derives from a natural instinct. A part of the brain rejects sympathy and empathy, creating what we know as immorality. The pernicious effects of greed and hatred gradually create malign people.
And thus; People—humans, are evil.
Catalina sat atop some of the rocks, staring into the pitch blackness of the ocean. She was tying her hair in a bun, singing lightly to old tunes she could barely recognize over the distance. The lack of a reflection made it difficult to tie around her loose curls. She dropped the hair tie and bent down to pick it back up, paying no mind to the jagged rocks. The alcohol seemed to be affecting her harshly as her vision staggered momentarily. Catalina felt a cold breeze behind her, causing her to immediately jolt up.
"(Y/N)...?" She whispered, turning her head from left to right slowly. A silence enveloped her for just a moment. She shrugged off the strange sensation and turned back to the ocean to see a blurry figure in the water. She squinted, unsure if it was only a shadow cast from the rocks or perhaps a large fish swimming idly.
"Catalina!" Your voice called out to her. You had climbed over the boulders and situated yourself right next to the drunken girl. You had decided to bring your shoulder bag over, a woven tote bag that was falling apart at the seams, and placed it just below your feet, only a short distance above the calm waves. "You took too long," you scolded, "What are you doing all the way over here?"
"I saw something in the water." She accused, looking forward again only to be met with a dark emptiness. You beamed your flashlight in the direction she pointed at.
"A mermaid?" You teased.
Catalina looked at you, suppressing a small laugh before a louder one took precedence. Giggles erupted between the two of you, light and airy and almost innocent. "You think mermaids actually exist?" Catalina asked.
You pondered for a moment, a hint of a smile dancing across your lips. "Maybe. I'd like it if they did."
"You think they'd like humans?"
You glanced at Catalina and then at the dusky horizon. "I think humans would hunt them."
Humans are evil.
Catalina's only response was a silent hm before she began recollecting herself.
"I miss Billy," she said, stumbling over the rocks.
"The boys aren't in the water anymore," you recalled, "They're eating."
Catalina waved at you to signify she understood, bear crawling over the rocks because she swore if she tried to stand it wouldn't be for long. She looked like a fish out of water, or perhaps Ariel when she first received her legs. You chuckled as Catalina's form disappeared into the night and turned to look at your own legs, dangling over the edge just above the water line. Your eyes travelled from the mossy rocks to the blackness of the water, the only light shining from your flashlight in small, circular sections.
You felt contented, gazing out at the nature you had overlooked for years. Had this area always been home to an astonishing beach such as this one? I might ask them to sneak in here more often, you pondered. The grim moonlight entering your view gave you an eery feeling. You never liked the darkness despite how comforting it could be. You shook your head and opened your bag.
Mermaids: A Guide to Communication, the unfinished book you were planning on returning back to the library was idly deriding you. Its torn, brown pages seemed empty despite the countless words fitted on the sheets. You rummaged through your bag before lifting it, letting the hard cover lay stagnantly against your fingertips. "Mermaids and sirens are one and the same," you read aloud. "Contrary to popular belief, mermaids are also capable of killing humans. Unlike sirens, however, mermaids do not use sound, but beauty." You began mumbling the words as you read further.
You managed to read through a few paragraphs more before stumbling across a chapter titled Cuisine. "No way you can eat mermaids!" You laughed, flipping through random recipes that you swore just swapped out regular fish for the word mermaid.
Humans are so fucking evil.
A splash and sharp noise resounded across from you, causing your head to shift in search of the one responsible. "Hello?" You called out, flashlight pointing to the other side of the boulders. "Cat?" No response. "Dean?" No response. "Richie..?" Yet again, no response.
Your nerves resonated within you, spilling out through the goosebumps littering your skin and the imperceptible shivers of your body. The sweater you sported was wet and sticking to your practically bare limbs, your damp hair was heavy and weighted as you tried to straighten yourself, focusing on the little shadows your eyes made up dancing across the darkness. The book mentioned mermaids having night vision, the males in particular being exceptionally good with their perception due to hunting, or something along those lines, you thought. You really wished you had that ability right now.
A bellow came from the same spot, guttural and animalistic with a few pitter patters echoing over the wet rocks. You froze, flashlight dragging from one side to the other in an attempt at getting a view of what the fuck you were hearing. When nothing came, you decided you weren't going to wait and find out. You hurriedly scrambled upward, balancing against jagged rocks as the alcohol's buzz just barely wore off your clumsiness. As you turned to fetch your belongings your foot slipped forward unexpectedly, kicking your bag into the water with a raucous splash. "Shit." You muttered.
It hadn't been dragged out to sea just yet. Instead, the denim material was situated just between two rocks, a small pool of water stirring as the waves encompassed more water around it. You flashed a light to where you had heard the noise and then back to your bag. Was it worth it? Probably not. But your laptop was inside and you would much rather deal with some cannibalistic hillbilly over having to drop hundreds of dollars, that you did not have, on a new one.
Placing your flashlight atop a patch of moss, you began pursuit.
You etched yourself as close to the edge of the turf as possible, zealously extending your arm downward while your free hand gripped onto an immobile piece of a boulder. You groaned as you continued stretching yourself downward, just a few more inches and you would be close enough to grab it. Please possible axe murderer, don't grab me until I get my laptop!
You definitely should have been taking this situation more seriously. Though in the back of your mind, you had already chalked the noise up to being a wild animal or perhaps your friends playing an awfully elaborate joke on you. Not to mention the alcohol still fuzzing your mind.
Therefore, when another pitter patter sounded beside yourself, you lacked any wits about you to react.
A webbed hand made quick use of your tousled hair, letting the soft (h/c) strands twirl around his fingers before yanking you off the rocks. You yelped, the fabric of your sweater entangling between your knees as you slipped before being able to garner yourself back. Your arms flailed hastily, attempting to push yourself further and prevent you from having your entire body fall into the serrated edges below. The rocks below had just barely made impact, your knee scraping against the side of one of the edges before you plummeted into the salty water. Though you weren't the best swimmer, you had enough understanding to know how to propel yourself upwards when underwater.
A breath of fresh air engulfed your burning lungs. A hazy mix of oxygen and carbon dioxide allowing your lungs to rest after the strain the water put on them. Your bleeding fingers took hold of one of the extended rocks, red covering the green moss.
Breathe in, breathe out; you practiced this for a mere few seconds before another guttural mewl reverberated against your ear. You could barely make out the translucent flakes of indigo nor the matching strands of hair, long and wet and wispy, that fell over your shoulders and down your back. A cold body pressed against your smaller one nominally. His hand snaked over your threat as the other pulled at your bruised arm, turning you over to take in a sight you never would have expected.
His talons, charcoal and coarse, dug into your skin, blood seeping from the cuts and surrounding his cuticles. The crimson liquid dripped into the ocean causing a contrast of browns and pinks faintly churning around his scales. Scales? You nebulously thought. The azure shade in his eyes darkened, a morose expression casting over his slitted irises. You scrutinized his scintillate tail. His pale, almost sickly, skin was embellished in beautifully permanent artwork, crusading down his arms and stopping at his wrists.
From the translucent little flakes trailing down his body to the webbed caudal fins; he looked inhumane and unnatural. Your wide eyes almost admired the freckles of light that reflected from his tail against the water. "Pretty.." You whispered, only to be met with his talons digging further into your arm. You screamed out a loud "Fuck!" before using ur free hand to take hold of his wrist as hard as your weakened state permitted. He eyed your quivering fingers, the purples and reds across your knuckles and joints presenting just how extensive the damage from the fall had been.
He noticed your chest rising as you heaved a notable breath. With every ounce of your being, you lunged yourself at him, a sharp jolt of pain coursing through your body and causing you to scream out. You bit the inside of your cheek, hoping to censor yourself from cursing at the strange being. His hand let go of your throat, instead opting to enclose behind you, his arms keeping a generous amount of space from you as he realized what you had done. You shoved moss in his face.
Yeah, not your proudest moment.
You could feel his torso judder as a laugh resonated. "Humans are so weak," was all he could sputter out, sharpened teeth taunting you as he continued to laugh at your expense. It was a mockery, like a dog playing with its' food.
And it seriously pissed you off.
You wound your better arm back, knuckles whitening into a fist as you punched the creature straight in the jaw. The sound of his teeth knocking against each other was just barely audible as his head thumped backward. Tears pricked at the corner of your eyes as you continued jabbing and striking him, each punch getting weaker and weaker as your adrenaline quickly waned. For a moment you hadn't realized his grip loosening around your waist, until a voice sounded from above and grounded you once again.
"(Y/N)?" Dean's voice was laced with concern, the light from his flashlight beaming against the rocks just above you.
"Dean.." You said in a hushed tone, almost unable to believe it was actually him. "Dean!" You repeated, this time louder. Could he hear you? You weren't sure. You kicked against the creature and ventured over the mossy boulders, waves flailing you back and forth. One leg made it over and just as you were about to prop yourself up, those familiar pale arms pulled you back in. "DE-" Was all you managed to spur out before you were submerged in the water once again.

Content: Mermaid Vash, GN! Reader, oceans, deep water, lifeguard reader, Reader almost drowns, blood, angst, Vash tries to introduce his favorite human to his brother but it.... does not go well.
Word count: 2.7k
Notes: Coming right up! I got like 3 anon asks for more Mer!Vash so I shall provide! Someone specifically asked for the reader to swim with Vash so I will be including that in this one :)) enjoy!
Previous Part | Next Part (coming soon)
You met with the merman nearly every day after that, always staying after your shift ended to spend some time with him. You had learned his name after he had arranged some seashells to form what seemed like letters. "Vash" is what you called him from then on out, and it seemed to be correct because he would respond to it, always letting out a happy chirp when you called him by his name.
Today, you sat in your lifeguard tower and watched the people on the beach. There weren't many people, as Fall had started to come and the coldness in the air was dissuading people from coming to the shore. Anyone who did come didn't stay too late, allowing you more time with your mermaid friend.
People were starting to clear out right now, as droplets of rain began to fall from the sky. The coolness of the water made you shudder, but you didn't mind. Today, you wore a red lifeguard jacket over your bathing suit, but most of your legs were still exposed. You knew your fishy friend would be excited about that.
As you watched the last of the people clear out of the beach, you looked out into the water, smiling when you saw a familiar head of blonde hair sticking out of the sea. When you made eye contact with him, he waved happily at you. You waved back and sat up, moving to climb down the lifeguard tower.
By the time your feet touched the sand, Vash had already pulled himself onto the rock by the shore. It had kind of become the spot that the two of you defaulted to. Today, he was splayed out across the rock, the droplets of rain falling against his skin as he stretched his arm above his head.
"Long day, huh?" You ask as you approach the rock, sitting next to him. He nodded, his eyes closed before he took in a long inhale through his nose, sitting up excitedly and looking at the bag you carried with you.
You had begun to bring things for him from the human world. It started when you attempted to eat a sandwich with him next to you on the rock. He had reached up and pulled a piece off without asking, stuffing it in his mouth. A look of delight had crossed his face as he reached for more, but you had pulled it away from him, telling him you would bring him one tomorrow.
You had kept your promise, bringing him different human foods pretty much every day. There were some he disliked, but for the most part he seemed to enjoy all of the things you'd bring.
Today, you reached into your large tote bag and pulled out a slightly smaller bag, climbing onto the rock next to him and reaching into the bag. You pulled out a glazed donut and handed it to him with a smile.
He looked at the sweet with curiosity, before placing his finger through the hole of the donut. You stifled a laugh as he looked at you expectantly.
"It's not a ring. It's food," You say as you pull another donut out of the bag, taking a bite of it and showing it to him, "See?"
His eyes widened and he mimicked your movement, biting into the donut. He chewed for a moment, a thoughtful look on his face before his eyes widened and he let out a very loud chirp, shoving the rest of the donut into his mouth.
"Woah! Be careful, or you'll choke!" You say as you pull the bag away when he reached for another one. He frowned and lowered his arm, slowly chewing the rest of the donut that was in his mouth and gently holding out his clawed hand for another one as he swallowed.
"That's better!" You chime as you reach in for another donut, placing it in his hand. He took a hold of it and took a slower bite, savoring the taste more this time. His eyes lit up with excitement and his tail flapped back and forth a bit. You couldn't help but smile.
"That good, huh?" You joke as you finish your donut, putting the bag away for now. He continued to eat his donut, being much more patient this time.
"I'll remember to bring more next time. They're called donuts." You say as you set your bag onto the sand, turning to look at him and seeing that he had finished his second donut. He happily rubbed his stomach before looking at you and chirping at you as if he was trying to tell you something. A soft frown settled on your face. You couldn't help but feel sad that you couldn't understand what he was saying. It seemed like he could understand you, but you struggled to understand the things he would try to communicate to you.
He noticed your frown and stopped chirping, letting out a sad sigh before he slipped into the water.
"W-wait! Are you leaving already?" You asked, concerned as you watch him slip into the water. He shakes his head and holds his hand out towards you. You look at his hand and back up at him before sliding your jacket off, letting the cool air settle on your skin.
"Alright, I'm coming... But if I get sick, it's on you." You joke before taking his hand, allowing him to pull you into the icy water.
You couldn't help but shiver as the cold sea washed over you. He noticed the movement from you and pulled you close. He wasn't very warm, but just the closeness alone was enough to warm your cheeks.
He chirped again and slowly started to swim, his arm still around you as he moved deeper into the ocean. You weren't sure what he was doing, but you trusted him. Eventually, he stopped. You could barely see the rock anymore as you glanced from the shore back towards him.
"What are you-" You're cut off when he pulls you under the water. Your eyes widening as you shut your mouth. The moon was bright today, despite the clouds of rain in the sky. You could see him in front of you, a bright smile on his face before he grabs your arm, pulling you close again. You couldn't help the butterflies in your chest at the close proximity, but he didn't seem to have a care in the world.
He pulled you deeper into the water, chirping as he swam. Eventually, you began to hear another, deeper chirping noise in the water. Vash chirped back happily, his grip on you loosening a bit. The deeper you went, the harder it was to see, but you could make out a shadow approaching the two of you.
Suddenly, you feel yourself being yanked harshly away from Vash's grasp. You flinched, almost letting out a yelp, but refraining as to not fill your lungs with water. You looked around anxiously, the dark water making it hard for you to tell which direction your merfriend was in. You felt a hand grab you, and for a moment you felt relief until you were pulled roughly towards the person who held your arm. Definitely not Vash.
You looked towards the person and see another merman. This one didn't seem to hold any of the kindness in his eyes that Vash normally did. His blue eyes were almost as cold as the water surrounding you as he bared his teeth at you, a scowl on his face. He had a long, silver tail and light blond hair that framed his face in the water as he moved closer to you, sniffing you before his grip on your arm tightened. You were starting to feel lightheaded due to the lack of air before you hear some angry chirping from behind you. You turned and Vash was there, grabbing the other merman's arm and trying to pull him off of you.
There was some growling and chirping exchanged between the two of them before Vash managed to pry the other merman off of you, frowning at him before grabbing your waist and pulling you back towards the surface of the water.
You were maybe a foot away from the surface when you felt something yank your leg. You slipped out of Vash's hand as you were dragged back away from the air you so desperately needed. You began to thrash around as the darkness of the depths consumed you again. You could barely see, but you managed to make out the silhouette of Vash swimming towards you. It seemed like he was struggling to catch up.
The burning in your lungs worsened as you were pulled further away from him. You reached out towards him, your fingers brushing his for a moment before the grasp around your ankle tightened, pulling you away from him. You could feel claws digging into your ankle, making you wince in pain. You continued to kick your legs and try to reach towards Vash, but it felt helpless. You felt like you were going to die. Black spots start to dot your vision as you lower your arm. The need to breathe was so bad, you knew you wouldn't last much longer.
You hear Vash chirp something, his voice sounding desperate and sad. You hear a quiet growl from the merman holding your ankle before the pressure on your leg was released. Your eyes widen and you begin to swim towards Vash, your legs burning as you held your arm out again. He grabbed your hand and pulled you towards his body, swimming as fast as he could to the surface of the water. The dark spots continued to cloud your vision as your grip on his hand loosened. You heard a panicked noise coming from him as he kept pulling you up, pushing you past the surface of the water.
You coughed and sputtered for air, the burning in your lungs not getting any better as you clung onto Vash for support. Your lungs ached. Your ankle hurt. Your muscles were sore. Vash seemed to notice your distress, quickly pulling you into his embrace, supporting you as you coughed and gasped for air. He began swimming back towards the rock, a disappointed look on his face as he rubs your back.
He had thought it might be a good idea to introduce you to Nai. He knew that his brother was cautious about humans and thought that, maybe if he showed him a good human that had been kind to him, Nai might change his mind and start to be more understanding.
He had not anticipated for Nai to be so aggressive. His brother was clearly curious, but went about testing his curiosity in the wrong way. He knew he had smelled blood in the water. Your ankle was definitely bleeding, and Vash couldn't help but feel it was his fault.
Vash swam up to your rock, attempting to lift you onto it. His lack of a second arm made it difficult for him to get you onto the rock, so he settled for leaning you against his body until you were able to pull yourself up on your own. The two of you sat like that for a while, his arm wrapped around you as you leaned against him, taking in shaky breaths and rubbing your eyes from the salt water.
"What..." you breathed nervously as you glanced back at him, "Who was that?"
He frowned at you before letting you go, allowing you to pull yourself onto the rock. He gathered a few seashells from the ocean floor before he popped up and pulled himself onto the rock as well, Using the shells to spell out something.
"Brother?" You asked as you looked at his shell writing. He nodded with a soft frown on his face before he gathered the shells again and started placing them again. 'Sorry'.
You looked at the words and touched his arm, gently rubbing your finger across his scars, "It's ok," you start, trying to sound as reassuring as you can without your voice shaking, "he seemed... Curious?" You pause, gauging his reaction before he nods. You nod back at him, a soft smile on your lips as you cough a few more times.
"It happens..." You say, looking down at your ankle and seeing a few puncture wounds in a circle around it. Dark red blood stained your skin, dripping down onto the rock. You frown and reach for your bag, shuffling through it trying to find your first-aid. Eventually you found it towards the bottom of the bag, your eyes widening when you see the small jewelry box next to it.
"Oh, yeah!" You chime as you pick up both boxes. You hand him the jewelry box and give him a smile as you begin to clean your wound. "Open it!" You grin, watching him as he opens the box. He gasps when he sees what's in the box, immediately letting out a happy chirp. He took out the necklace that was inside of it and showed it to you as if you hadn't already seen it.
"I know! I got it made with the pearls that you gave me," You say, reaching over and pointing at the large blue pearl in the middle. "This is the one that you showed me in the light. Pretty cool, huh?"
He nods as you resume cleaning your wound, wincing at the feeling of the alcohol pad against your skin before you start to bandage it. He watches you for a moment before looking back at the necklace, a soft smile on his face as he held it up in the moonlight.
You looked up at him with a gentle smile, enjoying the way he admired your necklace. You finish bandaging your ankle and turn your back towards him.
"Want to help me put it on?" You ask as you move any hair that might be in the way. He stares at your neck for a moment before nodding, reaching around you and clumsily closing the clasp of the necklace.
You turned back to him with a weary smile, exhausted from the events with Vash's brother.
"How does it look?"
His cheeks turn a light pink before he smiles and gives you a thumbs up. You nod and look down at the necklace, admiring the way it shines.
"Thank you again for the treasures you gave me the first time we met. That was very kind of you." You say as you fidget with the necklace. He tilts his head and nods, giving you a teeth-filled grin as his eyes shine as if he had an idea.
He slides off the rock and into the water, holding up a finger as if to tell you he'd be back. You gave him a thumbs up and watched as he swam away, letting out a sigh as you rub your sore ankle.
Vash swam towards the reef where he and his brother lived, a smile on his face as he started breaking off a few of the pieces of brightly colored coral. He had seen humans give each other colorful bouquets of some kind of plant and he wanted to give you something similar as a thank you for the human food and as an apology for his brother's behavior.
A low growl comes from behind Vash as he turns and sees Nai. Speak of the devil and he shall appear.
Nai begins to reprimand Vash for bringing a human so close to their home, his angry chirps raining down on Vash's ears as he looks away, a little ashamed.
Vash tries to explain that you weren't like the humans in the stories that Nai would talk about. That you were kind and generous. That you had been staying late at the beach every day, talking with him, and that you were simply different than other humans.
Vash's explanation didn't do much to ease Nai's frustration. The older twin glanced down at his brother's hand and saw the make-shift bouquet, a scowl crossing his face. He asked what he was doing and Vash's face flushed as he shook his head and swam past his brother, not answering him.
Nai watched him swim away, letting out an angry sigh. He knew that his brother was naive, but he hadn't realized it had gotten this bad. He quietly allowed his brother to swim away, though. They would be having a talk later about this human.

I work for a fandom based specialty store that is priced "higher" than other stores (for example clothing is usually between $28 and $65 depending on what it is). Our prices are usually the thing complained about most by customers which is something you need to complain to corporate about, but I digress. Some items we agree are overpriced while others we think are priced fairly considering what the items are and the details on it. Most of the stuff we have is exclusive to the company brand and can't be found on other sites. More often than not, the complaining makes us laugh.
Examples being:
A guy picking up an embroidered crewneck (that he was gushing about) and but then started complaining it costs $55, however the guy was wearing brand new Nike shoes, Nike sweatpants, and a Nike hoodie. Guy was also holding two boxes from the nearby shoe store that just had a shoe drop.
A lady complaining a Loungefly backpack is $90 but has The Tote Bag by Marc Jacobs over her shoulder. (Though seriously the amount of people with the Marc Jacobs bag is INSANE)
A guy complaining a Little Mermaid loungefly being $80 (he was going to get it for his wife who is crazy about The Little Mermaid) and left in a huff. However said guy was wearing $400 Ray Ban sunglasses (my boss noticed them and looked them up after the guy left).
You get the idea. Basically the concept of how we mentally decide if something is worth the price or not vs something else is interesting and funny to me. Like a $75 backpack that will be a gift for your WIFE is too much, but you can spend $400 on one pair of Ray Ban sunglasses???
(And this isn't a post complaining about people who are paycheck to paycheck making budget decisions. This is about people who have spent way more on an item that's more basic in design and definitely priced by brand, but a more uniquely designed item that's "costly" yet less than the other item is still too much for them)

I haven't talked about anything non-Slappy related in a while so heres something I thought I'd share!
A few months back, a restaurant was hosting a Spongebob Trivia Night. I entered along with my friend (for emotional support because I'm not going by myself. I'm a weenie)
They made the restaurant Spongebob themed! And some folks came dressed as the Spongebob characters! I would've done so but was too cold for me.
The game was fun! It was Spongebob trivia of seasons 1-7 plus a bonus round for quotes. Anyways we won, 48/50. I couldn't remember when was Leif Erikson's day and I couldn't remember SB's sidekick persona name in the episode Mermaid Man vs Spongebob.
Pain and suffering. Don't look at my failure😭😭
It was fun! I was filling the answers on our trivia sheet and doodling Slappy all over our answer sheet and she was marking the other team's test. I think it was balanced.
We also got Krabby Patties! Basically overpriced veggie burgers <3
Aaaand my friend got a sundae which is supposed to be modeled after the sundae Spongebob eats in Something Smells. The peanut dirt is a brownie, the raspberry sauce is the ketchup. I think it was missing the onions though...
I got a regular brownie <3
And our prize was 4 beers, a tote bag, and a $50 gift card <3
Neither of us drink so we gave the beers to the team sitting next to us. My bestie kept the totebag and I kept the gift card.
I need someone who fucks with Spongebob the way I do tbh. I mean someone who's REALLY insane about the show and all things related. Imagine doing Spongebob trivia like that. That includes ALLL of the seasons, spinoffs, comics, and behind the scenes trivia.

·˚ ༘ ꒱H20 - Forever Mermaids
˚◞♡ ⃗ Pairing: Soft!Matt x reader, Mermaid x Mermaid. ˚◞♡ ⃗ Summary: Matt and his gf grab food, later on y/n sneaks out to meet up with her Mermaid Friend Cleo. Little did they know someone was watching.
˚◞♡ ⃗ Warnings: Light cursing? ˚◞♡ ⃗ word count: 445
I walk up the cobblestone path, clutching my blue tote bag. I approach a blue door, I knock gently at the door, awaiting an answer. After a moment, Matt appears opening the door. “Hi beautiful.” He coos. He gently pulls me into a hug, I immediately smell his strong cologne. His cologne smells like the beach, my safe place. It's like he uses it for me, and I adore him for that. “Hi Matt! I was wondering if you wanted to go grab some food?” I questioned. His face immediately beamed with happiness. “Oh my gosh y/n! You didn’t even have to ask. Of course let's go get food!” He hummed. I smiled, “I am so glad you said yes!!” I thanked him.
TIME SKIP
We both make our way over to ‘Rikki's Cafe’. Once we arrive, we wait until we are seated, which is only a moment. We are greeted by our waiter and are handed our menus. I zone out for a little while, Matt takes me out of my trance, “Baby, what do you want to drink?” He asks. I look at the waiter, then back at Matt. “Uhm, I would like a Hazelnut Iced Coffee, with three sugars please.” I replied. The waiter nodded, “I will be back in a moment!” She says, walking away swiftly. I zone out again, thinking about telling Matt about how I am a mermaid.. But, what if he breaks up with me? No.. He wouldn't, right? A million thoughts race through my head. My thoughts were interrupted by Matt, “Hey. Sweetheart, are you feeling okay? You aren’t acting like yourself.” He commented, “Yeah, I-I'm doing fine just in my thoughts.” I mumbled. A look of concern washes over his face, “Alright, just let me know if anything is bothering you, okay?” He cautioned. I nod, right as he finishes talking, our drinks arrive. “What can I get you guys for food?” She questions. I look at her, “Can we just.. Have the check please?” I stated. Matt looks at me with confusion. The waiter nods her head, “Of course, I’ll go grab that right now.” She walks away. Matt sighs, “Okay, you invited me to get food but, you aren’t getting food? Are you feeling okay?” He worries. I sigh, “I am fine Matt I promise.” I reassure him. He nods, “Okay, sorry I worry about you so much.” He muttered, grabbing my hands and holding them softly. His elbow accidentally knocks his water all over my hands, seeing as I am a mermaid I had to leave immediately.
I grab my purse and jacket, leaving the cafe. “Where are you going?” He yells.”

Alrighty, so I got another ask regarding this but it’s time to show off the rest of my Flower Knows collection!!!
Drum roll please-
I’m gonna start off with some of the “merch” I get before I do the makeup. I already showed off the Never’s Shop gifts so I’ll skip going over those again.
I have 8 of these hand mirrors (I actually got another one of the white circular mermaid compact mirrors but I keep that at work)! Majority of these are just freebies from buying a certain amount of items, from an all-in package, or just a free gift since I have lots of points saved up. The only one I actually bought for the mirror specifically was the black Little Angel one!
I got these three boxes to go along with the makeup. The purple one is from the Violet Rococo All-In package, but the pink one was a stacked reward gift from their anniversary. One of the winter stacked gifts was also a chocolate leather tote bag and it’s pretty cute and large! Also, during their 7th anniversary they had a pink handbag, it’s super cute but it’s also in my closet for now and I’m a bit lazy to grab it (so I attached a picture of it).
Now onto the makeup!!
These are my eyeshadow palettes (left) and my blush + setting powder + application brushes (right). My favorite palette is the pink swan ballet one, but I use the Little Angel palette for its black eyeshadow to use as my eyeliner (I have really sensitive eyes so this is the only way to really wear it without tearing up).
And these are the rest! On the left is both the normal and Violet Strawberry Rococo lip creams. The Violet ones are actually glossy so they’ve become my new faves. In the middle is my Moonlight Mermaid lipgloss. And on the right is my Swan Ballet lipstick, the black + pink Moonlight Mermaid liquid eyeliner, and the Cherry Love lip glosses, the Chocolate Wonder-Shop mascara, and the Swan Ballet liquid eyeshadow!
This is my current collection so far, and I plan on getting some of the new Midsummer Fairytales collection too!

in case this breaks containment at all the vibe here is for more like a renaissance faire or craft show than an anime or gaming convention. i am dragging our mermaid pod into this century and we are gonna have MERCH OPTIONS. I already sell some small jewelry and decorative things, this stuff is more about items I’d be outsourcing/ordering rather than making myself.
#polls#merchandise#material desires#if you are a vendor and have opinions on what sells best i’d also love to know#i’m just gonna start small with like 1-2 things#and in future seasons as more in as i see how stuff sells#ramblings
