On December 28th of last year, Myeongdong Tourist Special Zone in Seoul, Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, and Haeundae Beach, a representative landmark in Busan, were selected as the Secondary Free OOH advertising zones by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety!
The free display zone is an area that allows the free installation of Out-of-Home(OOH) advertising media by drastically relaxing regulations on the shape, size, color, and installation method of OOH advertising media. Similar examples in other countries include Times Square in New York City, Piccadilly Circus in London, England, and Dotonbori in Osaka, Japan.
In Korea, the COEX area in Gangnam, Seoul, was designated as the First Free OOH advertising zone in 2016, and 20 digital billboards with different sizes and shapes from conventional billboards are currently installed and operated.

Shizuoka is responsible for 83% of all plastic model kits produced in Japan. But most people were not aware of this fact. Despite being an unrivaled production base for plastic models, Shizuoka was facing a crisis due to annual declines in tourist numbers.
Advertising firm Hakuhodo Kettle proposed branding the city by leveraging Shizuoka’s unique status as a plastic model producer.
This meant establishing ‘Shizuoka, the city of models’ by changing all the components that make up the city’s landscape into plastic models.

Facilities such as mailboxes, public telephones, benches, streetlights and popular photo locations were transformed to resemble plastic models prior to assembly.
By adding a layer of sustainable practicality on top of the visual spectacle, Shizuoka built a true ‘plastic model city.’

‘The Model City 1:1 Scale’ campaign helped Shizuoka establish a unique urban brand as a producer of plastic models and go viral on social media.
In addition, awards in the MAD STARS 2023 Place Brand Stars and Outdoor Stars categories saw Shizuoka become a success story in city branding.

Hanwha Group came up with a revolutionary method to tackle the bee crisis.

Japanese manga publisher KODANSHA was in a bind due to regulations prohibiting the use of violent images in advertising.
The company wanted to promote its new manga series The Fable, but getting around the strict advertising rules proved difficult due to the nature of the action comedy genre.
In partnership with advertising firm TBWA\HAKUHODO, KODANSHA came up with the most anime-style solution to beat the regulations and promote the series.

TBWA\HAKUHODO’s idea was simple. They released OOH in which all the guns were replaced with mackerels – the protagonist’s favorite food in The Fable.
Instead of a style that naturally blended the mackerels with scenes in the manga, they used rough and obvious photo-shopping to make it intentionally awkward.
And the campaign’s cheekiness did not end there. TBWA\HAKUHODO went big by adding a provocative message to all of the OOH.

With an overwhelming screen size of 154.7m², a unique curved structure and 4K resolution, the massive cat appears very realistic.
