Anyway I redrew Buggie’s Culinary Crucible card because I was REALLY not happy with it originally. My shading was super harsh and stuff.

Also I was thinking about how none of the canon characters pull their HAIR BACK in these cards. Like ppl with short hair are fine but JAMIL. PUT THE BANGS AWAY /hj

So Buggie pulled its hair back AND took out the dice earrings for Culinary Crucible because it knows proper cooking etiquette. Which is REALLY funny to me simply because of How Buggie Is Usually

Shock has learned a lot about witches from her local coven. Witches are abundant in Halloween Town, which some say is a sign of a healthy community.

Barrel has learned a lot about ghouls from the various packs that frequently breeze through Halloween Town. Belladonna in particular likes to keep him updated on the very latest when she visits.

Not much is known about imps due to their solitary nature. Lock is the only imp to live in Halloween Town, which is a source of insecurity for him. When Lock was brought in it was viewed as a bad omen because If even imps can fall prey to monster hunting now, we're in bad shape.

My followers suggested shalliope and either lockbarrel or barrelock which I agree with but I never updated the tagging. Perhaps one day I will. For now, all ship art is under the tags calliope or lb respectively.

No, Barrel is the most relaxed of the three. Lock often feels self conscious, though he hides it with abrasive overconfidence.

Yes! He is beloved by the trio and loves them back. You can often find drawings of him in Calliope's tag since she is a huge dog fan.

The more Lock comes to believe it, the more he enjoys hearing it. It's something they're slowly working into private moments.

Shock is annoyed by Lock's stupidity but tries to be as uninvolved as possible in anything regarding their situationship. She also occasionally cuts Lock slack when bad reactions are rooted in Oogie trauma. Since Lock felt terrible about it and Barrel wasn't mad, there was nothing Shock felt she needed to add.

Probably on the roof or in his room. He was emotionally exhausted / embarrassed by the whole ordeal. Barrel keeps close to him the next few days as they talk some stuff out and comfort each other.

Wendell and Wild’s one year anniversary had passed, but it wasn’t lost on me. I would like to share some words, my feelings for a moment

At the beginning of November last year, I had simply wished to watch something on Netflix for the first time in forever. I’m not much of a movie or tv show person-I’m more of a gamer. (Unless it’s a stop-motion film)

Anyway, I saw Kat’s picture on the front of the movie and my jaw felll to the floor because of, “how the HELL, did I not hear of this movie?” Which I’m only a little bit happy about because I like being surprised (ONLY when it comes to finding a good movie,) and in this case, was absolutely absolutely bewitching. Beguiling. Refreshing. but people in NETFLIX should not have thrown this to the wind. This can actually help people! I read that it was made by Jordan Peele working with Henry Selick, a duo I would never have imagined but understood from their works that they would be, a wonderful pairing. And I find myself lucky that I hadn’t heard people online say that it is like Coraline because it’s not… It is BEEEEETTEEERRR! 😍 IT IS LOVE! It is my childhood fever dream doused in chocolate and fucking cheeeese *slaps table* iwantmoreofit

It was quite an emotional roller coaster of a movie. It’s one of those films that you’d say, is an “experience” as opposed to a “story.” Kat and Raul are BY FAAARRR characters that I would have liked to see on television in my childhood years. Instead of Johnny Test, Chowder, Total Drama-anything-it’s-all-the-same, and Ed, Edd, and Eddy. 😤 Kat and Raul are people that I’ve been surrounded by in my life that I prefer, and have BEEN, in my life. So much so that I struggle to call them “characters” instead of people. And I can relate and see my child selves in both Kat and Raul, A LOT. (dressed in a punk style and grew up with and enjoy quite a bit of punk music. used to have a Mohawk when I was Kat’s age! There’s more but I don’t want to say,) It was terrifying for a bit because it made me feel like I don’t exist. I can’t

I cried when she found her source, her key. And gave herself a hug and how it became one with her. The “shadow Kat.” I think. My passed therapist calls a “source” or a “core” that holds trauma, the key. 🥹 That was so intrinsically true and relative to someone doing trauma work that I’m immensely grateful. Exists. In a movie like this.

My criticisms of this movie come out of love for this movie. If I didn’t like it I wouldn’t have cared to critique it. All I wanted was more, generally. More time, because there’s a lot of interesting things that were alluded to, but left out. And that’s all!

So my art is this time, this is an art journaling thing that was never supposed to be one but I lost control and before I knew it, realized what it was becoming. It’s chaos. I’m trying not to be embarrassed of that, eeehhhhhhhh 😓 mrrp, *squint* *chirp!* I had to improvise in a way that felt right.

I drew and painted Kat, and drew her almost entirely without reference. She’s not crying because of Raul! Absolutely NOT. I was going to do something with her but didn’t have the space so I made this as a practice and, I am obviously still needing to get better at painting her. I am so much happier with how I draw her now. I drew Sweetie because I needed some sort of guardian before I continue. (She was so easy) And then, this genderbent Oogie Boogie was stuck in my head and I drew and painted her too, all villainous and imposing. It made for a great challenge I’d say

Hoody Hans headcannons?

Yes of course, my good friend Hands.

I know the wiki says everyone in the Rubber Fishes is goofy and incompetent except for Sunny, but I like to think that he’s pretty competent. It’s just that Sunny is the only one who's serious about her work. Hans moreso just isn’t interested in what the crew does most of the time. He’s bored by how Horace seems to only want to pick fights with the Laughingstocks these days and wishes they were doing more adventurous stuff.

He’s friends with Sunny because they’re the most chill people on the crew.

Likes to go out on long fishing trips by himself because everyone else gets on his nerves.

He likes to fish by swatting the surface of the water and skewering fish on his hooks. Kind of like how a bear fishes!

His hooks are actually more like sickles. They come in handy when he forages.

He moves around in uncanny ways that make it seem as though his body isn’t like a human’s. Like for example, it looks kind of like he glides around instead of walks. He can also contort himself in weird ways.

I was exploring DeviantArt and I found the original first drawing of the Rubber Fishes, by the person who created them, and the description said that he joined the crew because he committed some mysterious crime and is trying to evade the authorities, and yeah, that sounds about right.

I kind of like the mystery surrounding him, so I don’t want to try to overexplain what he is or what his backstory is, but judging by how bugs crawl out of his sleeves, I think he’s either a bug-infested zombie or a human-shaped bug colony hivemind (like Oogie Boogie from Nightmare Before Chistmas). Or possibly some unheard-of Abyssian creature.

How do I end Halloween with? An emotional group hug featuring my mascot Stickybutter, Oogie Boogie and myself as a red-eyed tree frog, since everyone seems to gain a soft spot for this lovable monster. All puns aside, yes. I am aware the voice actor behind Oogie Ken Page passed away in his sleep at the age of 70 within his home in St. Louis. Yes, I am a month late to this, but I wanted to do something wholesome to ensure this drawing is a tribute to what he did during launch of the Nightmare Before Christmas in cinemas.

This won't be the last time I'll draw plenty of Oogie Boogie stuff, but I guarantee that wherever the talented Ken Page is, he's in a better place. In truth, thanks for making Oogie Boogie a lot more colourful, lively and bouncy. And always remember: I'll never go nowhere.

ok maybe I’m out of the loop but gourmand is so underrated, yeah you encounter hll as gourm but usually people focus more on hll than gourmand, so I decided to draw him :]

The evil looking gourmand is actually a headcanon I thought of. Gourmand’s shape reminded me of Oogie Boogie from Nightmare Before Christmas, and I came up with a game that Gourmand and the clan’s pups would play.

It’s called The Boogeyman, and it’s basically a mix of tag and hide and seek, except Gourmand would usually play the seeker/boogeyman role and really get into it. Doing disney villain laughs and creeping around to make the pups laugh. He’s actually really good at theatre stuff! I like to think he would sing the Oogie Boogie Song and absolutely crush it!!

And the last little drawing is Gourmand teaching post-HLL Hunter how to cook on a grill :) universal dad vibes

Voiceplay Visuals: Moana Medley

For the second part of this series of mine, we're going with Voiceplay's most popular video on YouTube (and Facebook) ever: their Moana Medley! Released on the 19th of August, 2017 (just a few days shy of Geoff's 37th birthday), it currently has over 44 million views on Youtube, and it truly is impressive in its arrangement and vocal performance. But I'm not here to talk about vocals, I'm here to talk about the visual stuff! So let's go!

Group shot! I love how Rachel is wearing a cute red(?) tropical dress, and the others... barely even try with their outfits 😂

Layne is wearing long pants (or three-quarters at least), but he's at least wearing a "surf Cali" shirt, so there was at least some thought in it. Earl I will allow, as he's just kinda got Beach vibes here ngl (I think it's at least partially the hair). Eli kinda looks more like he's ready to go play golf, and Geoff is wearing a hoodie! Geoff, dude... 😅

I was thinking about this video a while ago and was like "wait, who did J play again?" and then I had to remind myself "oh right, this was before he had become a full-time member (for about 3 or 4 years) (but after Tony left the group to focus more on Pattycake Productions and behind-the-scenes stuff)

Kind of a lucky coincedence that this video was the one that introduced a lot of people to Voiceplay (before Oogie Boogie's Song at least), since they actually tell you in the video who everyone is and who they're representing from the movie.

"How many pounds of sand did we use to create our fake beach?" Voiceplay asks in the description. I don't know, but i'm guessing Quite A Lot.

I said in another post that I was really tempted to do a thing studying the way Geoff's hair has changed over time and the various styles it has taken, and screw it, I'm doing it via this series! And this is what I mean by it:

A quick trace over a screencap (using a drawing app I have on my laptop), plus a few colour-picks from his hair (because I swear the shade of brown changes a lot just from the lighting alone). Anyway, we continue onwards!

Layne was in charge of both the music arrangement and the video for this cover, so like, did he cast himself as Hei Hei? 😂 He could have been "Mini Maui", who is another nonspeaking character, but would have made more sense for his singing/rapping bit, but hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing! He makes a great Hei Hei 😁

(Also the fact that Layne's character card thing is orange, and this was before he earned the title of Carrot Lord! The foreshadowing!)

Geoff with not-yet-shoulder-length hair (i.e. Younger Geoff) is a different vibe to long-haired Geoff honestly. I very much love him as he is today, of course I do, but I still very much enjoy him here too <3

It's a freaking crime that they cut away from Geoff on the "I can't" part of the "I'll never hide, I can't, I'm too shiny!" line tbh /j

Geoff wears a watch a lot in videos (and since the last few years at least, he usually has something on the other wrist too), but for this video he apparently decided to not wear a more regular black or brown watch, and instead went with something a lot more, well, Shiny! (low-key drama queen vibes ngl, love that for him)

The "Know Who You Are" section is absolutely beautiful in every single way, 10/10, no notes

Love Rachel's dancing, she's a brilliant performer, both on mic and in front of the camera!

This might not be one of the biggest displays of "hey check out what I/we can do!" for any of the Voiceplay members out of all their videos, when it comes to vocal ranges and stuff, but it's still a great one to watch, and I'm happy that it did so well on social media! It's got the playfulness and silliness that has always been and continues to be part of Voiceplay's overall "brand", while still being a really good production and arrangement.

Decemberween '23 — This Year's ASMRtists

If you’re not familiar with it, ASMR is an abbreviation meaning ‘autonomous sensory meridian response,’ a science sounding name for a reaction that some people get to a range of stimuli. This effect can be caused by a whole host of triggers but at least in the community on Youtube there’s a body of people who engage with it because of its ability to affect relaxation and restful mindsets. If you’re not familiar with what this looks like, it looks like a bunch of people making long videos with a strangely hushed affect.

And I watch and listen to them, to help me relax!

If you are familiar with it, hey, here’s some of the artists I’ve been watching this year, as the ASMR effect shifts around in my head and how I respond to it. One thing that people who don’t experience ASMR might not realise is that you can rely only on the effect being modestly unpredictable. Some stuff may cause it reliably for months and then suddenly, nothing. It pushes me to partake of new things regularly, and to that end, every year, I try to look at what artists are ‘new’ to me that I haven’t mentioned before.

Here then are four artists that I started paying attention to this year:

I feel like I’ve watched more Amy Kay, like maybe I watched her years ago and I never got around to mentioning her. That’s probably likely, because she has an entire queer-read story about you being some variety of monarch, who started out being referred to as a dude, and then as the story evolved, the woman you’re talking to starts referring to you differently. Then eventually the series splits into two threads, with one half referring to ‘my lord’ and the other ‘my lady.’

Oh and then a cult got involved, it was an interesting story.

Anyway, Amy Kay does a lot of different types of video. Some of it is very mundane, some of it is very fantastic, and you’ll know if it’s the kind you respond to. Also, and this shouldn’t be a thing, but in the ASMR space, there’s a common responsiveness to media trends. When a Harry Potter movie comes out, a lot of people will make Harry Potter themed videos. It’s just a heavy trend, and I try not to hold it too much against the artists who are algorithm-responsive, but I am grateful when I see people fade out on it.

Amy Kay does have some videos about Harry Potter content, but it seems to be a thing of the past for now.

ASMR My Friend Brushes and Plays With My Hair

Cosmo is an ASMR puppet. Cosmo is not unique as an ASMR puppet, but Cosmo is a puppet that does ASMR. And it’s a big friendly kind of puppet. You’re not going to see stuff that you won’t see from other ASMRtists by the way. Cosmo does roleplays about Recent Events (hi, Barbie Movie Tie In moment) and Cosmo does hand-focused gameplay videos (like Solitaire and Rush Hour), and Cosmo even does draw-along and ramble videos. In every way, Cosmo creates the most typical and normal content any middle of the road ASMRtist can produce, except for the alienation that comes from Cosmo being a puppet.

Alienation is important to me in ASMR. Roleplays don’t want to be realistic because they can’t be. Sometimes there are people who aim for normal, everyday kind of vibes, or expected behaviours, but because ASMR content is fundamentally weird (why are we all whispering?), the closer it gets to normalcy, the less likely it is to land for me. Give me something weird, give me something that recognisably can’t be real, and let me patch the gap in reality myself.

Cosmo’s great, and Cosmo isn’t real, but Cosmo exists and is my friend.

I’m really selfconscious about my ASMR habits, especially since a lot of the ASMRtists I follow are very attractive women, some of whom are markedly younger than myself, and that makes me feel… oogy. It does mean that when I find myself responding to an ASMRtist who isn’t a pretty white girl, I try to make sure I mention it, and share their work. In this case, ASMRdido got on my radar through long, patient, whispered explanations of mathematical game concepts – particularly, the Monty Hall problem.

The other thing he does that I find useful for study is long (long) videos of playing a softly sounded, wood-and-velvet game called Close the Box. Close the Box is a great solo game because it underscores how little pieces you need to make a game out of something and still make it engaging.

And finally, Lloyd’s ASMR is a channel that’s… I think deliberately weird. Lloyd really turns up the ambient sound so if you don’t like the SHHHHH of an empty room, you might not like these. They’re slow, deliberate videos, and usually you can see the structure being something Lloyd has props for, reiterated in a new form. Door to door salesman, visiting a store, visiting an old style store. It’s a bit like a comprehensive library in that if you like one thing you can probably find ten or twenty versions of the same thing, even if they don’t make sense. Like you don’t get door to door bakery salespeople.

Lloyd is someone I like because of his gentle demeanour and I like the way that I, forgive me, don’t have to pay much attention. There’s not going to be a really funny joke or something I need to respond to, the way that (say) survey question videos invite me to. I know what I’m getting and I know there’s a reasonably large quantity of it, but also that it’s not about to impress me. It’s just sweet background noise and I’m not going to need to be afraid of something shocking or funny happening.

anyway so shoshi (name may be changed-im iffy on the name ngl) is based off of shock (nightmare before christmas) i have the other two from the trio and oogie (neon haired guy i’ve drawn a few times) too just need to make a proper intro for them

anyway then his cat familiar z-whos based off of zero

so shoshi is technically supposed to be like white pale but i don’t like it as much so he’s just a normal amount of pale

backstory stuff is a wip but the very base of it is:

shoshi comes from and kind of is (?) a ✨grim reaper family✨ living in halloween town (in which most ghosts will avoid him naturally..dude is almost completely oblivious to that fact)

his childhood wasn’t too bad-growing up he was a rule follower, had good grades, had a few friends-overall good kid so not much happening

the only bad thing being he has a goofy (/j) homophobic and transphobic father who was like hella transphobic

shoshi is trans and slightly fruity-so you can imagine how that went-basically being the bright happy child to being almost cut off from his father-eventually shoshi gave up on trying to get accepted by his father and instead said it was a phase and moved on-this being the main reason he grows his hair out

(when asked about going to nrc he just said he heard it was a good school and tricked them into thinking he was a dude)

anyway back to the being a grim reaper-z was a street cat that shoshi had befriended as a small child basically growing up with z- this cat was also supposed to be the first soul he would help guide-shoshi just didn’t (in a more dramatic way but that’s for me to write when i’m not still figuring everything out) and instead made z his familiar-z is linked to shoshis feelings and it’s rare to see the two having different reactions (so z would have to have a very strong emotion for it to show) which is kind of morbid now that i think about it but i swear it’s more of a in sync kind of thing 😭

shoshi has very sensitive skin to the point where when going outside he has to use a sun umbrella (hence the being pale) which wasn’t much of a problem with halloween town being very cloudy and dark but now in nrc is quite off putting with the quiet and mildly reserved nature along with the sun umbrella

he often takes the role of being responsible for his other friends often scolding them for reckless behavior

shoshi is most definitely a cat dad kind of dude

he and z will give someone the most judgy look if they do something stupid

..and then cover for their ass five seconds later

definitely into darker fashion styles (so like alt or whatever wearing a bunch of dark colored celestial clothing is)

I’d imagine he’d be enthralled by dandelions and other such things and would be like wym ppl kill them. As for what those flowers mean TO HIM at least, I think it represents his appreciation for things that would otherwise be disposed of. (Like himself lol)

He’s restricted to his place of creation (a abandoned warehouse) and can only stray so far from it for small amounts of time. He has a jovial and mischievous demeanor when he has company, but he doesn’t like people seeing him kinda bummed when they have to leave. Extremely lonely literal wet box of a man.

🌌MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them? OK I love breaking down stuff like this, so it’s long winded and I’ll keep it under a readmore cos I have a lot to say. >:)

So around early 2020, I wanted to do a AMV, but didn’t have any idea of what sort of creature I wanted to sing it. I sort of just started getting ideas with each frame. (The VERYFIRST TG design was just this random skull, and by frame 5 I was like, that’s boring actually. Let’s make it a alligator skull with deer horns glued on it) and thus the very first TG drawing was born.

I kinda wanted him to have a type of oogie boogie personality, so that’s where initially I started getting inspo from. I was on my making clay figure fix during that time, so I made one of him.

After that, I fixed up a pattern for his shirt.

It was after his head fell off the figure that I decided to use that instead of drawing his skull (I hate drawing skulls LOL) so it benefited me PLUS it looks p cool imo!

His human form that he gains later on from a experiment gone wrong is based loosely on Ash and how he looks in ash vs Evil dead LOL
