I can't honestly say something that hasn't been said before, because this ship is massive. And for a good reason. Its just the epitome of all the things I like. Rivals to friends to lovers, red and blue, opposing yet complementary personalities, good chemistry, the list goes on and on.

Its just that mutual respect yet banter that always gets me. I've TRIED abandoning ship, trust me. But this ship was just tailored to my tastes, and i cant get rid of the brainrot so much that it has become a problem :)

2. TAILSMO:

MMMMM THE PAIN. I love this ship because its so innocent and cutsey while being absolutely depressing!

Cosmo deserved SO MUCH MORE than what she got, and to this day it makes me so sad we never got Sonic X season 4 in where Cosmo comes back as a robot or something. The seed she left at the end too! They Absolutely wanted to bring her back and i will forever be sad about it.

Just the duality of the same concept but diferent attitude about it.

They're both guardians on their own way, but while Blaze thinks its a burden Sonic Thinks its a blessing. The parallels are just YUMMY. And also Blaze deserves a golden retriever bf.

They were canon, okay? When i was little i remember loving them together while reading the archie comics. They were so sappy and Sonic was OOC but like, they made me happy. And that hasn't faded yet.

Do I watched this YouTuber Lythero play Sonic 06, and I never realized how actually scuffed this game is, to the point it feels like it’s kept together by duct tape. Everything about it is so off. Even issues I never realized, like how OOC it is for shadow to be a gun agent. While 06 has some merit, I can finally understand why 06 has tarnished this franchises legacy in the eyes of fans and the internet.

Nowadays a 3.5 hour review of something is nothing special, but in 2012, spending so much time picking something apart because a playthrough wouldn't do it "justice" was unheard of. Definitely dated at some point, but it's a great time capsule to understand just how angry the fandom was, and it's not just because of the game being held together by spit and prayers (Clement makes the example of the billiard puzzle in Silver's Dusty Desert to prove that the issues go beyond the stability of the game).

I still struggle to believe '06 is going through the "but it wasn't so bad" process. Did people beat the dead horse into a paste? Absolutely. Are we now used to even less stable games so '06 hardly looks like the worst game of all time? Without doubt. IT'S SOOOO UNBELIEVABLY GOOD LIKE HOLY HECK?!

Where do I start? Okay, history-ish lesson time.

This is not the first time that Sonic's PR team make a game specifically for an april fool's joke. During Aaron's era, there was an infamous website game titled 'Big's Big Adventure 3'. And as the name suggests, it tells a story of how Big showed up in random places like you might/might not see him as a cameo during the SA2 event.

Same format as TMoSTH, a visual novel style game with uh....flappy bird-inspired game, and of course the fishing segment as sub content.

And that's it. I like the story not gonna lie. I enjoy playing it. Full of meme content. But the existence of the game itself was huge in 2016. It may not be the best thing to re-live it in this era in my opinion.

I bet the website is down now but you can still watch some playthroughs from youtube though.

And after seven years, the new Sonic PR team create a game for another april fool's joke. But this time....I don't think this is not full of memes to be laughing by the community. It's...unexpectedly something else.

Sure the highlight of the trailer first and foremost: "Sonic is dead" was a real deal. It was all over the internet even though you were not active on sonic at that time.

I personally didn't watch the trailer yet I knew that highlight. So I play it blindly without any knowledge of what the hell happened before this existed.

But as I open the game, I was shocked. It starts with deep and slow music like typical mystery games you played, great art designs, and a nice choice of colors that encapsulated the title itself. Simple, yet the qualities that represent are almost like it was not made for such a free game, even as a joke for that day.

I have yet to start the game but it left me with such an impression.

I love everything about this game. They nailed every. single. one! Even with each traits that were being misrepresented by fandom, somehow corrected to their very core! What is this? What in the world am living right now??

And this is one of the stories that I want to read in fan fiction. Just a group comes together creating unexpected events or just doing their normal life. Whether Eggman got in the way or not is up to you. It has silly and quirky moments freely.

The jokes landed perfectly without making them OOC. In fact, I got a bunch of new headcanon from that game. It has so many memorable scenes that you might already see most of them on the internet.

For the protagonist, yes I can confidently say I related to Barry that much. Even at some point, I felt I was inside the train surrounded by these extravagant abnormal people. I truly thought every response that Barry had was exactly like mine if I was in that scenario. (looking at you Tails)

For a mystery game, I kinda think how they summarize the whole case cooouuld have been better. The sub-ones did a great job to wrapped up the messes. I don't hate the whole problem tho. I actually adore it. Hmm, I might need to replay it again soon and see if it could change my mind about it.

Mini-games! It might be my personal bias so apologize for my taste. If I want to, they should add an additional setting to adjust Sonic's position. I struggled A LOT during mini-games. God why Tails had to toss every thinking section to me, please stop T_T.

For Music... wow I didn't prepare how well thought out this music has. The ost of this game is uniquely true to its theme and It still stuck in my head for days. The theme song and the interrogation section are my favorites. Some mini-game section is also catchy and upbeat!

Artstyle! Oh I loooove the design throughout the game. Each character got well design clothes that are creative and also stay true to their character with a bonus to the lore of the story! Deegeemin has my list as one of fav sonic artists.

I think he's the last of Class 78...and the last person related to Hope's Peak during the time he entered the school to die, his luck was so potent that it kept him alive til his 150s.

not sure if you didn't get my ask the first time but what about Sonic X , version of Eggman? its Yuji Naka's vision and he isn't that evil as many of the other characters that appear in the series, I would really love to hear what you think about it as an Eggman fan

Oh I did get your ask, I was just trying to think of the best way to word my answer.

X Eggman has a very special place in my heart for being one of my first pieces of Sonic media, aside from Heroes and Shadow 2005. As you may know, that two games didn't have that much Eggman in them and his character was being mistreated with the way he was being sidelined. But something about Eggman was already appealing to me and I wanted to see more of him, so I watched X before getting any other games. It was one of the first bigger looks I got at Eggman as a result.

X really helped me fall in love with Eggman because I got to see much more of him and how charming, funny, and evil he can be. Literally every time he was on screen he made me smile and laugh, I just found him so entertaining. I still do to this day and I rewatch it annually. But it wasn't the idea they tried to push of him being 'not that evil' or capable of doing good that appealed to me about his character from the very beginning. I loved all the evil and assholic things he did throughout the show.

He still had evil, selfish, and rude moments that made him look like a big dick and I loved it. The idea of him suddenly caring for Sonic and friends later on came out of nowhere and I don't like how it was handled, so I like to imagine it was just another one of his acts to get on their good side, so they could all defeat the Metarex. I know that wasn't really the case and I'm not very happy about it. It was random and out of nowhere and it contradicts things that Eggman did in this very show. It downplays his villainy for no good reason.

I think the "when you actually hurt them, that's going too far" line was one of the most ridiculous things to come out of Eggman's mouth of all people. It makes him so hypocritical, even when it comes to his portrayal in the show because he still hurt plenty, attempted to kill Sonic and friends, tried to blow up Station Square, and did countless other terrible destructive things, and there's no way that multiple of his plans didn't result in collateral damage.

Chris wasn't even the exception either because remember when he jumped onto Eggman's Egg Mobile in an attempt to take the emerald, and when he grabbed Eggman's mustache, he shook him off and sent him plummeting to his doom? Where was the good in his heart when he allowed the twelve year old to fall and almost die and only cared about the fact that he'd just accidentally let the emerald fall with him? It doesn't seem very kind and caring to me, but very in character selfish, as he should be. So yeah, he's one to talk in that scene when he's even put Chris in harm's way himself.

In the Japanese version of that line, he said he doesn't hurt hostages. But what I think would've be more in character would be that he just wouldn't care if hostages get hurt, as long as they're still alive to use as the bait. I said in the little rant that I slipped into my Eggman X supercut season 3 video that the only way I could really see the scene working was if Eggman was just pretending to take the moral high ground just to piss off the Metarex or something. Because otherwise it just really doesn't make sense.

I despise the Metarex for being boring villains with generic designs. They really wanted us to think they were amazing, powerful, and scary but they were try hard and had no interesting motive. Eggman made them look stupid by pointing out how their plan doesn't make sense and results in destroying planets so they won't have anything to rule over and prove their power to. They have a boring motive, unlike Eggman who has an egotistical dream that he'll go to great lengths to accomplish, rather than just being "haha I'm so evil I'm going to destroy everything for no reason"

It feels like just another case of Eggman's villainy being downplayed in an attempt to emphasize how much better of a villain and bigger of a threat others are supposed to be, which I'm never a fan of because it's not true. Eggman isn't innocent compared to them, he just has a better plan that doesn't involve just destroying the world. And when you have to either put Eggman down or make him act OOC so he doesn't seem as evil, then they're clearly not good villains that can prove themselves on their own. Other villains shouldn't take away from Eggman, instead we should be told why we should see these villains as a dangerous threat like Eggman.

I can't take away the idea that 'oh Eggman is actually a kind and caring guy compared to the big scary super evil Metarex' away from the scene. He's a terrible person too, the only reason he frowns upon the Metarex's acts isn't because he has a good heart, it's because they're going to destroy everything he wants to conquer. Eggman has always been selfish and only cared about what he wants and he doesn't care who gets hurt as long as he gets it. This even applied to X Eggman himself earlier on in the show.

If he was truly a good guy, why wasn't he holding back and showing care from the start? When people were getting hurt because of his actions and he was intentionally trying to kill others, why were there so many moments of him clearly enjoying it? And if it was supposed to be seen as some type of character development, they didn't do a very good job at showing it because him actually being concerned for others came out of nowhere. And even so, I just don't think it works for Eggman because if there isn't some secret evil and selfish motive behind his actions, it just makes him a big hypocrite.

But besides that bothering me because it's not the kind of development I think Eggman should have, I love X Eggman for many other reasons in a way that I can rewatch the show without it getting to me much. But I still really wish they would've done some things differently because earlier on it seemed like they had the right idea but had to bring that whole twist out of nowhere which I just don't think suits a deeply selfish, narcissistic, dangerous man that lacks empathy. (Because yes, there were even blatant moments in X that showed Eggman's low empathy was still there. That's how he does the things he does without shame.)

And one thing that stops me from being as bitter about it in the end is that, despite who was involved with X in Japan, it's still clearly very separate from the games. Just like how Boom Eggman, who is also portrayed as being a nicer Eggman, is entirely separate. Game universe Eggman has done a lot more evil, selfish, fucked up catastrophic shit than both X and Boom Eggman combined and clearly has no ounce of remorse. That's why I've never been a fan of people attempting to merge the separate universes/canons together when they just don't work.

There's nothing in the games that implies game Eggman has this same mindset and ability to care about anyone other than himself, unlike X or Boom Eggman. And even though X Eggman was the first time I got to see a version of him really in action, it didn't shape my view of him in the games because I could recognize the differences. I'm happy that it didn't affect his game portrayal because I already think those moments in X were OOC enough for X Eggman when they contradict his actions, so it would've made even less sense for him in the game universe.

The concept of him being not such a bad guy doesn't need to be a part of his character to make him charming, lovable and entertaining to me. He's perfect just the way he is as the prideful, selfish, egotistical bastard that I fell in love with. 💜

1.) The entire page is written in Japanese. Can we trust Google's translation? Is there some nuance here which stipulates that Eggman doesn't skin puppies just for the hell of it but that his "means of achieving his goals" are a necessary evil which he doesn't care about committing, and it's being lost in translation? 2.) Creators can be wrong about their own characters. Iizuka wrote ShTH; doesn't make some of Shadow's characterization there not OOC. 3.) Eggman has called his own creations/deeds "evil" in the games before, notably Battle and Shuffle. Metal Sonic LARPing as Eggman in Heroes called his actions "evil" as well, implying that if he were aiming to be IC as Eggman in order to fool Sonic and co., then it stands to reason that Eggman acknowledges, if purely on an intellectual level, that what he is doing is wrong. He simply doesn't care. 4.) This information is outdated. It hasn't been repeated since SA1's manual.

5.) "Eggman cannot distinguish between good and evil." - So... he was able to recognize his grandfather's greatness, but grows up unable to distinguish how his methods differ from Gerald's? How is it he regressed from his childhood ability to discern right from wrong in his adulthood? Humans don't work Like That(tm) 6.) Because the recognition is rooted in Japanese fans I'm confused when I read that Western Eggmen like you are just evil. Eggman was thought to have a character similar to that of a lovable villain, in contrast to the main character Baikinman in Anpanman (a very popular hero in Japan). And the characterization of Eggman in Sonic x may seem like a one-sided characterization of TMS, but that is the character image that Yuji Naka and others thought of the Sonic Team at the time... was done) Also, Naoto Oshima said that Eggman is a mecha fetish that emphasizes functional beauty.

Also, Sonic X is hardly a reputable reference for characterization because a LOT of concepts in Sonic X have been outdated for literal decades now.

If you're comfortable sharing your thoughts on Shadow's current portrayal according to Sega Mandates(tm), I'd be interested to hear it. If I were to try and rationalize it on my own, the best I can come up with is that Shadow's not in a good place right now mentally and is lashing out because of some inner turmoil he's refusing to share.

I... don’t like it. Mostly based on personal preference and nostalgia glasses. I will say I have my own theories about what’s going on with him.

1. He’s going through things, like you said.

I can see where this is coming from and from a retelling stand point- I think we all know about Shadow’s past. We all know what he’s done. But we don’t know what this world’s Shadow has done yet. While Shadow may be unwilling to share, the beauty about a visual medium is that we should be able to see what’s going on despite his wants on the matter. Nothing has been forthcoming thus far, and while I understand this is Sonic’s comic, I think we all wanna know what the heck is going on with Shadow.

2. All rivals must be Vegeta.

Speaks for itself. Vegeta is a great favorite amongst fans (including myself) and went through a HUGE boost in popularity after the events of Dragon Ball Super. My problem with this theory is I feel that Vegeta got more popular... because he was allowed to be softer and got to lose some of his high and mightiness without going full OOC. Shadow hasn’t been allowed ANY of the same freedom, so this is less of a viable theory in my mind. What brings it to mind in the first place is that Knuckles was once Sonic’s rival as well. Now that he’s more his buddy and a signature part of Team Sonic, Sonic needs a more prominent/serious rival. Someone who isn’t going to just join the main gang and always be his own separate thing. Keeping him as a Vegeta type makes it so it’s much more marketable when he does get to team up with the rest of the team.

Which... hasn’t gone well in IDW world considering every time he’s gotten involved he’s just managed to make things a little bit worse.

3. They want to kill off ShadAmy for good.

Or rather less specifically ALL of Shadow’s ships. And everyone else’s. This is less of a theory and more of a whine. We haven’t seen him have ANY positive interactions with ANYONE in this comic series so far. Yes, he gave into Sonic in issue 6 over Mr. Tinker, but I hardly call that positive. He’s seen TRAVELING with Rouge, but again, nothing specifically positive. I get not wanting to encourage romance, I mean, the fandom can be fairly divisive at the best of times, imagine them trying to ship tease. They HAVE to be seeing what’s going on with the Avatar Fandom recently, good GOD.

And being a loner character isn’t so bad, I mean, look at Knuckles! But when you’ve made it so that he doesn’t look particularly happy or fulfilled even when alone? Like, what’s the point? Why have Shadow in the story if all he’s going to do is mess up and be a stick in the mud all the time? Why is he part of the world if he isn’t allowed to interact with any of it?

And my most prominent theory (please, dear god, let this be the reason)

4. They’re getting to it.

They’re rebooting the series again- which means Shadow as we know him is starting over. I’m HOPING that he’s starting here, and that he will eventually be allowed to grow from his failures- like they’re trying to Zuko him (or maybe more appropriately “Sokka” him. Sokka was really hard to love in the first few episodes). Right now Shadow’s just a REALLY uninteresting, charmless version of early “planet destroying” Vegeta. He’s just rude and selfish without thought. Like, there’s glimmers of him thinking about other people and the greater good of the world. But it honestly feels like it’s coming from a place of BEING right rather than DOING right. Which- he’s fifteen. People are usually little shits at 15 years old- it’s just a fact of life.

BUT- it’s also been over 30 issues now. We should be seeing SOMETHING new with Shadow. He’s given VERY few concessions to other people and they’ve all been to Sonic. He has zero other connections to people and at this point Sega needs to start coming up with reasons why beyond marketing and “lol edgy”.

He’s a kid, and he’s troubled. I’ll give him that level of understanding. That doesn’t mean I have to like this little shit my baby boy has become. And frankly, until we start getting answers or at least some PROGRESS on his character growth, I will continue to be unhappy about him. I’ll still support IDW as a whole, but I’m gonna be pouty about it.

What did I miss yesterday? Well, let's see we saw Louis try and fail to hide his smirky fond face while saying Harry looked cute, we heard Harry talk about his epiphany during HSLOT, "oh wow, they really want me to be myself and be out and do it," and Niall was quoted saying "there's only so much golf you can play," so all in all: it was a wild fucking day.

You think I didn't post about it but maybe I did and it just got sucked magically straight onto AO3, where it got a single comment reading "cute but maybe you should try to be more realistic, that would never happen, Niall especially is really ooc"....you don't know

Louis promo continues to be great fun, a proud and happy Louis getting to talk about how excited he is to be doing what he really wants to musically ("[KMM is] the pinnacle of where I want to be sonically") and how he worked to arrive at this point and now has, WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE. While pre-recorded interviews aired today Louis headed out to do a more low-key kind of promo, appearing in public with Eleanor (and Oli and the dogs) at a local footie match, and the backseat promo drivers of the fandom got all worked up that it's day three (3) and they have yet to see things done the way they definitely would if they were in charge. Is anyone else reminded of all those dudes saying they could score a point off Serena Williams no problem? Anyway Louis said, "I just gotta make whatever I love and whatever happens off the back of that is amazing." But the times that does happen are excellent and it's the best interview (that we didn't get) in ages in some ways. While I mostly care only what Harry has to say, when Rob said "it turns out the entire fate of rock and roll is in the hands of the former members of One Direction, they’re here to save us," I really felt that. And when we learned that HS2 is done but he wouldn't tell Rob any details about title or release plans I also felt something: alarm! She is lurking, ready to ambush us at any time lads.

Niall says that he just wanted to "make the craziest song we can make and not overthink it," and the result was NTMY, we got a bunch of lyrics from Put A Little Love On Me, including "I want your number tattooed on my arm in ink, I swear, ‘cause when the morning comes I know you won’t be there," and he says no, PALLOM is unlikely to be out by Christmas cause he's hoping NTMY will still be big by then, he was seen out in London with Sam Smith, and the tabloids are full of overwrought pieces about who his heartbreak ballad is about.

Reunion: Part 1

A/N: So this is an idea I came up with where Felix reunites with his old friends, and Tamora feels a little insecure around them, since she’s so different. Then Felix tries to tell her that everyone will love her. But what happens when one of them doesn’t like her at all? Side note: the story will be put on here in parts, so this isn’t the whole story. I like to pace myself by writing mini chapters until I’ve completed the whole fic. Anyways, I hope you guys like it! And sorry if the characters are a bit OOC, I’m still kind of new to writing these guys. :3

Felix and Tamora held each other’s hands, walking through Game Central Station. It was the middle of the night, and they were on they’re normal midnight stroll.

As they passed the crowds of other game characters, Felix noticed one of his oldest friends walking by.

“Sonic!” he shouted, attempting to get the blue hedgehog’s attention.

Sonic looked up, smiling when he spotted Felix. He walked towards the couple, grinning.

“Felix, long time no see.”

He patted Felix on the back and pointed at Calhoun.

“I see you’ve found a lady friend. About time, Goldie.”

Calhoun smirked, lifting an eyebrow. “Goldie?”

Felix chuckled. “It’s an old nickname.”

“Speaking of which,” Sonic interrupted, placing hands on his hips. “I haven’t seen you in ages. How’s it been in Niceland?”

“Oh, just peachy,” Felix beamed, his eyes sparkling. “With all the homeless characters coming to live in our game, I’m almost certain that we won’t have to worry about being unplugged for another few years!”

Sonic smiled. “That’s great news, Felix!”

He glanced at Tamora, then back to the fixer.

“Say, would you two like to come by Mario’s game with me tomorrow evening? He’s hosting a get together for all of us older characters.”

Tamora frowned. “Well, if it’s just for you older guys, then I don’t want to intrude. Why don’t you go, Felix?”

Sonic shook his head. “I’m sure Mario wouldn’t mind if we had you come along. Besides, I want to see his reaction when he sees Felix hooked up with a war sergeant!”

Felix blushed and put his hands together, wanting to change the subject. “So, I guess we’ll see you there tomorrow. We’ll be there at... uh... what time is it again?”

“7 o’clock.”

“Great. See ya there!”

Sonic nodded and zoomed off, rushing through the crowd.

Tamora stood in silence, thinking. What would it be like hanging out with a bunch of older characters? They’d probably be just like Felix, except from different games. Maybe that wouldn’t be so bad.

But what if they didn’t like her?

“You okay, hon?”

Tamora looked down at Felix, coming out of her thoughts. “Yeah, just thinking about the get together.”

“Oh, don’t worry about it, Tammy. I know they’re a lot different than the sort of people you’re used to, but you’ll learn to love them.”

Calhoun smirked. “I’m sure I will.”

She crouched down to his height, pushing his cap over his eyes. “I ended up loving you, after all.”

I made a long list of how similar IDW and NFCV are for me, and in general, I'd say NFCV is IDW but ten times worse - it's just that IDW offends me more personally because Sonic is my franchise.

There are however some things I consider IDW worse for. NFCV has some pretty great fights, for example, the best ones being Trevor vs. Alucard, the gang vs. Dracula, and Trevor vs. Death; I can't think of one fight in IDW that made me go "yoooooooo this is sick <3". But one can say, well it's a different medium, IDW doesn't have animation, it's not fair. True.

I noticed that there is very little discourse on how OOC characters in NFCV are. Mostly it's because NFCV fans rarely are game fans as well lmao, but game fans seem to accept that the characters don't quite have the same personality. It seems to go like this:

yes, this character isn't the same, but it's because the original didn't have much personality in the first place (Trevor: fans really think the dude has zero personality so it doesn't matter if he was written as a stereotypical snarky edgy drunkard. Other examples would be Sypha and Carmilla)

yes, this character isn't the same, and it's a shame because they were cooler in the games (Hector. Yeah, just him. Ironically, as much of a Hector stan I am, I'm also willing to defend his potential in S2 lmao)

yes, this character isn't the same, but good thing because the original sucked (Isaac, which drives me mad because the two Isaacs have nothing in common so why are you even comparing them)

Alucard isn't usually involved in this conversation even though I consider him extremely OOC, but on the other hand, I never see anyone swear that he's IC either. (and no one cares about St. Germain lol)

... and this is the biggest difference with IDW, because fans swear that its Sonic is perfectly in line with his games portrayal. Even though there are game screenshots that directly contradict what he says in the comic. Sonic is a man of few words, IDW Sonic won't shut the fuck up; Sonic's only "principle" is helping people in need but otherwise he does what he wants; IDW Sonic acts as if he's restrained by his own moral code ("I won't sacrifice my principles out of fear"); Sonic won't even consider the idea that Eggman could reform, IDW Sonic believes that brain damage counts as reformation; Sonic lifts Shadow up and reminds him that he saved the world; IDW Sonic taunts Shadow over trying to blow up the planet; Sonic listens to Tails' advice and apologizes when he doesn't, IDW Sonic brushes him off constantly; Sonic doesn't like being called honorifics like Mr. Sonic, IDW Sonic sees nothing wrong with being called "sir" by an obviously traumatized kid... you get the idea.

He's not the only OOC character, of course, because we also have a profoundly stupid Eggman and a rude Shadow and an Amy that flipflops between being a competent leader and a scaredy cat who reliquishes her authority to Jewel, among others.

But, with the sole exception of Shadow whose lousy portrayal is blamed on Mandates, fans seem to really believe there is nothing wrong with anything. Sonic really is a merciful guy who would beg Eggman to come around! He so would stand on a rock spouting his whole life philosophy! Eggman really never has a solid plan! Amy really is that badass (well, yes, she is, but not like that lol)!

So this is what's infuriating. It's not only watching characters you love being bastardized or treated without respect; it's the total dissonance between what you see and what the majority sees, and knowing that this is legitimately influencing fanon's perception of said characters.
