(( plotted au thread with @dreadwxlf. featuring: ellana replacing rook, and solas trapped in the lighthouse instead of the regret prison. bwhahah i cant wait to torture these two with angst))

Things started off, as they always did, promising - the vow made between friends that they would have Fen'harel see sense, that they would find him and recruit people he didn't know in order to subvert any plans he might make. Varric had attempted to lead the charge by himself, in order to spare Ellana's feelings on the matter, but ultimately she had been too selfish to let go (to have someone else face Solas in her place was unbearable). ...and hadn't that always been her problem? She had never been able let him go. (yet it was so easy for him) And so she joined her friend, leaving those she trusted to handle things in the south, while her and Varric chased various leads all over the north. Eventually they ended up in Minrathous (and reuniting with Dorian had been the highlight of a very stressful couple of months of deadends), and tangled up in the Shadow Dragons. Faced with the prospect of actually being needed, and the fact they had literally exhausted every possible avenue, Ellana helped the organization and freed the slaves she could while she agonized over Fen'harel eluding her once more. The more time elapsed, the more she despaired, and unfortunately the more her influence grew, for hardly anyone in the north knew exactly what the Inquisitor looked like - and with her obsidian prosthetic, she tended to blend in more than not (they called her Lady now, which was bemusing). Solas still visited her dreams, of course, but after years of silence on his end, she had finally stopped yelling at him (and in her weaker times, pleading with him to stop). She had finally stopped saying anything at all, really, choosing instead to watch him across the vast distance. She wondered if he still felt the same - if he had ever really felt the same... It was something she would keep wondering in the depths of her mind, as things finally came to head - all stemming from a lead in the form of Neve Gallus. - She remembers trying to talk him down, pleading like she hadn't in years: "You can't want this, not like this, vhenan!" A statue pushed (stupid, blessed Varric), a desparate fumble for a glowing dagger - the crunch of her nose breaking (his sad, sad violet eyes) - and she's falling down, bleeding on bright blue - she hits her head on some rock - then ...

black. - Ellana wakes with a start, groaning, as she blinks to take in her surroundings (she's in some kind of infirmary, on a cot). Her heart is pounding wildly though, and she's unsure of why until her ice blue eyes meet violet once more. Everything stops. Her ears ring. But dread is stronger and it curls in her stomach, "... what happened?" her voice is ragged, and she winces despite herself as she rubs her throat. "why are you here?" Her eyes narrow, "and where exactly are we?" Did his ritual work? it's enough for her fists to clench.

Sorry Boys has the perfect setup for becoming an actual like. ARG or horror web series and I genuinely think its really funny that it's like. not. they have a website where if you input a code you get an ominous audio snippet in the zombie apocalypse videos they reference several other sorry boys videos implying that they're all somehow taking place in the same universe, weird cryptic things happening in some of the videos that just. never get explained. and they've all got experience with acting and horror (ranboo from genloss and the enderwalk arg, wilbur from his arg, charlie from genloss and jrwi, and all five of them have been on roleplay servers) and they've committed to being a fucking insane vlog channel. perfect keep up the good work guys

Okay so good news and bad news about the bitty I keep seeing at work,

The good news is I saw the little guy again when I was putting food down and I got very close this time!

He still looked kinda wary but he didn't run or anything so I thought maybe he was coming around to me. I also was putting down the food anyway so I figured I'd offer him some directly.

The bad news is I guess that wasn't the right idea...

I don't know if this was because he's not friendly or maybe he just got scared or something, but he took the food and bolted after he bit me. I hope I didn't scare him off trying that, I'll let you guys know if I see him again (and if I turn into a were-bitty lol)

Regulus grabs the sides of James's face, smiling just a little. "Shut the fuck up."

James grins, thinking he might know where this is going. Or he could get hexed.

Regulus surges up and kisses him. James doesn't really get a choice what his hands do; he kisses Regulus back as his hands wins up in the other boy's hair.

They break briefly, both smiling as they pull each other back in.

They're running now and it can't be earlier than midnight. It turns out that Regulus told Remus, so he's covering for them as they sprint hand in hand to the forest.

"Why are we like this?" Reg asks, his smile transforming his features and sweet Merlin, James really, really, likes him.

"We just are," James responds, and Regulus laughs and pulls him close.

"-Ooh, and I'm so pissed at Slughorn, Salazar he has one job and he can't even do it right!"

James laughs, running his fingers through Reg's hair. "Yeah?'

"'Can't put you in a fifth-year class, sorry boyo!' Ok, dick, just admit you hate me."

"If he hates you, I'll light the Potions storeroom on fire," James says, completely genuine. He'd do it.

"Thanks," Regulus says, and he looks up at James with his eyes soft and smiling, and James is so happy he could- he doesn't even know what.

Reg found the Room of Requirement.

"Oh, sweet Godric, Reg, we've been looking for this for years! You're just better than us," James says, looking around at the room.

"We already knew that, though," Regulus says, laughing when James nudges him playfully.

"You're my favorite," James says, pulling the other boy close.

"I know," Reg replies, turning a smug smile up to his boyfriend.

"Ooh, for the first time in my life I'm thankful I wan't born a boy," Reg says, bouncing into the Room. "Mother told me over the break that if I was a proper boy I'd have married Narcissa! It's bullshit, she and I are practically identical."

James isn't quite processing. He'll never get used to his boyfriend's - boyfriend boyfriend boyfriend James is going to do a flip - morning happiness. "Narcissa, like your cousin?"

"Yup," Reg answers, curling up into James's side. "It's the Black's longstanding tradition of marrying their cousins."

"That's not- whatever. And you are a proper boy, you know that, right?"

Regulus looks down, hiding his face.

"Reg, look at me," James says. He waits until his boyfriend - James is never, ever going to get over this fact - looks at him to continue. "You're just as much of a boy as I am. Probably more."

Regulus smiles, and James will always love it when that's directed at him. "Yeah."

Why can't he ever protect anyone?

Why are his final thoughts so sad?
