It’s taken me two years to finish this first Creative Writing Degree module and it’s been a struggle from start to finish. Even in the Post Office the kids were screaming at me. I’m so pleased I managed to get it finished though. Fingers crossed for a pass in November 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 #oca #opencollegeofthearts #creativewriting #creativewritingdegree #bahons #degree #studying #assessment #maturestudent (at Maidenhead) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoPEH3DAPvP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=yytlcypuvira

Reposting this painting from a few years back - it's a closeup of an assignment I had in Uni to draw a natural still life. The cactus was my favourite part, hence this snippet 🌵 Supplies: Chalk pastels and acrylic paint. 🎨 #itsgreattocreate #opencollegeofthearts #succulentart (at Chipping Norton - Gateway To The Cotswolds!)

Thank the lordy lord, all the assignments for my first module are done! Got two months to edit them and submit them for assessment. Such a weight off my mind (for the time being!) #maturestudent #student #creativewriting #oca #distancelearning #opencollegeofthearts (at Bray, Berkshire)

I&P - Pt 2 - Research - Rp2.1 - Part 2- Working with repetition - The next 2 artists
I&P – Pt 2 – Research – Rp2.1 – Part 2- Working with repetition – The next 2 artists
I received some positive feedback about my first blog on the artist list that I’ve been given to research for this part of Ideas and Processes. So, I’m going to carry on in the same vein and after batting off offers to socialise I’m sat in Costa on a Sunday morning writing my personal views on 2 more artists.
Whilst doing my research I notified that although their work is very different they both…

Visit to the Nordic Akvarellmuseet (Swedish Watercolour Museum)
Visit to the Nordic Akvarellmuseet (Swedish Watercolour Museum)
In August I went on a trip to Sweden, we actually went to got to a music festival, not the big one being held in Gothenburg but a small local festival called Frivolton Skärhamn. I’d never been to Sweden before and I never easily miss a chance to visit and tick off a new country. As an added bonus, when we got to the festival site, set in a beautiful bay we found the Nordic Akvarellmuseet. I was…

I&P - Pt1 - Pj1 - Ex 1.2 - Personal Experience - The Map
I&P – Pt1 – Pj1 – Ex 1.2 – Personal Experience – The Map
Task: Draw a map of your journey. Make it large enough to add the items collected on the journey.
Mine was quite a long journey so I knew I needed to make quite a large map. Back in A Textile Vocabulary I’d used a roll of lining paper as a large canvas for drawing flowers. I had enjoyed this exercise and I thought it could work well now.
Using some sticky backed I masked out a pathway on a taped…

OCA - Developmental Sketchbook Day
OCA – Developmental Sketchbook Day
Just home after a fabulous day at Manchester Art Gallery with OCA tutor Priscilla Edwards.
I’m really hoping that OCA will hold more of these types of days. It was an excellent mix of gallery visit and practical workshop.
It all began with an hour spent looking at the Kate Haywoodexhibition with our sketchbooks making marks and recording the elements and attributes of the pieces that appealed to…

More Joining
It’s been a while since I’ve blogged any college work, I have been doing the odd bit of sampling but I’ve been slow to get the details on here. Assignment 2 has yet again been a block for me. Once I sit down and get started I’m okay but getting in there and getting to work is a slow process of nagging and kagolling. So what did I do?  Firstly I had a play with some strange objects to create a…

MMT - Pt2 - Pj1 - Ex1 - Joining straight flush edges
MMT – Pt2 – Pj1 – Ex1 – Joining straight flush edges
Faye’s feedback suggested that I try working an idea in a methodical fashion and it’s a good suggestion. I’m not very happy with the results of my first go at being more methodical but I did like the process. I replicated my metal hanger way of joining a flat edge finishing off the edges in a rather haphazard and random way.  Before I quite liked this mixed up method but I decided it’s actually…

MMT - Pt1 - Pj3 - Ex3 - Using Hot Water - Part 3
MMT – Pt1 – Pj3 – Ex3 – Using Hot Water – Part 3
The one thing about this strange bubbly mounded bits of synthetic shiny material is that they work really well when put over another strong interesting surface. If like me you like looking at things from different angles and indifferent lighting situations then this is perfect for you. I laid one of the samples over a piece of bright yello scrim. The shadows are really appealing. The shapes are…

MMT - Pt1 - Pj3 - Ex3 - Using Hot Water - Part1
MMT – Pt1 – Pj3 – Ex3 – Using Hot Water – Part1
Polyester fabric? Uck! It’s horrible stuff but you need it for this exercise. The only other time I’ve used synthetic fabric was when using transfer paints. You do get some lovely bright images but the fabric is just so unpleasant to handle.  I was not enthused about this exercise but I chose this one over the heating and burning exercise because I’m unsure about these as well because of the…
