I updated my site. Then got a Mac. & realized I never uploaded from my Pc. Done months later! #OutOfDarknessComes is a #Lightpainting project that preceded #OODCChroma and exhibited at @whitespace814 a few years back. If you ever have questions about why my enlightenment doesn't look like "love & light" or "stepping into the light", refer to this. #DarknessIsFertile #Photography #BlackMagic #FineArt #ContemporaryArt #BlackArt #BlackWomenPhotographers (at Atlanta, Georgia)

Just after our first few takes last night, Beyoncé decided to drop the Blackest, realest video this year just to shit on “popular” culture, useless authorities, & random mad white folks while uplifting the fuck out of Southern Blackness, our culture, our aesthetic, our art & dance, our women, our inherent power, our childhoods, & our resilience.
We, of course watched it multiple times before sharing, taking in all the symbols, catching a new line to relate to on each listen.
This, just after speaking on film about funding Black women artists in the South, funding Chroma in particular.
I’m no Beyoncé, but I most certainly wake up in all my Creole Blackass glory each day. & after celebrating the video, I got back to work with my partner, Anicka Austin, also a Black Southern woman to create this dope project.
Chroma isn’t a Black-exclusive work. We have very consciously chosen our collaborators, their roles, and continue to work in a way that will make this project effective. What Chroma is, is a Black-Southern-woman-healer led project that blends art with ancestral healing.
Chroma is a collaborative multimedia exhibit using photography, performance art, and installation to highlight the power of color within healing practices. We explore each color of the chakra system through these mediums & create immersive experiences for our audience to activate each chakra.
As professional artists, some of this work is led by research and skill. But, as Black woman healers, a good portion of it is informed by ancestral knowledge as well. We inherently know that the popular chakra systems are rooted beyond Eastern philosophy and we are digging deep to make this project a healing one while making it look flawless. Because aesthetics.
While we get this funding, Imma stay over here creating work that centers us, catering to my people, history, culture, and gleaming in all my Black Magic.
